This cozy, bright and sunny 2-bdrm apartment is located in a century-home. Located in historic part of Hamilton, a quiet street and yet close to all the conveniences.

The space

A two-storey upper floor apartment, consisting of a full kitchen, two bedrooms and a living/dining room. Exposed brick adds to the old charm. One bedroom has a queen bed, the other a twin bed. Continuous improvements to make your stay even more enjoyable - this year newly added skylight - enjoy the view of the roofs of Hamilton and the escarpment!
Appliances included are fridge (full size), stove (European size), microwave, toaster, coffeemaker, tea kettle (electric) as is a washer/dryer. Also includes an ironing board and an iron. Suitable for up to two adults plus a child or a couple and a third adult. A fourth person (child only) is also subject to additional fee.
Street parking is free at all times. Please do not use the parking pad in front of the main-floor apartment. It is designated for those guests on the main floor.

Quiet street in Hamilton, yet close to Centre Mall, where you can find banks, restaurants, Wal-Mart, Canadian Tire, Marshalls, Metro supermarket and more.
Short walk (2 min) to a bus line for convenient access to downtown.

Enjoy the cozy atmosphere of this apartment or explore Hamilton and Niagara region - whether you choose Niagara Falls or Websters Falls, or there is a lot to see in wine country. Some of the unique places - Memorial of the War of 1812, Gage Park, the Museum of Steam and Technology, Royal Botanical Gardens, Opera Hamilton...

Guest access

My guests have a complete apartment at their disposal and within the apartment nothing is off limits. Weather permitting, there is also a backyard available for children to play or simply to relax with a cup of coffee.

Interaction with guests

While I am always interested in finding about my guests' background and their interests in Hamilton, I respect their privacy and try to be as helpful as possible without intruding into their busy days. On most days, I am away from the location.

Other things to note

I have been blessed with really interesting guests. Most of my guests are medical students and doctors coming to Hamilton's famous hospitals. I have also enjoyed hosting visitors to Opera Hamilton, both singers and administrative and technical staff. Also family members visiting relatives in Hamilton and area.
The apartment is continuously undergoing upgrades. The latests one is the addition of skylight. New tiles in the front hall were installed just last year. Enjoy! You can never have such homey feel in a hotel.

Friends, I am offering a self-catered apartment. If you'd rather avoid the necessity of cleaning up after yourselves, you may consider alternate accomodation. It is not a hotel and as such no kind of room service is offered. HOWEVER, SHOULD YOU FIND SOME DEFFICIENCIES in cleanliness or otherwise upon your check in, I politely ask you to report them to me immediately. I will do my best to make your stay a pleasant one. I require my guests to keep the premises and to leave the premises in the same condition, in which they first found them.
I welcome quiet guests who do not like to be bothered by noise and themselves will not behave in a loud and noisy fashion. Utmost respect by the guests for the property entrusted to them is a given.

***DEPARTURE INSTRUCTIONS: the premises are to be cleaned up to original condition and returned in the same sparkling condition, in which they were first found. Cleaning supplies are in the cupboard under the stairs.
Otherwise, a cleaning fee will be applied based on the amount of cleaning and time required. Any waste or recycling materials are to be disposed of in the containers outside of the house before checking out.

***Bed sheets, duvet covers, pillow cases are to be removed from the bed and along with towels etc. are to be placed in the hamper.

***Keys left on the coat hook, apartment locked by turning the knob on the door lever and the house downstairs locked by pressing LOCK on the keypad.

***ENVIRONMENT: SAVE the environment when using water, heat or electricity - make sure appliances are turned off, when you leave the apartment for the day.

***WASTE: garbage collection day is Wednesday morning, so it is important to have the waste put out at curb Tuesday night. Please follow sorting requirements of the City:
one blue box for plastics,
another for cartons and paper,
green bin for organics (NOT in plastic bags!) and
grey container for unsorted general waste.
As garbage pick-up dates usually do not coincide with your arrival or departure dates, please make sure to have the containers ready on the appropriate day nevertheless, somebody else will take of your garbage after you have left.

***INTERNET: is provided free of charge, however only for essentials, such as e-mails or exploring the area - maps, points of interest etc. Streaming video, movies or similar high-demand applications are not permitted.

***NUMBER OF GUESTS: Max number of guests is 3. However, a fourth person can book, if it is a child under 10, using an inflatable (provided). A charge applies.

