Places to stay in Abels Bay
Comfortable cabin on farm in the beautiful lower Huon-Channel area. Studio with a double bed, plus sofa bed available for 3rd person.
Our cabin provides a relaxing haven for 2-3 people in a peaceful coastal and rural location. The cabin is a small building close to the main farmhouse. It consists of three rooms: in the larger room are a double bed, wardrobe, sofa bed - available for bookings of 3, small lounge, and dining table, and, in an alcove, the kitchen. In the smaller rooms are the bathroom and separate toilet. All bedding, linen, crockery and utensils are provided. We have it listed as not suitable for children as we have a large farm dam not far from the house; also there is the possibility of snakes in summer. So we do not want children wandering around the farm unsupervised. If you have one or two children you can make a request for a booking; I need to be satisfied that you will supervise your child/ren properly so there is no danger to them. We provide seasonal fruit from the farm, plus breakfast provisions - tea and coffee (plunger and instant), butter and home-made jam. Due to everyone's different requirements and preferences, we no longer provide milk and bread. There are two excellent local supermarkets and a bakery in Cygnet. Wireless internet is available, though not a great connection. Mobile phone coverage is often poor.
We live on a 70 acre farm in a beautiful coastal area of southern Tasmania. Please note: we are not on Bruny Island; the ferry is about a 20 minute drive away. Day trips around the Huon and Channel areas are great from here; or Hobart and surrounds - but further away is a bit too far. There is a lot of native wildlife, such as pademelons (small wallabies) as well as birds. Shops, cafes, post office and other services are in Cygnet, a lovely small town about 9 km away. The lower Huon-Channel area has a lot to experience, including excellent food, lovely scenery and walks, swimming in summer, art galleries, the works! From the farm, it is lovely to go for a walk down to the bay, and around the shore (at low tide); there are also other spectacular bays and beaches not far away. This is a rural area, with no close neighbours except for some cows. There is a small settlement by the bay, about 600 metres from the farm.
  • Quiet, rural setting with a spacious apartment surrounded by bush, gorgeous views & a handful of alpacas. Easy road access to Huonville & Cygnet or a ferry trip to Bruny Island. Our hosts generous with both information & garden veggies. Could easily have stayed longer to explore the area. Thanks Sharon & Scott for a memorable stay.

Cherie was helpful from beginning to end, keeping communication lines open and clear at all times. Walking into the home after a very long drive was truly the best. Super cute personalised touches for guests. We really appreciated everything she did and provided for us and I was especially impressed with the bathroom amenities! We will be back!

WiFi Walk (25 min) or drive (5 min) Cygnet. 50min to Hobart. Breakfast supplied - farm fresh eggs, milk, cereal, home baked sourdough, jam, coffee teas .
If you love retro- this is the place for you. Comfortable with vintage flair, the space is unique and spotlessly clean . Decorated with our finds from near and far. You can lounge about in your freshly laundered dressing gowns or explore the property under the watchful eyes of the sheep or even native hens. Robert and I chose to live here because it's just so beautiful. We really want to share it with as many people as possible. Perfectly located -close to Cygnet but tucked away amidst the hills. Feels miles from anywhere.Super quiet but especially at night. Great for animal spotting and stargazing. The guest accommodation is connected to the main house via a covered breezeway. Through the private entrance there are five areas: 1. The large vintage styled queen sized bedroom has plenty of atmosphere with a lead light window, wooden floors and Persian rugs. The french doors lead onto a wide north facing deck. Wall heaters and electric blankets ensure you will feel cosy. You can listen to vinyls on the lovely old HMV record player or simply relax , enjoying the birdsong. A TV is available, just ask us and we will install for you. 2. The living/dining/kitchen area continues the comfy retro styling. The newly appointed kitchen has a stove top, microwave and fridge. Breakfast supplies- cereals, milk, butter or marg, oil, vinegar, fruit, bread, eggs, tea/coffee/jam/etc. Retro dining table and chairs provide a cosy eating nook. Sit in the armchairs by the french doors or relax on the deck .You can see pasture, forest and the hills in the distance. There are plenty of books in the vintage cupboard by the arm chairs. You might even want to sketch the scene using the art supplies . 3. Bathroom-fully tiled with shower. Shampoo/conditioner/soap/t-paper/tissues provided. Towels/hairdryer/first aid kit in cupboard. Ceiling heat lamp/fan extractor. 4. North facing deck accessible via french doors from bedroom and kitchen. There's a generous sized table with chairs for outdoor dining . Fire pit available in adjacent garden (dependent on seasonal fire permits). 5. The great outdoors! There are seats/ benches dotted around the property. By the dam, there's a picnic table with seats. It's really nice to really feel immersed in the environment. We're in the process of rehabilitating the winter creek beds. This involves removing the blackberries and other weeds, replacing them with native species. This will greatly improve the available habitat for native animals both small and large. There are pademelons, quolls, devils and bandicoots as well as native hens ,masked lapwings and ducks. Note: -No smoking - Rainwater tanks only- water is precious so please use in moderation - Compost bin under sink for fruit/veggies. - Fire blanket(kitchen) and extinguisher(entranceway) - large line for clothes drying - please use laundromat in main street of Cygnet for washing clothes . - Access to oven in main house if required( just let us know in advance and we can arrange) - Picnic rugs/torches/umbrellas /esky/thermos/beach towels located in outdoor cupboard at entrance - Privacy of guests respected. However if you would like to sit and read by our slow combustion fire in main house or share a cuppa feel free to come in. - The walk in to Cygnet is really lovely, especially the length of Olbrichs road ,winding past pastures with cattle, sheep and horses. If you want to walk only one way, let us know in advance and we can help out. Although only a short drive to town, the feeling is one of seclusion , with stunning views and no close neighbours.
Cygnet is a very pretty and and vibrant town in the Huon Valley about 45mins drive from Hobart. Cafes in Cygnet, Franklin, Huonville and Woodbridge are great places to relax and enjoy the slower pace of life down here. Newly opened Port Cygnet Cannery serves fantastic food , sourced locally. Local produce is available in the town centre as well as access to well stocked supermarkets and butchers. Seasonal fruit and vegetables can also be found at roadside stalls throughout the valley. We have a fortnightly market ( Ist and 3rd Sundays)here in Cygnet featuring arts and crafts made by local artists produce sold by local farmers. There are also regular markets nearby towns - we can let you know where they are and when they're on. Usually quiet, Cygnet really buzzes during the Folk Festival each January.Great performers in all he venues around town and plenty of music outdoors in the parks and on the street too. We are happy to help with transport if you don't want to drive , walk or cycle in to town. If you've booked in for a Fat Pig Farm feast we can easily take you there and collect you afterwards- it's only just over the hill from us.Let us know when you're booking and we will make sure we're available. There are beautiful beaches and river front reserves only minutes away from Silver Creek Farm. The Huon river is over the hill and Drip Beach in Lymington is so peaceful. Burton's Reserve on the waterfront at Cygnet is a great spot for sitting and watching the birds then taking a gentle stroll on the well maintained path around the bay to the yacht club. Randalls Bay and Mickey's Beach are are short drive away and well worth a visit. There are walking tracks there, both beachside and up through pasture . The view from the top of the hill is really lovely. Perhaps you would prefer to spend most of your time here on the farm soaking up the atmosphere. If you want to feed our sheep they'll be so happy- they love being hand fed! Your visit might even coincide with a film screening at the Franklin Palais -feel like a local paying your $5 entry fee ,sitting up the back enjoying the movie in the beautifully maintained old venue.
  • We highly recommend Fiona and Richard place to any and every one. What an amazing place. We loved the decor, very well equipped kitchen and bathroom, amazingly clean and really comfortable. So many homely touches with the added bonus of fresh baked bread, and biscuits. Both Fiona and Richard were welcoming and friendly, nothing was a bother. The chickens were also friendly. Location was very convenient for us going to bruney island. We loved our stay and again thankyou. 10 out of 10 for value, comfort and friendliness. Do not hesitate to stay here as we will again.

