Places to stay in Checkendon
A light and sunny open-plan lodge, with private deck and lovely views over open fields. Awarded Gold standard from Green Tourism UK. Fully equipped kitchen, TV, wifi, double bed, open-out sofa bed, dining table, shower room and utility room with washing machine.
A 45m2 open plan lodge built using hemp, engineered timber, with green walls, green roof and fitted with triple glazed windows and doors, LED lighting & far infrared heating. The lodge is a separate building within our property with the best views out to open fields. It has an open plan design allowing guests to have a continuous view of the countryside. It has a fully equipped kitchen, double bed and open-out sofa bed, dining table, satellite TV, including Sky movies and sports, and wifi. Outside there's a large decked area for relaxing in the sunshine or cooking on the BBQ. There's a small utility room with a washing machine and ample space to hang coats. The space is very private and guests have their own deck to admire the view and relax and watch the sunsets over sundowners. There's plenty of parking and places to store bikes, or we have bikes available to rent at a nominal charge on request (please let us know if advance) if you aren't able to bring your own. We provide coffee, tea, milk, and sugar and, when we can find them, some eggs from our free-ranging chickens when they are laying. We can arrange for local produce and wine during your stay at an additional cost. The lodge is also equipped with a nesting box with integrated camera so you can secretly watch the nesting and brooding habits of the resident blue tits in the Spring. We have a travel cot available on request at no extra charge. We are only 3 miles from the nearest railway station at Cholsey so can arrange transport from the station on request if you would like a car-free break. We are on a number of on and off-road cycle routes so we are an ideal location if you are either just passing through or wanting to stick around a bit to fully explore the area. If cycling and walking is not your thing, then there are plenty of sites to see within a very short drive by car. The remains of Wallingford Castle which was the first Norman castle to be commissioned by William the Conqueror is only 2 miles away. The historic village of Ewelme with the oldest continually functioning Church school (founded 1437) in England is also 2 miles away. Henley is 15 minutes by car but there's also a regular bus between Henley and Wallingford. We have a range of local maps in the lodge showing all the walking and biking paths in the area, from short walks to full day hikes and trails. We are situated less than a mile from the Ridgeway National Trail which is a 85 mile mostly off road trail across the Chiltern Hills and Berkshire Downs. There is a dense network of bridle ways and footpaths linking historic towns and villages for you to explore. The lodge is close to both Wallingford and Henley with many gastro pubs in between. The area is steeped in history with Bronze Age hill forts, villages with Roman ancestry, Saxon earthworks and Norman castles and churches. There are farmers markets, regattas, music and art festivals, car and steam rallies all happening throughout spring, summer and autumn within a 10 mile radius. Henley Royal Regatta is perhaps the most famous followed by Henley Festival but the likes of the Wallingford Blues and Beer festival presents some interesting niche activities to entertain you. A list of events going on in the area: Wallingford Regatta 6th May 2018 Wallingford Car Rally 13th May 2018 Wallingford Food Festival May 2018 Wallingford Rugfest Music festival June 2018 Henley Royal Regatta 4th - 8th July 2018 Henley Festival July 2018 Rewind Festival Henley August 2018 Wallingford Bunkfest September 2018

  • Lovely cosy well-equipped space. Plenty of maps and walk suggestions as well as games and jigsaws for rainy days. Easy to do as a car-free break. Very homey space with everything we could want - thanks for the chocolate and marmalade!

    Claire2020-03-11T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great weekend at the Eco Lodge and Tim was very helpful in every way, even sorting my flat battery when we were leaving. It was a very clean and a welcoming Lodge with all the amenities you would like. The bonus of Sky TV to just make it even better for the weekend football. Tim has some very interesting stories to tell and we were very impressed with the Eco Lodge and how it was constructed. Very warm and cosy... Thanks again Tim, great weekend. we will be back in the Summer for sure.

  • The annex is a really great place to stay. Quiet, peaceful location. Lots of room, everything you'd want, lashings of hot water and a really comfy (squeak-free!) bed. This wasn't my first stay, and it won't be my last!

    Clive2020-03-04T00:00:00Z
  • A very homely and cosy space with absolutely no interruption or interference from anyone or anything.

