CORONA VIRUS UPDATE Hi all I just wanted to inform you all of how Outdoor Retreats ltd will presently be dealing with bookings at Dan y Coetir Lodge in regards to the Corona Virus. The Lodge will remain open, but we will be taking the following precautions: We will now for the most part, be checking guests in and out with instructions sent over the phone and using the lock box for the key. This is typically how we operate anyway and has worked well up until now. If our assistance is needed however, please be assured that we are close by and always able to help, Corona Virus or not! Cleaning staff will arrive at least 1hr after guests have checked out and will leave at least 1hr before guests are due to arrive. Extra precautions will be taken to protect their health and that of our guests. The cleaners already ensure a very high level of cleanliness at the lodge. Antibacterial cleaners are always used throughout the property but you can be assured that this has been stepped up to include more points. Our cancellation policy remains the same and we will always make every effort to rebook holidays if it comes to that, but please ensure you have holiday insurance in place. You'll probably be aware of the loo roll shortages being experienced, as we are unsure if this is going to persist and our suppliers are currently out of stock we are suppling loo roll at a rate of 1 roll for every 2 nights booked. This is to protect what stock we do have, the rolls we use are longer than standard so this shouldn't be a cause for concern. We have checked with BISHTA (The British and Irish Spa and Hot Tub Association) and their current policy is that there is nothing to worry about while using a hot tub. The coronavirus would be inactivated at the levels of chlorine/bromine used in swimming pools and hot tubs. Our hot tub uses a self dosing system so bromine will always be present in the pool but if you are concerned and would like the pool tested again during your stay just ask. I think that covers most things for now, if things change we will keep you updated but we want to stick as firmly as we can to this policy. Stay safe and we look forward to welcoming you at Dan y Coetir Lodge. Thanks a lot Joe Scott Outdoor Retreats Ltd There are 2 bedrooms one is upstairs and accessed by the original spiral staircase (which may not be suitable for elderly or disabled guests) and the other is downstairs. Both bedrooms have 2 single beds however upstairs in the master bedroom they can be joined together to create a king-size double. We can also provide a travel cot and a stair gate. On the ground floor as well as bedroom 2 you will find the living room, kitchen and bathroom. The living room has two 2 seater sofas a dinning table with 4 chairs, smart TV, blueray DVD player, telephone and a selection of games, books and DVDs. The Kitchen is well stocked with cutlery and crockery utensils and implements. It has an induction hob and electric oven, microwave, toaster, kettle, full sized fridge freezer, dishwasher and washer dryer. Complementary Tea, Coffee, sugar and milk are supplied. The Bathroom features a large shower cubicle with electric shower, toilet, hand basin and vanity unit and a large heated towel rail. Guests are supplied with toilet paper, bath sheets and hand towels and also pool towels for use with the hot tub. From the kitchen you enter the garden, with hot tub and plenty of seating options. Guest have full use of the hot tub, we ask that you read the instructions in the welcome pack and follow the rules displayed in the garden. In the garage you will find a separate tumble dryer, bike tools and service equipment, shoe dryer, clothes rack and cleaning equipment. The roller shutter door has a head height of 2 meters which makes the garage suitable for most cars and some Van's. we can allow pets upon request, they are charged at £5 per pet per night. When booking, we will need the address of the person making the booking.
Although our cottage is in walking distance of Merthyr Tydfil town center, Cyfartha retail park and Rydycar leisure complex, and within cycling distance of Bike Park Wales and the Brecon Beacons it retains a rural feel. Dan y Coetir Lodge is in a row of grade 2 listed former colliers cottages opposite a small horse stable and exercise area.

  • Our stay was fantastic! We asked to come down earlier in the morning to go watch the rugby and Mary was so accommodating. The place was absolutely lovely, with little extras such as crisps and chocolate bars which was a beautiful touch. Good location to get into town - took about 15 minutes in an Uber and cost £10 each way but there was also a train station 10 minutes walk away or bus options. We woke up in the morning to a fabulous breakfast with loads of choice! Really enjoyed our stay and will definitely be staying again next time we head down to Cardiff.

    Danielle2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • What a wonderful find. Fabulous place to stay, excellent accommodation and Mary was very accommodating. Breakfast was a lovely added bonus. Rhiwina train station is at the end of the road or taxi into centre cost around £12. Would highly recommend.

    Julie2020-02-22T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely warm, comfy & sparkling clean accommodation. Lovely welcome from Mary who had provided basics & fresh milk on our arrival. Would highly recommend.

