A 770 sq. ft. studio with a kitchenette, lg. bathroom, private courtyard, ground level just steps from the Mississippi river in the historic river town of McGregor, Iowa. Many police and fireman memorabilia decorate the comfortable lodging. There is a kitchen area with coffee maker, toaster, microwave, refrigerator, and two stove burners for light cooking only. The kitchen and bathroom areas are floored with new vinyl. New carpeting throughout the rest of the suite.
This space is in an 1874 building that housed the town jail and firehouse. Upstairs were the mayor's office and city council rooms.
You will be located in the historic district block of McGregor a very short walk from the Mississippi Riverfront and other historic buildings.

  • Rich and Char are wonderful hosts. We had a nice relaxing stay in this charming river town. Anything you need is within walking distance. We always wanted to stay here and so glad we did. The communication was great and the place was homey but with a lot of history. They had alot of little touches like fresh muffins in the fridge and snacks if you needed them. I cannot wait to stay again. If you are wanting a great place to stay look no further!

Welcome to beautiful Volga Iowa! Roomy space, well kept and perfect as your home base for trout fishing, mushroom hunting, deer hunting, kayaking the Volga or any other activity this beautiful part of the state has to offer. Located on 28 acres with the Volga river running through the property it is serene. HUNTERS this is an ideal location for a home base as well as hunting on site. In late April and early May the mushrooms are everywhere up here!
Attached garage. Originally this property was a turkey farm. It is referred to by old timers as "turkey town". That's what the long sheds are on the property.
Go to Wadena for a Barney Burger, Elkader for a 2 mit burger and a pastry from Pedrettis.
  • Beautiful well kept home. Chris and Kathleen are superb hosts and keep the place spick and span for all visitors. It is very spacious, has a good sized table for sharing a meal or games, and a well furnished kitchen for ease of cooking. Added bonus that their garage is for guest use, so I didn't have to scrape frost off of my car. This home is not the most accessible for those with mobility issues; all entrances to the house are up a set of stairs, however then all amenities are on the same level.

I've shut the water off for the season. It'll be back on in the spring. I am still accepting reservations. Step back in time a bit and take it a little off the beaten path. The Tack Shed is a 12'x14' getaway constructed almost entirely from reclaimed or homesawn materials.
This is a rustic throw back bunkhouse style shed. There's no A/C but the windows open, have screens, and there's a fan. There's a shower and sink in the shed but to use the toilet you'll have to come in through the side entrance of my house to access the half bath. Don't expect the Ritz. There's gonna be dust, maybe a fly or two, and the climb to the loft is steep. But if you are looking for a one of a kind place to rest your head and get away from everything.... You just found it!
I'm pretty much off the beaten path here. You can sit outside on a clear night and see every star in the sky. My neighbors are a ways off and no yard lights are visible. You're basically surrounded by pasture ground.
  • Charming cabin, friendly and helpful host, warm in winter, comfortable bed.

    Edward2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • The place was the perfect getaway for my partner I! The lack of running water and wifi made it impossible to do work which was the goal of our little vacation. Great proximity to ice climbing in Wyalusing State Park and Lone Rock!

    Tiffany2020-02-22T00:00:00Z
  • My boyfriend and I had a great stay at the tack shed. Josh was a great host and had a nice fire going so the cabin was toasty when we arrived. Its such a cozy place with beautiful views. We loved the horses. We definitely plan on going back again.

    Jo2019-11-10T00:00:00Z
  • We really enjoyed our stay at the Tack Shed. It was a nice get-away from the city life. Josh was great with communication and making us feel welcomed.

    Destiny2019-11-03T00:00:00Z
  • Really fun! Cowboy coffee made on a hot plate is delicious! But it's not instantaneous. Bring your own coffee if you aren't a Maxwell House lover.  The wood burning stove is incredibly efficient and fun to use!  There is a space heater as well so the shed was perfect for our late arrival.  Bring some shoes that will tolerate short walks across dewy grass to the bathroom.   There is a hint of highway noise in the mornings, after the leaves have fallen.   Maggie’s Diner is just a couple of minutes away, but breakfast was only medium quality.  TMI!  We really loved staying here!!!

    Dina2019-10-27T00:00:00Z
  • The Tack Shed is the best! For any couples considering staying here, it’s *romantic* thanks to the excellent decor, great lighting, wood stove, and overall comfiness. Josh even left a bottle of wine for us, and we got to feed his horse apples!!

