Places to stay in Aoraki Mount Cook Village
This cosy log cabin leaves you in no doubt you’ve stopped off in a secluded alpine village. Our lounge features a fireplace, excellent views, a couple of guitars and an emergency teddy bear! Crash on the couches with a book from our miniature library or have a jam on one of the guitars. This hostel is a favourite among active travellers – the communal dining room and kitchen are always busy bright and early as our guests head off to explore the excellent hikes and vistas in the area. Our comfortable TV room and lounge, 5GB free WiFi per day, and sauna also make great places to relax at the end of the day! This listing is for one bed in a multishare room with eight beds, suitable for up to eight people. Room layout includes bunk beds. Bed linen and individual lockable cupboards with charging ports provided. This room does not include its own bathroom, communal bathroom facilities are available. Towels available to hire at reception.
Mt Cook Village is a small town nestled in the shadow of New Zealand's mightiest mountains. It's a quiet spot with minimal facilities, so we recommend coming prepared. The town doesn't have a supermarket, so we provide a few convenience items and some food at our reception desk. We'd also suggest fueling before heading up along the side of Lake Pukaki to reach the village if you're driving. Nearby attractions include, of course, our stunning mountains and all the excellent hikes they provide! Chat to our team about the weather and which walks you're thinking of; the DOC information centre is alos a recommended spot for heritage, info, and to register your intentions before hiking.
  • Nothing to complain, definitely recommend!

The Pod is a delightful little stopover for the traveller. It's warm and has a lovely outlook. It is not a big area and has only a double bed. The bathroom is a little walk on the grass to get to for those of you that frequent it at night and is used by some members of our family. John and I are always avaliable to help with recommendations for what there is to do etc. Wifi would not be in the Hut but you will be perfectly welcome to come and use in the house.
The house is walking distance from town and if you were wanting a continental breakfast we could supply with and additional cost.
Fox Glacier is very lucky to also Lake Matheson, which is a beautiful mirror image lake reflecting Mt Cook on a good day. We can offer many good tips on how best to see our Glacier.
  • A great place to stay - close to town, cute, clean, quiet and had everything we needed. Great to have the option of continental breakfast as well.

  • Very nice and the views are amazing

    Marijose2020-03-10T00:00:00Z
  • A great value cosy stay in Fox Glacier! The pod was warm and comfortable. It was fun to stay with the farm animals nearby (cows, black face sheep and pet dogs). We had great weather so the separate bathroom wasn’t an issue. The pod is really well set up and has everything you need.

    Emma2020-03-07T00:00:00Z
  • The view was exceptional- Very cozy cabin! We loved our stay.

    Capucine2020-03-06T00:00:00Z
  • Absolutely stunning view! Watching the rain roll in over the mountains was perfect! We didnt have the best of weather when we visited, but even with this poor weather we had an enjoyable time. :)

  • Cute space, great scenery, and convenient location.

A cozy place with great mountain views. It is close to the centre of town (4 minutes walk), It’s modern and warm. It has a fully equipped kitchen and a washing machine. Due to Covid-19, we have intensified our cleaning routine, making sure everything is clean and safe. From door knobs to light switches, we got you covered. People who wish to stay long term can take advantage of our discounted rates. Here is truly the perfect place to self isolate. No crowds and lots of nature to explore.
Our place is cozy, modern, warm and have beautiful views.
Fox Glacier Township has about 300 residents, but It welcomes nearly 1,000 visitors a day during the summer months. A lot of the residents like myself came here for a day or two, or a summer season and never left. It's hard not to fall in love with this place. There is plenty to see, so we highly recommend you stay at least two nights. The drive to Fox Glacier is very scenic and and you might feel like stopping every 30 minutes. So take that into account when planning your stay here. Don’t rush! Most people that rush here says they need to come back and do it again and spend more time.
  • Great place to stay in the Fox Glacier area. Marianna is a gracious host and provided a delicious breakfast for us.

    Kurt2020-03-16T00:00:00Z
  • We really enjoyed our stay in the tiny home. We had everything we needed for the two nights and felt right at home. Marianna was so thoughtful and picked fresh veggies from her garden and provided breakfast both days, including homemade bread. The location was great too. Only a few minutes drive to the restaurants and store. Lake Mathewson was also nearby and Franz Josef Glacier was a quick drive too. Would definitively stay here again.