    Glenn2020-03-02T00:00:00Z
  • Tim's ecolodge was a great place for a short and relaxing escape from the city. It's beautifully designed and presented, private and has a wonderful view (perfect for doing nothing).

The room is light, airy and well maintained. We prefer to let rooms to professional males working away from home. The house is quiet and set in lovely surroundings. We supply a continental breakfast on request. We are situated approx 3 miles from Reading and 5 miles from Henley on Thames. There is private parking for a car, sorry no vans. There is a regular bus service to Reading. Local shops are close by.
The property is situated on the edge of Sonning Common Village....The room overlooks a large rear garden and countryside beyond...
Lovely quiet neighbourhood, good choice of local shops. The house is situated only a few minutes walk away from the surrounding countryside, ideal for walkers. Henley is a 12 minute drive, for shopping, riverside and walking.

  • Sue's house was just lovely. The room was perfect, nicely decorated, with a very comfy bed and a bathroom right next door. Great garden view out of the window too, with a visiting pheasant every morning! There were tasty things set up for breakfast each day and I also really appreciated having a fridge, microwave and tea and coffee facilities in the room. Sue was a perfect hostess, very welcoming and friendly. I would highly recommend this room and would welcome the opportunity to stay again.

  • I had a great stay at Ian's house. The room is very comfortable and ian is a great host, welcoming and very helpful when it came to things to see and what to do around the area. Would recommend! Was perfect for a couple nights stay.

  • Great place.

    Valentina2019-12-14T00:00:00Z
  • If you're looking for a simple, clean and practical room for the night you can't beat this for the price.

    Iain2019-11-24T00:00:00Z
  • Very good place to be. Perfect price and quality balance.

    Liusjenas2019-10-26T00:00:00Z
  • Ian was a lovely host who was interested to get to know a bit about me and tell a bit about himself when I arrived over a cup of tea. After that we were both very busy so unfortunately we didn't get a chance to catch up before I left but I had a really good stay. Check-in with the little key pad box at the door was super easy and meant that I didn't have to worry about losing the key while I was out and about. The room was a bit bigger than it looked in the picture and there was a nicer little table/desk than in the picture so that was great, very useful. There was the opportunity to use the living room and kitchen as well, and the lovely garden with views of the make beyond. Very reasonably priced too, really can't fault, so would stay again in future if the opportunity arises.

    Ilse2019-10-21T00:00:00Z
  • Excellent stay. Lovely room. Great communication and flexibility by Ian. Definitely would stay again.

Beautiful country cottage in the heart of Checkendon. 15 minutes away from Henley- on- thames and 20minutes away from Reading also around an hours drive up the M40 or M4 to London. If you are looking for a tranquil escape from a busy city this is the perfect house to relax, take long country walks and enjoy the surrounding area.
All the house is for guest use. Front and back gardens and all rooms
The house is situated in a small village next to the church, in the heart of the country side. You have the best of both worlds with a town only a short drive away there are plenty of options for days out. Or if you are looking to rest, relax and recuperate then this is the perfect place to do so. Countryside walks and countryside pubs are a plenty. Some suggestions below. Checkondon: For Sunday Roasts recommend the: www.thecherrytreeinn.co.uk Or the King William: www.kingwilliamhailey.co.uk And the Highway man: www.thehighwaymaninn-checkendon.co.uk For supermarkets the Co-op is close in Sonning Common Reading station 7 miles away.. Fast 30 min trains to London Henley on thames 7 miles away. Plenty of restaurants bars and walks along the river.
  • With a warming fire to welcome you in, this is the perfect spot for a very comfortable, cozy rural retreat.

    Belle2020-02-07T00:00:00Z
  • This is a really wonderful Chiltern location. There is a great variety of walks and bike rides on the doorstep, as well as towns and villages with pubs, shops and everything else you need. The cottage itself features white walls and dark timber beams plus a log fire with supply of logs, and faces a 12th Century Norman church. The facades of the church, the cottage and other local buildings feature the local flint. Despite its great age, the cottage offers all mod cons. I can recommend it for anyone who wants to get away from it all for a while.

