Places to stay in Alton
Our Wooden Lodge with Hot Tub is in Dimmingsdale forest the surroundings are beautiful and peaceful. There is lots to do like rock climbing the Churnet valley Boulders, Eating and drinking at the 5 pubs of Alton. Walking the staffordshire way or exploring the many forest tracks on your doorstep. You may want a fun packed day at Alton Towers park or spa. Cook on the BBQ, sit on your tree swing or relax in our new Hot Tub or toast marshmallows on your fire pit and listen to the owls hoot.
The lodge is luxury glamping and has 1 bedroom and 1 shower room and 1 kitchen lounge area with log burner and DVD player, Books and Games. There is a ladder to the second sleeping area. The Lodge is best suited to 2 adults or 2 adults with their 2 children because the second bed is up the ladder in the eaves and is off the lounge. It is like a large bunk bed, so adults might find it a bit cramped sleeping in the eaves bed. Outside you have a large covered veranda with table and chairs, Charbroil 4 burner infrared gas BBQ with side burner, which can cook a Christmas Turkey, Lounge chairs and a garden area with a fire pit, tree swing and New for December 2018 a Wood fired Hot Tub.
The farm is situated up a private lane on the Staffordshire way foot path. It is very peaceful and the walking is beautiful. You can save on parking charges and walk the beautiful walk to Alton Towers in 25mins. The area has fantastic mountain biking and rock climbing.
  • This is lovely place to stay. Sally and Andy made us feel so welcome. The hot tub was amazing and they were extremely accommodating at helping us get it started! Would 100% recommend.

  • Great countryside escape. Hosts were very welcoming and helpful. We had a great time.

  • Great communication and a perfect place to go on long walks. Peaceful place.

  • Sally and Andy are wonderful hosts who were always available if needed, but never imposed. Their lodge is lovely with lots of homely touches. It’s the perfect place to relax in beautiful country settings. The surrounding woodland provides plenty of opportunity for walking, and Alton has a number of nice places for a drink or evening meal. The hot tub is perfect for relaxing and enjoying the beautiful surroundings. I would highly recommend to anyone looking for a relaxing break in peaceful surroundings.

  • We had a brilliant weekend here! It was just the escape we both needed. We walked into Alton and had lunch at the Ramblers Retreat (a gem) but spent the rest of the time by the fire relaxing or tucked up in bed as the heated blanket made it so cosy! We found the wood fired hot tub hard to get heated on the Friday, so on the Saturday Andy helped us out which was great and once we were in, it stayed hot for AGES! The cabin's location makes it perfect for a weekend away by the forest. Tip from us: pack minimally as storage space is minimal. If we returned, we'd try the summer so that we can make the most of the lovely outdoor space and BBQ, but we managed using just the induction hob which is a really good idea for places like this. We loved our winter weekend here. Thanks Sally and Andy (and your lovely dogs!) x

  • We visited with our two children and we all absolutely loved our stay. The place was just big enough for a short break, the kids loved the loft bedroom aspect and the hot tub worked perfectly well. Initially we thought that the hot tub would take a few attempts but it was very easy to get going and doesn't take long to heat up. The apartment was clean and had everything you need. The views are stunning and there is plenty to explore. We had lunch at the Ramblers Retreat followed by a good long walk. We would highly recommend this host and we will be coming back! Thank you Sally and Andy xx

  • Amazing views and an amazing space. Sally and Andy were amazing hosts and answered every question we had! Seriously recommend this place and will definitely be rushing back!

  • A beautiful, cosy, comfortable lodge situated in perfect countryside. Great for walks with the dog, or children. Andy and Sally were wonderful hosts who were happy to help. Thank you for a great stay.

Explore the Peak District, the Potteries, Antique shops in Ashbourne, Alton Towers or walk to Dimmingsdale from the cottage. Come home to peace, quiet and a cosy wood burner or sit outside with a glass of wine in the little courtyard at the back and enjoy the birdsong.
Arrive from 4pm. Depart by 10am 3 nights minimum stay
There are many pubs in the village including The Bulls Head and The Bridge Hotel. Walk along the disused railway track from the cottage to Denstone Farm Shop for breakfast, lunch or tea and cake. Pick up a ready made meal there to take home and enjoy later in the warm cottage by the log burner. The lovingly restored Victorian Cheddleton Railway Station (near Leek) and the Churnet Valley Railway take you on a journey back to the classic days of railway travel. Treat yourself to an afternoon cream tea whilst taking in lovely scenery. Walkers can visit Dimmingsdale, walk along the old railway track in either direction from the restored Alton Station or travel on a bike along the Tissington Trail. Scenic Dovedale in The Peak District and lunch at The George in Alstonefield is a delight. Visit Haddon Hall (about 25 miles away) overlooking the River Wye with its romantic house and Elizabethan terraced gardens. Also, Wedgwood, Emma Bridgewater and Burleigh potteries are not too far away in Stoke on Trent. Ashbourne offer many historic building and antique shops. Also, Alton Towers Theme Park is just outside the village and offer much more than just the rides.
  • Wonderful cosy cottage in quiet secluded position but ideal as a base to explore The Peak District and Staffordshire. All comforts provided for and great tips on local places oven by and attentive host. Great getaway, even with the interesting weather, certainly had all seasons in 1 week. (Ciara and Dennis including snow😱🤷‍♀️) would love to return when weather improves to explore more. Thank you From Emma and Neil.