    Dale2020-02-27T00:00:00Z
  • Robert and Fiona’s little retro hideaway was perfect to get away from it all yet so close to the town of Cygnet which surprised us with plenty of fun places to shop and eat. Our hosts went to a lot of trouble to ensure we had all we needed and were helpful, thoughtful and discreet. We’d highly recommend their accommodation for anybody wanting a rural setting with no distractions other than the chickens and the abundant wildlife. Fantastic little outlook overlooking a pretty garden and a sunny deck to sit out on and enjoy a quiet drink. Thank you Robert and Fiona!

    Alison2020-03-07T00:00:00Z
  • What a gem of a find! We absolutely loved Ruth and Phillip’s cottage. We have stayed in many Airbnb’s and we think this place ranks pretty high on our list. The cottage is clean, cosy (with a slow combustion wood heater) and has everything you could want for a luxurious stay. The designs elements are thoughtful and smart. The location is perfect for those wishing to explore the Huon Valley and Bruny Island (with a car). Ruth and Phillip were warm and friendly hosts. Thank you so much for sharing your little piece of paradise with us!

    Jane2020-03-03T00:00:00Z
  • I particularly appreciated the Retreat's idyllic location. The view from each window was to tree-lined hills and, from the kitchen window, to an old apple tree. Ruth provided excellent information on local wildlife and short walks. The Retreat itself is beautifully presented, light-filled, spacious and warm. Highly recommended if you're after a place to rest and re-energise or to work in tranquillity.

    Sonja2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • Ruth and Phillip's place is an absolute dream. The location is great, set in the hills of the Huon Valley, and a short drive to the small town of Cygnet. It is also only a 20 minute drive to the Bruny Island Ferry port. My partner and I were looking for a place to getaway and relax, and this place certainly delivered. The house itself is beautifully designed, extremely comfortable, with all the amenities you could possibly need. We spent the evenings cooking on the outdoor fire, listening to the birds and looking out for passing Pademelons and once it got dark, snuggled up by the indoor fire. I can't recommend this place enough. We will definitely be returning for another relaxing getaway!

    Alice2020-02-19T00:00:00Z

A world away from neighbours and traffic but centrally located and ideally situated for exploring Bruny Island
The studio apartment is a private separate dwelling, set away from the main house boasting magnificent views of the D'entrecasteaux channel, Satellite Island and the Hartz mountains in the distance. The space is bright and cosy, furnished with a relaxed coastal theme. There is a well equipped kitchen with a fridge, cooktop, microwave oven and BBQ on the deck, along with all the cooking utensils you may need. The kitchen is stocked with some basics you are welcome to use. We offer a comfortable queen size bed with quality linen for your comfort. There is a wood heater to keep you warm and cosy on those cooler evenings.
The central location of ‘Seabirds’ allows you to explore Bruny Island’s main attractions and sample local produce with the Winery, Bruny Island Cheese company, Get Shucked Oysters, and Chocolate Factory, all within a short drive. It is within close distance to Alonnah beach, the local hotel and other services. ‘Seabirds’ is a waterfront property with full access to our private coastline for swimming, snorkelling and exploring. Of an evening wallabies graze in abundance unperturbed by human presence. Possums, quolls and echidnas are also frequently seen. For the bird lover there is opportunity to see endemic species. Sea eagles and wedge tailed eagles nest along this coastline and are often seen soaring high above. Bruny Island offers some great walks through national parks and along stunning pristine beaches. The surf beach at Cloudy Bay is 15 minutes drive. Or maybe you prefer to just relax, put your feet up and enjoy the natural surroundings and stunning island views.
  • Really enjoyed our stay, very relaxing and comfy! We had a beautiful sunset picnic by the water off a private track on the property. And Wendy left us some produce from the property which was a lovely touch.

