Places to stay in Alton
A delightful cottage situated in a conservation area, tastefully decorated and nestling in a pretty valley opposite woodland. Explore the Peak District, the Potteries, Antique shops in Ashbourne, Alton Towers or walk to Dimmingsdale from the cottage. Come home to peace, quiet and a cosy wood burner or sit outside with a glass of wine in the little courtyard at the back and enjoy the birdsong.
Arrive from 4pm. Depart by 10am 3 nights minimum stay
There are many pubs in the village including The Bulls Head and The Bridge Hotel. Walk along the disused railway track from the cottage to Denstone Farm Shop for breakfast, lunch or tea and cake. Pick up a ready made meal there to take home and enjoy later in the warm cottage by the log burner. The lovingly restored Victorian Cheddleton Railway Station (near Leek) and the Churnet Valley Railway take you on a journey back to the classic days of railway travel. Treat yourself to an afternoon cream tea whilst taking in lovely scenery. Walkers can visit Dimmingsdale, walk along the old railway track in either direction from the restored Alton Station or travel on a bike along the Tissington Trail. Scenic Dovedale in The Peak District and lunch at The George in Alstonefield is a delight. Visit Haddon Hall (about 25 miles away) overlooking the River Wye with its romantic house and Elizabethan terraced gardens. Also, Wedgwood, Emma Bridgewater and Burleigh potteries are not too far away in Stoke on Trent. Ashbourne offer many historic building and antique shops. Also, Alton Towers Theme Park is just outside the village and offer much more than just the rides.
  • Wonderful cosy cottage in quiet secluded position but ideal as a base to explore The Peak District and Staffordshire. All comforts provided for and great tips on local places oven by and attentive host. Great getaway, even with the interesting weather, certainly had all seasons in 1 week. (Ciara and Dennis including snow😱🤷‍♀️) would love to return when weather improves to explore more. Thank you From Emma and Neil.

  • What a perfect haven! This is exactly the kind of place my friend and i were looking for, to get away from the chaos of the city. The cottage is beautiful. Exactly as is in the pictures but much better in real life. Spotlessly clean and will all the information about the local area you could possibly need. There was plenty of logs for the fire and very useful instructions for the first time users like myself! Saskia's communication was phenomenal, and I was given all relevant information and more, before and during the stay. The cottage itself had everything you could possibly need. Warm and cosy and totally functional. The location is perfect as simply 15min drive from Uttoexeter train station, and close to lovely pubs, local shop and beautiful scenic walks. My friend and i had the most wonderful time and we would like to thank Saskia for her beautiful home. I will be returning! lisa x

  • Saskia is extremely helpful & informative. She couldn’t do enough. The cottage was spotless, equipped with absolutely everything & beautifully decorated. We stayed for Xmas and on arrival there was a real xmas tree beautifully decorated & lit, log burner was all filled ready to be used. Kitchen had all the homely touches & all the toiletries where fabulous. Would highly recommend staying here, its a dreamy cottage in an idyllic setting.

  • An incredible place with lots of great little touches: the fire's pre build, chocolate is left out and the styling's classic and never overbearing.

    Charles2019-11-25T00:00:00Z
  • Saskia’s place perfectly charming, amazingly located and surrounded by everything you might need. Thoroughly recommend it to anyone visiting the area.

  • This is a truely amazing stay. The house takes you back hundreds of years in history. All so incredibly and beautifully maintained by Chris and Margaret. The hospitality could not be topped. Really enjoyed the most splendid log fire and a fantastic breakfast in the very authentic breakfast room. Will definitely recommend to friends and come back very soon.

  • You will not be disappointed! The most delightful rooms with lots of character. Little extra touches everywhere. A breakfast to die for and warm friendly unflappable hosts. It is the second time my partner and I have stayed here and we will be back next year on our annual Alton Towers adventure!

    Tiggi2019-10-30T00:00:00Z
  • I had an absolutely superb stay with Chris and Margaret at Manor House Farm. The surrounding countryside is stunning, and the farm house itself was amazing - very old and beautifully cared for, so welcoming and warm! I loved having the use of the sitting room and log fire of an evening! My room was so cozy and comfortable and clean. The bed was really comfy, shower hot and towels fluffy. I had one of the best night's sleep there I can remember. The internet reception was great, although I didn't have much phone reception (which to be honest was a plus for a short break!) Chris and Margaret were very communicative and friendly, and so helpful in planning activities for the day. Breakfast was such a treat! All cooked to order, top quality and delicious. I only wish I could have stayed longer! :-)

  • A lovely house in a great little village. Alison was an excellent host, I was a little awkward in changing my arrival time more than once and this was accommodated for with no bother. My room was very clean and comfortable and I slept great. Tea, coffee and fresh milk were available in my room. Good value for money and I would happily stay again and recommend others.

    Robert2020-02-02T00:00:00Z

  • We stayed with Alison during our visit to Alton Towers. The location is fantastic, and extremely good value. The stand out though was how accomodating and friendly Alison is. She was very kind and helpful and a pleasure to meet. The house was cosy and comfortable, and very clean. We will definitely be back.

    Daniel2019-11-02T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed at Alison's place for 2 nights during our visit to Alton Towers. As they say: Location Location Location. It is only located only 3 minutes from the park gates by car. Everything from checkin to checkout went so smooth. Prior to booking we had a few questions and Alison was always quick to answer. We very much recommend this place. The house is spotless clean and Alison is a great host. Not to mention very comfortable bed. All in all it is a 5 star rating:)

    Maciej2019-11-01T00:00:00Z

  • Kelly’s cottage is absolutely lovely, in a very quaint and picturesque area, well serviced by good local pubs. Kelly was a fantastic host, responding to requests promptly and being really considerate and accommodating (including of a change in check in time). We’d highly recommend staying at Kelly’s place, particularly if you’re visiting Alton Towers.

