Places to stay in Calitzdorp
The Ticket Office, with its own kitchen, forms part of the historic Calitzdorp Railway Station. With original buildings lovingly repurposed, Calitzdorp Station provides a beautiful and unique setting to explore the surrounding vineyards, wine cellars, galleries and local restaurants. Activities in the area include scenic drives, 4x4ing, off-road motorcycling and mountain biking. Children and pets welcome. Shared ablutions with hot showers and modern toilets are approximately twenty paces away.
The ticket office has a double bed, and two singles, with white linen and towels, and its own large self catering kitchen. It has two fireplaces for the cold winter nights, and electric blankets can be supplied at a nominal cost. Shared ablutions with hot showers and modern toilets are approximately twenty paces away. Guests are often seen riding the pump trolleys on the tracks, braaing in a mobile braai on the platform, or enjoying the sound of the owls in the evening.
Calitzdorp has three large well known cellars, BoPlaas, De Krans, and Calitzdorp Cellars, and a number of smaller wine and port wine producers, namely DuSwaRoo, TTT Cellars, Axehill, Peter Bailey, and Withoek. A drive along Groenfontein is a must, with beautiful scenery to view, and galleries to visit. In the village are a number of excellent restaurants and bistros. Fifty kilometers away is the town of Oudtshoorn with its ostrich farms and world renowned Cango Caves.

  • Cheryl was so welcoming! We definitely come back!

  • A really awesome stay - I would go back and recommend to friends. The old train station has a great feel, there are many thoughtful touches around the place, and Cheryl totally rocks.

  • We've telling all our friends and family of this unique place to stay over. We really enjoyed it. Thank you.

  • Quaint clean and well managed

    Andre2019-12-28T00:00:00Z
  • Quirky and fun stay at the ticket office. Very cool if you like something different. Suggest carry a torch as the ablutions is out of the chalet.

  • Quirky stay at the station. Informal, clean, easy-going venue. Close to the Port distilleries, old town and restaurants. Cheryl took us in at very short notice, and got us settled and welcome very quickly, also pointing us to a good meal and vibe at Handelshuis restaurant.

    Denis2019-12-22T00:00:00Z
  • Not a typical stay! Sleeping on an old train station!!! This setting was a welcomed change for us. The children had some fun to explore everything. A place to visit and also to stay there. You can walk into town and leave the car. Especially good for the winery’s that you can visit nearby! Unfortunately it was a very hot day (44 degrees) and the room heat up. Ventilation is installed on the ceiling but stayed warm at night - to open the doors and windows is not a good idea because of moskitos. There at also tents on the ground - for that high temperatures I would recommend one of these, because you get a fresh breeze in the night. Thank you Cheryl for this AirBnB!

  • I was completely blown away by the space. Huge room, high ceilings, and a bathroom you’d find in a decor magazine. The bed is amazingly comfortable, and the host was so friendly, helpful and accommodating.

    Troy2019-11-19T00:00:00Z
  • Trudy’s great hospitality made us feel home in her very comfortable and spacious guest room. A lot of lovely details and the luxurious bathroom let this guest room stand out among others. Of note, Trudy provided an extra baby bed for our nine month old son.

    Benjamin2019-11-04T00:00:00Z
  • Exceptional stay. Warm and welcoming host. The room and bathroom is separate from the house and private. Huge room and bathroom. Lovely touches like repellent, hand wipes, shower gel and shampoo conditioner, robes, large shower with rain shower head, vanity items, home baked goodies, bottled water, tea coffee station, board games, iron and ironing board, a bedtime chocolate. Great quality white linen and plush blankets and rugs throughout. Secure parking. Beautiful decor. An absolute must when staying in Calitzdorp. Thank you Trudy and see you again soon.

  • This was an amazing stay in Calitzdorp. Beautiful location ; superb hosting by Mo - her knowledge of the local area outstanding ; incredible bakery next door ( just wish we were there from Wed to Saturday when it was open) but all in all, a wonderful stay !!

