    Colleen2020-01-13T00:00:00Z
  • Bhakti is an excellent host who goes above and beyond for her guests. For example, in the afternoon I was meant to arrive it was over 41c in Lorne. We both were concerned about the weather and kept in communication throughout the day as to when the best time to for me to arrive. Fair to say when overall I had a very relaxing and peaceful New Years. :)

    Renae2020-01-01T00:00:00Z
  • Bhakti’s place was wonderful. It’s in a beautiful location about 7 mins drive from Lorne. The space is quirky and unique but with everything you need for a comfortable stay. We enjoyed being visited by the local bird life and being surrounded by nature. Bhakti was lovely and very accommodating and left thoughtful touches (chocolate brownies) for us to enjoy, as well as offering eggs freshly laid by the resident free-range chickens. The cottage is a great stay and excellent value. Thanks for having us!

  • Cosy cottage situated on a beautiful hillside property. Just a stone's throw from the nearest beach and just far enough out of town to feel like you're getting away from it all. Hosts were gracious and have created a warm and inviting atmosphere. Very much enjoyed our stay here

  • Great communication, great relaxing location. Enjoyed our stay!

  • The location is rustic and peaceful - just what we were looking for as a re-charging opportunity. And being situated between to Lorne and Aireys Inlet provided a good variety of places to go and dining experiences. Thanks very much, Ian and Helen.

  • Our stay at Yan Yurt Farm was a treat. From the warm welcome we received on arrival, the walk around the farm, our visit to the Cobb house (a must see) and chatting around the camp fire with new friends. A cosy bed at the end of a long day followed by a delicious breakfast next morning consisting of home made muesli, freshly baked bread, fruit, and yoghurt. Our visit to the more than a century old wool shed was an education as was watching Andrew tend his sheep. The farm has been in the family for 6 generations so you will get all the information on the local area from Jill and Andrew. The home itself is a comfortable homstead style, spacious and rustic with creature comforts. Ideally located a short drive to Lorne and the Great Ocean Road.

    Rosemary2020-03-09T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great time at the farm. Each day started out with a nice breakfast with freshly baked bread. Jill and Andrew provided lots of local tips of what to see and do in the surrounding area. Learning about their 115 year long history on the farm as well as the farm tour was a highlight. The entire family is very dedicated to the environment which was great to see. Definitely recommend staying here, something different from the typical Great Ocean Road stays!

    Anja2020-02-11T00:00:00Z
  • A very good place to be for just some days when you need a break or also for a longer stay.

    Gela2020-02-06T00:00:00Z
  • This is a working farm and if you want to learn about sheep farming and experience rural life this is the place for you. Great hospitality, good breakfast. Quick to respond to emails and gave good suggestions about local attractions. Would stay again.

    Heather2020-01-28T00:00:00Z
  • We enjoyed two great days at Yan Yan Gurt. The hospitality of Jill and Andrew is exceptional. We felt very welcome at their home. Their way of living and managing the farm is very inspiring. The room is cozy and the shared kitchen clean and well equipped with everything you need. The breakfast that Jill and Andrew provide is just a perfect start into the day: fresh peaches from their trees, organic yoghurt and bread, jam, butter, etc. We definitely recommend everyone to stay their - it is a perfect place for making unforgettable memories.

    Daniel2020-01-08T00:00:00Z
  • Jill’s farm is about 1 hour driving from Lorne and we caught one of the most amazing sunset on the way to the farm. The stay was really cosy and Jill welcomed us warmly, it is perfect for road trip and people like farm stay.

    Jing2019-12-28T00:00:00Z
  • Great place great people ! Lovely time together !

    Stan2019-12-24T00:00:00Z
  • Jill is a wonderful host with a friendly demeanour who made us feel very welcome. The room was clean and spacious with a comfortable bed. We shared the bathroom with the family but at no time did we feel uncomfortable. There were ample options for breakfast that Jill had put out for us and she also has an awesome tea mixture that she makes herself. This is a working farm and we appreciated everything that Jill provided.

