Places to stay in Altnaharra
Lovely spacious, rustic holiday flat to let within our traditional Highland Croft House. 1 Bedroom (sleeps 2). Fully equipped kitchen, living room and bathroom with bath and rinsing shower. Situated 4 miles North of Lairg. Beautiful, peaceful setting. Ideal area for walking, fishing, exploring or simply relaxing. Please note: this is self catering accommodation.
The apartment is attached, but separate to our family home. There are lots books, games, local information and DVD's for you to make use of, should you wish during your stay. I am also very happy to recommend places to visit or give you information on hikes around the area.
The apartment is located in a crofting/farming location. The property is also adjacent to our family run campsite. A very peaceful area only 4 miles from the village of Lairg. Please note: there are 2 grocer shops and gas station in the village of Lairg. We would also recommend The Pier cafe for lunches and evening meals which is also in Lairg.
  • Sasha's place is a lovely comfortable flat with everything you need. It has a relaxed and homely atmosphere, the flat is ideally situated for exploring Lairg and beyond. You won't be disappointed. Sasha is a great host, communication beforehand was excellent and she was there to meet us on arrival even though it was a dark and wet night. Thank you for everything.

  • Nice place and very handy for Lairg.

  • Sasha welcomes you like you're coming home for the holidays :) a great little place, Sasha communicated quickly and gave great directions and local tips. The house, all and all, is perfectly cozy and perfectly located for adventures around Sutherland. We adored Ravens rock gorge- don't miss this woodland gem!!

  • Sasha's apartment is the coziest one we ever saw. It has the amazing fireplace, a lot of books and a nice bed. Sasha is a super friendly host who reacts almost immediatly and fixes stuff really fast. The apartment was as clean as can be expected when staying between sheep and horses and when all the closets and shelves are full of stuff, meaning that it was a bit dusty and there were some tiny spider webs after a few days. The aparments location is central, perfect for the north coast 500. There is a Spar supermarket on a 5-minute drive and an excellent restaurant (The Pier), unfortunately only open around the weekend. This apartment is absolute recommendation!

  • The place was wonderful and spacious and Sasha as well as her daughters were very helpful. Would highly recommend for a short or long stay.

    Carla2019-09-28T00:00:00Z
  • The place is what you will need and want on your weekend. Highly recommended.

    Puneet2019-09-22T00:00:00Z
  • Sasha is a great host, very helpful and friendly. The charming flat we had all to ourselves is fully equipped for long term stays, but we only stayed 2 nights. The house is on a rural property, the village of Lairg being a few minutes away by car. The flat is on the ground floor and therefore ideal for older lazier folks like us.

  • The pod was perfect in every way. In a very idyllic location with a great costal drive to get to. The pod itself was spotless, perfectly laid out with lovely little touches such as beers in the fridge and breakfast provisions. We stayed on a winter's night and the pod was lovely and cosy and you get to wake up to amazing views. A great stop off on the NC500 - the best place we stayed on our trip. Hope to visit one day again!

  • Mandy and Lindsay are fantastic hosts. They are so hospitable, helpful and friendly. Mandy makes fantastic porridge and Lindsay makes a mean cafetiere of coffee - lovely and strong. The bed was so comfortable and the views across the moors are magnificent. And to top it off we had a stunning double rainbow in the evening. Highly recommended.

  • Great room calm and clean in the beautiful scottish land. Mandy and its husband are great hosts.

    Herve2019-07-31T00:00:00Z
  • Mandy and her husband runs this hidden gem B&B. It is located in a beautiful part of the highlands on route 500. You pass exceptional landscapes on the way and you will be met with the warm hospitality of Mandy and her husband who welcomed us with tea and biscuits. We had the mountain view room which also happened to have view of the Loch. The room was spacious and clean. We took the option of having a 3 course dinner prepared by Mandy - it was delicious and such a nice way to get to know 2 other couples who were also staying there that night. Breakfast by Mandy was also standout - full hot Scottish breakfast - black pudding, eggs, haggis, bacon, sausage etc. Don't miss this wonderful gem of a B&B! We would love to go back again.

