An idylic romantic haven- this is a classic rural Irish farmhouse nestled at the foot of Saddle Hill in South Kilkenny-a perfect base to tour the sunny South East of the country while being immersed in an idyllic country setting in close proximity to main national routes.
Sth. Co. Kilkenny is at the heart of Ireland's Ancient East, is rich in Festivals, Arts, Culture, Craft,History & Tradition-with a wealth of activities to avail of in the immediate area from a lively city to land, river & sea

The space

This newly renovated, open-plan cottage comprises of a living area with a traditional stove and sofa bed, a well equipped kitchen, a dining area for 3-4 persons, a downstairs wet room with electric shower, a ‘boot room’ for storage and a spiral stairway to the open loft which accommodates a king size double bed.

The Swallow Snug is an ideal getaway experience for a couple. The double sofa bed in the living area could be used for more people if required -more than two people incurs an extra rate of €30.00 per person per night. Please be advised that this is an open plan studio space with the extra accommodation in the common area and would not be ideal for couples requiring privacy on their stay.

A rustic retreat- it is perfect for a quiet getaway experience - all the while centrally located - being only 19 kms from the vibrant city of medieval Kilkenny, a city full of life and soul- and being easily accessible to the viking city of Waterford and its Copper Coast with the newly opened Deise Greenway and historic Wexford with its expanse of beautiful beaches.

Snuggle up in this cozy haven with a complimentary basket of turf on arrival and relax your time away from the demands of modern technology, connecting with the surrounding rural resonances of this picturesque farming area.

The swallow snug could suit a small family for a short term stay- however privacy and space is compromised when the sofa bed is in use. A travel cot is available for a baby but the space is not ideal for a toddler because of the spiral staircase.
Dogs can be accommodated but are not allowed in the house itself- with respect to other guests who can be guaranteed a dog-hair free space.

This was our first 2 nights in Ireland and we may as we'll have stayed with our favorite cousin. Theresa is an angle. She welcomed us warmly and provided all of the fixings for full breakfast, including veggies from her garden. Swallows Snug is perfectly named as a place where you will settle in and discover the sweet soul of Ireland.

The space was lovely! Enjoyed the peace and quiet of the rural community. The cottage was clean and up to date with everything you need to make dinner or breakfast. Therese even gave us some spuds from the garden!

This was just the picturesque countryside retreat we were looking for. Old country charm with all of the modern amenities. The place was as described. Therese was a fantastic host and was very attentive to all of our needs and helpful with offering suggestions of things to do nearby. Would highly recommend for any couple looking for a quiet scenic getaway!

Therese has done a wonderful job in creating a cozy home away from home. She went out of her way to meet us and guide us back to the Snug. Yes, she did give directions but bonehead that I am did not print those out. Do yourself a favor and spend at lease 3 days or more, this was hands down the best of our trip - thanks Therese!

Response from Thérèse:
The Swallow Snug is an easy 7kms from Inistioge but when lost and jet lagged you can be excused for letting the Irish country roads confound you, Donna ! Glad you enjoyed, Therese

This is a lovely little barn conversion to stay at. It is tastefully done and really suits a couple. There is ample space to unpack your belongings. We stayed in summer, and it was a bit chilly. Therese kindly lit us a fire which was wonderful, but keep in mind, there are extra costs for heating after you use the one basket of peat and wood. This is of course highlighted when you book, but because you don't know before you get there that there isn't good insulation in the barn, you presume you won't need to burn extra fuel. The kitchen is well designed with all the equipment you need. If you are staying a couple of days, make sure you bring some milk and some extra breakfast supplies. Therese was easily contactable and is happy to help in any way she can. She gave us good local advice, and went out of her way to help with our washing which we had accumulated in our travels through Ireland. This was very kind of her, and we enjoyed our stay here.

Response from Thérèse:
Maureen Thank you for all your suggestions and feedback- I have made the changes on the website that you mooted with regard to the welcome basket as opposed to breakfast. The Swallow Snug is a self-contained cottage more suited to independent guests. It is recently refurbished with extra roof insulation- the welcome basket of fuel is enough for two good fires in the summer-I think we were all surprised by the sudden drop in temperature the night you visited! Due to guests' varying needs, I have opted for a basic rate for my listing with optional extras as specified within the listing and I am always open to providing more fuel as specified in the House Manual and in the interest of good ole Irish hospitality would never see a guest or a neighbour stuck for a drop of milk!

Thérèse place is a charming little house very comfortable. She is really a superhost, always available. The location is perfect, is quiet but near to a lot of interesting places, like Killarney, or the little village of Kells. I heartly recommend it.

Response from Thérèse:
Monica- you mean the nearby city of Kilkenny, just 18kms from Thomastown. Maybe you will see Killarney if you drive south west to Kerry!! Happy Holidays , Therese

I am originally a city girl who is well adjusted to rural life - so much so that I wanted to share it with others and embarked on a labour of love creating the Swallow Snug. It is such a pleasure having guests who appreciate the ethos of the Snug and value its surroundings an…