    Wewege2020-03-10T00:00:00Z
  • What an incredible place to be. We simply loved everything, our studio, the swimmingpool, the kombucha drinks, the best bread in the world, the hikes, the dogs and most of all the super hosts!

    annemiek2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • It was a pleasure to stay at Lenies Hof. The engagement and hospitality of Mo and Steve was great. Our hint for your stay: You have to book the breakfast! Mo has an own bakery, so you will get fresh, homemade bread and only regional products like fruits, cheese and eggs. For us it was the best breakfast offer in South Africa. If we had more time, we definitely would have stayed longer to enjoy the beautiful pool and the atmosphere at the farm.

    Hanna2020-02-29T00:00:00Z
  • Wonderful place in the middle of the farm. We ‘ve been very well welcomed by Mo and her husband. A bakery is available on site as Mo is also baker. Bread is delicious and you can have breakfast on the terrasse of the bakery.

    Anne2020-01-25T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful little farm surrounded by great nature reserves. Mo & Steven are lovely and engaged hosts. We whole-heartedly recommend staying with them and tasting their homemade breads, wine made from their vineyard, and harvested fruits and vegetables! The accommodation was a fully equipped studio with a very comfortable bed. You’ll experience the full essence of a small working farm stay with all the comforts of home.

    Maximilian2020-01-10T00:00:00Z
  • Original style and a sense of responsibility to community and the world make Mo’s place good to visit. The breakfast with home baked fresh bread is definitely worth it.

    Anne2020-01-07T00:00:00Z
  • We loved staying at Mo and Steve's spot, as well as their story. It was an absolute pleasure to stay in such a beautiful accommodation. We loved the little touches and tasteful decor. A dip in the sparkling pool was just what we needed, a glass of wine in hand. Their dogs are just the sweetest and Mo's delicious homemade bread is not to be missed. Mo and Steve went out of their way to make us feel comfortable, thank you for such a spectacular stay, we will be back again soon! <3

The Barn Swallows Nest is a private room in an old Karoo barn in Calitzdorp. It is just 3km from town and the R62 on the Groenfontein rd also known as the Art Route. The room which has its own private entrance has an en suite bathroom, Although not self catering it has various teas, coffee, a small fridge and fresh filtered water. There is a front stoep which gets the morning sun and a back stoep which has a beautiful view and sunset where you can also do fantastic star gazing.
We work from home, hand dying and printing textiles and hand making clothing. We do however appreciate your privacy and wish for you to feel as if at home and comfortably free in your space. There is a lot of bird life on this very unique property because it is right on the edge of the farmland, a border to the wilderness.. Ideal for the young adventurer or the young at heart! see insta @thebarnswallowsnest

  • This is a great place to stay if you are anywhere in the area. Ideally located just outside of town, its quiet and peaceful and yet its quick and easy to drive back to town for a restaurant meal. The room itself is unusual. It is arty, quaint and stylish but also very simple and basic. Rustic, but very clean and comfortable. Certainly a place that we would want to go back to.

    Robert2020-02-11T00:00:00Z
  • Kelly and Dennis's little barn is a truly amazing place. Renovated, decorated and maintained by the most genuine, honest and lovely people in all South Africa (and some animals). We enjoyed every second of it and are still admiring all the little colorful details we found there. 10 thumbs up!

  • Jako’s house is lovely, loads of thoughtful touches and so nicely decorated - it is really spacious and the beds were very comfy. Large outside space with lots of seating area and cute pool area. Jako was great to communicate with and we would definitely stay here again when we are next in Calitzdorp! A real gem.

  • Wonderful property and gardens beautifully presented with plunge pool, absolutely worth a visit. Highly recommended. John & Mary Mansell from Bath UK

    John2020-02-13T00:00:00Z
  • Jako is the most thoughtful host. All our needs where met before we even knew we had them, airconditioners to escape the warm summer days, mosquito spray for sitting outside, pool towels and sunblock, toilet amenities, a cool bottle of wine... We felt very spoilt. I highly recommend staying here.

    Jenna2020-02-04T00:00:00Z
  • Jako’s place is superb. The garden is full of beautiful succulents, and the inside of the house was spotless and had all the the usual amenities and more. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone.

