Set in a quiet converted Mews, the Granary is a cosy, light and spacious apartment with bath and shower, kitchen, dining area, lounge and separate bedroom with king sized bed.
There is a window seat in the lounge offering a view of Knipe Scar. The private garden has a lockable shed for storage of bikes or other outdoor equipment.
There is a village store/Post Office a 2 minute walk from the property and two pubs within half a mile. There are lots of other good pubs and cafes between 3 and 10 miles away. Details of these and menus where possible are stored at the Granary. It's a great location for walking. You can access a footpath which takes you down to the river, a quarter of a mile away, without having to go on roads, and there you'll find the peaceful riverside path. For the more adventurous, there are plenty of hill and mountain walks offering great views of Haweswater and Ullswater. There are over 30 laminated guided walks stored at the property, to give you some ideas to get started. There are also loads of great places for cycling and other outdoor activities.
  • Charlotte was a great host, giving clear directions and easy to communicate with. The place was very clean and an ideal base for a couple to explore the Lake District.

  • Charlotte's place is lovely and cosy. We had a brilliant weekend and would love to stay again!

  • Charlotte was one of the best hosts I’ve dealt with on AirBnB, she went above and beyond for us and was incredibly accommodating. The Granary itself was a beautiful property and the views were amazing, the rooms and bathroom were clean and everything worked perfectly! I would love to be back and would definitely recommend.

  • Charlotte's lovely Penrith getaway is amazing! It's the perfect size for a couple or individual to get that country escape you're after! She is also a polite and very responsive host, so you'll never feel like there is anything missing as she definitely delivers that personal touch. Would highly recommend.

  • Charlotte's place was the perfect stop for us when travelling up to Scotland. The directions she provided were so helpful in finding the place as due to traffic we arrived later than planned. When something went wrong Charlotte and her husband were so helpful in sorting it out. Have already recommended to friends and family to stay at Charlottes place!

  • Andri was amazing. The barn conversion is great and it makes a really nice home away from home. The location is perfect for exploring the Lakes but there is loads of other things happening in the area. Andri’s farm is a very special place and I would recommend it to anyone - especially those who enjoy long walks and fancy nights drinking fizz in a hot tub.

    Lauren2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • Andris eco lodge is an amazing accommodation. Charismatic and comfortable cottage with plenty of space and everything you need for a get away. Andri was an amazing host and couldn’t do enough. Would definitely recommend the hot tub

    Rhys2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • From the moment we arrived the experience was amazing. Andri came and showed us how to use the wood burner and think became a highlight of the stay. There truly is nothing better than a wood burning fire. Andri then took us into the local village to have a bite to eat and picked us up, truly an amazing host. The beds were so comfortable and even though it was a little cold at times it was quick to warm up once the fire was going. Milo our little puppy enjoyed many walks and wandering around the farm, although he did chase the chickens (we do apologise he just wanted to say hello). The fresh eggs were an absolute amazing touch on a morning. Hot tub was good, even with the extremely friendly cat!! Definitely be looking to come again, thank you for making our little honeymoon extra special with our handmade card and fizz!! Thanks Mr & Mrs Capewell xxxx

Honestly couldn't recommend this airbnb enough, my boyfriend amd I had a simply wonderful stay!!

    Anmol2020-01-25T00:00:00Z
  • I can't recommend this place enough. Amazing hospitality from the moment we got there, from both humans and animals. It's a stunning place to stay with more than everything you need. One cat especially was my best mate all 3 nights we were there. Good walks in the nearby area and a nice friendly pub in the village then a nice chill in the hot tub to end off the evening.

    Brian2020-01-12T00:00:00Z
  • A very chilled and homely place!

A converted cow shed, now a light, airy single storey stone building open to the pitched roof that accommodates 2 people in comfort. Drop down double bed, kitchen, wet room, located on the doorstep of the Lake District in a small, charming village.
Great Strickland is a small village sandwiched between the Lake District, the Eden Valley and the Pennines. There are wonderful walks through the fields around the village as well as further afield. We are 5 miles from shops in Penrith or Shap, and the village pub serves home cooked food in a warm atmosphere.
  • Lovely place to stay. Ian and Ruth were really nice and welcoming. The Barn itself is a relaxing place to spend time and nice a comfy. The pub up the road is great and well worth a visit!

    Rich2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • Thank you so much to Ian and Ruth for letting us stay in their outhouse over the weekend. It was exactly what we wanted with a great fire and all the necessary facilities. The Strickland arms was a very good local, with a great choice of food, and only across the road. It was a good thing we booked because every table was reserved when we got there. Would recommend this place to anyone wanting a quiet, cosy weekend for two.

    Elliot2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • Brilliant guest house, Ian and Ruth were so friendly and welcoming and it was lovely and clean. Wish I could have stayed longer but I'll definitely be going back!

    Charlotte2020-01-27T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely, enjoyable night away, lovely and clean. Everything you need, great quiet location. Very warm welcome from ian and ruth, made to feel very welcome, perfect for a relaxing break

    Lesley2020-01-26T00:00:00Z
  • Ian was very quick and clear on the communication side and didn't quibble at our very late check-in. Upon arrival, the place was all ready for us to sleep - nice and warm, the bed made ready which was appreciated after a long drive and as someone with a mobility problem. The accommodation is very suitable for those with mobility issues so long as they can either get up one fairly large step or if the ramp provided by Ian is suitable. We didn't test the ramp. Inside is flat, the space is not really sub divided and the bathroom is a wet room, although the floor is not non slip.