    Katelyn2020-03-10T00:00:00Z
  • We had a wonderful stay. Marihanna and her family are so welcoming and nice. Everything was very clean. The garden with fresh vegetables and herbs is great. Can absolutely recommend!

    Sara2020-03-07T00:00:00Z
  • We booked this place just for night as we came back to do helicopter flight . The communication was prompt. We felt the place a bit small and the big table n chair makes it look much smaller . But we were ok as we had to spend only a night . Mariana offered us homemade bread , fruits eggs for breakfast. She also agreed to let us check out by 11. We would recommend her place to future guests . It’s walking distance to the market n cafes . So make the most .

    Devesh2020-03-04T00:00:00Z
  • Very good location, just few minutes from Fox Glacier Guides Center. The hosts are very hospitable and helpful. The cottage was new, very clean and more spacious than expected. Nice homemade breakfast.

    Bartosz2020-03-03T00:00:00Z
  • A really lovely space. Perfect for two but could work for a family with kids. Spotlessly clean and very comfy bed, what more could we ask for. Full kitchen facilities were much appreciated as was the 5 minute walk to town for an evening bevy at the Saddle.

    Michele2020-03-02T00:00:00Z
  • This is exactly as you'd expect for a stay. We booked two nights in hope of getting to go up to fox glacier heli-hike, which we eventually did. Marianne was outstanding in providing hospitality, personally delivering us snacks and breakfast, with fresh baked bread and tea leaves from her garden. They compost so make sure you help out and use the compost bin. If you don't have any issues with hanging out on the bed/sofa bed, or hang at the dining table, you could fit 4 adults in there without feeling too cramped.

  • We loved our stay here! Kirsty has put a lot of thoughtful touches into the place. I really enjoyed reading the book about their family and the land which also included an amazing local tip to get a great view of the Fox Glacier! The Smeg amenities were also awesome! We would definitely recommend!

    Carolyn2020-03-06T00:00:00Z
  • Super cute tiny home. Everything you need in a stylish space. Highly recommend.

  • If you haven’t stayed in a Shepard’s hut before and you’re not sure please be assured that it’s super cosy and very stylish. The accommodation has been put together with thoughtful touches. The Sullivan family book was delightful to read and made it personalised telling their family history.

    Suanne2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • A gorgeous little hut right in the heart of town. Cozy and comfortable bed, beautiful gardens and lovely breakfast. Our only regret was not staying longer! Would definitely recommend!

    Renee2020-02-27T00:00:00Z
  • Kirsty’s BnB is so awesome! The pictures are accurate, this is an adorable little place with a huge comfy bed, a nice warm gas fireplace and a great breakfast included. It was super clean and I felt like I just wanted to stay there and hang out all day because it is so picturesque and comfy. It’s walkable to the town restaurants and a sweet little glow worm path too. Kirstie let me know about a view of the glacier down the road that was in my opinion, better than the one I hiked two hours to see, and about lake Matheson right down the road which was beautiful! Highly recommend to everyone and would certainly stay again.

The chalet is set up to accommodate families and small groups of up to 8 people . It is fully equipped to make your stay as comfortable as possible. It is designed to give our guests a Kiwi Bach experience in a world class location.
The Chalet is a unique accommodation offering at Mount Cook The bedding configuration is one king bed in the master bedroom , which can be 2 singles on request, the second bedroom has a queen and a king single bed and the third room has two sets of bunks (4 beds). The house is ideal for two families or a small group but does only have one bathroom , which has a shower and separate bathtub. The toilet is separate from the bathroom.
The Chalet is located in the middle of our small village, the Old Mountaineer Cafe is 150 metres away and the Aoraki visitor centre is the same distance. Other restaurants within the Hermitage Hotels are also within easy 5minute walking distance. There is NO supermarket at Mt Cook. You need to bring your own groceries from Twizel or Lake Tekapo. We recommend buying some local Salmon along the way and cooking on the Chalet BBQ.

Your spacious en-suite room has a super comfortable quality queen size bed, relax in a warm & friendly home. Hosted by Gary you are central to Fox Glacier in a quiet residential area but only a few minutes stroll to the main amenities of the village. 5 kilometre drive from the Fox Glacier and Lake Matheson.
Your room has a superior comfort bed, quality linen and a modern ensuite. Ideally located being within an easy stroll of the village facilities and 5 kilometres from the Fox Glacier and Lake Matheson. The B&B is in a quiet residential area and enjoys a lush, green Westland National Park outlook from the house.
Even though it's on the Main Road (State Highway 6) it's quiet at night. Close enough to walk to the cafes and pubs but not to close that we hear any noise. We are only 5 kilometres from the actual glacier and Lake Matheson.