  • Located in the picturesque village of Alton, 'Glenrock' is a charmingly comfy cottage & the perfect bolthole for exploring the area; indeed, we took full advantage of Kelly's recommendations (Alton Bridge, Ramblers Retreat) & enjoyed a very pleasant amble through Dimmingsdale Valley - we hope to return!

    Matthew2020-01-26T00:00:00Z

  • Beautiful area, lovely cosy living room and bedrooms, perfect for a couple or a small family. I went with my daughter and my dog and it was perfect! Stairs are steep but there is a handrail

    Derek2020-01-20T00:00:00Z
  • Very cozy little property, the log burner was a treat, combined with the lovely comfy sofas, it was a fantastically relaxing weekend. The beds were comfortable and the bathroom toasty warm thanks to the excellent underfloor heating. The walk along the disused railway line was particularly relaxing. The village itself is lacking in amenities however so be sure to bring with you anything you may need.

  • Just returned home from a 3 night stay. The house is lovely and clean and has everything you need. The local area is beautiful and there are lots of local walks right from the front door. Chained Oak Farm is located directly opposite Alton Towers theme park and is set in its own grounds of 24 acres of woodland. The Lodge overlooks the churnet valley; the views are magnificent designated as 'an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty'.
The wooden Lodge is a really unique and exciting place to stay! You have your own space with an under cover sitting area, fire pit next to a pond and a cosy wooden finished room with an en-suite bathroom! There is a fridge and bbq for your use.
Pubs, walking, endless countryside, wildlife, great for star gazing, Alton towers, Alton castle, edge of the Peak District, football/croquet lawn
  • An amazing little lodge! We arrived and Liz directed us to the lodge even though she wasn’t home. A beautiful little place to stay with a fire pit. It was mine and my boyfriends first getaway together and couldn’t have spent it anywhere better! We missed breakfast on the first morning and left the place looking rather untidy as we woke up late. When we arrived back after being at Alton Towers for the day, Liz had been in and tidied everything away and made the bed for us. I wasn’t expecting this at all but it was lovely to come back after an exhausting day and just relax. We got the fire pit going and spent most of the night next to it

    Eleanor2020-03-09T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing host, accomodation set in the beautiful countryside and a minutes drive from Alton towers. The breakfast was from local produce and one of the best I've had. Would definitely recommend to anyone visiting Alton towers

  • Amazing host. Treated Hayley and I like family. Great cabin, it was faultless. Cabin itself had everything we needed. The farm had plenty of extras. Liz is the perfect host

    Ainsley2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • Our second stay at the fab cabin. Lovely, peaceful and warm, even in this awful weather! Will come back again for the summer :)

    Jess2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • We can not fault our experience! Liz was an excellent host and provided just the right amount of ‘hosting’ to ensure our trip was a success. On arrival, Liz shares her excellent local knowledge and we were soon on our way (down the footpath) to the local tea shop The Ramblers Retreat, which had the best outside seating space I’ve ever seen - never mind the tasty brownies and gingerbread lattes. The cabin its self was pristinely clean and tidy and is set beside a beautiful pond area and rolling hillside which makes for relaxing sitting for seeing the evening in. The bathroom is well equipped and the water is hot! The bedroom was lovely and warm and we didn’t even need to put the electric blanket on (and we visited in feb!). We had a Chinese takeaway on the first night and Liz was really helpful with her suggestions and selection of menus. We are in the garden/breakfast room and Liz kindly provided us with plates and cutlery - and cleared away the mess! Thanks!! The lounge was available throughout our stay, which had a roaring open fire, seating and a TV with many DVDs to choose from. Breakfast in the morning was top quality with full English, fruit, yoghurts and cereals, and Liz again went above and beyond to ensure we had tried traditional Staffordshire oat cakes before we left - they were fab! Thank you Liz for a wonderful stay at the Chained Oak; we had a great stay and will be visiting again soon.

    Amy2020-02-22T00:00:00Z
  • An amazing stay. Beautiful cabin finished with thoughtful touches and very clean. Breakfast was also amazing and with lovely hosts. Short walk to a couple of lovely pubs for food and drinks on the night. Will definitely be back in the summer months!

Our Wooden Lodge with Hot Tub is in Dimmingsdale forest the surroundings are beautiful and peaceful. There is lots to do like rock climbing the Churnet valley Boulders, Eating and drinking at the 5 pubs of Alton. Walking the staffordshire way or exploring the many forest tracks on your doorstep. You may want a fun packed day at Alton Towers park or spa. Cook on the BBQ, sit on your tree swing or relax in our new Hot Tub or toast marshmallows on your fire pit and listen to the owls hoot.
The lodge is luxury glamping and has 1 bedroom and 1 shower room and 1 kitchen lounge area with log burner and DVD player, Books and Games. There is a ladder to the second sleeping area. The Lodge is best suited to 2 adults or 2 adults with their 2 children because the second bed is up the ladder in the eaves and is off the lounge. It is like a large bunk bed, so adults might find it a bit cramped sleeping in the eaves bed. Outside you have a large covered veranda with table and chairs, Charbroil 4 burner infrared gas BBQ with side burner, which can cook a Christmas Turkey, Lounge chairs and a garden area with a fire pit, tree swing and New for December 2018 a Wood fired Hot Tub.
The farm is situated up a private lane on the Staffordshire way foot path. It is very peaceful and the walking is beautiful. You can save on parking charges and walk the beautiful walk to Alton Towers in 25mins. The area has fantastic mountain biking and rock climbing.
  • Great countryside escape. Hosts were very welcoming and helpful. We had a great time.

  • Sally and Andy are wonderful hosts who were always available if needed, but never imposed. Their lodge is lovely with lots of homely touches. It’s the perfect place to relax in beautiful country settings. The surrounding woodland provides plenty of opportunity for walking, and Alton has a number of nice places for a drink or evening meal. The hot tub is perfect for relaxing and enjoying the beautiful surroundings. I would highly recommend to anyone looking for a relaxing break in peaceful surroundings.