    Daniel2019-12-29T00:00:00Z
  • Wonderfully cosy cottage in a picture perfect setting

    Jono2019-12-26T00:00:00Z
  • Such a beautiful cottage in a lovely quiet village. Kiri was a great host who looked after us well, even making the fire in anticipation of our arrival so it was nice and toasty!

    Nicole2019-12-21T00:00:00Z
  • This is a sweet cottage with all you’d need for a comfortable stay. There aren’t amenities in the village, but you don’t have to venture too far in a car to find a shop or a pub for a nice meal. There are some nice walks. The church is directly opposite and, whilst there, I took the opportunity to have a look inside. A quiet and quaint stay.

    Janet2019-11-23T00:00:00Z
  • My wife and I were looking to take my parents away for a relaxing, cosy weekend in the country and Kiri's place was perfect for exactly that. It is a beautiful little cottage in a quiet, picturesque country village. We went on a lovely walk through local woods and fields right out from the front doorstep and ended up at the Black Horse (a 10/10 for any traditional pub lovers) which was simply amazing. The beds are comfy, the fire warm, the atmosphere incredibly cosy and I would thoroughly recommend to anyone. Thanks Kiri!

I can not fault her! Fantastic location, with only a ten min walk to the top of Whitchurch where you can really have a good ramble through the Chilterns. Fantastic place, and will be returning one day. 😊

A cosy quiet country retreat, in the heart of the Chilterns. Within spitting distance of the famous Crooked Billett restaurant/Pub and the Maharajah's well. 10 minutes drive to Henley on Thames, where the Henley Royal regatta and Rewind festival are held.
The room is a loft conversion with antique furniture and a host of pictures and nick/nacks!
It is quiet peaceful, and beautiful. Plenty of walks amidst the Chilterns.
  • In the heart of the chilterns, beautiful cycling from the doorstep, pub just across the road with good food. Serena and James both wonderful and welcoming hosts, that went above and beyond to make our stay special. Thank you, will return in the future!

  • Serena’s home is full of character, lovely stylish touches. Comfortable room, stairs a little challenging for an oldie, but nothing is too much trouble for Serena.

  • Serena went out of her way to help my stay be more comfortable and relaxed - she provided home cooked food for me (I'm vegetarian) and anything else I needed. I stayed for 4 nights as I was working at Stonor Park - James and Serena were really friendly, easy-going, kind and helpful and I felt welcome and relaxed in their home. The bed is really comfy and clean too and I slept like a log. Would definitely stay again.

  • Serena and James were very welcoming, and I would happily stay with them again.

    Jane2019-09-19T00:00:00Z
  • Although we were only staying briefly Serena's hospitality was second to none. She saved the day after I accidentally cut my partner's dress strap and cured our wedding party hangovers with great breakfast and conversation. Lovely host, great home.

A beautiful, cosy, dog-friendly house on a peaceful close in a stunning riverside village. This is the perfect place to retreat to, nestled between the natural beauty of the Chilterns one side and the North Wessex Downs the other side. Goring on Thames is a lively little village with stunning walks, amazing pubs & plenty of live music & arts events throughout the year. Don’t hesitate to contact me.
The medium-sized private room is perfect for one or two people. You are welcome to bring your well-behaved dog (although please discuss on booking) and dog sitting is possible through prearrangement at extra cost. We have a cockapoo who loves everyone and every thing. You’ll be sharing the house with me and my husband but we’ll do our best to be discreet. Breakfast will be basic (tea/coffee, toast, spreads and limited cereal selection) and self-serve but I’ll be on hand for anything. Tea making facilities are not available in the bedroom but you are welcome to use the kitchen for making tea. Check-in is after 5pm and check-out is before 9am, however, if you have a particular request we will do our best to accommodate you. Please ask when you contact me.
Goring on Thames is one of the prettiest villages on the Thames. It is set nestled in stunning countryside and there are beautiful walks/cycle rides straight from the door step, taking you along the river, through nature reserves, over hills or into woods. The oldest road in Britain, the ridgeway trail, passes straight through the village (end of our road!) and this takes you over hills and through valleys and woods. Although Goring has enough to offer so you may not even feel the need to get in your car there is also so much other stuff within easy reach. The City of Dreaming Spires, Oxford, is only 40 mins away (car or train (direct line, station walking distance)). It’s also only 25 minute drive to Harwell Oxford, Chilton, so if you’re looking for a mid-week retreat after a hard working day this will be perfect!
  • Very convenient for Goring facilities. Friendly owners.