    Ashley2020-01-09T00:00:00Z
  • A beautiful house and surrounding garden, we cannot recommend this enough. Every detail has been considered to make your stay comfortable and enjoyable, from Jako's impeccable taste in decor (I was stealing tips on local artists!) to his homemade rusks and jams. We felt welcomed into his home immediately. If you are lucky enough to meet Jako, you will leave inspired by his energy and positivity.

Have an authentic home experience and rent a private room in my lovely art deco styled home - built circa 1930 - with its high ceilings and Oregon pine floors. The house is situated at the top end of a very large, charming, English-style garden with established beds, palm trees, a small citrus and deciduous fruit orchard as well as olive trees and beehives; and this overlooks the town and surrounds. (Due to the lingering drought, garden is looking very sad, currently.)
This is my own private home where I live. It is NOT a five star hotel. The dedicated AirBnB space is comfortable, with a down-to-earth, unpretentious and home-from-home ambiance. The remainder of the house is my home where I live and where you are most welcome to visit. Included is a separate entrance, separate toilet and separate bathroom, with a bath and hand shower. These are for your exclusive use. (A full shower is available as a shared facility, also used by me, if you prefer to use this.) My establishment is LGBTIQ-friendly. Please Note! I have a small very friendly dog and three cats in the house. This space is NOT suitable for people with animal allergies or who do not like animals; or who have their own pets - as pets are not allowed in the room; or who have young children (I am unable to put in an extra mattress); or for people who have walking-mobility impairment - access might be too difficult to negotiate.
My house is situated in a hilly elevated area of the town, with lovely, uninterrupted views from the entrancing garden, which you are welcome to use. The house is within easy walking distance of the three main wineries in the village, Boplaas, De Krans and the Calitzdorp Cellars and all galleries, the museum and other places of interest in the village.
  • We highly recommend the property. Peter has a very nice house and you live in a cozy room with a private bathroom. Peter receives you very warmly and you immediately feel like you are at home. Peter also gave us great tips and helped us with everything. His little dog and cat are very trusting and cuddly. One of the most special accommodations on our trip.

    Ricarda2019-12-20T00:00:00Z
  • I was very pleasantly surprised when I stayed at Gaia's Farm BnB in Calitzdorp. Peter, the host, received me heartily. The facilities are excellent and neat and the tariff is very reasonable for what is on offer. I could not ask for better and will definitely stay over again on my next visit to the Klein Karoo. Peter is an excellent host who really goes the extra mile for his guests.

    Eben2019-12-09T00:00:00Z
  • The space is exactly as the photos show, bright and airy. Cleanliness and order is of a high standard and Peter's hospitality is exceptional. Peter makes a room spray of homegrown Lavender...what a lovely touch!

    Judie2019-11-30T00:00:00Z
  • Great place to stay, Peter makes you feel at home. Strongly recommended if you’re on the way to oudshoorn or just looking for a great place to spend the night.

    Jens2019-08-29T00:00:00Z
  • Peter was a great host and we enjoyed our stay at his place. The room is exactly as depicted in the photos and is great value for money when compared to other accommodation in the area. Peter knows the town and had good recommendations for where to eat out and things to do. He respects your privacy, but if available for interesting conversations and good laughs over a cup of coffee or a glass of wine.

    Moira2019-06-17T00:00:00Z
  • Quirky but comfortable space. Peter is a lovely outgoing host who makes every effort to make your stay a pleasant one. He is a very interesting character.

Die Stoep is a large rambling family home - buildt around 1860. The veranda ( stoep ) wraps around half of the house and is the perfect place to sit and watch Karoo life slowly pass you by. There is an open fireplace in the lounge and another in the kitchen. The courtyard is a great entertainment area with undercover braai , seating and a fire pit. The splash pool is the place to be on a hot summers day.
Percale bed linen and towels ( as well as swimming towels ) are supplied. The kitchen is fully equipped with stove, micro, steamer, coffee machine, kettle, toaster , fridge ,dish washer and washing machine. There is an open fireplace. The garden is large and enclosed with a star gazing area next to the splash pool. Pets are welcome by prior arrangement.
Calitzdorp is part of Route 62 and on the longest wine route in the world. There are wine cellars in town with great restaurants. The Karoo vegetation here is very special and 100's of species of succulents are found here. Star gazing in this part of the Klein Karoo is magic.
  • Our stay was unfortunately too short. We would have liked to be able to enjoy this magnificent house and its amenities more. We should have stayed there 2-3 nights ...