  • What a perfect haven! This is exactly the kind of place my friend and i were looking for, to get away from the chaos of the city. The cottage is beautiful. Exactly as is in the pictures but much better in real life. Spotlessly clean and will all the information about the local area you could possibly need. There was plenty of logs for the fire and very useful instructions for the first time users like myself! Saskia's communication was phenomenal, and I was given all relevant information and more, before and during the stay. The cottage itself had everything you could possibly need. Warm and cosy and totally functional. The location is perfect as simply 15min drive from Uttoexeter train station, and close to lovely pubs, local shop and beautiful scenic walks. My friend and i had the most wonderful time and we would like to thank Saskia for her beautiful home. I will be returning! lisa x

We stayed for Xmas and on arrival there was a real xmas tree beautifully decorated & lit, log burner was all filled ready to be used. Kitchen had all the homely touches & all the toiletries where fabulous. Would highly recommend staying here, its a dreamy cottage in an idyllic setting.

  • An incredible place with lots of great little touches: the fire's pre build, chocolate is left out and the styling's classic and never overbearing.

    Charles2019-11-25T00:00:00Z
  • Saskia’s place perfectly charming, amazingly located and surrounded by everything you might need. Thoroughly recommend it to anyone visiting the area.

We had plenty of space, the rooms and bathrooms were very clean and big with lots of thoughtful touches. Don’t have a thing to fault! An amazing place for a getaway from life. Shops were not far too, 12 min drive. Hosts were very helpful too.

  • The log cabin was to dieeee for! Such an amazing building with amazing decor. Everything was superb and was definitely better than we thought it would be. We were gifted with a bottle of red wine which was very kind. I’m already looking to book again. Amazing value for money.

  • Alton forest lodge was incredible. The facilities were superb and the countryside was lovely. We will be returning.

    Bekki2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • Far surpassed any expectations I had. With there being quite a few of us I expected to feel a bit crammed in, how wrong I was!! it was very spacious and looked brand new, there were loads of quirky books and games around to keep us entertained and the location was perfect! It was so peaceful around and the hot tub was great at night with a lovely view of the stars. We went on a walk in the forest and found a rope which was pretty fun and walked down one of the trails to a lake. I will definitely be coming back here for years to come!!

Luxury accommodation in a tranquil area which we thoroughly enjoyed despite wet weather. Comfy beds, well kitted out rooms and a luxurious hot tub too! Will definitely be returning 👍

Kelly was a fantastic host, responding to requests promptly and being really considerate and accommodating (including of a change in check in time). We’d highly recommend staying at Kelly’s place, particularly if you’re visiting Alton Towers.

Old Castle Inn is a wonderful old converted pub with gothic / architectural features. It was built using the stones of the nearby Alton Castle and situated in the centre of the beautiful village of Alton, close to the Peak District and just a mile away from Alton Towers Theme park.
All the house available to guests.
Alton is a beautiful village on the edge of the Peak District with superb walks right from the doorstep. There are 4 pubs in walking distance, 3 of which offer excellent food, and plenty more in the neighbouring villages. The best restaurant is directly over the road. Alton has a post office and late opening Londis at the end of the street.
  • Gabbi is an exceptional host, she gave great info on everything Alton had to offer and we had a fantastic stay. The house is beautiful, perfect for large families, and I can’t wait for our next trip there.

    Rachel2020-03-22T00:00:00Z
  • The Old Castle Inn at Alton is the most beautiful home with an enormous amount of character and perfect place for family and friends to stay. With 5 bedrooms plus extra beds that can be made up, it has plenty of room and has all the amenities that you need. From a fully equipped kitchen, wood burning stoves already made up, extremely comfy beds and lots and lots of toys and games to keep both children and adults amused, you really cannot ask for more. The area is very pretty with plenty of walks and a number of pubs that serve excellent food.....but do book in advance!!!!! Gabrielle is a first class host and I cannot praise her enough. Always quick to reply to any questions, she really did make sure that we were welcomed into her home and that our time there was her number one priority. I cannot recommend The Old Castle Inn highly enough and hope to come back for another stay soon.

    Philippa2020-02-03T00:00:00Z
  • The house is beautiful and quirky. The local area is very pretty with plenty to explore too. There's loads of space to sleep 12/15 people too over 5 rooms and the landing space. But the downstairs main table only seat at a push 8 people. Though there is an additional table in the kitchen. Gabrielle was very helpful leaving loads of tips and advice. I would definitely go back.

  • Great house. Enjoyed our stay. Plenty of room and some lovely features. Excellent communication from host.

  • Amazing host. Was always available. Had a slight issue with d Bedding on the first night but Gabbi was at the other end of the phone sorting everything out. Told us where to find the extra bedding and apologied for it not being ready. Supplied soap, washing up things and tea and coffee (we brought our own just in case)) shop is just down the road.. Literally 3 doors down. Parking wasn't an issue. Easy access to Alton Towers. Lots of space.

    Alice2019-10-13T00:00:00Z
  • Truly a fantastic space, as others said the photos can't do it justice. Spacious, with new things to find everytime you look around. Very cozy and comfortable with every amenity you'd need. Nine of us stayed but never felt crowded and the one shower was not a problem given there were three bathrooms. Highly recommended the farm shop in denstone which is just 5 minutes drive away.

    Callum2019-09-30T00:00:00Z
  • Great place to explore Alton and big house with lots of interesting touches and plenty of space.

    Alan2019-09-08T00:00:00Z
  • Brilliant place for family groups, so much for kids to do inside the house as well as locally. Great hosting from Gabrielle, helpful and clear communication. Locals seemed to know this is a holiday house and were polite enough to ask us how we liked Alton as they were passing. Very friendly village and lovely walks to be had close by. Would love to come back.