    Grace2019-07-17T00:00:00Z
  • Fantastic B&B, and so much more. Super friendly hosts, very knowledgeable about area, accommodation spotless and very comfortable. We loved our stay at Mandy’s.

  • Pictures do not do this place justice, very cosy and warm and clean. Margaret was a fabulous host

    Lotte2020-03-13T00:00:00Z
  • My partner and I stayed at this pod while travelling the North Coast 500. Cannot recommend it enough, Margaret has made it extremely cosy and charming. Immaculately clean and the balcony offers an amazing view.

    Tom2020-03-12T00:00:00Z
  • This was an absolute gem to find, fallen in love with this location not only for the heated flooring and more space than we thought (I am 6ft 3 and me and my partner found it easy to live there) but the view from the front balcony is absolutly breathtaking we were able to sit there for 2 hours and just watch the waves and birds. Very sad to leave but definitely will be coming back! Made to feel right at home it was the best place we stayed by far in our trip.

    Nicholas2020-03-04T00:00:00Z
  • Great view and nice little place!

    Alex2020-03-03T00:00:00Z
  • A really wonderful, cosy stay in the cutest cabin. Margaret was a great communicator and the logpod itself was thoughtfully decorated and had lots of nice homely touches (we loved the hot water bottle, candles and fresh farm eggs) . Thank you!

    Eilidh2020-02-25T00:00:00Z
  • Very welcoming host. Gave a tour on how everything works (shower, cooker etc). Has heated floors and a heater so was very warm. Left us fresh eggs from her chickens, which were amazing! Very comfy bed that is perfect for two with a TV (freeview). Shower was OK but went cold after a while so if there is two of you make them relatively quick (5 mins each) so you both get hot water. Absolutely stunning view of the ocean from front porch, perfect for a morning cuppa! 100% coming back to this lovely little scenic house. Recommend very highly.

    Taran2020-02-20T00:00:00Z
  • Margaret’s place is absolutely stunning. A really classy pod, with everything you could possibly need and a totally glorious view. And to top it all off she gave us the most deliciously fresh eggs from her hens for our breakfast - what a treat. We will certainly be back, and highly recommend to everyone!

They gave us so much of their private time (and lots of cups of tea) that we felt almost like a family. Location - bliss, breakfasts - delicious, portions - generous, beds - super comfy, home made coffee cake - YUM! Not to mention that surprise dinner party! • Very comfortable stay in a large room and bathroom. Great breakfast and super friendly host!

    Fabien2020-01-07T00:00:00Z
  • I've been completely seduced by Trish and her cozy house. It's been the first time I really felt at home during my road trip. I was like in my own family, we talked for hours around a cup of tea, that she proposed to warm myself from the cold weather outside. She's so friendly. And the space I had upstairs so large and comfortable, with nice high beds and tweed covers. Very quiet and restful. Would love to go again and stay longer!

    Teresa2020-01-04T00:00:00Z
  • We absolutely loved our stay at Irene and Brian's cottage. The cottage offers sensational views and was very comfortable. The hospitality offered by Irene and Brian was a special touch. They provided some delicious bits of food and as we were there for New Year's Eve, they invited us to join them and their neighbours for a bonfire and fireworks, as well as providing a late check out to ease into the new year. We spent two nights here as we made our way around the coast and would have loved to stay longer! Highly recommended!

    Steve2020-01-01T00:00:00Z

  • We had a fantastic stay at Irenes little hut. We could not think of any better Airbnb because every detail was perfect. Irene and her husband were absolutely friendly and welcoming and we had a very nice chat with them. The view was stunning and there were a lot of information for nice walks and recommendations for restaurants provided. We really hope we can stay at this place again.

    Mara2019-10-22T00:00:00Z
  • Such a gem of a place, very well thought through and also very warm despite chilly October outside. This is also a great base for exploring the far North and all the beaches nearby. The views from the windows are one of the best I’ve had in AirBnb.