    Richard2020-02-14T00:00:00Z
  • So enjoyed our stay....

    Darryl2020-02-13T00:00:00Z
  • Although we only passed through this quirky converted town house for one night, we were truly taken by its interesting spaces and fantastic touches Sally has done to the place, which leaves you with plenty of choice as to where and when you wish to enjoy the home. Following 5 long hours on the road, on a hot summer day, the well-maintained pool is the perfect refuge, especially for our 2 kiddies. Where I rate the host the highest is on hospitality, response rate and care. Thanks for looking after us so tentatively.

    Justin2020-01-30T00:00:00Z
  • Great place to stay in Calitzdorp. When very hot small pool is welcome. Nice courtyard for having a brain plus safe parking.

    Joyce2020-01-20T00:00:00Z
  • We absolutely loved this home. It was great value for money and we enjoyed the splash pool and courtyard daily. The town itself is quiet but packed with friendly people and authentic experiences.

  • Die Stoep is a great home away from home. Quiet, clean and with everything you need to make your say comfortable. the decor is beautiful yet homey and inviting and the house is close to everything. Truely restorative getaway from the hustle and bustle.

    Monica2019-12-27T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing, the space merges old school charm of Carlitzsdorp with all the new age amenities.

  • Sally's house is a real home. You have all the equipment (and more!) that you need. The house is cosy, greatly decorated, comfortable, we really enjoyed it. It is also very well isolated from extreme temperatures, and you won't get hot or cold in this house. Perfect!

  • Although I knew I would be staying at an old railway station, I was pleasantly surprised by the place when I got there. Cheryl has renovated it beautifully and it was an amazing experience to stay there. It had rained quite heavily the night I was there. Cheryl was exceptionally hospitable and went to great lengths to ensure that the guests in the adjacent campsite and I were comfortable. Thanks for a very memorable stay!

Die Bokwagtershuis, “Goat keeper’s house”, was originally built during the 19th century as accommodation for Matjiesvlei’s goat keeper. His task was to tend to all the goats of the different farmers in the valley. The house has been authentically restored to maintain its atmosphere, with addition of modern amenities. There is free Wifi Access in the cottage and security screens in front of all doors and windows. In the main bedroom there is a double bed, the second and third bedroom has 2 single beds. The bathroom has a bath and a shower, the en suite bathroom has a shower. All linen included. There is a spacious living area, overlooking the veld and mountains is the ideal entertainment area, consisting of the lounge area, dining area and kitchen area, with an indoor braai. Outside on the grass is a circular braai. Braai grids, fire tongs and swartpotjie available. The lounge area has a wood burning closed system fire place for heating in winter and an air conditioner for the hot summer days. The kitchen is equipped with all the required utensils, including a dishwasher and a washing machine. On hot summer days you can cool off in the nearby farm dam, or go for a swim in the river at the private picnic site.
Matjiesvlei valley forms part of the Cape Floral kingdom and is surrounded by majestic mountains. The Gamka river runs through the valley and fed by a number of small rivers in the valley. • A special spot in a unique and beautiful location.

  • Matjiesvlei is a special place in the Karoo and we loved our stay. The quiet, the bird life, the early morning and later afternoon walks. And Bokwagtershuis really brings nature into the living space (at times quite literally as the Weavers and Familar Chats takes a chance now and then to scoop up a crumb). The owners were quite helpful and responsive to queries via Whatsapp. A special bird sighting in the area for me was the White-fronted bee-eaters, they have a nesting sight right next to the road in the earth wall going down to the river, but as I understand usually occur more north in the country.

