The cottage "Il Torrino" can lodge from 4 to 7 people. Il Torrino is an historic and bright house and it offers, from one side panoramic, views of the Tuscan landscape, on the other side, a wonderful view on the appealing small square of the town.

The space

Il Torrino (4 +3 people) is an historic, bright and panoramic house. The kitchen of the house has been built within a small and ancient defensive tower, which is part of the town walls dating back to the XIII century, this tower is called 'Il Torrino'. The ground floor of the apartment consists of a large dining room, a kitchen, a living room and a laundry room. The dining room is characterized by a big table, two armchairs and by the presence of the kitchen, placed in this small tower. The kitchen is well furnished: there is the fridge, freezer, oven, gas cooker and the dishwasher. The living room has a sofa-bed, two armchairs, a table, a fireplace and a large window with panoramic views of the Chianti hills. On the ground floor ther is also a laundry room with washing-machine and laundry tub. On the first floor there is: a double bedroom with en-suite bathroom and an attic with a single bed; a bedroom with two single beds; a big bathroom with shower, bathtub, wc, bidet and washbasin; a balcony looking down on the appealing small square of the town. The whole house has been finely restored: it is furnished with period pieces, but it is at the same time confortable. Guests will enjoy the ample-sized rooms where they could relax theirselves and enjoy panoramic views of the Tuscan countryside.
Barberino is located in the heart of Chianti, from there you can easily reach the cities of Florence, Siena, San Gimignano (by public transport) Greve in Chianti, Gaiole, Radda, Castellina in Chianti, Volterra, Pisa, Arezzo etc.
However Barberino is not just a stopping point on the way to important towns: the village has its own wine and food, cultural and artistic peculiarities. It is the perfect location for couples or families who want to relax and spend a holiday in a quiet and welcoming atmosphere of a small Tuscan town, apart from big commercial tourist centres, which are often crowded and noisy. Barberino, with a population of just one thousand people, is a restful place both for villagers and visitors. Even if Barberino is a small village, it offers many facilities: there is a restaurant, an excellent Italian pizzeria, Café Bijou with free wi-fi, a bakery open every day, the supermarket "Coop", the village library with Internet-point, free of charge parking close to the apartment. Public transport services link Barberino to close towns. Lastly, it is possible to have walking and mountain bike tours, horseback riding vacations, as well as guided tours to the village's wine cellars.

Perfect vacations in a perfect place!:) Was the place close to the description? I would say - no, it was much much better!!:) If I have to point out the best points about the place I would say: amazing view (you can choose Chianti Hills on the one side or historical tuscany houses on the other side), atmosphere of the house (history, originality and vintage style all around), neighborhood (historical centre of the town, medieval architecture everywhere, good restaurans right near to the house), comfort (that's a really big house; Coop market 5 minutes away; 1/2 an hour to Florence, 1/2 an hour to Siena) and last but not least - very kind and helpfull hosts Franca and her daughter. I would absolutelly recomand this place!:)

We were under the impression that we were going to a little house in the Chianti " a real cottage". We were disappointed, because this is not " a cottage " but rather a "townhouse" located in front of the parking lot for residents. The table provided for us to drink a little wine at the end of the day, is set facing the so call piazza, wich has become the residents parking lot. For us, the parking was located down the hill, and finding a parking was an issue every night. Yes there is a view over a Tuscan hill, however there is the major road separating the proprety and the view, causing a lot of noise. The balcony overloking the so call "piazza" (parking lot), is located off a 2 piece bathroom and is minuscule. It is not condusive for anyone to sit there and relax. The pictures on the site show very bright rooms, however it is very dark and gloomy in this house. We did not find this place to be a "charming cottage" but rather a gloomy medieval townhouse. Dear Helen, I would like just to reply to your review on the basis of the description and photos you can see on our AIRBNB page and I do not what to mentioned also all the other complains you have done when you arrived in the house (as they were quite inappropriate). I am sure you did not even read our AIRBNB page. Actually this is also a suggestion for all your future travels. In fact if you do not read the descriptions of the houses where you are going to stay you will never be happy of your accomodation, because you are expecting something that is only in your mind, but is not the reality. In our AIRBNB page is written that Il Torrino is located in the city centre of Barberino and it is not in the countryside. The house has been built incorporating an ancient defensive tower of the town, so yes the house is a medieval house completely renovated. Moreover you cannot park in front of the house, but there are free of charge parkings 50-100 meters from the apartment, some parkings are on plane, while others are along the hill. Tuscany and specifically the Chianti area is composed mainly by hills, it is not a plain area, but actually this is the main peculiarity of this region. What you call "major road" that causes a lot of noise is only a local road that links the two small towns of Tavarnelle and Barberino, so you can understand that cannot be so noisy, moreover the windows looking down this street are those of the kitchen, the livingroom and the big bathroom and are not the windows of the two bedrooms. Please note that the street is not close to the house, the house is up the hill and between the street and the house there is another building and a garden. For what concerns the darkness of the house I do not have any comment... pictures of the house are enough!

PERFECT location in a beautiful, charming village. The house, where Franca Maria was raised, sits just off to the side of the church, and is part of the original wall of the city. The view from the back windows are of rolling countryside, while the front door opens to a charming and bustling little area of town--by bustling I don't mean noisy, but you'll be able to watch the outdoor restaurants set up for dinner, etc. Gives the location an lively feel, and you can sit outside at your little table and sip wine and take it all in but still be secluded. The house itself is full of antiques, pretty to look at and yet comfortable. The kitchen was fully stocked with everything you need for family meals. Franca Maria and her daughter, Bernadetta, were amazing hosts. They were genuinely friendly and lovely people, wanting to be sure not only our stay at their property, but all aspects of our trip were smooth. They repeately went out of their way to help us, calling for a rental car, helping us get our cell phone set up, etc. Franca Maria even found a box of toys for our children (age 5 and 2), kept them busy for hours! Check-in and check-out were prompt and smooth and perfect. The town of Barberina Val D'Elsa is small but quaint and quiet. You'll be able to walk to a supermarket, pizzaria, playground, wine bar, charming restaurants, sunset vista, and bus stops that will take you quickly to San Gimignano, Florence, etc. If you have a chance to stay on a Thursday in the summer, they town closes the streets to car traffic and sets up a street fair of booths selling food, wine, crafts, etc---lovely! If you do rent a car, you'll have access to all of Chianti. Had a great time, thanks!
