Places to stay in Allagash
A traditional lodge built of native logs set on the shore of a trout stream. Near Maine's famous St. John River this comfortable place is fully equipped and includes WiFi, a wood stove and fire pit. Ideal for couples, family vacationers and sportsmen. The location is quiet and private. Convenient access to gem lakes, hiking, kayaking and ATV trails and Gardner Sporting Camps can help with access to some wild whitewater runs a few minutes away. Allagash has a restaurant, museum and library.

  • The cabin is clean, quiet and spacious. We enjoyed hiking in the nearby Debouille Public Lands and driving along the pristine St. John River. The outside campfire next to the stream and the large yard would make an ideal site for a relaxing family vacation.

  • If you are looking to travel to the Allagash Dave and Betty are the choice for lodging. They are kind, accommodating, helpful and the lodge we stayed at was amazing and clean and perfect. We will never seek other accommodations when we are back in that area again. It was an amazing trip and thank you to Dave and Betty for making it happen for us.

Located at the confluence of the St John and Allagash rivers , the River's edge in Allagash offers all the comforts of home. The North Maine Woods is minutes away whether you are here to hunt, fish or just enjoy the beauty of the true northern Maine. Hiking trails are a short drive from town in the Deboulie area. For snowmobilers we are located near ITS 92. Unwind at the end of the day with a breathtaking view of the sunset over the St. John Valley.
The area is home to many unique and rare plants including the Furbish's Lousewort. In fact the St. John Valley is the only place on earth where it grows. Canoes and kayaks are available locally to rent.
The town of Allagash was settled in the 1830's by Scotch and Irish settlers. It remains a culture unto itself in the otherwise Acadian French St. John Valley. Many of the locals still have the accent of their ancestors. You can check our local history at the Allagash Historical Museum.
  • This a beautiful home in a beautiful setting. Hosts were very helpful w local resources. We would not hesitate to return.

  • HOME AWAY FROM HOME! Everything you could ever want and desire is provided! Whether this is a short stay or a long one, they have you covered! This cute house was just the perfect accommodations that we were looking for. Everyone in town knows the house and has likely played there as a kid!! Thankfully they don’t charge more for the view or it would be the most costly piece of property in the Allagash! We met Josie right away when we happened to see her truck in the driveway and popped in to see how we could check in. Since there is limited service in that area of the woods, we did not get the email with the directions until we signed into their WiFi (she sent it with plenty of time, we just didn’t have any service). She was so friendly and bubbly, just like all people from Northern Maine! We were greeted with a bottle of wine (mom’s fave too!) and some snacks, which was such a personal touch! The house is CLEAN! And when I say clean, I mean spic and span clean! That makes you feel so much at ease when you are in someone else’s home! You are not afraid to take your shoes off and get comfy. When you walk in, you are in the gorgeous kitchen (bigger than mine at home) with everything you would need to cook a meal, even saw a crock pot on the shelf! Off of the kitchen is a powder room/laundry, which is perfect if you are staying for a bit. Favorite room of the house is the sitting area off of the kitchen with the most gorgeous view of the river. Binoculars are available if you want to check out some wildlife or peep down the river to see who’s canoeing. There is a spacious living room with a tv (it took me a bit to get it too work, I’m so dumb with remotes), lots of channels to choose from! WiFi is available and is needed in that neck of the woods. There is also a landline, as cellphones sporadically work, so this is great for your local calls. Just about everyone has a landline! There are 3 bedrooms upstairs and a full bath (pardon for being crass, but it’s the best pooping view you will ever have). The beds were comfy and I liked having my own space. You can sleep, what appears to be 8 people, with lots of space. The water got hot quickly, which is super important for girls who like their showers! Outside is an awesome screened in porch, at the front of the house. You can wave to the locals and chances are, they will stop in for a chat. There is also a fire pit and the wood was provided. Unfortunately, we did not get a chance to use this, as the black flies were eating our lunch. Next time I will own that sucker! This is definitely my go to home! I will book here again and look forward to seeing that view again!

  • View! View! View! Outstanding and comfortable!

