Places to stay in Aberangell
Be under no illusion this is like camping under a wooden roof! Not glamping or an hotel. Boatel guests share the boat roofed shed with other guests and residents and no one has exclusivity on this structure. The boat is old and dusty with the occasional spider, an unusual and quirky experience!! The views are stunning. Sorry no dogs but there are two friendly dogs that live here. And cats and ex caged chickens.
Set in an acre of wild flowers and up a mountain in the beautiful Dyfi Valley Biosphere the Boatel is literally a bed in a boat! Not to mention a beautiful open plan cooking and living space – all in a shed AKA the Boat Roofed Shed. Recognised for its amazing and unique qualities, it even won the infamous Cuprinol’s Shed of the Year in 2013. It’s our absolute pride and joy and we love sharing it with our guests! We’ve hosted comedy festivals, exclusive concerts and curious tourists in our little mountain hideaway and Alex (aka DJ Badly) uses it to prepare his sets for festivals such as Glastonbury. We built the shed in 2012 using recycled materials and it was our first major project. Alex is normally a rubbish DIY person, so designing and building the whole thing ourselves was a great achievement and we couldn’t have been happier to win both the ‘Shed of the Year’ Unique Category and the Overall category in 2013. From the shed you can see across Cader Idris (part of the Cambrian Mountains of Snowdonia). It’s so beautiful even in the maddest of weathers, you can close the door, light the candles, pop some kindling in the wood burner and be snug and warm in moments. Our guests all love staying in the Boatel - they love the peace, the location, the structure, the ambience, and the curios (Alex is a big collector and has been on Antiques Roadshow with his Poole Pottery collection!). As well as the relentless throwing of Frisbees for the dogs! We supply all bedding but do not supply towels or breakfast.
We live in the dyfi valley biosphere and we are very committed environmentalists. There are a lot of fantastic Visitor attractions in the area, particularly the Centre of Alternative Technology, Talyllyn Railways and of course Cader Idris – which is part of the Cambrian Mountains of Snowdonia which can be seen from the boat roofed shed!
  • Our second time visiting the Boatel was as lovely as ever, despite the cold and windy weather we were always warm and comfortable. Alex is always easy to get in contract with and happy to help with anything. The space is decorate with all kinds of exciting trinkets and kept warm with the fire and a fantastic sound system. I would always come back here and recommend to anyone.

  • Well where do I start. Just returned from a wonderful night spent in the boatel and im missing it already! From start to finish it could not have been better and totally exceeded our expectations. The location is quite literally breathtaking the drive up the montain towards the boat was something very special. We were greeted by 2 of the friendliest dogs I've ever met the lovely Florence and rex and Alex himself who showed us around his incredible space and joined us for a glass of red and a chat in the shed before leaving us to settle in. Truly top bloke and a pleasure to have met! The amenities are fantastic and much beyond what we expected. My partner was able to cook a full curry using the gas stove in the shed and everything we needed was provided plenty of pots pans utensils etc. I was slightly concerned we were going to be cold but the shed is so toasty with the log burner lit which Alex got started for us an arrival. We had a fantastic night drinking far to much wine, eating cheese and loved being able to plug our phones into the sound system in the shed. Listening to Simon and garfunkle by candlelight late into the night in these surroundings was really quite something and retiring to the most comfortable bed I've ever slept in topped the evening off. Alex has an electric heater and even provides a hot water bottle in the boat so we were very warm indeed. Waking up to the views in the morning when we opened the boat doors was outstanding. We enjoyed a full English with the chickens before we left! And Alex showed us around the land and let us know some exciting things he has in store before waving us off on our journey home 🙂 A trip that we will never forget and we can't wait to come back. Alex, thankyou from both of us for letting us share your incredible space and it was truly a pleasure to meet you! Until we meet again!

    Jennifer2020-03-16T00:00:00Z
  • A little sanctuary away from the normality of life, but its much more than that, there is so much to see and learn from nature, and we must all learn to immerse ourselves in it more often. Anne's place is special and more over, there are few people who can really say they will leave this earth having made it more beautiful than when they arrived, but here it is being done, hope to return one day and see how all those wonderful trees have grown :o)

    Jon2020-03-09T00:00:00Z
  • For those that enjoy nature and appreciate the small things. Annie is a lovely host. I cannot thank her enough her hospitality . The yurts are in a magical place. The views of the rolling hills are breathtaking.

    Carmen2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely yurt, beautiful setting, great host. We stayed 2 nights, got through 3 bags of logs (which you can buy from Annie at £5 a bag) on the very delightful burner. The surrounding area is beautiful and tranquil, great for visiting the forests, hills and coast that the land has to offer. Shower was lovely and warm. It was a delight.

    Livi2020-01-20T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful traditional yurt. Really thoughtful touches such as slippers. We were warm and cosy despite it being January. Being in such beautiful landscape and off grid was really rejuvenating. Annie was a great, friendly host and took the time to greet us and show us around. We just wished we could have stayed longer.

    Sam&Rich2020-01-11T00:00:00Z
  • Our second visit to Annie’s yurt, was a lovely Relaxing way to spend New year. The yurt is warm, cosy and tranquil. Had a great trip to Aberdovey on the Saturday - can definitely recommend. If you want to get away from the stresses of everyday life then Annie’s yurts are a perfect retreat.

    Terri2020-01-01T00:00:00Z
  • Our stay in Annie's yurt was brilliant! Lovely and warm with the log burner, Annie was a great host, very friendly and helpful should you need any help. Yurt is well kitted out for your day to day needs and the local scenery is amazing. Will definitely be returning. Thank you for an amazing stay.

    Andrew2019-11-16T00:00:00Z
  • Annie's Land is a wonderful place to stay to get away from it all. The scenery is breathtaking and there's lots to explore from the area. The yurt had everything we needed and was so cosy. We could have stayed a lot longer, two nights didn't feel like enough! The dogs loved it too. We'll definitely be returning. Thank you.

  • Amazing place to stay, fantastic views and beautiful gardens! Great for a big group as we could all be together but could slope of if we needed the space away! Will 100% be recommending this place again! So glad i found it :) Thankyou Daniel for your help and support whilst planning the trip!

    Simone2019-10-27T00:00:00Z
  • A group of us stayed here on a work weekend away! And we were not disappointed. It was absolutely beautiful and everything was just as described and much much more!! We are definitely planning on coming back next year as it’s such good value for money and overall was an amazing stay!! Thank you for having us 😀

    Georgia2019-09-16T00:00:00Z
  • A wonderful place to stay, our family loved every moment and we would definitely visit again.

    Nadia2019-08-07T00:00:00Z
  • Second time we've visited, just as great as the first. Brilliant leave for large groups. Thanks!

  • Outstanding in every way. We booked the cottages for 3 days for our wedding.Cottages are well equipped, very clean and hot water is ample. The grounds to the cottages are well maintained with breath taking views.I truly believe the accommodation and grounds played a major part of making my wedding perfect. I highly recommend for weddings and plan to revisit with the same group of friends and family for a anniversary holiday.... simply perfect!!!!.....

    David2019-05-27T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely cottages, ideal for any large gathering. The outside space and views were outstanding. 10/10

    Claudia2019-05-19T00:00:00Z
  • The pictures definitely do not do these cottages justice so upon arrival we were plesently surprised. The cottages are beautiful and ideal for a large group - there was 20 of us and we fit into 4 of the cottages perfectly! Daniel was very accommodating and provided us with additional pull out beds as our party grew in size. There is a very relaxed feel, we were able to party but also enjoy the beautiful walked up behind the cottages and the view was enough to get rid of the hangover!! The gardens are beautiful unfortunately there was a storm when we were there, otherwise we would have got the BBQ out. Would be perfect for a large party looking to get away and enjoy each others company but it would also be great for families with children of all ages, the lawn is big enough for ball games and more! The Hall is perfect for group dining, with a large table that we easily got 18 round. If you are planning on cooking I would suggest bringing essential items like oil salt pepper and maybe large pans. I would also recommend bringing additional toilet roll, washing up liquid (although there is a dishwasher in the hall, not one in every cottage). Also bring tea bags coffee and milk. All in all it was an amazing break away and we are looking to book up again! Thanks Daniel!

    Hannah2019-04-29T00:00:00Z
  • Stayed here as a stag group for 2 nights, the place was great for us as we could have some music on and have a bbq/fire pit etc and be left completely alone and not worry about disturbing the peace as there’s no one to disturb! The grounds are really well kept and it’s a great place to take yourself away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. The cottages themselves are great, it’s not 5* but if your after pristine finishes and expensive suites, Wales is probably not for you! If your after a great experience and somewhere different I couldn’t recommend this place enough!