    Stephanie2020-03-15T00:00:00Z
  • Such a stylish and peaceful cabin in the most wonderful location overlooking the calm waters of Alonnah across to Satellite Island. We loved the space with so many special touches and all the amenities to allow you to just relax and take in the scenery. The bread basket with home grown produce was fantastic and everything was delicious. The property is very well located with the waters edge and its rocky coast full of tidal pools just a stones throw away and such a pleasure to explore. I would really recommend Seabirds for anyone looking to enjoy the peace and tranquility of Bruny Island in an amazingly well catered space with the most delightful and welcoming host.

We enjoyed the stunning panoramic view from the deck of the Channel and Satellite Island. With quality furnishings, kitchen equipment, and a comfy bed also, we had a perfect stay. Thank you, Wendy and Malcom.

  • We've had the pleasure of staying at lots of Airbnbs over the years, but this might just be my favorite! Lots of lovely little details that made the trip extra special! The accomodation is a beautiful space, with amazing views in the perfect location on Bruny. It feels as though you are tucked into the end of the world on this property. It's located only a few minutes from the only place open past 5pm for dinner (which is worth noting), Hotel Bruny. The food at the pub is great, and we had intended eating butters button nights, but the produce available on the island, and the accomodation were so lovely we ended up cooking-in one night instead (with some lovely surplus supply generously shared from Wendy's garden). The space it's self was light, bright and stylishly put together. The linen sheets were heavenly to sleep on! The property offers lovely walks down to the cove, a gorgeous a private beach where dolphins can be seen swimming past. Lots of beautiful wildlife to greet you (literally on your doorstep) on your stay too. Wendy and Malcolm were great hosts, communication was quick and easy. They even checked in to see if we needed extra blankets. If you want a private, inviting space and relaxing time on Bruny where you can simply soak it all in, look no further.

  • Peaceful cottage for two with wonderful view of the bay and bush surrounds that bring in the birds. Good amount of inclusions to assist your stay, washing machine with detergent, oil, salt and pepper plus many more. Clean and spacious open design. Good value for money. Lovely hosts who have put a lot of work into this property to share with guests. Don't forget to walk the creek path they made, it's lovely.

  • Great location on the water & away from it all. Beautifully equipped cabin in all areas. Great view from the place & could be warm & cosy because of the log fire on a cold day.

  • You might find the pictures on AirBnB pretty, but wait till you get there. Driving up the Driveway takes you into a magical little world. Take in the beautiful picturesque area and the calming cosy atmosphere of the cottage. You can feel that the place is taken care of in the most loving way and the cottage is so thoughtfully furnished. Realene and Michael are doing such a great hosting job and we're welcoming us in the most warm and kind way. It is a real treat to stay at their green little cottage.

  • Would highly recommend Jemma’s drift away camp! Had the most perfect first trip away with our 6 month old baby and Jemma welcomed our two dogs as well! Excellent for those with little ones and/or fur babies. Especially loved the outdoor spa with the most amazing view! What a lovely space Jemma has created.

  • This was an amazing stay. Jemma was extremely accommodating and very quick to reply to our questions at booking. We really appreciated the thought that had gone in to setting up the space from the eco approach, the amazing bath with a view and local produce to sample. Thanks Jemma for creating such a wonderful Airbnb experience.

    Ellen2020-02-21T00:00:00Z
  • Easily the best accomodation I’ve ever booked on Airbnb. Stayed for two nights and enjoyed a bath under the stars, salmon cooked over the campfire and a magical view down to the Huon River. The cottage is super clean, with everything you could possible want for cooking your own meals and gorgeous touches from host Jemma. On our first night she had left fresh eggs, butter and salmon in the fridge and dropped off some delicious local bread to boot. She was incredibly kind and full of great recommendations for the area. If I could give it 6 stars I would. Will be coming back ASAP.

    Lucy2020-02-19T00:00:00Z
  • Such a great little cabin. Comfortable and clean with an amazing view. Will definitely be back

  • Due to unexpected illness I was unable to travel and my parents traveled to Jemma’s place instead. Jemma was very easy and quick to communicate with. House exactly as described. Beautiful setting (I got lots of photos!). Some tasty local treats in the fridge was a lovely touch. My parents had the best weekend and would definitely recommend staying at Jemma’s home.

This eco friendly home is located in the quiet waterside village of Deep Bay just 8km from the artisanal township of Cygnet. Incredible views, friendly locals, even a Bikram yoga studio at the end of the street, and just 1 hr away from Hobarts Salamanca Market and MONA
Solar passive design means the house stays warm in winter and cool in summer. There is a wood burning stove to make the place extra cosy on cool days or nights. The solar hot water system supplies the hot water - and there is a booster if for any reason the sun don't shine. There are large decks at front and rear of house providing shelter or sun depending on whim. Deck chairs and hamoc available too! The house is "shabby chic" with both a retro and modern style. I like recycling so there are many pre-loved items as well as new and beautiful things. Please note, it is my home, so my personal belongings remain in the space when I am gone, but they are put away in cupboards. There is plenty of space for your things too.
The natives are friendly, there is boat ramp and jetty at the bottom of the road and don't forget the Bikram yoga centre at the end of the road that does 2 yoga sessions every day except Sat and Sun where just the one. Good coffee and food can be found in Cygnet as well as art galleries, chemists, independent supermarkets and banks.
  • Just great! Communication, spotless, very comfortable and a lovely home to watch the wonderful Tasmanian ever changing light with yachts bobbing in the water across the road . We will hopefully come back one day