Behind the cottage are miles of empty rolling hills, mountains and rivers which you are free to explore. The family who own the Blarich Estate and who live in the Lodge are very approachable and will happily help you with any enquiries, but equally they will leave you alone to your own devices and respect your privacy.
  • A lovely cottage with everything you need for exploring the local area. We were a group of 4 adults and two children and it suited our needs perfectly for a couple of days walking in the hills. Welcoming touches like flowers in the rooms and the bottle of wine and crisps were gratefully received after a long journey. We picked a rainy couple of days but there was plenty of hot water and a log burner for when we returned rather soggy from our walks. We hope to return again and for longer next time - hopefully in the sunshine.

  • Let me just say: Wow! This is an amazing and charming cottage. I’d be thrilled to go back any time! As if the cottage and little garden isn’t enough, then the view and surroundings will pull you in. Beautiful hills marks the horizon - I do believe hobbits could live there. The fields, the little river and the sheep grazing around the place makes a peaceful and yet lively atmosphere. Also, very clean and funny books.

  • We had a wonderful time in Sutherland. The cottage is wonderful and fully furnished in a perfect position to explore the surroundings! Great hospitality and prompt replies from Annelie. Amazing place to stay with family and friends. Stunning valley!

    Isabelle2019-08-17T00:00:00Z
  • Annelie’s place is cosy, clean and welcoming. She was helpful and her communication was speedy. Greeted with a bottle of wine and nibbles! Great little touches provided like music dock. Amenities outstanding - we used the tennis court, the climbing wall, swam in the stream, ate in the garden. Such a great property and would have happily stayed longer. Thank you Annelie!

    Freya2019-08-15T00:00:00Z
  • Wonderful place. Snow fowls in the garden, swimming in the river behind the house, panoramic views!

    Rob2019-07-26T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage is really typical, near a large farm where you can use the tennis court which also acts as a basketball court (balls, balls and snowshoes are available). Our kids enjoyed hitting the ball in the middle of the sheep. The cottage is also located about twenty meters from a beautiful river a little furious. Possibility of hiking very quickly in the moor among the sheep. The interior is very warm with a small fireplace in which you can make fire even in summer (wood is also provided). There is a very specific guide to all activities, restaurants, pubs around the corner. For shopping, there is a small Tesco in Lairg at 13km. In short, you can go there with your eyes closed, you will not be disappointed!

Dunbuie has been in the same family since it was built over a 100 years ago. The great grandfather of the current owner was a cabinet maker by trade and some of his workmanship can still be seen in the cottage. A seafaring family, there is also a beautiful cased model of a well-known tall sailing ship, which was also the handiwork of the owner’s ancestor. • Its a wonderful place. Tony tells you it is "only" a mobile home. Sounds like a caravan. But it's not. It's a huge place with full-fledged kitchen and living room. The location is very quiet and I think, if you are lucky, you can spot the Northern lights from the living room (but of course it was raining when we were there). I can highly recommend it.

Clean and very comfortable. The tin tent is compact, bright and cheerful and an ideal alternative to being under canvas - sleeps up to 2 people. Self catered accommodation with electric, gas and all basic cooking essentials provided to make your stay more comfortable. Please note - there is no water to the Tin Tent. Toilet, shower & washing up facilities are located in the campsite facilities block (situated a very short distance away).
The tin tent is situated on our small, family run campsite which is adjacent to our croft where we keep a small amount of livestock. The campsite is just 4 miles north of Lairg. An ideal location for exploring central sutherland as well as the north, east and west coasts. Perfect area for walking, fishing, exploring or simply relaxing. The Tin tent is supplied with electric & gas. It has a small kitchen area which has a oven and hob, a fridge, and storage cupboards for your essentials. Although there is a sink in the kitchen we ask that you do not use this but rather the sink in the communal outdoor kitchen area. We provide basic cooking utensils for your use. The cozy and very comfortable living area converts easily to a double bed for a relaxing night's sleep. We can provide base sheets with pillows and sleeping bags should you require. The Tin Tent is heated. Towels are not provided. There is a separate bathroom/storage area for your clothes etc. Unfortunately the shower and toilet are not in use. Guests have access to the communal shower/toilets.
The Tin Tent and campsite are located in a crofting/farming location.
  • Lovely hosts and lovely tin tent. Just what we needed - was luxurious for us after several nights of wild camping. We were able to have a comfortable nights sleep and dry out. Facilities are great too, and very clean.