Isfryn is a self-contained property in the beautiful Dyfi valley sleeping 2 adults. It adjoins the former Hebron chapel, which is now our home. Fully renovated in March 2016 it features new a bathroom & kitchen & a double sided wood burning stove.
A very warm welcome to Isfryn from your hosts Steve and Linda. Isfryn (which means ‘under the hill’ in Welsh) forms a completely self-contained property, separated by 3ft thick walls of slate from Ty Hebron, the adjoining former Methodist chapel, which is now our home. Isfryn was built in the 1870s as a home for the chapel minister. We bought it in June 2015, when it was in a neglected state. It was fully renovated over the following 6 months and opened for visitors in Spring 2016. Renovating this cottage has been a very happy experience, which we hope is reflected in its cheerful and welcoming interior. It offers cosy and comfortable accommodation for two adults. To make you feel at home from the moment you arrive, you will be greeted by a welcome basket of goodies, many of which will be home-made by us. Having fully explored that, you can explore the rest of the cottage… In the living room, the most prominent feature is an open hearth with hearth stones of beautiful local slate, which connects this room with the dining room beyond. It contains a double sided wood burner, so you don’t need to leave your warm and cosy fire behind when you go to eat at the table! The living room has two comfortable two seater sofas, satellite TV, free WiFi (we have high speed fibre optic broadband), DVD player, a selection of DVDs and well stocked book shelves. In the bureau, you will find a variety of games, so in the event of inclement weather, you can settle comfortably indoors and be well entertained. As with the rest of the house, the walls are decorated with original prints, many by local artists. In the living room, you will find two USB charging sockets so that you can conveniently charge up any electronic items. The dining room furniture, which dates from the mid 1800s, was bought by Linda with money left to her by her grandmother and was used in her own house for many years. We are delighted to share it with you now and hope you enjoy the presence of furniture appropriate to the age of the cottage. The table comfortably seats four adults. If you like music to dine by, you will find a CD player and a variety of CDs on the buffet stand. We have tried to make maximum use of the space in Isfryn to offer you everything you need for your holiday. In this spirit, in the cupboard under the stairs you will find a washer/dryer, washing liquid and fabric conditioner, a table top dishwasher, dishwashing tablets, an iron and a table top ironing board. The kitchen has an induction hob, electric oven, microwave, fridge with a small freezer compartment and a kettle. You’ll find the basics like sugar, cooking oil, salt and pepper, cling film and foil waiting for you. (Tea and coffee as well as some fresh milk and butter will be provided in your welcome pack.) A rear porch completes the ground floor and offers coat hooks and a boot rack for muddy or wet footwear. Upstairs, the bedroom contains a super-comfy, super-king sized bed which can be converted to twin beds if desired. There is a charming, up-cycled wardrobe dating from the era when it was felt useful to have shelves labelled to tell you where to keep your socks and underwear! In the bedside table drawers, you will find a hairdryer, and a cooling mat in case you bring your straighteners. There is another well-stocked book shelf to make sure you can read yourself into a peaceful sleep. The large landing is set up as an additional sitting room. Yet another bookshelf ensures that passing comfortable afternoons curled up on the day bed lost in a good book, or reading yourself into a comfortable doze is also an option here. The bathroom has a large, walk in shower with both drench and hand held shower heads, a toilet, a heated towel rail, an illuminated mirror with shaving point and a magnifying mirror. You will find basics such as cotton wool, cotton buds and tissues provided for you. We provide all bed linen, a choice of pillows, towels, tea towels and waffle-weave bathrobes for your comfort. All utilities are included. We provide you with two baskets of logs for the wood burner and you will be able to purchase further bags from us if you need them. Your welcome pack will include some lovely things to get you started, but you can easily stock up on the essentials nearby.
Isfryn is on the southern border of the Snowdonia National Park in the village of Aberangell, right in the heart of the Dyfi Valley in beautiful Mid Wales. ‘Aberangell’ translates as ‘The mouth of the Angel’ and the village is where the River Angell merges with the Dyfi. UNESCO awarded the Dyfi Valley Biosphere Status in 2009 in recognition of the unique and wonderful combination of its environment, wildlife, people, language, history and culture. Five minutes’ drive away and just up the hill from the Brigands Inn is the local garage, shop and cafe. It stocks many of the essentials such as newspapers, bread, milk, a range of canned, chilled, frozen and household goods as well as confectionery. It is also licensed. If you’d like someone else to be responsible for your breakfast, they serve the full monty and a range of other foods and drinks at the adjoining cafe all day. For more substantial stocking up, Machynlleth (10 miles) has two large Co-Ops and a small Spar, plus a range of other shops including two bakeries, and the Wednesday street market is great for for fresh produce and baked goods. In the opposite direction, Dolgellau (12 miles) has a reasonably large Co-Op and a large EuroSpar as well as lots of local shops and cafes. It is the perfect area for anyone who enjoys the outdoors, with the beautiful Aran and Cambrian Mountains just down the road, and Pumlumon and Cadair Idris within easy reach. The spectacular high peaks of Northern Snowdonia are just an hour’s drive away. There are walks that you can take straight out of the door, or if you’d like some guidance in exploring nearby or further afield, Steve works as a qualified Mountain Leader and you can book him to take you out on guided walks that suit your wishes and stamina levels! If you love bird watching, there is plenty to see in this area, with Red Kites and Buzzards frequently seen overhead and a multitude of smaller birds. The Red Kite Centre at Bwlch Nant yr Arian and The RSPB Nature Reserve of Ynys Hir are less than half an hour away and the award-winning Dyfi Osprey Project is just twenty minutes down the road. If you fancy getting away from it all try visiting Glaslyn reserve. There is a huge variety of wildlife in the area. There is a great choice of stunning walks out of the door or a short drive away from Isfryn. Cadair Idris, at 893m, is the most well known of the local mountains, about 25 minutes’ drive away. Less well known is the Aran range, which is actually slightly taller than Cadair; an ascent of Aran Fawddwy or a traverse of the entire Aran ridge from Cwm Cywarch (about 15 minutes drive away) is a fantastic day out and has the benefit of a great pub at beginning and end. About 30 minutes North of Isfryn the Rhinogs are a little known gem of an area with a huge number of hills and waterfalls to explore and to the South is the Plynlimon range (or Pumlumon as we’d have it here). Snowdon itself is just an hour away. Directly from the cottage there are options for anything from 5-20 minute pre-dinner strolls along the lane or up Pen y Clipiau to take in some views of the Dyfi valley, half day rambles beside the local rivers or exploring abandoned slate mines to full days out in the local hills. We’re also on the long-distance Dyfi Valley Way. Isfryn is well supplied with walking guides and a local OS map which you’re welcome to borrow. We’re very happy to provide suggestions too. Mountain biking is a favourite local pastime and there are miles of forest tracks in the hills behind Aberangell that you can access from our front door. The the famous Coed Y Brenin trails are within easy reach, as are the Machynlleth Bike trails. You are welcome to borrow some of our bikes and helmets for local rides. For keen anglers, the Dyfi is famous for its salmon, brown trout and sea trout. Day tickets and season tickets are available. For golfers, the website 100 Best Golf Courses in the World lists the historic and scenic courses available at Llandrindod Wells, Cradoc, Welshpool, Builth Wells and Machynlleth as the best in the region. There are also championship links courses at Borth, Harlech and Aberdovey. If rock climbing is your passion Snowdonia is fantastic, or if you fancy giving it a try, Steve is a qualified instructor and can teach or accompany you or just recommend the best places nearby. You can combine a break in the countryside with the thrill of the alps at the Llandudno Ski and Snowboard Centre, where you can ski, snowboard, toboggan and sno-tube to your heart’s content! For lots more adventure ideas, see Show Me Wales For those seeking a more chilled approach to life, the beaches in this area are beautiful. From the classic seaside towns of Aberdovey and Aberystwyth to the vast beach at Barmouth or the National Nature Reserve and Site of Special Scientific Interest that is Harlech beach, with its dunes overlooked by the fourteenth century castle, there is something to suit everyone’s taste and much to discover. The market towns of Machynlleth and Dolgellau are both around 10 miles from Aberangell and both have much to offer. Machynlleth has a vibrant street market every Wednesday and is home to the national Museum of Modern Art, situated at Y Tabernacl and to the Owain Glyndwr Museum. Dolgellau is a quaint, stone town with the Afon Mawddach river running through it. Both have a wide range of individual shops, cafes and pubs to discover as well as having supermarkets and pharmacies. Only a short drive away from Aberangell, you will find the Corris Craft Centre offering 8 studios of locally made craft items as well as Welsh food and drink shop and a café. The site is also home to King Arthur’s Labyrinth and the highly recommended Corris Mine Explorers . Let your excellent guide Mark take you on a fascinating tour of the vast slate mine that lies inside the Corris hills. The world famous Centre for Alternative Technology can be found less than 15 minutes’ drive away. To watch the world go by in relaxing style, take one of the Great Little Trains of Wales , many of which are within easy reach of Isfryn. The mainline Arriva train services also have many scenic routes and can be a lovely and relaxed way to access local attractions. You can download a guide to exploring by train and you’ll find some in Isfryn for your use too. There is a variety of pubs within easy distances where you can relax and savour their very different characters. The nearest pub is The Brigands Inn (named after the band of red haired brigands who terrorised this area in the 1500s), just 2.5 miles down the road in the tiny hamlet of Mallwyd. Dinas Mawddwy is 3 miles away and boasts the Red Lion (Y Llew Coch in Welsh), where you can be sure of good, home cooked pub food and plenty of it! Cemmaes is the home of the Penrhos Arms and at Glantwymyn, you will find the Dovey Valley with its very sociable folk music night on the first Sunday of every month. If you fancy a trip further off the beaten track, why not visit the Tafarn Dwynant at Ceinws for a mix of pub and art gallery. For a welcome tea break from your exploring, try Coffi Camlan at the lovely Camlan Garden centre just on the outskirts of Dinas Mawddwy . Delicious cakes, breakfasts and light bites and excellent coffee (as well as a range of other drinks) If you’re in Corris, call in at Idris Stores Café and shop for delicious treats or stop by for a pint at the Slaters Arms just up the street where Bella, the pub Labrador, will offer a friendly welcome. For the ultimate end to the evening on clear nights, you don’t have to travel far out of the villages to find velvet dark skies and catch stunning views of the stars before wandering home to sink into Isfryn’s comfy beds.
  • We had a really wonderful stay at Steve and Linda's cottage. The property is stylish and full of character as well as being immaculately clean. The location is extremely peaceful and is well located for relaxing local walks or for something more challenging if you fancy. We were going to, but then the bed was too comfortable. The kitchen has everything you need to cook a good meal and organise packed lunches. Steve & Linda also provided a basket of delicious cake, bread , humous and more besides, which was hugely appreciated. I understand there are some good pubs and cafes nearby, I look forward to finding out next time, but a log-fire and a large collection of DVDs was all we needed. Highly recommended, I look forward to visiting again.