    Katie2019-10-20T00:00:00Z
  • We absolutely loved our stay! It was the perfect excuse to unwind in the countryside. We made the cabin a no phone zone and enjoyed playing cards and chatting by the fireplace. The location is great, near several parks for hiking and nature trails. If you want a one of a kind experience, this is the perfect place!

    Jennifer2019-10-13T00:00:00Z
  • This is a wonderful place to stay and Josh is a very inviting, informative host. Don’t let cold weather deter you— this charming space has a wood burning stove that is sure to keep you nice and toasty. The Shed is a rustic, and restful stop when you just want to get away from it all.

  • Rebecca & Scott's place offered nice spaces, and nice touches with decor so the space felt very comfortable. We would stay again! We were pleasantly surprised with what a lovely town Elkader is and enjoyed a couple of nice walks around town. It has several historical sites, interesting architecture, and a beautiful park and river walk. The town has a nice grocery store and good dining options very conveniently within a short walk from Rebecca & Scott's place.

  • This A-Frame is a peaceful place for those who want to stop and relax. This a very well maintained space with little touches that make you feel at home. I highly recommend this place!

    Kevin2019-11-03T00:00:00Z
  • This is a very nice stay, cozy and sweet. The accommodations are very accurate as advertised. The beds were comfortable and the atmosphere homey and welcoming. Sandy was a great host and was really great about communicating about parking and the challenges with the hill. That said, with the right vehicle it is so worth it to come stay at this cute little place. I loved that as we arrived we saw clear signage that showed us where to park and that we were at the right house. Thoughtful little touches were around as well. I would definitely love to stay here next time I come this way!

    Rebecca2019-11-02T00:00:00Z
  • Great little place in the woods! Very clean and everything you need for a relaxing getaway from home. Will definitely return again.

    Justin2019-10-30T00:00:00Z
  • Our second time staying here and it did not disappoint. Perfect location for a ‘do nothing’ getaway. Sandy’s place is a delight, we only ventured out for a stroll to the cute downtown and walk along the river. The rest of our time was spent playing board games, reading and drinking old fashions! The perfect spot to unwind for a weekend. Hope to do it again next year.

Nestled on a quiet side street in the "pocket city" McGregor, this tudor style cottage hugs the limestone bluffs overlooking the Mississippi river. With views of the dramatic landscape and quintissential river town, you'll be minutes walk from historic downtown for dining, boating, and antiquing, and a short drive to some of the midwest's greatet hiking, birding, and cross country skiing.
House features a large living room lined with full bookshelves and a futon, dining room and kitchen with the essentials. Cozy study off the living room is ideal for reading and relaxing with views of the Victorian riverport district. Bedrooms are fully furnished with rich wood dressers and plenty of closet space. Decor is charmingly eclectic, reflecting the excellent antique and art scene that can be enjoyed in town. Please note there are stairs to access the house from street level as the only access. Our place does not have a TV or wifi, but there is 4g coverage on most carriers.
Mcgregor offers several great restaurants and a cafe, and antique stores, library, and museum. Pikes Peak State Park is a 5 minute drive or Bike ride and offers hiking trails and picnic areas. I highly recommend Effigy Mounds National Monument, about 10 minutes drive or bike ride North, for great hiking and cultural experience. Prairie Du Chien, Wisconsin, is across the bridge about 15 minutes drive, offers shopping and most major chains. Boating and fishing along the river is very popular as well.
  • Here is a cozy and uncomplicated place of refuge. Set back from the hub of main street, Matt's place is tucked away and still walk-able to restaurants and pubs. There are shelves of books in almost every room with something for everyone that reads. I plan to make this a regular stay as I come up to hike among the bear effigies.

  • Great location in town and very spacious rooms and kitchen. Beautiful sunny room off the south side that would be awesome for coffee in the morning! Very convenient and super clean!

    Barbara2019-12-22T00:00:00Z
  • Nice, spacious house in scenic town. We were in town for the holiday, wish we had time to explore McGregor. Good communication and friendly caretakers.

    Brandon2019-11-29T00:00:00Z
  • The house was so charming! I love old homes and it was a delight to stay here. Very clean with great kitchen amenities. Bring your own spices for cooking. Just a couple minutes walk from Main Street and all the shops. Thanks for a great weekend! Unrelated to the house: If you take the stairway across the street down to Main Street, be careful. I rolled my foot on a broken step. Again, this is not on the property, it's a public stairway across the street.

    Allison2019-10-13T00:00:00Z
  • Clean and comfortable. Close to everything. On street parking. Quiet neighborhood.

