Places to stay in Bampton
A rustic stargazer where you can fall asleep watching the stars and wake up to the sound of birdsong! A rural spot, far from street lighting, the sky lights up on clear nights. Simple, basic, but unusual accommodation. This is a wooden A-frame structure with enough room for two to sleep in with a mainly glass roof.
Where else can you stay in a stargazer?! Our large Devon stone house in a quiet valley on the edge of the pretty village of Holcombe Rogus, surrounded by countryside. The house is half a mile from the village, which has a small shop, a garage and a pub. The Prince of Wales pub does pub food as does the Staple Cross Inn which is about 3 miles away. (food not available every day) Both Dartmoor and Exmoor, and the north and south Devon coasts, are about an hour away, and there are plenty of pretty walks close by, including the Great Western Canal. The cathedral city of Exeter is 40 minutes away, and the market town of Taunton 30 minutes. Nearby Wellington and Tiverton have a range of shops and supermarkets. There is quick and easy access to the M5 at both junctions 26 and 27, and is a 15 minute drive from Tiverton Parkway Train station. We also have available a single room. Please see separate listing.
  • Neat star gazing opportunity in a warm and relaxing way. Lovely quiet place.

  • Simply amazing with lovely hospitality. Couldn’t have found a better place to stay surrounded by beautiful nature. Thank you again Tess and Richard!!!

    Charlotte2019-09-21T00:00:00Z
  • COSY, FUN AND QUIRKY! My partner and I thoroughly enjoyed our night in the little stargazing hut! Tess and Richard were kind and friendly hosts, and made us feel very welcome. We had the use of a private bathroom during our stay, with a lovely hot and powerful shower, and the conservatory to keep our bags in. Tess and Richard very kindly allowed us to bring our Thermomix, so we spent the Saturday evening sharing their kitchen, as we cooked a Mushroom Risotto, and enjoying a chat with them. So much nicer than going to a restaurant! In view of our dietary preferences, we used our Thermomix on the Sunday morning, too, to make a green juice and smoothie. Richard also made us a loaf of homemade malted bread, which was lovely. Cereals and preserves were also on offer. The stargazing hut itself was very cosy, and there were plenty of duvets to keep us warm. A fun way to sleep under the stars, and a very enjoyable experience all round!

  • We loved our stay with Tess and Richard who were wonderful hosts and made sure we were comfortable and had everything we needed. The hut was great and we could see so many stars and ended up downloading a stargazing app so we could tell where the constellations were, just beware of a few small friends if you’re frightened of bugs/spiders but they kept to themselves. Would highly recommend for a few night to just chill out and spend some quality time away from busy day-to-day life.

    Rachel2019-08-25T00:00:00Z
  • Tess and Richard were very welcoming and relaxed. The star gazer was very cosy and a lovely space to stay. I would thoroughly recommend a night there!

    Lydia2019-08-15T00:00:00Z
  • We very much enjoyed our stay at Tess's and Richard's place as well as their warm hospitality.

    David2019-07-28T00:00:00Z
  • Exactly what it said- lovely star gazing hut with cozy vibe. Intentionally basic to not distract from nature & starry nights. We had a lovely weekend

    Luis2019-07-21T00:00:00Z
  • Tess & Richard are fabulous hosts, really helpful with tips on where to eat etc during our stay. The hut is lovely and cosy - plenty warm enough with the extra duvets we were given. Lovely breakfast too, and really useful to have use of the conservatory for storing belongings, and enjoying the evenings. Overall a fab trip, and was really happy to meet such lovely hosts!

  • Was a lovely space, large dining table in a high topped ceilinged room. Lots of sleeping space, nice and quite surroundings. Highly recommend Just be careful on the track down to the barns, if your car is slightly lower like mine you may knock the underside of the car.

  • I really enjoyed my stay at the barn. I was looking for somewhere to stay and do some work free from distractions and this was perfect. Ali had started a fire before I got there so the barn felt very cosy from the moment I arrived. Kitchen has everything you need to make a proper meal, and the hot shower was great. I was a little worried about coming down the 'steep and bumpy' driveway but in the end it was no problem for me in my little hatchback! Thank you Ali for a lovely stay.