The outside space was built to harness a glamping experience looking over a wonderful open view of fields and woodland, with a large sky to star gaze into and to find inspiration. The cabin has a fridge and an electric eco heater. Beside the hut there is a 1966 VW camper van that can be used as a sitting room, to enjoy the landscape and to eat in.
The hut was originally a potting shed, however the glass has been changed to toughened laminated glass, the hut is heavily insulated and a purpose built bed as been fitted. Food can be cooked on a gas heater or barbecue, both are provided. There is a fire pit for extra out door warmth. The toilet is at the back of the main house and can be entered with out disturbing the house. The environment provides a place for retreat, respite, restoration, fun and glamping experiences. Due to lock down, we need to communicate around needs and being safe in the isolation space. the cabin has an eco setting and deep heat setting, it is cosy at this time of year but it's a space. there is a VW van parked beside it to create privacy.
There are many forest walks, with wildlife including owls, deer, rabbits, foxes, horses and kites.

  • This is a great little hideaway, we went for a bit of time out and it was just what we needed. The space is immaculate a very high spec and well thought out. Great walks on the door step and lots of choice for eating out, but the cooking facilities in the apartment are good too. Only thing that was a slight irritation for us the first night was the noise from the hot water tap as it maintained it's temp - but didn't really notice it the next evening. Tracey is a fantastic host, great communication and makes you feel very welcome. Thank you :)

    Lorna2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • Can’t recommend highly enough, everything about the Lodge is perfect. Some really nice little touches too, Tracey is a very considerate host. Spotlessly clean, very high spec and really cosy. Perfect for a romantic weekend.

  • Tracey’s place was perfect for a few days of peace and quiet out of the city. Gorgeous place with all the accessories you could want (smart tv, sonos sound, fully equipped kitchen and some breakfast items ready in the fridge!). Tracey also gave us loads of great recommendations for walks and pubs in the area. It was a fantastic place to stay!

    Lila2019-12-21T00:00:00Z
  • Tracey’s home is absolutely amazing - we loved staying here. All of the facilities are high quality and it is spotlessly clean. The apartment is large and comfortable and exactly as shown in the pictures. There are lots of lovely local pubs nearby. We will be back again. Tracey was welcoming and very kind. We really appreciated the breakfast items and local recommendations in the welcome book. Thank you, Tracey.

  • Very Stylish Property This property is outstanding, very clean lots of attention to detail and very cosy. The area is also excellent for walking and lots of good Pubs for food, we ate at The Unicorn and it was very welcoming warm on a cold winters night and the family who owned it were very obliging, the food was excellent. We would stay here again definately. Tracey is lovely, very knowledgeable and helpful.

    Paul2019-11-23T00:00:00Z
  • Tracey was a fantastic host and was happy to oblige every request, always on hand if we needed anything from facilities to local tips and recommendations. Every touch had been considered and made our stay very comfortable. Tracey offered great advice and tips on local pubs, restaurants and walks which meant we were never short of something to do. Lots of home comforts within the lodge itself and it was great to have access to Sonos for music, Netflix and Sky for entertainment and breakfast consisting of juice, bread, eggs, cereal and milk was a lovely touch.

