The space

The Willcox house is located at San Andrés y Sauces (La Palma island, Canary islands). The municipality stands out for its dense laurisilva woods, deep valleys and the banana tree terraces. Some interesting places are the forest of Los Tilos, the springs of Marcos and Cordero, El Charco Azul (the Blue Pool- natural swmming pools) and Puerto Spindola (Port of Spindola). The Willcox house is situated on a footpath that goes from San Andrés (s. XVI) to the Charco Azul, on a promontory of volcanic rock at The Atlantic Ocean. It was built in 1985 by Maurice Berersford Willcox, an English arquitec. The arquitecture of the house allows the inhabitants to get a taste of the special setting: the sea, the banana tree plantations, the sky with its sunrises over the ocean and nights full of stars.
Entering the Willcox house, means isolated from the outside world and live a unique site.
There are small lizards native of the island of La Palma and protected.

The house is marvelously located and offers great views on sea and rocks. And it is within easy walking reach of San Andrés. It has a very special, cozy athmosphere, because the space itself is not big, and because of the structure of the house ( different levels with different small stairs) it gives it a somewhat unique feel. The terrace is great for having brreakfast as it located east- south. Don't expect modernity, you have all you need , but in a rather rustic version. As you can see by the way in the pictures on the site. Jésus was our host and he did a great job in explaining and mostly showing ( our Spanish is close to zero) everything about the house. For those who want a somewhat special house, with great views on the sea, secluded but not at the end of the world, and who like to go to sleep with the sound of waves, this is a perfect place to go to.

Valeriano and Teresa were wonderfull hosts. They went out of their way to arrange extras for us just to make sure we would be as comfortable as could be. Nothing was too much. The house was in a fantastic location and fully met up to our expectations. Also the welcoming package was a very pleasant suprise. We enjoyed every minute that we spend there and hope to come back someday!

A truly amazing experience to stay in Valeriano and Teresa's property, waking in the morning to the wild Atlantic beneath your balcony and gorgeous scenery. The property itself is so well equipped you really don't have to leave, they've thought of everything! We were made to feel so welcome by this beautiful couple we cannot thank you enough. We had a fantastic time at The Willcox house. From the moment we arrived, Jesus the local guide, gave us the lowdown on everything to do with the house and the local area. The house itself is situated right on the cliff overlooking the sea, the views from all of the outdoor areas (and there are quite a few of them) are incredible. Everything is well taken care of (plenty towels etc.) and the kitchen fully stocked. Valeriano was great to deal with, very communicative, friendly and was excellent at sorting out a special request (cake and champagne for a birthday), much appreciated Valeriano! The location is on the North-East side of the island, we spoke to a few locals during our stay and they said it tends to be a little cloudier/wetter on that side of the island compared to the South/West. Makes the scenery incredibly lush and green. There are some great walks/hikes not far from the house, Chaco Azul is a short walk (you must eat at the little restaurant/bar there) and also the neighboring village of San Andre is a short walk (with 2 nice cafe's/restaurants). A couple of activities that I would recommend; the Astro Safari, Paragliding, the spa at the Princess Hotel, and of-course Roque de los Muchachos. A couple of notes that might be helpful to other guests; The island is VERY mountainous and steep, therefore roads are very windy, so be prepared when driving. Also, all shops/supermarkets are closed on a Sunday so if you arrive Saturday evening (like we did) make sure you have enough food/essentials to last you till Monday. I would definitely recommend staying

We had a great time at The Willcox House. The setting right on top of the rocks and so close to the sea is dramatic and the views down the coast and across the sea to Tenerife and La Gomera are fantastic – great for breakfasts on the terrace and night-time star gazing from the laundry turret. The house is adaptable for different combinations of guests, as it has two parts, meaning one bedroom and a further room are separate from the main living space – this worked well for us, staying with our baby and parents. The elements have scruffed up the crisp white architectural splendour, and the house is more characterful and quirky than immaculate design magazine in style – you really get the feeling of staying in a treasured family home. The kitchen is small but very well equipped and the living room was cosy with the wood burner, even on some damp and chilly winter evenings. Valeriano the owner and Jesus the very friendly local host are extremely accommodating, generous and helpful, going out of their way to make sure we had everything we needed and providing excellent restaurant recommendations (go to El Azul, it makes a lovely day trip). The house backs on to a wide well paved coastal promenade, leading one way to the charming village of San Andres (past what looks to be a new pizza restaurant opening up) and the other to the Charco Azul natural pools, which are just a few minutes’ walk.

May be the best house of La Palma! This place and the setting made it really easy to relax a soon as we arrived. It was even better then we expected. The sea view from the terrace is so beautiful that you think about staying there for the entire vacation. All the communication with Valeriano and Teresa went perfect and they were very caring and welcoming. Jésus who showed us the house was also very very nice, helpful and welcoming. We also really enjoyed the nearby restaurants in San Andrés and the natural pool with its very nice bar. We definitely would love to go there again someday because at the moment we just miss this nice paradise ... Thanks again for everything!