A simple, earthy cabin built from reclaimed timbers. An intimate retreat to call home during your exploration of Bruny Island. Beachcomb for art supplies, forage in the herb gardens for breakfast and reconnect with mother nature. A warm simple and inviting space where natural living meets beauty.if you are looking for a more luxe option have a look at our other accommodation on the property called the hide. Follow us on Instagram @sheepwashbay
The cabin has just had a complete makeover but retains its charm with its original hand dropped bush poles and unique shape. A cosy retreat for a couple with king sized bed, wood heater, indoor kitchenette with outdoor cooking facilities(double gas burners, fridge, saucepans, wok, frypan, kettle etc),bath and good flow hot shower in the one open space room. A set of king billy french doors open onto a deck with expansive views across the channel to the southern ranges (which are capped with snow in winter). The cabin is next to our family home and the shed where John bakes , but has privacy screening and blinds so you can relax fully in this private setting. We are the only people within a few km of you! Our property is fully off the grid - our power comes from solar and wind sources. If the weather has been dull and calm for two days you may hear the gentle strum of the diesel generator bringing our batteries back into safety. Staying here is an experience in eco living. Your lights are 12 volts, but 240 v power points are in the room(so yes mobiles can be charged). Your hot water is instant gas with an inline pump bringing fresh rain water to you to bathe in and drink. Heating is via a wood-burning fireplace. It will be set and ready to stick a match in , with plenty of wood available in your space. The toilet is separate to the cabin, a short stroll up a pathway to a clean composting toilet. We have a varied population of wildlife for visitors to enjoy. In the evenings with a spotlight you can see wallabies, possums and quolls. In the day time twitchers will be delighted with the population of sea eagles, wedgetail eagles, swift parrots and the peppermint forests make great habitat for the 40 spotted pardalote. On the foreshore you can find all manner of crabs and sea birds and other critters, and of course under the water there are a fabulous variety of fish and shell fish, seahorses and gardens of seaweeds to delight.
There are so many off the grid experiences awaiting you. Its your choice!! Things you might like to do include: -explore Bruny Island-were in the middle - a great place to base yourself!! -enjoy local foodie experiences -engage in adventures on the land and sea (like snorkelling, kayaking,beach/jetty fishing, bush walking, boat tours, fishing charters) -fitness experiences- run, hike, swim, bike -go wildlife spotting or twitching -just relax!go on stay for a week!!
  • If you want a dreamy retreat from the problems of the world I would highly recommend this warm and cosy cabin tucked into the hills of Alonnah overlooking the water. Like stepping back into a simpler time for complete rest and relaxation.

  • We had a very nice stay. A lovely little spot with million dollar views. Mikey (the dog) is an added bonus.

    Nardia2020-03-13T00:00:00Z
  • The property was gorgeous, private and well thought out. Hospitality is wonderful, sourdough just as great. Worth the off grid getaway!

    Marsha2020-03-12T00:00:00Z
  • Absolutely beautiful accommodation in a private little part of the island. Loved being spoilt with fresh sourdough, eggs and veggies from the garden. Had a picnic on the private beach among the driftwood and watched the sun go down with a cosy fire. Highly recommend to others. Total bliss.

    Lyn2020-03-11T00:00:00Z
  • We had such a lovely time! your place was so special and we loved the extra touches (warm sourdough each morning). You live in a beautiful part of the world and loved being able to experience it for ourselves! also Mikey was a most welcome highlight for us :) thank you so much xx

    Siobhan2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • The space was beautiful- we loved exploring the beach and the veggie patch! Our hosts were great with communication and even hand delivered us some fresh bread which they left at our little cabin. Beautiful place to stay and explore Bruny.

    Maddy2020-03-06T00:00:00Z
  • STAY HERE. SERIOUSLY! Stop scrolling and book the shack! The space that J & J have created here is beautiful, cosy and luxe, all without breaking your bank. Our only regret about booking the shack is that we didn’t book another night... 2 nights is not long enough to soak up Bruny, or to enjoy the best bed you’ll ever sleep in. A bonus of staying here: John is the Bruny Baker and you get fresh baked warm sourdough for bread. Pick yourself up a jam from Bruny Island Berry Farm or Cheese & Co and you’re set! 😍 Thank you so much for having us J & J, we’ll be back one day!

    Ashleigh2020-03-04T00:00:00Z
  • Sheepwash Bay is a secluded gem of a place that makes you want to give up city life and hitch a shack on paddock somewhere. The experience John and jenene have designed is so authentic and special. With little touches like fresh bread in the morning, access to their veggie garden and eggs to morning hugs from their dog Mikey. The shack is beautifully designed, very clean, warm and well equipped. This is the perfect off the grid weekend away, could not recommend more.

  • Shanley’s is as probably as close as you can get to “heaven on earth”... a magical place surrounded by amazing nature, beautifully and cozy appointed with every imaginable amenity despite its remoteness. Access driveway well marked and clear instructions provided by Anne. Will never forget the warmth and sound of wood in the fireplace at dusk overlooking the rolling hills. A sight to behold... definitely hope to return one day!

  • Beate's place is magical - it is one of the very best AirBnB places I ever stayed in! The apartment has everything you need and more. We felt very comfortable and truly enjoyed our stay - we would love to come back one day. The apartment is very cozy, peaceful and quiet - the perfect place to relax and unwind while also being in the perfect location to explore Tasmania's beautiful South. Thank you so much for the great hospitality and for the very delicious cakes Beate!

  • Beautiful house with beautiful hosts like Beate. She explained the things so well and took care of us. Loved the little treats and special care of me being on a diet. House was lovely and we loved every moment spend there. Would highly recommend to anyone thinking to plan a trip to cygnet as it’s just 5 mins drive to the main town and 20 mins to Huonville. We loved the jacuzzi bath and all the details provided for places around for things to do. Very satisfied. Thanks again for making it a beautiful experience and we would like to come back again sometime.

  • Beate and Paul were excellent hosts and their apartment had all the home comforts plus special bonus of Bea's mother's home made pastries. We appreciated the privacy of having our own apartment. The decor is charming and the view lovely.