    Larry2019-10-06T00:00:00Z

This turn-of-the-century home is 2 blocks from downtown Elkader in a residential neighborhood. A vibrant Iowa town hosting a variety of restaurants, bars, public art murals, movie theater and opera house, the Turkey River runs downtown, with fishing, canoeing and kayaking. This 1 bedroom upstairs apartment has a Queen and single bed in a bedroom adjacent to a dining area with full kitchen and bath. Enjoy the privacy of your own space in this quiet neighborhood walking distance from everything.
There is off-street parking on the side of the house with a path to the back staircase up to the door of the apartment. There is a full-time tenant living below and the other side of the house is set up as a short-term rental for larger groups. The apartment was created from the house a number of years ago by previous owners and may feel somewhat 'dated' in its finishing but has been well-kept and is bright, clean, functional and quiet.
Elkader really is an amazing little town with lots to offer. We have a traditional mid-western family style restaurant, a sports bar, pizza parlor, Irish Pub, Algerian-American restaurant with specialty imported beers, Deb's Brewtopia, an award-winning local brewer as well as a coffee house and renowned local bakery. There is tons of antiquing and gift shopping to be had. And the grocery store downtown is the oldest family-run grocery in Iowa. At the top of town you will find the Opera House where you may be able to catch a performance from our local Opera House Players. Across the street is the public library which overlooks the Turkey river and the waterfall created by the old hydro-electric dam. There are several art galleries to visit. Founder's park at the south end of town is the launching point for canoe/kayak trips down to the Historic Motor Mill site. During the warm season there is an outfitters in town who can set you up for a float. There is a nice walking/biking trail that follows the river southward out of town. The Founder's park has children's play area as well as a dog park, soccer fields and a bandstand. It is the location of several events during the year including Sweet Corn Days, Music and Monarchs, and Art in the Park as well as summer Saturday farmer's market. If you are a white-water play boat kayaker there is an engineered wave for surfing and tricks right next to the park. The town recently completed the first season of public art murals to be continued and expanded each year. Elkader is the home of several nationally known authors and artists including Art Geisert, Don Harstad, and your host, Adam Jackson Pollock. I'm sure I have forgotten something here, but I will leave that for you to discover.

Two bedrooms upstairs with Queen beds, twin roll-away & full bath. Downstairs is a large living room, a parlor with draped French doors & Queen pull-out, full kitchen, full bath, laundry & dining area. It sleeps 7 easily.
The house is older, but beautifully kept. The bathrooms and kitchen are a bit dated in design, but clean & very functional. Just watch your head going into the bathroom upstairs...it was previously the children's playroom and added later once plumbing was introduced and they must have been shorter back then :-). There is a really large living room space with two decorative fireplaces and French doors, a good sized dining area and the kitchen is fully outfitted. There is off-street parking in the rear and you enter at the back door through the kitchen, as it should be. Next to the downstairs bathroom, we have a laundry room with washer/dryer. The kitchen has a gas range, microwave, fridge and dishwasher. The stairs that continue up from the second floor just go to the attic where the spirits reside. You can visit if you are polite and knock first. If you are coming for the school then note we are right across the street. If you are coming to be with family for a funeral, note we are one block from the funeral home. You can easily walk downtown, we are only 2 or 3 blocks away. It is very quiet in our neighborhood and you are surrounded by really kind and generous souls.

  • A nice spot in a quiet neighborhood in Elkader. Our kids enjoyed biking and scootering around town with a great location within a few blocks of stores, restaurants, parks and the river. Adam was a great host - very kind and responsive. The house was very clean and the beds comfortable. There is plenty of space as well. We would certainly stay again on future trips to the area.

Less than 1 mile from the Mississippi, this cozy, modern home is perfect for a weekend at the River! The area is known for boating, hunting, fishing, camping, Pete’s Hamburger stand, along with historical landmarks and numerous recreational activities. Visit the Effigy Mounds hiking trail or Pikes Peak State Park for scenic views of the Mississippi. Dive into the culture of the 2nd oldest city in WI by touring the Fort Crawford Museum or the Villa Louis. Endless adventures await!
Brand new hardwood floors flow throughout the kitchen and hallways with new, plush carpet in the living areas. Every space has been updated and boasts a very comfortable, homey feeling. We bought our 1970's home 2 1/2 years ago in its original condition. Since then, we have worked endless hours on updating and modernizing every square inch of the property. We’ve enjoyed many nights on the outdoor patio hosting friends, grilling out, and playing games, along with cooking s'mores over the fire. Guests have access to all of these amenities as well as a one car garage stall (provided with advanced notice.) If you’re spending the day on the river, take advantage of nearest boat landing less than 1 mile away! We love our home and hope you do too!
The neighborhood is extremely quiet and private as most neighbors are elderly, private and not overly active. Our home is centrally located between downtown, numerous restaurants, gas stations, and grocery stores. We are one block from a city park and five blocks from the public pool. We are only a short walk from nearby attractions like Prairie Fun Land, restaurants, shopping center and downtown bars.
  • Paige is a great host! Loved her place and all the little touches she had around her whole house! I really recommend guests stay at her place if they're going in the area!

