The Alexandra offers a unique opportunity to stay in an 110 year old life boat on the shores of Cuan Sound. Situated on Argyll’s rugged coastline, this is the ideal location for kayakers, walkers and those wishing to enjoy the peaceful surroundings. Alexandra is nestled in the bay along with our other lifeboat The Mary Heather, both are part of our small campground facilities here at Cuan Ferry, they both share the shower and toilet facilities provided a short walk away
Alexandra has 6 berths set around a central table, each with a reading light, charger point, pillow and pillow slip, we do not provide linen however we can provide a sleeping bag with liner for a small additional charge. The galley has a two ring hob, microwave, toaster, kettle and fridge and a small sink with cold running water. Crockery, pans and cutlery are all provided. The covered cockpit entrance to the lifeboat provides an outdoor sitting and drying area. The toilet, shower, scullery and drying facilities are situated in our uniquely designed timber cove approximately 25 metres from the lifeboat.
Cuan Sound is a tidal stretch between the Islands of Luing and Seil, that connects two very unique Island communities. Both of which are incredibly vibrant and welcoming, and offer a range of different activities. The Island of Luing- the home of the famous Luing cattle and quarries "that roofed the world" -is only a short ferry ride away and hosts the recently opened Atlantic Islands Centre, a cafe and museum full of stories and history of the surrounding islands! This is a perfect base to take a boat trip, cycle ride, or walk around the shoreline if you are not a kayaker yourself! There are also a variety of lovely pubs and cafes in the area if you fancy a more relaxed excursion.

Simple, lovely and comfortable rebuilt traditional mining cottage just a stone throw off the ferry, and 20m to the Puffer Bar & Restaurant. Enjoy the unique serenity this car-free island has to offer, amidst the Scottish west coast's wild beauty.
Seol-Mara laid in ruins for years like many cottages on the island, and was rebuilt by the former owner in the 1980s, and is now a self-catering holiday cottage. The cottage has a double bedroom, loft space with double mattress, large living room with space for 2 folding beds. A kitchenette with fridge, freezer, cooker, microwave, toaster, kettle, tea & coffee, all the utensils and cutlery you will need and washing machine. The bathroom includes a bath and shower. All bed linen and towels are included. Mobile phone signal on the island is inconsistent, with the best place on the island for signal being near the phone box at the ferry shed. There is also Wi-Fi in the cottage free of charge, although be prepared for slower internet speeds than you may be used to!
The island is currently home to around 65 permanent residents and has undergone some drastic industrial changes in its history. Easdale is one of the four "Slate Islands" in the area that were mined for hundreds of years up until the First World War. These are known as the "islands that roofed the world". However a huge storm hit the area in November 1881, which filled all the quarries with sea water, and in turn wiped out over 300 families' livelihoods. As little as 4 people were left on Easdale during the mid 20th century, but a strong resurgence in recent years now boasts a thriving and welcoming community. The islands' fascinating history is available to read into with much greater detail in Easdale's Folk Museum (open April - October), a must visit for any keen historian. The award winning Puffer Bar & Restaurant is open all year round selling locally brewed beer and superb seafood freshly caught from local fisherman. It's just 2 doors down from the cottage as well! If you fancy doing a unique pub crawl of sorts it is possible, the Oyster Brewery is just on the mainland side off the ferry, and the Tigh an Truish is further down the road at the Bridge Over The Atlantic. The whole area boasts beautiful walks, and the island itself can be walked around leisurely in 30 mins, but can take many more hours to explore in its entirety. Climb the hill to discover fantastic views and point out the surrounding islands. Visit the swimming quarry for a fresh swim or jump in off the cliffs for those adrenaline-seeking types. Practice your stone skimming with perfect slate stones, the island is home to the famous World Stone Skimming Championships in September every year. An ideal place to just get away from it all... Wildlife is a big tourism factor to the area, porpoise and dolphins are occasionally spotted through the ferry channel and off the island. Local boat tours in the area like SeaFari Adventures actually take you down to see the infamous Corryvreckan Whirlpool (3rd largest worldwide), seals, eagles, cetaceans and many others. Easdale is a perfect stopping point on a tour of the Scottish West Coast. Access to the North West is easy by road, and in Oban you can hop on a CalMac ferry to get to the Outer Hebrides and other islands.
  • Spotlessly clean. Really lovely accommodation on a picturesque island. Lots to do and see and comfortable bed with everything you need. Cosy and warm with so many nice arty touches on the walls. Simple and traditional and everything you need. Ghalia was so friendly and welcoming and on hand if we needed anything. Stepping out of the front door straight onto grass as Easdale is a car free island was fun. Reasonably priced and highly recommended.

  • Beautiful wee cottage in idyllic surroundings

    Chris2019-11-03T00:00:00Z
  • Ghalia’s place was ideal for our family of 5 adult-sized people! The beds were comfortable, the shower was hot and powerful, the kitchen was amply equipped and Ghalia made us feel very welcome - even although we arrived in a downpour, she came from her own house to see us in. The cottage was warm and spotlessly clean. A lovely cottage on a beautiful island - thank you!