    Daniel2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • We had a brilliant weekend here! It was just the escape we both needed. We walked into Alton and had lunch at the Ramblers Retreat (a gem) but spent the rest of the time by the fire relaxing or tucked up in bed as the heated blanket made it so cosy! We found the wood fired hot tub hard to get heated on the Friday, so on the Saturday Andy helped us out which was great and once we were in, it stayed hot for AGES! The cabin's location makes it perfect for a weekend away by the forest. Tip from us: pack minimally as storage space is minimal. If we returned, we'd try the summer so that we can make the most of the lovely outdoor space and BBQ, but we managed using just the induction hob which is a really good idea for places like this. We loved our winter weekend here. Thanks Sally and Andy (and your lovely dogs!) x

    Helen2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • We visited with our two children and we all absolutely loved our stay. The place was just big enough for a short break, the kids loved the loft bedroom aspect and the hot tub worked perfectly well. Initially we thought that the hot tub would take a few attempts but it was very easy to get going and doesn't take long to heat up. The apartment was clean and had everything you need. The views are stunning and there is plenty to explore. We had lunch at the Ramblers Retreat followed by a good long walk. We would highly recommend this host and we will be coming back! Thank you Sally and Andy xx

    Aliyaa2020-02-21T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing views and an amazing space. Sally and Andy were amazing hosts and answered every question we had! Seriously recommend this place and will definitely be rushing back!

    Millie2020-02-06T00:00:00Z
  • A beautiful, cosy, comfortable lodge situated in perfect countryside. Great for walks with the dog, or children. Andy and Sally were wonderful hosts who were happy to help. Thank you for a great stay.

    Rob2020-01-21T00:00:00Z
  • We had a lovely weekend stay at Sally and Andy’s lodge. We were a bit nervous about finding it but we were given great instructions so managed not to get lost on the way there. We especially liked the hot tub, it took a bit of time to get it lit in the wind / dark / rain but we followed the instructions and it warmed up really nicely - it was a bonus that we could use it in the rain. Would definitely recommend the ramblers retreat for some lunch - it’s not a long walk down the road and through the trees. We also had a lovely meal at the Bulls Head in Alton which isn’t a long drive away. The communication was great despite sally and Andy not being around for the weekend, they were still on hand to answer any questions which we really appreciated. The lodge is positioned really well so that you’re tucked away enough to feel like you’re getting some privacy but close enough to the main house should you need anything. The only thing I would say is that it was the perfect size for us (just two people) but if you were planning on staying as a four it might be a bit of a squeeze. Overall a lovely place that we would definitely recommend to couples looking for a cosy weekend away :)

The house is set in a lovely peaceful location in Oakamoor, Staffordshire. A local pub and some great walks are only a stone throw away. Alton Towers is no more than a 5 minute drive away.
  • Great stay at Robb’s, great location, we were staying to visit Alton Towers which was just 4 mins away, perfect! Had the place to ourselves so didn’t get to meet our host, but plenty of communication kept us in the loop with instructions etc. Would definitely stay again.

  • A wonderful house and great location for anyone visiting Alton Towers. Great communication with host. Clean and comfortable. A great place to stay and nothing is too much trouble. We were even offered breakfast. Thank you so much.

  • FANTASTIC location for Alton Towers!! My daughter & I stayed here while we visited Alton towers & the water park. It’s just a stone throw away. The house is lovely & big, very quite, pretty village. Room was big, clean, cosy & warm. We didn’t get the chance to explore, but there seemed to be some lovely places to visit. Would highly recommend

  • Lovely room and the perfect location for a trip to Aton Towers.

    Emma2019-10-18T00:00:00Z
  • We really enjoyed our stay, the house is really beautiful. Little one loved all the toys in the living room and had an amazing time. It was really easy to find and literally 5min drive from Alton Towers. We haven’t met Robbert as he couldn’t make to meet us but left us clear notes of where everything is and how all works. The only downside we had was that we ordered takeaway from Cheadle Pizza place and we had hair in the food so do not get the food from there.

    Evelina2019-10-11T00:00:00Z
  • I stayed here for the night before a day at Alton Towers and had a lovely time. Robb was very quick to answer my questions on how to get to the house and had wonderful tips on local eateries.

    Brian2019-10-03T00:00:00Z
  • A truly wonderful place

    Esther2019-09-22T00:00:00Z
  • A really great stay. Perfectly located for trips to Alton Towers. Robbert was helpful and accommodating from the start. He helpfully put in an additional mattress for the room. He was sadly away when we stayed allowing us use of the lounge which was an added bonus. I highly recommend Robbert's place.

The Parlour is a luxury Shepherd's Hut looking out onto the Churnet Valley in Staffordshire. Set in eleven acres of organic farmland, there are walks and cycle paths on your doorstep. If adrenalin is what you seek then despite our peaceful location, we are a only a couple of miles from Alton Towers. The lovely market town of Ashbourne, the gateway to the Peak District, is twenty minutes away.
Welcome to Greenacres! We're Tessa and David, and we live in our family's farmhouse set in the middle of 11 acres of organic pasture on the edge of the small country village of Denstone, Staffordshire. The land has been farmed for centuries, and Tessa's family has been here since the middle of the 19th century. We are 10 minutes from Alton Towers, close to Ashbourne and the Peak District, and a short walk from the centre of the village.
Greenacres is set in the midst of 11 acres of organic grassland pasture, and there's a lovely view of the trees of the Churnet Valley and the Weaver Hills from the Victorian swing hanging from the nearby old Ash tree. A countryside location but only a couple of miles from Alton Towers. If you are a lover of the night, you will really enjoy our dark skies. There are no street lights around us, and on dark nights the skies are brilliant with stars. It's certainly a good place to bring a pair of binoculars and go stargazing in the garden. Greenacres is 5 minutes walk from the middle of Denstone village, and about 100 yards down a private track across the fields from the B5032 road from Denstone to Alton; parking is off-road in our large courtyard.
  • Our stay surpassed our expectations, loved how they ensured we had everything we needed, had a pan for everything, the little flowers were a lovely touch 🥰 everything from Salt&pepper and cooking oil to tea, sugar and ground coffee 😋 the folder of hints and tips was very helpful, thank you for a lovely stay

  • Thank you so much for having us! The hut is beautiful. It was clean and thoughtfully designed. All the information provided in the guestbook was extremely helpful. We loved all the small touches, the flowers, the radio and the games. Jack particularly enjoyed the fire! Would highly recommend.