Charming and comfortable cottage for two located in the guest wing of our long traditional farmhouse. We have a Swedish hot-tub and barrel sauna in the farmhouse gardens which can be booked and hired by guests for a unique elemental experience. *IF YOU INTEND TO HIRE THE HOT TUB OR SAUNA, PLEASE MAKE SURE IT IS AVAILABLE WHEN YOU BOOK* (extra cost - for price see 'other things to note' section) Through its own front door you have a small entrance hall with hanging space for coats, a cosy sitting room with log stove, books and a big flat telly if you need it. This leads to a light and comfortable kitchen dining room. This room, with its glass roof, used to be the old barrel ceilinged wash house with an old copper for heating the water. Now it has a small, simple but well equipped kitchen and a big table where you can relax and watch the cows or sheep wander past. The back door, leads up old stone steps to a tiny patio area with garden furniture, but, of course you can also enjoy the big country garden at the front of the house too. Up the main stairs there is a little landing which leads to a spacious bedroom with the best of the beautiful views across the Peak District and beyond. There is a canopied king size bed with beautifully laundered Egyptian cotton sheets in which you can oversleep and the room's en-suite bathroom has a rainfall shower. We have a large biomass boiler which provides plenty of hot-water and keeps the central heating going whenever you need it so you will be cosy and warm all year round. Walk straight from the door over beautiful Bunster hill to Dovedale and its famous stepping stones, or along the ridge of the Manifold Valley, or beyond, there are so many walks to choose from.
Swallows skimming about, the scent of homemade organic bread and a selection of local and homemade goodies are the things that may greet you when you arrive at our organic dairy farm in the Peak District National Park. Our home is a farmhouse on an organic dairy farm in the beautiful Peak District National Park. Built from local limestone the farmhouse has been added to over the centuries since the 1500's. We run our business in the most environmentally friendly way we can without compromising on comfort for our guests. In 2018 we won gold for Sustainability in the Enjoy Staffs Tourism Awards! We have a Swedish hot-tub and barrel sauna in the farmhouse gardens which can be booked and hired by guests for a unique elemental experience (make sure you reserve this when you book your accommodation as it is very popular - and does cost extra).
The farm is set in the most stunning scenery and looks over the valleys of the Peak District. There are three self catering cottages on the farm, but none are overlooked. The village of Ilam is picturesque with beautiful chocolate box Swiss style houses and past the Anglo Saxon church there is Ilam Park, a National Trust property with a lovely tearoom. Our nearest towns are Ashbourne and Leek, both market towns with quirky shops and boutiques alongside the usual shops and supermarkets. There is a host of interesting villages such as Tissington with the best traditional sweet shop ever or Hartington with a delicious farm shop cafe and legendary cheese shop. Further afield there is Bakewell, Buxton, Tideswell and Eyam. We are spoiled for choice with interesting places to visit: Chatsworth; Haddon Hall; Sudbury Hall; Go Ape; Alton Towers; Peak Wildlife Park; Coombs Valley Nature Reserve; Crich Tramway Museum or The Heights of Abraham are just a few. We are really lucky that we have some brilliant pubs and restaurants in the area for a great selection of real ale or really delicious food.
  • Lovely quiet break away just what the doctor ordered, loved the fire and cake was a lovely touch

  • This is a brilliant place to come and relax. A cosy property, great views, lovely hosts. And for us, having access to an electric car charge point was a real plus. Highly recommended.

  • We booked The old wash tub for a final break before back to work after Christmas. The cottage is lovely, welcoming and clean, in a beautiful location. It’s very quiet which is just what we wanted. Alex and rob even had cake waiting for us on arrival which was a really lovely touch! We also loved that the fire was lit and they even had a little Christmas tree in the cottage. We booked the hot tub experience which was amazing. We used it from 6pm and it was lovely and warm all evening, we enjoyed Cava and chocolates with the luxury package and candles and the fire had been lit in the cave, it was amazing! On booking I did think the extras like the hot tub prices are a little expensive, but I’m still really glad we did it, it was a lovely way to spend the evening (and of course it was our decision to book the extras, we where in no way obliged to, we just couldn’t resist!) All in all we have had a lovely weekend and have already told our friends about your lovely place. Thanks Alex and rob!

  • Having stayed in a number of rental cottages over the years, the Wash house, by far, comes at the top of the list in terms of quality of accommodation. Alex & Rob have created a home from home with this place, we would change nothing, top rate.

  • Beechenhill Farm and the Old Wash House is an idyllic location from which to explore the upper reaches of the River Dove. Superb views across the dales and hills from the bedroom the Old Wash House is tastefully decorated, warm and cosy the Log Burner provides additional heat and enhances the relaxing atmosphere. You are guaranteed a comfortable nights sleep in the feature bedroom and the en-suite shower WC and washroom are clean and inviting with plenty of towels. High Recommended

  • We had a great time at Alex & Rob's place. The communication was super easy and quick and the place looks exactly like it does on the pictures. The local villages are conveniently located and the apartment is very quiet! Would absolutely recommend to stay there! Will certainly revisit in the summer months!

  • Lovely place to stay, spacious, all the amenities and more, lovely hosts, we couldn’t have asked for a better trip! We were very well looked after, the hosts went above and beyond. The location is stunning and there is so much to do nearby - with personal favourites given from the hosts - and their recommendations should definitely be followed! Thoroughly enjoyed our weekend away and we will definitely be coming back.

Lovely and quiet countryside studio for business or pleasure. Completely self contained with double bed, lounge area, dining table, bathroom and kitchen. Quiet hideaway with privacy for a single person or couple with its own off street entrance. Perfectly situated near major transport links including a railway station a 5 minute drive away. For convenience it is located a 5 minute drive from the village of Willington with shops, takeaways and 2 pubs.
Update: due to the current situation the apartment is being thoroughly cleaned before every guest and the keys can be picked up and dropped off with no interaction required and the apartment itself is completely isolated on the first floor. Hi, we are a family living in this lovely village. The studio is modern with its own off street entrance. The studio is private and completely self contained with free WiFi and a TV with FreeSat in the small lounge area with a sofa and a small dining table. It has a separate shower room complete with essential toiletries like shower gel and shampoo in case you forgot to pack them as well as complimentary tea and coffee. If you need anything we’re only next door!
It is a small village but very close to major roads such as the A38 and A50 and only 15 minutes into the centre of Derby. There are a range of shops 5 minutes away and there are takeaways that do deliver locally.
  • Lovely space. Lovely village. Only 15mins drive from derby centre. Good value. Quiet, private.