    Cecilia2019-11-25T00:00:00Z
  • Great location and amazing little barn. This was a great place, off grid, perfect for writing. I really enjoyed animals around and the log burner. I highly recommend the place.

  • We Loved our long weekend stay at Beverleys accomodation. Location is quiet with beautiful views but not far from all major routes so it was easy to find. Beverley was so helpful with tips on local places to eat & local walks. Animals on the farm are very friendly, especially the cats. Hot tub was a real treat. Comfy bed & everything you could need in accomodation. Would thoroughly recommend staying here

  • Really nice cottage in the middle of nowhere, would definitely recommend if you would like some peace and quiet. The hot tub was amazing 👌 extremely nice and outstanding host, didn’t hesitate to offer her help when needed (we forgot milk). Pictures could have been better but it was a nice surprise to see the place in real life. *****

  • Very clean comfortable private accommodation, hot tub under the stars with lovely countryside views, Beverley a great host nothing too much trouble to make your stay special

    Gary2020-01-26T00:00:00Z
  • We absolutely loved the house, the setting is stunning and the hot tub under the stars is perfect even in January! Beverley looked after us so well, and the animals are super friendly.

    Julia2020-01-21T00:00:00Z
  • Such a fab place! I'd looked online for log cabins with hot tubs but there wasn't the option to stay for 1 night only and they were SO expensive. Pretty glad I found Beverley's place on air bnb! So much better than a log cabin! A beautiful 1 bed guest house with a huge bedroom and bed. So warm and snuggly and lots of Christmassy touches which was cute. The hot tub was... INCREDIBLE!! Plus lots of animals around outside which we loved. We will definitely be returning!!

    Kerry2020-01-03T00:00:00Z
  • We had a lovely time, Beverley was very welcoming and explained everything and the view was stunning. It was a shame we only had one night and no time to explore locally as it all looked so beautiful.

  • Our stay at Annie’s was short but sweet. The space was clean and stylish, with a cozy log burner and luxurious bathtub, big well stocked kitchen and just an all around well designed space. The bed was incredible, we slept so well! There were so many goodies and thoughtful touches too... fresh flowers, apple juice, etc. Her gardens are beautiful even this time of year and it was lovely to stroll through and birdwatch. Annie is generous and kind and really took the time to make us welcome; her and I had a nice long chat one rainy morning about her work and the property and their apple processing... it was lovely. Would definitely stay again and would definitely recommend!

    Laura2020-03-05T00:00:00Z
  • Great place to stay, lovely personal touches and really nice space to relax in. Private, clean and all the amenities you need. We brought our own logs for the fire, but no need as they have lots and it was perfect for the chilly evenings! We especially enjoyed the Canal walks and a pint at The Globe pub after 😊 thanks for the homemade apple juice and nibbles Annie 💖

    Madeleine2020-02-24T00:00:00Z
  • A lovely place to stay! super cosy with the log burner, nice little touches with the chocolates and homemade apple juice! Would highly recommend a visit!