    Judy2020-02-10T00:00:00Z
  • A great location for Cardiff, we used park and ride and then this was so easy to get to in the evening. Mary is a wonderful host, a lovely clean and stylish place to stay. I would highly recommend.

    Paul2020-02-05T00:00:00Z
  • Mary’s place was ideal for a trip to Wales for the rugby. Great facilities, perfectly clean & located very close to the train station so it was easy to get to & from Cardiff for the match!

    Luke2020-02-02T00:00:00Z
  • My mum and man stayed with Mary over the Christmas period to visit the Christmas markets and myself at uni. Mary’s communication with me was superb and she was happy to accommodate for my mum and nan through me. My mum and nan were so pleased with their annex saying it was spacious and great value for money- especially with the added breakfast in the conservatory. They will definitely be staying again on their next visit! Thanks Mary for being a fabulous host!

    Chloe2019-12-15T00:00:00Z
  • Our third visit to Mary and yet again we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. As before, the annex was clean, warm, the beds comfy, the shower was amazing. Mary's breakfast is simply the best. A real home from home, far enough away from Cardiff centre to be quiet but close enough to be near all Cardiff has to offer. We will return again.

    Chris2019-12-07T00:00:00Z
  • Mary's garden flat is a lovely haven of peace and tranquility but with quick and easy access to the centre of Cardiff. The beds were comfortable, the whole flat was well equipped and spotlessly clean, and I loved the natural light and views of the garden from the living area and bedroom. Breakfast was a feast of fresh fruit (beautifully presented), yoghourt, cereals and and 3 different types of bread. Mary was very attentive and hospitable and within 5 minutes of leaving her place she texted me to let me know we'd left something behind so it was easy to return and collect it. I would definitely stay with Mary again without hesitation.

We loved watching the lambs who would come right up to the window to say hello. Sad our weekend is over and hope to be back. A special thank you to Roy who dropped us back to Cardiff due to flooding on the railway and even stopped to show us some sights on the way!

It was everything we wanted for a weekend getaway, had all the amenities we needed and more, was nice and quiet and secluded and the hot tub was the cherry on the top. The hosts are great and made us feel very welcome, check in and out was easy and they were very quick to respond if we needed anything. We will definitely be back again and I would absolutely recommend this place!

Arriving and leaving was extremely easy. We were very thankful we booked this particular house as everything went without a hitch even though it was during storm Dennis! Thank you so much Emily and Christian :-)

  • Thank you so much to Paris for making our stay so comfortable, easy and great value for money! She was an amazing host - offering to pick us up from the station and drop us of at the Wales National Sports Centre the following morning. The house is gorgeous and we would highly recommend staying here if you are visiting the area. We just wish we were not so tired and could have socialised more with Paris in the evening. 5 stars for sure!

  • A home with wounderful views with two amazingly thoughtful and kind hosts. I arrived with a case of flu and they were very sweet giving me an extra blanket adjusting the heating. They have two very gentle and well behaved cats which are so adorable. A real treat to be arround these guys. They were very engaging and we spoke about different things. Felt very comfortable. I was even given a lift in the morning. Honestly cannot describe the place or the hosts in words. They are worthy of every praise. Thank you so much guys. Wish you the best in your endeavours will definitely book again when I come.

Private double bedroom on ground floor. Shared use of - living room, dining room, kitchen & bathroom, plus garden with table & chairs. Located in a quiet residential area within ten minutes walk of shops, pubs & restaurants. Trains & buses close by. Great walking & views in Penallta Park, 5 minutes walk from the house. National cycle route 47 runs through the park. Minimum 2 night stay.
Double room with comfortable bed and high quality bed linen, in semi detached bungalow. This room can be booked in conjunction with the single room (listed separately) if there are 2 guests who don't want to share a bed, or there are 3 of you. I can also put a single or double airbed up in the lounge on request, so can accommodate up to 5 guests in total. Shared use of family lounge (if you want company), or separate diningroom (if you want privacy), kitchen and bathroom with shower & bidet (but no bath). You are welcome to use the garden (which has tables and chairs, and fabulous views of a typical Welsh valley) and there is also an off street parking space if you don't want to park your car on the road. Clean linen and towels provided, also all tea & coffee. You are welcome to use the kitchen to make your own meals, I can clear a shelf in the fridge on request. Free wifi, and you are welcome to watch the TV in the lounge. If you want to know about Welsh attractions, history or beautiful places to visit, I have a wealth of knowledge as my work has involved me travelling to all corners of Wales over the last 20 years.
It's a quiet residential area - a small development of 30 x 1960s bungalows and houses off a terraced road of miner's cottages, close to a main road, a rail station and bus stops. There is a country park 5 - 10 minutes walk away with level walks/cycle paths through the woods and wildflower meadows and more challenging walks over the hills. The park has a great viewpoint of several valleys and miles of countryside at it's highest point, as well as the largest earth sculpture in Britain (Sultan the pit pony). There are several takeaways - Indian, Chinese, kebabs, fish and chips and pizzas, within a ten minute walk, including some who deliver. There are two Indian restaurants, an Italian cafe (daytimes), a pub which serves British food, and another pub which serves Thai food and British food, and two great coffee shops, all within ten minutes walk of the house.
  • Another perfect stay at Adrienne’s. Always so hospitable and welcoming.