    Midge2019-10-06T00:00:00Z
  • This is a magical place. So beautiful and quiet. You should stay here if you want to have a peaceful experience.

    Christine2019-09-20T00:00:00Z
  • Seol Mara is a lovely cottage on the beautiful Easdale island. The cottage was sparkling clean and had everything we needed for our short stay. Ghalia was a gracious host and went out of her way to make our stay special. Thank you.

    Laura2019-08-30T00:00:00Z
  • Quaint cottage on Easdale island. All the basic amenities you need - perfect if you’re looking for a unique experience on the island. Fab dinner in the Oyster Bar, and would also recommend Sea-Fari but be prepared to get wet.

    Daniel2019-08-28T00:00:00Z
  • We have stayed at Ghalia's three times now and every stay has been wonderful. Ghalia's cottage is the perfect base for exploring Easdale, is spotlessly clean and very comfortable. Ghalia herself is extremely hospitable and will make sure you have everything you need for a good stay. Easdale is a beautiful island and the perfect place to relax.

  • A wonderful stay in a lovely property. We stayed for 3 days in February. Arrived to a sparkling clean and warm apartment and had a really relaxing time. We stayed through a big storm and stayed cosy and comfortable throughout. The views are sublime especially from the hot tub (on one occasion in a hail shower!). We enjoyed the local walks in between the wind and rain storms. Would definitely return.

  • This is a truly unique property, don't pass it by! Amazing furniture and interior decorations topped off by an incredible location. The night we had a campfire and were able to see the milky way will stay with us forever. More than enough room for a party of 8 with a great hot tub and sauna, plus lovely kitchens and bedrooms. The garden is a great space to relax in and look out over the landscape and it's a very short drive to the coast and the ferry over to Easdale. Highly recommended if you're looking for a truly unique place to stay.

Seashell Cottage is one of two four star self-catering cottages located in the beautiful 200 year-old conservation village of Ellenabeich just half an hour south of Oban. A perfect place to stay with most of what this area has to offer on your doorstep. The Oyster Bar/Restaurant less than a minutes walk away. The Puffer Bar and Restaurant/Tea Room on Easdale Island only a short two minute ferry ride away. Sea-fari boat trips leave from the harbour, the local slate beach and hill walks all walkable from the cottage. The village is the perfect place to enjoy the sunsets in the evenings. Ellenabeich is reached by crossing the famous 'Bridge over the Atlantic' to the Isle of Seil in Argyll, in the West Highlands of Scotland. These two beautifully appointed semi-detached properties come equipped with linen and towels and luxury toiletries for your stay and include electricity plus one bucket of coal for the fire. Additional fuel is available.
Rockpool and Seashell Cottages are located in a beautiful west coast fishing village in Argyll, south of Oban and offer easy access to the main tourist hotspots whilst offering a wonderful, peaceful base for your holiday. The conservation village of Ellenabeich, with its whitewashed cottages was built to house workers at the local slate quarries, but the industry collapsed in 1881 when the sea broke into the main quarry pit – the flooded pit can still be seen. • This is a lovely wee house in a lovely wee village. So comfortable, clean and with lovely wee touches like fresh flowers and a bottle of wine, pint of milk in the fridge to welcome me. And Annabel checked in to see if I was ok, which is always nice to see. I’ll definitely be booking it again. I had such a cosy relaxing break.

  • A superb cottage with everything you could need in a beautiful part of the country. We have stayed in many cottages over the last 10 years but this is by far the best on all counts. Amazing host who has thought of everything. Fantastic large garden with seating area which will be perfect in the warmer months. Everything inside the cottage is 5 star comfort and all you could wish for. A magical gem.

  • A beautiful cottage in an outstanding part of the world. We loved every minute of our stay. The cottages are perfect with everything thought about. I have never stopped and such a well equipped holiday cottage with such a high standard of amenities. The location is perfect for relaxing or a base for exploring. We took our dog and and Annabel made us all feel at home with a dog bed and blankets provided. The cottage was spotless, warm and quiet. All that is left to say is the place is perfect!!!!

  • My husband and I plus our two dogs stayed at Seashell Cottage for 4 nights for our honeymoon. We could not have chosen a better place to stay. Annabel was an incredibly attentive and kind host, and her property was absolutely stunning. Very well appointed, we had absolutely everything we needed, as well as a lovely bottle of prosecco! I'm a bit if a clean bathroom fan, and the bathroom at the cottage was immaculate. The bed was super comfy. The welcome book had a wealth of useful local knowledge, and Annabel herself gave us many helpful tips. The area around the cottage is outstandingly beautiful and great fun to explore. We look forward to coming back with our bikes to do some more exploring soon! Thank you Annabel.

