This is a reasonably active household that has lots of contact with both other Expats and local neighbors. We allow up to 6 local kids in the pool for a couple of hours about once a week. We also host a poker game once a week during the afternoons. We invite the young adult football team (or they invite themselves) to a fiesta at our home about once every two months. Mexico is VERY family oriented, so we can have as many as 30 to 40 family members at a fiesta. Although it can be busy from time to time, we recognize the need to be respectful of others needs as well. We ask our guests to respond accordingly.
We have a very welcoming home and have fun, but, this is not a continuous party house. Once in a while is welcome.

My wife, Paula, and I retired to Ajijic in early 2012 after a long career in finance & administration. Mostly in the Oil and Gas industry in Calgary. We also spent the last 5 years, before moving to Ajijic, as owner/managers of a mental health care facility with 26 residents in Cranbrook BC.
We live in the heart of our community and are very involved with our local culture and our Mexican neighbors. We support our local, young adult, football team, our local sewing and knitting club, host two Texas Holdem games a week as well as getting involved in way too many other local events and activities. We love it, however sometimes is sure doesn't feel like retirement.
In spite of our slow Spanish language progress, we likely have 10 local Mexican friends to every 1 of our Expat friends. Both of us are animal lovers who have rescued a number of friends in the past. Currently we have 3 small dogs, 3 cats, two parrots, three aquariums and 1 iguana. The iguana is not very friendly. We also love our huge incredible garden with well over 50 varieties of plants and 16 different fruit trees.
