If you thought Sicily was just about beaches, it’s time to think again!
We are blessed with a great region of Italy and a long history of hospitality.
Welcome to Baglio Gurafo!
Baglio Gurafo is in Raffo, a tiny hilltop village in the countryside of Petralia Soprana, 1147 meters above sea level, in the Madonie Park.
Baglio means court/courtyard and Gurafo is the ancient name for Raffo.
You don’t come across Raffo – Petralia Soprana by chance. It is on a mountain-top that is not often on tourist routes.
Most of us live very connected lives and it is nearly impossible to "get lost" for a while. If your choice is not to race around, visiting every must-see place, then Raffo is the right nice spot for you.
Staying at our place and sharing our world will let you relax and settle into the rhythm of local Sicilian life.
We can arrange visits to an olive mill, wine and cheese tasting, visits to local markets, beginners or advanced hands-on cooking classes that will let you taste simple delicious recipes, Sicilian style.
Baglio Gurafo is also an ideal touring base to visit the towns of the area and to discover hidden treasures of a charming but less known Sicily with its scents, flavours and atmospheres. The towns of Petralia Sottana, Petralia Soprana, Castellana, Polizzi, Geraci and Gangi offer an undescribable natural, historical, architectural, and gastronomic heritage, as well as fairs, feasts, folkloric events, parades, horse tourneys, and falconry exhibitions held in medieval costumes and settings.
Not too far from Baglio Gurafo are ski lifts, covered swimming-pools, tennis courts, and horse riding stables. An unusual attraction is the rock-salt mine in Raffo which has been worked for forty-five years and now employs modern extractive and refining technologies. The salt mine can be visited upon request and is open to the public during "The rock-salt feast".
In August "The International Festival of Folklore" is held (which celebrates Sicilian folklore.) Bands and artists from around the world attend this event. And if you feel like swimming in the blue Tyrrhenian Sea, the coast with its beautiful beaches is just 50 minutes away.
Our house was an ancient building, recently restored and redecorated with traditional materials.
In our large court, just in front of the beautiful mountains, the oven and the barbeque are also at guests’ disposal.
Rooms “match” with the country-style but at the same time they are provided with every comfort: private bathroom with shower, TV, air conditioning, heating, room service, hair dryer, intercom. Some have balcony and private entrance. Our independent cottage is very convenient for friends or families with children. Two communicating rooms offer a double bed, two single beds and a cradle, bathroom and a kitchenette.
Last, but not least, English and Spanish are spoken!
We welcome our guests and do our best to offer them not only an accommodation but also reliability, helpfulness and information useful to discover our land and its various aspects. We expect them to be respectful towards us, our home and our work. Smoking is not allowed. Thank you for not smoking in our house! We will really appreciate it!