  • Great kitchen for self-catering with the kids and wonderful selection of DVDs for all of us to enjoy on rainy days! Comfortable and sparkling clean, would definitely stay again if returning to the area. Lovely location and only a half hour drive from Oban. Feel as though we have had a week long holiday even though we only went for a long weekend.

I live in a slate roofed terraced cottage in Balvicar on the Isle of Seil. There are lovely views from and beautiful sunsets over the hills from my home. I live less than 100metres from the sea and Balvicar bay. A perfect area to explore Argyll from. The Island of Luing can be reached by a boat just 2 miles from my house. Easdale Island is 2.5 miles from my house. Seil is an inner Hebridean Island connected by the bridge over the Atlantic. This group of Islands is known as the ‘Slate Islands’.
Guests have full use of all common areas in my home and have a private bedroom with a bathroom for their own personal use. The common spaces are shared with myself and my two cats. My home is a special place to me and I look forward to welcoming guests here.
Balvicar is a village on the Isle of Seil accessed via the famous Bridge over The Atlantic. It’s a beautiful location less than 200m from the sea. The Isle of a Luing and Easdale lie a very short boat ride away. Ideal location for walking, cycling, kayaking, swimming and other outdoor activities. Small Golf course on the Island. Stunning location. Well stocked shop and Post Office 50metres away. Friendly rural community. Pub approximately two miles in each direction.
  • Beautiful location, easy to find, lovely and welcoming, breakfast options very kind.

  • If you book a couple of nights with Anna you do everything right, there is a lovely breakfast, two cuddly cuddly cats and an incredibly beautiful environment with numerous hiking, swimming and Schoppingmöglichkeiten! Anna is a very loving and nice hostess :)

  • The house has a lovely view of sheep pasture hills! The bedroom was sparkling clean with super comfortable beds. Anna was a delightfully friendly and accommodating host. We had a very relaxing stay here and greatly enjoyed our walks in the area.

  • We've had so much fun staying with Anna. From the first day we felt at home. She is so kind and fun. We didn't have a car so she helped us to sort out what we could do in the area and sometimes she drove us around or gave us a ride. We also enjoyed the company of her two cats, Loki and Inga. We give Anna 5 🌟 on al subjects! We are definitely coming back one day!

    Sabina2019-08-12T00:00:00Z
  • Anna is the most wonderful host. Quick to respond, helpful local tips and knowledge and such a warm and welcoming lady. Her home is truly amazing with stunning views and picturesque sunsets in the evening. Our room was spotlessly clean like the rest of the house. Anna made us the most delicious breakfasts each morning, complete with fresh bread and local preserves. I truly recommend staying here, we couldn’t believe what a wonderful place we found and loved every minute of it. Anna’s Norwegian cats were a bonus to our experience as my are both huge animal lovers. I have been recommending this air b n b to all my family and friends. Thank you Anna!

  • This was a beautiful location just 100m from the sea. it was peaceful and tranquil with lots of wildlife nearby. Anna made me very welcome in her lovely home and provided great local knowledge. The whole house was very clean and comfortable. Anna had a special touch in making her home interesting and stylish. Her communication was excellent. A lovely breakfast with homemade bread and jam one day and a more informal but excellent self service breakfast on the second morning when Anna wasn't available. I would highly recommend a stay there. Everything was perfect from start to finish.

