The space

The Smith Homestead in Alford, Massachusetts has been in our family for well over two hundred years and was once a dairy farm. We are located in one of the nicest settings in the Berkshires, with over 25 acres of fields and woods, and the crystal clear Alford Brook running through. We provide accommodations for single or double occupancy in our East Room suite, composed of a sitting room with fireplace, a spacious bedroom and a luxurious spa bath. We have wireless internet access. We offer a light breakfast of coffee, tea, along with fresh seasonal fruits with yogurt and or granola, fresh croissants and bread.

Take hikes through our fields and woods. Look for wildlife. The bird watching is great, I love to see the bluebirds especially. We are minutes away from Tanglewood, the Norman Rockwell Museum, Kripalu, and many other Berkshire attractions. Great restaurants are nearby in the surrounding area.

Come stay with us, relax in the quiet, the calm, the babbling brook. We are sure you will be pleased!

We are also 15 minutes from Catamount Ski Area and Butternut Ski Area. Perfect location for skiiers!!

The suite was exactly as pictured and close to many things to see and do. If you're very focused on having a clean place to stay you'll like this one. Susan was an excellent hostess and her family very nice too!

The farm is bucolic, loved the clever dog, Beanie and Susan was helpful and accommodating. It was a great place to stay. I loved the fancy whirlpool tub and the genuine old house features

Hard to find such a luxurious bedroom suite among the rolling hills and farmland in the Berkshires...but that's what Susan's place is in Alford is. Dined at John Andrews farm-to-table in Egremont one night, with Jazz afterwards in Great Barrington...and next day went to a nearby historical tour of Edna St. Vincent Millay's home in Austerlitz. Was also greeted each morning with a basket of fresh fruit and tea...turning away the offerings of backed goods was a hard thing to do. Bring an old-fashioned map though, as (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN) Maps does not easily help with directions---with 1 star or no service in that part of the Country.

My wife booked this B&B for me to spend the night before our wedding, and I had the best experience here. Susan & Tom were wonderful hosts, and went out of their way to make me feel at home and ensure I was well fed and ready for the big day. I can't thank them enough! -Chris

We had a great experience. Susan and Tom were most accommodating, even drying our wet clothes after a rain storm. Warm muffins, excellent coffee and fruit were in a basket outside our door every morning. The room was spacious with a comfortable bed and private with its own entrance. The country setting was beautiful with rolling hills, a creek, and many stars in the night sky.

Response from Susan:
Thank you for your kind review, Beverly! You know, that bathroom door changes with the weather - just like to room door to the rest of the house. But I agree, we should shave it down some to relieve the sticking. Thanks! Susan

Hi, I'm Susan. My husband, Tom, and I love the Berkshires, the Caribbean (Vieques and Culebra) and non-resort style vacations. I love to quilt, do puzzles, read, look for stuff (on a beach or on hikes), and work around outside in the gardens. Tom loves old cars, searching for them and working on them. He is a very talented carpenter and woodworker. We love our dog, Perry and cat, Chloe, but do not allow them in our East Room suite (makes a big difference to those who have allergies)! Also, we cannot, cannot do without our morning, afternoon or evening coffee!