Eden lodge is perfectly situated as a jumping off point for much of the south west. However, in these extraordinary times we felt it might be reassuring to understand what extra measures we are taking to avoid any potential contamination, however unlikely. Check in: We are now operating a remote check-in policy to reduce physical contact. We will phone you on arrival to check you have settled in and briefly run through a verbal meet and greet. We will email instructional video clips to help explain the property in more detail. Unfortunately early check in or late check out will be suspended for the time being as we need all available time to carry out the additional cleaning. Keys should be left in the door and will also be throughly cleaned. Cleaning: We have always felt a little uncomfortable leaving any of the cleaning to anyone else so carry our all cleaning ourselves (and have done for some time) this gives us the peace of mind that no corners have been cut and the high standards are maintained all times. All laundry is also done in house using anti bacterial additive. The idea being the fewer people involved the lower the risk. For extra security all cleaning is now carried out while wearing rubber gloves and a surgical mask just incase we are carrying the virus and are not yet showing any symptoms. Between every guest we: Fully deep clean the property. Anti bacterial or bleach products used on all cleanable surfaces with extra care taken with all handles, cupboard doors, taps, switches and tv controls etc. All floors cleaned and treated with anti bacterial products. Throws and cushion cases washed. Cushions, sofa and rugs sprayed with anti bacterial solution. Pillows, duvet and mattress sprayed with anti bacterial solution. Hot tub: All exterior surfaces cleaned with anti bacterial solution. Filters changed Non chorine shock added Slow release bromine tablets added Advice from the CDC (Center for Disease Control) on any transmission through pools and hot tubs is as follows: “There is no evidence that COVID-19 can be spread to humans through the use of pools and hot tubs. Proper operation, maintenance, and disinfection (e.g., with chlorine and bromine) of pools and hot tubs should remove or inactivate the virus that causes COVID-19.” Please note: (Especially returning guests) We have had to drastically reduce the amount of complimentary items we traditionally have provided. All condiments, oils, tea and coffee have now been removed for obvious reasons. We will still limited qualities of dish washer tablets, washing up liquid, toilet rolls and hand wash or soap. Please don’t hesitate to ask if you have any questions or need further information, we are more than happy to discuss anything in greater detail as required.
Set conveniently between north and south coasts and two national parks (Exmoor and Dartmoor) it is an ideal jumping off point for daily adventures. If staying local there are many walks and local pubs to explore. The lovely local town of Wellington enjoys several great cafes a brilliant independent cinema and selection of independent retailers along with a three small supermarkets (including Waitrose)

    Roberta2020-03-10T00:00:00Z
  • We had a lovely time at Eden Lodge! First came a warm welcome, first by by message - with lots of hints and tips, as well as directions that reassuringly matched up to the sat-nav; and then in person, to show us around. We arranged for a guest last minute for our first night and our hosts were very accomodating. After that we had the place, and the countryside to ourselves. First night we got some Devon cider in us and spent far too long in the hot tub. Once it was down to the two of us we cracked open our welcome message and plotted a course for the canal path, and on the one day of sunshine we had a picturesque stroll to make it to Sampford Pev, get refreshments at the Globe, before heading back before dark. We also stopped at the Prince of Wales on the way back, but were a little disappointed to find they had the kitchen closed for some time. Nice place though and got to meet some very cute doggos. Returning to the lodge we soaked our tired feet and legs and got the fire going for an amazing night's sleep. The rest of the trip was miserable weather so we either cwtched in the warmth of the stove with a book and some Netflix, or warmed up in the tub whilst watching the birds brave the weather to get to the feeders. One of the most relaxing, wholesome holidays ever.

    Adam2020-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • Really lovely accommodation in such a peaceful setting. The hosts have gone to great extent to make the lodge as tranquil and secluded as possible, not overlooked at all. Dog friendly with a secure garden, log burner and good heating so still warm and toasty in January. Hot tub has great views and we enjoyed a spot of star gazing. Would certainly recommend and would love to return in the future.

    Hana2020-01-19T00:00:00Z
  • Our stay was everything we could have wanted, wished and hoped for. So glad such a lovely place is dog friendly it wouldn’t have been the same without bringing our pooch! Thank you so much !

  • Loved our stay at Eden lodge. We stayed over Christmas and was the perfect get away. Lodge looks exactly as pictured and was lovely and clean. We were met by Corinne on check in who showed us around and even bought us some yule log and mince pies which was a lovely touch (and was very yummy). The dog loved the garden which is large but secure so we didn't need to worry about her getting out (shes a Springer spaniel so is a good at these sorts of things) she loved roaming the garden while we lounged in the hot tub. Couldnt have asked for a nicer space to spend Christmas. Hosts are lovely, we didn't want to bother them too much but when we did they were great. Already thinking of returning in the summer!

    Rhys2019-12-27T00:00:00Z
  • WOW- what a beautiful place surrounded by fantastic scenery. Everything was immaculately clean and the fire was even lit when we arrived. They met us when we arrived to let us in and give us lots of information, even some suggestions about things to do. They then left us to it for the whole weekend. Our dogs had a wonderful time exploring the gardens and the surrounding walks. There was WiFi, catch up tv, log burning fire, all sorts of kitchen facilities and was extremely cosy over the winter season. Was perfect for a pre-Christmas getaway for my family and will defiantly be coming back.