  • Wonderful little place Found last min. Sasha was very quick to respond and excellent communication. Set in the middle of wide open space and farm land. Beautiful 360` views. And perfect location for discovering The villages and lochs around. The site itself and tin tent was outstanding. Everything you could possibly need. So much so, we decided to stay an extra night. We loved it and can't wait to return xx

    Andy2019-09-19T00:00:00Z
  • Fab few nights in the tin tent which was lovely and clean and cosy. The toilets and shower block, along with the campers kitchen was fab, again lovely and clean. There was also a wee games room where we spent an evening playing pool and darts which is a great addition to the sight. Sasha's camp sight is a wee gem and I would highly recommend it.

    Camille2019-09-16T00:00:00Z
  • Wonderful place with amazing view

    Talip2019-09-10T00:00:00Z
  • On arrival I was greeted by Sasha's lovely daughter who showed me around and made sure I knew where everything was and how to work the heater and cooker. The tin tent was wonderful, such a comfy place for me as I am used to camping however this is a wee bit luxury for the hardened Highlands fisher. The tin tent is located right next to the shower and toilets, if you are used to three days without a shower while camping like me then having a wee morning shower is great. I bought a load of stuff for my two night stay but I forgot milk and coffee, of course the essentials however I was over the moon that coffee, tea, sugar and milk were all there which saved me a trip as I arrived early evening and wanted to get straight to the loch for a cast. Sasha showed me the larger static caravan and I will definitely be back with the family as this is one of the most beautiful parts of the world located just a stones throw from loch shin. Highly recommended if you are looking to explore the hills and lochs of Sutherland, just a 30-40 minute drive to the Cam Loch and Loch Borralan as well as the countless hill and roadside lochs.

    Peter2019-09-01T00:00:00Z
  • I had a lovely night in Sasha’s accommodation. Sasha and her husband were very hospitable and I took advantage of the optional evening meal and breakfast, both of which were delicious and great value. I would certainly stay again

  • Bethany’s place is clean, comfortable and has plenty of room. Great to have such a roomy shower space. Betty Hill was a real surprise - such a pretty place - and Bethany’s place is well situated on top of the hill with a view of a beach out the back windows. Parking is convenient, it is a short walk down the hill to a lovely beach, and across the road is an attractive looking hotel with a panoramic view from what looks like the restaurant and bar. Strongly recommend staying at Bethany’s place if you get the opportunity.

  • We totally enjoyed our stay at Bethany's. It is as described 'home away from home'. Bethany greeted us warmly and was available if needed. We had a fab stay for two nights. We had the whole bungalow to ourselves. There was a local pub which was very friendly and served super food. We entertained ourselves at the local swimming pool / spa. Definitely highly recommend and if in the area will book again! Thank you Bethany

A spacious twin room with en-suite shower. The room is in a large house, set in the foothills of Ben Loyal. The room has access to a separate sitting room. The area is perfect for many country pursuits including walking, photography, nature & beaches
Fir Chlis is my home. From 2003 to 2012, I ran the house as a spiritual retreat for people looking for a place of withdrawal and refreshment. Sadly a catalogue of health problems over the following 3 years meant I was unable to continue to offer Fir Chlis as a retreat house offering accommodation with full board, so I decided to list it on Airb&b and simply offer bread and breakfast. Over the past two years many guests have spoken of the serenity of the house and how they’ve experienced a sense of deep peace during their stay. The house still has a chapel and a service of Holy Communion is held at noon on the first Friday of each month to which all guests are invited should they wish to attend. Fir Chlis is situated in an area of outstanding beauty and both twin and double rooms have uninterrupted views of Ben Loyal - "The Queen of Scottish mountains".
This is a remote yet very friendly and caring community. There are a few local shops in the village including a post office, bank, garage, cafe and a small food store. Tongue also has two hotels where guests can enjoy food and drink.