  • Great value for money, love unique experience

    George2019-08-11T00:00:00Z
  • David and Tessa’s place has by far been our favorite Airbnb experience—and we’ve stayed in A LOT of Airbnb’s, so that’s saying something. Not only is the Shepard’s hut incredibly cute, very clean, and well equipped, but David and Tessa themselves are wonderful and went above and beyond in so many ways. David even provided us with numerous tips for our trip to Scotland (our destination after Denstone). The scenery surrounding the hut is so peaceful and my husband and I had so much fun playing cards outside while their sweet dog kept us company. We would happily come back to Denstone just to stay in their lovely Shepard’s hut again and have the perfect little getaway.

  • We enjoyed a wonderful stay in an idyllic location.

    Darran2018-07-14T00:00:00Z
  • My friend and I stayed for 2 nights mid week. Tessa and Dave were the perfect hosts. They were friendly and accommodating and couldn’t do enough to make our stay as pleasant as possible. The shepherds hut was comfortable, immaculate and beautifully decorated. We really appreciated Tessa and Dave’s attention to detail such as the vase of fresh flowers on the table and having the shepherds hut stocked with milk, tea and coffee. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and hope to go back.

  • Beautifully finished and immaculately clean accommodation, fantastic hosts and so very helpful. The location is just perfect to explore the area and also could not be any better for going to Alton Towers. Highly recommended for a couple or a family.

  • This place is just idyllic! Gorgeous views, warm welcome, a very stylish and comfortable space, with everything you could need for your stay. Russell and Jeanette were wonderful and friendly hosts, checking in to make sure things were good and if we needed anything. The location is fantastic too. We went to splash landings at alton towers, the churnet valley railway and ashbourne during our break, all within 20 mins of where the accommodation was. We loved it and would happily return again.

  • Lovely accommodation, everything was perfect. Thank you

    Natalie2020-01-06T00:00:00Z
  • I would definitely recommend this place to stay! It's very stylish inside, but very comfortable too. Beds are comfortable and the kitchen and bathroom very nice and easy to use. Good TV upstairs and the WiFi worked well for us. Plenty of space for four of us and good sofas for the evening time. Russell was delightful too, very responsive and helpful when making arrangements beforehand and very friendly greeting us all on arrival and helping us get settled, but then leaving us be unless we needed anything (we did, and he was very helpful with that!) The house is next to a road but traffic noise wasn't a problem, and out the back is a great view of fields which you can walk into. Russell told us about a good walk which we enjoyed, great to be able to do that from the house (with OS map provided!) In conclusion, definitely choose this place if you're considering it!

    Phil2020-01-01T00:00:00Z
  • We had a brilliant stay here! Lovely spot for walks, would highly recommend walking on the old railway towards Alton to the ramblers retreat for lunch, thank you Russell for suggesting this! Some lovely villages nearby, the house itself was a great place the fresh eggs and mince pies were a great touch, fabulous host thank you very much!

  • Had a wonderful weekend here. Place has everything you need, including a dishwasher. They even left a lovely little touch for my husband's birthday. Plenty of local suggestions from Joseph and is very close to Alton Towers. Hot tub was great, although you're only allocated a 45 minute space per day and it's only open from 5-10pm so more ideal for those who are out and about during the day, rather than just a place to relax all day. Would highly recommend and will hopefully be back at some point!

  • I stayed in Rebecca for a 2 day trip to Alton Towers. The apartment was beautifully clean and so comfortable. We had everything we could need and Joseph the host was very helpful and hospitable. The grounds are gorgeous, well manicured garden areas, and the hot tub/sauna area is really lovely and clean. Would highly recommend if visiting the area

  • Amazing host, great location and very clean & comfortable accommodation. Joseph was very friendly and humble and made us feel very welcome upon our first meet and throughout the duration of our stay. Just a few minutes drive away from Alton Towers made this location perfect for us and the neighbourhood is very peaceful, calm and quiet. The accommodation itself is very well equipped and cosy, we also had some small treats left for us ( hot crossed buns & mini chocolate eggs ) which we felt was a nice added touch of generosity to our easter break. The Jacuzzi & Sauna was also very well maintained and we were able to book our own time slot which gave us some privacy whilst using these facilities. Would recommend Joseph & Alisons accommodation to all :) 10/10 thanks

Ball field to play in, Children's play area, Great views of Weaver Hills, Public footpaths to villages, Animals including Alpacas, Free Range Hens, Sheep and Oscar the Dog. My place is good for couples, families (with kids), and big groups. Group of three cottages so ideal for family groups.

The main open plan kitchen/living area contains a fully equipped kitchen with everything needed to cook complete meals including a fridge, freezer, oven, hob and microwave. There are two sofas providing comfortable seating in addition to a dining table and chairs which can be pulled out for meal times. The pub was in an easy walking distance (do book if you want to eat there as gets busy) and good location for plenty of sightseeing in the area. Would definitely recommend.