A rural fully-equipped self-catering lodge built upon recycled tyre foundations and powered by the wind and sun at the rear of a rural business centre. The lodge is set in a rural location a few miles from the historic town of Wallingford. It has its own fenced garden with South-facing sun deck and views over open fields.
The lounge/dining room, bedroom and kitchen look over open fields to the south, with double French doors leading onto a sunny full-length deck. We have chickens, geese and sheep in the next door fields. The lodge has been designed to absorb any winter sunshine but is shaded throughout the summer months thereby offering a comfortable internal climate throughout the year. There is a small wood burner so the lodge is warm and toasty on those cold winter evenings, as well as energy-efficient infra-red heater panels in the bedroom and bathroom. The lodge has a large open-plan dining/lounge area, with a separate small well-equipped kitchen and a shower room leading off from the entrance hallway. The spacious bedroom with a large double as well as a single bed has double French doors leading onto the front decking. The kitchen is fully equipped with washing machine, gas oven, microwave, toaster, bodum-style coffee pot & frother and a good selection of kitchenware and utensils. A wooden deck with patio furniture runs along the whole of the South-facing side of the building, looking over the garden and fields beyond.
This area is great for walking, cycling and visiting historic sites. The "Ridgeway" which is an 87 mile national trail, is about 3/4 mile away.

  • Sarah's place was in a great location on a quiet road and just a short walk to the shops and pubs. There is a little path to the railway bridge where we even saw a hedgehog! The studio is large with a big bathroom downstairs. We were both comfortable and had plenty of space as well. Sarah also really kindly provided milk, bread and some pastries which really helped out the first morning - thank you Sarah! We would definitely recommend staying here.

  • A lovely studio apartment, stylish and comfortable, with lovely finishes and plenty of space, and amazing, rural views of the countryside. Hosts Sarah and Ian were very pleasant and helpful with a few issues I encountered during my stay, as an example had a flat battery on my car, and they were able to assist with addressing this so I was not left stranded. Would recommend this apartment, lovely bathroom downstairs, and peaceful, stress-free place to stay. Sad to leave in some ways after a prolonged stay whilst looking for a longer-term place to live in the local area.

  • Highly recommend staying here! If you're looking for a little getaway in a cabin that makes you feel you're away from the world then this is the place for you! Elsa is a lovely host, she replies so quickly and will look after you as much as you need or like with us she greeted us and then left us to have a private stay. The hot tub was so great and we didn't miss having a TV at all! The BBQ is there but we didn't use it as the microwave, toaster and kettle were enough for us all weekend and the river and pubs are a walk away! There are so many nice outdoor seating areas around or you can cosy up in the really big bed! The whole place was very clean and had some nice towels and beding to use and even though the bathroom is tiny it's just what you need! Elsa even left us some milk and had tea and coffee available and some little sweets if you felt like a tiny something. Would love to come and stay again it was great!

  • A wonderful weekend retreat! Peaceful, private, very spacious outdoor space ... most of all loved the proximity to river, the hot tub and the boma area. We did two walks along the river into Pangbourne where you can find pubs and Costa coffee. Spotted a glimpse of a little buck that had wondered into the back garden - another highlight! Elsa was friendly and gave us a good introduction to the space before leaving us to relax and enjoy. We definitely hope to be back again!

  • Charlotte’s place was fantastic and perfect. Really nice touches, lovely country location. Charlotte’s communication was excellent and very prompt. Susan greeted me with a smile, showed me everything I needed to know and was great. I had such a good night’s sleep, the bed was so comfortable and the room (newly renovated) was really cosy with everything I needed. I just wish I had reason to stay here for more nights. I would highly recommend this place. Peter

  • Beautiful location and outstanding hosts. Really enjoyed my stay.

    Molly2020-02-07T00:00:00Z
  • We had a wonderful stay at Charlotte’s place and were made to feel very welcome throughout! The location is lovely being nestled in the woods and surrounded by walking trails. We didn’t have a car however this wasn’t a problem as a bus goes through Nettlebed. The property itself is very cosy and it was great being able to use the kitchen. A particular highlight was using the hot tub in the evening! Overall we would definitely recommend staying here!

    Stephan2019-12-30T00:00:00Z
  • We had a lovely stay here. It's a little tricky to get to but worth it! Clean, comfy and very peaceful and we were made to feel very welcome. Would not hesitate to recommend this place for a relaxing evening

    Louise2019-11-23T00:00:00Z
  • Charlotte was great on the communication/directions portion before our arrival. Then Susan took over as the perfect hostess during our stay. She gave personal tips about local sights and insights into local British community, which was one of our main goals in staying in an AirBNB in a village. Accommodatios were tops!