We have everything you need, just pack your bags and you are done. • Fully equipped kitchen and laundry • Deck with outdoor setting and BBQ • All linen and towels • Wild bird seed available to treat the king parrots, cockatoos, kookaburras and crimson rosellas visiting from the forest. • Speakers with cable and Bluetooth for your own playlist. • Plenty of information and ideas of where to eat, drink and activities in the area.
  • It's such a gorgeous place with an amazing view. The view down the valley was exceptional and we spent most of our time on the deck. Felt very secluded and relaxed and had a perfect getaway from the daily hustle and bustle. It was a unique, beautiful, fascinating place and we enjoyed every minute of our stay. Bring plenty of food so that you don't have to leave the place during your stay 😁 Had everything we needed. Cosy, clean and full of handy amenities. Loved the library too. Caroline was very helpful, easy to reach and communicated everything clearly. Checking in and out was easy. Overall it's a hidden gem. Worth the stay. We love it and would love to come back again soon. One of the best places we have been to. Definitely recommend the place. Thanks Caroline 😊👍

Our space is a converted barn and private bathroom on our 34 acre Deans Marsh property. The property is in the north eastern foothills of The Otways, 10 minutes drive from Deans Marsh General Store. There are seemingly infinite views over Victoria's Western District to the north and north west from the barn and front lawn area. There are some Pinot Noir vines, some paddocks, and a treed gully and you're welcome to wander around the whole 34 acres.
The barn sleeps up to 5. It has a king sized bed, a bunk bed and a single trundle and is ideal for couples or families with up to three kids. There is a coffee machine with pods, bar fridge with milk, toaster and basic cutlery and crockery in the barn. So no real "kitchenette" or cooking facilities although you can use our BBQ on request. The bathroom is in the adjacent house, accessed via a covered walkway and private entrance and is exclusively yours for the duration of your stay. My husband, Andy, and I live in the main house with our 3 kids and 2 Boxers - Basil and Polly. The house is right next to the barn so you'll see and hear us from time to time. Internet access in the area is poor. We have a satellite connection but can only offer wifi access to this in emergencies because the monthly quota is so low. The only good option is Telstra mobile. Reception is poor or non-existent for other mobile carriers. Please note that we are flexible with guest numbers up to a maximum of 5 but that guests additional to the number booked are charged an extra $15 per person per night. Infants are excluded from this if you bring a portacot and bedding.
Deans Marsh is approximately half way between Winchelsea and Lorne, to the north of The Otways and around 100 minutes from Melbourne. The Deans Marsh Store is the epicentre of Deans Marsh and has good healthy food, coffee, local wines, beers and produce in addition to staples. Lorne is just 22 minutes drive from Deans Marsh and has a great beaches, restaurants and cafes and recreational attractions such as Live Wire Park. Forrest is also a hub for recreational activities such as mountain biking and bushwalking. There are wineries, berry and olive farms in Deans Marsh and the surrounding areas of Bambra and Pennyroyal and quite a vibrant dining scene in Lorne, Birregurra (Brae!) and Forrest (Bespoke Harvest, Forrest Brewing Company, etc.) And of course, The Otways themselves with superb waterfalls, open Eucalypt forest and amazing cool temperate rainforest.

Your dog can have a holiday too! Send me a message for more details. Apartment not suitable for schoolies or parties.
Lorne is situated on Victoria's Great Ocean Road, an easy 2 hour (approx) drive from Melbourne. Lorne is a unique coastal town in Australia located within the Otway Ranges. It has stunning natural beauty within a north-east facing, forest covered, amphitheater. Yet, the town also has a sophistication not experienced in many other coastal areas. The commercial area is contained within one main street that provides all manner of boutique shopping, a cinema, and high quality cafe's and restaurants. Given the Grand Pacific Hotel is located just meters from the apartment, its hard to go past for great ocean views, quality meals, craft beer, and friendly service. We also love 'Ipsos' a Greek restaurant with a long family history in Lorne and 'Movida' (a Melbourne Spanish icon) which has expanded to the lower level of the Lorne Hotel. The quality restaurants include Mexican, Japanese, Indian, Italian and an iconic burger joint called 'Bottle of Milk'. The best breakfast is probably at the Swing Bridge Cafe, located literally where the Erskine river meets the ocean. If you like eating on the beach, the Beach Pavilion has fantastic food with great winter specials. Good coffee spots abound in Lorne - try 'Moons', 'Swing Bridge Cafe', 'HAH'.
  • This place was well appointed, very comfortable and in the perfect location. All you have to do is walk across the street towards the pier and turn left and there’s a lovely path that goes right along the ocean, and there’s also a path that goes along the road. So you’re away from all the noise but easy walking distance to everything you want and if you don’t wanna walk too far there’s a hotel just a couple feet away that you could eat at or have a beer or glass of wine and watch the ocean.