  • A lovely, stylish and cosy cottage in the heart of mid Wales countryside with easy access to nearby market town, coast and mountains.

    Rick2019-10-27T00:00:00Z
  • I cannot recommend Steve and Linda’s cottage highly enough. From the warm welcome, to the delicious largely home made welcome pack, through to the stylish decor and extremely comfortable beds, this place is more like home, or a very good boutique hotel, than a B and B. Situated in one of the most beautiful parts of the UK, and with two wonderful and very different pubs just a short drive away, I would advise you to get your booking in early. We will certainly be back.

  • My husband and I spent 4 fabulous nights at Isfryn Cottage. I echo all the previous positive reviews, as our hosts Linda and Steve were brilliant. In summary: 1. Communication prior to our stay was prompt and extremely helpful. 2. They have their own website dedicated to Isfryn Cottage, which is extremely informative and well worth a read. 3. They preempted and catered for all of our needs and the Cottage was lovely and clean and matched the description on the Airbnb website. 4. Enormous effort had been made to provide information/suggestions for those who like walking or prefer to drive plus places of interest and places to eat etc 5. For anyone who just wants to stay still and relax there is a stack of DVD’s and books that you could happily wade through. Coupled with the magnificent countryside and my husband’s delight in seeing some military aircraft fly through the Mach Loop I can not recommend this property highly enough.

  • Steve and Linda are a lovely welcoming couple who are very thoughtful and provide a lovely cottage. The accommodation is brilliant, there is everything you need in it with some additional touches such as the welcome pack. Whether you are staying for a few days or a week you will feel at home here. Ideal location, easy to get to and near to lots of great parts of Wales yet has the feeling of being in the middle of nowhere. We would definitely recommend.

    Rachel2019-09-08T00:00:00Z
  • Steve & Linda's place is absolutely fantastic! :D

    Timothy2019-09-04T00:00:00Z
  • Steve and Linda were the perfect hosts. We new they were there if needed but they kept a low profile. The accommodation was excellent, tastefully decorated and very comfortable. The location is down a quiet road in the village within a short walk of a beautiful river, the Afon Angell and within a short drive of many of the local destinations such as Machynlleth, Tywyn and Barmouth. We couldn't recommend this accommodation enough.

    Roger2019-09-01T00:00:00Z
  • Steve and Linda are the most welcoming hosts I’ve encountered on Airbnb. Really cosy space, delivering everything advertised. Spotlessly clean, private, quiet and in a great location for exploring Snowdonia. My best ever Airbnb stay when I comes to hospitality and little touches. Could have stayed for weeks.

This one bedroom self-catering cottage, ideal for two persons, was fully refurbished in 2016 to provide an open plan lounge with dining area and kitchen. Adjacent to the bedroom upstairs is a very large shower room. The bedroom can be twins or a superking.
  • Sue and Paddy were fantastic hosts and the place itself was like a home from home - some lovely touches such as eggs from their chickens and a bottle of prosecco to welcome in the new year! The location was beautiful with plenty of wildlife. The accommodation had everything you could need - microwave, oven, hob, enormous bed, brilliant shower... we'd be back in a heartbeat. Plenty to do nearby and a lovely pub a 5 minute drive away.

  • The cottage felt so clean, cosy and comfortable. Sue and Paddy both really welcoming, friendly and helpful. Great place to stay to discover the beauty of Mid Wales.

    Marilyn2019-08-23T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage is really lovely, especially the gardens and gorgeous dramatic scenery nearby. Sue and Paddy are very friendly and recommended some good pubs and places to visit. The eggs, jam and cakes was a very sweet touch and we really appreciated it. We felt like we just wanted to relax in the garden for the whole weekend instead of doing what we had planned! Would highly recommend staying here.

  • The place is very cozy and comfortable. The kitchen is very, very good equipped, the garden is amazing. Sue and Paddy live next door and are very helpful. The Old Coach House lies in the middle of a wide valley, just beside the river Dyfi (?).

    Marianne2019-06-10T00:00:00Z
  • My partner and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at The Old Coach House. There was not a single detail that was missed - they had thought of everything! We were greeted by Paddy and Sue and made to feel so welcome. They went out of their way to make sure you enjoyed your stay, suggesting local restaurants, places to visit, they even printed out the weather map for the day we were going up Snowdon and to our surprise the weather was going to be perfect! We were extremely grateful for the eggs, jam and scones that were left for us and they were absolutely delicious. The bed was huge and very comfortable, the shower was lovely and hot which is just what you needed after a day of walking and exploring around Wales! Would highly recommend and would definitely visit again! Thank you Paddy & Sue! X

  • This is a wonderful cottage set in beautiful and peaceful surroundings. We loved waking up seeing little lambs and sheep in the fields. Sue and Paddy were great hosts - friendly, welcoming and helpful. We appreciated the homemade jam, fresh eggs and yummy cake. The cottage had everything we needed and more. I liked the fact that they provided local tea bags, hot chocolate, hand wash and shower gel. We were grateful for the Sky TV package to watch some films after long days walking and sightseeing. The location was ideal for us visiting Barmouth, catching the coastal train and the Precipice walk. I would definitely recommend the cottage.

    Lai2019-04-22T00:00:00Z
  • Great place, great location for hiking in the mountains, near Cader Idris and Dolgellau. Sue and her husband are really very kind and hospitable. Everything was there for a nice stay in the Wales. Accommodation very very clean, well decorated, practical. The bed is super comfortable! We will return for sure!

  • Had a lovely weekend at Sarah's beautiful house. Lovely big rooms and plenty of space. The views from the bedrooms are spectacular! Sarah was so friendly, very accommodating and there was a great welcome basket. Would definitely stay again!

  • Sarah's house is in a beautiful peaceful location with parking. It is spacious, clean, homely and has plenty of pots and pans for cooking meals. We found the pillows and beds comfortable. Bread, jam, butter, milk and cakes were waiting for us when we arrive. A very welcome sight after a long journey. Also tea, coffee and sugar. There is plenty of family games, leaflets and local information. Sarah was on hand if needed.

