About this listing
Privacy, peace, and pristine natural surroundings are what this cozy and clean cabin has to offer. The sun porch is fabulous for sleeping on cool nights, or eating and game playing on the table when rain rolls in. The location just can't be beat!
Enjoy your own private beach with no other houses in sight. Open meadows, trees, river and stream -- this secluded yet accessible cabin has it all. Warm and welcoming three bedroom, 2 full baths, sleeping porch, open kitchen with modern appliances, gas grill, outdoor fire-pit, and fine furnishings throughout.
Listen to the sound of the babbling brook within 50 feet of the house, or explore the 27 acres of private beach access to the Shavers fork river. The house is engulfed in a narrow band of trees and surrounded by meadows and glades for walks (bring long pants and socks to see it all). It is also situated just 1/4 mile upstream from the one-million acre Monongahela National Forest.
The house features natural wood-plank paneling and a well-appointed kitchen, wireless internet, 2 televisions with satellite TV, a Blu-Ray DVD player, and a stereo/home theater system. The kitchen is open to the dining area, perfect for social cooking.
This cozy ground-level home sleeps 8 in beds, plus the living room and sun porch (the latter in warm months only). There is a MBR w/ Queen; BR #2 w/ Queen, BR #3 w/ 2 sets of Twin bunks, Living room w/ Queen pull-out sofa, and Sun Porch w/ queen futon (unheated -- no personal heaters allowed)
For fall or early spring visits the house features electric heat and a wood-stove (a moderate amount of firewood is provided).
Please be aware of the close proximity of the stream to decide if the risk is too great for your toddlers, or other children who might leave the house unsupervised. Our other listing has a larger land buffer between the house and the moving water .
Owners provide a starter quantity of paper products, bathroom soap, and laundry/dish detergent. Personal toiletries are to be provided by Guests.
Cleaning fee covers laundry, dusting, vacuuming, mopping, bathroom/kitchen sanitizing, and garbage removal. Guests are expected to otherwise leave the house in the condition they found it.
We want to ensure that this property is the right fit for you! This is our vacation home that we are sharing – we are not a resort with a maintenance, concierge, and cleaning staff – and our prices reflect that limitation. That said we have put together as many resources as possible to help you plan your trip and enjoy your stay as if it were your own vacation home. We also have tried to stock the house so that you would not want for much upon your arrival.
If you are looking for a remote mountain getaway and are willing to roll with what comes from a country vacation, you will be hard pressed to find a more beautiful spot!
Because the house is surrounded by forests, the creek, and the river, there is plenty of nature to enjoy but also to endure. Mice will occasionally come inside, and although we set hidden traps to keep them from settling in, there is a possibility that you will see them during your stay depending on whether they've found a food source recently (it could be from a prior guest -- not your own doing.) We do, however, check to make sure that the kitchen implements are sanitary at the beginning of your stay.
The bug situation is that we are at a high enough elevation to not have a mosquito problem, but there will be gnats in the field, and moths at night wanting to get into the house. There will also be plenty of dead bugs that wedge themselves between the screens and the windows, and cobwebs sprouting up here and there.
If these aspects of nature are acceptable to you, then you will find a beautiful place of nature in which to relax and enjoy your vacation!

My husband Carl and I got married and moved to Elkins, WV in 2000. I moved from DC, and Carl moved from VA. Each of us had roots in WV and longed to return. We now live in Elkins with our 13 year old son just 20 minutes from the 'All Get Out' riverside vacation rental.
We love the outdoors and enjoy all four exceptional seasons here in the mountains of WV. We get into DC, Pittsburgh, and NYC now and then for our city fix, but love living in this gem of a community of arts and outdoor enthusiasts.