The history of the cottage on Middelplaas (Middle Farm) is unknown. It is the only house on Middelplaas and was probably many decades ago used as a residence for the people looking after the farm for the owners who lived elsewhere in the valley. The cottage was clean and well equipped and we found plenty of useful and interesting information in the provided guides. The back stoep was the perfect place to relax with great views. Swimming in the river, hiking and the healthy little herb garden were the highlights!

Authentic South African Karoo experience from the stoep! Our second rustic strawbale cottage has a large stoep, outdoor shower and hidden plunge pool to take in the majestic views over the orchards in the valley below framed by the Swartberg mountains in the background, promising a relaxing and memorable Klein Karoo experience. Situated in the Calitzdorp valley, 1.5 km outside of the town, you will come across the two cottages which are built with eco-friendly methods as all of the materials were readily available and of the earth. Straw bales, river stones, clay sand and river reeds were used to construct the cottages that not only respond to the vast temperatures of the Klein Karoo but are also beautifully designed to look like they have simply grown from the earth. Positioned on the edges of the farms vineyard the breath taking views of the surrounding Swartberg are cleverly framed, not only through the perfectly positioned 3m high timber shuttered doors but also over the orchards below which is your private quiet and peaceful view during your stay. Cottage 2: The cottage has 1 x king size bed and 1 x single / day bed. This cottages is equipped with gas burner, gas fridge, outside braai area, tea and coffee making facilities. The bathroom has a bath only (with a viewing window of the valley) and an outdoor shower for those warm summer nights and the very brave in the winter!! The new addition of the private plunge pool tucked in under the canopy of a tree provides cooling off for those crazy hot summers days in the Karoo under full shade.
The cottages are situated outside the town on the Groenfontein road which means it is quiet yet close enough for a brisk walk into town 1.5km or more leisurely stroll through the nearby vineyards and orchards. Cyclists can take a ride to the nearby dam (4km) and enjoy the breathtaking views. GUIDED MOUNTAIN TREKS Resident local and nature conservationist Kevin will guide you on a private mountain hike to explore the magnificent surrounding Swartberg, Groenfontein or Meiringspoort ranges. All walks are by arranged by prior booking. Cost: Price on request Includes: Informative private guide, refreshment and picnic lunch prepared and served. Hike's intensity and duration can be altered to accommodate guests fitness levels and time frames accordingly.
  • Lovely cosy straw bale house with a beautiful view. The bed was so comfortable we didn't want to leave. Perfect for eco conscious tourists. Quirky decorative touches and interesting design details. A must stay next time you're ever in Calitzdorp.

  • We really enjoyed our night in Zelma’s place. The large main bed looks out over the most beautiful sunset valley view! Spacious and airy, it was special to wake up in this piece of the Karoo! Great attention to detail and design. Thank you Zelma.

  • A charming place with a beautiful view, just a few minutes walk from the charming town of Calitzdorp. there are a number of good restaurants, an excellent bakery, wine tastings, and wonderful art galleries all around the time, with incredible views to top it off. definitely worth a visit. the private outdoor shower at Zelma's place was my favorite, and we absolutely loved the view out of the stunning French doors. highly recommend!

  • A very charming cottage with super friendly and helpful hosts. The king sized bed with beautiful four poster type mozzie net makes you feel like a princess. Lovely braai area with a sunset view. Outside shower is great for warm evenings. Location is close enough to the town but still feels remote. Great cycle route up towards the Swartberg pass.

    Angela2019-09-23T00:00:00Z
  • If you're looking for a peaceful, quiet, stylish rustic, easy living, super comfortable cottage where you can laze indoors or outdoors and just stare at the view and take in sunsets then pick this cottage!! The most lovely long weekend spent doing just that. Close enough to town to do the odd outing, grab a bite to eat or taste some wine but just as lovely to relax at the cottage and read.

    Abby2019-08-11T00:00:00Z

  • We loved the Place! Our favourit on R62 so far.

    Hannes2020-02-06T00:00:00Z
  • Strooi Kooi is a wonderful hidden gem on the R62. On arrival we were pleasantly surprised to find out we would be staying in the bigger cottage for the weekend. The space is simple and beautiful with everything you need to go off grid for a weekend. Really enjoyed the rusks and coffee on the stoep each morning and relaxing in the 'pool' under the trees in the afternoon. The outdoor shower is stunning. Zelma is a great host offering lots of tips and suggestions on what to do in the area.