    Nia2020-01-19T00:00:00Z
  • Excellent host with great communication. Thanks Ian!

Our charming cottage is located in a small, tranquil village 10 minutes from Lake Ullswater in the Lake District. The spacious 2 bedrooms will comfortably sleep 4 people who can enjoy the cozy log burner or private walled garden whatever the season. The cottage is a ideal base for adventures into the lakes, attending a wedding at the nearby Askham or Knipe Halls or if you are simply looking for a escape into the country!
The cottage is located in Great Strickland, a small village beautifully positioned between the landscape of The Pennine and Lake District fells. Although the cottage features a fully equipped kitchen, there is a village pub and many other highly recommended eateries on our doorstep including the award winning Askham Hall and George & Dragon pub, Clifton. Penrith, our local market town is 5 miles away and features shops, bars and restaurants. We are in a ideal location for those attending weddings at nearby Askham Hall (5 minute drive) Knipe Hall, Morland Hall and further into the lakes.
The village is a close knit community where you will be made to feel most welcome, our past guests have commented many times on this. We are on the doorstep of the Lake District, being only a ten minute drive from Lake Ullswater at Pooley Bridge. The lakes are a stunning attraction in every season! We have a range of leaflets, walks and ideas for you to visit from a gentle steam boat ride to Go Ape for the more adventurous! We are located 2 miles from both Askham Hall and Morland Hall and nearby to Knipe Hall and the hotels in the lakes should you be visiting us for a wedding or special occasion. We can help you with taxi arrangements.
  • We were looking for a place near to the Lake District where we could put a 2 year old down without disturbing her. This was the perfect place. Joan was so welcoming and had even treated us to a breakfast hamper. The house was pointless and the travel cot was already set up which saved us bringing our own. We will definitely be visiting again.

    Scott2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • Very clean and great location!

    Marriyum2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • Joan's cottage was lovely and cosy with the fire on ready for us when we arrived. Joan was an excellent host. She met us at the property when we arrived and gave us some ideas of what to do while in the area. The breakfast hamper provided was a lovely touch.

    Lee2020-02-08T00:00:00Z
  • Very cozy cottage, the heat and fragrance of the door let us forget the exhaustion of the journey. The boiler in the room was very warm. The landlord was not at home, and his husband met me. He was very friendly and humorous. He introduced us to the use of the room. He said that I think I should have said everything I know. My only regret is that I cannot speak Chinese. His words amused us all. Our journey from Sky Island to Oxford was too long, so we chose to stay here for one night. This was a short stay. I regret not being able to stay for a few more days. The bed was very comfortable and I slept very well. The room is too quiet. Next time you have the opportunity, you must stay a few more days. Highly recommend this place to everyone, great!

    2020-02-02T00:00:00Z
  • Joan's place was very cosy and clean. Great location to access the lakes with ease. The place itself was well equipped and extremely cosy. The fire was lit for our arrival which was great. Spotlessly clean, comfy beds, nice bathroom and kitchen. Cannot fault, well worth booking for a relaxing stay.

    Phil2020-01-26T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful house and kind landlord with perfect facilities

    Xianrong2020-01-25T00:00:00Z
  • Our first stay in Lake District. It was a wonderful experience and hope to meet the host again!

    Tianshu2020-01-05T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely cottage and spotlessly clean. Joan was a great host with some really lovely touches like a welcome basket, a lit fire on arrival and even an offer of toiletry supplies in case you have forgotten anything. We only stayed briefly overnight but would be delighted to return. Thanks again!

Ryebank Cottage is in the beautiful, rural village of Bampton. It's a 5-minute walk from the River Lowther and offers a wealth of walks from the front door. A 10-minute drive away is Haweswater which is a great place to have a very peaceful hill walk. In the other direction, Pooley Bridge is more populated and offers diversions such as hiring a rowing boat or travelling up the Lake on a steamer. There are lots of places to eat, the nearest being just a 5-minute walk from the cottage.
The cottage has two bedrooms: a double with king size bed and en-suite toilet and wash basin and the other with two single beds. There's a spacious lounge with woodburning stove (fuel provided) and a kitchen with a dining area. The kitchen is well equipped with fridge, freezer, microwave etc. The bathroom is on the ground floor and has a shower above the bath. There is an enclosed garden with lawn and a separate seating area. The cottage is in a peaceful mews with a number of other properties, mostly holiday accommodation. It's a 2-minute walk to the village shop, which has limited supplies.
  • Very lovely home and views. Clean and quiet. Tasty dinner at the Punchbowl pub. Nice drive past the castle in the neighborhood. Overall great stay.

    Jason2020-03-10T00:00:00Z
  • We had a fantastic weekend, the cottage is beautiful and the photos don’t really do it justice, especially the main sitting room which is big and open with a beautiful fire place. Charlotte as a host was fantastic, she went above and beyond to make sure our stay was as good as can be. Bampton is a lovely little village with great scenery nearby.

    John2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • I have never rated a review as high as I do for this cottage. I could write a detailed list and instead, just say we have high standards and they were exceeded in every aspect. If you like what you read in the description and see in the photos, you will not be disappointed. Attention to detail has been the focus from the directions to get there, to the quality of the linens. Wifi speeds are excellent as are the amenities in the kitchen. Do yourself a favor and book this one!

