First, I want to give credit to Airbnb with special thanks to Justin (from Airbnb) as they have been great and super professional in handling this unpleasant experience and sorting out everything for us. What happened? As I had informed the host “Marisa” beforehand, I booked the apartment for my son and four of his friends who are 17 to 18 years old. We are French/Belgium/Spanish and we all live in Singapore. 1/ Our children were supposed to check in on Sunday 16 July. They waited the entire afternoon in front of the apartment and could not reach “Marisa” by phone because her “official number” (shown on Airbnb) was not valid. At about 8-9 pm, we (as parents) advised them to find a hotel for the night and to inform Airbnb; 2/ They eventually managed to check-in at “Marisa’s” at about 11 pm but they had already paid for their hotel. They got the keys from “a man” (aka Marisa) who requested them to pay 50 Euros extra for “late check in”: “no 50 Euros, no apartment, no holiday in Barcelona”. They paid the 50 Euros; 3/ At the end of their stay, “the man” told them to leave the keys in the apartment. They informed him that they lost one set (ie 2 keys). They left the other set in the apartment. The man was not present when they checked out; 4/ “The man” then wrote to me claiming that they didn’t leave any keys in the apartment and that he would charge us 100 Euros for duplicating the keys (which by the way, were basic/simple keys); 5/ I rectified the facts and told him that only one set of keys was lost; 6/ He came back with a new story, saying that we had to pay 100 Euros because the apartment was smelly. To summarize, if you are looking for a “hassle free” and “meet your host” kind of experience, DON’T CHOOSE “Marisa’s apartments”. As other guests already reported it, there is no Marisa. And although I didn’t personally meet him, the managing agent/”the man” (aka Marisa) is someone you would probably not enjoy dealing with. Apart from that (and according to our children), the apartment was okay. The location was average (3 to 6 metro stops from the “City life”).

Response from Marisa:
Nathalie, Next time inform you before booked. Airbnb not allow book for another person... 1- Your childrens check in on Sunday, you contact to the wrong number... 2- they paid for a hotel because they made everything bad....contact to the wrong number, didn't call airbnb, etc etc, They could enter to the apartment on the same day they had the check in. If they paid this extra money was because someone needs to open them at 23h00 , our check in time is between 14h00-20h00. 3- your childrens lost a set of keys .....the man never is present on the check out, we went a little bit later and we found the apartment in the worst conditions. 4- your childrens told you they made parties, they smoke in the apartment and is not allow, they vomit...etc... I don't think so. I don't recommend ¨your childrens¨, tech them to behave well.

Nice appartment, cosy and useful. Located in Central Barcelona, you'll get anywhere pretty fast. The terrace is really pleasant.

It's a good place to stay in Barcelona. Location is really amazing. you'd only need to take the bus/subway to go to outreaches of the city (Güell or Art Museum). Cleaned before check-in, had enough beds for 6 adults (excluding the sofa), though may not be roomy enough for everyone. check-ins are dealt with by professionals but unfortunately you cannot check in earlier than 2PM (even if it was to leave your bags) or cannot leave your bags for a couple of hours after you check out (understandable but I hadn't thought it before). In fairness, I can say it's a Money well spent. ps. currently (May of 2017) there is restoration work being done on the side of the building. Please consider this as well.

The apartment is very clean, re-modeled and spacious. The location is great. Even though it is on a busy road, the apartment faces onto a side road that isn't as busy. We were very comfortable in the apartment and loved having it as a home base. The only downside for our family was that the WiFi service is under-powered and not usable from anywhere in the apartment.