The Annexe comprises of one bedroom, one bathroom with shower over bath (quite powerful), and a kitchen/diner with wood stove, oven, dining table, sofa, fridge, microwave and TV. Free wi-fi is available throughout the annexe, however, it should be noted that mobile coverage and TV reception is poor; an Amazon Firestick is provided for your use (free digital channel viewing) and a small selection of DVDs. You also have your own deck area with table, chairs and a small chimnea - BBQ on request!
Welcome to Amberskye Annexe. So-called because, at sunrise and sunset, you can expect to see shades of amber, pink and purple on the horizon. At certain times of the year (mainly Nov-April), this spectacle is occasionally upstaged by the infinitely more mesmerising Aurora Borealis (Northern Lights) illuminating the night sky during Winter (we've witnessed them many times). Even on Summer nights, the valley is quiet and the stars are plentiful and piercing. Definitely worth sitting outside on the annexe patio and keeping cosy in front of your own little chimnea! Amberskye is surrounded by croftland, so sheep are often found in the fields behind (along with machinery). However, spring time is a wonderful season to view newborn lambs nearby. From the north side of Amberskye, the valley of Lairg spans out before you, encompassing the view of the Loch and stunning mountain views towards the West and North West Coasts - there are plenty of opportunities for fishing, water activities, mountain/road biking, walking/hiking, mountain climbing, bird watching, dining, entertainment and playing golf on some of Scotland's finest greens. If you intend to stay in winter, it is necessary that you are comfortable using a woodstove - the house was built in the 1850s and can get cold easily, despite the heating! Please also note that we live on a hillside and end of Jan-March is usually the coldest time, bringing snow and ice. Although we will do everything we can to keep the driveway clear, a 4x4 capable vehicle would be recommended during these months.
Tomich is a quiet, crofting neighbourhood, situated less than 2 miles from Lairg village on the hillside.
  • The annexe is a very cosy place to stay for a few days and everything is made to make you feel like home!

  • The Amberskye Annex was a little paradise for us on our honeymoon. We loved the peace and quiet of Lairg. All amenities and comforts could be found here. After traveling in Ireland and Scotland 7 weeks at 20 different accommodations, we found this to be one of the best places we stayed. Homey and wonderful—highly recommended!

  • We had a very relaxing stay. The apartment was very clean and cosy. We would come back any time!

  • outstanding hospitality, perfect location, very good value !!!!

    Lewis2019-07-09T00:00:00Z
  • Up above Lairg with a clear view over it, small single track road to get in and out and onto main roads to travel all across the north, this is a handy place to stay. Facilities of a house being part extension, part of the original house, a parking place for the car and a little patio to view the sun going down. We had a good night's sleep and had cooked breakfast every morning before going out and about. We didn't meet our hosts, but we conversed through Airbnb app. Didn't have much need for TV, but a Firestick was supplied to get programmes. Internet connectivity was good.

  • We had a very pleasant stay. A lovely little cottage and garden with a view. Host very friendly. All as described on the website.

    Henry2019-07-02T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage suited our needs perfectly being handily placed in Tongue itself and with easy access onto NC500. Cottage was very clean and comfortable and would not hesitate to rebook at some point in the future.

    Andy2019-06-28T00:00:00Z
  • Great wee place: handy for mountains, beaches & the pub - what more could you want?

    Dave2019-06-22T00:00:00Z
  • Frances was fantastic in communication and her Highland cottage is beautiful, just a few doors down from Ben Loyal Hotel in a quiet lane. The outside and inside of the cottage is just as described, clean, welcoming and stylish but homely. I can very highly recommend it to anyone.

    Fiona2019-06-07T00:00:00Z
  • Frances' cottage is a real delight - picture perfect on the outside, very comfortable on the inside, and great location in the village of Tongue. She's a very welcoming host and has clearly thought of everything to make our holiday go smoothly.

    Chris2019-05-31T00:00:00Z
  • This is my second trip to Tongue and France's place made it perfect. It's an adorable croft right on the edge of town, which is perfect. You have amazing views, you can enjoy peace and quiet, and you're still near everything. Really, the general store was a one-minute walk, if that, and the pub at Tongue Hotel four minutes. This would be a great place to stay at for everything in Tongue and also around it, from Durness to Thurso. Tongue itself is incredibly beautiful, and this croft just makes it better. Frances's gave us a very warm welcoming, and we really enjoyed her friendly cat (and also the whisky, eggs, and shortbread cookies she left as a welcome gift). Couldn't ask for a better experience.

