Sunny and spacious charming vintage one-bedroom flat in the heart of a very safe neighborhood with easy access to public transit. A gem in a great neighborhood in a great city!

CAT LOVERS ONLY: I have a kitten, so potential guests must be cat lovers and free of cat allergies.

Please read my profile before requesting to book.

The space

Large, sunny, one bedroom apartment (living room, dining room, bedroom, kitchen, bath, patio) in the super-safe and charming Roscoe Village / North Center neighborhood. Ideal for solo travelers, couples, a few friends, or a very small family. Queen bed (very comfortable!) in bedroom and day bed (real twin) in living room. Option for air mattress on request. There is a swinging door which separates the living room area from the rest of the apartment, so anyone sleeping in the living room will have some privacy.

Other notes: Back patio; garden courtyard; laundry room; dishwasher; 1 block from Trader Joe's grocery store; steps away from Damen bus; 8 minute walk to Brown Line 'L' train; 1 block from Divvy Bicycle Rental; tons of free and easy street parking. Short walk to great restaurants and bars, shopping, cafes, music venues, boutiques, salons, etc, etc...

I truly love this neighborhood and location. I can get to the Loop with an easy 18-25 minute 'L' ride (or 15 minutes via car); jump on the Damen bus and I'm in Wicker Park in 10 minutes; I'm a mile from Wrigley Field; 2 miles from the lakefront. The neighborhood is one of the safest in the city, tons of parks and extremely well-maintained. It's the perfect blend of a residential and bustling urban neighborhood, with great restaurants, boutiques, theatre, comedy clubs, nightlife, antique stores, and music venues just a short walk away in any direction.

Air conditioning units are available from mid-June through late August only.

**PLEASE MESSAGE ME FIRST BEFORE SENDING A BOOKING REQUEST and tell me a little bit about yourself and your reasons for your travels. I love to know my guests :) Also, please no requests for young children, and please no requests for discounts. THANKS! :) **

Guest access

Other things to note

My flat is near the Chicago Fire Department. The firemen, who sit outside the station day and night in nice weather, further add to the security of the street. It can be a little noisy at times, but they turn off their sirens during nighttime sleeping hours.

Petra's apartment was extremely cozy, and we loved the location. It truly felt like a home away from home, with lots of restaurants and pubs within walking distance. We much preferred it to anywhere else we've stayed in Chicago. Although we didn't meet Petra in person as she was also traveling, she was so welcoming and responsive, and her communications totally enhanced our experience. Thank you Petra!

I stayed with my wife and two kids for 10 days in Petra's appartment. It was exactly the way it is described on the platform. Even though Petra was not around when we arrived she had organised it perfectly for us to get access to the appartment. The location is very convenient with lots of bars and restaurants around the flat. Also, in no time one is at the CTA station and can take a ride of roughly 15min to downtown Chicago. Parking on the sidestreets was no problem either and the area is very safe. The appartment itself is very spacious and was big enough for us. Thank you very much!

Petra's apartment is great for a stay in the northern 'burbs of Chicago. The apartment is very clean and pretty much as described, though the photos show is as very bright and open, but because of the location one tends to keep the blinds down in the living room, or at least they were down when I arrived, and remained so, for the most part.). Old building, with old building charm, character and oddities. The neighborhood is quiet and safe, though the apartment faces a busy street and is directly across from the fire house, so you hear the fire calls all day long, and the guys laughing and talking when they have down time and sit on the outside benches; however, by 10 o'clock at night they've closed the doors and retired for the evening, unless of course there is a call, but they don't seem to use sirens, etc. at night, so overall pretty quiet. There is no water pressure, really, in the shower, if that matters. If you intend on cooking, the kitchen is very basic, with just one medium size pot and a couple of frying pans available, as far as I could tell, so plan accordingly. Trader Joe's is just a couple of blocks away. Petra is attentive and charming, handling all the details promptly even though she was out of town. I had no problems at all, but local contacts were made available if needed. Overall a good experience; I would certainly consider going back if I needed to stay in that area again. It was great for my almost 2-week stay.

Response from Pate:
Just a quick but important clarification---the apartment is not in the ¨burbs¨, it´s most definitely in the city of Chicago! :) Regarding the light in the apartment--there is at least one window facing every direction, and on sunny days it gets a wonderful morning light in the front rooms. Afternoon sun isn´t as bright, but comes in through the back kitchen window. I only close the blinds at night, so I really enjoy my bright apartment! It´s one of my favorite things about the aparmtent, actually, so don´t hesitate to keep the blinds open during the day!

I'm a single mother to a 10-year-old and a photographer by trade and by passion (and have a pretty bad case of wanderlust). With my camera and suitcase in hand, I'm the most happy!

Fun fact: I was a cast member on the Danish TV show "Alt for Danmark" ("Everything for Denmark"), which aired in Fall 2012. The show is about 14 Danish-Americans who come to Denmark to learn more about the country and culture of our ancestors. I completely fell in love with Denmark during my time there and plan to come back to visit every year (if at all possible!).

Please note: This is my home and not a rental property, and I'm now only accepting well-reviewed guests who are also hosts. For me, Airbnb will always be about sharing my home with like-minded, easy-going travelers, not turning my home into a hotel or being treated as a concierge. If you love old, vintage homes, are friendly, low-maintenance, and have realistic expectations, and will treat my home like you would your own, then send me a message and we'll take it from there! :)

In your message, please tell me:

1) Your age, where you live, and the reason for your trip to Chicago;

2) Your favorite Airbnb experience;

3) Your least favorite Airbnb experience;

4) Confirm that you don't have cat allergies and are aware that a cat lives in my home (although she won't be home during your stay)