  • Located in a cute little town nearby Cardiff. Room was very clean and nice.

    Timo2019-09-22T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed 2 nights in Adrienne's home, picked for it's location just up the road from an event we were visiting. It is a lovely place, spotlessly clean, with everything you could need during a stay. We were given freedom to use the well equipped kitchen and bathroom (with a walk in shower). On arrival there were chocolate brownies and sponge cake for us, along with milk (and special order goats milk) in the fridge for us. The whole house is filled with very nice artefacts, many made by Adrienne herself, there is a pleasant natural feel to the whole place. It is a handy location just minutes from the main A470 for the M4 or Brecon Beacons. The bed was comfortable, there was plenty of parking space outside, we took advantage of the off road space to park my partners motorbike, I sat in the garden and had a coffee, the shower worked nicely, it was all there, just right, and still very much a home, as opposed to the pseudo apartments that so many people try and get wrong. Adrienne's home is just right for a few days in the area and highly recommended.

    Mike2019-08-04T00:00:00Z
  • Every couple months or so I have work in the area and have been staying with Adrienne for these weeks for about a year now and it’s always lovely to be back. I stayed in the double room for a couple of nights this time as another guest was in the single room for the first night of my booking. This room was really lovely and comfortable with plenty of storage space. As always a perfect stay.

    Georgina2019-07-30T00:00:00Z
  • The location is brilliant, close to the train station and the centre of town, everything is within walking distance, including Penallta Parc. Adrienne was a lovely host, providing us with really helpful hints and info on places to visit, travel options and the researching of our family history which was the purpose of ur trip. Also.... I accidently left my mobile at the house when I returned home to Cornwall, Adrienne was brilliant and popped it straight in the post to me, which I was very grateful for! Would totally recommend this accommodation and Adrienne.

    Karen2019-05-07T00:00:00Z
  • This is definitely my best AirBnB experience so far! Adrienne is an amazing host! She picked us up at the Ystrad Mynach station and welcomed us with homemade Welsh cake. She also provided us with unlimited tea and coffee. The room was clean, cozy, and beautiful. If I come back to Wales in the future I will definitely choose to stay at Adrienne’s home again!

'The nest' bell tent sleeps up to 5 people. Either 1 double or 2 singles plus 1 futon and 1 roll out. Inside is a lovely log burner, tea lights and lanterns. Outside is a large decking area and firepit. Beautiful views of the valleys. Ideal for families or small groups.
  • Such a lovely place to go and stay. It was perfect for our little girl and dog to run around. The Viking wagon is so cozy. All the extra touches like the marshmallows and the welsh cakes were so nice. And I highly recommend the breakfast box. Loved our stay here.

    Ruth2019-09-01T00:00:00Z
  • Had a fantastic time! Craig was a wonderful host and so welcoming, nothing was too much trouble. The set up is brilliant, with luxurious comforts and thoughtful touches like welsh cakes and marshmallows for toasting. It's clear that they have thought carefully about their guests and the extra facilities such as a barn with bbqs and fire pits meant that even on a rainy day there was somewhere dry to sit other than the tipi. Would love to return, thank you for a lovely experience.

  • Such a great place to stay, fabulous field for kids/ dogs to run around in. We went for a walk along a magical footpath that ran alongside the property. The bell tent was perfect for us all, 2 parents and 2 big kids. Lovely touches from the host, bbq to cook on and a fire pit to sit around (too warm for that for us). All in all a treat.

A quiet, peaceful place to rest with a comfortable, double bed and wonderful views. Room has a built in cupboard with space to hang and store clothes/luggage. Additionally drawers and bedside unit. Quiet, snug room.
This is a double room with ample wardrobe and cupboard space.