  • Very cute space - it was comfortable and cozy! Our time at Jennifer’s Place was very relaxing, and we especially loved the two goats!

    Erin2019-11-10T00:00:00Z
  • The best sleep and the most comfortable place in Iowa.

    Quin2019-11-08T00:00:00Z
  • Jennifer's place truly is a charming studio apartment! It was very clean with soft towels and bedding. She is such a thoughtful host - there were snacks waiting for us, plus the weather turned very cold that day, and she had extra blankets and the heat ready for us. She was very responsive, and went out of her way to find out more about the Brush Creek Canyon preserve we planned to visit on our stay. Getting to see and feed Laverne and Shirley was a bonus. We - including our dog-child - felt very comfortable and welcomed - and we want to come back to stay!

    Renee2019-10-13T00:00:00Z
  • This is a lovely place to stay on a quiet street. The house is old style and charming with interesting furniture to compliment the style. The bed was super comfortable and the area was super clean. The hosts live across the street so if you needed something, they were right there; while you still had the place to yourself. Will stay here again since I have family in town.

    Tamra2019-10-04T00:00:00Z
  • This is a nice country apartment with a great bed and amenities. Snacks and drinks were provided but limited pots and pans made cooking difficult in the ample kitchen area.

    Stephen2019-09-30T00:00:00Z
  • Jennifer’s communication was awesome throughout our entire trip from beginning to end. Her goats are the cutest ever and such a treat. She and her entire family set up in their barn/recreation area for us to watch the Georgia Bulldogs play football because we are huge Georgia fans. We were there for family weekend in Decorah Iowa at Luther College; I was a little worried about the distance but the short drive was well worth it! We will definitely be back many more times as our son is only in his second year at Luther! We really appreciate everything they did for us. We ended up being later than we anticipated on Friday night and they turned on the air condition for us ahead of time and had everything at the perfect temperature for us to come in and go right to sleep. Great stay!!

    Karen2019-09-22T00:00:00Z
  • Jennifer and her husband were extremely friendly and welcoming! They make you feel right at home. We all enjoyed feeding the goats and chickens in the backyard. Would highly recommend this place!

  • The cottage is such a cute place with all your basic needs and then some! We traveled with our 15 month old and one of the rooms has a crib so there was no need for a pack n play. They offered a high chair as well. We really appreciated the little things too, such as plenty of extra linens and pillows, plus warm touches like Christmas decor (we were there over Thanksgiving weekend). We’d absolutely stay again!

  • This charming, warm, and homey house in a quaint town was easy to get into, with clear directions. She'd left me notes so I didn't have any questions. The bed was wonderfully comfortable, the decor gently whimsical.. Rebecca served me a delicious egg bake, fruit, and fancy coffee for breakfast. Most importantly, I had a flat tire while there and she knew just who to call to come change it. (Some of the "rescue" dispatchers I called didn't even know where this town was.) She was very kind and helpful. Would recommend her and her place without reservation!

The property is close to other activities as well. About 10 miles to the Volga River Recreational Area, 2 miles from Wadena where you can grab a bite to eat or take a drive and discover downtown Elkader. Andy is a great host and is very helpful when you have questions or need recommendations about the local area. We hope to return soon!

  • Andys A frame cabin overlooks his private pond that is actually well maintained and only getting better with each improvement Andy puts in place. The cabin is brand new with all amnesties needed for a weekend of disconnecting. The wrap around deck has a hammock, rocking chairs, picnic tables and a birds eye view of a little bit of Mother Nature. The fishing is great and there are kayaks to explore the water a little bit more. Overall.... I would recommend this space to others and I would rent again given the opportunity! Thanks again for the hospitality Andy!

  • A very clean and comfortable house. Wendy is a terrific host. Check-in was easy and Wendy was very responsive. There’s a railroad track close by, but it didn’t really bother us at all. Highly recommend this beautiful home in Prairie du Chien.

  • Very clean, easy check-in, exactly as described. Nice place for a fair price. Host was very welcoming!