    Ron2020-02-28T00:00:00Z
  • Really nice place to stay. Very clear directions sent well in advance of our stay made finding the cottage nice and easy on a dark night! Lots of little touches to make us feel welcome and more than reasonably priced. Thanks very much!

    Luke2020-02-23T00:00:00Z

  • Amazing as always

    Rob2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • Charlotte's place was easy to find and our old Sat Nav took us right to its doors. Private parking was available . The cottage was amazing and lovely and very homely . Just through the lounge there was a private garden with views to die for . The room was cozy and the kitchen had all amenities. We even used the pasta that was left in the kitchen cupboard and to our surprise , there was cheese and crackers and 3 different local goodies in the fridge which we enjoyed with our wine. We used some coal and wood and lit the fire in the fireplace , it was very easy to light it and also easy to clean it afterwards. We were only there for one night and couldn't enjoy the walks , but my husband had a good 5 minute walk and got us milk and eggs in the morning . Outstanding stay !

  • Jacqui and Trev were the best hosts ever. Hikers and MBT guys it is a heaven! We felt like a part of a family and we can't wait to return. My favourite Airbnb experience so far. Trev in a few minutes made for us shoe rack for drying shoes plus amazing Sunday dinner:) Our muddy clothes were washed and nicely folded for us by Jacqui. Lovely couple who's place is a must to visit. Definitely 10+++ experience

  • Excellent hosts, really helpful. A lovely place to stay. Many thanks

    Lorna2019-08-04T00:00:00Z
  • A lovely place to stay, very comfortable and so friendly. And fantastic food! Excellent bed and shower, so many little "extras". Jacqui and Trevor welcomed me like a friend and made me feel at home immediately. I would love to come again and would recommend strongly! Thank you.

    Lorna2019-08-03T00:00:00Z
  • Jacqui's home is absolutely gorgeous. I stayed one night while walking the Coast to Coast trail. It was a scorching hot day and Jacqui was kind enough to welcome me to her home much earlier than the official check in time.

    Vera2019-06-29T00:00:00Z
  • Wow, not sure what to say as I could go on for ages! The perfect accommodation with the perfect people. Clean, comfortable room with an amazing bathroom/hot water. All necessities are including for the bathroom as well as a tea/coffee set up in your room. The smallest of touches are provided (i.e.- robes, medicine, first aid kid, hair dryer etc... I could list 100 more items). These small touches are just an extra benefit. You must get the breakfast and dinner that Jacqui and Trev prepare for you for an extra 15 pounds. Delicious and gracious size (pretty much a Texas sized meal ;). Their home is surrounded within the Lake District and everything you would want to explore is right outside the door. I actually extended my time their a couple days I was so mind blown with their beauty of Bampton Range, the surrounding villages and the fam bam itself. I’m not really a bath person so I mostly used the clean and big shower, but a beautiful, huge bath is provided for soaking and relaxing if that is your jam. You will not find any place for this value. Book now before someone else does! Cheers.

  • Fantastic hospitality, lovely, friendly couple who really put the effort in and make you feel extremely welcome in their home. Lovely house in lovely location. Definitely recommended!

    Laura2019-06-02T00:00:00Z
  • Jacqui and Trev are by far the best Airbnb hosts that I have ever met. Even before we arrived, they were really good at staying in touch and thoughtful about giving directions and asking about food requirements. The moment we arrived at the house they gave us the warmest welcome imaginable. They invited us for a cup of tea, asked us about our plans and gave us recommendations accordingly. They had a road map ready for us and were really accommodating when we were late for dinner due to the weather. Trev even offerred to book us tickets for visiting the Bird of Prey centre which was a lovely touch. We could not have asked for more and cannot wait to be going back. In addition, the house was very clean, in a fantastic location.

    Bogdan2019-05-27T00:00:00Z
  • Thanks Jacqui and Trev for a wonderful couple of night, we really enjoyed your food and your company and Harley was a star (we hope he enjoys his new chew toy). Nicky earnt her ice cream so we stopped in at the Cream O Galloway which was lovely. Thanks again, Will and Nicky

    Angus2020-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • A beautiful cottage, at an outstanding location and two amazing hosts. The cottage is very spacious and has a very warm feeling. The location is marvellous and close to many local attractions. Claire was very welcoming and extremely helpful with tips and suggestions for activities; they were quick to bring us bottled water when the bad weather cause damage on pipes and the water pressure was reduced. We had a great break, enjoying not only the outdoors but also the cottage and hope to get there soon for some more

  • Such an awesome place to stay! Outstanding communication, great location, super friendly and welcoming and the space is so cosy and lovely. Would love to stay again! Claire is a wonderful host and gives super helpful tips as well. Thanks so much!

    Toni2020-01-05T00:00:00Z
  • This is a very well and tastefully furnished property - not the kind of place where you realise that you’re missing salt, a bottle opener etc. Everything has been thought of and is coherent, tasteful. The property is semi-detached (adjoins Claire’s house) but this is not an issue at all; we had complete privacy and the hosting was absolutely unintrusive. Claire and her husband know local walks and can advise if needed. The location is quite unique, in that it is very quickly reached from the M6 and yet entirely rural and within immediate reach of classic Lakes walks.