If these spaces are taken please park down the bottom of the street, there is a straight, flat area and plenty of space to park (this will ensure you aren't parked in front of anyone's drive)

It was over an hour by public transport (bus) to get to and from Cardiff, but the area felt very safe and the house had great amenities so was well worth it. Our Ty Unnos lodge (welsh for house for the night). Is a beautifully converted Norwegian BBQ hut with either 1 x double bed and 2 x single futons or 2 x single beds and 2 x single futons. It also has a log burner. We have a 2 night minimum stay at the weekend but you can book for 1 night in the week.
The lodge is based in the grounds of a 16th century Welsh longhouse with beautiful views of the valleys and plenty of sheep around.

  • This place is in a beautiful setting and the host has made very pretty touches to the rooms and communal area which make for a happy relaxed atmosphere. Showers&toilets were clean and always stocked up with soap and toilet rolls. We chose the Barrel because it has electricity but the other 3 ‘rooms’ All have their own perks. Thank you to Craig and Tamsin for letting us enjoy a taste of your life there.

We spent two days and left feeling like we are Russ' friends rather than visitors. Beautiful room, comfy bed and clean and well equipped bathroom. What more would one need? Cannot recommend Russ' place highly enough!

  • Beautiful Place! Gail was extremely helpful and very fast with responding to questions, we never hesitated to ask anything! The cottage was clean and well furnished. Loved the nik-naks! Kitchen and bathroom was well stocked. Lots of leaflets of interesting things to do from local to upto a few hours drive away. Parking off road was perfect and garage had lots of space to store our bicycles and bike rack. Would definately stay here again when we next visit the Brecon Beacons!

Gail was a great host, I felt very welcomed. The stay was exactly what I needed. Thank you Gail. I hope to come again!

Close to Cycle path and very close to Large supermarket as well as cinemas and restaurants. Great friendly atmosphere with nearby local Welsh pubs and friendly neighbours. Very close to public swimming pool leisure centre and 3 times weekly market in nearby Pontypridd
This is a lovely welsh countryside home. Excellent public transport links into Cardiff especially for Rugby fans with excellent train and bus routes to Millennium Stadium about a half hour connection. Book soon for Ruby Fixtures coming August and September as space is at a premium Excellent opportunity to stay in safe friendly place.
This is an excellent location for great cycle paths through out the south Wales Valleys conecting Cycle paths from Cardiff to Merthyr Tydfil. There are also fast efficient bus service taking walkers up into the Brecon Beacons. Great facilities for shopping close to cinemas restaurants and pubs.
  • Helen is an absolute gem, and staying here was a delight. The flat is located in a beautiful area outside of Cardiff, and it's very easy to get to and from the city. The bus stop is only a five minute walk away. The place is lovely and comfortable, and I felt welcomed immediately, which is an underappreciated commodity while traveling. I'll absolutely be staying here my next time in Cardiff. I cannot recommend this place enough.

  • Helen is a really lovely host, made us feel very welcome and was friendly and chatty. Good value for money:

    Ani2019-10-05T00:00:00Z
  • Helen is the most awesome host ever! My partner and I stayed here for a night during our weekend visit to Cardiff. The host friendly and welcomed us with so much enthusiasm, showed us where to dry our dripping wet clothes (from the rain), offered to make us tea, then showed us to our room. Unknowing to us, we had booked for a single room but Helen had graciously added an extra bed from her spare room before we arrived! Really felt more homely than an average bnb, as Helen gave us almost unlimited access (including her Netflix). Thank you so much Helen, and we would absolutely visit again if we find out way to Cardiff anytime soon!

    Opeyemi2019-09-29T00:00:00Z
  • Helen is the most eager and kind host you’re likely to find. She offered me a meal and help securing the rest of my travel plans. She excitedly offered even to go with me on my tour of Caerphilly!

The rooms available are attached to our lovely 17th century inn. The Inn is located in the heart of the village of Nelson offering a warm welcome and maintaining its charm and character of days gone by. We are proud of our excellent reputation with both local villagers and those customers travelling from far and wide. Our rooms are available to let on an individual basis or can be let for group bookings. Message for availability for group bookings. Prices quoted are per room
Access to our rooms is independent to the Inn so there is no temptation to come in for a tipple ! That said we offer great home cooked food and a selection of beers and lagers. In the winter time a roaring log fire is our main attraction
We are located in an ideal position for those wanting to visit Local attractions like Bike Park Wales, Indoor Climbing Centre, Brecon Beacons & Caerphilly Castle. We are 18 miles from the exciting City of Cardiff where many main events are held
  • The room we had at the Lord Nelson Inn was fantastic, really spacious and lovely and warm. We were the only ones staying so although the bathroom and kitchen are shared with other rooms we had it to ourselves. The bathroom was huge, and looked brand new with a lovely big shower and plenty of fluffy towels! Sparkling clean. The shared kitchen was also well equipped but we didn't really use it. Had a lovely meal in pub that night sat next to the cosy fire!! Extremely reasonably priced room and a lovely stay. Thanks so much!

