Interaction with guests

I enjoy greeting guests and giving them tips on great places to see and activities to do. However I gauge my friendliness and attentiveness to guests' wishes, if guests want a more secluded experience that is fine. After an active day in the area, I also recommend great places to eat and drink.

Other things to note

There is a pet fee for a dog depending on size of dog & length of stay. Guests needs to get prior approval for this. This will be included in a offer sent by host.

We ask you to treat our home like your house. When it comes to enjoying your vacation, you choose the times to come and go. We only ask that you enter & exit quietly so you do not disturb other guests. At most there will be 2 other parties in the house.

If a guest brings a pet (Dogs only allowed) there is a limit of one dog and there is an additional nonrefundable fee. It is dependent upon the size of the dog in addition to the length of stay. When other guests are in the home we ask that your dog be kept in your room or on the large deck (with you present on the deck). Some other guests may be allergic or have a fear of dogs. That is why we don't want them in the common room when other guests are present.

Absolutely No Smoking

Please remove shoes within the house

If you use the kitchen please leave it as you found it with all dishes put away and cleaned.
Otherwise there is a $35 cleaning fee.

Nearby is an excellent Dark Sky Park, one of only 10 in the world.

A shed with a lock can be provided for all skis & snowboards. These are not allowed in house.

John's place is great! Tucked away in a subdivision in the woods...the trees give a lot of privacy. Great deck. Nice to have a kitchen to share with all the guests. Plenty of places to sit. Very cozy!

John's house is really well decorated, and is super cozy and comfortable. As a host, John was fast in responding, and saved us from having to put our puppy in a crate. You should stay here if you want to be surrounded by great views and be close to the ski fields

We had an excellent experience at John's home when visiting Mackinac Island in early fall. He was very hospitable and accommodating with our late-check in. He gave us excellent food and destination recommendations around the area and was wonderful to share experiences with.

John was an excellent host. He responded within an hour when we requested a reservation. He also contacted us as we were traveling to our destination to let us know the details of checking in. We stayed in the Aussie Room which had a soft and comfortable bed as well as beautiful artwork from Australia. The common area of the house had a great leather couch to relax on along with an inviting fireplace and big screen TV. There is a large deck with a hammock that overlooks a wooded area. The morning of our departure, John made us the best oatmeal I have ever tasted! He toasted the oatmeal and walnuts and added some yummy flavor to it. He supplied us with Starbucks Coffee, hot chocolate and tea whenever we wanted it. We had free rein of the house during our stay. We stayed for two nights and would recommend it to anyone wanting a little more of a personal touch for their weekend getaway. John was a perfect host and made us feel very welcomed.

John is a very nice and proactive host. His place was very clean and conveniently located about 10 minutes drive from the Main Street in Harbor Springs. We had a very punctual correspondence to set up all the details we needed prior to our arrival. Thank you John for a great stay!

Best BnB stay ever! Perfect host, perfect location, so much to do in the area, and most comfortable bed I have ever slept in. At all times, John is very attentive to the needs of his guests, and so knowledgeable about the area. His home is beautifully decorated, surrounded by trees, and is a fabulous place to relax on the outside deck for starwatching, or in the Great Lakes Great Room, in addition to enjoying a cozy private room. The house is immaculate, and it's easy to understand why John is so proud to share this Travelers Retreat with guests. I do not enjoy staying at hotels, and they are often hard to find in this very popular vacation area. It's an easy drive to anywhere you might want to go. I might have to come back just to walk the Mackinaw Bridge over Labor Day weekend, or to go skiing. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED ANY TIME OF YEAR!