  • The log cabin was to dieeee for! Such an amazing building with amazing decor. Everything was superb and was definitely better than we thought it would be. We were gifted with a bottle of red wine which was very kind. I’m already looking to book again. Amazing value for money.

  • Alton forest lodge was incredible. The facilities were superb and the countryside was lovely. We will be returning.

  • Far surpassed any expectations I had. With there being quite a few of us I expected to feel a bit crammed in, how wrong I was!! it was very spacious and looked brand new, there were loads of quirky books and games around to keep us entertained and the location was perfect! It was so peaceful around and the hot tub was great at night with a lovely view of the stars. We went on a walk in the forest and found a rope which was pretty fun and walked down one of the trails to a lake. I will definitely be coming back here for years to come!!

  • I am reluctant to tell the world how lovely this place is in case I can't book again myself! If you like remote but stunning settings, this is for you! Luxury accommodation in a tranquil area which we thoroughly enjoyed despite wet weather. Comfy beds, well kitted out rooms and a luxurious hot tub too! Will definitely be returning 👍

Keepers Cottage was converted from its previous use as a log store and pig sty by ourselves some twenty years ago. What we have achieved is to offer an up to date quality cottage while maintaining all the old world charm so often lost in barn conversions. The downstairs 4 poster bedroom has a modern shower room next door while upstairs there is a double or twin bedroom with ensuite bath. The main living area is open plan with Sofas, Log burner and TV. Main cooking area and rustic dining table.
While the cottage is ideal for families it can also be perfect for two doubles or twin usage. Also ideal for walkers or just a truly relaxing away from it all break
Keepers Cottage is ideal for exploring both the Peak District and local Stately Homes while being only 18 miles from the world famous Potteries. Alton Towers Theme Park is only 3 miles away
  • Such a lovely cottage in a really peaceful and relaxing setting. It was our second visit and we hope to stay again in the future.

    Sarah2019-11-25T00:00:00Z
  • What a wonderful place. Such character. Especially loved the fire and the four poster bed.

    Ben2019-11-17T00:00:00Z
  • The Keepers Cottage is a true little treasure. The picture's really don't do it justice. The cottage is full of character and charm, from original doors to the four poster bed and the lovely fireplace. We ended up arriving a little later than planned but Chris was great and responded to messages very quickly, along with easy to follow instructions on how to get to the property. We were provided with tea, coffee, sugar and milk in the very stylish kitchen, along with coal and kindling for the fire. It was the perfect weekend getaway spot in the countryside, to relax and reset. Could not recommend this place enough! Hope to stay again very soon.

We got to play with the goats and other animals. I would highly recommend staying here the location is 5min drive from Alton towers.

  • This was a great place for a relaxing stopover. Everything I needed was there with a great nights sleep in a comfy bed. Russell and Janette are welcoming and very helpful. A good workspace was available with WiFi. Also the friendly animals in a lovely setting were a bonus. Would 100% recommend anyone to stay. Thank you 👍

Old Castle Inn is a wonderful old converted pub with gothic / architectural features. It was built using the stones of the nearby Alton Castle and situated in the centre of the beautiful village of Alton, close to the Peak District and just a mile away from Alton Towers Theme park.
All the house available to guests.
Alton is a beautiful village on the edge of the Peak District with superb walks right from the doorstep. There are 4 pubs in walking distance, 3 of which offer excellent food, and plenty more in the neighbouring villages. The best restaurant is directly over the road. Alton has a post office and late opening Londis at the end of the street.
  • The Old Castle Inn at Alton is the most beautiful home with an enormous amount of character and perfect place for family and friends to stay. With 5 bedrooms plus extra beds that can be made up, it has plenty of room and has all the amenities that you need. From a fully equipped kitchen, wood burning stoves already made up, extremely comfy beds and lots and lots of toys and games to keep both children and adults amused, you really cannot ask for more. The area is very pretty with plenty of walks and a number of pubs that serve excellent food.....but do book in advance!!!!! Gabrielle is a first class host and I cannot praise her enough. Always quick to reply to any questions, she really did make sure that we were welcomed into her home and that our time there was her number one priority. I cannot recommend The Old Castle Inn highly enough and hope to come back for another stay soon.

    Philippa2020-02-03T00:00:00Z
  • The house is beautiful and quirky. The local area is very pretty with plenty to explore too. There's loads of space to sleep 12/15 people too over 5 rooms and the landing space. But the downstairs main table only seat at a push 8 people. Though there is an additional table in the kitchen. Gabrielle was very helpful leaving loads of tips and advice. I would definitely go back.

    Hannah2020-01-05T00:00:00Z
  • Great house. Enjoyed our stay. Plenty of room and some lovely features. Excellent communication from host.

    Orders2019-11-01T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing host. Was always available. Had a slight issue with d Bedding on the first night but Gabbi was at the other end of the phone sorting everything out. Told us where to find the extra bedding and apologied for it not being ready. Supplied soap, washing up things and tea and coffee (we brought our own just in case)) shop is just down the road.. Literally 3 doors down. Parking wasn't an issue. Easy access to Alton Towers. Lots of space.

    Alice2019-10-13T00:00:00Z
  • Truly a fantastic space, as others said the photos can't do it justice. Spacious, with new things to find everytime you look around. Very cozy and comfortable with every amenity you'd need. Nine of us stayed but never felt crowded and the one shower was not a problem given there were three bathrooms. Highly recommended the farm shop in denstone which is just 5 minutes drive away.

    Callum2019-09-30T00:00:00Z
  • Great place to explore Alton and big house with lots of interesting touches and plenty of space.

    Alan2019-09-08T00:00:00Z
  • Brilliant place for family groups, so much for kids to do inside the house as well as locally. Great hosting from Gabrielle, helpful and clear communication. Locals seemed to know this is a holiday house and were polite enough to ask us how we liked Alton as they were passing. Very friendly village and lovely walks to be had close by. Would love to come back.