  • We had an amazing stay at Sarah's hoise and we can't recommend this place enough. The area is very beautiful and quiet, and pictures don't justify the views. Sarah is a lovely host and she was very helpful throughout our stay! Thank you, Sarah!

  • The house is great, set in a beautiful area surrounded by hills and countryside, there was plenty of space in every room for our large family (4 kids, 6 adults). Sarah is a very experienced and lovely host, gave us a few goodies that were much appreciated and was always available for advice and information. Would recommend this place to anyone.

    James2020-01-01T00:00:00Z
  • Our party of 7 adults and a baby stayed here very comfortably. A beautiful house in a superb setting. Sarah was so helpful, she sorted out a stair gate for us and was chopping wood for us when we arrived. She had thought of everything, the dining room was decorated for Christmas and she had left essentials for us like bread milk and jam. Very clean, beds were really comfortable and wifi was good. Plenty of wildlife around the place and a pub within walking distance. Fabulous! It really made our Christmas.

  • This place is an absolute gem! The pictures don't do it justice. The location is stunning and we had such a peaceful few days. The house itself was quirky and clean and had everything we asked for. We will definitely be returning!

    Pip2018-06-25T00:00:00Z
  • The photographs do not this property justice. The house is well equipped for all weathers; log fires for the cold, shelter and summer house for wind and rain, and stunning views from the decking in the sun. We left the car at the pub which serves a lovely dinner and took the dogs straight down to the river for a walk. The area is very quiet being off from the main road and the views are stunning. We didn't have any children, but the house is well equipped for them also with a summer play house, bunk bed, books and games for them to enjoy. The host was quick to respond to questions and was incredibly helpful. It was a short stay but a very pleasant one.

Our beautifully presented static caravan on a working farm in Snowdonia offers light, spacious and comfortable accommodation for two people. Set in its own immaculately maintained and elevated grounds, the caravan has a large, sunny, private patio area with outdoor furniture and lovely views of the beautiful Dyfi Valley. There is plenty of free parking space so that you can conveniently load and access your car.
Why stay in a crowded caravan park when you can enjoy your own peaceful, private space on a working farm in Southern Snowdonia? Our beautifully presented caravan offers light, spacious and comfortable accommodation for two people. The caravan measures a generous 35ft by 12ft. It has a comfortable double bedroom and a twin bedroom whose beds can also be combined to offer a double bed. Both rooms afford easy access to the bathroom, which is equipped with a shower and toilet. The well equipped kitchen diner has a gas cooker, fridge and microwave. The comfortable, light and spacious living area has a flat screen TV, but with such lovely views out of the large windows, you may not choose to watch it. We are within five minutes' drive of the local garage, where you can buy daily papers and some essential household and food items. Despite our lovely rural location, the main road is easy to access, and we're just 9 miles north of Machynlleth, which has a range of supermarkets, shops, pubs and cafes. The internationally renowned Centre for Alternative Technology is a short drive away. The stunning Snowdonia coastline with lots of lovely beaches and seaside towns such as Barmouth and Aberdyfi are within easy reach, as are the beautiful mountains of Cader Idris, The Aran Range and Pumlumon. Snowdon itself is just about an hour's drive away. You can take some fantastic walks or cycle rides straight out of the door, and we have lockable space if you'd like to keep your bikes securely at our farm. When staying at our caravan, you will be surrounded by the beauty of nature, but if you would like to get even closer, there are some rare and excellent opportunities to see some spectacular birds. The Dyfi Osprey Project is about 30 minutes away and allows for close-up views of these magnificent birds. The RSPB reserve at Ynys Hir is at about the same distance. You can also watch the feeding of hundreds of Red Kite from close quarters in a hide at Bwlch Nant Yr Arian near Aberystwyth. If you like the idea of a sociable evening or of someone else providing your catering, there are good pubs to visit nearby, including the Red Lion at Dinas Mawddwy, which offers hearty and home cooked food, the Penrhos Arms at Cemmaes, which also offers all the items on its menus as take-aways, and the Brigands Inn at Mallwyd, which offers a good and regularly changing menu. The village of Aberangell has coverage on most mobile networks. Pets by arrangement. No smoking in the caravan. Electricity is via a meter, which will require pound coins. Minimum stay 2 nights. We offer lower rates for long lets of 1 to 4 months.
The caravan is next to a quiet lane in our small, rural village. The main road is just a quarter of a mile away, so it's very easy to visit many places from here.
  • Margaret's chalet is in a lovely, quiet location. It was clean and had all you need for a stay. Margaret met me when I arrived and gave me some delicious hand baked Welsh cakes and bara brith. Margaret was a wonderful host who gave us amazing directions to the location and left us homemade cake and tea on arrival which was a lovely touch! The caravan is only a short drive from Aberdyfi, Tywn, Corris and a few other sea side towns surrounded by amazing scenery. It was certainly a fun filled weekend and we will be visiting again.

Our beautiful eco-friendly barn conversion, set within the Snowdonia National Park, with a wonderful mix of traditional stone exterior and contemporary interior, is set within landscaped gardens with 360 views of the mountains, and is near Dolgellau, Machynlleth, Coed-y-Brenin, Lake Vyrnwy and Cadair Idris. Downstairs is a lounge, kitchen and dining area, and a bedroom and shower room. Upstairs there are two bedrooms - one double and a twin - and a bathroom. We welcome 1 well behaved dog.
As you approach Pentre Wern, you know you are about to stay somewhere very special. On entering the barn, you are met with a warm and cosy open plan ground floor with a contemporary rotating log burning stove. The lounge has comfortable but stylish leather seating with two sofas and an armchair, together with a large flatscreen smart TV with FreeSat, DVD and iPod docking station. There is also free Wi-Fi throughout. The dining area has a large table and chairs to seat up to six. The kitchen is fitted with a large modern range cooker with electric oven and LPG hob, large fridge/freezer, microwave and dishwasher, and is fully stocked with all the cooking utensils that you should need, as well as tea, coffee, sugar and milk so you can have a cuppa on arrival! There is a bedroom on the ground floor with a queen sized double bed, and a ground floor shower room with basin and WC, ideal for those who might struggle with stairs. The open-tread staircase leads to the two first floor bedrooms – the master has a standard double and the other is a twin room - and a bathroom with bath, basin and WC. There is also a travel cot and highchair available on request. The patio area also has seating for 6, with a BBQ for relaxing on warm evenings after a day out, and has stunning views down the valley which constant change. We are set in 1.25 acres of tranquil gardens with uninterrupted mountain views in every direction - a truly rural retreat in Snowdonia. Have a wander around with a cup (or glass!) of something nice, sit on the benches and watch the birds nesting, listen to the sheep baaing or just sit and watch the world go by at our stream. On a clear night experience the stars in all their glory, and look out for shooting stars! There is a shared detached drying room with washing machine which you are welcome to use and ample parking for three cars. Bikes can also be stored in the drying room. Those with dogs may also find the outside shower room handy for cleaning your four legged friend after a day on the mountains! Central heating is provided by an eco-friendly biomass boiler, electricity comes from solar panels and water is fed from the spring (treated accordingly). Other environmental considerations include a waste water plant. The barn is completely independent from our farmhouse, giving you privacy, but we are right next door if you need us. You will find a welcome basket waiting for you on arrival, and a basket of logs for the burner. Further logs are available to purchase from us if required. Find us on Instagram (pentrewernbarn) for more pictures and updates! House rules: Maximum occupancy of six plus one toddler. Any additional guests that have not booked will be charged for or asked to leave. One well behaved dog only please. Please let us know that you are bringing a dog when booking. Dogs should be kept on a lead at all times in the garden (a long lead is fine!). Dogs should not be left unsupervised in the barn. Please tidy up after your dog. Due to the steep garden and the stream running through it, children should be supervised at all times. Please leave all gates as you find them. For insurance purposes, guests should ensure that all downstairs windows and doors are locked overnight or when not in.
This is a truly stunning area to stay, especially if you love the great outdoors. The beautiful Aran Mountains are just down the road, and Cadair Idris within a 10 minute drive. The spectacular high peaks of Northern Snowdonia are just over an hour’s drive away, and the stunning coastline is about 30 minutes away, with miles of blue flag beaches and sand dunes to explore. We are in a designated "Dark Skies" area (nightlights are set up in the barn to help you find your way around at night!), so it's worth spending some time on the patio watching for shooting stars! The Red Kite Centre at Bwlch Nant yr Arian and The RSPB Nature Reserve of Ynys Hir are both about 45 minutes drive. There are miles of mountain biking forest tracks in the hills and mountains surrounding us, with Coed Y Brenin 9 miles away, as well as the new Dyfi Bike Park. Redbull Hardline also takes place in the forest above the house in September each year. Corris Craft Centre is just down the road from us, with 8 local crafters showcasing their skills, as well as the multi-award winning Dyfi Gin Distillery, and a lovely cafe with great cakes! It is also where you will find King Arthur’s Labyrinth and Corris Mine Explorers. The Centre for Alternative Technology is less than 15 minutes’ drive away, and the Mach Comedy Festival takes place each May. Dinas Mawddwy is 2.5 miles away (there's a lovely there through fields and along country tracks) where you will find the Red Lion (Y Llew Coch), serving homemade food at great prices - you won't leave feeling hungry! We also have Coffi Camlan in the village, at Camlan Garden Centre and Farm Shop, where Lisa and Ian have an ever expanding choice of local produce and quality plants. Or stop off at the Crafty Cafe, where you can have coffee or lunch whilst browsing for crafts made by local makers, or even book yourself on to one of their courses! We are often found in one of these having brunch after walking our Cocker Spaniel, Dilys around the village! We are located under the "Mach Loop", a low flying area for military planes, so you may be lucky enough to experience an amazing flying display! This only takes place during the week, and it can be pretty unpredictable as to the timings, although it is never all day. But don't just take our word for how wonderful Pentre Wern is! Here are some comments from previous guests: "Peaceful but dramatic. Large grounds with lots of enclosed spaces and a stream too. Amazing mountain hikes or woodland walks close by. Pubs and amenities also not far. Fantastic location. Friendly and helpful people too!" "Thank you Helen and Steve, we have had an absolutely amazing stay! The place is beautiful with great views. Would recommend it. It is beautiful inside and out and we had a wonderful stay." "With lazy breakfasts on the veranda looking out over neighbouring fields, listening to sheep, birdsong and watching the house martins nesting, we did not want to leave. We have never felt so relaxed and have already booked our next staycation." "Thank you so much Helen and Steve for sharing your fantastic home with us. The cottage is absolutely fabulous, in a spectacular location. Thanks for making us feel so welcome."
  • We had a great time at Helen and Steve's. The place is quiet with a view and access to the meadows. The house is well equipped, very clean and comfortable. The hosts live right next door and were there to help us and answer our question, and at the same time we felt like we had the hill to ourselves! Helen and Steve provided us with some little treats for our arrival, we really enjoyed it.