There are some lovely low level walks around the pretty local villages. Local pubs and cafes provide good food, reasonably priced and good atmosphere. Venturing further, the far eastern Lake District fells are within 20min drive where you can enjoy all the Lake District has to offer without the crowds. The honey pot of Pooley Bridge and Ullswater are a short drive for a fun day out. The Pennines and Yorkshire Dales National Park is only a short drive in the opposite direction. The Eden valley north of Great Strickland is a hidden gem of pretty villages, rivers and stones circles to explore. It is a beautiful area filled with vistas and friendly people.
  • Really lovely yurt in peaceful woodland surroundings. Log burner kept the place nice and cosy when the rain and wind were blowing outside. Warm and friendly reception from Andri, who told us about the pub in Great Strickland village - food and beer both really good. Definitely planning to return in the springtime. Highly recommended!

    Simon2019-09-30T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful, cosy yurt, in a lovely woodland. Quiet spot, but easy to get to the Lake District for great walks. Very clean, had everything we needed for cooking etc., and we loved having the fire. Being able to see the sky and trees through the top section of roof was lovely too, and waking up to the sound of birdsong. Perfect for a relaxed weekend away, would 100% recommend!

    Kate2019-09-15T00:00:00Z
  • This is our second time staying at Great Strickland. Host is amazing, place is really clean and thank you Andri for giving us top tips on where to go around the lakes. Looking forward to re-book again in the near future.

    Colin2019-08-20T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great stay in the yurt of Andri! The area is lovely, super well organised and furnished to make a bbq and enjoy the quietness of nature. It is well located to visit the lake district (Penrith, ullswater, Keswick, etc) and also close to the Hadrian's wall. We highly recommend for everyone who wants to live unique holidays!

    Marie2019-08-16T00:00:00Z
  • Fabulous location, absolutely beautiful yurt! Andri is such a great host, great place all round! We will defiantly be back again! Thanks for such a lovely stay Andri

    Kelly2019-08-09T00:00:00Z
  • Stunning yurt with beautiful light pouring in from above. Plenty of space and privacy, with your own kitchen and dining area as well as the yurt. Beautiful woodland setting and lovely local pubs/restaurants. Andri welcomed us on our arrival and Sarah was able to help settle an issue with noisy guests overnight. We loved the log burner which created cosy nights in and star gazing out of the roof! Hosts very eager to help and gave us lots of tips for local places to visit. We enjoyed kayaking across Coniston Water and walks up Harrop Tarn from Dob Gill and Stickle Tarn.

    Michelle2019-07-23T00:00:00Z
  • A very peaceful space and the perfect little get away from it all.. the hosts were very attentive if anything was requested and just leave you too it if you like.. could not ask for more.. will defiantly recommend this lovely little woodland get away in the Yewberrie Yurt..

  • Penny and Antons is amazing, the log yurts are brilliant and quirky but still very cosy and feel luxury with the massive beds and brilliantly powerful shower. The pub is fantastic, full of games to play on the wetter days and very dog friendly. penny’s menu is superb, huge menu but every Meal that comes out is bursting with flavour and can tell it has been made with love, overall an excellent experience and one we will be doing over in the summertime. AMAZING.

  • Lovely hut with plenty of space for the 5 of us who stayed there. Modern facilities which were very clean. Right next to a pub as well which served delicious food and drinks with a great vegetarian selection. Location was rural and very picturesque but not too far from Penrith town. Overall a great stay with great hospitality!

  • The wooden house is really beautiful. We had a great time. It looks better in reality than on the pictures. The beds are very comfortable, the area is quite big, big bathroom and great shower. House is next to the pub where food is delicious. We loved Pies's ;) This Airbnb offer also free, big and delicious breakfast what makes everything so easy. Location is great, around 20 mins from Keswick. Will definitely come back;) Great experience.

  • Sue and Gary were great hosts. Gary popped by on our 2nd day to see how we was getting on and recommended places to eat/drink. The place was clean and stylish. Would stay again

    Tom2020-01-26T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful views - dawns in the winter if its not too cloudy are brilliant! Ullswater is quite a long walk, and bridge at Pooley Bridge is still closed to traffic, so need to drive to get to West side of Lake - and to manage any extensive walk around the East side! But well worth several days just on the near side, and the Penrith Ramblers book has great instructions. The most local shops have rather limited supplies, so good to stock up with fresh bread etc.

  • We went in autumn as the trees were changing. Whilst the yurt temperature falls to match the outside, it quickly becomes cosy after 3-4 logs on the burner, associated with an enormous sense of achievement if you don't usually have a fire at home! Lovely setting within the trees. Comfy bed. Easy reach of the Lake District. Recommend.

    Thomas2019-10-20T00:00:00Z
  • We arrived in the evening and the woodland was lit up with solar lanterns and was beautiful and mystical. Sitting by the log burner beat sitting in front of a TV in our opinion and once your eyes adjust you can function just fine by candle/fire and torchlight. The bed was clean and comfy. Overall a great retreat away from a busy life.

    Jade2019-09-22T00:00:00Z
  • We spent a lovely weekend in the Ashkey Yurt. It was our first yurt adventure and certainly won't be the last! Loved living in the trees and finding twigs to use as kindling. Really excellent experience!

