Our home is cozy, full of warmth and elements of earth. A carpenter by trade, I have spent the last few years creating a home for my young daughter and I which is playful yet peaceful.

The space

Our home is adorned with color and elements of nature such as stone walls and shelves as well as a tree post and branch railings. A large deck allows for outdoor eating in the summer and a small fire pit on the grounds for roasting marshmallows (or chestnuts!) to create the feel of winter camping.

Guest access

The main floor of the house has one bedroom, kitchen, bathroom, living and dining room and the upstairs has two bedrooms. There is a basement which has a private and self contained suite.

Interaction with guests

Depending on the time of visit I would be happy to assist guests.

Other things to note

The space between the main floor and the basement suite is well sound proofed but I do ask that guests be aware and considerate of my tenants below.

My husband and I, as well as our three year old daughter really enjoyed our stay in Nelson. The suite was exactly as described and had more than enough space to accommodate us and our dog too. We would highly recommend anyone with children stay here - Denie had so many wonderful toys, the house is within walking distance of a playground/spray park and the deck space was great to sit out on and enjoy the sunshine and mountain views.

Denie's place was simply lovely: located high on the mountain (a truly gobsmacking bike ride down (and up ;-) ), the view from Denie's beautiful wood deck is amazing. And the star-gazing was incredible. Inside, the beds were super comfy, the kitchen well-appointed, the bath and shower lovely. Overall, the house is very much as depicted in the photos, showcasing Denie's talents as a carpenter and designer very much in love with colour and and natural world. A very restful place to be. But also excellent for kids! My daughter spent hours and hours on the trampoline. :-) Could not recommend Denie's place, nor Denie, more highly. We will definitely return.

We had a great stay at Denie's house in Nelson. We were there with my parents and two young children and the main floor bedroom and bathroom were great for my father, who has mobility issues. The other two bedrooms upstairs were well set up for the rest of us. We did find the stairs to the second storey a bit steep and narrow so secured the kids door at night to make sure they didn't fall down while half asleep. There are sufficient railings for the kids (ours are 2 and 4) to get up and down without concern, which they did numerous times throughout the day to access the great selection of toys in the kids room. The house is well stocked with spices and condiments as well as toys and movies and there were always a few shelves cleared for our own food as well as in the bathroom. Because the house is occupied by the owner for parts of the year there were quite a few nick nacks and such, which gives the house a more homey feel but I made sure to keep our own stuff in one section of the main floor to help on the packing side as I find it more difficult to pack when it's not just our stuff. As far as location we drove pretty well every time we went out for groceries, to the beach or to mountain bike, as Nelson is quite hilly so we were glad to have a vehicle. The house does have a great side yard as well as a trampoline for the kids and there is a large playground at the school a couple blocks down. Overall our stay was quite pleasant and Denie offered some great tips on places to go while we were there, our favourites being the Kootney ferry, Kootney Coop, Lake Side Park and Cottonwood Market.

We stayed for a week with our two young daughters and my mother. The house was fantastic and the location is great. Our girls loved the toys Denie left for them to play with and the trampoline! We felt at home the whole time and very comfortable. Would highly recommend and would definetly stay again!

Denie's place was a clean, quiet place to stay for our trip to Nelson. It had a great view and was a short drive to all the shops and restaurants! Denie was a very helpful and organized host. I would recommend this place for anyone visiting the Kootenay area!

This is a lovely home and great for young families (toys, trampoline and kiddie pool were all provided). Gorgeous mountain view and lovely big deck. Denie was very accommodating and we even ended up extending our stay because we were having such a good time! Would definitely stay here again. Only two (small) suggestions...a small BBQ would have been great (summer nights were pretty warm for cooking indoors) and a couple more basics like oil and pepper for guest use would have been helpful (but these are just minor!)

As I said in the star ratings, the house is fantastic! There are toys available for toddlers that kept our son entertained. My only wish is that our host remove any delicate or sentimental trinkets from toddler reach, ie the floor, window cell, and lower bookcase. We recommend this place and would like to come back.