  • The house was very clean and tidy. We arrived after dark so it was nice that the house was warm and inviting, including the bottle of wine on the table. We had a comfortable stay in a great location (aside from banging our heads a few times on the low doors - they take a little getting used to!).

  • Lovely, Rustic cottage nestled among a lush valley with walking trails and eye candy at every turn. Lively touches and a decent bottle of vino too!

  • If you haven’t been to this area, you’re in for an absolute treat! The views and the village are straight out of a fairytale and Paul’s cottage is the perfect way to experience it. It’s so nice to unwind and unplug out there. For food, we highly recommend the Crafty Cafe (walking distance from the cottage) and the Brigands Inn (quick drive down the road). Can’t wait to come back!

  • Lovely, comfortable cottage. Perfect for a long weekend exploring Snowdonia with our dog. Had all the amenities we needed. The village has a cosy, traditional pub which serves good food and offers a warm welcome. Other people have mentioned the road behind the cottage, but we didn't find it a problem. It is very quiet at night, allowing for a good night's sleep. We had great weather while we were there which allowed us to sit out in the garden and enjoy the stunning views over the valley.

  • Paul's cottage is absolutely charming. It is clean, cosy and authentic, the perfect place tot stay if you want to explore the Snowdonian mountains.

A tranquil space to unwind. Situated a few miles from the southern border of Snowdonia National Park. Self contained apartment with balcony+patio is set in part of our garden & has lovely views of the valley & hills. The area has plenty to offer in the way of walks & cycling, both difficult & easy or explore it’s valleys, lakes, waterfalls, nature reserves and the coast. Some good cafes & restaurants in spectacular settings. We’r so sorry but the apartment is unsuitable for children and pets!!
The apartment is situated above an outbuilding in our garden, which is across the yard from our house, and has it's own private entrance. Below the balcony is a patio area overlooking the garden. It's situated nicely off the beaten track without being too remote, being just a few miles from the main roads. There are hills between us and the main roads so there's no traffic noise, other than the occasional passing car or farm vehicle. We live across the yard from the flat should you need us, but have the greatest respect for your privacy if you don't. There is safe storage for bikes, surf boards and most holiday equipment you might want to bring.
Powys is the least populated, and largest county in Wales. It stretches from Denbighshire in the North, (approx 1hr 30mins away), to Brecon & The Valleys in the South (approx 1hr 30mins & 2 hrs away). The English border is to the East (1hr 30mins away) & the coast at Cardigan Bay is to the West (30-40 mins). We’re quite central to all the places I’ve just mentioned, so it’s perfect for people who want to explore different parts of Wales. We have access to some great walks, including the famous Glyndwrs Way, which is accessed via a track next to our house. There are more gentle walks along the local lanes, including a riverside view walk. There are also spectacular places to visit just a short, scenic, drive away. .... The 'Torrent Walk', (approx 20 min. drive), is a magical, short walk through a small valley of waterfalls, mossy, fern covered trees & boulders, in spring it's covered in bluebells. The 'Precipice walk', has spectacular views of the Mawddach valley and is only a short drive from the 'Torrent walk'. Cadair Idris Mountain, Wales 2nd highest, is 20 mins away, (Snowdon is in the North of the National Park but as previous guests have mentioned, it's an enjoyable scenic journey to get there). Lake Vyrnwy is a very scenic location & great for walking, cycling, boating & eating - there are a couple of lovely little cafes tucked away there or the Vyrnwy Hotel has a choice of 2 Restaurants, with views overlooking the lake, & they are open to the public. Ynys hir RSPB nature reserve (as seen on BBC's spring watch etc.) is approx. 20 mins drive away, as is the Osprey project, and 15 mins further is the nature reserve at Ynyslas, with beautiful large, clean, sparsely populated, sandy beach and sand dunes, from there you can see Aberdyfi across the estuary, with a backdrop view of the mountains. (We recently saw kite surfers having fun there). A mile from Ynyslas is Borth, where you can enjoy a bevvy at the pub on the beach watching the sunset. Further up the coast from there is Barmouth and down the coast is the University town of Aberystwyth. There are also plenty of little known gems closer to home. Whether you're wanting to explore your way around Wales, walk, cycle or just simply chill out and enjoy being surrounded by nature, this is probably the place for you!

A modern, delightful wooden chalet nestled amongst the trees and land of Darowen. This spacious one bedroom chalet is perfect for exploring the scenic landscape of the Dyfi valley. There are lots of different walks to be tackled, 1 of which is the famous Glyndwr's way. And if you decide to take it easy, just put your feet up and enjoy the stunning views from the comfortable and spacious balcony. The town of Machynlleth is only 7 miles away with lots of places to eat and things to enjoy and see.
Set off a small country side lane, from the balcony you wont see any other property, just beautiful countryside and a mixture of wildlife and livestock.

  • Wouldn't recommend any more. Will be hooking again shortly, the area is amazing and the cabin itself is serene. Wow

    Al2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • What a lovely cabin in the woods. The space was cosy, tidy and we loved how secluded it was. There were lots of local tips for walks, pubs and an extensive collection of travel brochures. The personal touches - welsh cakes and bara brith on arrival! - made it a perfect stay, which could not be dampened by the weather! A beautiful property in an ideal location.

  • I stayed here for a weekend alone, it was easy to find, gorgeous location, I was there too short a time to see a lot as it was heavily raining but I’ll be returning for longer someday. Really sweet touches, modern and cosy space, very clean and lots of extras like tea, coffee etc! Highly recommend!

