The Tranquil Place is indeed a wonderful location for tranquility and reflection. Nestled in the Andean highlands near the town of Cotacachi (great for all manner of leather goods at very reasonable prices), it’s a convenient 75-minute ride northwest from Ecuadors’s new international airport.
We have three bedrooms, a spacious dining area and kitchen, fireplaces, large tiled floors that evoke a gracious hacienda feeling, two showers, and an absolutely killer view from the front porch that looks out on mountain terrain and farm land. On clear days, you can see the Cayambe Volcano. On cloudy days, put on a jacket (it rarely gets colder than 55F/12C in the mornings and evenings), sip a beverage, and marvel at the clouds that play among the Andean peaks. Shopping is nearby in Cotacachi, so you can cook up a storm if you choose to eat in. And do not miss out on the famous open-air market in Otavalo, a 15-minute car drive from the Tranquil Place. In addition to superb fruits and veggies, the market’s sweaters, jackets and scarfs made from alpaca by local artisans, make very cool gifts.
Our little piece of heaven is within easy walking distance to Laguna Cuicocha in the Andean highlands of Ecuador. You will find our home and the surrounding 33 acres of property to be a tranquil, secluded location, ideal for use as a home-base while discovering the Northern Andes.
If you're looking for a convenient and restful place that can serve as a springboard for venturing out into northern Ecuador, The Tranquil Place is a great choice.
A cozy new breakfast bistro area with a comforting fireplace and a fully equipped facility to enjoy a good meal while enjoying an amazing view of the surrounding beauty. As well a play area and our closeness to Lake Cuicocha hiking trail.

Other things to note
The Tranquil Place (TTP) in Ugshapungo, Ecuador is situated on 33 acres of prime volcanic farm land at 3240 meters (10,500 feet) elevation in the Ecuadoran Andes. We grow our crops using organic farming methods and principles of permaculture as practiced by Australians Sepp Holzer, David Holmgren and Bill Mollison. TTP's philosophy is aligned with the three basic ethics of permaculture: care for the earth, care for people, and fair share. The founders are incorporating the twelve principles of permaculture developed by David Holmgren as they design the fields, orchards, gardens and buildings. Indigenous Ecuadorians have much to teach us about sustainability with their knowledge of local fauna and non-consumptive ways of living.
Smoking: We require all of our buildings at The Tranquil place to be completely smoke free. If you smoke, we ask you to avoid smoking in the vicinity of our buildings, and to properly dispose of all tobacco in trash receptacles.