    Janette2019-07-05T00:00:00Z
  • The house is clean, comfortable, and overlooks a beautiful river. You can enjoy the view from a windowed sunroom or from a pleasant picnic area (with a fire pit) in the yard. The grill area is screened in. I highly recommend this place. It’s easy to find and feels private even though it’s just off the main road.

    Lisa2019-07-03T00:00:00Z
  • Louies place is absolutely outstanding. The St John's river is in his backyard. He came by and made sure I had everything and everything I needed as I had the whole place to myself! I couldn't of asked for anything more. Clean house with lovely decor. I got lucky and no one else booked the days I stayed so had complete solitude! It's a really great place to relax and just think to some peace and quiet. I spent most of the time chilling by the fire pit playing catch with my dog. I cant reccomend this place enough

  • Great Location being by the river

    Sara2019-03-29T00:00:00Z
  • Accommodations were perfect, will definitely try to stay again. The place was adorable and comfortable and felt like home.

    Timothy2019-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • A great house with a fantastic view of the river! The six of us all had plenty of room. The house was a warm and cozy reprieve from adventuring in the snow! All bedrooms had individual heaters and flannel sheets. The house had all necessary amenities, and then some. Not to mention the renter, Louie, is extremely kind, helpful, and responsive! The small town of Allagash is beautiful, and only 30 minutes from the town of Fort Kent which has multiple groceries, salons, and small shops. Overall, we had a wonderful experience!

Unique rustic comfort describes our home set on the shore of the St. John River, the longest, free-flowing river East of the Mississippi and a place of state-wide ecological significance. Views to the West from the back porch and den offer outstanding opportunity to view wildlife and a diverse avian population. Often an eagle glides by. You'll find it peaceful and relaxing. River access via a foot path allows for a canoe trip or walk along the scenic cobble shore. A sparkling place to visit.
A great place for couples and small groups.
  • Dave and Betty were very accommodating and very helpful! The camp was very clean and we could not ask for better. Everything about the camp was top notch, fully stocked with everything you need to cook like pots and pans, plates and silverware. With electricity and WiFi you can’t ask for better! Definitely would recommend to any one wanting to stay in Allagash and will definitely be staying again!

  • You can expect to fall in love with Northern Maine and the beauty of Allagash. Dave & Betty are incredibly kind human beings, which is the case for every person we met in Allagash, St. Francis, and Fort Kent. My boyfriend and I stayed for a long weekend and regretted not taking the time to stay longer — it was truly more than we could have expected or hoped for, and we will most definitely be coming back. The sights up there are absolutely breathtaking. We went in late May and were fortunate to have a weekend without rain, so we took a lot of walks along the St. John’s River and on the hiking trails in both Allagash and Fort Kent. The best part by far was meeting friendly locals and talking with them about the best hole-in-the-wall spots to visit.

A guest review...Simply put, It's the best home away from home. We visited the area to experience the wilderness of the Allagash and got so much more. Darlene is an amazing and intriguing host who opened her amazing house and made us feel truly at home. My home here in Allagash has 3 lovely bedrooms one of which is mine. The downstairs room is an open concept and the upstairs room is private. The Airstream sleep 2 comfortably. You won't be disappointed!
The is something about this place...ask anyone who has ever found themselves here...Peace & Love
Allagash is an outpost community at the entry to Maine's vast private forestlands. Imagine a town embedded in a landscape of outstanding natural beauty embraced by the Upper St. John and Allagash Rivers. It is home to authors, artists and musicians; crafters, quilters and woodworkers, photographers, naturalists and outfitters and hardworking persons of many trades… an eclectic place. You may be surprised to learn that we have a library, municipal services, community center, historical museum, settlements and collections, places of worship and direct access to vast recreational resources. Canoe the Allagash by National Geographic.

Hundreds of miles of ATV trails! No need to trailer your ATV, you can connect to a trail from here! Direct access to snowmobile trail from the property! Wonderful place to kayak and canoe as well. There is always someone around to answer questions and offer help through your stay if need be.