Upper Barn Cottage is located in the grounds of Esgair Angell, our house. It's just a short drive from the A470, but offers complete tranquility, and is a perfect place to unwind. Situated in over 2 acres of landscaped gardens, including 2 wildlife lakes, within 20 acres of fields, relax here, walk in the forest or explore the local coast and countryside. Because of our beautiful rural location, there are no shops or pubs within walking distance and mobile phone reception is limited.
The cottage is on one level, with two spacious double bedrooms, a large shower room, and a new open plan kitchen, dining area and lounge. In the main bedroom and sitting room, velux cabrio windows open fully to overlook the garden. There is also a large area of decking leading from the main bedroom, with seating for four and views over the garden and along the valley. Access to the living area is via an external flight of stone steps; to the main bedroom via one step. A small detached reading room is a short stroll from the cottage and is a lovely place to relax and enjoy the views. Ample parking and covered bicycle storage are available.
The location speaks for itself, with walking and cycling directly from the cottage, or a drive to the coast and the mountains of Snowdonia National Park.
  • Carole and Barry’s barn is the most perfect place for a relaxing break. The barn is cosy and has everything you need. It’s also great for small children as it’s on one level so no stairs to worry about inside. The location is fantastic. Plenty of places to visit within a half hour drive. The views around the barn are absolutely stunning! The children loved walking around and seeing the chickens, birds and owls! We can’t wait to visit again in the summer months as it will be even more beautiful!

  • An excellent place to stay with very hospitable hosts, a great location, wildlife and nature in abundance and a real sense of calm. My first experience on Air BnB and I am really happy. The pictures and description can't do it justice - it's even better than it looks.

  • A must go place for people loving nature, scenery and quietness. You only hear the sound of birds and a brook. Very kind hosts and a fully equipped cottage. Lots of beautifull places to go in the neighbourhood. A place to return to

The place was even more beautiful than we had expected, surrounded by nature and truly peaceful, and Carole and Barry couldn't have been more lovely! Would definitely recommend staying here, we just wish we had stayed longer - will definitely be coming for a week next time 😍 thank you both so much x

  • Really could not fault this short stay at Upper Barn Cottage and just wish we could have stayed longer! Our first day we spent exploring as the cottage is set on acres of private land with plenty of seating areas around the lake to picnic. The cottage is situated in front of the lake with beautiful views of the surrounding area. Perfect hosts with a good knowledge of the surrounding area for day trips out. 10 out of 10 from us.

  • Stayed the weekend for the Rally with 5 other lads. All slept comfortably, house was nice and warm throughout. Met all expectations and the lovely views and land surrounding to place are a real bonus. We will be back next year!

  • Place is well located on a mach loop if you fancy to see some low flying jets or other RAF planes. We have spent there just over a week and we had plenty to do. There is a great pub "Red Lion" few minutes by car with pool and local food. Shop and petrol station less than a mile away. Cottage is very spacious, modern and have every thing you might need, including a great views. There is a ping pong table and lot's of green space to kick ball around. At the end of the garden there is a brook and a small waterfall where my kids loved to hang around. Gary was very welcoming and provided us with lot's of tips on what's around and what to do. Only thing to mention that entrance road to the cottage can be easily missed as it looks like a road to the paddock. Definitely would stay again.

    Bartosz2019-06-01T00:00:00Z
  • Enjoyed our stay here in a fantastic location in a modern, clean and well proportioned barn conversion. Table tennis table was a nice bonus too.

The Bell House is a cosy hideaway in the heart of a former slate mining community close to Corris on the southern edge of Snowdonia. Lovingly restored, it's the perfect place to get away from modern life. Whether you're looking for a romantic break or a place to rest after an adventure through the stunning Welsh valleys, it's the perfect place to light the fire and watch the stars.
Ideal for couples, there is a double bed on the mezzanine, accessed by a steep ladder, therefore this property is unfortunately not suitable for children under 14 or those with mobility issues. There is also a double bed settee on the ground level, as is the bathroom. Underfloor heating is available, and we have a wood burning stove for you to use. Plenty of parking available. Please note, no wi-fi is available at present and there is limited phone signal. All part of getting away from the stresses of modern life!
Two miles from nearest pub, cafe, and village shop in Corris, and four miles from the Centre for Alternative Technology. 15 miles from the picturesque coastal harbour of Aberdyfi, with its popular 5 mile sandy beach. For railway enthusiasts, Talyllyn Railway is also nearby. We are also in the foothills of stunning Cadair Idris in Snowdonia.

  • I can't express to you how much I loved my stay at 'The Bell House.' I was blown away instantly with it's quaint and petite look. I loved everything about it, from the decor, to the detail to the location. If you're looking to stay in a unique place and come away from a busy and hectic life, then here is your ideal place to be. It was soo good to get away from technology for abit. It's done wonders for me.

  • We had a lovely weekend in the Air Yurt at Annie’s Land. This is the biggest of three yurts, a small uphill walk from the car park. The site itself is about 2 miles from the pub and 10 miles to the shops in Machynlleth. If you are looking for peace and quiet, this the spot! Unfortunately the recent wet weather had left the yurt quite damp for our arrival, but we soon warmed up with the lovely log burner. The nearby pub serves great pub grub and we had a lovely walk at Aberdyfi beach. Come to Annie’s place for relaxation and beautiful views of mid wales. Annie said you can see the sea on a clear day from the top of the hill behind the yurt, it would make for a great walk. Enjoy your stay, and don’t forget flip flops for the shower and extra torches!

    Jenny2020-01-26T00:00:00Z
  • We loved our weekend in the yurt - a quirky and peaceful spot in a beautiful part of the country. Anne was a great host, lots of great little touches!

    Helen2020-01-12T00:00:00Z
  • The site was exactly as described, in a lovely location. First time in a yurt, which felt like a cross between a cabin and a tent, taking the best bits from both. Had a lovely stay.

    Scott2020-01-04T00:00:00Z
  • We had a lovely stay at Annie’s beautiful yurt with our 3 young boys. It easily fit the 5 of us and all of our belongings. The log burner kept us cosy and the outdoor shower was a treat. We wouldn’t hesitate to return or recommend!

    Sinead2019-11-29T00:00:00Z
  • Annie’s place is lovely, we found the yurt to be very warm even in November (the wood burning stove got the temperate up to 27 degrees!) and the outdoor shower was great at night time. Annie is very friendly and we had a useful chat about all things OPD.

    Rosa2019-11-24T00:00:00Z
  • Great yurt, plenty of room for bags and wellies and coats etc (we stayed in November so it was pretty wet outside). Shower was lovely my boyfriend said, and fire was amazing and kept us cosy. Also lovely brushed cotton sheets made for a great nights sleep.

A lovely log cabin on a private site of 24 acres with just 5 other cabins, in beautiful southern Snowdonia. Surrounded by hills, an excellent base for walkers, mountain bikers, bird watchers, military aircraft spotters. Short walk through trees to the village; 3 pubs, cafe, post office, woollen mill, scenic river. A peaceful place to stay. If you are bringing your bikes, let me know please.
Open lounge/diner, with kitchen off. Three separate bedrooms (two double and one bunk bed) sleeping up to six people. Well behaved dogs by arrangement. All electric cooking and heating, hence no carbon monoxide alarm.
The cabin is surrounded by hills, a river, great local and slightly further afield walks, mountain bike forest trails, bird watching, fabulous pub in the village.
  • What a lovely place! Cosy, quiet and in a place close to lots of places to visit. Karen was quick to respond to queries and gave lots of additional information. Really enjoyed our visit and will be returning!

  • The cabin was much more than we expected, it was clean and comfortable with lots of space, a TV and WiFi. In a small town with beautiful mountains surrounding it. We should have done more walks in the local area! Next time.

    Hannah2019-08-08T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed for 3 nights as we explored Snowdonia. The cabin is in the perfect location for a restful break after the snowdon climb.

    Paul2019-08-04T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed here with our three teenagers. Everyone loved the cabin, especially as it is on the end of a row of six. This means there is a bit of extra outdoor space which our two boys used to play football in. It was lovely to sit with a glass of wine on the bench at the front of the cabin after a day out. Morning and evening rabbits appear so our youngest was in seventh heaven. The bookcase is full of walking books for every ability. We used these to go on a couple of walks. Beaches are also close by. We would definitely recommend and hope to visit again.

    Sonia2019-07-30T00:00:00Z
  • Really well equipped cabin which is kept in a very clean condition and is in a good location. Always received very quick responses from Karen to answer any questions or queries I had. Would have no hesitation in recommending this cabin to anybody wishing to book a break.

  • We thought the location was wonderful at the barn; remote enough to feel away from the world with great views but close enough to a village if need be. We enjoyed our stay very much however just noted the place had quite a few clusters of cobwebs in the bedroom and living room, the windows weren’t clean so the bathtub experience looking out was wonderful just would have been nice if it was a little cleaner. All in all we would stay again it was great!

    Lianne2020-03-02T00:00:00Z
  • The barn is the perfect place to get away from it all and unwind. The location feels really remote, but it’s not too difficult to access up the long drive through beautiful countryside. The place is decorated really stylishly, the beds are all really comfy, and adequate facilities for a large group. It was so cosy spending the evenings gathered around the log burner. We got out walking every day, with beautiful hills and valleys to explore on the doorstep. Highly recommended, we will definitely be planning another visit!