  • Fabulous house just a few minutes drive from Alton Towers. We were a large group of 4 adults and 7 kids and there was plenty of room for us all. Cooked and ate with ease in the well equipped kitchen and enjoyed a glass of wine in the pretty garden. Everything you need is here - a real home from home and super convenient for the shop & pub.

The Dairy is situated on our small-holding. Home to us, our dog, cats, cows, chickens & pigs. Situated on the edge of Alton we are only 2 miles from Alton Towers and have a path down into Dimmingsdale. The Dairy has far reaching views across the stunning countryside. It consists of a large open plan living, cooking, eating and sleeping area plus separate bedroom and bathroom. It boasts a private south facing garden plus access to the field from which you can spot Smiler through the tree tops.
Shepherds Stand Farm is a 9 acre small holding. We are found on the outskirts of Alton village giving the Dairy a peaceful setting. Our elevated position means that there are stunning views across the local countryside. This is a great area for families, walkers, cyclists and being 10 miles from Stoke great for pottery fanatics. Being on a small holding guests get access to lots of outdoor space and opportunity to meet our friendly animals.
Alton is a lovely village with several pubs, a village shop and post office as well as being home to Alton Towers Theme Park. There are several pleasant cafes within a couple of miles and the towns of Ashbourne, Uttoxeter and Cheadle only a short drive away. We are on the edge of the Peak District as well as being on the doorstep of Dimmingsdale so we are well positioned for walkers and cyclists.

  • Katie and Nathan's place is very picturesque. You will wake up to cows and chickens on your doorstep which would be very exciting for children (and some adults). The place has a very hygge feel about it. The hosts were very accommodating and provided an extra camp bed for us. They were quick to respond to any questions we had and also helped us with finding the place when we arrived. Short drive to Alton Towers, so a great location for visiting there.

We can offer a delightful double room, with ensuite shower room. The room is spacious and on the ground floor of our barn conversion offering excellent privacy. Our place is close to The Peak District National Park, the town of Ashbourne is 5 miles away and 8 miles to the market town of Uttoxeter, we are also only 10 minutes from Alton Towers. A small bed within the room can be provided for a third person (child) at an extra cost of £10 per night.
  • Kevin & Lesley were outstanding hosts, from arrival to departure they ensured that myself and my partner had everything that we needed to enjoy a wonderful stay in their home. They were both easy to get along with and with their local knowledge of restaurants left us with ample choice of places to eat. Their guest quarters are spacious & stylish, giving us access to amenities it felt like home away from home. We sadly did not get to keep their dogs as much as my partner would have gladly taken them home overall great hosts and we could not have asked for a better stay.

    Andrew2019-07-28T00:00:00Z
  • Me and my partner spent 2 nights at this amazing barn conversion located in a beautiful and quiet little village. Everything about their home was amazing and the hosts (Kevin and Lesley) couldn’t have done more for us. Breakfast was delightful, with fresh fruits, croissants, yogurts, cereal etc being prepared each morning. About 5 mins away from the barn was a local pub called the Duncombe arms, which although was a bit pricey, served amazing food. Alton towers is only a 10 minute drive away, which me and my partner visited so we could act like a couple of kids for the weekend....and we did lol. I would 100% recommend this amazing barn conversion to anyone looking to stay within this area :-)

  • We had an amazing 2 night stay at this beautiful barn conversion situated in a stunning location. Within walking distance was a fantastic village pub where we both enjoyed a lovely meal. Breakfast was delightful and couldn’t have asked more from our hosts Kevin and Lesley. Would 100% recommended to anyone looking to stay within this area.

  • A lovely home, extremely welcoming hosts that went above and beyond to cater for us and great location for a little getaway. It was especially appreciated how they gave us the use of the living room for a movie and the kitchen for accompanying nibbles, really felt at home.

    Ed2019-06-16T00:00:00Z
  • Fabulous place in a quiet village. Communication was good, directions accurate, and a warm welcome from the hosts. I was made to feel welcome, printed maps and directions for walks on my arrival, and a comfortable room. Although it was June, the weather was grey and damp, so a fire was lit especially for me for when I got back from having dinner at the pub. Lovely lounge all to myself, plenty of room to relax. For breakfast a most splendid fresh fruit platter, and freshly cooked croissants! Lovely, friendly, thoughtful hosts. Would recommend!

    Tanya2019-06-15T00:00:00Z
  • Kevin and Lesley are very generous hosts. The room was beautiful and comfortable. They very kindly let us use their living room with an amazing log fire. Breakfast was very generous. They gave us local tips about where to have supper. The local area is beautiful and relaxing. Altogether our stay exceeded our expectations. Thank you.

  • Beautiful spot, excellent hospitality. Log burner was great in the cold nights. Yurt stood up to the strong winds of the storm whilst we were tucked up in bed. The marshmallows on the fire pit just completed the whole experiences would highly recommend.

  • Loved the area!

  • Myself, my boyfriend and our dog stayed here for 2 nights. There is a lot of equipment provided such as kitchen equipment (all in a cute little shed with a lock so can lock food and store food safely), there is a grill inside this shed and a BBQ outside as well as a fire pit. The tent is cosy and peaceful, and there are some games and books but I would recommend to bring some others if you wanted. The decoration and bedding is lovely, however the bed is quite small which is fine for me but was quite small for my partner. Sally and Andy were very helpful when we had an issue with the fairy lights and just wanted to make sure we had everything we needed, we felt well looked after. The shower and toilet facilities are shared with the other lodge and yurt near by; both toilet and shower were clean and nicely decorated and hot water came quickly. The plug in the toilet cubicle doesn’t work so be mindful of that. I would recommend bringing your own power bank/ mobile power bank as we ended up using phones/ speakers which needed recharging. Also try to remember it is still camping so torches, firewood and your own blankets to take outside would be good to bring with you. Overall we had a great stay, thank you very much Sally and Andy :) x

  • Me and my girlfriend had an amazing time during our weekend here, we stayed in the tent which is really nice and very comfortable, the shower/toilet pod and catering facilities are clean & tidy and very well equipped, plenty of info is provided on things to do in the area and great hospitality from hosts who seem to have thought of pretty much every little thing needed to make this a perfect place for a peaceful, cozy getaway in the countryside

    Paddy2019-08-04T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing! Peaceful and relaxing! Great location and amenities. Perfect escape from the world in a bit of camping luxury. We hit bad weather and the log burner saved the weekend! Perfect! July 2019

  • Was a great location, was nice to get back to after visiting Alton towers each day. It’s a lovely walk to and from the park. Directions were good and the welcome booklet had lots of info about local pubs and things to do! The yurt was clean and comfortable and the kitchen was also clean and we used it each day.

