Beautiful 3 bedroom mountain house 10 min from the beach surrounded by rainforest, with a gorgeous view of the ocean and Whale's Tail formation. House has hot water throughout, Wifi, satellite cable, and washer/dryer! A lot of wildlife visit daily - toucans, monkeys, pizotes, and sometimes you can hear mountain pigs! Trails on site to see wildlife and a waterfall on the property. Secluded, private, very tranquil and serene location.

The space

Our house has a spectacular view and is located in pristine rain forest with a variety of wildlife visiting daily. The house is in the mountains above Bahía Ballena with cool breezes off the Pacific that keep us a little cooler than lower altitudes but there are ceiling fans in every room for hotter days. There are 2 comfortable bedrooms in the main part of the house (all on the second story): one with a king bed, and another with a double bed, both with ample closet space. There is a beautiful bathroom with a spacious shower, large mirror, and generous lighting.
There is an optional 3rd bedroom with its own bathroom and a separate entrance on the first floor that is available for parties of more than 4. If you would like access to the 3rd bedroom and its bathroom for fewer than 5 people just send me a message and I will price it out for you.
The house has full size appliances including a washer and dryer. Kitchen is fully equipped - microwave, toaster, rice maker, blender, coffeemaker - (our oven for baking is not currently working but that should be fixed soon) the stovetop is working great . Indoor dining table for 4, outdoor table for 6 on the balcony porch, smaller table for 2 in the optional 3rd bedroom. Living area and Master bedroom have tv with satellite cable. 2 comfy hammocks to enjoy the serenity outside.
There are a couple of rough trails to explore - one leads to a waterfall on our property - recommended but the trail is narrow and steep in places so be careful and it is at your own risk!
It is very tranquil here and the house is tucked away from neighbors and busy roads. A 4x4 vehicle is required to get up the mountain road but the view and the seclusion is totally worth it. We miss the tranquility and the view (and I miss my toucan friends!) when we are away. You will not be disappointed.

Guest access

Guests with less than 5 guests have access to the entire house on the second floor; guests with 5-6 guests have access to the entire house both floors except our secured storage room on the first floor. All guests have access to the laundry room!

Interaction with guests

We have a trusted maintenance worker and a caretaker/housekeeper that will facilitate your check-in and stay. When we are not at the house, we are in the USA - so we plan to stay out of your hair so you can relax and enjoy your vacation!

Other things to note

A 4x4 vehicle is required to reach the house - we recommend something with a decent motor because the last stretch is quite steep - do not recommend a Jimny or Bego which are popular budget 4x4 rentals. It is worth the $$ to go one level up if you plan to do any 4x4 driving in Costa Rica!

We had a fantastic time during our 5 nights stay at Sara's mountain/jungle house! Sara is a great host and quick to respond to any questions. We initially had picked the region around Uvita because we planned to dive at Cano Island - but we found that the location of the house made it a perfect base for exploring a lot of interesting spots and beaches along the coast. Even with some green season afternoon downpours, we were fine getting up the gravel road to get to the house in a 4x4, and there are amenities/groceries about a 10 mins drive down the hill. The house is as pictured (and better!), very comfortable, nice and breezy, and has everything needed to cook meals after a day of exploring. It is surrounded by nature, with toucan visits at breakfast and howler monkeys in the forest - and, of course, the view is amazing! After spending a few days there, you definitely feel relaxed from being tucked away from it all!

This home was our favorite Airbnb of the trip. Absolutely MAGICAL! "Mountain View," as we referred to this little slice of heaven, was the PERFECT spot for us. Close to the beaches of Uvita, Dominical and Manuel Antonio, but completely remote and you really felt in the wild of the jungle. We awoke to Howler Monkeys and the most insane view of the coast, clouds, sunrise and butterfly filled treetops, ate breakfast with toucans in the trees, and fell asleep to fireflies and the cacophony of the jungle. This house is well appointed with everything you need, and nothing you don't. We felt entirely secure and relaxed, got the best sleep of our trip, cooked up a storm in the kitchen, enjoyed dinner on the porch, and swayed in the hammocks at dusk. Sunsets were lovely, tropical thunderstorms were exciting and waking up to that view was the best! I never wanted to leave, honestly. Sara was accommodating, informative and helpful, and the nearby town conveniently hosts small grocery stores, banks, and a few little restaurants. Obviously, as the listing and other comments attest, you should get a 4x4 for your stay here (if not for your entire visit to Costa Rica). We came with food to cook for dinner / breakfast in case we didn't want to traverse the hill again, and while we found the hill less harrowing than our drive in the rain to/from Monetverde a few days prior(!) we were happy we had food to cook, simply because we wanted to spend time relaxing, and eating on the porch overlooking the jungle and coastline. I recommend coming prepared to want to do the same - dinners on that porch are the best, you get to watch the sunset, plus you don't have to do the drive up in the dark :) So worth taking the short hike to both the waterfalls on the property - lovely! Also worth noting that when we weren't outside on the porch or in the hammocks, this house's airflow was amazing - we opened all the screened windows the whole time, so we had a really bug-free environment inside, while still getting to hear the jungle sounds outside! The ceiling fans kept the air moving, and we were sooo comfortable the whole time. I could go on and on about this airbnb, but I'll end it with: definitely the perfect spot for anyone who wants to have incredible views, feel one with the jungle, be comfortable and relaxed, and be close enough to the beaches to visit them all. Wish we had stayed our entire week here! We absolutely will come back to this spectacular spot. <3

My two friends and I stayed at Sara's place for 2 nights near the end of April. Everything is as pictured with gorgeous views of the surrounding trees and you can see the whale's tail in the far distance. During April, it was raining at night so we mainly stayed indoors after 4pm due to heavy downpours. The road to get up to the house is not possible without a 4x4 so make sure you have one! The house itself was gorgeous, clean, and there was wildlife you can see from the balcony if you look for it! Check-in: We did not meet Sara personally, we met Lucia who showed us around. Her English can be limited, but luckily we understood Spanish. The gate leading up to the house may be locked so Lucia would have to let you in initially. Activities: We decided to go do the waterfall hike next to the property for our first night. It was a short 15-20 min hike. Our second day, we went out to Uvita beach which is not too far by car and went snorkeling. During the nights, we cooked and stayed in due to the rain. From the balcony you can see the lightning and hear the thunder which was pretty cool! Overall, I would highly recommend this place! It is quite romantic and relaxing. I would definitely come back.

The photos and location as described in the profile are very accurate. The house is very charming, clean, well equipped and in a remarkable location. The property is not difficult to get to - a 4x4 is a must. Sara and the property manager, Lucia, were not only prompt in their responses to questions I had, but also very friendly. You will have a unique experience and an incredible view. Highly recommended.

We were so impressed by Sara's beautiful house up on the hills of Uvita with a breathtaking view on the Marino Ballena National Park, even from the main bedroom!! The interiors are very clean, modern and spacious. We booked 4 nights for our personal Easter retreat during Semana Santa to escape civilisation and just to enjoy nature. It was more than we could have wished for. I can only recommend this house to anybody who is looking for an unforgettable stay away from daily life but close enough to get anything you need (supermarket, restaurants, etc.). The kitchen is well equiped incl. oven and microwave. We also appreciated having a washing machine and dryer. To get to the house a 4x4 is a must. We only had a small Suzuki Jimny 4x4 and that was suitable for the ride up. Many thanks to Sara for having us and I will definitvely come back!!
