Description

The space

The Loft contains a queen bed, and a twin-seater pull-out couch (more suitable for children than adults), en-suite bathroom and small kitchenette containing microwave, electric fry pan, fridge + cutlery, crackers etc.

Guest access

Guests are free to access The Loft (via stairs) and grounds, including pond.
Keys will be in a lock box of which details will be provided closer to your stay.

Interaction with guests

Due to my wandering ways I may, or may not be around to greet you on arrival, but with access information you are able to move in immediately and make yourselves at home.
Also - initial contact may take longer than 12 hours due to lack of cell coverage and internet (cell is available in Arthur's Pass and internet across the road at the Bealey Hotel), so please be patient should you not hear from me.

The neighbourhood

Arthur's Pass village (10 min by car) hosts a Department of Conservation (DOC) Visitor Information Centre, a village Store (incl petrol/diesel, but with limited provisions), restaurants, bar, communications, and numerous walking tracks.
The adjacent Bealey Hotel offers breakfast, lunch and dinner, - and communications in the form of WIFI and public phone.
Bealey is a gateway to numerous day/overnight walks, mountain bike trails, hunting, fishing, caving, rock climbing, skiing and general outdoor activities.

Getting around

Access to Bealey Spur and Waimakariri River tracks is within walking distance. Many Arthur's Pass day/overnight treks are within 10 min drive.
Daily public buses will stop at the Hotel. If arriving by train, a local transfer service may be available - please enquire when booking.

Other things to note

Please be aware that Bealey is an isolated place. It is 12kms to the nearest village where there is a store with very limited supplies (no fresh veg). If you are wishing to grocery shop it is advisable to do so on the West Coast (Greymouth or Hokitika) or in Christchurch on the East Coast before heading up to the mountains.

House Rules
Check in is anytime after 3PM

Please do not feed the wildlife, they are more than able to fend for themselves!
If using the pull-out couch, linen is in the wardrobe. Please put mattress protector down first, followed by both sheets, then duvet and pillows. Upon leaving please pack duvet, pillows and mattress protector away, leaving linen/towels out for the cleaner.
Please ensure all dishes are clean and stored in their rightful places, and that bed are stripped, and dirty laundry is placed on the floor (in bathroom if damp).
Due to Bealey's remoteness, and my comings and goings, it would be very much appreciated is rubbish could be taken with you on departure. (Rubbish skips are in Arthur's Pass and Springfield)
Thanking you in advance and, with appreciation.....

Rochelle was lovely. Her small loft apartment was easy to find and very cosy. Literally across the road from a pub which has a decent kitchen. Would happily stay there again next time we're passing through.

Basic loft room - perfect for a quick stopover before exploring the nearby mountains.

Enjoyed our night amongst the mountains. It was great being so close to Arthur's Pass. We were warm and cosy. We had 3 adults and one port-a-cot for our one-year old. It was a little bit tight for us adults, but still nice. Would be perfect for a couple or a family with a couple of young kids. Thanks for an enjoyable night with gorgeous scenery.

Rochelle's place is perfect if you like the quiet and beautiful views right from the loft. The room was basic, but entirely fine for the two of us.

We stayed here for a night on a roadtrip stopover. The communication was appropriate throughout. The apartment itself is small, and certainly not "modern" or "well appointed" as described. We were hoping to have a drink using ice from the "fridge with ice compartment" but there was none, unfortunately. Luckily the apartment was adjacent to the Bealey Hotel so we had a drink there instead. The bed is horrendously soft so those with a bad back beware. The linen is fairly seedy-looking satin. The apartment is exposed to road noise which was unexpected. All in all, probably about $40 more per night than should rightfully be charged. If we had to stay in Arthur's Pass again and this place was still charging $130+ we'd look elsewhere e.g. Bealey Hotel or further up in Arthur's Pass. Cheers!

Response from Rochelle:
Michael I am sorry The Loft did not meet your high expectations. It is small - yes, and is pictured as so. It is equipped with essential items for a short-term stay. The ice compartment will freeze small food items. I do not supply pre-made ice for safety reasons. I am sorry you found the bed soft, but the linen is definitely cotton. If you are referring to the duvet cover, I cannot account for everybody's taste. The apartment is exposed to some road noise, as is my house and the accompanying cottage and that is due to living next to a State Highway. Should you choose to stay in the area again, I can recommend the Bealey Hotel at $170+ or the village of Arthur's Pass where you will not only have road noise but shunting trains. I hope you enjoy the remainder of your travels around New Zealand, and have better luck finding more suitable accommodation. Wishing you safe travels.....

Good place to spend a night if you are driving through Arthur's pass and want to check out some of the hikes in that area or split up your drive. Rochelle's place is very clean and comfortable, check-in was easy and everything was as described. The room is tiny as is mentioned, especially for the price, although I am not sure how it compares in terms of price and size to other options in that immediate vicinity. There were 3 of us, and it worked out fine since we were only there 1 night and didn't plan to spend much time in the room, but I'd say it's best for two people otherwise. Our friend did find the sofa bed to be comfortable though. We were also pleasantly surprised by the food at the Bealey hotel across the street, which is also where you need to go if you want to use the wifi (which you have to pay for).

Great view, but the other reviewers weren't lying when they said it's tiny! If all you need is a place to sleep in Arthur's Pass, this place is for you. One bonus - only place we've stayed in NZ with screens on the windows. Life-saver to keep the sand flies out!

I am very passionate about travel and the wilderness, whether mountaineering, trekking, hunting, fishing, exploring some distant corner of the globe, or taking photographs - the expectation of heading away somewhere keeps me enthusiastic about life.