The building itself is like a work of art, with so many delightful little touches. The setting is tranquil and beautiful - we've come away feeling so energised. The views from the terrace is amazing, the cottage is really nice equipped (spent hours in the hammock!) and clean. • An amazing house, but you can see that from the pictures, what you can't see, is the fantastic welcome and ongoing support from Mo and Steve. Do try her bread (especially the fiery goat) and if there at the right time, pop up to see Gary at Under the Pepper Tree (about 500 metres up the road) for some amazing food and chats. We loved our stay here, quiet and peaceful, in stunning surroundings. Thank you

  • Tess's home is the perfect place for stay for your time in Calitzdorp. The rooms are comfortable, the home is spacious and the kitchen it fully stocked. You will love spending your days on the Stoep with any of the delicious local wines, which keeps cool even when its hot. Mo and Steve are also so lovely arriving to her freshly baked brad and homemade jam was a total treat (a stop at the accidental baker is a must) Thank you so much for a wonderful stay, hope to be back soon.

    Arabella2018-04-02T00:00:00Z
  • Prashanti is a truly unique and beautiful house and quite honestly there is no real reason to leave with a big covered verandah, the lovely, peaceful view and the magnificent garden lovingly maintained by the caretaker Kerniels. The only criticism we had regarding the location was the lack of easy access to go walking in the veld which we had hoped for. That said the house is so lovely if you just want to hide away from the city in a great spot then this is for you! It's also just an easy 30 minute drive to Oudsthoorn if you have children and want to do the touristy things. All in all a relaxing and beautifully restored house full of interesting pictures and images.

    Mandy2017-04-18T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful space to spend time in. The house is beautifully decorated. We spent lots of time sitting on the outside stoep doing very little and enjoying the sounds of the church bell in the distance and the activity of the sunbirds in front of us. Welgevonden(meaning well founded) was the first B&B in the Klein Karoo when its doors opened in 1989. Many of the guests have become friends and return to the succulent capital of the world, also famous for ostriches, port wine and incredible scenery. We are situated on a 5 acre farm only 1 km from town centre. Within walking distance of 3 wine cellars. We love to share our knowledge of the area, where to drive, dine, hike, mountain bike or where best to breathe the abundance of fresh air.
Welgevonden has 4 en-suite rooms, each leading onto a verandah overlooking the garden. The pool area is on a lower part of the garden overlooking the lucerne fields and a small river. The clay-walled rooms date from 1880 with Oregon pine floors and reed ceilings reflecting the atmosphere and building styles of the Klein Karoo. Family heirlooms decorate the rooms to provide a taste of days gone by. Guests have access to a communal lounge with flat screen satellite TV, indoor fire place and local information. The communal kitchenette with microwave, kettle and fridge can be used to prepare a basic breakfast or alternatively breakfast can be provided at an extra cost. Braai facilities can be provided . Because the weather in the Klein Karoo is so good most guests spend their time on the verandah or in the garden at the pool
Calitzdorp is halfway between Cape Town and Port Elizabeth on the famous R62 which is a more scenic alternative to the N2 national highway. Calitzdorp is well known for its wines and is also called the port wine capital of South Africa. The town and surrounding areas are home to a wide variety of succulents and hosts the annual international succulent festival, showcasing incredible plants adapted to grow in the region.

My place is close to great views and family-friendly activities. You’ll love my place because of the outdoors space and the comfy bed. My place is good for couples, business travelers, and families (with kids).
Beautifully renovated old farmhouses with Oregon pine ceilings and doors. Spacious rooms with full bathrooms. Heavenly beauty and paradise peace.
The beautiful Groenfontein valley in the foothills of the Swartberg mountains is peaceful and crime-free. Eco-friendly accommodation without power lines.
  • This farm should be on everyones list to stay. Oupa Piet cottage is just so picturesque, set amidst the most stunning scenery between Calitzdorp and Oudtshoorn. The 18km drive is breathtaking and the silence so relaxing. Wonderful to be able to get away from tge hustle and bustle of city life. We hope to return.