  • What an amazing little spot!! Complete peace and quiet, just the sheep baaa’ing and the owls twit twooing at night!! Weather changes quite quickly, foggy-clear-raining so just the luck of what you get! Plenty to go exploring- lovely walks and scenery! Nice local pub not to far with great homecooked food. Karen was great and kept our drinking water topped up and the facilities clean :) Compost loo and outdoor shower quite the experience! Log burner definatly kept the hut warm, most of the time to warm to which we needed the cool breeze from outside to come through. If you want get back to basics this is the one!!

  • Absolutely beautiful shepherds hut, placed in a gorgeous valley! We had the best nights sleep with the wood burner keeping us so toasty warm, whilst being in the peaceful countryside. Definitely recommend Karen’s cabin for a quiet country getaway! Small tip is to remember to bring breakfast with you, as it was a drive to the closest shops and a bit difficult to cook anything in the cabin in winter-we definitely want to return in summer to use the BBQ and eat out under a starry sky! Thank you for being such a lovely host Karen!

The cottage has electric heating and a wood burner and is set within a fenced driveway and garden. A BBQ is supplied for guests' use. Dogs are welcome.
  • Wonderful. 10/10

  • The great place to stay and close to local pubs and restaurants. Lovely decoration and very comfortable

  • We had a wonderful stay at The Garden Cottage. All the added extras such a coffee, milk, eggs etc were very much appreciated and made life so much easier. The Garden Cottage was very clean and tidy and was the perfect pit stop for our one night stay after a long drive down on the way to visit friends.

    Jonny2020-02-22T00:00:00Z
  • We only stayed one night at Garden Cottage but wished we could have stayed longer! Perfectly located near to great local amenities and lovely walks, such a lovely spot to unwind and completely switch off. Clare had thought of everything, with special touches throughout. A wonderful, peaceful (and spotless) cottage with everything you could possibly need. Can’t wait to go back!

    Heather2020-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • Just returned from a three night stay in this lovely cottage in the sweet village of Bampton. Lots of lovely walks in the nearby National Park. Clare was fabulous host and the cottage was warm and cosy. The dogs loved it too!

    Clive2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • What a little gem! Perfect location in the village and close to lots of great eateries. Lovely fish and chips from the local chip shop, breakfast at the Toucan (super dog friendly) and evening meal at The Swan. The accommodation was immaculately clean and well equipped. We were slightly worried when it said electric heating but they were efficient heaters rather than night storage heaters and kept the place really cosy even during Storm Ciara. The woodburner was lovely for nights in and Clare kept us topped up with logs. Perfect base for us to explore the area with our dog. Thank you Clare.

    Tori2020-02-12T00:00:00Z
  • Cosy, beautifully furnished and in a handy location close to the village and walks, what’s not to love about this cottage? We visited in January and so the log-burning stove was a highlight for us. Clare made us welcome and the complimentary groceries were a surprise and much appreciated. Would definitely recommend.

    Bill2020-02-01T00:00:00Z
  • A cosy and spotlessly clean cottage for 2. Clare was so thoughtful and provided all the essentials (and more) for our stay. Fantastic communications and we would highly recommend to any couple wanting to visit the area...

You are welcome to make coffee and tea in the kitchen and help yourself to bread from the bakery next door. If the weather is nice, the garden offers a great place for breakfast. There is a small bedroom with a sofabed which can be booked in addition to the double bedroom - This cannot be booked without booking the main room.

This is a newly refurbished Annexe - light and airy with a new shower room and adjoining WC. There are tea and coffee making facilities with essentials provided, and a fridge for your convenience. The property is situated ten minutes from Tiverton and two minutes from the A361 - the main route in to North Devon and Exmoor, and North Cornwall. Extra service: we welcome your dog at an extra charge of £5 per night. If there is more than one dog, please chat to us first
The property is situated on the edge of Exmoor in an elevated south facing position with stunning views towards Dartmoor. It has a large level dog proof garden and no near neighbours. Rolling farmland and woodland are a feast for the eyes!
The property is positioned midway between the two villages of Stoodleigh and Oakford, both pretty villages with pubs and churches. The area is tranquil and rural with spectacular views - yet not isolated. Tiverton is a ten minute drive away with shops and supermarkets and a railway station. There are many walks from the property - particularly of interest to those guests that bring their canine friends!
  • We stayed here for 4 months after we sold our house before moving to the Midlands. As a long let, Sarah added extra amenities i.e. a fridge, armchairs, microwave, heater to make our stay during the winter months cosy and homely. The accommodation was cleaned weekly with fluffy fresh towels. Sarah was a great host, contacting us regularly to make sure we were happy. The views were amazing and we would not hesitate to recommend Sarah’s place for short or long stays.