The lounge/dining area is airy and comfortable with floor to ceiling windows and patio door. The apartment has WiFi, a widescreen satellite tv and DVD player. The galley kitchen has a fridge, two ring induction hob, oven with grill, microwave and slow cooker - come home to a hot meal after a hard days walking! The double bedroom also with TV leads into a luxury shower room.
There is much to see and do in the surrounding area : hill walking, less strenuous walks along our magnificent coastline with beautiful white sandy beaches which stretch all along the north coast. There are seals to be seen in the Kyle, otters, low flying herons, many different kinds of duck and geese. We also have visiting swans. When on either Ben Hope or Ben Loyal there is a strong possibility of sighting an eagle or two. If you are in interested in history there is plenty to absorb you including a broch, a battlefield and castle. In Bettyhill there is a museum which covers crofting and The clearances of the land in Sutherland in 19 th Century - to make way for sheep farming.
  • Highly recommend! The space is very comfortable, and has the most incredible views. Pam & David are both so friendly and welcoming, make you feel right at home.

  • Stunning views that never get old. Even more beautiful than the photos, hoping one day we will return. The kindest hosts who will do anything to ensure your stay is the best it can be. Clean, modern and a beautiful little space. Thank you Pam & David!

  • Pam & David were wonderful hosts, from the outset communication was prompt and thoughtful in regards to organising supplies for us. The accommodation was extremely comfortable, and the views unsurpassed. There is also a wonderful little pub called The Craggen within close walking distance, as well as lovely beaches. David has extensive knowledge of the local area, and Pam’s hospitality was wonderful.

  • We had a fantastic time here, the view from the property is stunning, and the apartment is very spacious! When we arrived it was spotlessly clean, and Pam & David had provided a few extra bits to make our arrival and stay easier, including them having excellent local advice of where to go.

    Ryan2019-08-15T00:00:00Z
  • When I first read the amazing reviews for Pam & David’s place I was a bit sceptical. I thought that people were just being nice; I was wrong! This place was amazing! Very clear, stylish with many thoughtful touches and beautiful views! Pam and David were amazing hosts. The weather was not great when my wife and I visited but that was not a problem at all; we were delighted to sit on the sofas with our books and a glass of wine and admire the view. I highly recommend Pam & David’s place and I'll definitely try to visit again.

    Antonis2019-08-12T00:00:00Z
  • We had an amazing time at Pam and David's home. The apartment is very beautiful, clean and has an amazing view. Sadly we had only three nights to stay there, we would have loved to stay a couple of days longer. Pam and David are perfect hosts, there's nothing they could do better.

The Tin tent is supplied with electric & gas. It has a small kitchen area which has a oven and hob, a fridge, and storage cupboards for your essentials. The cozy and very comfortable living areas convert easily to 2 double beds for a relaxing night's sleep. We can provide base sheets with pillows and sleeping bags should you require. The Tin Tent is heated. Towels are not provided. There is a separate bathroom/storage area for your clothes etc. Unfortunately the shower and toilet are not in use. • The Tin Tent was exactly as described. It was pretty great. They were really accommodating of us showing up late, accomodations were cozy, and we met some nice folks playing pool in their games room. Would definitely recommend.

  • This was the first time we’d rented a caravan on AirB&B.. or should I say tin tent. We will be looking out for these opportunities in the future. It was a really cost efficient way of staying a couple of nights in the heart of the Highlands and a great location for heading out to some distilleries on the east cost, Dunrobin Castle and the Falls of Shin. It was also well located for day trips out to the west coast. Great place to stay and enjoy caravanning without having to lug it around on the back of the car.

    Peter2019-08-23T00:00:00Z
  • Great location, terrific hospitality and some lovely touches at the site. Highly recommended!

    Olivia2019-08-14T00:00:00Z
  • We stopped in at the tin tent 2 on two nights (half way stop on the way to and back from holiday). Good directions, good communication and as expected. The toilet and washing up block are basic but functional. A somewhat busy campsite but quiet and everyone well positioned around the area. We did get eaten alive by midges, but that can't be helped!

