Try 21st century camping in a comfy camping pod, which is ideal for 2 adults and 3 children (no more than 2 adults per pod). They have a heater, lights & electric, but no beds. Just bring everything you would camping - apart from the tent! We hire out single airbeds for £3.

The space

Located on a 6 acre, holiday location in the northernmost of the Yorkshire Dales, Teesdale. Surrounded by farmland, it offers peace, tranquillity and beautiful views of Teesdale – yet is only 10mins from the A66. It is ideal for walkers, cyclists and dog owners (we have a dog walking field onsite) and is close to Richmond, Barnard Castle, High Force Waterfall, Raby Castle and a host of other Dales attractions.

We have 10 timber Camping Pods for hire on a nightly basis.. Camping Pods are insulated timber huts. They have good headroom, a carpeted interior floor area with lights, heater and an electric socket for mobile phones, laptops and travel devices. There is timber decking providing somewhere to sun-bathe, prepare food or hang your wet gear. The window and lockable French doors are double glazed and the Cumbrian sheep's wool insulation and fitted heater means that the Pod really is a year-round option.

There is a cycle storage area on site and we also hire out camping stoves and mattresses if you require, and breakfast packs can be provided with advance notice You will have full use of our centrally heated amenity block with free showers, loos and hairdryer.

There is also a small indoor campers' kitchen, with fridge (with freezer section for your ice blocks), kettle, toaster, microwave and basic hob.

Wi-Fi is also available on site, for a small charge.
There are picnic tables/benches provided for each pod as well as hardstanding for barbeques.

If you don't want to cook outside for yourself, there is a good pub a mile and a half up the road in Caldwell (the Brownlow Arms) which serves food in the evenings. But if you fancy a good walking destination, you can wander down to Winston Gate (15mins walk away) and take the Teesdale Way along the river Tees.

All in all, the Pod really is 21st Century Camping. So why not revisit those fun childhood holidays, but this time with grown-up comforts.

Guest access

Guests have access to our centrally heated amenity building with free showers, loos, coin operated laundry and our campers' kitchen, as well as our 3 acre field - ideal for exercising both children and dogs! We also have a small shop onsite selling the basics, in case you've forgotten anything.

Our first pod experience and we absolutely loved it. Stayed in a family pod for the weekend with 2 children aged 13 and 9. Fab location, spotless facilities and excellent hosts.

We absolutely loved our 3 night stay in our camping pod! Our 3 boys had an amazing experience in their first camping holiday and we did too. It had everything we needed and was a peaceful, beautiful site. We would definitely love to return in the future

This is a lovely place and would recommend to anyone. My husband and I stayed in the family camping pod with our 2 dogs. The dogs made full use of the field and had a great time. The site facilities were great, and were very clean and well maintained. The kitchenette had all the bits and pieces that you might have forgotten. I was even talking to a woman who was getting all her washing done before she went home! The pod itself; was exactly as it was described, a wooden pod with a carpet, a heater and a light. There was a picnic bench come seat outside and blocks to use a camping stove on. The site has a little shop stocking essentials. There is also Dottie, a little caravan cafe, which unfortunately wasn't open during our stay. The owner Ed gave us invaluable information of where the local pub was, and some great walks in the area. They have a whole host of information leaflets etc so there's no chance of missing out on an adventure. This was our very first camping experience and now can't wait for the next one! I would recommend this site to anyone!

Kate was a fantastic host whom we're very thankful of for our 4 day stay. We wish we could have stayed longer. The pods/ site / location all far exceeded our expectations. We had what we believed to be the best positioned pod in which we had a double air bed, 2x camp beds, a travel cot, the dog as well as suitcase and bags of stuff with room to spare. On a cooler evening we lifted the airbed up against the wall for ample living space. Out side the pod there is able decking with a lovely wooden bench that folds into a sturdy picnic table that we used daily. The porch had ample coverage for our shoes and wet stuff and some camping stuff used for cooking and the like. We believed we knew what we were getting and had read many many reviews, but our stay far exceeded all of that. Kate's recommendations of places to visit were perfect. There is so much to see and do. We absolutely loved Barnard 'Barny' Castle and enjoyed our brief visit to Richmond too (Geez the castle is high!!). Random drives locally found us in beautiful quaint villages with gorgeous tea rooms, High Force was magnificent and memorable for the children, and many hours were enjoyed in and around the Winston Bridget and the Teeside walk right next to Hillcrest Park which is enriched in history we've begun looking into. So thank you very much, we would love to return for longer next year. Oh and that bacon that Kate sells in the site shop, YUM! Can't wait to go back.

Great, small, quiet, not overdeveloped camp site with clean warm pods. Facilities such as toilets and showers immaculate. Dotties the on site takeaway does great breakfasts and afternoon tea which are great value. Georgian Theatre in Richmond and the Forbidden Corner are both worth a visit. Excellent weekend stay xxx

We had a fantastic time here. We came with a 15 month old toddler, had no problems, and he loved it. The camping pods and facilities are great, and we where made to feel so welcome by Kate and Ed. The site is beautiful, peaceful and the location, overall, is incredible. Theres so much to do that I wish we could have stayed longer. I would definitely return and recommend this site. Pack your Insect spray as there are a few pesky Midge's around, but it didn't hamper a great holiday!

Ed and I own and run Hillcrest Park, which is a small holiday park in Teesdale - one of the Northernmost of the Yorkshire Dales. It's our home as well as our business, so we like to make sure people feel welcome, whether they're staying in one of our cottages, pods or bringing their own motorhome or caravan.