  • Great 2 night stay in the yurt. Andri very kindly helped/single handedly got the BBQ lit for us on night 1 & the wood burning stove inside the yurt was set up on our return from a wet day on the lakes on our 2nd day. Location was fantastic. Short drive to Penrith & nearby villages. Ideal for romantic getaway or for a group of friends, as the BBQ & campfire area is a great space to hang out in the evening (weather permitting)

My place is close to The Lake District, , family-friendly activities, hill walking, lakes, outdoor life, local pub, in the heart of the lakes and near Penrith.. You’ll love my place because of the location, the outdoors space, the ambiance and just the sheer beauty of the Lakes being on your doorstep and wonderful walks..
  • Keith's place was a real treat. It was clean, beautiful, and quiet. We enjoyed our stay very much. The cottage is also unique with all the wooden beams. We loved the fireplace and how warm the whole cottage was. If you plan to cook, Keith has everything you need (not the food, of course).

    Felicia2019-12-27T00:00:00Z
  • This cottage is a bit hidden and not the easiest to find but the location and setting is excellent. There is a very cosy wood/coal fire and the cottage is very interesting with stone walls and exposed beams. River Lowther is a 2 minute walk away and it's a nice place for a morning stroll. It's well located for all the castles/ruins around Penrith and also the Aria Force waterfall, and there are loads of really nice places to eat within 20 mins drive. We have a very enjoyable stay here

  • Stayed here while doing the Coast to Coast. This place was a godsend after a long, hard, cold, rainy walk from Patterdale. We really appreciated having a space to spread out after our tough day. The washer/dryer was a highlight. The Co-op is right next door and the house itself is directly on the route. Would definitely recommend for anyone doing the 15 miles or so from Patterdale!

  • We stopped here on our coast to coast walk. The flat had everything we needed. It’s a great place to take done time out from weather, eating out, clothes washing etc. It is literally on the walk route. There is a washer-dryer! Also somewhere to dry your boots. Epic. The 15 mile walk from Patterdale is a tough one. This allowed us some space to relax and sort our lives out. I would definitely stay here again

This traditional farmhouse located in the Lowther Valley offers a great place to explore the Lake District! Short walks to Ullswater, Lowther Castle, wild river swimming and more. I live in the house with my border collie so can offer more local tips as well. It’s a large house with multiple rooms so can offer privacy or more shared space depending on what your looking for.
In the house there is a games room/bar, a little warm snug with a fire, larger living room with a fire, a spacious kitchen with aga and a secondary kitchen with electric cooker and washing machine. There are also three bathrooms in the house as well, two upstairs with a bath and shower in each and one downstairs toilet.
Very rustic place located in a private area. Short walk to local village of Askham which has lots of options for pubs. Really fun place for those looking to go on walks, bike rides and others adventures around the lakes!
  • Had a wonderful time in the Lakes, well looked after, some lovely local pubs and really easy access to some gorgeous walks. Accessible by car. James provides some easy to follow directions closer to the time. Would love to return in summer.

    Sarah2019-12-23T00:00:00Z
  • Stayed for one night at James place while competing in Lakeland Trail Runs. Location was great for our needs. Communication with James was great from my initial enquiry to arriving. James housemate, Guy, met us and showed us around. The farmhouse was quirky and full of character and spotlessly clean. Guy gave us tips on where to eat and told us all about the upcoming development of the area. Will definitely return if looking to stay in this area again.

  • Thanks so much for having us. We really loved the 12th century farmhouse. It's a great space with such character. We would love to come back and see how the farmhouse develops over the next few years. Really good location and great value for money. Our dog loved exploring and meeting Ruby and Bo. We slept well and the location was perfect to explore the lakes, and pop back onto the M6. Fab local pubs and beautiful views of the fells all around. See ya'll soon. Sarah, Dave & Mali

  • An unbelievable big farmhouse at such a beautiful location! Easily the best place I've stayed so far! James helped us a lot by giving us great tips for hiring our mountainbikes, and even messages friends to give us tips on where we could ride some great trails! We had a great stay and will definitely come back one day!

  • We very much enjoyed our stay, the farm house is set in an amazing spot with beautiful countryside views, very quirky and full of character. The bedroom is nicely furnished and the bed is sooo comfy. James is very attentive host and knows the area well. The highlight though, has to be Ruby, the border collie puppy :)

    Margareta2019-09-23T00:00:00Z
  • Highly recommended for a quiet retreat in a genuine and ancient farmhouse. Rustic, charming and clean, welcoming and comfortable. James was a wonderful host, he's just starting out with Airbnb and we would very much recommend staying in his farmhouse.

    Dale2019-09-16T00:00:00Z
  • We loved the rustic charm the farmhouse had to offer. Set it the most beautiful location we felt like we had completely escaped the modern world. This said, the farmhouse was really accessible off the M6. Great value for money and a really helpful host. Thank you!