  • The Church at Fox was one of the highlights of our two-week trip to New Zealand! It's one of the most unique places we have ever stayed, and was also completely comfortable and sparkling clean. AJ did a beautiful job restoring the church. He also left us a delicious bottle of red wine which was very much appreciated after a long day on the road! We would absolutely stay there again.

  • The Church at Fox was the perfect respite for us on a fast paced trip around the South Island. As soon as we got in, we felt immediately relaxed. We enjoyed every aspect of the experience starting with our excellent communication with AJ. SO many nice touches make The Church at Fox a special splurge.

This listings is for one bed in a multishare room with four beds, suitable for up to four people. Room layout may include bunk beds.

  • A great place to stay on a budget! The staff were extra friendly too!

  • It’s very convenience to drive to starlight hwy! It’s located under the snow mountain. It’s good experience to stay at YHA.

  • This YHA was great. Sparkling clean, loved the sauna which is a nice touch. Too bad we had such a short time and it was raining. I definitely want to be back.

  • I’ve only stayed in hostels a few times & this one really stood out! First of all you’re in Mount Cook National Park, which is one of the most beautiful areas I’ve ever seen! I had a private double room with views of the mountains, bed was super cozy, bathroom was shared but I guess that’s hostel life! The kitchen downstairs was just massive & had everything you needed to prep dinner, there is no grocery store in the village so make sure you stock up in Twizel although the hostel offers some basic groceries as well! I really enjoyed my stay after a day of hiking the Hooker Valley Trail (which is a MUST!) The staff working at YHA were also super hospitable!

Our spacious Queen Room with shared bathroom and continental breakfast opens out to a deck with lovely views. Our alpaca and pet sheep make your stay complete and all of that with only a 5 min walk to the centre of town.
The bedroom is bright and sunny with views overlooking our farm. It has an outside door that opens onto a large deck where you can sit and enjoy an evening wine and watch the sunset or take a stroll around Kirstys flower garden.
Fox is a great town to live and especially in summer with all the tourists it has a gr8 vibe
  • Place is very well organised and clean. We had a great hospitality from the family and the lovely animals around at all times.

  • We stayed for three nights at Farmhouse B&B, hosted by Kirsty and John. We arrived in torrential rain and Kirsty very kindly picked us up from the bus-stop. Fortunately the weather during the next two days was fabulous and we were able to get out and explore and to enjoy sitting on the deck outside our bedroom once we got back to Farmhouse B&B. The Sullivans are from true pioneering stock and it was fascinating to hear from John about life in this community. Thanks particularly to Kirsty for dropping us off at the start of walks and picking us up at the end and for taking us to a splendid Fox Glacier/Mount Cook viewpoint on our way up to Lake Matheson.

  • Kirsty's Farmhouse B&B is a really lovely place to stay and an excellent base for exploring the area around Fox Glacier. The family is exceptionally welcoming and make you feel at home straight away. They are relaxed and informal, while at the same time everything is extremely well organised. The accommodation is very comfortable, the breakfasts are delicious, and the location is ideal - just on the edge of town and very handy for the local restaurants as well as for visiting Lake Matheson and Fox Glacier.

  • Clean and comfortable.

    Don2020-02-15T00:00:00Z
  • You cannot see the house when you first pull up. You will be greeted by 5 sweet dogs. They have sheep and a pony but the alpaca has passed away sadly. John is very friendly and a long time fox glacier resident. He made us feel at home. We were a little confused about the room situation. They rent out rooms in their house but have additional accommodations in their large yard for their kids who are in boarding school. You will share a bathroom with other guests which is clean. We were traveling with a 2 year old and they provided a crib which was very helpful. We were not sure if other guests were coming and others arrived late at 11pm. I think it would be nice, given the very close proximity and shared spaces a heads up about when people were arriving and how many so that everyone could be contentious about sharing a bathroom.

    Shelby2020-02-13T00:00:00Z
  • Kirsty and her husband are wonderful hosts. The farmhouse is located in Fox Glacier town with views all around of the farm and mountains. The room is on the ground floor with a bathroom down the hallway that's for the guest's exclusive use. The whole house is lovely and clean. They provided a great breakfast and plenty of up-to-date information about where to see Fox Glacier and which walks were open.