Smart and cosy studio for the single or double occupancy of none smoking guests. We also have a superior double room in main house .Small extra supplement. Subtropical landscaped gardens with views seaward from deck. 30 minutes drive from the pretty ferry port town of Oban. The ancient Bridge Over The Atlantic provides easy vehicular access to the island of Seil Studio guests /double room have sole use of a power shower room/wc in the house see photos - (no shower/wc in the studio.
    DIRECTIONS - THE POST CODE PA34 4TR GENERALLY WORKS WELL ON A SATNAV TO GET YOU TO SEIL - BUT WILL DUMP YOU IN THE WRONG PLACE( re our home) We recomend you call our landline,which we can give you after confirming your booking ( NOT our mobile) on leaving Oban. Signal becomes less reliable,after leaving Oban. We will then know when to meet you at the carpark after the Bridge Over The Atlantic . On approaching Seil drive over the lovely Atlantic bridge and 'immediately' park in the Tigh An Truish pub carpark at the front and enjoy the view. We will meet you there to make sure you dont get lost as we are a bit difficult to find - so give us a ring when you leave Oban? and then we will there - probably in a little black Citroen. There is poor mobile phone signal generally on the island but there are vodafone hotspots at the pub (where you are),at the doctors (on the left halfway thro Seil) and the village shop at Balvicar - also I believe a little O2 and a little EE. {For guests staying for a week I can put vodafone users on our broadband system for 3g signal}
Clachan Seil is a quiet place with only the sound of the wind and waterfowl at night to lull you to sleep. It is a friendly place where people wave and say hello - if my car were to break down I know it wouldnt be long before someone would stop to help. Time has a habit of standing still here when i’m out walking or working in my beautiful garden - which you are welcome to enjoy. On a summers evening heavy perfume drifts through the garden so come stay with us and slow down to Seil pace! Enjoy our little piece of paradise. The local pub is just a 20 minute walk from us by the bridge, where you will find a friendly welcome - they serve food and good beers. There is an excellent Sealife Adventure trip within easy walking distance of our home at the bottom of our road.Boat trips take you out to see the Corrywrecken whirlpool where you may see all manner of sealife and birds including the magnificent sea eagle which locals call the barn door because of its massive wingspan. There are also trips to view wildlife from Ellenabeich on the other side of Seil 10 minutes drive from Clachan seil. At Ellenebeich there is a small folk museum about the slate quarrying that took place here and was the main industry for200 years. If you stay with us you will be able to hop over to the neighbouring islands of Luing and Easdale - both an easy 10 minutes drive to the ferry which take only minutes to cross. The new Atlantic Islands Centre on Luing is a lovely village hub that has cafe, shop, and museum - there are often concerts and events there to enjoy. Easdale island has no cars .The residents leave their cars on Seil and have wheelbarrows by the harbour on Easdale to bring their shopping home! It has a small pub and cafe serving excellent food.A good place to take refreshment after walking round the flooded island slate quarries circular walk with its spectacular views out to sea. There are also the local gardens of Ardmaddy Castle close by to Clachan Seil and An-Cala which are well worth a visit. There is a village shop and post office at Balvicar just 10 minutes drive away or 35 minutes walking. If the weather should be inclement ,snuggle ( courie),down in the wee cosy studio pod and watch TV or a dvd,and put a beer to chill in your fridge. We will put a nice continental breakfast in your fridge each day with fresh homemade bread, porridge for the microwave ,cereals, preserves, yoghurt, fruit, and juice/ coffee and tea, milk or soya milk etc plus there is a toaster. Just leave your dirty crocks out and we will put them in our dishwasher for you. If you require a cooked breakfast (small supplement) that can be ordered the day before. I will offer a small range of homecooked ready meals to purchase and heat in your microwave at very reasonable prices and I grow our own vegetables. If you have dietry requirements we can do our best to accomodate you. We look forward to welcoming you to our home
  • Thanks you Kimbra and Roger for such a wonderful stay. We were blown away by your amazing hospitality and all the trouble you went to in making sure our stay was a memorable one. The baked treats were amazing too! We will certainly be back

  • Absolutely wonderful and accommodating hosts , from the moment you arrive .The scenery is outstanding and treated like kings by Kimbra and Roger .All the food was homemade , and we were made to feel so welcome , a craft beer to relax when we first arrived and it was my birthday and Kimbra made a homemade cake with candles on it for the Saturday. Homemade scones , cream , choice of fresh fruit and homemade pastries in the morning for breakfast , myself and my girlfriend had an outstanding weekend , the accomodation spotlessly clean and a very friendly relaxing atmosphere .A lovely part of the world with a hostess to match :)

    Duncan2019-10-20T00:00:00Z
  • A lovely stay with wonderful hosts. The island is beautiful and wonderfully positioned. The accommodation is really thoughtfully out together and the hospitality offered us was consistently above and beyond what we were expecting.

  • Such a piece of paradise in the middle of nowhere! Even with very bad weather it is a gem. The studio is quite small, but has everything you need and even more. The bathroom is at the main house, but this is not a problem, if you aren't afraid of getting in contact with the hosts ;-) Kimbra and Roger have been more like good old friends from the beginning and I fell in love at first sight with King Dougie, such an extraordinary cat! As I haven't seen much of the area due to the horrible weather and my dear friend migraine, I need to come back to get all of it and I'm already looking forward to that! I also would give ten stars if they were provided! I'll be back for sure !!!!

    Mone Raven2019-10-08T00:00:00Z
  • We had a fantastic stay at Kimbra and Roger's beautiful home! The house was very clean, and they had really thought about little details to make our stay as welcoming and comfortable as possible; the bathroom had shower gel/toothpaste/shampoo etc, loads of clean towels and bath robes and slippers for us to use, and there was bottled water for us in our room. Kimbra treated us to delicious handmade baked goodies, freshly ground coffee and tea, as well as home cooked porridge! Their garden is stunning, with beautiful views, and their cat Dougie is just a delight! It was lovely chatting to Kimbra and Roger in the evenings, and they shared loads of useful tips and stories about the area. We hope to visit again soon!

    Kristina2019-10-03T00:00:00Z
  • Kimbra and Roger were great hosts. The studio itself had everything you need, TV, WiFi, fridge, microwave, kettle, toaster and was cosy and bright. Lots of lovely little touches too. There was also cereal and toast available for breakfast and all manner of lovely treats like fresh croissants and coffee first thing. They were chatty and friendly and made sure you really felt at home. I'd definitely recommend.