  • A perfect place to be independent and close to the Peaks or work/meetings. Great facilities and very hospitable. Noise noise, warm & comfortable.

  • Brilliant place everything about it. Can’t wait to stay again fabulous hosts loved the area also.

  • Very cosy and comfy studio apartment. My two week stay turned into almost a month as I looked for a permanent rental in the UK. I had everything I needed, a small hot plate, fridge and kitchen accessories. There is a laundromat that you can pop your clothes into and collect the following day in Burton just down the road which is very reasonable. The village is very pretty and welcoming. Jasmine was fantastic, very flexible when I changed dates and extended the stay. Would definitely recommend.

Chained Oak Farm is located directly opposite Alton Towers theme park and is set in its own grounds of 24 acres of woodland. The Lodge overlooks the churnet valley; the views are magnificent designated as 'an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty'.
The wooden Lodge is a really unique and exciting place to stay! You have your own space with an under cover sitting area, fire pit next to a pond and a cosy wooden finished room with an en-suite bathroom! There is a fridge and bbq for your use.
Pubs, walking, endless countryside, wildlife, great for star gazing, Alton towers, Alton castle, edge of the Peak District, football/croquet lawn
  • An amazing little lodge! We arrived and Liz directed us to the lodge even though she wasn’t home. A beautiful little place to stay with a fire pit. It was mine and my boyfriends first getaway together and couldn’t have spent it anywhere better! We missed breakfast on the first morning and left the place looking rather untidy as we woke up late. When we arrived back after being at Alton Towers for the day, Liz had been in and tidied everything away and made the bed for us. I wasn’t expecting this at all but it was lovely to come back after an exhausting day and just relax. We got the fire pit going and spent most of the night next to it

    Eleanor2020-03-09T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing host, accomodation set in the beautiful countryside and a minutes drive from Alton towers. The breakfast was from local produce and one of the best I've had. Would definitely recommend to anyone visiting Alton towers

  • Our second stay at the fab cabin. Lovely, peaceful and warm, even in this awful weather! Will come back again for the summer :)

    Jess2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • We can not fault our experience! Liz was an excellent host and provided just the right amount of ‘hosting’ to ensure our trip was a success. On arrival, Liz shares her excellent local knowledge and we were soon on our way (down the footpath) to the local tea shop The Ramblers Retreat, which had the best outside seating space I’ve ever seen - never mind the tasty brownies and gingerbread lattes. The cabin its self was pristinely clean and tidy and is set beside a beautiful pond area and rolling hillside which makes for relaxing sitting for seeing the evening in. The bathroom is well equipped and the water is hot! The bedroom was lovely and warm and we didn’t even need to put the electric blanket on (and we visited in feb!). We had a Chinese takeaway on the first night and Liz was really helpful with her suggestions and selection of menus. We are in the garden/breakfast room and Liz kindly provided us with plates and cutlery - and cleared away the mess! Thanks!! The lounge was available throughout our stay, which had a roaring open fire, seating and a TV with many DVDs to choose from. Breakfast in the morning was top quality with full English, fruit, yoghurts and cereals, and Liz again went above and beyond to ensure we had tried traditional Staffordshire oat cakes before we left - they were fab! Thank you Liz for a wonderful stay at the Chained Oak; we had a great stay and will be visiting again soon.

The Parlour is a luxury Shepherd's Hut looking out onto the Churnet Valley in Staffordshire. Set in eleven acres of organic farmland, there are walks and cycle paths on your doorstep. If adrenalin is what you seek then despite our peaceful location, we are a only a couple of miles from Alton Towers. The lovely market town of Ashbourne, the gateway to the Peak District, is twenty minutes away.
Welcome to Greenacres! We're Tessa and David, and we live in our family's farmhouse set in the middle of 11 acres of organic pasture on the edge of the small country village of Denstone, Staffordshire. The land has been farmed for centuries, and Tessa's family has been here since the middle of the 19th century. We are 10 minutes from Alton Towers, close to Ashbourne and the Peak District, and a short walk from the centre of the village.
Greenacres is set in the midst of 11 acres of organic grassland pasture, and there's a lovely view of the trees of the Churnet Valley and the Weaver Hills from the Victorian swing hanging from the nearby old Ash tree. A countryside location but only a couple of miles from Alton Towers. If you are a lover of the night, you will really enjoy our dark skies. There are no street lights around us, and on dark nights the skies are brilliant with stars. It's certainly a good place to bring a pair of binoculars and go stargazing in the garden. Greenacres is 5 minutes walk from the middle of Denstone village, and about 100 yards down a private track across the fields from the B5032 road from Denstone to Alton; parking is off-road in our large courtyard.
  • Our stay surpassed our expectations, loved how they ensured we had everything we needed, had a pan for everything, the little flowers were a lovely touch 🥰 everything from Salt&pepper and cooking oil to tea, sugar and ground coffee 😋 the folder of hints and tips was very helpful, thank you for a lovely stay

  • Thank you so much for having us! The hut is beautiful. It was clean and thoughtfully designed. All the information provided in the guestbook was extremely helpful. We loved all the small touches, the flowers, the radio and the games. Jack particularly enjoyed the fire! Would highly recommend.

    George2019-08-11T00:00:00Z
  • David and Tessa’s place has by far been our favorite Airbnb experience—and we’ve stayed in A LOT of Airbnb’s, so that’s saying something. Not only is the Shepard’s hut incredibly cute, very clean, and well equipped, but David and Tessa themselves are wonderful and went above and beyond in so many ways. David even provided us with numerous tips for our trip to Scotland (our destination after Denstone). The scenery surrounding the hut is so peaceful and my husband and I had so much fun playing cards outside while their sweet dog kept us company. We would happily come back to Denstone just to stay in their lovely Shepard’s hut again and have the perfect little getaway.