Stay in a converted Barn on a working farm. Enjoy local produce, tranquility, adventure, it's up to you! A stunning and timeless setting for you to explore. Ullswater, Lake District, Eden Valley and outstanding local attractions on your doorstep. Voted in The Guardian as ‘one of the 10 ten best back-to-nature stays in England', 2016.
Stay in a beautifully restored Barn at the heart of our farm. Widewath Barn is Grade II Iisted and has been sympathetically restored to retain original features including open stone walls and wooden beams. Widewath Barn is a small sole occupancy self catering unit sleeping 2 - 4 people. The bedroom has bunk beds and a double bed. The restored stable stall provides a privacy screen in the bedroom. Relax around the large pine farmhouse table in the living/dining room. Retire into a secluded space, the 'snug,' to pour over maps and plan routes for the following day's activity. There is a fully equipped kitchen with electric oven, microwave, kettle, toaster and a shower room with a spacious shower cubicle with powerful shower and a great vintage armitage shanks sink! A wood pellet boiler provides hot water and underfloor heating, keeping the Barn toasty warm.
Ideal location to use boots (trainers) or bike (mountain or road) and take off from the doorstep into high fells or drop down into the quiet network of roads, footpaths and bridleways in the Eden Valley. Bag a Wainwright!! Visit outstanding local attractions like Lowther Castle and Gardens or while away a warm afternoon in the nearby villages of Askham and Bampton. Indulge in afternoon tea and cakes, woodfired pizzas or both! Take a dip in Askham's outdoor heated swimming pool! Walk over to Pooley Bridge at Lake Ullswater and take the steamer across to Glenridding. For families, take a 'Tale trail'. Tale Trails are local 1-2 hour family walks based around a fun story and a hand drawn map for kids. Look out for the Marsh Kelpie of Askham Fell!
  • Lovely cosy place to stay. Feels remarkably spacious, well equipped kitchen and beautiful decor. Very comfy beds!! Alice and Graham are wonderful hosts- very friendly and helpful, lent us an OS map and gave us helpful tips. Very cute dogs. Perfect location for ullswater - can walk over the fells straight from the back door! Will be back soon we hope!!

  • This is a perfect family bolt hole. The location is fantastic but it is far enough off the beaten track to get away from it all. Alice and her family are great hosts, we’ll definitely be back.

    Nina2020-01-05T00:00:00Z
  • Fantastic location. Easy for the northern fells and ullswater. But the barn itself, Askham fells and village are also great. The barn is a fabulous place to stay and the hospitality was wonderful.

  • Fantastic stay in a lovely cosy cottage. Ideal for exploring the lakes. Alice and her family were lovely. We will definitely be back!

  • What a wonderful find! We had a lovely 3 nights at Widewath Farm. The cottage was bigger than expected, clean and warm, and had everything we needed for a short stay. Alice and her husband were welcoming and gave us some useful local tips. We would thoroughly recommend it for a couple, small group or family wanting somewhere peaceful in the Lakes.

    Rebecca2019-10-06T00:00:00Z
  • The space is good - really warm, great powerful shower, good kitchen, comfy bed. Nice and cosy after a day walking. On the edge of the Lake District so close to Ullswater but a bit further to some of the other lakes. We had to delay check in by a day as I was unwell - Alice was really helpful and let us check in a day later, with no issues. Thanks!

    Karina2019-10-02T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing friendly hospitality and offered tips for local attractions and walks all on their door step! Beautifully styled 17th century barn.

  • We had a fantastic week with plenty of room for a family of four. Enjoyed staying in the rural setting but not too far to travel throughout the Lake District. The accommodation was perfectly clean and had everything we needed. Hosts were amazing too.

A stunningly romantic retreat for couples who enjoy staying in boutique accommodation. Set within the heart of the Lake District National Park, we're in a peaceful location but with easy access to hills, lakes and views.
Sleep in the most comfortable super-king size bed ever, wake to the sounds of the sheep in the fields, enjoy a soak in the large freestanding bath and warm your feet in front of the woodburner. Everything you need for a fresh, full Cumbrian breakfast will be waiting for you upon arrival so you can enjoy what you want, when you want.
The sheep definitely outnumber the humans here. Set within the heart of the Lake District National Park, the property is nestled in a peaceful location with easy access to hills, lakes, and views.
  • If you are planning on visiting the Lake District then you shouldn't look any further than Rosie's Barn! Absolutely stunning property and having seen the pictures we had high expectations but we found that these didn't do the place justice and was even better than what we were hoping for! Everything has been thought of including a little box with dog essentials for those dog owners as well as sweet treats and locally sourced breakfast ingredients! Rosie Barn also sits in a beautiful location and looking out over the hills in the morning is a view not to be forgotten too quickly! Can't recommend this place enough! Thanks again Suzanne!

    Joshua2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • We had a very warm welcome. Lovely barn with lots of amazing features! Lovely touches to make it a gorgeous stay. We will defiantly be booking again!

    Samantha2020-02-02T00:00:00Z
  • A must stay!! Suzanne was an incredible hostess! She immediately replied to my messages and I was able to book a last minute mini break quickly with no stress attached. From the beautiful style and the finishing touches, Suzanne has thought of everything! It was exactly what we wanted for a night away! When we arrived, Suzanne greeted us and was so welcoming, she gave us a full tour along with recommendations of walks and where to eat! She assured us if we had any issues whatsoever that’s shes only next door and to not hesitate to get in touch. Thank you Suzanne for a blissful getaway! We look forward to visiting again!

    Maryel2020-01-05T00:00:00Z
  • Our stay at Rosie’s Barn was amazing. Suzanne was lovely and very helpful with local recommendations for walks and places to eat. The barn and surroundings are even more beautiful than the pictures, and everything has been thought of, with extra little touches that made it such a special getaway. We can’t recommend it highly enough!