    Jane2020-02-03T00:00:00Z
  • I booked Dafydd's place as a surprise weekend away for my best friend's 50th. I knew she needed some time away from the world to recharge her batteries. She and her partner stayed for two nights and then loved it so much, they paid to stay for a third themselves! I wasn't there but she reported what an amazing place it was. The fire was lit for them on their arrival, the views were just spectacular and it was the perfect bolthole for an escape. Dafydd was really helpful with the booking as we had to change the weekend once. Also, he kindly allowed me to have 3 birthday parcels delivered to his address and took them to the barn so that they were waiting for her on her arrival. She tells me it was SUPER windy up there!!! Take extra layers, slippers and dressing gowns for extra cosy lounging around! The fire was definitely needed - but then again, it was January! All in all, Dafydd was brilliant, his place is gorgeous and I am planning to go myself :)

    Amanda2020-01-12T00:00:00Z
  • Fantastic, well equipped spot for some peace and quiet.

    Dave2020-01-04T00:00:00Z
  • Thankyou so much for such a wonderful experience and way to enter the new year!! Your photos don’t do the barn ANY justice!!! The place is amazing!

    Lauren2020-01-01T00:00:00Z
  • Dafydd’s place is in a truly amazing location, away from it all and with beautiful views across the valley. We found the drive up to the place absolutely fine and if anything, it just adds to the magic of the place. There were plenty of tea lights and logs for the fire to make it cosy at night, and the hot water bottles went down a treat. The Christmas decorations were a lovely touch and we managed to successfully cook a Christmas dinner. As mentioned in other reviews, the fridge is very very small and so a cool box comes in handy, as do some bath towels to replace the little ones in the place and some bath bubbles for the beautiful bath. All in all, this is a lovely place that we would thoroughly recommend.

    Chelsea2019-12-29T00:00:00Z
  • It’s a lovely place to get away to. It’s a bit tricky to get to but Dafydd was very helpful. We arrived a bit later than expected and he had already opened the place for us and set up a fire so that it wouldn’t be as cold. It was really nice. Make sure you turn on the little heater early in the evening so that the other rooms are not so cold. 100% recommended

    Stephanie2019-12-08T00:00:00Z
  • This place is so much better than the photos and description are able to describe. Such a quirky and charming place to stay! The dirt track off the main road is longer than I anticipated and it is very steep in parts but getting to the top makes it worth it. Unspoiled panoramic views for miles. Each of the beds was so comfy and the linen is top quality. The sunken bath with stunning views was a special touch. Plenty of tea lights give the barn a wonderful atmosphere on a cold evening, along with the log burning stove. Our party of 5 were able to charge our phones and have ample lighting considering there is no mains powered electricity. The decked balcony was much bigger than we expected and it would have been fab to have a table out there. The mezzanine and loft bedrooms are open plan so noise could be a problem if there are people wanting to get to bed/get up early. The barn holds the heat well and we found it too hot on the first evening as we kept the stove burning until bedtime, with the chimney goes through the mezzanine bedroom so packs out a lot of heat. Lesson learned and we didn’t replenish the fire on the second evening and it was much more comfortable. We cooked meals on both nights and had enough utensils and crockery and the little extras of oil, salt, pepper etc were great to have. We’d stay here again in a heartbeat!

Other attractions are the Centre for Alternative Technology, Nature Reserves, Talyllyn Railway, Devils Bridge and seaside Aberdovey and Borth. There is a cleaner who cleans at the start of your stay and at the end. All linen is provided, but do bring extra towels, if you feel you may need them. We provide cotton sheets and a comfortable bed. There is also a double sofa bed so the house accommodates a total of 4 guests The staircase is a typical cottage style and is not suitable for people with mobility difficulties. Although there is a cleaner who will thoroughly clean the cottage before and after your stay, please ensure that you leave the cottage clean and vacuumed at the end of your holiday. Also, there may be a store of logs and coal which you are welcome to use, but as I can’t always guarantee that the previous guests have replenished the stock I do suggest that you buy coal, logs, firelighters and kindling from any of the local garages. There are a number of very good restaurants in the area and lots of beautiful picnic spots. I can send you a list of interesting places to visit, fantastic picnic spots and spectacular scenery.
The cottage is close to Machynlleth which is a quaint town with all the amenities. Borth beach and Artists Valley are also near by as is The Centre for Alternative Technology.

  • Lovely cosy cottage. Great location for exploring the coast as well as snowdonia national park. Easy to find, and despite being on a main road and near the train line, it is still very quiet and relaxing. And no notices around the house anymore as others had moaned about, so that was good to see the host had responded to feedback. Excellent communication from Gilly, and lots of local info and tips! We hope to stay again sometime ...

    Darren2017-12-31T00:00:00Z
  • This is the second time we have stayed at the cottage - we came back because the cottage is super cosy, in the most beautiful location, and has everything you need for a peaceful weekend getaway. Gilly is very quick with communication - booking and staying at the cottage is always a pleasure! We look forward to coming back for the third time soon!

    Lana2017-10-08T00:00:00Z
  • This cottage is as described, small and with low door ways. However, even though we are both tall, we soon got used to ducking and it really wasn't a problem. We had very intermittent phone signals and of course there wasn't any wifi so we truly had to retreat from our usually busy lives. The shower was a bit temperamental but it was usually good, hot and much more powerful than our shower at home! A joy. The cottage is ideally placed and we visited so many places; Barmouth, Harlech, Aberystwth and completed a number of the walks around Machynlleth using the book in the cottage. We loved our week and cannot wait to return to Deer Cottage!

    Heather2017-09-17T00:00:00Z

  • We really loved staying at Geffrey’s place with our 8 and 10 year old. The space was perfect for our needs as a family and there was even a lovely Christmas tree up when we arrived. The cottage was very clean and it was really handy having access to broadband as phone reception in the area is limited. The local pub is a short walk from the cottage and Mallwyd village is well located for exploring Snowdonia and the coast. An all round lovely experience we would definitely book here again.

    Lisa2020-01-02T00:00:00Z
  • Just got back from a three-night stay with my wife here at Frondeg. This is a compact but perfectly-equipped cottage, dripping with history but thoughtfully updated and equipped. The village of Mallwyd is a tiny hamlet near Dinas Mawddwy, but even if you don’t value the seclusion (and we did!) you’re fifteen minutes from the shops of Machynlleth and less than an hour from virtually anything you’d like to see in Snowdonia. When it rains, as it tends to do yng Nghymru, this is a wonderful place to curl up in front of the fire with your significant other; when the weather is fair, it’s a perfect base to take advantage of all that Snowdonia has to offer. Wonderful few days—we’ll be back.

    Sebastian2019-11-02T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely cottage, well positioned for the local area. Close by parking very handy indeed. I felt the "pub" nearby was more of a hotel/restaurant, a pity because I was sort of hoping for a "typical" country pub, but it may more suitable if eating out is more to your liking. It certainly seemed quite busy. Geoffrey the owner was brilliant.

  • Lovely cottage with everything you need

    Julie2019-07-27T00:00:00Z
  • comfy bed- well needed after climbing Snowdon. Perfectly located to explore Wales - a real home from home!

    Helena2019-07-19T00:00:00Z
  • Great little cottage - just perfect for the 2 of us and our dog enjoyed it very much too. Good location with plenty of excellent walks nearby and a top pub a few doors away. Comfortable, lots of character and just what we expected. Comfy bed, good quality sheets and towels and a hot shower. Tiny niggle - a freezer compartment to keep ice for my G&T as we enjoyed the evening sit in the garden would have made perfection. Great value.

  • A wonderful farm house. Definitely one of the best Airbnb's we have stayed in. If we are lucky enough we would love to go back. Hosts are lovely, very welcoming and have great tips for exploring the area.

    Jayne2019-11-04T00:00:00Z
  • The accommodation is a fantastic old farmhouse in a great location. It is in a lovely remote part of snowdonia and has amazing views all round. The accommodation is spacious, perfect for six adults and has great kitchen facilities for cooking. Menna was a great host throughout and always quick to reply. Would highly recommend staying here.

  • This is one of our favourite AirB&B properties we have stayed in. A beautiful cottage set in stunning countryside. We were only there for the weekend but could have happily stayed longer as it felt so homely. The log burner in the main living was lovely, set in a gorgeous inglenook fire place. The period features are wonderful but with all the mod-cons which make staying away from home so easy.