    James2019-10-20T00:00:00Z
  • A beautiful yurt perfectly situated in the Oakamoor landscape. Warm and welcoming hosts, lovely facilities. I honestly couldn't ask for more.

    Mary2019-10-13T00:00:00Z
  • Would highly recommend a break in the Yurt. Everything you need is there for a relaxing stay, enjoying the great walking or just sat round the fire pit roasting marshmallows. We followed Sallys' advice with walk to Alton for the day through some spectacular woodland and finding the Ramblers Retreat tucked away on route which was perfect for breakfast. Thank you for a great weekend in your beautiful Yurt. Think we'll have to try the pod next time :-)

    Stuart2019-09-15T00:00:00Z
  • Great spot with very well equipped yurt. We ended up cooking there every night as we enjoyed it so much. beautiful area and great facilities.

    Ellie2019-08-28T00:00:00Z
  • We have just returned home from a lovely couple of nights in the Yurt. It was everything we expected and had all the amenities that we needed. The little private kitchen area was ideal to cook breakfast and having your own BBQ was a great touch and we enjoyed a lovely BBQ on the second night. Even though Sally and Andy were away on holiday, we were well looked after. Fantastic location and our 8yr old loved being outside looking at the animals and playing with the farm dogs. He didn’t look at this iPad once! Totally recommend this and if you have a group of you, this would be ideal as you have the Yurt, Bell Tent, Pod and Lodge all close by, but not too close. Loved it and will definitely come back :-)

    Karl2019-08-25T00:00:00Z
  • Thank you both again for making our stay very special and for the amazing hospitality. Would highly recommend to others!

    Adam2019-06-28T00:00:00Z
  • We have had such a lovely, welcoming, cosy stay at Sally and Andy's yurt. Glamping was fun!! It was perfect for our family of three. We really enjoyed the firepit on the first night (toasting marshmallows!) but then the weather got a bit cold and wet - didn't bother us at all though. The yurt is so cosy and the small inside fireplace really warmed things up so quickly and comfortably. Everything was very clean and the toilet/shower and kitchen huts were perfect. We felt so welcomed and so at home. We'd love to stay again for sure!

  • Wonderful host, Joseph couldn’t have been more helpful or friendly. Elizabeth accommodation was very spacious, warm and with the added pleasure of the hot tub/sauna. Stayed for a weekend at Alton Towers, great location and easy to get to. The beds are super comfy, best night sleep I’ve had in years! Thank you again!

  • Friendly couple running the place. Got there. Was very clean. Easy to find and facilities were all there as mentioned. Hot tub was good. The suite was nice, clean, spacious and modern

  • We had such a wonderful stay here. We were visiting Alton Towers and this was a great place to head back to. Being so close allowed us to ride till park close and know we'd be at our home from home in 15 minutes. Perfect. The hot tub was such a treat after a busy day of walking round the park and was took a quick trip to the Tavern where we had a drink and some yummy sweet potato chips. The shower was really lovely and there were plenty of towels provided. The kids really enjoyed the mini cereal boxes and the hot chocolate :) Rooms had good black out blinds which helped us all sleep well. We had a warm and helpful welcome and Joseph was on hand to help with anything we needed (though we were out most of the time). Would definitely recommend for an Alton Towers break, or to enjoy the local area (which we didn't have enough time to enjoy, but looked beautiful).

    Richard2019-05-26T00:00:00Z
  • Very clean accommodation, easy check-in and good location. The breakfast baskets were a nice touch and the hot tub was brill! A great price too.

    Justine2019-05-12T00:00:00Z
  • Great place to stay. Lots of little touches like the welcome pack (milk, cereal etc). Sparkling clean. Kids loved the hot tub and the disco lights were an added bonus. Very handy for Alton Towers and the local farm shop does a lovely breakfast!

    Anne2019-04-20T00:00:00Z
  • The location is great - either for Alton Towers (10 minutes drive up the road), the Peak District (30 mins the other way), Stoke, Uttoxeter, and more. Denstone is small, but has shops, restaurants, and more. And Dominos will deliver! The main room is big, but contains all the beds, the sofa, desk, TV etc - so expect 1 bed-time for everyone! Shower is great, kitchen good. Hot tub and Sauna very welcome indeed. Plenty of car parking. Joseph was there to show me round, and he left milk, cereals, etc, and a full folder of what to do in the area. For me and my 2 teenage sons it was perfect for a short trip to Alton Towers and the Peak District.

    Tom2019-04-03T00:00:00Z
  • Joseph’s place was excellent. We travelled from Surrey with out two children (9 & 7) and older nephew (15). We visited in the half term and we were taking the kids to Alton Towers. The space that we paid for was a great size, with plenty of room for everyone. There was also a separate kitchen which was really handy for breakfasts in the morning before leaving and then when we returned after a long day in the park. There was also access to a hot tub, which the kids found really enjoyable as it reminded them of their grandparents house. We didn’t explore the area but looking at the informative pack of information left by the hosts there seems to be be plenty to do locally and it was literally 10 minutes a way from parking at the theme park. Great place to stay with kids.