  • This was by far our best Airbnb experience to date. Carrie and Mike were amazing hosts and went above and beyond making us comfortable and providing local activities and offered some insight on moving to the area which we're heavily considering after our stay. Our only regret is that we didn't have longer to stay, we would never check out if possible! Snag this carriage house up while you can if you get the chance!

    Damien2020-02-14T00:00:00Z
  • Warm Welcome, house has pretty much anything you could think you need. Carrie and her husband Mike are great. We will be back for sure.

  • The Carriage House was fantastic for me for an ice fishing weekend. The cottage was roomy, spotlessly clean, and the communication was fantastic through the entire process. But the location was best of all, I absolutely loved my stay at the Carriage House.

    Ryan2020-01-26T00:00:00Z
  • Carrie and Mike were amazing host. They helped us find a local fishing spot, were responsive along the entire check in process and were great to have as resources! I would recommend this spot to anyone coming to the area any time of the year.

Cozy cabin nestled in the hills on the public snowmobile/ATV trails. Miles of snowshoe/hiking trails to explore. Quiet and serene, but minutes from city amenities, including night life and Lonesome Pines Ski resort and Outdoor Center XC skiing. 15 minutes to Lac Baker or Eagle Lake. Fort Kent boasts annual festivals like the Can-Am Dog sled races, Musky Derby, Acadian Festival and Ice Fishing derby. The cabin is in a quiet neighborhood in the hills, and is within 50 yards to host, if needed.
The cabin has a spacious loft sleeping space with a king and queen bed, and queen and double mattress on the floor, impressive stone hearth fireplace, handmade black walnut countertops, and breathtaking views, and a doggy door which leads into a fenced backyard. In the summer, meditate by the pond, and walk amongst the wildflowers. Disconnect from the bustle of life and spend hours on the trails, engage with a welcoming community, visit the many surrounding lakes, or stay connected and indulge with access to wifi, large projector screen, and many streaming services.
The cabin has 37 acres, with access to the snowmobile and ATV trails. Our neighbor hosts hunting tours, you can walk to the fishing brooks, and there isn't a better place in Maine to view the fall colors. The cabin is in a quiet, but friendly neighborhood. We love having the solitude of the country, only five minutes from the amenities of town. Fort Kent is a big- loving, Hallmark kind of town, with something always going on.
  • We had a very good time at Erin’s place even if we were not there for a long time (one night)!!! We had everything we needed in the kitchen to prepare a good dinner. The place was clean and PETFRIENDLY :) even the dogs had their own door! The beds were upstairs in a big common place/room so if you are looking for your own bedroom just so you know.. for us, it was just perfect as we were 3 friends/sisters! There are paths in the wood behind the place but we didn’t get enough time to explore them. It is very well located.. there is a grocery store few miles away just as the Fort Kent outdoor Center ! Highly recommend :)

  • Charming cottage in an enchanting site!

    Veronique2018-09-16T00:00:00Z
  • Valérie's cottage is very welcoming, it feels right at home. Very well equipped, it lacks nothing to cook. It is far from the road, it feels calm despite the proximity of other houses. The lake is warm, the water clear, and the small bank slopes gently, an ideal situation for stays with small children who can have a good time with their feet in the water without fearing that one of them find their nose under water. Note: There is no shop in Lac Baker, so make sure you have everything in hand before you go through the door. However, there is a farm stand just before arriving when you come from Edmunston, and the village of Rivière Bleue has everything you need (including the SAQ) if you arrive in Quebec make sure to do the last races there.

Brand new sporting camp great for hunting, fishing, and ATV riding. Private lot with a mountain view. 2 night minimum
Access to Maine State riding trails from property.
  • Great get away for those looking to escape to the great northern Maine woods. Just a couple of miles outside of the center of Ft. Kent but tucked right into a great wooded setting. Trails right out back were fun to explore and only about a 40 minute drive to Allagash and the Northern Maine Woods roads. Good communication between us and the owners and very friendly neighbors on both sides.