    Jess2019-09-15T00:00:00Z
  • A truly beautiful countryside location. Our little boy particularly loved looking out over the rolling valleys at the back of the farmhouse, watching the sheep and cows. Very good sized property with two reception rooms and a very well equipped kitchen. Comfortable bedrooms. Menna was a wonderful host and gave us such a warm and friendly welcome.

    Isis2019-08-25T00:00:00Z
  • We had such a lovely stay at Menna's cottage. It was beautifully clean, and is very cosy with beautiful bits of furniture in it which just add to the cosiness. It fitted two small families perfectly - three teenagers in one room and two other double rooms for us. The beds were really comfortable so we had wonderful nights sleep after lots of walking in the day. John and Menna were really clear about instructions to find the cottage and super helpful in offering us suggestions for what to do. They also left us to it, which suited us. Although for the most part we did our own thing - walks up Cadair Idris and lots of wild swimming - we did hire bikes on their suggestion on the last day and cycled along the old railway track from Barmouth to Dolgellau which was just lovely. Thank you so much for a wonderful week, Zoe

    Zoe2019-08-06T00:00:00Z
  • Menna's cottage at the foot of Snowdonia is perfect for a group of people to come and stay to explore a beautiful area, the lesser known end of Snowdonia, which offers just as much as the rest! Ideal for a bit of a relaxing stay, throwing in some walking to work off the big breakfast from the morning, or the tea the night before. The house is stunning with plenty of room for each guest. We'd love to get back there some time!

    Robert2019-07-21T00:00:00Z
  • A wonderful and enjoyable place that mix historical and modern furniture within one place Although it is a farmhouse, it is clean and not smelly. A kind welcoming from the friendly couples Menna & John

The Gallery was once the barn attached to the farmhouse and the loft where the hay once was, is now where the four poster bed stands. It is one of 5 cottages created from a large country estate, built on at different times. The conservatory entrance was once the entrance for the cart. Open to the ceiling it is a favorite with couples.
The Gallery is one of 5 cottages which is a barn conversion open up to the ceiling. The balcony bedroom looks down over the living area which has a multi-fuel stove. There is a conservatory with seating overlooking the garden for tea and breakfast in the morning. The cottage has open plan living room with full kitchen with full bathroom downstairs. All cottages have wood burning stoves which should be lite for your comfort throughout the season if necessary. ( wood is supplied in the large stone barn behind the cottages) Please make yourself aware of the requirements for their operation. Electric heating is also supplied for additional comfort but Pool and Gallery cottages will require the use of the log burners for heating in colder weather. For wheelchair access, there are one or two steps into all the cottages which are manageable, but Pool , Gallery and Hall have bathrooms downstairs. A pull out bed can be provided for sleeping arrangements downstairs. (all bedrooms are upstairs)
The Gallery is the perfect cottage for couples with an old world charm, with oak beams and floor boards. The ceiling is open to the roof which gives it a hall type feeling and the thick stones walls keep it warm in winter with the wood burning stove. The Gallery conservatory looks out onto the main lawn and is just the right spot to have some tea as you gaze down the valley. The birds will entertain you as you relax and enjoy the atmosphere.
  • We had a bumpy start, but a good sense of humour and speedy resolution more than made up for it. The setting is simply wonderful! We had a great memorable time that will stay with us forever.

  • An excellent stay. Beautiful secluded cottage in unspoilt countryside. Loved the simple design of the space and the huge fire made it really cosy. All communication very clear beforehand and a short drive from quirky little town of Machynlleth. Head to the church entrance in Cemmaes for maps of three walks of 1, 4 and 9 miles in local area. Avoid eating at the pub in the village unless you want a laugh - although great for drinks.

  • We rented here to see the park. This place was right in the thick of it. The pictures don't show it, but there is a kitchen. We were pleasantly surprised. Great place, beautiful grounds. It had everything we needed.

  • Absolutely wonderful stay at the Haybarn. Really tranquil, the scenery was amazing and my only regret is booking just the 3 nights. Would definitely recommend this to anyone who wants to get away from the hustle bustle of city life.

  • The accommodation was really lovely-clean, private, warm and comfortable in a peaceful and very attractive location. I was given a very warm welcome and thoroughly enjoyed my stay. I would highly recommend a stay here!

The Grove has all the charm of a country cottage. Surrounded by a lush 5 acre garden created over a hundred years ago, it is the perfect place for the whole family, peaceful and relaxing but also close to beaches and mountains for swimming and walking. Created from the conversation of a large country house built on at different times, the Grove has its own unique style.
The Grove cottage is one of 5 cottages located at the same site. They are all unique in style and age created from one large country mansion in the heart of the welsh countryside. It is A generous size with a separate living room and dinning with a solid fuel stove for comfort. It overlooked the great Wellingtonia tree in the garden that towers 100 feet over the garden. All cottages have wood burning stoves which should be lite for your comfort throughout the season if necessary. ( wood is supplied in the large stone barn behind the cottages) Please make yourself aware of the requirements for their operation. Situated deep in the welsh country side Pool cottage is surrounded by a large 5 acre Edwardian garden. A wonderful place to relax and explore with the whole family. The cottage is near to the sea side of Aberdovey and Borth and is also close to the mountains of Cader Idris for climbing and walking. The garden has a wide variety of bird and plant life making it ideal for animal lovers.

  • Daniels place was a great relaxing stay for us. It was close to all the attractions we wanted to visit. Having the car was essential to getting around. Penhros Arms hotel was a great pub for a beer and a feed after a big day of exploring the area.

    Brendan2019-04-25T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great cosy warm welcoming private and friendly stay. Kim who lives onsite was very helpful when needed and it felt like home away from home immediately as soon as we stepped in. The heating was on and the cottage was warmed up for us when we arrived, which was lovely as a storm happened to come in that weekend. Looking forward to staying again! Loads to explore in the area.

  • Daniel's place is tucked away in a lovely location. Really good communication meant that everything was clear and easy. The cottage is comfortable, clean and well equipped. The internet connection appeared to be a bit weather-sensitive but it wasn't an issue - almost a blessing. We had a really pleasant stay and would definitely repeat.

  • We had a lovely stay in Grove Cottage. The cottage was nice, clean, and cosey, and had everything we needed. We especially liked the wood burner which kept us warm on some really cold nights. The cottage has beautiful grounds and is really well located for getting out and exploring the Welsh countryside.

A fresh, clean space in a new build close to the historical town of Machynlleth and the mountains of Snowdonia National Park. I have three rooms available, accommodating up to six people at any time. Take a look at my other listings if additional rooms are required.
Here you have a king size bed, with your own private shower en-suite, along with a smart TV so you can enjoy your favourite box sets whilst you settle in. Continental breakfast is served from 8:00 till 9:30 in the kitchen area, although I can be flexible if you let me know the evening before. I keep the kitchen and living room as my "private spaces", however I do open up the front patio / garden area for you to chill out and enjoy the sun.
Cemmaes Road (or Glantwymyn in Welsh) is a quiet village, there is a lovely old pub a short walking distance away, The Dovey Inn, and a tiny little shop next door to the pub for you necessities.
  • Our car broke down on our way to Glantwymyn so we didn't actually get to stay at the accommodation. However, Rhian has been very responsive, kind and supportive and we are hoping that next time we'll manage to make it all the way to Wales to visit the area (which is beautiful, we recommend visiting the Centre for Alternative Technologies in Pantperthog!).

Lovely river on your doorstep, cute little place with a log burner, some great local pubs (a drive away) just a fab place for a romantic getaway. No kitchen but didn't bother us at all and Lisa was so kind and thoughtful throughout. Cheers!

  • Nestled next to a verdant river, Lisa’s cottage is a proper getaway from the hustle and bustle. You’ll spend nights huddled round a wood burner, and days rambling through the gorgeous nature mid-Wales has to offer. Lisa and Kevin are lovely, and Lisa’s a wonderful host ... the delicious homemade parfait for brekkie each morning was a lovely touch. She gave brilliant recommendations for things to do locally too.

  • Lovely stay with welcoming hosts.

    Geraint2019-11-17T00:00:00Z
  • A superb cottage, brilliant surrounding areas and an even better host in Lisa. An absolute must if you want to get away from the sounds of the city and hear a fresh river flow whilst relaxing next to your very own log fire. The cottage itself was perfect, a very quaint and warm feeling inside, Lisa ensures that the place is immaculate for when you arrive (even Lindt chocolates on the bed for us to nibble on). Overall a fantastic stay and can’t wait to book again.
