About this listing

Chillin'Out Guest Farm is all about appreciating the look on a child's face when they feed donkeys and milk cows, or the love amongst family and friends over a hot loaf of freshly baked bread and creamy milk. This hidden gem is a must visit!

The space

Dear Guest,

Welcome to Chillin’ Out. We are a self catering guest farm focusing on self sufficiency and quality of life. We look forward to you sharing this piece of paradise with us during your stay. Your hosts are Ivor and Ingrid Dickson.

We are nestled at the foot of the Outeniqua mountains and are a couple of hundred metres from the Knysna State Forest (home to elephants, wild cats including leopard and a lot more flora and fauna).

We are 25 kms from Sedgefield and halfway between George and Knysna. For sightseeing and activities, the entire stretch between Mosselbay and Plettenburg bay is in easy travelling distance for day trips.

The apartment is a spacious (100sqm) flat situated on top of the barn. It has the best view in the entire suburb of the forest and mountains. The sunrise and star gazing is unbeatable from the deck which has patio furniture to seat 6.

There are 2 bedrooms, a bathroom (shower only), a reading nook and open plan kitchen, dining room and lounge.

The main bedroom has a queen bed, wardrobe and chest of drawers. The second bedroom has 2 single beds, but a third bed can be installed if necessary. A cupboard is also available.

All facilities required for self catering are available in the kitchen. Also provided are towels, linen, electric blankets and a braai.

We are a self sufficient farm with just enough livestock to provide for our needs. As a result, we can afford the time to spoil our animals so they are extremely tame and used to human interaction.

We have sheep, a couple of cows (and the occasional calf) and chickens. Included in our menagerie are 3 donkeys (Choccie, Bella and Eeyore) that are the sweetest girls and enjoy being fed apples and carrots.

There are a number of activities for you/your kids at Chillin’ Out. We welcome your interest and will love to share a farming experience with you.

The schedule is:

(PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN) Grooming donkeys, letting out sheep and chickens

(PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN) Milking cows in the barn (all milking is done by hand. Come and try it!)

10:30 – 16:30 General farm activities, depending on the weather

16:30 – Cows, donkeys, chickens and sheep are put to bed (collect your own eggs!)

We are 20 minutes from Sedgefield beaches, watersports, fishing and entertainment. Make sure you take plenty of sunscreen with you!

Every Saturday is the Farmers Market in Sedgefield (next to the Engen Garage just outside of Sedgefield going towards George). It is open from 07:30 – 13:00. Enjoy!

Included in the price is a daily, freshly baked loaf of bread and creamy milk from the morning’s milking. Please note that our milk is unpasteurised but extremely clean.

We look forward to seeing you!

House Rules

As we are wonderfully removed from the hustle and bustle of the city, there are a few points we need to raise and would really appreciate your consideration in these matters in order to preserve our pristine environment.
•We use French drains, so please refrain from flushing anything except loo paper down the toilet.
•The flat is NON SMOKING, so please be considerate of the next guests and smoke only outside but at the same time be cognisant of the dry grass and potential fire hazard.
•We harvest rain water for all of our needs. Please do not waste water by running taps unnecessarily.
•Please do not start any fires except in the provided braai facilities. Also, please always use the ashtrays provided outside. If it is windy, please put a bit of water in the bottom to ensure cinders do not blow onto the dry grass.
•There are a number of open dams and a river on the property. Please ensure that your children are supervised at all times by an adult.
•Please don't remove any furniture or items from the flat on your departure.
•Chillin'Out is a place of peace. In these wide, open spaces, sound travels, especially at night. Please be kind to the neighbours and refrain from loud music and shouting.
•The flat will be serviced for an half an hour every morning from 09:00 – 09:30, except on Sundays. This is a basic service of collecting garbage and providing you with your bread and milk. Please assist our water conservation efforts by reusing your towels and linen for the duration of your stay, unless extremely soiled. If this is the case, please place the soiled items into the dirty linen basket.
•Should your stay exceed 5 days, we will change your linen every 5th day.
•As mentioned, we are close to nature. As a result, you may encounter some “creepy crawlies" that are going about their business, but we still need to keep a watchful eye out for some of them. If you are at all concerned, please give us a call and we will come and sort of the issue.
oBugs love lights. Please switch off all unnecessary lights to minimise attracting our flying friends.

Ingrid is a wonderful host! Our two kids loved following her around doing the farm chores. We harvested veggies from her beautiful organic garden for soup and salads. The kids enjoyed being up close to the sheep, donkeys, cows, chickens, and sweet yellow lab. Beds were super comfy and warm. We are so grateful for this special farm experience.

We had a great time on Ingrid's farm. The place is perfect to relax, enjoy the nature and of course be close to all the animals. Especially our little daughter loved to get in touch with them. Ingrid is a great host, very friendly and open. We got fresh baked bread every morning and could eat whatever grew in her garden. This is the right place for an authentic farm stay.

The farm was exactly what we wanted, a quiet place with animals and a place for the kids to explore. We loved seeing a day old baby lamb and picking veggies from the garden.

We have stayed in many Airbnb's around the world, and Ingrid is by far the most warm, attentive and generous host ever! Everything was perfect from start to end, the farm is magical and clearly built with love. We loved to be part of the farm life, spend time with the animals, get to know how everything is done. Ingrid gave us fresh baked bread every morning (delicious!), fresh milk, eggs, and access to organic vegetables and fruits. We really felt like we were part of the farm. She was on hand to help and really took care of us. We highly recommend staying with Ingrid, if you want to have the most wonderful time staying at a farm and experiencing all it's joys! We can't wait to return. Thank you so much!

Chillin' Out is a little piece of secluded out-of-the-rat-race heaven. We thoroughly enjoyed the stay and our little boy loved the farm experience. The accommodation is well equipped, lovely and clean, with crisp, fresh linen on the very comfy beds. Ingrid was a delightful host, always patient with our little one, even when he smashed her eggs by accident. The fresh milk and bread were the highlight of our mornings and sunset views from the terrace the highlight of our evenings. We were lucky enough to have two lambs born during our stay too! We can highly, highly recommend the farm to anyone wanting a taste of the good life or needing a break from the hum-drum.

I am reluctant to write this review and let the secret out. Chillin’Out can truly be described as a tiny piece of paradise. The farm is a true gem and an absolute must for anyone wanting a fairy-tale farm experience. The rooster announces the new day and a little while later Ingrid arrives with a delicious freshly baked loaf of bread. Ingrid is happy to share all the farm activities with her guests, from milking the cows, to collecting eggs, to brushing the donkeys. We were urgently summoned one afternoon as one of the sheep had just given birth to twin lambs – what an amazing experience. The farm is a delight and the animals are obviously loved and very well cared for – the 3 donkeys with their gorgeous soft lips are real characters and are spoilt each morning with a basket of apples and carrots. The cozy apartment above the barn has everything you need to feel just like home. Ingrid is a wonderful host and made us feel very welcome. I would highly recommend a visit to Chillin’Out.

This is one of the best experiences we have had with Airbnb (and all previous ones have been good!) The location is out of this world beautiful. It's calm, the animals are friendly, and there is tons to do in the surrounding area. The children had a great time being little farmers. Ingrid brought us fresh baked bread every morning. There was fresh milk as well. The shower was amazing. We were there in the winter and had fabulous warm duvets and electric blankets. This is an amazing place to stay either as a family, on a romantic get-away or for a working retreat. I can't wait to come back!