    Teri2020-03-04T00:00:00Z
  • This was perfect for what we wanted, great location, easy to navigate and so close to the pier. The space was very clean and amenities were great too.

    Susan2020-02-13T00:00:00Z
  • Very cute and comfortable space, with most of Lorne easily within walking distance. Immaculately kept, and thoughtful little touches made all the difference for an enjoyable stay.

  • Lisa and Marty’s place is in a great spot near the pier and a short walk down to the beach and shops. They’re great hosts - very quick and helpful responses. The place is spotless and stylish, and there are lots of thoughtful touches - fresh bread, milk, butter, jam, coffee, etc. We’d definitely stay again if we could!

Unique 3 bedroom house in beautiful Birregurra. Only 3 minutes drive from Brae. Walk to the local pub, restaurants and shops. Play cricket, kick the footy or have a hit of tennis on the recreation centre across the road. Bring your clubs for a hit of golf and hit the surf only 30 minutes drive. Enjoy the local outdoor market every second Sunday of the month which has everything from hot food, ice cream, local fruits and vegetables as well as hand made produce. Charming country atmosphere.
3 bedrooms, large full kitchen, large living/lounging space with wood burning fire, comfortable leather couches and chairs. Lots of books to read or music to listen to. Relaxing, comfortable beds with extra bedding/blankets. The house has a story to tell. Originally it was built as a large industrial shed for local furniture maker Rodney Gray. Little bits were added on here and there including a show room (which is now the kitchen) then later a bigger show room ( now the living room ) other bedrooms were tacked on as required. The house is apart of the shed however it is completely walled off. Rodney was quite a well known character about town, often referred to as “The Gray Rat” as he was rather thin and spent most of his time amongst timber shavings. He dedicated a lot of his time to community projects, one of such the famous Birregurra Weekend Festival. Sadly he ran the festival from a scooter cart as his illness was beginning to take his life, determined to see out the festival he was and with great success. He is sadly missed. If you go the Royal Mail hotel feel free to ask any of the locals there in the bar about Rod and I’m sure they’ll happily tell you all a yarn or ten!
Across the road there is the Birregurra recreation reserve which includes football oval, cricket pitch and tennis court. A lovely stroll to the golf course. 2 blocks from the main st of Birregurra and 3 minutes drive to BRAE. 5 minutes walk to the Main Street So much to do in Birregurra and only 30 minutes drive to LORNE.
  • We absolutely loved our stay here. The house was absolutely gorgeous, very clean and tidy. Hosts were lovely and communication was fast. Would definitely stay here again :)

  • I had a great time staying at Nikky's place in Birregurra. I really enjoyed the large living space, cool objects and personal flair. You get the sense that the place is a work-in-progress but it's already good. Nikky made me feel right at home with easy check-in and check-out. Just 100 or so metres from the main Birregurra street too, so you easily walk to the local restaurants and pub.

30 acres of magnificent Otway Forest just 15 minutes from Lorne. Attractions include our walking track with creek and scenic views. Enjoy our native parrots and kangaroos. This place is great for family holidays or a couples getaway. Each cabin has its own special views, wood burning BBQ and outdoor setting. All cabins are set far enough apart to maintain privacy. Secluded, romantic getaways or just peace and quiet at a budget price.
  • We loved our stay at Phil and Christine’s place. Phil is so friendly and knowledgeable about the local area, with great tips on where to eat. The property is gorgeous and plenty of local wildlife to keep you entertained. Nice to switch off and enjoy the bush. Thanks Phil and Christine!!

    Gemma2020-03-09T00:00:00Z
  • Such a stunning location! Phil is a delight - he is so positive, helpful & and just an all round top guy. If you love nature & being surrounded by beautiful birds, roos & wildlife, the cabins are for you. The cabins are very clean and fully functional. Only a 15 minute drive into Lorne centre - one night Phil arranged return taxis for us which was super helpful. Would definitely recommend as it is such amazing value for money!

    Liss2020-02-27T00:00:00Z
  • It’s a nice spot over there - to be in the middle of nature, but with all the basic comforts inside the cabin. A short drive to Lorne for a morning coffee or evening dining. Best suited for those who want to almost completely retreat from the noice and distractions of modern city life. Even Internet is not available, unless on the bad mobile network connection.