  • Charlie has been so helpful and caring since day 1 till the last day. This house is quite far from the Oban (where the Ferry Terminal is) but it was really clean and nice. Also, it suits very well for a group of family who wants to spend few nights to explore and discover the beauty of Isles of Scotland. The journey from Oban to Charlie’s house was really spectacular (a beautiful lake along the road) 👍🏻

  • The house is very stylish and has been finished to a high standard with a great layout. The view is spectacular from the kitchen and living room and as the light changes through the day you can spend a lot of time just looking out to sea! We arrived to a cosy space with thoughtful touches and Lee and Kirsty were great at keeping in touch to ensure our stay went well! The island has a circular walk which our wee dug enjoyed a lot, even in Storm Dennis. The islanders we met were so helpful and friendly too. Thanks so much!

  • We had a fantastic time at Chris's place. The location is superb, the view from the cottage is breathtaking. The house is in a quiet area by the sea. We explored a bit around the Isle of Seil and found it beautiful, a peaceful place where to spend the holidays. We used it also as a base to visit other Islands as well. The house has all facilities you could ask for: there is everything you need to cook, coffee machine, parking space in front of the house, dishwasher, WiFi etc. The bed was so comfortable, we had such a good sleep! I really recommend Chris's home to all Airbnb users.

This is a SMALL, BASIC bunk house, not a 5 star hotel! It does not have heating so think before booking it for winter! Bring sleeping bags & food. Bedding & cot available on request (£8 each) Microwave, kettle, toaster, plates, mugs etc. Toilet/shower. Easdale is quiet. We have a pub but only other nightlife consists of otters, birds and sunsets. No roads so leave car and take ferry. Views are terrific, people are friendly. Easdale is not just special, it's unique. Well behaved dogs welcome.
When I say "small and basic" I mean it! Think of it as posh camping! A 3 man tent is cramped for 3 people. This is bigger but it is still small. Most 3 man tents do not have an ensuite shower room with toilet!
  • Excellent stay, had two children and a dog and the bothy was prefect for a short stay. Close to the ferry and the pub and a good place to start a walk around the lovely island.

  • Excellent value for money. Loved the breakfast.

  • Perfect bolthole for sheltering from the west coast weather- simple, cosy and very good value. We had the bunkhouse to ourselves and Ruth was always on hand with anything we needed. It is tucked away in their beautiful garden but the views hit you as soon as you step outside.

  • A simple place to stay on an island with its own special character and history. The ensuite was top notch and the bed comfy. Great value and ideal when we were one bed short in the main accommodation. A very nice host.

  • great budget offer for its area. yes, its small, but very cozy. it's very cold so bring your thermals if you are coming in Winter), but apart from that, great hosts and great location on a fascinating island amidst wonderful scenery.

“Reay Cottage” has been recently renovated by the current owners. It has one double bedroom, living room/kitchen and a shower room. Easdale Island is unique in the fact that there are no cars. The back garden has breathtaking views of the islands of Luing, Scarba, Jura, Fladda, Belnahua, The Garvellachs and Mull. 'Reay Cottage' is the perfect romantic getaway or peaceful retreat. There is also a pub/restaurant and a community hall which hosts regular live entertainment.
“Reay Cottage” is an original slate quarrier's cottage. It is self-catering providing washing-up liquid, tea, instant coffee, cooking oil and vinegar, salt & pepper, a washing-up cloth, kitchen roll and a tea towel, so you won’t need to bring these basics with you. There is a fridge which has a small freezer. A microwave, cooker with separate grill and oven. There are all the utensils, cutlery, crockery, pots and pans that you need. One basket of logs, kindling, firelighters and lighter are provided for the wood burning stove for your use. No other materials must be burned in it, due to the nature of the fire. We therefore ask that you only burn kiln dried logs in this stove burner. If you require more, they can be bought at Balvicar Stores, which is two miles away on the adjacent island of Seil (en route from Easdale to Oban) and is well-stocked. There is a sofa, two arm chairs and a folding dining table which can sit up to 4 people. Two of the dining chairs are in the living room and an extra 2 folding chairs are stored in the hall cupboard. The bedroom is to the back of the cottage. Whilst lying in bed, you can hear the waves rolling onto the back shore. It has a cottage-sized double bed, (6ft X 4ft) and a double wardrobe with hangers and drawer space., where you’ll find a new hairdryer. There is a full length mirror behind the door for dressing. There is also an electric heater in the room with an attractive flame effect, which can also be used without the fire being switched on. This gives the room a cosy, romantic feel! 😉 There is additional hanging and storage space in a built-in cupboard in the hallway, which also contains a small chest of drawers. There is also a shoe and boot rack. There is an iron and a small table top ironing board. There are brushes, a pan and mop in this cupboard should you wish to use them during your stay. Cleaning and linen changes are only done after you leave, (FREE OF CHARGE) For people wishing to stay 2 weeks, there will be a fresh linen change, including towels after the first weeks stay. There is a hot water switch in the kitchen which must be turned on to supply water to the kitchen and bathroom sinks. The shower is electric and the switch for this can be found outside the shower room. Please switch this off again after use. *PLEASE NOTE* Reay cottage has a SEPTIC TANK! PLEASE DO NOT PUT ANYTHING DOWN THE LOO (apart from toilet paper provided). Sanitary towels, wipes, condoms etc, MUST be disposed of in the bin in the bathroom, beside the loo. The Seafari Adventures shop at Ellenabeich, (3 mins on the ferry over to mainland), stocks some basics during the tourist season, (March to November). The Puffer bar and restaurant on the island is popular with locals and tourists alike. The restaurant is small, so requires advanced bookings for food. They can be contacted via their website, or Facebook page.
Easdale Island has a small, friendly family community. It is one of the four slate islands 'that roofed the world'. It has many abandoned and flooded quarries and industrial archaeology features, including old engine sheds and tramways. There is a quaint and interesting museum on the island and another in Ellenabeich, telling the story of the islands slate heritage. One of the quarries at the back of the island is particularly renowned for swimming and diving. Easdale has a permanent population of around 60 people. Every September, it is the home of The World Stone Skimming Championship, which is held in the quarry behind the museum.