  • We enjoyed a wonderful stay in an idyllic location.

    Darran2018-07-14T00:00:00Z
  • My friend and I stayed for 2 nights mid week. Tessa and Dave were the perfect hosts. They were friendly and accommodating and couldn’t do enough to make our stay as pleasant as possible. The shepherds hut was comfortable, immaculate and beautifully decorated. We really appreciated Tessa and Dave’s attention to detail such as the vase of fresh flowers on the table and having the shepherds hut stocked with milk, tea and coffee. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and hope to go back.

  • This place is just idyllic! Gorgeous views, warm welcome, a very stylish and comfortable space, with everything you could need for your stay. Russell and Jeanette were wonderful and friendly hosts, checking in to make sure things were good and if we needed anything. The location is fantastic too. We went to splash landings at alton towers, the churnet valley railway and ashbourne during our break, all within 20 mins of where the accommodation was. We loved it and would happily return again.

  • Lovely accommodation, everything was perfect. Thank you

    Natalie2020-01-06T00:00:00Z
  • I would definitely recommend this place to stay! It's very stylish inside, but very comfortable too. Beds are comfortable and the kitchen and bathroom very nice and easy to use. Good TV upstairs and the WiFi worked well for us. Plenty of space for four of us and good sofas for the evening time. Russell was delightful too, very responsive and helpful when making arrangements beforehand and very friendly greeting us all on arrival and helping us get settled, but then leaving us be unless we needed anything (we did, and he was very helpful with that!) The house is next to a road but traffic noise wasn't a problem, and out the back is a great view of fields which you can walk into. Russell told us about a good walk which we enjoyed, great to be able to do that from the house (with OS map provided!) In conclusion, definitely choose this place if you're considering it!

    Phil2020-01-01T00:00:00Z
  • We had a brilliant stay here! Lovely spot for walks, would highly recommend walking on the old railway towards Alton to the ramblers retreat for lunch, thank you Russell for suggesting this! Some lovely villages nearby, the house itself was a great place the fresh eggs and mince pies were a great touch, fabulous host thank you very much!

The Dairy is situated on our small-holding. Home to us, our dog, cats, cows, chickens & pigs. Situated on the edge of Alton we are only 2 miles from Alton Towers and have a path down into Dimmingsdale. The Dairy has far reaching views across the stunning countryside. It consists of a large open plan living, cooking, eating and sleeping area plus separate bedroom and bathroom. It boasts a private south facing garden plus access to the field from which you can spot Smiler through the tree tops.
Shepherds Stand Farm is a 9 acre small holding. We are found on the outskirts of Alton village giving the Dairy a peaceful setting. Our elevated position means that there are stunning views across the local countryside. This is a great area for families, walkers, cyclists and being 10 miles from Stoke great for pottery fanatics. Being on a small holding guests get access to lots of outdoor space and opportunity to meet our friendly animals.
Alton is a lovely village with several pubs, a village shop and post office as well as being home to Alton Towers Theme Park. There are several pleasant cafes within a couple of miles and the towns of Ashbourne, Uttoxeter and Cheadle only a short drive away. We are on the edge of the Peak District as well as being on the doorstep of Dimmingsdale so we are well positioned for walkers and cyclists.

  • Katie and Nathan's place is very picturesque. You will wake up to cows and chickens on your doorstep which would be very exciting for children (and some adults). The place has a very hygge feel about it. The hosts were very accommodating and provided an extra camp bed for us. They were quick to respond to any questions we had and also helped us with finding the place when we arrived. Short drive to Alton Towers, so a great location for visiting there.

  • A lovely house in a great little village. Alison was an excellent host, I was a little awkward in changing my arrival time more than once and this was accommodated for with no bother. My room was very clean and comfortable and I slept great. Tea, coffee and fresh milk were available in my room. Good value for money and I would happily stay again and recommend others.

Everything from checkin to checkout went so smooth. Prior to booking we had a few questions and Alison was always quick to answer. We very much recommend this place. The house is spotless clean and Alison is a great host. Not to mention very comfortable bed. All in all it is a 5 star rating:)

Charming, cosy stone cottage on the outskirts of Wetton, adjacent to a pre 1700 farmhouse. Lovely views of surrounding countryside. Great base for exploring this beautiful part of the White Peak, very popular with walkers and cyclists. Ideal for couples or single guests. Has a galleried double bedroom with shower and toilet. Downstairs there is an open plan sitting/diner with kitchen area. Featuring beamed ceilings. Small south facing sitting out area and off road parking.
Well behaved pets are welcome but please bear in mind that Wetton is a working farming village and livestock will be around various fields throughout the year. Pam and Joh your hosts have lived here for 33 years and are keen to share the information they have gathered over time with you/
Wetton is so well centred at the heart of the White Peak and is surrounded by stunning hills and dales, which just have to be seen. The village also benefits from a great pub serving guest ales and an award winning village hall tea rooms.
  • We had a lovely weekend at Fred’s shed. The accommodation is great value for money. There are so many thoughtful touches that add to the experience. The communication from John was first class. We had arranged to arrive fairly late but John still made himself available to tell us everything we needed to know about the cottage, the village and the local area. His knowledge and enthusiasm was marvellous! We wouldn’t hesitate to recommend The gate house to anyone planning a couple of nights in the wonderful Peak district.

    Russell2020-03-15T00:00:00Z
  • John is an exceptional host, we had very warm welcome and John gave us great local tips which we used. The cottage was clean and had everything we needed including nice electric stove that kept us warm and cosy. The nature and all walks were on our door step - the beautiful Dove Valley and caves . We used the car only once to go to a near village pub, the Black Lion in Butterton , that had amazing food and has very friendly local atmosphere. The Royal Oak in Wetton was lovely and very friendly. Had breakfast in the Tea Room in the village - excellent! In all it was great stay!