The seals, which can be heard as well as seen. Down by the causeway you could be lucky enough to see wild Otters, Eagles Sea Eagles, Curlews, Oyster catchers, Herons, Buzzards and other birds of prey. (Don't forget the binoculars!) There are many walks to be enjoyed - long - and 'not too long', Hill walking on Ben Loyal or Ben Hope, our local Munro. The views from the top are magnificent - to the west coast and Caithness in the east. If water is more your medium, then launch your canoe and explore around the Rabbit Islands, only a few hundred yards off shore with their isolated beaches - or if more adventurous there is the wonderful coastline around Whiten Head - and some of the highest cliffs in the UK. There is much local history; Brochs of the Iron Age to battle sites of the Clans and the Lochen where Bonnie Prince Charlie's gold is said to have been buried. No amount of metal detecting has brought it to the surface! We have information on walking in the area to local history. There is a museum in Bettyhill, to the east of us, devoted to the Clearances . We shall be happy to advise you on the area/walks in and around Melness and as David is a keen photographer he is able to point you in the direction of the best vantage points as well as give you the opportunity to purchase some of his favourite views - in case the weather is not behaving during your visit! We look forward to meeting you and will do all we can to ensure you enjoy your stay in this beautiful part of the world.
  • Pam and David were excellent host, very nice, funny and caring people. The room, as the whole house, is beautiful (as you can see from the pictures), very clean and with a wonderful view. It is also spacious, and you can find everything you could need. Same for adjacent bathroom, that is like an en-suite, because there is another door that separate your area from the rest of the house. Pam cooked an excellent breakfast for us and help us to book our dinner at a nearby restaurant (very good); David give us useful advices about the area. Their dog, Coco, is lovely and very quite, he will be kept away from you if you prefer, but we loved to pet him a little! The Kyle of Tongue is a beautiful and peaceful area, that worth more then a quick stop to take some pictures. Staying with Pam and David was definitely a plus for us!

    Matilde2019-10-15T00:00:00Z
  • It was a pleasure to stay at Pam and David's home. Everything was perfect. The location, the cosy room, the royal breakfast with a breathtaking view. We enjoyed talking with Pam and David who was very helpful to plan a wonderful daytrip round the lochs. We definitively recommand this adress.

  • Truly, "A room with a view". The view from the bedroom and breakfast area is stunning and ever changing. It really was lovely and beyond our expectations. Pam and David were fantastic hosts, and went out of their way to provide us with maps and information about local places to walk. We really appreciated the effort they went to. The cooked breakfast was great. Our room and the bathroom and shower were all quite spacious and stylish. It was a real pleasure to stay here, and hope to return one day.

  • This place definitely lives up to all the hype and the reviews! Pam and David are the most lovely and personable hosts and we had a great time chatting to them and their awesome dog, Coco. They gave us really good tips for our day in tongue, and had a hiking book for us to use. They also had a wealth of local knowledge and knew all the best places to eat and gave us heaps of tips for our drive when we were leaving. The bed was so comfortable and the bathroom was spotless with a great shower. There was heaps of little touches that they added to the room which made it extra special. All of this and then the amazing breakfast and absolutely spectacular views from the bedroom and living room. We had high expectations coming here and they definitely exceeded all of them! I would 100% recommend to stay here it is the best Airbnb we have ever stayed at in our years of travelling.

  • The Wee House is a great wee find overlooking the North coast of Scotland. We were warmly welcomed by Jenny and Struie. The Wee Hoosie is very clean, cosy and comfortable. Jenny's hosting was outstanding, she called us before our arrival with precise directions. Our visit was a last minute decision, the result being we forgot some things for our dog. Jenny to the rescue with an extra dog bowl, towels and blankets. These small gestures made an excellent stay. Will definetly return, Rosan, Tim and Hartley.

The Bakery Flat is situated in the heart of Sutherland, in the village of Lairg. It is a central location for touring the Northern Highlands and is just 15 minutes off the NC500 route. It is an ideal flat for either a single traveller, a couple or a small family. There is a double sofa bed in the living area. Lairg has many amenities including 3 shops, a post office, bank, 2 restaurants, a pub, café, visitor centre and Loch Shin boat / pedalo hire, all within walking distance.
  • This property was excellent. Nicely located and good directions. The cottage had everything we needed with a good kitchen, comfortable bed, great wifi and TV. We parked right outside the door. Would definitely recommend!