  • This gorgeous little place was exactly what we needed - quiet location, cosy and stylish inside, and generously stocked fridge! Would definitely recommend this if you're looking for something a little off the beaten track, but with the convenience of a store just round the corner and some eating places a short drive away. Mary made the arrangements very easy, and all the instructions needed were provided. We were sad to leave!

  • Mary's cottage in Balvicar is a beautiful, peaceful space to relax, unwind & get away from it all. Check in was quick & easy, and Mary had provided some thoughtful touches such as milk & eggs from local producers. We also enjoyed exploring the local area & it's stunning scenery around Seil, Easdale & Luing. Definitely would recommend & we hope to stay again!

  • If you are looking to stay in holiday accomodation in the Oban / Seil island area, this is the place for you. Situated in the village of Balvicar its ideally placed for exploring the "slate islands". The cottage is delightful and very well and tastefully equipped. Mary your host has thought of everything to make your stay as pleasant and comfortable as poossible. A real home from home.

  • We loved this dog-friendly cottage. The enclosed back garden and big kitchen were perfect for our pet. The bedroom and living room (with atmospheric coal fire) were also big and comfortable. The location is an ideal base for visiting Oban, but the local area was stunning and we wished we had stayed for longer. Don't hesitate. Book it!

    Richard2019-07-21T00:00:00Z
  • This cottage was quaint, comfortable and well equipped for our needs. We loved the island and this cottage was a great base to explore from.

    Emma2019-07-09T00:00:00Z
  • This is a light and spacious cottage with a cosy living room, peaceful bedroom and bright, extremely well equipped kitchen/dining room. Mary made sure that there was a good fire to welcome us after a long journey. Her suggestion of a morning's seaweed foraging on Easedale Island was a fascinating - and surprisingly tasty local activity! Other highlights included a lovely day spent exploring the neighbouring island of Luing, seeing a sea eagle on Scarba and experiencing the Corryvreckan in full spate with Sea Life adventures, and enjoying the delights of the wonderful gardens of Ardmaddy, Arduaine and An Cala. Mary's own garden at the cottage provides a charming place to sit out and enjoy your tea. Wildflowers abound in the surrounding lanes and fields and there are pleasant and easy walks right from the cottage door, over to Easedale or round the bay.

  • We had a great stay and Sue & Ray were super hosts. A very nice property with everything you could need and a generous welcome pack on arrival. Sue & Ray helped with local knowledge and the information on local walks & ferries to other islands was really helpful. Highly recommended for a relaxing stay in a great location.

  • Our stay at Ealachan Bhana on Seil was wonderfully cosy and comfortable. The apartment has been beautifully designed and appointed, and everything is most thoughfully provided for. In fact we found we were happy to stay in most evenings - the apartment is such a lovely space to inhabit! Sue and Ray are extremely knowledgeable about the area and gave us useful tips for walks in the vicinty. They also provide a map and lots of leaflets with suggested activities. A perfect base for exploring the Slate Islands and Argyll.

    Gill2019-10-05T00:00:00Z
  • Gorgeous location, delightful hosts, apartment spotless and as described. We arrived just as Ray was going out for a (fast!) run, and I joined for an impromptu tour of the island. Magical. Highly recommended, even if you don't run.

  • By far the best Airbnb experience I've ever had. Ray and Sue were wonderful hosts, such genuinely kind people with so much knowledge of the local area and further afield. We were given a welcome basket of local goodies and some fantastic wine upon arrival. Every effort was made to make our stay special, even chocolates in our bedroom! It was my birthday during our stay and they even dropped a birthday card round. My partner and I are hoping we will return next Summer for another excellent stay. Thank you Ray and Sue 😊

    Emily2019-09-11T00:00:00Z
  • Really lovely cottage, spotlessly clean, bright and airy, equipped with everything we needed for our stay, with lots of thoughtful extras. Sue and Ray were both really welcoming and helpful, with suggestion for our stay.