  • The best airbnb experience I have ever had. A truly wonderful getaway that feels super private despite being an annex. Lovely surrounding countryside too!

    Michael2019-12-30T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed for two days over Christmas, but wish we could’ve stayed for longer! Donna Ida’s place was beautifully decorated and full of thoughtful touches that made our stay extra special.

  • Staying here was amazing. It is a lovely space and perfect for a couple who want to explore the area. The decor and layout is wonderful and the little touches provided are very thoughtful and most welcome. I can highly recommend staying here and will return in the future.

  • A beautiful, stylish country getaway in the heart of the English countryside. The little house is chic, and full of thoughtful touches. Donna is superb hostess and made us feel very welcome. Would strongly recommend.

  • I can't say enough wonderful things about Donna Ida's "Little House". The style and charm of this listing caught my eye immediately and had me booking farther from the Heathrow area than I had originally planned - And not for one moment did that decision disappoint. I'm sure it's a bit more convenient to come with a car but I traveled to Pangbourne Station by train. Donna kindly offered to pick me up. She was a warm and generous host from start to finish (her husband and their three chihuahuas too!). The Little House is decorated stunningly. You feel like you're walking into the set of a photoshoot...and then you realize that you get to stay there! The space is comfortable and easy to use. It is well stocked with anything you might need. The bed is absolutely dreamy. The mattress incredibly comfortable and the linens soft and plentiful. Flying in from Jamaica leading up to some work in the UK, this was the perfect place for me to sleep away some of my jet lag and adjust to the timezone. Donna loaned me her membership card for Basildon Park, which is just a short walk down the street. I enjoyed exploring the property and seeing the holiday decorations inside the historic home. The farm shop there is also not to be missed. Another recommendation of the hosts was to check out the recently opened Coppa Club on the Thames in Streatley. It was beautiful place for dinner, and not far from The Little House. I wish I could have stayed in Lower Basildon even longer. I will most definitely return to The Little House the next time I find myself in this part of England. If you have an opportunity to book this place, don't miss it!

    Sky2019-12-03T00:00:00Z
  • Stunning space thoughtfully decorated. Lots of lovely additional extra touches which made the stay more special. The view from their back garden is beautiful and gives a nice peaceful feel to enjoy your morning coffee! Would definitely book again if in the area.

  • Donna is a star. It was such a great experience staying at Donna’s amazing place. Along side with these beautiful countryside landscapes, absolutely a pure joy to drive by. Massive parking space. It felt so private and quiet, yet still got someone out there whenever you need. The bed is heaven! And there’s a cute little stone squirrel bench in the garden, with yellow leaves falling, and grey squirrels running around...there’s just so much to be appreciated. Thanks to Donna and her husband who made these happen.

    Jing2019-11-27T00:00:00Z
  • A totally fabulous place to stay! The Little House is so beautiful, wonderfully styled and very relaxing. The views and relaxing setting are just amazing. The house itself is super comfortable and everything you need is provided. Donna is a super host, our stay felt very private but we knew if we needed any help it was right there. Thank you Donna and Bob xx The small details make all the difference, I highly recommend a stay.

  • My friend and I had a lovely stay in Anita’s annex. She was very helpful and responsive. The bed was comfortable, apartment was warm and location was great and we had a lovely walk in the surrounding downs. Thank you for a great stay!

  • This was a lovely self-contained annex including a fully-equipped kitchen. Anita was an excellent host and even provided milk and home-made granola for breakfast. There location is great for walking with easy access to Goring.

    Sarah2020-02-18T00:00:00Z
  • Anita’s place is located in a scenic village with lovely walks, pubs etc but conveniently located for Reading and other local amenities. The Annex is spotlessly clean, warm and cozy with all facilities for short and long term stays. Anita is very welcoming and friendly but also respects your privacy. I would thoroughly recommend Anita’s place.