***Lost or misplaced keys will be charged extra, based on required travel time to the location and any costs associated with having to replace the keys and/or the locks. The basic charge is CAD 60.00 - if the keys have been locked inside the apartment.

You must also acknowledge
Must climb stairs - Up to two flights of stairs.
No parking on property - Street parking is free at all times. Please watch for alternating sides of the street.
Amenity limitations - Attic portion of the apartment may experience fluctuation of temperatures due to extreme outside temperatures. Every effort is made to minimise these.

The house was conveniently situated, being about an hours drive to Toronto and around an hours drive in the opposite direction to Niagara Falls (depending on the volume of traffic). It is situated in a quiet, slightly run down residential area in midtown Hamilton (close to industrial steel works). The property was quite spacious and had the advantage of a loft bedroom with sitting room attached. The place had a small kitchen which was sufficient for our needs. The property whilst spacious is looking a little tired, however was still sufficient for all we required All the crockery and cutlery was clean but the cupboards and fridge needed a good clean. The outside bins were disgusting. We initially had a problem in gaining access as the code we were given didn't work, then one of the buttons to the key lock was loose and fell off. It was quite a challenge for us to gain access and this is something that needs to be addressed. Bohdan didn't answer the phone at the time, but later replied to our telephone message we left about gaining access, however the problem will need fixing for future guests. The bedroom windows in the loft don't have any curtains on them. This is a problem as the room faces east and gets very light early in the morning (as well as privacy issues as the bedroom faces houses on the opposite side of the road). Also one of the panes of glass in the double glazed units in the second bedroom was broken and there was no fly screens on many of the windows. The toilet flush didn't work properly. Some condiments were left for us, as was cleaning supplies & bathroom stuff.

Response from Bohdan:
I regret your troubles with the code - however, the CODE IS DISPLAYED in the apartment listing and visible to you upon the confirmation of the booking. I checked the function today and while one button cover is missing, this does not affect the proper functioning of the lock. Apart for not having the code with you, I really do not understand, what the problem was supposed to be. As for the curtains for the bedroom - they are being made as we speak (have been delayed). Screens have been removed from windows to facilitate better ventilation of the apartment. All it requires is making sure windows are closed while lights are on - once the lights are turned off, it is perfectly OK to open the windows again. Maybe I should have mentioned this in the House Manual. As for the Wifi code - once again, it is LISTED in the HOUSE MANUAL and upon confirmation of the booking visible to you. May I also point out that I had sent an e-mail with all of the important reminders (door code, wifi) to you prior to your arrival. Broken window pane is temporarily taped, while the complete window replacement is being planned. However, only the inside pane is affected and currently is nothing more than an eyesore. When it comes to cleanliness, here I simply have to disagree - it just so happened that my girlfriend was in charge of the cleaning before your arrival. And believe me, she does not let anything go by her. Does German cleanliness mean anything to you? So here I just throw up my hands in disbelieve. If the property seemed a "little bit tired" to you, it was fully renovated a few years ago and continuously undergoes more improvements - most recently (this year) the skylight and a new railing to the attic. It simply seems to me that after the fiasco with the door code you could not find anything good about the apartment at all. Maybe read some of the other reviews.

It was a beautiful place a little small but perfect for two people! Communication was good and very easy to get around without a car through the Go Bus station in Hamilton!

Overall a good experience. The neighborhood is very quiet and any necessary needs can be accommodated at a shopping center nearby. On street parking was easily accessible and free. The bed was comfortable and there is a bassinet if you need one. Also child gates are proved as the apartment has 2 sets of stairs. A nice touch for those with little ones. The house is not far from the harbor front with a great walking area and nice coffee shop. The only downside was the cleanliness of the interior of the microwave, refrigerator, and cabinets. It appeared they had not been cleaned from the previous guests. However, after a little Chlorox wipes action, it was good to go!

Response from Bohdan:
Thank you, Amy, for your insights. The point of cleanliness is well taken - but as you will recall, we had a tight change-over schedule and time was limited to get the apartment ready. You see what happens, when guests do not follow the house rules and do not clean up after themselves, as they were supposed to. I apologise.

By profession a college professor, in my spare time a devout home renovator. In Hamilton, on of the places to visit are the Royal Botanical Gardens, just a short drive from the apartment.
