Big Sur Stone House is a fully sustainable ocean view home in the center of a wide marine terrace with uninterrupted views of the Pacific coast to each far horizon.
One can hear the waves and watch the surf from seven rooms of the house.
The gardens and grounds of the forty acre property adjoining the protected lands of the Los Padres National Forest create a completely secure enclave above the Pacific Coast Highway. Sole access is by private gated road. Guests at the house often say that this is the most beautiful spot they have ever found in round the world travels..
The off-grid, three-bedroom stone-built home was designed by an architect who specializes in sustainable architecture. The house is built in three closely connected but separate wings for the maximum amount of quiet and privacy, each with full direct views of the ocean. The Cottage Wing includes the kitchen, dining area, laundry, bedroom and full bath. The Studio Wing includes a large library and media room with a half bath; the adjacent Master Bedroom and Master Bath has single spa tub. A few feet away wholly separate stone walled Sunset Room has a magnificent view of the ocean waves and the moon and stars at night from the queen bed.
There are also ocean views from the Sunset room bath and shower.
The house complex has a fully stocked library, including a complete collection of music CDs, phonograph records of many genres, an extensive DVD film collection. The house has wireless WIFI and HDTV with full DirecTV premium satellite service.
The house has radiant floor heating throughout with tile and maple floors. The bathrooms and kitchen are served by both conventional and reverse osmosis water systems and have granite and onyx counter-tops.
Hiking trails for the Los Padres National Forest begin at the entrance to the private driveway.
The undeveloped beaches and coastal meadow of Pacific Valley below the house is an easy walk to the beach with a picnic lunch and a fine bottle of Pinot Noir. A popular public surfing beach, San Dollar State Beach, is 1.3 miles south of Big Sur Stone House and can be reached by biking or by car. Para-gliding the ocean thermals above the property is also a popular local sport.
Big Sur Stone House is 31 miles from the small shops and stores of Big Sur, the Post Ranch Inn, the Ventana Inn and Spa, and Nepenthe Restaurant. The house is 40 miles north from Cambria, California. It is approximately one and one half hours from Paso Robles Wine country (29.6 miles); three and half hours north of Santa Barbara (179 miles), and approximately four and a half hours north of Los Angeles (273 miles).
No events without owner approval and will be subject to additional rate.
Additional guests beyond the first two will increase the rate charged.
Please provide us with as much information as possible about any extra potential guests you have in mind in order to determine the suitability of the arrangements.
Events, such as weddings, and other gatherings are necessarily a separate arrangement and are charged a separate cost from overnight stays and are based on the size of the event and its impact on the house and property and its resources.
Privacy and Prohibited Commercial Uses
The house and property are exclusively designed for, and limited to, the domestic use of the owners and guests. Guests during their stay may photograph the property for their own personal use. Under no circumstances may any individual record, photograph, or film in any digital or analog format the house or the property for any commercial use whatsoever. Violation of the privacy rights of the owners or guests or the prohibition against commercial use of images of the house and property or guests are strictly enforced and will result in civil and criminal penalties.
In all circumstances the owner will be notified of all gatherings, visitors and guests. The same charges apply to overnight guests to the house not identified before occupancy. In some cases, if, in the owners sole discretion, it is determined that an attempt was purposefully made to add to, or hide, the number of guests on the property not previously identified in the rental contract, the renter forfeits all rights to occupancy and the contract will be void with no refund of any amount paid. If it is determined that a unauthorized individuals or individuals entered the property during your stay with your knowledge or encouragement and any damage or loss of property occurred during that period you will be liable for damages.
The parties booking the house will give immediate notice to the owners of any interruption of services, or any damage to the house or property or its contents, from any cause whatsoever. Smoking is prohibited inside the house.
Any reservation that we feel in our sole discretion to have been obtained under false pretense, to our detriment, will be subject to immediate cancellation and forfeiture of funds advanced (whether rent or deposit), and the party will not be permitted to check-in. Or, if occupancy has already begun, it will be immediately terminated. We have never had to exercise this provision, and hope to never have to.
We have made every effort to ensure that the unit is well maintained, sound, and safe. It is understood and agreed that we shall not be held liable for any injuries, accidents, or other harm resulting to person or property.
Any exceptions to the above mentioned policies must be approved in writing in advance. For the mutual convenience of the parties, it is understood and agreed that by making payment as requested, I, (the Guest) shall have acknowledged and consented to all terms and conditions of this agreement, on behalf of myself and those in my party.