    Rebecca2020-03-06T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely room with comfortable bed, huge shared bathroom and big kitchen with everything you need. Would definitely stay again. I also had a nice meal in the pub :-)

    Jennifer2020-01-16T00:00:00Z
  • I always choose to stay at Kay's and have never been disappointed. I travel to Wales regularly for work and it is nice to be able to have a drink and a meal in their public house with a bit of company, or just microwave something in the guest kitchen for a quiet night in - also there is a 'chippy' across the road. During a recent visit I was going to be late, arriving after their chef had gone home. Kay offered for me to order a meal in advance, on arrival my dinner was plated and wrapped so I could heat it up in the guest kitchen. Great Service, Fabulous Hospitality - Highly recommended.

    Carol2020-01-09T00:00:00Z
  • The rooms have been recently and tastefully decorated. All spotlessly clean throughout. The rooms are above a public house but you would not have known it, there was no noise from the pub, even at closing time. Private Parking is supplied. Kay provides a shared Kitchen area for guests use with a microwave for heating up your own food. However, why bother, the pub downstairs serves excellent cooked food at a very reasonable price.

Full house with open plan living downstairs, 2 bedrooms and a shower room upstairs, and an enclosed patio garden with a stunning outlook and a spacious, secure shed.

The Royal mint, Castell Coch, Gruffalo Trail Wales, and Caerphilly Castle, are all within 20 miles. • Amaizing house: - as a location : 20 min by car from the waterfall eco pathways in the mountain. 60 min by car from the breathtaking Rhossili Bay beach. 50 min from Swansea and Mumbles, the southern coast of Wales. 1 min by car to the Turkish and Chinese takaway :). - Inside is clean and very well furnished, with everything we needed- towels, hairdryer... - Backyard with a view, where you can have your morning coffee. Andrew gave us very simple and accurate instructions about the places we must see in the region. I am more than pleased, and my family enjoyed every minute of our stay in Wales. Highly reccomend this house and the hospitable host, who meet us with a box of chokolates and fresh milk. Thank you, Andrew!

We currently have space for two campervans, max 6m. Vans only please, no motorhomes due to space restrictions. Each space has an electric hook up and guests have full use of the shared facilities. No space for awnings but there’s plenty of covered and outdoor seating around the site. Shared facilities on the gated site include: 3 shower rooms each with loo, sink and shower (our loos flush using recycled rain water) An inside/outside kitchen with seating and all the essential equipment and tea, coffee, sugar and milk A bbq Parking Drying room Bike wash/tools The Roost is a Visit Wales quality assured glamping site. Well behaved dogs are very welcome to come and stay. Guest access Each cabin is private but the rest of the site/facilities are yours to explore/utilise including the shared kitchen and shower rooms.
The Roost is in Troedyrhiw, Merthyr Tydfil, in the heart of the Welsh Valleys with the Brecon Beacons on the doorstep. There's a pub next door (it doesn't do food but has a pool table!) and the village centre is a 5 min walk away. Here you’ll find a cafe (they do great value breakfasts and Sunday roasts to eat in or takeaway (and they can deliver)), pubs, convenience stores, a butchers, chemist, cashpoints (within the convenience stores), an Indian restaurant and takeaways . • One of the best accommodations in Pontyclun. There are only 2 places I will stay in Pontyclun and Tanya&Phill’s place is one! Spotlessly clean and with great amenities. It is next to the station but I heard very little. I can’t wait to stay again. They have 2 lovely labs too!

    Nokuthula2020-02-14T00:00:00Z
  • This was a unique stay! I received the loveliest welcome from Philip and Tanya on my arrival! Truly kind people! The room was ABSOLUTELY sparkling clean and as comfortable as ever. All I needed was available tea/coffee/milk/yummy Welsh cakes 😁! Communication was great, Tanya checking in to ensure I was ok and had all I needed. Now the pièce de résistance, I came out one morning to find that Tanya had defrosted my car whilst doing hers! Like I said truly kind! I concur with all reviewers who have said Station Cottage is indeed a home away from home! A treasured find if like me you work away from home. Will be keeping an eager eye out for future availability and most definitely will stay again and recommend! Thank you Tanya & Philip 🙏🏽 for a unique home stay!