    Chris2020-01-16T00:00:00Z
  • A chalet in the heart of the forest, birds of all colors on the balcony, kangaroos and exceptional calm. Phil welcomes you with a smile and informs you about the activities in the surroundings. At disposal there is a table tennis table, a basketball hoop ... We had a great time.

Quiet semi rural location - close to town - 10 min riverside walk to cafes, shops, historic sites.
The main photo is one of the three rooms that we have available. The guest rooms are situated towards one end of our comfortable neat relatively modern home. The house is situated on 5 acres, close (but not too close) to the edge of town. It's only a 1 minute walk to the Barwon river with a short shady walk to shops.
Our home faces onto a small natural reserve and is only 1 minute walk from the Barwon river and walking tracks and cycle paths. Our neighbors are few and far between but they are always happy to stop and chat. Local pool is only a 5 minute walk away. Pool is open 12-6pm every day in summer. BRAE restaurant (famous for its chef and organic cuisine) is 20 minutes drive. Major beaches Bells Beach, Point Addis, Torquay, Anglesea, Lorne are within 35 minutes drive. Geelong with its waterfront, shopping, arts and entertainment precincts is only 35 minutes drive from here. We recommend people take time to look around Geelong before heading out to Winchelsea. From here visitors can drive the Great Ocean Road in a day - from Torquay to Peterborough and back - having time to take in the major attractions - Erskine Falls, Apollo Bay, Johanna Beach, Otway Fly, Cape Otway Lighthouse (and its Koalas), the Twelve Apostles and Loch Ard Gorge. Some people just keep going to Warrnambool and beyond - but for those with limited time this is a good place to start, stop and rest, before heading off to Ballarat or back to Melbourne.
  • A great setup with the guest wing being at one end of the house. Great for kids with toys supplied. The beds were super comfy!

Located less than a minutes walk from Fairhaven Beach and Surf Lifesaving Club, abutting the Great Otway National Park, our self contained units are within walking distance to the Split Point Lighthouse, Great Ocean Road Arch/Memorial, shops, cafes and restaurants. With the Fairhaven SLSC being a much sought after venue for weddings and milestone birthdays, our close proximity also makes us an ideal place for family and guests to stay.
Each unit is open plan with a queen sized bed, a kitchenette with electric kettle, toaster, microwave, fridge, dishwasher and a bathroom. Internet, TV and DVD are also included. https://www.airbnb.com.au/rooms/16899601?preview (Check out our other unit above)
Come stay on the Great Ocean Road and experience lifestyle most Australians only dream about. Fairhaven/Aireys Inlet has all the attractions without the crowds. We have cafes, restaurants (if you can't manage to catch a fish), and our local pub where you can watch sunsets and hear stories of great fishing prowess. The surfing and swimming are sensational and if you can drag yourself from the beach, the Great Otway National Park has all sorts of native wildlife and wonderful scenery or you might like to take advantage of other activities including horse riding, mountain and road bike riding, photography, bush, beach and clifftop walking and light house tours.

Spacious and cozy accommodation available especially for vegans and vegetarians. Ideal for couples or groups. Quiet and peaceful. Situated on 200 acres and surrounded by the Otway forest. Half an hour from Lorne and the Great Ocean Rd!
We are situated on 200 acres in the foothills of the Otway ranges, and are surrounded by the Otway forest. There are kangaroos and king parrots residing on our land, and there are beautiful nature walks on and around our property.
We are half an hour from Lorne beach, one of the most scenic beaches in this part of Australia, and the Great Ocean Road; and there are around a dozen amazing bushwalks and waterfalls a short drive away.
  • It is a divine place with some amazing hosts (which includes all the animals as well)!! We enjoyed our stay.

  • We stayed just one night. Carl was really punctual with communication. Provided very clear directions on how to get to the place. (Recommend arriving during day light. We couldn't find a light outside by the car park and the light above the front door wasn't working). Everything was set up for us when we arrived. Heaters in living area and in the room so was nice and cozy. For our stay it was perfect. Thank you.

  • We went with a family for a weekend stay, it was amazing place n had great memories over there. On Sunday afternoon, we were there for Keertan and feast as well. Met wonderful nice people, very blissful after the Keertan and saw healthy Desi cows. The only issue is very poor signal and no internet, tv. I believe everyone there for a specific reason, so no issue with signal at all.