  • We were welcomed by Joseph and taken to our lovely flat. Later we were kindly brought extra towels, so that we could take advantage of the sauna and hot tub. The flat was lovely, spotlessly clean and we provided with cereal and milk, which was great. Joseph recommended a local restaurant (Michelin star no less), so we had a wonderful meal. We would thoroughly recommend this Airbnb property. It has everything you could possibly need and more.

The accommodation is a cabin in a young woodland in the Staffordshire Moorlands 10 mins drive to Alton Towers. You would need a car as there is no shop or pub in walking distance.
The cabin is in a quiet secluded area and you will need your own transport when staying here. Nabb Lane is a single track road so please drive carefully to and from the property. The cabin is only a short drive to Alton Towers and there is an award winning farm shop and cafe close by called Denstone farm shop which we would highly recommend for breakfast or an afternoon tea. There are some lovely pubs in the village of Alton and the Tavern in Denstone and you can walk around JCB lake, admiring the ducks. Dimmingsdale is one of Staffordshire’s hidden gems, it is a haven for walkers and nature lovers, other places of interest include, Trentham Gardens, Emma Bridgwater Factory, Churnet Valley Railway, Sudbury Hall, just to name a few. The cabin has 2 bedrooms, a shower room and an open plan kitchen and lounge. The cabin is best suited for 2 adults and 2 children, however there is a sofa bed in the lounge if 6 people do wish to stay. WiFi is available at the cabin. There is also a lawned garden area with a bbq. Parking is a short walk from the cabin, trolleys are provided for carrying luggage to the cabin. You are welcome to walk the woodland within the site, there is also a small pond where you can watch the fish and the dragonflies are fantastic in the summer months. There is also a large lawned area by the car park which you can use. During your stay you have use of the log burning hot tub, we provide the logs needed for one evening and we light the hot tub for you. The hot tub takes 3 hours to heat, so it is important to inform us of your time of arrival and if you wish the hot tub to be ready for when you arrive or if you prefer us to prepare the hot tub for another day. If you would like to use the hot tub for any additional nights we are willing to call and relight the hot tub, in the early evening if we are available. There is a small charge to purchase additional logs and a fire lighting log. You must not add anything else other then the logs provided in the fire pit for the hot tub. As chemicals are not used in the hot tub and there is no filter, you must have a shower prior to entering to help keep the tub cleaner for longer, as after a day and night the water does become cloudy. If you are staying for longer than 2 nights we are willing to call and change the water so you can use the tub for another day and night. When using the hot tub it is important to adhere to the health and safety requirements, remembering to always check the water is not too hot before entering as the temperature is not regulated. Please remember your own towels for the hot tub, we provide towels for showering but not for the hot tub. Check out is strictly 11am... you will be charged an extra £50 if you do not leave by 11pm. After 12pm there will be a charge of £200 if you have not already agreed a late check out time. This is due to us having to prepare for the new arrivals. If you have an extra person who you have not booked in staying at the cabin or visiting and you have not discussed this with the owners.. You will be charged an extra £100 per night per guest. Thanks for reading.

  • We visited on a very rainy and windy weekend in Feb. This just made the whole experience even more cosy! especially in the hot tub... which provided hours of fun. Great location: relaxing inside doesn't even limit your views, through large patio style double doors and equally large side windows (not sure about my terminology ha) all you can see are trees and nature. As if on cue, a large fox casually walks by and later a pheasant! Will definitely come back for a summer visit ;)

    Paul2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • Really nice place, very private and peaceful. Hot tub was fantastic and worked really well, hosts were very friendly and we had a great time!

    Max2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • The cabin is amazing, it's secluded and quiet so you can have music on with no issues. Hot tub is amazing, but after 1 night it does get a bit cloudy (this was stated in the advert though) I would advise asking Eleanor and Matt to come round and re do the tub for a second or third night. Apart from that plenty of space and I can imagine it's amazing in the summer.

    Robert2020-01-02T00:00:00Z

Alton is 10 mins by car and a beautiful 40 minute walk away where you will find to very good gastro pubs The Alton Bridge and The Royal Oak and 4 other pubs to crawl around sampling the local ales. Please take care because the lanes approaching us are very narrow and bumpy so please drive with care.
  • Absolutely beautiful location. My friend and I travelled for Alton Towers services day. The Pod was very easy to find and is set in such a peaceful area. We generally followed the satnav and it took us right to the location. We struggled with the hot tub (only because we'd never lit a fire before) but Sally was on hand to help which saved the situation. The town of Cheadle was only 5 minutes away for any amenities and shops or takeaways. Alton Towers was also a short drive which was very beneficial after a long day of walking and being thrown around on roller-coasters. Absolutely lovely stay. Thank you Sally and Andy.

    Jess2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • A beautiful pod that is cosy and clean. The hot tub is a real treat and quite magical. There are plenty of great “dog” friendly pubs within walking distance and we would highly recommend a stay if you are looking for peaceful retreat from the hustle and bustle of daily life! The hosts were thoughtful and friendly and nothing was too much trouble. Thank you for a wonderful stay!

    Lynne2020-02-19T00:00:00Z
  • I booked the pod as a Christmas present for my husband since January is often a bit rubbish & we needed something to look forward to! It was everything I'd hoped for... a lovely little self contained hut with everything you might need, and a bonus jar of marshmallows to toast on the fire! The log burner kept the place cozy for when we returned from a long walk around the beautiful countryside! The wood fired hot tub worked brilliantly & was the best way to unwind in the evening; especially luxurious in the cold February night air. Sally & Andy are brilliant hosts, and were super understanding about an accidental breakage (which we have of course paid for!) I would not hesitate to return here, in fact, we have made it our goal to have 2 countryside retreats each year, so I'm certain we'll be back! Thank you x