    Karen2020-02-28T00:00:00Z
  • I stayed just one night at Sarah’s place as I was going to a friend’s party nearby, so unfortunately I didn’t spend that much time there. It is a really lovely place, with fabulous views from the deck outside the room; it would be perfect for a longer stay especially in the summer when you could sit out there in the evenings! The room itself was great, with a very comfortable bed, plenty of storage, and a decent TV (which I didn’t watch but did use as a radio while I was getting ready to go out). The small lobby area has a kettle, fridge and the makings of tea and coffee, and there is a beautiful shower room and separate toilet. Everything is stylishly decorated in relaxing tones, and was sparkling clean.

  • What a wonderful place to stay, as you drive down a small bumpy farm lane you come into a place where time stands still. No wifi, no mobile phone reach. You hear the birds singing and the farm animals, but most of all quiet. Very good value and plenty of comfort, with woodburner, fresh flowers, a fully equiped kitchen, completely selfsufficient and the whole barn for yourself. Would definitely come back!

  • This is a great spot for exploring the surrounding area or for finding quiet solitude. Ali made me feel welcome, checked in on me, and also gave space. She's an awesome host and a caring person. There are excellent walks right out of the door and the countryside is just beautiful. It's definitely best to have a car for exploring, but Ali was awesome about helping me get to and from Wiveliscombe for supplies during my time at the cart shed. The kitchen was well set up for cooking, the living space was warm from the radiators even without the log burner, and the shower was piping hot.

Charming, rustic cottage by Exmoor, on Somerset-Devon border. This spacious cottage is in a relatively secluded riverside spot in the heart of the thriving, foodie village of Bampton. Features include: large kitchen-diner, book-lined living room with wood burner, beautiful garden, orchard views and big bathroom. There are two double bedrooms and one bunk room (full sized mattresses + trundle). Ideal country get away for adults and families with kids (travel cot, toys & trampoline). Dogs welcome.
Cosy surrounds but relatively spacious cottage including large communal dining area directly flowing from kitchen, spacious living room with wood burner and study with orchard views. The two double beds are standard doubles. The bunk beds are standard singles - suitable for adults or children - and there is a third trundle bed underneath. The house does not have a TV or dishwasher. Wifi works well throughout. Overall the cottage is very family friendly, fitted with toys, cot, highchair, etc. But guests with young children do need to mind the stairs and ensure children don't escape out of the garden gate and to the river. They must also read the rules on safe use of the trampoline and take responsibility for any accidents. Dogs are welcome.
The cottage is set in a conservation area in the picturesque village of Bampton in rural Devon. There is great access to Exmoor and lovely country walks from the door. And the river Batherm wraps around the bottom of the garden - don't forget your river shoes if you you enjoy a wade. Bampton has great amenities and a wide array of local produce available. Shops include a bakery, a butchers, a game pie shop, a butcher, a gallery featuring local artists and a green grocers. There is also a Costcutter which is open 7 days a week. There are three pubs including The Swan which features in the top 50 Gastropubs nationally, a restaurant with wine bar - The Ginger Peanut, a fish & chip shop and family-friendly options Toucan cafe and Bridge House. Beyond Bampton, there are endless options for day trips on Exmoor, including Wimbleball Lake with its wild ponies and Dulverton - both about a 15minute drive. Exeter is 50minutes away and you can reach beaches on north and south coast within 50-60mins. We like Saunton Sands on the north and Lyme Regis on the south. More local tips can be provided on booking.
  • Beautiful cottage, amazing village with easy access to groceries, firewood and other necessities. Very well suited to families with children to include a wide variety of books and toys. A definite joy to stay and Jodie was a fantastic hostess!!