Located right on the river, your cottage is a short stroll along the river to the beach, lighthouse, cafes and restaurants. You’ll love sitting on the deck with the river view or the private courtyard to enjoy the birdlife. Purposely built for a couple, (sorry no children or infants) however I do welcome guests from all walks of life, solo adventurers and business travellers. The kitchen is well equipped, large lounge/dining and spa bath to relax. Great for holidays/weekends or overnight.
The lounge/kitchen or outdoor deck is a perfect spot to relax, watch a movie or enjoy the beautiful view of the river and hills beyond. Many people walk along the river or fish just opposite, such a popular spot, the envy of anyone not staying.
Water views without the crowds but you will love to see others enjoying the river.
  • Fantastic location directly on the river, lovely little 'cottage' with total privacy and nice fenced rear garden too. Simple check in and quick communications. Easy walk to pub, amenities and lighthouse. Thank you (:

The cottage is in a perfect location in Airey's Inlet. The living room and bedroom have a lovely, uninterrupted view of the river. This rustic cottage is a renovated stables which still holds a lot of rustic charm. It sits at the rear of the property which houses the main Victorian cottage, a guest house and also the Stables Cottage. This is located at the rear of the property and set aside from the other two dwellings, and is located in the orchard garden. It is a romantic place for two.
There are peacocks that roam around the property and they have a habit of sitting on the cottage roof at night. If you are not happy with that please let us know and we will cage them during your stay.
We are located in easy commute 30 minutes to Lorne, Anglesea and are 10 minutes from Birregurra
  • Lovely comfortable stay in a quiet spot off the main road, nice and clean and cosy with some cool touches and all of the comforts one would need for a rural getaway.

  • What a lovely place! We had a peaceful Valentine’s weekend at this cosy cottage in Winchelsea. It was 5’ drive to town centre with IGA and takeaway shops. It was on a huge farm with peacocks, chickens, sheep and a very good looking horse. We surely didnt miss any technology like TV, wifi or even tempted to touch our phones, it was a perfect getaway.

    Misa2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • What a perfectly charming place! I loved it from the minute I drove up to it. It is a stylish space, beautifully furnished in a French provincial style with beautiful artwork on the walls. The garden is a source of inspiration although still a work in progress and yet to develop into a mature garden. Seeing the peacocks at the front door in the morning is simply the best way to start the day. I spent a very restful night there and hope to come back again soon.

A gorgeous original timber millers cottage,. Lovingly restored as holiday accommodation retaining all its character and charm. Kero has beautiful timber paneled windows overlooking the George River. relax and enjoy the tranquil surrounds.
  • Kero cottage was the best place to stay for a little getaway from the city! It’s a little secluded which was lovely, but also close enough to everything that we were able to make the most out of what Lorne has to offer. The profile photos do not do it justice...The cottage is adorable and it’s surroundings are beautiful. Would recommend for a short stay for a couple or small group/family who are keen to enjoy some peace and quiet :)

  • We absolute loved our stay at Kero Cabin, it was really cozy and peaceful with the river running out the front and being surrounded by trees and greenery. The cabin itself was super clean and comfortable. It felt like we were deep inthe forest despite only being a 5 minute drive from the town. Lastly Charles was super helpful giving us local tips on some great walking tracks.

  • Great location, and a surprisingly spacious interior for a single or a couple. There's not much of a view, but the convenience of being right in the centre of Lorne more than makes up for this.

  • I contacted Melissa last minute and she was more than helpful. She met me on arrival, gave me heaps of local tips. She didn’t have anyone arriving the next day and let me stay back all day. Couldn’t recommend it more. Small back yard, but the location is so great, we were down by the river the whole time. The river is literally across the street! With rope swings. Very cool. 5 minutes from the beach too. Place was squeaky clean and welcoming. 6 stars