    Christine2017-04-05T00:00:00Z
  • We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The apartment was spacious and well appointed and as we stayed for a week we appreciated having the room to spread out and make ourselves at home. Beate was a lovely host and we much appreciated the home baked treats each afternoon. It was well located being just a couple of minutes outside of Cygnet and was a good base to explore the area.

    Julia2016-10-29T00:00:00Z
  • What a wonderful, warm, tranquil place! Thank you Beate and Paul for opening your home to us we enjoyed every moment – from the delicious florentines and yummy berry meringue to the glorious king size bed and waking up to the morning mist across the water. The breakfast was plentiful and nutritious and set us up for the days of exploring. Green Gables comes highly recommended.

Great location, 5 minute drive to winery, 500m to Bruny hotel and a 500m walk to a 3km trail along the foreshore. A perfect place to relax and unwind. Best suited to younger guests There is going to be a new house built next door, starting in a month or so, which could impact the piece and quiet.
The holiday home offers one beautiful bedroom, with a bath overlooking the stunning views. The room also has an ensuite. The living area has a flat screen TV and is open to the dining area. • Amazing! Wish we could have stayed longer. Absolutely beautiful house in a stunning location. Perfect for a relaxed couple escape

    Corey2020-03-12T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely house and fantastic for a couple’s getaway as advertised. The bath in the bedroom is a romantic touch. All amenities were modern and of good quality. Walking distance to the Bruny pub (about 10-15min), but be careful walking there and back at night as there are not clear designated footpaths and you walk very close to the road. Lovely stay and would recommend to couples looking for a break away.

  • It was a pleasure to stay at Todd's house in Alonnah, Bruny Island. It's the perfect location to explore the island from, a super cosy house, and there are lots of thoughtful touches. Truly perfect for a couples weekend away as suggested! Thanks for having us.

Quiet location at Lunawanna with great views over Daniels Bay and D'Entrecasteaux Channel. Close to the best walking tracks and the best bird watching on Bruny, we have all the endemic species close by plus Inala! Also nearby you will find - The Lighthouse, Cemetery Beach, Cloudy Bay, Winery/Bar and Grill, Inala Wildlife Sanctuary and Hotel Bruny (meals 7 days). Adventure Bay is just 20 minutes drive (if you have the time do the Bruny Island Cruise boat trip - not to be missed!)
Private bedsit studio for one or two. Studio bed (see photos) is a very comfortable double. We can also provide a quality portable cot and a high chair for a baby (up to 12 months). Studio is fully insulated with double glazing, heating and ceiling fan so is warm in winter and cool in summer. During your stay you will also have private access to the deck and BBQ area between our house and the studio for outdoor relaxing with great views over Daniels Bay.
Close to Bruny Island Lighthouse and National Park. World renowned Inala wildlife sanctuary is only 3kms. from us. Quality dining is also near by at Bruny Island Hotel and Bruny Island Winery. Things to do close by include beach and jetty fishing, bushwalking, bird and wildlife spotting, beach walking and swimming or just relaxing and enjoying the view. If you have the time we highly recommend the award winning boat trip run by Bruny Island Cruises. Fishing Charters are also available and scenic flights over Bruny can be arranged.
  • We have stayed in Air Bnb’s all over the world but would rate Estelle’s place as one of our favourites. Her attention to detail was amazing. From home baked bread and cookies to the current edition of my favourite magazine “Country Style”, we were so happy in this space. Birds are another passion of ours and so we appreciated the beautiful books and decor featuring Tasmanian species to go along with the real life visitors outside. The location of Estelle’s place made it easy to access the best spots on Bruny Island, including the wildly adventurous Wilderness Cruise from Adventure Bay and the lighthouse. Wonderful memories to cherish.

    Julie2020-03-07T00:00:00Z
  • We very much enjoyed our little sojourn at Estelle’s place. It is a warm, comfy and quiet retreat. Estelle left lots of goodies for us - fresh sourdough bread, fudge, lovely jams and teas and coffee. There is a lovely outdoor space for relaxing with northern views to the water. We recommend Estelle’s place to stay if you are spending a few days on Bruny.

  • Nice self-contained unit with private bathroom. Wide selection of breakfast and tea options. Great view of the coast/mountains. Cute garden and outdoor areas. Lovely bird themed bedroom- would recommend visiting!

    Peaceful , tranquil location
The Retreat at Randalls offers a totally private, absolute waterfront experience overlooking stunning Randalls Bay, a short drive from Cygnet and 55 minutes from Hobart. Featuring panoramic views of the pristine beach across to Garden Island, and a sheltered 3,500 square metre garden area with abundant wildlife, walking tracks and play equipment for the kids to explore, the opportunity exists for families or couples to rest and relax. So too does it provide the perfect opportunity to access the numerous tourist sites along the Huon Valley Trail, Bruny Island, and beyond. The house itself offers comfortable accommodation with a 70s retro beach house feel. Expect carpet in the kitchen, mismatched plates and straightforward bathroom facilities - but also expect every comfortable facility you need. It is set on 3 levels, the lower containing bunk accommodation for two, the middle the kitchen/meals/lounge area, a ‘snug’ and the two main bedrooms, and the upper story providing further sleeping facilities and a new 60 square metre deck. The master bedroom (complete with en-suite) and the communal living areas offer uninterrupted views across the D’Entrecasteaux Channel to the Hartz Mountains. The deck adds further to the panoramic experience, with a 360 degree outlook encompassing the beach across to Garden Island in one direction, and a view of the private gardens and the mountain of the Echo Sugarloaf reserve from behind. Facilities include a split system heating/cooling and a wood burning heater, digital television/radio/internet, a scenic BBQ area (gas and wood fired) , a well-equipped kitchen with dishwasher and microwave oven, a washing machine and clothes dryer, abundant reading material, board games, puzzles etc. All linen and towels (except beach towels) are supplied. The grounds, intersected by a winding 100 metre long horseshoe driveway with two small bridges, provide an added source of enjoyment, especially for children. Scattered across the property via a number of tracks can be found a 10 foot trampoline, a slide with adjoining climbing frame, and a play area with suspended tyre, trapeze and conventional swing. Along the coast side a gate opens out to a path leading to the safe, secluded beach. Both Randalls Bay, and the adjoining Mickey’s Beach (accessed by a scenic walking track nearby) are, we believe, simply the best beaches in the Huon region, if not beyond. Certainly, they are one of the very few stretches of sandy shoreline to have such an enclosed, sheltered position, surrounded by natural bush. Other attractions include: • kayaking, fishing, coastal walks, swimming, rock-pooling, boating • Cygnet (a pleasant ‘artistic’ town with a variety of quality cafes and galleries) • Hartzview and Home Hill wineries • Bruny Island • Grandvewe Cheesery • Tahune Airwalk • Hastings caves and Thermal Springs • Hartz Mountains • Peppermint Bay bistro and fine dining • Huonville jetboats ... to name but a few. A more comprehensive guide, complete with explanatory brochures and our own recommendations, can be found upon arrival.
    Tranquil Bush environment
  • Beautiful house. Lots of room. The deck has a wonderful view. We would gladly stay here again and highly recommend it.