    Tabitha2020-01-18T00:00:00Z
  • Jodie's cottage is lovely, cosy and right in the heart of Bampton. The big kitchen table is a great place to sit and have a coffee in the morning, and the beds are very comfortable. Jodie was really helpful with check in and was able to just leave the key for us to collect and let ourselves in. For anyone staying with a dog, it is worth noting in advance of the stay that dogs are not allowed upstairs (the layout of the house means this is quite easy to shut off) and that the garden is only accessible across a path shared with neighbours and through a gate - so you'll need to go out and open the gate for the dog, not really an issue but useful to know.

  • What a magical spot and a gorgeous cottage! We had a wonderful stay, exploring the Exmoor National Park and had some delicious meals in The Swan pub which is a 5 minute walk. There are lots of nice little shops in Bampton. The cottage is beautifully done and the garden is just as big as it looks in the photos. We’d love to come back in the summer to enjoy the river that flows at the end of the garden! Jodie is a really friendly host, always communicated promptly and made some great suggestions for the local area. Highly recommended!

  • Incredibly helpful hosts. Lovely clean property in a beautiful location. House has everything you needed, especially with young children. Beds were incredibly comfortable. Overall a lovely stay

  • We absolutely loved staying at Jodie’s place- a beautiful, comfortable cottage with an amazing garden in a nice village in Devon or the edge of Exmoor. We would love to stay again in the future.

  • This is a great spot. We visited with our two children and we all had a truly wonderful time. The house is quiet, comfortable, and surrounded by nature. The garden is beautiful, and the stream is great fun for wading. The kids reported that wading around in the stream was the highlight of our whole trip to England! The location of this house is really nice. It is close to all the amenities of Bampton, but it still feels like it's surrounded by nature and offers plenty of privacy. Our hosts provided plentiful information about the house and local area, and were available to answer any questions. Highly recommended.

  • Bampton is a very friendly village and the local shops, pubs and restaurants are a pleasure to use. We loved the tranquility of the village and the location of the cottage and made good use of the lovely cottage garden. We had everything we needed and it was the perfect base for us to explore North Devon and beyond. We immediately felt at home and it was the perfect place for a small, young family.

  • Lovely house, perfect space for a relaxing family stay. Jodie is a great host and makes everything easy and hassle free. Great garden and perfect space to have a lazy bbq by the river.

  • Everything about Jane & Chris's place is great, from their lovely cute and friendly dog Bumble, to the super shower, and log fire in the private living room. The place is in a gorgeously historical location, next to a ruined mill, where it would be great to sit in warmer weather. Jane was very attentive, and made sure we always had everything we wanted, but we were left to enjoy our privacy too. Couldn't have wished for a better experience. Highly recommended.

This cosy, spacious apartment forms part of The Old Butchers - a large property home to an arts and crafts studio. We are located in the heart of Uffculme, a pretty village with two pubs, a café, fish and chips bar and two local shops. The area is great for dog walking, hiking, fishing and cycling with the river Culm close by. Uffculme is close to junction 27 and mid distance between Exeter and Taunton with a nearby rail link at Tiverton Parkway.
The flat at The Old Butchers is a self-contained annexe with an entrance via the craft studio at the front of the property. Don’t feel shy about looking around the studio! You’re welcome to use the extra space for colouring or other crafty pastimes!
Our village has a square with a cafe and a Co-op where everyone parks! The centre features little cottages that meander through narrow roads, past a medieval church and down to the river Culm. An old working wool museum named Coldharbour Mill is just a short walk from the property down an old mineral line.
  • The flat is a beautiful well thought out space cosy and comforting, as in the way it's furnished. It is a good size and has everything you need for a nice relaxing stay. Lisa kindly supplied some food basics which is a very thoughtful and much appreciated touch. Lisa is a fantastic host very friendly and welcoming and its such a treat to be able to look at all the lovely art work as you pass through the studio. I'd highly recommend this place for a little get away or if you are needing to stop by the area. Local shop just a minute walk, cafe and chip shop also pub. So a great little location. I hope to be back again one day soon.