A cosy light filled self contained studio in the trees. This property offers the perfect opportunity to switch off in nature, and is ideal in both summer and winter.
Anglesea is a very special place, surrounded by spectacular natural beauty in its coastline, beaches, and bush. The Anglesea Heath is also one of the most biodiverse ecosystems in Victoria. The Shack is cosy and comfortable in both warm and cooler weather, and makes for the perfect lo-fi experience, where you can unwind and relax in nature. The light filled, self contained Shack is set at the very back of our block amongst the trees, about 20 metres from our house, where we live permanently. There are fences on 3 sides of the shack, for your privacy. The Shack is open plan, with a small kitchen, one queen size bed, a lounge and a bathroom. The kitchen is set up with a bar fridge, an induction cooktop and basics for cooking. There's a split system for heating and cooling. On the deck you will find a bbq. Linen and towels are provided, but we ask that you bring your own beach towels. We have a very friendly and well behaved Border Collie called George. He goes to work with Drew on weekdays, however he will be at our house on weekends and weekday evenings
The shack is in Anglesea, a beautiful little town on the Great Ocean Road. It’s a great base to explore the stunning coastline around Anglesea, or further along to Lorne or the 12 Apostles. The shack is located in a quiet and bushy area of Anglesea, just near the golf course, famous for its huge mob of eastern grey kangaroos. It is around a 2 km walk down to beautiful Anglesea beach, Point Roadnight, the river, and playgrounds. If you’re keen to spend time outdoors we have lots of information on hikes, bike rides and things to do in surrounding coastal and inland towns. The main street is a 5 minute drive away, where you will find coffee shops, bakeries and the supermarket. If you’re new to the area, we have made a list of all our favourite places to eat and drink and will leave this out for you.
  • Absolute pleasure staying at this beautiful place! Will definitely be back.

  • We had a wonderful relaxing break in this beautiful shack. It was full of special artistic touches, clean and quiet. We especially enjoyed going to sleep looking at the trees surrounding the property and waking up to the songs of birds. We highly recommend it!

    Sylvia2020-02-24T00:00:00Z
  • Catherine's place is beautifully designed and surrounded by gorgeous gums and other native bush. It really is beautiful and has every thing you need for a short stay. We stayed for a few days and cooked at home one night. We had terrible weather whilst we were staying but it was still nice to watch the weather through the big windows whilst we were cosy and warm inside.

    Shauna2020-02-20T00:00:00Z
  • We had a lovely stay and Catherine was a wonderful host! The shack was very private and we felt like we had our own space. Will definitely be coming back in the future!

Really private, Lovely deck, Big Views. Nordic cool aesthetic with stunning ocean and garden views 4kms from Lorne. The Cabin is a hand built, open plan and fully self-contained space that sleeps two. It features a stylish timeless interior with many quality design pieces and is perfect for a serene getaway. The Cabin's a hideaway that understands its commitment to the environment.
There is one luxury bedroom that has a plush handmade solid wood Queen bed with luxury linen, a dresser, wardrobe and stunning leather couch with soft luxurious cushions. There is everything you could want to feel spoilt and have a romantic farm escape. If you’re a couple or travelling solo, the Cabin is the perfect haven to experience seclusion and privacy. The property has beautiful gentle slopes that lead into deep tree fern gullies and over the next 16 years we developed an extensive landscape of European and Australian native plants, shrubs and trees, which is ever changing with the seasons. The farm garden has now matured. You will find an abundance of herbs, some fruits, foliage and flowers, which are picked annually and are grown using organic practices. We hope that others will get as much enjoyment out of experiencing The Cabin as we have had creating this special place.
Kangaroos live in the area, the big greys, you will see them mostly dawn and dusk. They will be active on the property so don't be afraid, do not approach them. Our friendly Kookaburras, they will come and sit by you on the deck waiting for slithers of fresh meat only.

Nestled into 200 acres of natural bush Babenorek Studio overlooks open farmland and rolling hills. Constructed from Lime rendered Straw Bales it is cool in summer and warm in winter. We are 3km from Deans Marsh & 22km from Lorne & The Great Ocean Rd.
PLEASE READ ALL OF THE INFORMATION ABOUT OUR PLACE BEFORE BOOKING ESPECIALLY REGARDING SOLAR POWER AND ENVIRONMENTAL TOILET. We want you to be comfortable during your stay and suited to the accommodation that we provide. Babenorek Studio was hand built by us and a builder friend 15 years ago to live in with our 3 young children while we built our family home close by. It is constructed from Lime rendered Straw Bales so the walls are extremely well insulated making it cool in summer and warm in winter with no need for air conditioning. The use of recycled timbers and building materials is prominent through out the building. As well as being an important part of our sustainable building ethos these materials add to its rustic, homely appeal. There is an internal rendered mud brick wall and an earth floor in the living room. Upstairs is a QS bed with your choice of a feather or woollen doona and 2 single beds. Downstairs there is a gas oven for cooking and a Nectre wood fire for warmth which can also be used to boil the kettle or cook soup on. A small fridge will store enough food and drinks for a few days. A spacious bathroom with a waterless composting toilet and a shower is adjacent to the kitchen/living area. There is also an outside shower to wash the sand off when you return from the beach or cool off under on a hot night.
Deans Marsh is a small rural farming town situated on the edge of the Otway Ranges. In recent years it has developed into a creative and vibrant artistic community with Open Studio weekends, Gallery's and live music playing regularly at local Wineries and the infamous Marshian's Café. You can link up with the historic Coal Train walk at our front gate and there are many other walks and waterfalls nearby in the beautiful Otway Ranges. Restaurants, cafes and The Deans Marsh Store all offer good local food....and Dan Hunters restaurant Brae is in the nearby historic town of Birregurra if the budget allows. There are two Berry Farms a short distance away that operate seasonally. The magnificent coast and all it has to offer are a scenic 25 min drive away through tall rain forest.