    June2020-03-06T00:00:00Z
  • This place is just simply amazing. The location to the beach and views of the bay meant you can hear the waves crashing of a night. The kids absolutely adored the garden with the paths and hidden activities. It is definitely a place you can just relax and unwind.

    Carolynne2020-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • We spent 4 days with our 2 boys here. The house is very convenient and well designed, not too small, not too big! Fully equipped, comfortable, view on the sea, amazing garden on where possums hide in the night! It is a pity we could not stay longer!

    Elodie2020-02-14T00:00:00Z
  • Thank you Jill, we loved staying at your place. The views were amazing and having a fire place ready to light when we arrived was great. The place was really well stocked with everything that we needed.

    Janelle2020-02-10T00:00:00Z
  • You drive in to your own little wonderland! This is the perfect place for kids to explore and play giving some much needed relaxation on the deck for mum and dad after a long day of sight seeing. Our highlight was our visit from a rare micro bat 🦇. The kids spent hours paddling the kayaks in Randalls bay and exploring the rock pools. We will definitely be back again and would highly recommend for kids. Plenty of towels and linen also along with lots of other things to make for a comfortable getaway.

  • We loved staying at Kim's. The cottage was so comfortable and well set up with amazing views. Great place to relax and experience our Australian wildlife

    Belinda2020-02-13T00:00:00Z
  • This place will blow you away! It’s your accommodation and destination wrapped up in one. Great cottage, great location, great view. Our hostess Kim was very helpful and incredibly accommodating. We spent both nights with cute little wallabies and pademelons surrounding our cottage and we enjoyed rainforest walks on the property.. short drive to Bruny Island Ferry and beautiful Cygnet/Huon Valley. Extremely special!

    Henry2020-02-05T00:00:00Z
  • Wonderful small home beautifully appointed with loads of thoughtful touches and freebies ( Kim’s home made brownies, some food basics etc). Kevin was really helpful and even posted our forgotten water bottle back home to Sydney. Seeing the wildlife surround the place at night was great and no light pollution made the night sky mind blowing

    Howard2020-02-02T00:00:00Z
  • Kim and Kev’s cottage is stunning. Super well appointed with luxury at every turn. Everything has been thought of so you can have a cosy and relaxing experience. Kim was great with her communication and introduced us to her wildlife family (the wallabies) that drop by around dusk each day. They are friendly enough to feed from your hands. Note that the wallabies and Pademelons do have a tendency to enjoy the balcony and porch as much as you will, so you might hear a few noises during the evening as they hop from one side to the other. That however is all part of the charm of this beautiful bush setting. With signposted walks on the property and food & drink provisions for a hearty breakfast provided, it was tempting to just stay in and forget about visiting the surrounding area. Next time I think we will book an extra couple of days.

    Brendan2020-01-27T00:00:00Z
  • Misty Ridge is a peaceful cottage perched high up on the hill with views over the channel to Bruny Island. We stayed for 5 nights and recharged ourselves in the natural surroundings. The location could not be better for us, so peaceful and Kim went above and beyond with all her tasty cottage supplies :) Its great base to explore the Huon Valley.. We can not recommend highly enough!!!!

The view is incredible and there was so much love put into decorating the place and making us feel at home. Kim and Kevin are amazing hosts and provided helpful tips as well as delicious brownies. We would always come back!

Newly renovated, private, self contained guest suite on the ground level of our waterfront two storey house. You will have access to the area downstairs with your own bathroom, bedroom, open plan lounge/dining area with kitchenette and an outdoor deck. The outlook from your accommodation is to Charlotte Cove with stunning views across the water to Garden Island, Randalls Bay and Sugarloaf Mountain. Charlotte Cove is 17km from Cygnet which is, without a doubt, the best small town in Tasmania.
The ground level area of our house is a self contained space and you will have your own bathroom, bedroom, open plan lounge/dining/kitchen area and an outdoor deck. The front room has a lovely view across a deck to the boats and water of Charlotte Cove. This room is open plan with a lounge, dining area and a kitchenette. There is a fridge with freezer, kettle, toaster, microwave and single induction cooktop. All crockery, cutlery and cooking implements are provided. There are no shops in Charlotte Cove so you may need to bring supplies. I will provide a simple continental breakfast including homemade granola, yogurt, fruit, tea, coffee, bread and jams. The bedroom has a queen sized bed, a storage drawer under the bed and shelves with space for hanging your clothes. I admit it is a small room but it is light and bright and you will want to be in the front room most of the time anyway just looking at the view! Your bathroom has been newly renovated and towels and toiletries are provided for your use. There is a heated towel rail and a small heater that can be used in the bathroom. The deck on the lower level is for your use. There is a cafe style table and chairs and a hammock is also available. Spend your time here looking out at the waters of Charlotte Cove and the views down the river to Garden Island and Randalls Bay.
Charlotte Cove is a tiny settlement with a mix of holiday homes and permanent residences. It is located on a small peninsula at the mouth of the Huon River where it opens into the D'Entrecasteaux Channel. Nearby islands include Bruny Island, Huon Island and Garden Island. Boating and kayaking are popular here and there is a boat ramp and jetty in front of the house. There is a short walk from the house that takes you to the end of the peninsula where you have expansive views across the river to the Hartz Mountains and Adamsons Peak. A slightly longer walk (10 minutes) along a bush track by the water takes you to the quiet beach at Verona Sands. Head off in any direction for scenic drives by the water. It is a short drive to the charming town of Cygnet (17km - 15 to 20 minutes) where you will find the best cafes, bakeries, shops and galleries, plus all the usual small town services. In the other direction, head towards Kettering (28km - 25 to 30 minutes) where you will find the ferry to Bruny Island.
  • Very private and relaxing place. Great walk to the beach at Verona Sands