  • Had the most relaxing stay beautiful place in a tiny village if you value peace and quiet this is the place ideal base for walking or cycling . Lovely touches when you arrive fresh bread, milk, butter and small bottle of fizz. The village has a pub which is ideal, no shops which for me I loved. Would highly recommend as a single traveller very safe and the local people are so friendly, a place to turn your mobile off get back to the great outdoors and take in all the countryside has to offer

    Robert2020-03-04T00:00:00Z
  • Johns place “Fred’s Shed” was a beautiful, peaceful place to stay for a thoroughly relaxing time . John is the most friendliest host and the welcome he gave us was lovely. We highly recommend the local pub for friendliness and definitely for the food as the old school tea rooms for breakfast. The views are totally gorgeous around Wetton. Thankyou for a lovely weekend.

  • We had an absolutely wonderful stay at John and Pam's Airbnb. We were blown away by the many thoughtful touches on arrival and they gave us all the local tips we needed to make the most of the area. The place itself is lovely - clean, cosy, had everything we needed and was in an ideal location for enjoying the Peaks. We loved everything about our stay.

  • John and Pam's cottage is an absolute gem, the welcome we received as we entered the cottage on the evening of Valentine's day was so incredibly thoughtful with 2 roses and a platter of valentine's nibbles, candles (though bring your own matches!), heart fairy lights and a well stocked fridge of butter, bread, eggs and milk was so much more than we could have expected. The cottage was plenty warm enough in the middle of storm Dennis, and has a wonderfully cosy feel to it in general. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here.

    Jessica2020-02-18T00:00:00Z
  • John’s place is a wonderful cottage in a wonderful setting. Extremely peaceful but full of so much adventure. John is a great host and has lots of tips on where to go. The Royal Oak pub is a must and so is the town halls cafe. The personal touches in the cottage made it feel ‘just like home’. This was my first air B&B and I would definitely love to return.

  • Fantastic accommodation in a beautiful and tranquil setting ! High spec and modern finish to the accommodation without losing any of the traditional character that you’d expect from a barn conversion. Look forward to coming again thank you.

The house had everything you would need for a comfortable stay, as well as toys for the kids and any baby equipment that I requested. Milk and Cava on arrival was a lovely touch! It was so close to Alton towers that made it easy, although I would Have liked to stay at the house more. Host were great and on call if needed.

It is the second time my partner and I have stayed here and we will be back next year on our annual Alton Towers adventure!

  • I had an absolutely superb stay with Chris and Margaret at Manor House Farm. The surrounding countryside is stunning, and the farm house itself was amazing - very old and beautifully cared for, so welcoming and warm! I loved having the use of the sitting room and log fire of an evening! My room was so cozy and comfortable and clean. The bed was really comfy, shower hot and towels fluffy. I had one of the best night's sleep there I can remember. The internet reception was great, although I didn't have much phone reception (which to be honest was a plus for a short break!) Chris and Margaret were very communicative and friendly, and so helpful in planning activities for the day. Breakfast was such a treat! All cooked to order, top quality and delicious. I only wish I could have stayed longer! :-)

  • A lovely rural location, very quiet! Plenty of beautiful places to visit within a 15-30 minute drive. Bern was a very friendly and helpful host. Perfect place for a countryside getaway.

  • A lovely cottage in peaceful surroundings.

    Justin2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • This was an absolute gem. A perfectly quaint little bungalow with a modern but cosy interior. Not only did Nic and Bern provide all the information we needed to get the most out of the surrounding area, but they thoughtfully left instructions on how to get the most out of the house (specifically regarding the log fire which was a god send in February!). As hosts, they were friendly and helpful without being at all invasive. The house itself was perfectly furnished with everything you could possibly need, including things we didn’t expect like the hot water bottle and the flask. Thank you so much for hosting us, we hope to come back soon.

    Sophie2020-02-18T00:00:00Z
  • A cosy and well equipped little cottage in beautiful surroundings with friendly hosts. The cottage is a perfect base for exploring the Peak District. We stayed in February and made good use of the log burner in the evenings. We will definitely book again.

    Jennie2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • If you want somewhere to rest and recharge this is the place. Perfectly situated so it was easy to travel throughout the Peak District. Bakewell and Leek both within easy and quick drives. The cottage is perfectly set out with the living room comfy and cozy, especially with the fire going. We took some DVDs and it was the perfect hide away. The cottage was super clean and comfortable, highly recommended and we will definitely be back. Maybe in the summer so we can sit out on the little patio and admire the gorgeous view.

    Grace2020-02-03T00:00:00Z
  • We spent 5 nights at the Wayward cottage over the Christmas period, the cottage is beautiful - bedroom, lounge and kitchen are cosy yet spacious, there's a wood burner and central heating so keeping warm was really simple. The cottage is situated right next to the farm where the hosts live, so even though it's remote we didn't feel isolated. We did a 7 mile walk on Christmas eve, taking in Wetton Mill and Butterton where we ate at the Black Lion. Fab place, will definitely return as the Shepherd's huts are intriguing us.

    Desmond2019-12-27T00:00:00Z
  • We have just returned from a lovely mini break at Nic and Berns cottage! The cottage itself made a lovely base, the log fire being a particular highlight on chilly November nights! The eggs were also delicious!! Nic and Bern were very hospitable, providing lots of useful information on walks in the local area. We visited Leek one day too, nice little shops to shelter from the rain in on a wet afternoon! Would recommend !