The Mary Heather offers a unique opportunity to stay in an 35 year old Rotherclass life boat on the shores of Cuan Sound. Situated on Argyll’s rugged coastline, this is the ideal location for kayakers, walkers and those wishing to enjoy the peaceful surroundings. The Mary Heather is nestled into the bay along with the Alexandra lifeboat, both part of our small campground facilities here at Cuan Ferry.
The Mary Heather has 6 berths, each with a reading light, charger point, pillow and pillow slip, we do not provide linen however we can provide a sleeping bag with liner for a small additional charge. The Saloon has a central table with seating, galley has a 4 ring hob, grill, oven, microwave, toaster, kettle and fridge and a small sink with cold running water. Crockery, pans and cutlery are all provided. The covered area at the entrance to the lifeboat provides an outdoor sitting and drying area. The toilet, shower, scullery and drying facilities are situated in our uniquely designed timber cove approximately 30 metres from the lifeboat and are shared with other campground guests.
  • The Mary heather is the perfct place for the sea lovers. The landscapes are lovely and the boat is comfortable.

  • I booked the Mary Heather for a few friends for a kayak training weekend. The novel accommodation was ideal for us. Comfortable bunks, plenty space, effective heating and a galley kitchen with everything needed. The adjacent shower cove is ideal too. Highly recommend.

  • Excellent place to stay in a beautiful location. Great stay.

    Paul2019-10-26T00:00:00Z
  • We loved this unique place to stay so much when we stayed for a night in Jan that we came back for a second stay (this time two nights). My two sons are already demanding to know when we'll be back again. The lifeboat is in the perfect location for children. Although Cuan Sound has very fast-flowing tidal waters this is great fun to watch with all the swirling. Luckily the shore next to the lifeboat is much safer and there's a fab rocky beach with shallow water and a small stream which keeps young children amused for hours. Add in lots of switches, a steering wheel and radio etc in the boat and that's entertainment sorted. The lifeboat itself is very well equipped, the toilets are located just a short walk away and the shower and toilet block is very clean. The owners are very helpful if needed but give you space to enjoy your time there. My kids fell in love with their collie Cuan and were all for smuggling him home... they walked him and played with him which was lovely. The only downside is I had to listen to two hours of my boys begging for a dog all the way home!! Of you've got a sense of adventure this is the place for you.

  • Had a great Trip. Stunning location and accommodation. Great clean handy facilities. Highly recommend. Certainly a unique place to stay. The 2 dogs looked after us well!

Rockpool Cottage is one of two four star self-catering cottages located in the beautiful 200 year-old conservation village of Ellenabeich just half an hour south of Oban.
The cottages are set in a beautiful west coast fishing village in Argyll, south of Oban and offer easy access to the main tourist hotspots whilst offering a wonderful, peaceful base for your holiday. The conservation village of Ellenabeich, with its whitewashed cottages was built to house workers at the local slate quarries, but the industry collapsed in 1881 when the sea broke into the main quarry pit – the flooded pit can still be seen. The Scottish Slate Islands Heritage Trust displays fascinating old photographs illustrating life in the village in the 19th and early 20th centuries. To the north the scenic landscapes of Lochaber and the Outdoor Capital of the UK including Glencoe are within easy reach. To the south the historic highlights of Kilmartin Glen and the Crinan Canal whilst inland there are the joys of Inveraray with its magnificent castle and visitor attraction Jail together with interesting shops offer a great day out. Oban is the main hub and ferry port is also the gateway to the isles of Mull, Iona, Lismore and Kerrera to mention just a few. The local area also offers many outdoor activity opportunities including wildlife spotting, boat trips, scuba diving, kayaking, horse-riding and scuba diving for the energetic! More relaxing pursuits of exploring the rich heritage of the local area can also be enjoyed. Castles, gardens, beaches, woodlands and wonderful walks and gently hikes are within easy reach as is fishing and gold. So, plenty to enjoy and while away your days.