    Troy2019-10-20T00:00:00Z
  • Great location just outside of Fort Kent, less than 10 minutes to the stores and restaurants there and far enough out of town to be very private in a nice neighborhood. Was within striking distance of Allagash and the North Maine Woods which was the purpose of our visit. Appears to be a great area for ATV's which we may consider for a future visit. The cabin is nice, new, and clean and will be even better as they continue to put the finishing touches on it. Our family really enjoyed having a private place all to ourselves for not much more than a hotel room.

    Adam2019-10-15T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed at Kevin & Steph’s cabin while moving our daughter into UMFK. We were so impressed with how beautiful the cabin was! We didn’t want to leave! We will definitely be back! Thank you Kevin and Steph!!!!

  • We had a great time Sharon and Carl are great hosts their response time is great. The house was clean and spacious. Plenty of parking with easy access to the snowmobile trails.

  • We spent 1 week in this 5 bedroom home on Eagle Lake. There was a total of 9 and the house was perfect. This house and location will not disappoint. With a short lake crossing you can access ITS trails. There is plenty of parking for trailers and vehicles. (we had (1) 4 place and (1) 2 place trailer and 3 pick ups) we are already planning next years vacation!!! Just note that the 1 bedroom that says 2 singles are actually a bunk bed. Other than that everything else is and was perfect!

    Michele2020-02-29T00:00:00Z
  • This is a great place for snowmobilers with plenty of trailer parking and easy access to both ITS and local club trails. So much better than a hotel and having to go back out to find a restaurant. We rode midweek and with the exception of a few small areas the trails were in exceptional condition. Don't forget to being your ice fishing gear as well. Thanks so much Sharon & Carl; we'll be back!

  • Thank you very much for opening your wonderful camp to us. We loved the location! It couldn’t have been any better. Peaceful, beautiful, restful, and cozy. The canoe and paddle boat were fun to take out on the lake. The kitchen is well equipped and the pellet stoves made for cozy nights and naps. We would love to come back someday during the summer to fully enjoy the lake. A perfect spot close enough to Fort Kent for convenience, but out of town to enjoy peace and quiet. The weekend was just perfect to spend time with our daughter and family to celebrate our daughter’s college graduation.

  • What an excellent place. I probably shouldn't talk too highly of the place as it may make it harder for us to return if they get booked up solid. LOL What a great experience staying here. From the owner to his son, to his caretaker, they all went out of their way to make our stay one of the best we have ever had in Maine. The location is perfect for snowmobiling. The trail runs right by the place, gas is only 1 block away, and the local stores have anything you would need. The kitchen layout works perfectly. There is a nice large sitting/TV room. It made it easy for our large group to watch the Super Bowl together. There is plenty of room so you are not on top of 1 another. The upstairs bedrooms are laid out perfectly. Plenty of hot water for dish washing and showers. Part of our group rented the adjoining apartment. The connected doors made it very easy for us to gather together. There was plenty of room for us to park our snowmobile trailers right at the house. But there is adjoining land if needed for more parking. I just can't say enough great things about this rental .

    Rick2019-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • Alan and Gloria were fabulous hosts, and went out of their way to accommodate the needs of our group. The spaces worked very well for us - and we loved having such a great kitchen with plenty of dishes for a large group! We'll certainly stay with them on future trips to the Fort Kent / Eagle Lake area.

    Scottie2017-12-17T00:00:00Z
  • The interior is beautifully updated and very clean. We stayed with six adults and had more than enough room. The first floor had a large kitchen, eating area, living room, full bath and bedroom with two single beds. Second floor had a bedroom with king bed and ensuite bath, and an exercise room with treadmill, elliptical and some weights. The third floor had a full bath with two bedrooms (queen and two twins). Eagle lake is across the street and there are local convenience stores at the end of the road. Alan was there to greet us when we arrived and made sure we had everything we needed.

    Kristen2017-07-24T00:00:00Z
  • This location was perfect and the description was exactly spot on. We felt right at home the moment we stepped inside. There was plenty of room for us to relax together and space to go off alone if we decided to do that. The kitchen is awesome. There was everything we needed to prepare our meals and the items were of high quality, We would stay here again for sure! We have told our friends about this location already.