  • What an unexpected gem this fantastic little cottage was. Secluded in the best possible way, we had the most amazing country getaway. Courtney was incredible helpful and communicative, offering tips to fill our days with berry picking, local markets and amazing restaurants (including the incredible Brae). Will absolutely stay here again and hopefully soon as I’ll need to stock up in more berries! Also, don’t leave without stopping at “The Store” for a pie. Or even better, take it home to eat on the porch at the Nook!

  • We absolutely loved our weekend at Surfdogz!! Our hosts were very welcoming and came to say hello on arrival. They even had our favourite chai tea in the coffee/tea selection, and a beautiful bottle of champagne which we also enjoyed! The bed was very comfortable and fitted with electric blankets and the bathroom was bigger than we expected (included a hairdryer) and the shower was like heaven!! We even managed a few games of connect four, and there are plenty of board games and dvds for inbetween adventures. We had beautiful cockatoos and kookaburras in the trees above us and beautiful birds waking us up each morning. The accommodation is with in walking distance of town, if you don’t mind a bit of a steep hill. It took us about 20 mins! We will definitely come back when we are planning our next weekend in Lorne. Thankyou very much for having us :)

  • Wow, what a great time we had at Surfdogz! Although we did not bring a pup with us, we certainly appreciated all the dog touches throughout the apartment such as the dog themed bath towel hooks! Steve and Sheryl kept the place sparkling clean, check in was super easy and it was really close to the shops! I would highly recommend staying here and would definitely go again!

    Lucinda2020-02-14T00:00:00Z
  • This was a great place to stay. The hosts were generally prompt and very accommodating with their responses. The furnishings were great, and the space comfortable, with a range of DVDs to watch if one is so inclined. There is a private driveway, and the unit is self contained and spacious for a couple. There can be some upstairs noise during the day (footsteps) if you are one to sleep in, but very minor detail.

    Simon2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • Steve’s place was a great place to stay. Great location, place was private and self check in was easy. Steve’s apartment was clean and comfortable. Great for overnight or even a few days. Steve himself was lovely. When we arrived he come down to say hi and introduce himself and was very accommodating for us and our dogs.

Plenty of fabulous restaurants and cafes along The magnificent Great Ocean Road offer excellent local produce and wines in lovely settings. FAIRHAVEN is the perfect place to base yourself for access to the 12 Apostles, Otway forest waterfalls and the Otway Fly, Apollo Bay and Wye River and the gourmet food trail. Fairhaven is centrally located- 25minutes from Torquay and 15 minutes from Lorne and Anglesea. All towns offer extensive shopping and dining options. There is a general store at Aireys Inlet (2 kilometres) that has a good supply of groceries and beers/wines. The Aireys pub serves excellent meals and sells takeaway beer/wines too. A La Grecque is a superb restaurant, One hat in Good Food Guide. Little Feast is also excellent. Onda and MrT do the best coffee on the coast, the Lighthouse Stables Cafe is an amazing location. Truffle's, The Captain and Aireys Fish n Chips round out a great offering of local options. Our favourite weekend coffee is a bike ride to Lorne and the idyllic Swing Bridge Cafe right on the sand. Movida (Spanish tapas) and Ipsos (Greek) are the two top spots for quality food. Maple Tree and Marks restaurant also highly recommended. In Anglesea the standout is the new Captain Moonlite restaurant at the Surf Club, with great views over the beach, and the Golf Club is also a good secret, along with the large population of kangaroos. They do Roo Tours during the day.