    Sarah2019-11-13T00:00:00Z
  • A sweet little cottage in a spectacular location. Bern and Nic were welcoming and tended to every need we had- they even left us eggs from the chickens on the farm! Going down to Leek is a must, the coffee at Cafe No5 is wonderful and the homemade chocolates from Misco’s are unbelievable- we went on the Friday and then had to go back on the Saturday to get more! We had the best time in this cottage and are even planning a return trip already. 😍

Located centrally in the National Forest we are in a quiet and peaceful semi-rural position, on the edge of the Staffordshire, Derbyshire border, yet close to town. This is an ideal spot to explore the Derbyshire peaks, or for visiting any of Staffordshire's major tourist attractions (such as Alton Towers, the National Memorial Arboretum, and St Georges Park), and is ideal for ramblers, business travellers, and holidaymakers alike, however, connectivity could be difficult without own transport.
We are a retired couple who offer a newly-furbished double room overlooking green space. The main bedroom price per night is for 1 or 2 person, with an extra £10 for each individual using the sofa bed. In addition you will be able to enjoy a PRIVATE bathroom, and sitting room, on the ground floor, with patio access to a secluded rear garden with water feature and decking for al fresco dining in summer. The sitting room has a bed settee which may be used for an additional 1 or 2 guests at £10 per person per night. This living room space is only available to guests renting the main bedroom, and has a TV/DVD. It also has a microwave and toaster, and a small fridge, and cutlery along with crockery to enable guests to prepare simple evening meals for themselves. The listing is for one guest, or two, sharing the double bedroom. In the event that a guest would be uncomfortable sharing the double bed, the sitting room sofa bed is available, at an extra £10. However, the sofa bed is more suitable for younger people. Tea and Coffee is available if required.
Our semi-rural location means that we overlook countryside and yet are only a 20 minute walk into the centre of town. We are a stone's throw away from the river Trent which has beautiful riverside walks and countryside walks are also right on our doorstep. Canal walks and forestry centres and reservoir lakes are close by as is the National Memorial Arboretum. Day trips out are quite manageable to the Peak District National Park and also the Cotswolds.
  • Such a wonderful little set up with all the necessary amenities. The Hosts are super warm and welcoming and take clear pride in their home and the space they have to offer for your stay.

Swallows skimming about, the scent of homemade organic bread and a selection of local and homemade goodies are the things that may greet you when you arrive at our organic dairy farm in the Peak District National Park. Our home is a long traditional farmhouse on an organic farm in the beautiful Peak District National Park. Built from local limestone the farmhouse has been added to over the centuries since the 1500's. We run our business in the most environmentally friendly way we can without compromising on comfort for our guests. In 2018 we won gold for Sustainability in the Enjoy Staffs Tourism Awards! We have a Swedish hot-tub and barrel sauna in the farmhouse gardens which can be booked and hired by guests for a unique elemental experience (Please reserve this when you book your accommodation as it is very popular - it does cost extra).
The farm is set in the most stunning scenery and looks over the valleys of the Peak District. The cottage is one of three on the farm, but none are overlooked. The farm is secluded and quiet.
  • We really enjoyed our stay, certainly recommended. Lovely and clean, and with beautiful views. We really enjoyed the log fire and the Christmas tree.

  • Me and my friends had the most wonderful time at the Beechenhill Farm! The cottage is really beautiful and cosy, beds are incredible comfortable, great water pressure and all cleaning products are environmentally friendly, we really appreciated all the attention given towards sustainability and felt the connection with nature here. We had a night we will never forget in the hot tub and sauna and can’t thank Alex, Rob, Terry and Sue Prince (your paintings are beautiful!) for the amazing hospitality - they took really really good care of us and we felt incredibly welcomed. We got to see a calf that was born on the night we arrived which was magical. The area is of outstanding beauty and we will cherish our memories from our weekend there forever. Can’t thank you enough for everything!

  • Our stay here was absolutely perfect! The beautiful scenery is worth it alone but then add on a welcome cake, a relaxing dip in the hot tub at sunset and Alex & Robs hospitality and it’s one of the best trips we’ve had! We definitely want to go back soon

  • Perfect location for peace and quiet with stunning views. The cottage is well equipped, bathrooms are modern and overall it’s very spacious (we were a group of 6). Alex and Rob were always on hand to communicate throughout our stay.

  • Just got back from a two night stay with my Mum and 6 month old son. The barn was amazing, even better than the pictures show. The living room has stunning countryside views through the huge window. Bedrooms were spacious with comfy beds and soft bedding. The views from the main bedroom were lovely. The travel cot and highchair were great extras. Lynda and Alan were great hosts, we received the warmest welcome and communication both before and during the stay was speedy. Would highly recommend staying here, we'd love to come back in the summer to take advantage of the lovely garden area.

We went on the stormiest 2 nights but felt so cozy and warm with a good TV service. Horses to greet you in the morning was a bonus. Would definitely come again. Thanks Lyn.

Wood fire inside and fire powered hot tub are also great additions! Nice and quiet area and nice hosts. About a 45 min walk to some lovely pubs in Alton

  • Absolutely beautiful location. My friend and I travelled for Alton Towers services day. The Pod was very easy to find and is set in such a peaceful area. We generally followed the satnav and it took us right to the location. We struggled with the hot tub (only because we'd never lit a fire before) but Sally was on hand to help which saved the situation. The town of Cheadle was only 5 minutes away for any amenities and shops or takeaways. Alton Towers was also a short drive which was very beneficial after a long day of walking and being thrown around on roller-coasters. Absolutely lovely stay. Thank you Sally and Andy.

    Jess2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • A beautiful pod that is cosy and clean. The hot tub is a real treat and quite magical. There are plenty of great “dog” friendly pubs within walking distance and we would highly recommend a stay if you are looking for peaceful retreat from the hustle and bustle of daily life! The hosts were thoughtful and friendly and nothing was too much trouble. Thank you for a wonderful stay!