  • We had a lovely time at Sandra’s place. It was so relaxing and the view from the deck was beautiful. Sandra had generously provided us with breakfast, including bread and fruit! We truly enjoyed our one night getaway!

    Catherine2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • Cozy ground floor apartment equipped with washer dryer and electric blankets. Wonderful view from the sofa and terrace on the bay, all sorts of high-quality delicacies in the fridge .. However, only a hotplate plus micro and toaster in the kitchen. Comfortable bed, mosquito screens in front of the windows. Very personable, unobtrusive hosts!

    Horst2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • What an idyllic place to relax and unwind. There is so much to do in the surrounding areas but with a stunning view, cosy space and plenty of books, magazines and games, you may not get out the door!

    Edward2020-01-20T00:00:00Z
  • Sandra was a great host! We wanted a quiet retreat, and that's what we got - and more. Sandra was very welcoming but never intrusive. The view of the Cove from the front room is just beautiful and relaxing - ever changing. There were many unexpected extra touches - chocolates in the bedroom, sourdough bread, yoghurt and home made jams, and some local fruit. They offered us the use of canoes and shared with us about looking out for seahorses in the Cove, and It was heart-warming watching her feed the orphan potteroos. We had a lovely time exploring the area and just relaxing. We would love to come back again!

    Marcia2020-01-16T00:00:00Z
  • Sandra's place, the ground floor of her home, was marvellous. Beautiful views onto Charlotte Cove. The most wonderful breakfast offerings, including fresh fruit (in season), a sourdough bread, and lovely jams, and so on. Private. All the facilities you might need. All in all, a lovely stay.

    Thomas2020-02-20T00:00:00Z
  • We have stayed at many AirBNBs around Australia and without Cindy and Craig’s is the best we’ve ever stayed at. Stunning views, a beautifully designed space, peace and privacy, and fully sustainable - this has it all. Cindy has left so many thoughtful touches - chocolates in our pillows, flowers, homemade cupcakes, freshly home-baked bread and eggs from the chooks among them. Everything was sparkling clean and everything you could want it supplied - books, games, a great selection of DVDs, fluffy towels, a fully stocked pantry - even hand-knitted slippers! Lying in the big comfy bed looking out the mountains with a mug of fresh hot coffee in hand - it doesn’t get better. Thank you Cindy and Craig.

    Joanna2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • Cindy and Craig are exceptional hosts and Yellow Door is a very special treat. We loved the location, the peace and the hospitality. The invitation to pick a few veggies from the garden for our dinner made our day. We loved it.

  • Wow. What a wonderful weekend at this hidden gem! Birte and Brad have thought of everything! So many thoughtful and welcoming touches throughout this gorgeous property..... and the house oozes simplicity, style and a wonderful sense of well-being. From the decadently oversized, beautifully dressed and ridiculously comfortable beds to the serenity of a sparkling hot tub with a lovely view. Delicious gourmet pantry treats and vino definitely hit the spot too. Enjoy drinks on the deck or cosy up on the sofa with a good book. Cygnet Retreat is the icing on the cake for this very special corner of Tassie. Will definitely be back. Thanks Birte and Brad for being such thoughtful hosts.

    Greg2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • A wonderful stay here! We had a group of 5 and indulged in a great dinner, time to relax in the jacuzzi and very comfortable beds! Highly recommend

    Clair2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • A beautiful home with wonderful hosts. Very private with lots of special touches. Amazing soaps, local produce treats and comfy warm beds. Having the spa to sooth our muscles after bush walks was great. Thank you Birte and Brad, can’t wait to come back.

    Ben2020-01-21T00:00:00Z
  • This beautiful house proved to be a perfect venue for our family gathering of both older and younger adults. The stunning views, the well-planned house and the thoughtful facilities (including the hot tub), all contributed to a very enjoyable stay.

    Rosemary2020-01-12T00:00:00Z
  • This property is absolutely beautiful and the hosts are wonderful at making sure your stay is amazing. We had such a wonderful time our children didn’t want to leave. Will 100% book again & highly recommended.

    Crystal2020-01-09T00:00:00Z
  • Absolutely fantastic place. Five stars in every way.