We went for dinner the first night at the Ashill inn and it was delicious food, would definitely recommend. The accommodation does offer exceptional value for money and if you’re looking in this area I can’t imagine there’s a much better choice!

  • Lisa’s place is utterly charming. A gem, Sparklingly clean. Stylish eclectic and vintage decorative pieces, all combine to create cosy space with everything you need for a comfy stay. We stayed one night and it was absolutely perfect. Delicious sup at nearby Ashill Inn - smoked haddock scotch egg with curried mayonnaise so yummy. So lovely to have milk in fridge teabags and breakfast things Thankyou Lisa

It’s a really lovely, comfortable space and actually much more spacious than I was expecting. I only wish I could have stayed a few more nights! Highly recommended.

A traditional 600 year old Devon longhouse in the heart of the countryside, we are surrounded by unspoilt rural views , a real getaway. The lower half of the cottage is self contained for guests, there is ample parking, a front herb garden and the back has a cottage style garden with picnic table and great views.
At first you enter a part cobbled passageway wide enough for a cow! Then enter a large triple aspect living space which has the usual mod cons with a relaxing area in front of the woodburner. Up a winding staircase with rail ( my dad can easily get up these, he's 86!) there is a shower room and 2 bedrooms, a double and a twin.
Bampton is the nearest village (approx 5 miles) where you will find a baker, butcher, fruit and veg shop and 2 small convenience shops. There is also a fish and chip shop, several pubs, coffee shops, restaurant and deli. Our nearest pub is 3 miles away, the Staple Cross Inn, offering good food at weekends.
  • A great place to stay with all that you could want for a base on a long or a short break. A really cosy little place in the country.

    Jim2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage is absolutely beautiful, so well kitted out, warm and comfortable, in a truly beautiful area. Marilyn was very welcoming but it felt very private and we didn't see her after check in. Thanks to Martin for tipping us off about our car light being left on or we'd still be there! Kind of wish we were...

  • We stayed here for a new years eve escape. the cottage is beautiful, it has tons of character and many original features, whilst being very spacious and cosy. Marilyn had thought of absolutely everything, from helpful tips to light the woodburner, to leaving us a box of mince pies - much appreciated after the journey! the setting is very rural with dark skies, but easy enough to reach shops and restaurants by car if desired. thanks again for a lovely stay, Marilyn!

  • We loved our stay at Combe Head cottage and hope to be back. It was everything as described, and more. Super peaceful, exactly what we were looking for on our two day stop over. Some essentials left for us for breakfast (eggs, bread, milk, tea, etc). Good access to Exmoor and all it has to offer and a local pub just down the road with good pub food. Jane and family were friendly and outgoing, while giving us plenty of space as if the cottage was our own.

A lovely self-contained ground floor flat within an old farmers cottage. Bright spacious lounge, fully equipped kitchen, shower room, double bedroom and outside patio area. Canal walks, town centre and large Tesco all a short walk away I am sorry but I can no longer accommodate pets at present.
The flat was converted in 2014, featuring brand new fittings throughout. It is a comfortable size for a couple, with a particularly nice bright lounge and a decent size fully functioning kitchen with a fridge freezer and a washing machine. I am happy to leave bread/ milk cereals for breakfast. there is a wi fi connection.
Canal Hill is a pleasant road with a mixture of old and new properties, mostly detached. It hosts the entrance to the Great Western Canal (100m from the flat), which offers pleasant canal-side walking and a horse drawn boat in the summer. Tiverton is well located for visiting the beautiful Devonshire countryside, and the north and south Devon coastlines are both within driving distance for enjoyable day-trips. The historic cathedral city of Exeter is accessible via a pretty 30 minute drive through the Exe Valley countryside or via the motorway if you prefer. Night life in Tiverton itself is fairly quiet but there are a good variety of pubs and restaurants to keep you entertained. There are also several country pubs within a short driving distance. Bickliegh Mill is a lovely coffee/ gift shop and restaurant located a short drive away in the Exe Valley. The Fisherman's Cot is a popular pub on the River Exe with a beautiful outdoor seating area offering riverside views of Bickleigh Bridge.

