A boutique alpaca stud surrounded by bush and breath-taking sea views. Sleep in your own wing with king-size bed, fridge, kettle and toaster plus 55" TV and Wi-Fi. Then head off on a bush walk, explore the local attractions and beaches or get up close to our friendly alpacas. Enjoy rural NZ.
We are located on the edge of the Kaimai-Mamaku Forest Park, surrounded by an abundance of NZ fauna and flora with views of the Pacific and the stunning Mauao (Mount Maunganui).
Omokoroa Beach, a quiet resort is a 15 minute drive and has cafes and a supermarket, hot pools and a golf course. It is 25 minutes into Tauranga and 30 minutes to Mount Maunganui where you can walk up the Mount, enjoy an iconic beach, shops, bars and dining. We are 45 minutes from Waihi Beach, 1hr from Karangahake Gorge and the Hauraki Rail Trail cycle way, 1hr from Hobbiton, 1.15hr from Rotorua and 1.30hr from Whakatane and White Island so we are a very central base from which to explore the whole Bay of Plenty.
We are a working alpaca farm breeding "suri" alpacas, a beautiful and rare breed of alpaca. Simply search online for "Hacienda Suri Alpaca Stud" to learn more about our farm and read our blog.
The guest room is located in its own wing, separated from the rest of the house by a partition door. The wing includes your own large private bathroom with toilet, shower and utility room. There are tea/coffee-making facilities plus a toaster and fridge in the room.
You can close the connecting door and have complete privacy or join in the general hub-hub of rural family life! The choice is yours :)
You will have access to the kitchen and living areas, large covered and open decks, garden and 5 acres of paddock.
You can enjoy free guest wi-fi too.
Interaction with guests
We always look forward to meeting and greeting our guests and are happy to provide information about our region. However, we will also endeavour to respect your privacy and leave you in peace as required. I use the word "endeavour" as we do have two chatty little girls, three friendly dogs and three cats. Luckily your wing is separate from the rest of the house so you can retreat completely...
You are also very welcome to interact with the alpacas. They will eat out of your hand, happily pose for photos and if any farm chores are underway you are most welcome to observe, or even get hands on.
Other things to note
Our farm is a short walk from the many tracks that criss-cross the Kaimai-Mamaku Forest Park. Consult the DOC brochure, "Kaimai to Coast: Walks and Tramps." We have detailed maps of the area available for loan too. We are located 1.5km from the Car Park at the top of Whakamarama Road.
As a rural property, the driveway is quite dark when arriving at night. Please feel free to open the gate (remembering to close it!) and drive down to park next to the house. If the weather is bad we often leave the carport empty for guests so don't worry about parking in there :)
Our dogs and cats do come in the house, although not in your space. However we strongly advise people who do not like dogs and cats to choose somewhere else :)
Moved from the UK to NZ in 2003 and never looked back. We live in paradise with our two children, three dogs, ever changing number of cats and herd of alpacas. We love spending time with friends, family, being outdoors, travelling, enjoying great food and wine and meeting new people and hearing their impressions of our adopted homeland.
