Bert and Sharon, The Airbnb community consists of all levels of experiences. We are a working couple with commitments outside of home. There are times we are available to socialize with our guests, even take them to events on our dime. But mostly our guests have their own schedule, convention or people to meet. Many hosts are available to make breakfast, drive guests to the airport (for a fee) and entertain during their stay. Our kitchen and common areas are open and our guests are welcome to help themselves. I will most definitely review our description to ensure it reflects those features.
Checking in without someone present is not uncommon at Airbnb. However, we waited as long as we could for you to get through traffic (to be expected on a Friday) and then provided an alternative.
We did enjoy hearing about your family, hobbies, travels and the history of Long Beach. We will most certainly work on trying to get the bed secured, now that you have mentioned it. It's never been an issue prior to your visit.
As for the toilet. It's pretty standard. But then again neither of us are over 6 foot tall! ;0). Maybe in our next incarnation. Cheers,