Nestled away in my garden in the pretty village of Goring-on-thames is my cosy caravan. My garden is very peaceful and very private. . Its a quiet village with a train station and a few shops. The caravan is in a private garden it has a double bed, fridge, heating, complimentry tea and coffee and kettle and seating area. We do have a small dog and cats so animal lovers only please. The bathroom is shared and is a very short walk from the caravan.
ideally a stay would be on a b and b basis with check in on a weekday after 5pm and at weekends other times may be arranged. Contractors working in or around the village may find this ideal as it's such good value. Breakfast is a choice of cereals, toast, eggs, yogurt or porridge, on a help yourself basis, with fresh fruit always available ( included in price) .Access to the bathroom is restricted during weekdays due to our dog so guests would idealy shower or bath at the latest 9am, although guests would be welcome to stay in the caravan all morning. In special circumstances arrangements can be made to use the bathroom later than 9,best to ask on booking. Guests may use the kitchen but i like to keep my living room private. There is a parking space and bikes can be left in the garden and covered over if necessary. Goring does have a bus service for the local area and the train station is a ten minute walk. If you need help with getting around I would help if I can . This is a quiet space and we dont allow loud music, please bear in mind this is a caravan in a pretty secluded garden an upmarket camping experience in a way!
Goring is a very pretty village in the heart of South Oxfordshire by the river Thames. There is lots of scenic walks and it's popular with ramblers and cyclists. It has a few shops and a choice of restaurants to suit all. It is also popular with George Michael fans as he used to live in the village.
  • Great Value, lovely little space. Note toilet is in the house so you have to venture to Kathleen's for the bathroom but that was never a problem. V Hospitable, even couple of cans of cider in the fridge and breakfast fruit, yogurt and cereal provided for the money.

A unique opportunity to stay in Brunel's Station Master's House, dating from 1840. Located within easy access of the village centre and a stones throw away from Goring station. The spectacular scenery is the setting for such classic books as Wind in the Willows, Watership Down and Three Men in a Boat. Views of Goring Lock, the weirs and the rural landscape, are some of the most photographed and painted scenes in England. Goring has a good selection of local shops, restaurants and pubs!
A hardwood door leads into an entrance lobby with staircase and doors into the reception rooms, including a front aspect sitting room, with an open fire, and an additional front aspect snug with a wood burner. The snug leads through to the kitchen/diner, fitted with a seven burner gas range, Belfast sink, and an understairs storage cupboard. The dining area has a decorative fireplace with cast iron surround, and a door to the rear. To complete the accommodation there is a conservatory accessed from the kitchen. An entirely self contained private home recently converted from a Georgian stable and cottage. The property is adjacent to the owners property but is entirely separate with it’s own secure parking and entrance. Located in a small village, with two pubs and charming village shop on doorstep. Market town of Wallingford (setting for “Midsomer Murders”) is a short walk with many amenities including the River Thames outdoor pool (summer months), many restaurants and shops including a new Waitrose.
The entire property is dedicated to guests and includes three bedrooms, a hall, utility room, and large kitchen, dining and relaxing area. You also have your own off street secure private parking area for one vehicle (including security lights and camera).
Great location to explore historic market town of Wallingford with its beautiful river walks along the Thames Path and castle gardens, setting of many “Midsomer Murders” and the home of Agatha Christie. 10 miles from Henley on Thames with its boat rides along one of the most scenic stretches of the river, and of course it’s regatta and festivals during the summer months. We are 13 miles from the dreaming spires of Oxford steeped in history, and with a state of the art fantastic new shopping, bar and restaurant complex. There are always lovely walks in the Chiltern Hills or along the Ridgeway, or for those with a passion for history or shopping, Blenheim Palace and Bicester Village are both very convenient, around 40 mins by car. There are many National Trust properties within easy reach, Nuffield Place, Greys Court, Basildon Park, and Hughenden, and for those with young children Beale Park is always a great favourite. Excellent dining out options on the doorstep, there is a “hungry horse” restaurant/pub just up the street, and a historic 14th century pub over the road serving traditional ales and good selection of seasonal and traditional British fare utilising local produce. Wallingford has restaurants for almost every budget and taste and of course many cafes/take-away options. The village park (5min walk) has a “state of art” children’s playground including zip wire, and a wide selection of outdoor gym equipment for those keen on a workout. There is also a bookable tennis court, and a further short walk will take you to the outdoor heated swimming pool (summer months), and jubilee splash park both set on the banks of the River Thames.
  • Do not hesitate to book your stay here. It is just the most stunning space. So calming and conveniently located. We really enjoyed our time here and can’t wait til our next stay! The master bed was soooo comfortable. We didn’t want to check out on the last morning, the sleep was amazing!

