Studio apartment for rent - great for a small family or good friends traveling to New York. It's a large sunny space, a beautiful view of the skyline and a (sometimes) low-maintenance cat. 5 min to Prospect Park and 20 min to Manhattan.

The space

The apartment is absolutely wonderful! It's an L-shape studio with a separate kitchen and bathroom. One side is a long wall of windows, where you can see over buildings to beautiful Prospect Park! This is one of those rare apartments in New York, that may get too much sunlight. (Don't worry I have shades). The studio is divided into a bedroom area, living room area, and multi-purpose dining area (please note: there is no TV). I have a small typical dining room table, and then a short Japanese-style table that that I use to do work and eat (you sit on the floor on blankets or floor cushions). I'm a yoga instructor, so I have many yoga mats, meditation cushions, props, and ample space to move around and practice. Laundry in the building, and maintenance on call if you have any problems.

This space would be perfect for family members wanting some private time from whoever they're visiting, a couple coming to the city for the holidays, or even a small family (I teach kids yoga classes, so I also have some kids games and stuffed animals). The apartment comfortably fits 2-3. If you're more adventurous (or are traveling with smaller humans) you could fit up to 5 people - I have a double pull out couch, and a queen sized blow-up mattress.

The apartment is part of an apartment complex called Patio Gardens. There's an outer gate and a security booth and then the main door to the building. Linens and towels included, and you'll recieve a card for the laundry - it's in the building.

Interaction with guests

I'll be available via text or email throughout your stay. If you have any other issues, you'll have the contact info for building management and maintenance - they are great at responding.

Other things to note

The windows face the train, and you can hear it when it goes by. I've had mixed reactions from guests about the noise.
I would say I have a medium sensitivity to noise, and it doesn't bother me at all (then again I live here). I'm 7 floors up so I only notice it when I'm watching TV and a particularly loud train goes by. Most people who have stayed here told me the same. That said, if city noise bothers you, this may not be the place for you.

My apartment sometimes includes a cat! Veetzie is a healthy 10 year old, and is extremely friendly. Lately I've been bringing her with me when I travel, reach out if you have a preference.
*Please note: my apartment is not a good fit for you if you have any cat or pet hair allergies. While the apartment is cleaned regularly and before every booking, as any cat lover knows, it is impossible to get rid of every hair.

Super clean, comfortable, relaxing place. Easy access to the room. No issues at all

Had a great time staying here, it was the perfect location for me and my friends to celebrate West Indian Carnival. Everything was clean and the two beds were perfect for a few people to sleep. The only negative I can think of is the proximity of the train, it is pretty loud, but it's Brooklyn and tbh it's totally worth it (buy earplugs).

We had a good time staying at Emily's place; while it happened to be right next to the train line depending on how deep you sleep made a difference. It was noticeable, but once I fell, it did not bother me. If you are allergic to cat hair, be aware; while her place was very clean and you saw no signed of a cat the if you have allergies you might have found it difficult to sleep as cat hair was on the sheets. We also didn't realize that there was no TV. Other than that, she communicated with us very well and it was easy to navigate.

Response from Emily:
I'm glad you had a good time staying at my place! Yes, as my description says I do not own a TV and I am a cat owner so this would not be a good place to stay if you are allergic. I'm glad we were able to PM, though, about what happened re: cat hair! (For those of you reading, there were a few residual hairs on the 2nd bedcover that is stored in the closet. This will happen in a cat-owners home, unfortunately, even when it is clean. It's why I advise against people with pet allergies staying here). I'll send you the stuff you left here asap, Danielle! Best wishes, Em

The apartment is close to the subway, it takes a while though to reach central Manhattan. Getting around in the neighbourhood is easy, there are lovely places to explore even for returning NY travellers. Getting in the apartment was a bit complicated. Finding the keys and access card at the security box was good, but arriving at the apartment we could not open the door also considering Emilys advise. Well, we got getting used to it... The size of the condo is perfect for a couple or friends for a couple of days. There are two super markets around, also a liquid store. 2-3 nice cafes. We did not see any nice restaurants or bars, but that may have been due to holiday. Also bakeries and subway were closed. Unfortunely we did not find the apartment totally clean, especially in the bathroom. The cat was not in the apartment during our stay, there was lots of cat hairs though. Unfortanly also on blankets, what I -despite loving animals- very much disliked just as seeing them in the bathroom. We were pretty much afraid of bugs running around as described in Emilys house manual, but we did not see any. Emily was very nice snd helpful. We did not meet personally, but she was available per sms and phone and mail all the time. She answered all questions very quick, moreover it was very nice to offer keeping our luggage some more hours on our departure day because of very late flight departure. The off to make use of magazines, books, cosmetic stuff, yoga stuff, some things in the kitchen.... is very cool.

I'm glad you guys had a good time, Elena, though I'm so sorry to hear about the dirty bathroom! That is absolutely unacceptable. Would you mind letting me know what part of the bathroom was dirty? It - as well as all the blankets - were supposed to be cleaned before your arrival. If you let me know, I can speak to my cleaning person about it. I hope it did not ruin your stay! Feel free to email me if you'd prefer not to answer here.

Overall had a really awesome time at Emily's studio! The location was absolutely perfect... right next to the big beautiful park, close proximity to the subway (that goes directly to all the touristy spots in Mahattan), and quite a few restaurants and shops on the same street. Being new to the city, it was such a luxury not having to navigate any confusing train transfers. We started each day by grabbing breakfast to eat while sitting in the park and then headed straight to the city. The apartment was really great too! Clean and comfy with plenty of space to splay our luggage out. The noise from the train was a bit of a mixed bag for us. At home, we live a block and a half from train tracks so we didn't think there would be an issue (and Emily was very upfront about the train ahead of time). Having the MTA right below the window, made it hard to take a nap after our early morning flight. But Emily provided tips for minimizing the noise and we never had a problem sleeping through the night when things settled down. The only other issues we had were with getting in and out. We had some trouble with the lock on the door when we arrived. Emily had left a note about it (I guess it was a very recent issue) inside the apartment although I wish we had known about it before trying to get in for the first time. We thought about calling the building maintenance, but that number was inside the apartment too. But we figured it out and Emily was in contact through text as well. And on the way out, the elevator door wouldn't open out into the Lobby. It was working fine but the door seemed jammed on that level. We just rode it back up a floor and used the stairs to walk down the last flight. They were two strange little bookends to an otherwise amazing weekend but neither was a big deal. Overall, a really great time.

Emily's spacious studio in Flatbush was an exceedingly comfortable stay for our large group. Emily was accommodating in all of our requests, which made our trip smooth and without any unforeseen problems. I'd say the pictures on her page don't do the actual space justice!
