Villa Marchelina, beautiful stone villa with pool - located in Grubine, in intact piece of Dalmatia, near the town of Imotski (Hinterland). It's completely made of stone and can accommodate 10 people. It has everything that you need for perfect holiday in peace and quiet.

Pool with comfortable pool beds and parasols. Kids friendly with big playground for them (trampoline, swings, slides, kids house, ball, etc), and for adults a wine shop with various sorts of domestic wines and liqueurs.

The space

Villa Marchelina is located in the geographical and historical region of Dalmatia known as "Dalmatian hinterland". Although Dalmatia is established as a tourist flower of the Mediterranean, this part of Dalmatia didn't hit the so-called flood of mass tourism, which brings some negative effects such as excessive accumulation of concreting space or accumulation of accommodation and offer, which has elements of kitsch. Therefore, it is quite logical that the foreign tourists have discovered this intact piece of Dalmatia and it's always pleasant surprise.

Villa Marchelina is placed in this untouched piece of Dalmatia, near the town of Imotski, known for its natural beauty, tangible and intangible cultural heritage and other characteristics. Only 7 kilometers from the house there are two famous lakes, Blue and Red (Red Lake is the deepest lake in Europe and second in the world after Lake Baikal in Russia). Between lakes and villa Marchelina you can find karst fields with river Vrljika and other natural beauties of Mediterranean flora and fauna. This area is characterized by excellent positioning, so that the house is very near the famous tourist destinations like:
- an hour drive to Split, Trogir, Medjugorje, Mostar (border with Bosnia and Herzegovina is only twenty kilometers),
- two hours drive from Dubrovnik and Zadar
- half an hour driving to the Makarska
- to the amazing beaches of Makarska Riviera is a mere twenty minutes (trough the tunnel St. Ilija - mountain of Biokovo)

Transport connections are excellent because the villa leads to the state road, which is only ten kilometers to the south-west connecting the main state highway.

The villa was built thirty years ago and it's entirely, manual and intellectual, work of a family that is woven into it all their effort and knowledge. The owner of the villa is an artist, a painter and sculptor, a lover of stone heritage, who with the help of his wife and children (who have inherited the same artistic line) for years have built a house and edited the corresponding space, incorporating in it all of them self's. Each part of the villa, from its stone casing, outside decorations, its interior decoration, to the environment bears the stamp of the manual labor of the family.

Technically villa is divided into three parts. 1st part is residential area. It makes the main building which has a closed garage and cellar. The ground floor has living space with three bedrooms and two bathrooms, and it's almost entirely decorated with handmade furniture and it has lots of art works and other interesting details (carved stone windows, art nouveau chandeliers older than 120 years, the fireplace of carved stone, etc.). On the ground floor of villa we have family library with more than 3500 books. Located on the 1st floor of main residential area it's a modern two-bedroom apartment with a large terrace overlooking the entire property.

The special part of the villa, the 2nd part of villa, is the small one room house, separated from the main house by the lawn. That small house is built entirely of local stone (including the roof) because the goal was to create a building that will follow the architectural heritage of the "Mediterranean as it once was". In addition to the room with a toilet in the attic, this building has rustic wine cellar with local wines and brandies that are entirely authentic, homemade products.

Entire property have more than 4.000 square meters of landscaped land, with a large parking lot, lawns, vegetable garden, fountain, pond made of natural stone, orchards, a mini golf court, space for table tennis and other sports like darts and table soccer.

Special attention was paid to the pool and the environment around the pool. In addition to the arbor and large space for sunbathing and relaxing on a stone beach around the pool, we have a large grass area by the pool, which is used for recreation and play, adults and children, and includes a tent, a house for the kids, swings, trampoline, slide, goal, etc.

Since the whole villa is trying to fit in with the natural environment and live in harmony with it, our family will always edit living space in order to further illustrate the maximum value of the villa witch is peace that is woven into the very essence of villa Marchelina.

Just peace and idyllic natural surroundings provide a contrast today's busy world, and this is the main guiding principle of the villa Marchelina in its intention to make your holiday a real holiday.

Luca is the owner of the house he and his wife were there to meet us and were very welcoming and friendly. During our stay they were around if we needed them for example they showed us the way to a great local restaurant but they were not at all intrusive. Dino was available via text for any queries and was also very helpful both before we arrived and when we were there. We absolutely loved our holiday. There is such much space and everything you need if provided. My husband enjoyed cooking on the outside stone oven and our grown up family loved the pool and all the space to spread out in. Walking up to the orchard to pick figs and grapes was a bonus. Imotzi is about 10 mins away with good shops and two amazing lakes deep in the ground. Due to a new tunnel through the mountain the beautiful resort of Makarska is only a 30 min drive through stunning scenery. We also visited Split and Mosta. Would definitely recommend this place.

Thank you Dino, Luka, Jelena and whole family for your excellent house! We really enjoyed our time there and kids (ages 13-16) said this was the best house ever. For us, the best thing was the space - plenty of room for everybody and the garden - room to play games and swim in the swimming pool. We also loved the area - quiet and our own privacy away from turistic places. But not too far, we visited Makarska, Split, Omis etc several times during 2 weeks. And we felt really welcomed. Owners of the house, Luka and Jelena helped us in everything we needed. It was great for example to join locals watching EM football and have drinks with Luka and Jelena on the last evening :) Overall, the house was even better than expected, surroundings fit well for our needs, hosts were friendly and more than we could ever wish for. Highly recommend for larger families with kids!!

This is a large 2 apartment villa / complex in Grubine near Imotski. We arrived at night, driving from Split airport, but the villa was not hard to find as our hosts had already sent us a video summarising the journey. Upon arrival (we were late) we were warmly greeted by the host and owner who had bought us some food supplies and prepared a meal for us. The house had also been adapted for children with cotbeds, high chairs and all breakables moved out of reach. The villa itself consists of two apartments which could be run independently. The main apartment is an older family home while the other is a more recent / modern addition. Beside the pool there is also another bedroom and bathroom upstairs and a bedroom / wine cellar, kitchenette and bathroom downstairs. Overall 7 bedrooms. The pool is nice, although our children found it a bit cold in June. The play area was a big hit with the children. Any problems during our stay were quickly dealt with by the host, who also went out of his way to help us find excursions (and locate a specific wine that we wanted to buy). The location is about 1 - 1.5 hours from Split (depending on traffic), 2.5 hours from Dubrovnik and 20-30 minutes from the coast. A car is definitely required as there is not much to see in Grubine, although a bakery and shops / supermarkets are nearby. As was typical for our hosts, they were also able to let us stay a bit later on the day of departure as we were not flying until the evening. Overall: fabulous hosts and nice villa complex but do need a car to get to the more "touristy" areas.