Bed is really comfortable and blackout blind on velux above bed :) 2 little chairs in front of very small tv with freeview - was adequate but we would have liked a sofa or bigger tv to watch from bed & netflix! Next time we will bring laptop. We would love to stay again. very peaceful and private which is what we were after. Yummy home made bread and jam and own chickens eggs! thank you.

  • Lovely hideaway near a great local pub with good food. Good area to explore, wish we were there longer but would thoroughly recommend.

  • A glowing recommendation from me. I loved staying in this property as it was incredibly cosy and secluded. There were great walking trails nearby and the fresh eggs and bread were such a nice touch. Highly recommended.

  • A wonderfully secluded getaway. The property and surrounding area is incredibly peaceful, and there is the most amazing pub just down the road (9 min walk). Katharine and Dickie were lovely; quick responses, and very hospitable.

  • We stayed at the cottage as we went to a wedding in the local area. The location of the cottage is beautiful and quiet. We needed a slightly earlier check in which was accommodated for. It felt a little cold when we first walked in but realised the heating was on a timer so once we worked that out and put it on to suit us, it soon warmed up. The homemade bread and selection of breakfast options was a lovely touch. Communication was great and we would highly recommend.

  • Annies barn is gorgeous. It was beautifully decorated for Christmas. We stayed in order to attend a wedding in a nearby town and this place was perfect for it. She left us a lovely breakfast and there was even a toaster in the flat as well! It is in a area with gorgeous rolling hills and a few great pubs a short walk away. Highly recommend it.

  • What a delightful annexe and the hospitality shown by Nigel & Jilly is second to none. Nigel’s home made bread in the welcome pack was delicious and a really nice touch. Have already recommended to someone else for a place to stay in the area.

    Chris2020-01-30T00:00:00Z
  • Wonderful place, amazing host, we had such a nice break!

    Jennifer2020-01-04T00:00:00Z
  • Wow! I have stayed in Airbnbs all over the world and Jilly's place is by far the best - sparkling clean, super comfortable and so well appointed. Don't hesitate - just book!

    Catherine2019-10-14T00:00:00Z
  • The accommodation was everything you could wish for. Nigel and Jilly went the extra mile on everything, the place was spotlessly clean, the view from the lounge across the garden through the french window was lovely and the store cupboard that they provided for us was great, especially Nigel's homemade bread. We thoroughly recommend it.

    Jan2019-07-14T00:00:00Z
  • We really enjoyed our stay. It was a perfect location for our trip. The accommodation was lovely - really nicely decorated and clean. Jilly and Nigel were very friendly and we really enjoyed Nigella our homemade bread that was left for us 😊. We would 100% recommend!

  • Jilly and Nigel are great hosts, we received a very warm welcome and were given a detailed tour of the flat plus lots of ideas what to do. Welcome pack contained milk, jam, butter, water, chocolats, olives and Nigels self baked bread - delicious! Tea and coffee, sugar, salt and pepper, etc... was provided as well. Kitchen is equipped with everything needed for preparing a meal. Living room with comfy sofa and dining area, flat-tv with sky channels, good Wifi. Big bedroom with a very comfortable bed and more than enough space for our belongings. Bathroom very well equipped. The flat is very clean, beautifully decorated and furnished. The location is perfect for a stay in the Thames Valley, Henley and Marlow only a short drive away. Very good train connections from Reading or Twyford to London. All in all an excellent choice and very good value for money. We can highly recommend this place! Thanks again to Jilly and Nigel for a very pleasant stay.

  • A very nice place to stay, near to many pretty THAMES side towns and close to Reading and lots of amenities. The area was quiet and the garden area a very chilled area to sit out and relax. The apartment has everything one could wish for in terms of equipment and Nigel and Jill are very welcoming hosts.