  • Great place to stop over at. Nice flat.

    Shaun2019-09-29T00:00:00Z
  • Nice roomy flat, parking right outside the door! Comfortable living room furniture and wood stove to take the chill off. Right in town, so more light than we are used to, but surprisingly little street noise.

    Mandi2019-08-30T00:00:00Z
  • The accommodation is functional and clean. We appreciated that the stove was prepared so that we enjoy a small fire at night.

    Serge2019-08-10T00:00:00Z
  • Nice flat in Lairg, a great place to explore the area from.

    Richard2019-08-04T00:00:00Z
  • Lairg is quite a small community, so don't expect too much in terms of facilities. Due to its location, however, it ist great for daytrips througout the whole of northern Scotland, in particular the northwest.

    Joachim2019-08-01T00:00:00Z
  • A great little apartment with plenty of living space. Clean and comfortable with everything we needed. Close to all amenities. (Thanks for the shortbread biscuits). We definitely recommend.

    Susan2019-07-18T00:00:00Z

  • February weather & in the teeth of Storm Dennis, but still an amazing place, caravan very cosy despite weather, views amazing, Donald & Audrey couldn’t have been more helpful. Great place to escape to.

    Kenneth2020-02-22T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing location, very quiet and right next to the beach. Great views. Caravan is simple, but clean and has everyhting that you need. Genuinely dog-friendly accomodation.

    Claire2019-10-17T00:00:00Z
  • The caravan is grand - all systems work well enough and it's comfy and well laid out. What really makes this a wonderful place to stay is the surroundings - you can ford the river or cross by a bridge a few hundred yards upstream and walk for miles into an amazing coastal landscape rich in wildlife - we saw otters, osprey and hosts of other creatures. A great tonic if you have been urban for a while.

Ideal area for walking, fishing, exploring or simply relaxing. The caravan is situated on our croft and beside our campsite.
The caravan is located in a crofting/farming location. The property is also adjacent to our family run campsite named Pondside Campsite. A very peaceful area only 4 miles from the village of Lairg.
  • We stayed in the caravan for one night during our 10 day trip through Scotland. It was very cozy and clean. We had everything we need!

    Kristin2019-09-18T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed at Sasha's static caravan mid September. The weather was not the best unfortunately (we caught the tail end of hurricane Dorian!), but our caravan was so cozy and warm. A home from home, so our spirits were not at all dampened! Had lovely family time getting back to basics in the evening, playing Monopoly and card games and generally getting 'away from it all'! The kids found a new interest from Bobby's games room, playing darts! Thank you Sasha & Family for a lovely long weekend! X

  • We enjoyed our three night stay last year and we loved this week that just ended in Lairg! The campsite is very nice. Warm welcome. The central location makes it possible to visit the north of the highlands. If you like the quiet nature go to Pondside! We will come back.

We offer four en-suite guest rooms with either a double bed or twin beds, please inquire for family and pet-friendly accommodation. The price is for 2 adults per room.
We live in a very remote area. It is ideal for walking, fishing, cycling and photography, bird/seal/otter/whale watching, or simply enjoying the views. People are friendly and help out in any kind of emergency. Roads are mostly single track and courtesy is keeping everyone happy. Sheep, lambs, deer and highland cattle roam free and use roads frequently, cyclists and walkers will be thankful for careful driving, too. The Post Office is a village hub with a little cafe, shop, deli as well as banking and postal services. Local hotels over bar and restaurant breakfast, lunch, and dinner with last orders between 8.30-9.00 pm. At the weekends and during the summer season there is a good chance for some live music. Tongue is a village with dramatic scenery and a perfect starting point for several Munro and hill walks. The Moine Flow Country peatlands are amazing, wide-open spaces bordered by mountains and the sea. The Kyle of Tongue and it's easy accessible beautiful beaches are ideal for spotting wildlife, fishing, kayaking, windsurfing, snorkeling, cycling or just relaxing. And to finish off your day, why not try some Kyle of Tongue oysters, Loch Erribol Langoustines, local lobster, mussels, salmon or venison dinner options!