  • A lovely stylish cottage, little touches like a bottle of wine left for us was a great surprise! The gated entrance to the drive meant we could let our dogs out of the car without fear of them wandering onto the track. The drive is quite a tight fit - we drive a Ford Focus and it was fine but be careful if you have a long vehicle in the winter as the grass opposite will have to be used for your turning circle. TV, DVD player and wifi available, though it was lovely to be Technology free and actually read a book! A lovely little home from home!

  • A lovely, clean, well presented home to stay in with everything that you need. The location is very peaceful and has a wonderful view where we were lucky enough to see ponies and red deer during our stay. The location is also ideal as the moor is not far away to enjoy lovely walks. We also enjoyed several lovely meals at the local pubs in Dulverton. We had a wonderful stay and hope to return.

  • Fantastic stay, huge and spacious cottage with nice view of moor from courtyard. Cosy and comfortable with lots of space for dining and living room. Tucked away from the sleepy Dulverton village along a narrow winding country road, the location is a perfect getaway. Very nice welcome gift of Chardonnay coupled with essential kitchen supplies. Amy was also kind enough to recommend cafes and shops for local produce which we found excellent. And the communication throughout was perfectly smooth. Would love to come back. Highly recommended.

Wisteria Cottage is a cosy weekend B & B in the heart of the picturesque town of Dulverton, situated on the southern edge of Exmoor National Park. The one double room is in a private annexe, so you can come and go as you please. The room is warm, quiet and features an en-suite shower and wc. Breakfast is included in the price, featuring homemade artisan breads and you can choose between the traditional Full English and other cooked breakfasts such as Eggs Benedict and Huevos Rancheros.
The fact we only cater for one party of guests at a time means that the atmosphere is very laid back – we want our guests to have a really relaxing stay. We take our time in preparing breakfast just the way the guests want it and the guests can take their time to enjoy it.
Dulverton is the perfect base for exploring all that Exmoor and the surrounding areas have to offer. The town itself has a selection of good pubs, restaurants and cafes, so regardless of whether you have been for an all day hike, a 50 mile bike ride or you’ve just been browsing the local shops, you will not be short of choice for places to satisfy your appetite or quench your thirst. There are plenty of independent shops where you can buy everything from locally produced cakes and pasties to gifts, clothing and items for the home. There is also a supermarket for those essentials. Once you leave the town, you can then enjoy the scenery that Exmoor is renowned for; from the exposed high moors to secluded wooded valleys, fast flowing rivers and the spectacular cliffs on the north coast. There are plenty of picturesque villages and small towns, together with a variety of attractions suitable for all ages and interests.
  • Lee is an outstanding cook. He made us the best breakfasts we'd ever eaten. He cooks with such care and attention and it really does show. The room is wonderful .. the perfect temperature even during the height of storm Dennis. Chocolate flapjacks in the room and fresh milk were respectively indulgent and thoughtful. The bed was really comfy and the shower and bathroom were great ... Plenty of hot water and lovely linens. Thank you Lee, we'll be back.

  • I don't think we've ever had a better breakfast whilst away... The little touches, homemade gluten free bread for me and homemade jam. Lee is an attentive host with the balance of welcoming, chatty and privacy given in the right balance.. Would definitely recommend...

  • Lee's place is excellent. It is nestled in seclusion and is extremely peaceful. Lee is a great host, who is attentive but not overbearing. You will not be disappointed.

  • This pad is a real gem. It is immaculately clean, well presented and has everything you could need for a relaxing stay. It’s in an ideal location for the lovely town of Dulverton and though it’s right next to the main house felt very private. Lee and his wife couldn’t have done more to make me feel welcome and the delicious breakfast was the icing on the cake. Will definitely return.

Our 4 favourites are: The Swan Pub – Estrella Damm’ Top 50 Gastropub. No.4 Gallery – celebrated gallery supporting locla artists. Toucan Cafe & Bistro – amazing cakes! Bampton Fish Bar – best fish and chips in the area. There are numerous taxi services which can be booked to take you to and from the Ginger Peanut and to Tiverton Parkway the nearby railway station, with speed links by rail to London.