    Michael2020-01-05T00:00:00Z
  • A cut above - you won’t regret this. A fantastic, modern house in the cute village of Cygnet. The Cygnet Retreat was more than enough for our party of 6 (mum, dad, 2yo toddler, grand mother, grand dad and uncle). The house’s modern design is stunning and it’s positioned in a way to capture sweeping views of the town and surrounding hills. The house’s kitchen has everything you could possibly need, with a well-stocked pantry and top-of-the-line appliances. Communicating with Birte and Brad was easy and they were very helpful in providing recommendations about the local area. They even put together a very thoughtful welcome pack of local provisions (you’ll have to visit to see) which took the stress out of doing a large shopping trip prior to arriving. We used the Retreat as a base to visit Bruny Island and to explore the local farms (Bloobs are the best blueberries I’ve ever eaten) and wineries. If we ever find ourselves in this part of the world again I would definitely stay at Cygnet Retreat. Other highlights: Hot tub Espresso machine Toddler items (portacot, high chair, duplo) Amazing showers and large bath Super comfortable large beds Plenty of board games, cards and books

    Rob2020-01-02T00:00:00Z
  • Birte and Brad have done such an amazing job with their Airbnb - couldn't have asked for a more perfect home, view, amenities and delicious wine and snacks. The floor to ceiling views were breathtaking and the house is brand new with great design touches - all the details were very thoughtful and made for comfort. We didn't get a chance to use the hot tub but that was also a big perk of this place along with the locally produced toiletries, they even provided robes and yoga mats! They thoughtfully provided lots of local attractions, easy to use tv, bluetooth sound system and were very responsive whenever we had questions before and during our stay. Cygnet is a very beautiful and cute little town to get away from the hustle and bustle, scenic drives everywhere and not too far from Hobart either (45-50min drive). Will definitely be back and highly recommend anyone to stay here :)

Thanks for having us here!

Light, airy cottage set amongst gorgeous gardens overlooking the Huon Estuary. Quiet, self contained, heated/cooled. There’s absolute privacy - set well apart from the main house and screened by a tall hedge. Beverages & simple breakfast of cereal/toast/local juice/eggs provided. 8 minutes from the village of Cygnet. Private driveway off a no-through road. Many local attractions and walks within an easy drive. Wallabies and other wildlife at the door!
The cottage suits people seeking privacy, peace, cleanliness and comfort, with beautiful strolls and a wealth of easy excursions at the doorstep. Cottage kitchen facilities are adequate to cook up a storm of fresh local produce. Picnic basket and cooler. Free wifi with Netflix and Stan. No neighbours. It’s the perfect retreat.
This little pocket of Wattle Grove is a quiet diversion off the primary route between Huonville and Cygnet – a stretch of coastal road known locally as 'Millionaire's Row'. There are lovely vistas across the water to the Hartz Mountains, usually snowcapped in season. Travel through Huonville to historic locations such as Franklin and Geeveston and or as far south as Cockle Creek – the southernmost point able to be accessed by road in Australia. The ferry to Bruny Island is a scenic 20-minutes drive north, along the coast of the D'Entrecasteaux passage. Pagan Cider, Home Hill Vineyard, Willie Smiths etc are close. Fat Pig Farm (of Gourmet Farmer fame on SBS) is moments down the road. Hobart is a (pleasant) hours drive to the north. Cygnet is eight minutes over the hill.
  • Outstanding. Great hosts, great location, very comfortable and clean studio that has beautiful views of the Huon River and valley.

  • Graham was exceptionally hospitable and helpful during our stay in Tasmania. The cottage was cozy, equipped and immaculate, and we felt very much at home! Graham generously supplied fresh breakfast produce and even gave us bread that he baked, as well as recommendations of things to see and places to eat - an extremely thoughtful host. If you plan on staying in the Huon Valley region do not book anywhere else. We will definitely be returning one day, thank you Graham!

    Daniel2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • We had a 2 night stay at Graham’s Writers Retreat. Graham is a host that goes above and beyond for his guests. Our main reason for staying in this area was lunch at Fat Pig Farm. Graham was able to allow us in a little earlier than check in time to let us get settled in before our long lunch. He also offered to transport us to and from the venue, as he was around on the day, which was really appreciated. So many stand out features to the studio accommodation. Fabulous pretty views, quiet location, very clean and comfortable, plenty of room, great kitchen facilities and some pantry supplies. On top of that generous breakfast supplies including eggs, fresh blueberries and a small loaf of freshly bread baked by the host! To add to our experience we were invited to sit with Graham and Ann around the new fire pit and watch the sunset. Couldn’t ask for more. Huon Valley is a beautiful area and certainly worth visiting.

  • Writers retreat was lovely and very comfortable with an amazing view. The complimentary olives and cherries were delicious as was the breakfast items. We were visiting the Fat Pig Farm and our host Graham thoughtfully ferried is to and from the farm which was great.

The best part for me was listening to the continuous sound of the roaring beach especially at night which was so comforting that I found it difficult to nod off (in a good way). Marg loved the direct access to beach for her daily swim and walks. Great DVD collection and was able to catch up on a few movies we missed at the cinema.

  • Wow! What a gorgeous little beach cottage in the most pristine & quiet corner of Tassie. My husband and I spent the beginning of our Honeymoon at the Oyster Catcher and it had everything we had hoped for- little luxuries, comfortable amenities, stylish surroundings and direct access to nature at our door step. We adored our time in Surveyors Bay and so much of this was because of our experience at the Oyster Catcher. I would highly recommend this property to anyone wanting to escape from the crowds and explore an untouched and genuinely stunning part of Tassie.

  • A lovely cottage in a fantastic location but the highlight is the regular evening visit of the superb fairy wrens. Louella was very helpful too.

  • Louella's place was in a perfect spot. We loved the beach opposite, even when the weather wasn't that good. We found everything we needed to feed and entertain ourselves. We would really recommend this beautiful place. It is close to lots of interesting things to do. We drove to Southport, went to the gem museum at Lune river, the Hastings caves and springs.

  • Unbelievable location, directly across the road from one of the most idyllic beaches. Very comfy bed and probably the biggest collection of blue ray DVDs I've seen. No mobile reception and very limited wifi, which is great if you wanna get away from it all but difficult if you need to be reached or call anyone.

  • Funky little beach house, everything you need for a peaceful weekend away. Gorgeous location.
