My house is an 1895 red brick Victorian Farmhouse. My children have named one of the bedrooms as The Hollywood Horror Set, because it is in need of re-decoration. The room is 15'x16', with one large window, a double bed, a closet, a 40" T.V.

The space

One room has faded, peeling but charming wallpaper and wifi. The other room downstairs is in The Teenage Boy Recovery period. It is clean and habitable with a double bed, lots of windows, a door that closes and wifi. The two downstairs bedrooms would share the bath, if both rooms were rented at the same time. There is also a walk-through closet connecting the two rooms if two couples or a family stayed here together and rented both rooms at the same time. I have a third bedroom possibility upstairs, which I have named the Princess Palace. It was my daughter's bedroom. It is a very large room, with an antique double bed, but the guest would have to share the bathroom, the 5' claw-foot tub and the shower. There is an as-yet unfinished but usable covered deck off this bedroom.

Guest access

My house comes with two outside cats, two indoor cats and two German Shepherd dogs, who are very friendly. My guests will rent rooms on the downstairs floor. The bedrooms on this floor have a mostly private bath down the hall, and access to my kitchen, my dining room, my living room and, weather/season permitting, my yard. I also have a shower upstairs which guests can use if they do not wish to use the claw-foot tub with hand held shower in the downstairs bathroom. The guests would be welcome to use the washer and dryer when they are not in use by me.

Interaction with guests

I work, so the guest would be on his or her own for meals. There is a terrific grocery store about a quarter mile away, with many options. Outside of my work time, I am available for any level of interaction my guests would like.

Other things to note

There is a terrific grocery store about a quarter mile away, and a lovely shopping development with restaurants and a movie theater about a third of a mile away. There is a train station that runs from Ogden to Salt Lake in the same development. My house is in a small community up next to the foothills of the Wasatch Front. We are half-way between the two cities of Ogden and Salt Lake, and we are midway between the ski resorts that are east of both Ogden and Salt Lake. My house is an easy walking distance from Lagoon, the only amusement park between Colorado and California. Farmington Canyon is beautiful, and is close. Farmington Peak is at 9,000 feet. There are hiking and biking trails within .25-1 mile away, although the house is close to the freeway. I am about 20 minutes from downtown Salt Lake, 25 minutes from downtown Ogden, and 25 minutes from the airport.

House Rules

I would expect my guests to clean up after themselves in the kitchen and the other common rooms of the house. I do not give out keys, but would leave the door open if the guest were to come in later than 10:00, and the guest would be asked to lock the front door. The guest would be advised to keep the bedroom door latched tightly, unless he/she/they want to be visited by multiple animals.I would expect the guests to respect the fact that I work and refrain from loud party-ing. The animals are part of the fabric of the home in more ways than one, although the dogs do not get onto the furniture, so if you aren't comfortable with dogs and cats, you probably won't be comfortable here. I do provide copious rolls of packing tape to de-fur clothing. And the washer and dryer as mentioned.

Dorothy is a great host with 2 very friendly German shepherds and 2 cute cats. It's great because you can play with them all you want and not have any of the responsibilities of taking care of them (selfish I know). The house itself is old but has a washer and dryer and doesn't seem to get too hot/cold (probably because of the all the trees in the neighborhood). You will have to have wash your dishes as the dishwasher is not functional. I lived here while I was working temporarily at Hill AFB. The area (Farmington) is actually really nice and not what I was expecting for the price. It's mostly residential but there is a shopping mall just across the freeway (less than 2 minutes from Dorothys house). There is also a pretty sweet amusement park that you can walk to in >5min. I'd say the only downside is that the street Dorothy lives on is somewhat busy (though parking has never been an issue for me).

Dorothy is very friendly, clean house. I loved the dogs but a routine needs to be learned(not difficult to do)

I lived here for 4 months and I wish I didn't have to leave..Animal Lover's Paradise is my home away from home. This historical two level home has charm and beauty. However, what makes this place truly magical is the hostess with the mostest, Dorothy and her animals. She is welcoming with open arms, a big heart, and a lively spirit. I highly reccomend this home if you are someone who is easy-going, a lover of kitties and big puppies, and looking for a long term lease (1 month or more). There is also a trail close by if you are looking to hike. I will be booking her next time I am in the area.

Response from Dorothy:
The house is draped in crepe following your departure. Can't wait until you can come back. Greet Alex.

Going to Dorothy's is like staying with an old family friend. You have to be an animal lover to stay there...and that's what makes it a delight...two beautiful German Shepherds, two inquisitive Siamese. Plus the secret garden outback. If you're fussy, this isn't the place for you...if you want a great night sleep in a historical setting, this is the place!

Dorothy was very nice, she stayed up late to accommodate my late arrival, her dogs were very nice as well, the room was a bit warm during the heat wave but cooled off soon after I opened the window. The room was as described, I would stay again!

I'm the one on the left in the picture. I am a Wisconsin girl by birth, and at heart. I attended St. Olaf in the early '70s, where I sang in the St. Olaf Choir. Theater was my love and sometime employer for 35+ years here in Utah. Alas, the one on the right (and her brother) wanted to go to college, (children are so selfish) and so all good things must at least morph into other new things, and I am now a special education teacher full time. I am not able to travel at this time, so I want travelers to come to me.