  • We felt very comfortable and relaxed at this beautiful old farmhouse and wish we could have stayed twice as long. The place is full of character and, despite being located on farmland, gave us a strong sense of being close to genuine wilderness. You won't fail to be impressed by the many beautiful views towards the magnificent Swartberg and by the lush river valley, which is full of birds, amphibia and other wildlife. Thank you Martli and Hendrik for being such friendly and caring hosts!

    Adrian2017-12-18T00:00:00Z
  • We came here for solitude - and we got it. A large spacious house with a great view on a working farm. No internet or cell reception (unless you drive to the top of the hill) - bliss. The kids loved walking around the farm, swimming in the farm dam, watching the teams fix the furrow, bird watch etc. This is a well looked after self catering spot and we will definitely return.

  • This is an exceptional place. In a characteristic house with a great view. It's close to nature, with an great view an the mountains. The sound of the birds Will wake you. The place is about 18 kilometer from Town . I advise to take things with you or ask them to prepare things for you. The shops are not very close. Henrik was a super host. We could come anytime to his ' stoep' for the WiFi . Where can you find a place with Ostrich in your backyard?

  • Our stay at lenies hof was so charming. Calitzdorp is a really cute city a bit off the beaten track. Mo and Steve had been amazing hosts. Due to our trip planning we couldn't really say when we would arrive so we just texted them when we were on our way and they even shortened their lunchbreak just for us. We really appreciated their hospitality. Mo even did prepare an amazing breakfast for us with really delicious bread. Anyone who is there should really try it, it is awesome. If you are interested in beauty and cosmetics: they even do their own cosmetics products which are also worth a try. The cabin is really cosy and cute and has everything it needs and we even could use the pool at the main house. Absolutely recommendable.

    Livia2020-01-06T00:00:00Z
  • Mo’s place is truly a hidden gem! We had an amazing time and Mo was so generous and helpful. She did that little extra to make our stay unforgettable. From the local tips to the lovely breakfast basket.

  • This is the standard that all Airbnb’s should aim for. Thoughtful design touches, kind and generous hospitality and a sincerity of purpose. Mo and Steve have created an oasis off the beaten track that we would highly recommend to all. Enjoy the peaceful surroundings or the fruits of their hard labour. Our stay was too brief - we regret not staying longer. Thank you for hosting us. All the best with the farm

The Old School House is a spacious 3 bedroomed free-standing house which stands alone on a hill overlooking the valley and surrounding Swartberg Mountain range. It is situated on The River Farm on the Gamka river.
The Old School House is situated in the Matjiesvlei valley on The River Farm 14km outside of Calitzdorp in the heart of a World Biodiversity Hotspot in the Little Karoo.
The River Farm is situated in a little valley 7km off the R62. There is only one meandering gravel road in and out of the valley (and no through roads), making it one of the safest places in the world. By the way, this 7km gravel road is in a good condition and absolutely fine for a normal sedan car.

  • A little piece of heaven!! What a beautiful place, fab design with everything you need in terms of our stay, every detail thought about. From the colours of the rooms to equipment the look and feel is so cool. Bronwyn and her boys were perfect hosts, I could not recommend this place highly enough. The view and surroundings were peaceful and loved no wifi, TV or cell coverage! If you need it the farm house is just a short walk. The river was warm and the use of the canoes a real bonus. Loved it all!

  • Wow, what's not to love about The Old School House? It's the perfect stop on the N62. Beautifully appointed and in an amazing location, we loved our stay. A chance to relax and unplug from the hassle of modern day life with all the comforts you need. The river was great to swim in and the canoes gave a chance to explore up and downstream. Truly peaceful and enchanting. The braai/bbq facilities were great, and the stars at night time were just beautiful and a pleasure to see. Jock the Jack Russell kept watch for us and was a real addition to the experience. What a great character he is. I can't imagine a nicer place to unwind and Bronwyn and her family are ideal hosts. Thank you for a wonderful stay.
