Right outside the town of Hvolsvöllur, Gardsauki guesthouse offers this simple triple room with shared bathrooms and kitchen. Wi-Fi is free. A central starting point for visiting many sites of interest in Southern Iceland - best to stay several days.

The space

Gardsauki guesthouse is a private run guesthouse with a total of four rooms. The triple room is rather small but cosy, furnished with one bunk bed and one single bed, a small desk, two chairs, a bedside table and a closet. Wi-Fi is free, but seems to be not working on all devices.
Gardsauki is situated on flat land with a wonderful view to the mountains, it's very easy to reach and gives you endless opportunities for exploring Southern Iceland!

Guest access

Besides their own room, my guests have access to shared bathrooms and a fully equipped kitchen. The outdoor clothes should be kept in the entrance area.

Interaction with guests

I live in the upper floor or the building with my four children, while the guesthouse is situated in the basement. I'm usually at home in the evening, night and morning - so guests can contact me easily!

Christiane was very friendly and helpful. She gave us great travel tips. Our room for three was in a good size for backpack travelers and was clean. Kitchen has everything what's needed for easy meals and was clean and we'll organized. Christiane's place was easy to find and check-in and out was very easy.

If you are doing a roadtrip and am undecided on where you should stay as a pit stop before venturing southern Iceland, then you should choose this place to stay. Christiane's place is literally 1 minute away from the petrol station and supermarket. There's also a store for all your alcoholic needs beside the petrol station too. it was complete! If you are too tired to cook, there's food places nearby too.The rooms were big enough for me and my friends. I love the toilets though, it was just super spacious and equipped with heaters too. Kitchen was big enough to accommodate a couple of people to cook at one time. There's wifi in the house which is fast enough for me. I strongly recommend anyone to stay here as besides the great amenities, Christiane has been such an awesome host. She was there whenever me and my friends needed help. Truly grateful.

Christiane is a wonderful host and made sure our 2 nights at her place went smoothly. She went above and beyond in helping us with whatever requests we had and was always available to answer any questions we had. Her place is very clean, quiet and well-kept and is located in a great central location for exploring the southern coast all the way up to Vik and Jokulsarlon. Highly recommend staying at her place!

Great place for budget travelers. Christiane is a great host - quick to respond to questions ahead of time, knowledgeable about the area, and nice to chat with. There is a separate downstairs area for the guests. The bedrooms are moderately spacious, and the beds are comfortable. Both of the full bathrooms are huge & have all the necessities. Having two kitchens is really handy when multiple groups want to cook. Sound can carry a bit (as in most houses), but it's fine if the other people staying are reasonably quiet when others are asleep, and the door to one of the kitchens can be closed.

A good address to stay, particularly if you are travelling in the South East. Very good for visiting the Golden Circle

Christiane was very kind and considerate to us during our stay. Would definitely recommend the guesthouse. Rooms were clean and there was enough space (two kitchens and two bathrooms) to share with other guests. Only an hour drive from Vik as well.

I am an immigrant to Iceland, having moved here from Germany early 1999. I love the outdoors and am a great fan of Icelandic nature, culture, food and much more. I do run my own little law firm in the village. In my free time, I like to go hiking and horse back riding.