    Lynne2020-02-19T00:00:00Z
  • I booked the pod as a Christmas present for my husband since January is often a bit rubbish & we needed something to look forward to! It was everything I'd hoped for... a lovely little self contained hut with everything you might need, and a bonus jar of marshmallows to toast on the fire! The log burner kept the place cozy for when we returned from a long walk around the beautiful countryside! The wood fired hot tub worked brilliantly & was the best way to unwind in the evening; especially luxurious in the cold February night air. Sally & Andy are brilliant hosts, and were super understanding about an accidental breakage (which we have of course paid for!) I would not hesitate to return here, in fact, we have made it our goal to have 2 countryside retreats each year, so I'm certain we'll be back! Thank you x

A real hideaway for two, tiny warm and peaceful, in its own walled garden with not another house in sight. We have a Swedish hot-tub and barrel sauna in the farmhouse gardens which can be booked and hired by guests for a unique elemental experience. *IF YOU INTEND TO HIRE THE HOT TUB OR SAUNA, PLEASE MAKE SURE IT IS AVAILABLE WHEN YOU BOOK* (extra cost - for price see 'other things to note' section) Once a stallion pen, Beechenhill Cottage now has a mural ceiling with vines and doves, a canopied bed and a real fire for cosy evenings. Oversleep in the delightful bedroom with its old polished pine and king-sized canopied bed. Bed linen is beautifully laundered pure cotton. There is a well equipped kitchen with an electric oven and induction hob, microwave, fridge and dishwasher. You can snuggle up to the coal-burning stove in winter and watch the TV with integrated DVD player. There is also a radio with an iPod docking station along with books and maps from which to choose the best walk.
We have a Swedish hot-tub and barrel sauna in the farmhouse gardens which can be booked and hired by guests for a unique elemental experience (Please reserve this when you book your accommodation as it is very popular - extra cost).
The farm is set in the most stunning scenery and looks over the valleys of the Peak District. The cottage is on the farm site with two other self catering cottages on site, but is very secluded and not overlooked. Quiet, with no neighbours, the only passers by might be cows, hens, or two naughty goats!
  • Beechenhill cottage is absolutely stunning, we found ourselves being mesmerized by the hills which are surrounding the cottage. The cottage is very well equipped, with everything you might need. Bed is very comfy and the hosts are incredibly attentive and friendly. Make sure to do either sauna or hot tub experience and order the freshly made bread, it is delicious as well as other produce you can purchase from them.

    Valeria2020-03-20T00:00:00Z
  • ‘This little cottage was absolutely perfect. It was really cute inside, especially with the log burner. Everything you could possibly want has been supplied and the Victoria Sponge waiting for us was to die for! Top tip: take some slippers - the cottage was lovely and warm but as it’s an old cottage there isn’t underfloor heating.

  • The cottage is perfectly formed and the location is beautiful and peaceful (apart from the odd cow moo, but they made our stay all the more memorable!). It also feels very private. Perfect for relaxing or visiting the local sights and exploring the National Park. Our 1-year old loved running around the farm and seeing the chickens. Highly recommended!

  • We have just returned home from a lovely couple of nights in the Yurt. It was everything we expected and had all the amenities that we needed. The little private kitchen area was ideal to cook breakfast and having your own BBQ was a great touch and we enjoyed a lovely BBQ on the second night. Even though Sally and Andy were away on holiday, we were well looked after. Fantastic location and our 8yr old loved being outside looking at the animals and playing with the farm dogs. He didn’t look at this iPad once! Totally recommend this and if you have a group of you, this would be ideal as you have the Yurt, Bell Tent, Pod and Lodge all close by, but not too close. Loved it and will definitely come back :-)

  • Thank you both again for making our stay very special and for the amazing hospitality. Would highly recommend to others!

  • We have had such a lovely, welcoming, cosy stay at Sally and Andy's yurt. Glamping was fun!! It was perfect for our family of three. We really enjoyed the firepit on the first night (toasting marshmallows!) but then the weather got a bit cold and wet - didn't bother us at all though. The yurt is so cosy and the small inside fireplace really warmed things up so quickly and comfortably. Everything was very clean and the toilet/shower and kitchen huts were perfect. We felt so welcomed and so at home. We'd love to stay again for sure!

Fagin is our loveable little rogue shepherd's hut filled with old school charm. Situated only 10 minutes from Alton Towers and Dovedale, it's perfect for quick getaways and stopovers. Wonderful for bird watching in the mornings as you brew up. Fagin is situated in its own corner of our camp field. **Please note, this hut is off-grid. If you need to charge your phone, I can happily show you to a charging point.
Only 10 minutes from Alton Towers and Manifold Trail and 15 minutes to Dovedale. Perfect for exploring a The Peak District trails and National Trust properties. Our favourite historic pub The Yew Tree Inn at Cauldon is only a short 7 minute drive.
  • Emily and Whizz's place was perfect. Such unique and well thought out accommodation. Emily was a brilliant host and had everything together before we arrived. The farm is also incredible! We will certainly be staying there again. Thanks again Emily and Whizz!

  • Mount pleasant farm is a truly unique and special place! Emily is super kind and helpful and we had a lovely stay -so cosy and we slept soooo well!

  • Wonderful shepherd's huts at the edge of the peak district. Kitchen and bathroom facilities exceptional for a shared campsite block. From the placement of the huts, down to the lovely sinks in the toilet block, everything is thoughtfully designed, beautifully rustic. Emily and the others (and also the resident pigs, sheep, horse, donkey and chickens) were beyond welcoming and made sure we had everything we needed. Really well located, we were able to travel there on a public minibus from Ashbourne. We also took day hike to the village of Ilam and the Dovedale stepping stones (a moderately gentle hike along public footpaths - absolutely stunning views and passing through a lovely national trust park) and were back in time for tea! Couldn't recommend this place more!