An Rubha Holiday Cottage is a relaxing, 3 bedroom holiday cottage situated on the charming, car-free island of Easdale, near Oban on the West coast of Scotland. Comfortable cottage accommodation offering stunning views towards Isle of Mull and the Firth of Lorn, the ideal place for a peaceful break! The property is spread over two floors and downstairs comprises of an open plan living area with open coal fire, digital TV, DVD/CD players and a selection of board games & books. There is WiFi available throughout. The kitchen/dining area is equipped with dishwasher, washing machine, fridge-freezer, microwave, ironing board and iron, and cooking utensils. The cottage sleeps 5 - 6 guests in three bedrooms, with the first double bedroom being located on the ground floor. A children's travel cot and highchair are available. On the first floor are two further generous double bedrooms and the family bathroom, complete with a heated Easdale slate floor and free-standing bath.
Extensively refurbished in 2015, An Rubha Cottage offers modern living, comfort and unrestricted views across the Firth of Lorn towards the Isle of Mull. Due to being on such a small island, with only around 60 permanent inhabitants, there is a great sense of community and a warm welcome awaits any visitor. The property is a great place to watch the sunset and or rise over the Island but more than that it's a place of peace and tranquillity, the roaring of car engines is replaced by the calls of birds and the crashing of waves.
Easdale is separated from the neighbouring island of Seil by a narrow channel that is crossed on a five minute ferry ride from Ellenabeich. Originally home to large slate quarries, Easdale virtually emptied in the decades after commercial quarrying ended early in the 20th century. The new century brought a new lease of life together with a growing population and an active community spirit. The island boasts a unique community hall and is home to the annual World Stone Skimming Championships each September. Many of the old workers' cottages have been restored, one of which now houses the interesting Easdale Folk Museum, near the main square. Walking is the best way to see the island (you can walk around it in under an hour) - in fact, it's the only way as Easdale has no roads.
  • We had an amazing stay on Easedale! The cottage is amazing. Although it is quite small (for 5 or 6 people), it is very comfortable and has amazing views of the sea from every window. It is well heated and is therefore also a great option for colder months. The kitchen is very well furnished which makes cooking in this lovely kitchen a lot of fun. The landscapes around this little island are just beautiful, it is a truly special place! I would come back any time!

    Anna2019-08-20T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great stay on Easdale and loved every minute. It's a great house and a beautiful location

    David2019-07-25T00:00:00Z
  • The views out the front and back of this property are superlative. And I mean superlative - etched on the mind forever type of views. Sit on the far side of the island with some binoculars and a little patience and you can see wild otters. We did, and that was just awesome. This Airbnb is a place to unwind and reconnect with the world. The property is renovated to very high standard, but is pretty tight. Could be cosy, could lead to cabin fever. There is no convenience shop on Easdale Island. Bring toilet roll, bar soap and anything else you don’t want to do without in case there isn’t any in the let. You will likely pass the Tesco in Oban on your way - stop and pick stuff up! The Puffer restaurant on the island requires reservations for evening meals in the restaurant area, but not the bar. You CAN eat on the island. (And drink draft Tennents or a wide selection of whisky). It is run by an agency not a person - this means it is very well managed, but impersonal.

    Paul2019-06-30T00:00:00Z
  • Great location near the Easdale ferry slip with views across the harbour. Very tidy and stylish interior, comfortable and warm with modern touches. Highly recommended as one of the bigger houses on Easdale for larger groups and families.

    Felix2019-06-24T00:00:00Z
  • Another great stay on beautiful Easdale. An Rubha had everything we needed for a comfortable stay with 2 small children and we would definitely come back. Highly recommended!

    Fiona2019-02-28T00:00:00Z
  • This is a fantastic cottage on a secluded and very quiet island. If you need to relax and wind down, this is the place. Outstanding hospitality and great communication with the hosts and their friends and neighbours. The accommodation is comfortable, warm and spacious. Highly recommended.

    Richard2018-10-31T00:00:00Z
  • A great escape! We even had school children coming home from school on the ferry with us, carry our bags up to the cottage.. they said “everyone helps each other on Easdale”. It is an adventure worth taking!

    Mo2018-08-24T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed on the Island of Easdale in the cottage An Rubha for three nights and loved every minute. The cottage has sea views to both side and is located approx. 1 minute from the pier. We enjoyed cooking in the kitchen which is well equipped and we slept comfortably.

'Number 10' is located in the heart of the village of Cullipool, on the slate Island of Luing. It has been fully renovated recently. The original part of the building was built around 1800 with the extension being added in 1980. It was originally a 'but & ben' (2 rooms) built to house the workers of the slate quarries in Cullipool. The view from the garden speaks for itself with views across the Firth or Lorn to Mull. 'Number 10 has a lovely enclosed garden, the perfect place to relax.
A holiday on Luing will leave you feeling relaxed and rested.
Luing in a small island with a local shop supplying most of your shopping needs. The local Atlantic Islands Centre has a cafe, small retail area selling local crafts and an excellent History Exhibition area.
  • Alison's cottage is a really great place to stay. It is very comfortable, beautifully finished and has everything you need. It's lovely garden overlooks the sound of Luing with spectacular views to Mull. A thoughtful collection of books and documents tell all about the islands industrial history and the story of the boats and sea journeys of the west coast. I loved reading about the puffers. The islands itself is just lovely, perfect size for exploring on foot from the front door. The cottage comes with a really handy guide to some walks on the islands. We saw dolphins at both the tip at Cuan Ferry, and the toe at Aird Luing overlooking Scarba, which was particularly spectacular as it was a large pod fishing. The village of Cullipool is a quintessential slate mining village with low bright white single storey cottages, well preserved and a great environment to just potter. The Atlantic Island Centre is 1 minute walk from the cottage, it serves great cake and coffee and we were lucky enough to enjoy an evening performance by Tibetan monks in full costume. There is also informative display about the slate islands, history, geography and wildlife. We will return. aaaaaabsolutely