    Laura2019-12-29T00:00:00Z
  • Absolutely beautiful stay! The most thoughtful touches from the doggy treats! The marshmallows and biscuits, breakfast, the one in a million next to the bed! Absolutely amazing and so thoughtful! We will be back xxxx

  • Absolutely wonderful place!! Me and my partner went for a bit of peace and quiet and to get away from the everyday stresses and this place absolutely did that for us! Beautiful place, great peaceful location, lovely extra touches for while you were there and easy check in and out. Would 100% recommend and can’t wait to come back, but definitely for longer next time! 😊

Sleeps 4: 2 bedrooms 1 bathroom. Traditional 500 year old quirky cottage with a garden views across village green,2 pubs, corner shop and open swimming pool in village. M6 15 mins. Grade 11 listed chocolate box cottage, in the picturesque village of Askham, in the Lake District. Easy access to all the Park's mountains, and lakes, with a variety of outdoor activities and village pubs.
We offer a warm welcome for families or friends to our Grade 11 listed cottage, in the picturesque village of Askham, in the quiet NE corner of the Lake District National Park. We are half way between Ullswater (5miles) and Haweswater (6miles), within easy access of all the Park's mountains, lakes and fells, with a wide variety of outdoor activities and good village pubs close by. Lowther Castle with its gardens, cafe and childrens play castle is a 15 minute walk away. It really is a home away from home, with all you need to create your peaceful and memorable holiday in the Lake District National Park! We have equipped and decorated the cottage for you to relax and unwind in with traditional wooden beams, quirky rooms and fabulous view across the village. We have combined antique and contemporary furniture and paintings in a traditional Lakeland country style. You'll love the stylish master bedroom with kingsize bed, the pretty double room with basin and wardrobe space. A quaint third bedroom has a single adult bed is available on request. Walkers and cyclists can explore the many footpaths and quiet country lanes from our door, without having to use the car. Our scenery is crisscrossed with a patchwork of ancient drystone walled 'driftways' leading down to the meandering River Lowther, or up onto Askham Fell above the village. In 30 mins walk from the house, you'll overlook spectacular views of Ullswater (only 3miles across the fell) and it's surrounding mountains, all the way to the majestic Blencathra in the north. You can also explore a group of prehistoric cairns and standing stones left by Helton's stone age settlers. For families, 2 minutes walk from the house is Askham Open air swimming pool which is great for relaxing in the summer. If you have children to entertain, where better than a pretty mile walk from the cottage across the deer park of Lowther Castle, to the amazing new Lost Castle adventure playground and cafe in the woods behind it. On your way back you'll need to allow time for a drink in either of our 2 great traditional pubs in the village.
Askham has long been regarded as one of the region's loveliest villages. The main street's ample verges and fine trees are flanked by a charming array of picturesque cottages set at differing angles and elevations. It forms an attractive avenue, extending from the River Lowther uphill to open moorland. Nearby is the great Estate of Lowther Park, seat of the Earls of Lonsdale whose ancestral home is currently undergoing major regeneration. The village has a church, inns, shop/post office and is very accessible, being only a few minutes drive from Penrith, the M6 (Jns. 39 & 40) and Ullswater.
  • Jacqui’s place was absolutely perfect. It was warm, cozy, with just the right amount of modern updates. It’s a great location while exploring all the activities around the Askham/Penrith area. I would highly recommend a stay here!

A listed building recently converted with the care of Cumbrian craftsmen - lime plastered wiggly walls, oak floors, handcrafted oak doors and stairs, hand forged latches and handles. Situated in the Lake District with panoramic views from the door over the orchard, across fields of sheep and beyond to the North Pennines and Howgills.
  • We had a fantastic stay at Alice’s lovely little hideaway. We were lucky enough to be one of the first few to stay, everything is brand new and sparkling! It’s self- contained and was a great starting point for many fantastic walks right from her doorstop. This is a really cosy place for a couple, warm and so nice to get back to after a long day walking in the cold! Alice is wonderfully hospitable and kind, ready to help and give tips on where to go. We couldn’t recommend it enough! We recommend walking over the fell to pooley bridge for a bite to eat in one of the pubs. There are fantastic views of the area from the top! We already want to come back ! Eleanor and Edgar

  • This place is a gem. We spent 4 days in frances place and immediately felt right at home. The house has everything you could ever need and more. The detailed recommendation folder sent us on some of the most beautiful hikes we've ever been to. The communication was flawless and immediate, and the grand piano at the living room was an extra activity for us :) will be back again soon!

  • A fantastic property, stylish and with everything we could have needed. Two bathrooms, which is great for teenage kids. Dog friendly but also immaculately clean. A huge living room with a grand piano, which proved useful for giving us all our own space when the weather turned sour! A huge garden, dishwasher, washing machine and dryer, even a utility room with its own Belfast sink for cleaning up after a muddy hike. Perfect!

    Lee2019-08-07T00:00:00Z
  • We were a family of 7 and had loved the apartment in the first look. The house was even more prettier than it appears in the pictures with a lot of amenities. Frances and Sarah are amazing hosts and helped us with local food joints. Everything about the stay was fantastic. There is just no mobile network around the property, however the house has wifi which was of great help.

    Vidhi2019-07-20T00:00:00Z
  • Scar View is a beautiful location. The house is very well kept and has all the necessary amenities. There was a bit of a glitch with the electricity when we reached but it was taken care of as soon as I told the hosts about it. The communication with Sarah was very helpful. I would definitely recommend this airbnb as it is a perfect holiday home.

  • We had a wonderful stay at Scar View, the property is set in a scenic location with amazing views out of the front door. There’s a huge back garden with patio which we were lucky enough to be able to use. Overall it is well kept & clean. Would definitely stay again. Thanks to Sarah for being super helpful and responsive prior to and during our stay.

  • We had a lovely break at Scar View with our dachshunds. The cottage was clean and tidy with everything we needed for our stay. The garden was secure for the dogs and lovely to sit in when the rain stopped for a few hours. Sarah was very quick in coming back to me when we had queries and even recommended some good pubs. Although we weren't too keen on the Punchbowl in Askham.

  • Scar view was amazing and exceeded all my expectations. The house had everything you would want for a Lake District adventure and was perfect for our family. We had a fire going in the fireplace since it was cold and my children loved playing in the gorgeous yard and garden area. Really a peaceful and tranquil place to unwind

The house is a nineteenth century Cumbrian house set in a small terrace in Shap on the edge of the beautiful Lake District. A great base for walking the fells and exploring the area, the house is spacious, warm and comfortable with a new bathroom and kitchen. The house has stunning views across to the Eastern fells. The Yorkshire Dales are also a short drive away. It's a very short walk to three pubs and there are also shops, a post office and a small supermarket close to the property.
You will have the run of the whole house which has a large comfortable sitting room, a dining room which seats six guests, a modern well-equipped kitchen, one double bedroom, one twin bedroom and a bedroom with a double bunk bed. The bathroom is large and modern with both shower and bath.
Shap is a lovely village set in the Eden Valley in Cumbria. It's a short drive to both the Lakes and Dales. There are great walks from the house and a short drive will take you to the beauty spots of Ullswater, Haweswater and Shap Abbey. The village has shops, pubs and a great chippy. There is also England's highest outdoor swimming pool!
  • Lovely place in a brilliant location. Would definitely recommend

  • Elaine's place was a lovely - perfect for our group of 5. It is perfectly located - easy drives to Hadrian's wall, North Umberland Dark Sky Conservatory, and other beautiful sites in and around Dales and Lake District. The house is clean, spacious and equipped with everything that is necessary, including maps, compass etc. Elaine was prompt in replying to our messages and had left clear notes about everything in the house Lovely stay! We will be back.

  • This guest house has way more to offer than a place to stay. Breakfast was a meal fit for hikers and tourists alike. The guidance and local knowledge was very helpful and allowed us to make the most of our visit to the area. I would very much recommend this launching place for Cumbria and the Lake District. Thank you

A light and airy refurbished 1970's caravan with beautiful camping kitchen outside with all you need to make a brew and a easy meal, set in a young woodland just outside of the village of Great Strickland on the edge of the Lake Districts eastern fells.
You can lay in bed and hear the rustle of the trees leaves and the bird song. A true getting back to nature location with plenty to do in the immediate area and the lakes just a short drive away. The caravan is lovingly restored to create a modern unique sleeping area. We provide freshly ironed bedding and towels. There are candles and solar lights. Each washing up area has everything you need , scourers, liquid ( we try to be as plastic free as possible, re filling containers rather than buying new each time).plus dishclothes and tea towels.
A 15 minute walk down a country lane will take you into Great Strickland village where there is a pub that serves food. In the neighbouring village of Morland is a lovely cafe that serves really tasty food during the day and on Friday nights, wonderful pizzas. There is a small shop in Morland, providing mostly local produce. In the other direction to melkinthorpe, there is a lovely garden centre and cafe for a lovely lunch. Lowther castle and gardens is an interesting afternoon out and there are some lovely walks in and around the village of Askham, finished off with a drink in one of the pubs. Askham also has a village shop open 7-7. Ullswater is only a short drive away and where the walks are fantastic and you can hire boats to play on the lake. Shap has a local coop open 7am-10pm and an award winning fish and chip shop.
  • We loved our stay, the setting was amazing! The outdoor kitchen and fireplace was great, the caravan was spacious and cosy. The bed was comfortable with lots of blankets to keep us warm! Only negative was that it was cold inside, there was a gas heater but this requires ventilation. Highly recommend!

  • Perfect little spot in the woods. The caravan had everything we needed with lots of great little touches. Andri was very welcoming and made sure we had everything we needed. Will definitely be back.

  • What an amazing place! The caravan is very clean and surprisingly warm. The outdoor kitchen has everything you need to make yourself a meal and candles are provided for when it gets dark. We stayed up all night next to the fire as we couldn’t get enough of the beautiful outdoor area. The owner is also lovely, and even gave emptied her car to give a lift to the pub! We will definitely be back in the future!

  • The hosts were fantastic, so welcoming and full of energy. We felt instantly at ease and settled into an amazing setting. The little caravan is set back into a wooded area with a lovely kitchen area and your own fire pit. Everything you need is there but still very much the camping feel. Caravan was lovely and cosy and I really could not fault this listing whatsoever. you can walk to the local village for a pint and food but you will need a car to go further (10-30mins gets you to lakes, bigger walks, towns etc.) and this was perfect for us. Far enough removed but close enough to visit Highly recommend this listing! You would not regret it