  • Wendy greeted us and told us about the house, answered our questions and left a set of great suggestions on what to do in the area. The place is neat and clean with every thing you need. The bedrooms are upstairs while the bathroom is downstairs. A minor inconvenience for us. The stairs to the bedroom are steep. The neighborhood is quiet and safe. We really enjoyed our stay. I am sure you will also.

  • So much to do in Prairie du Chien and across the bridge in Iowa, and this home was a perfect location for us. You are so close to the historic downtown that you can walk - and everyone downtown was so nice and friendly. You will hear trains on occasion, but they didn't disturb us during sleeping hours. Wendy is more than willing to help out in any way. Enjoy!

    Debbie2016-10-16T00:00:00Z
  • Wendy was a great hostess! She met us at the home and gave us the details we needed for our stay. The home was very clean, very comfortable, and very quiet. We enjoyed our stay very much and would stay again if we get back to the area.

  • Wendy and her husband Charlie were both very welcoming of us into their home this weekend. We sat together and chatted for a while before they left for the weekend and it felt like being at home! We enjoyed being able to cook, have enough space to move around depending on if we wanted to read or watch a movie. The house is very cozy and well taken care of, a place full of love! We are so thankful for our time we got to spend sharing the space while we were on our vacation.

    Whitney 2016-09-25T00:00:00Z

  • The house was quite nice. Everything went smoothly, from the preparations via text to our stay. The location was very convenient and the house was comfortable. We had everything we needed. We only used one of the two upstairs bedrooms. The house is near railroad tracks, and you can hear the trains as they pass, but it didn't bother us. We enjoyed a nightcap on the back patio and a cup of morning coffee on the front porch. Overall a good experience.

This historic German community is nestled in the heart of the Upper Mississippi River National Fish and Wildlife Refuge, next to stately US Army Corp of Engineer Lock and Dam Number 10 and numerous local, state and private natural resource areas, Guttenberg is a shining example of an Iowa community that embraces its past, welcomes its future and recognizes its potential.

  • Lisa’s space is set on one of the best views of the Mississippi you can imagine. Beside the gorgeous landscape she has set up a cozy escape with plenty of space to either roam outside or have a group enjoy a game of pool. It is clean, comfy and there is a bounty of books, snacks and quiet spots to relax. We plan on returning in the summer.

Outdoor electrical outlet for plugging in your boat. Three season porch with fire place for use in fall and winter.
Property is just outside the city limits of Prairie du Chien.
  • Anne's place has a warm atmosphere, it's clean and convenient to get too. The rooms are a good size and the bunk beds are great for a family!

  • Great place to get away for a few days and see the fall colors along the Mississippi! Rochelle and her husband, Mark, met us when we arrived and showed us around everything inside and out, very hospitable and enjoyable to talk with. The house was perfect for our stay, had everything we needed, had a fire in the fireplace in the 3 season room one night, made for a cozy evening. The beds were super comfortable and we slept great and woke up fully rested. Spent some time in and around PrairieDuChien, did a little hiking at Effigy Mounds State Park across the river in Iowa. Cooked a few meals while we were there and had everything we needed. The weather, unfortunately, didn't cooperate, but still had a great time!!

    Liz2019-10-23T00:00:00Z
  • We had an excellent stay at Ann’s Place. The hosts were welcoming, the house was inviting, and the area is beautiful. The house is clean and spacious, lots of room to spread out, even though there was just two of us. It’s a great place to come back to after a day of sight seeing. There is also a very nice fire pit area, as well as a big yard. It’s all very private and quiet. There are apparently two resident eagles on the back property, but unfortunately I only spotted them briefly on our last morning there. Lots of other birds to see and listen to though. :) The area itself is very relaxing and welcoming, lots of small communities and parks to explore. We especially enjoyed Effigy Mounds Park, lots of great hiking and sight seeing opportunities. I would not hesitate to recommend Ann’s Place to anyone looking for a place to stay in the area. Thank you!

    Christy2019-10-05T00:00:00Z
  • Great accommodations for a family to spread out and have space to themselves while still being "cozy" in the living areas. We enjoyed the beautiful new fire pit area, but you need to bring your own wood. The last weekend of September is the opening of Duck Hunting Season...so be prepared for the sound of guns.

  • Hidden Hallow exceeded or expectations. The pictures don't do this place justice. From the rolling bluffs and the winding creek through the property to the beautiful interior decor, it was such a serene and peaceful escape. The kitchen and bathrooms were stocked with everything you would ever need and there was enough room for a large family and a pup to sprawl out and enjoy time together. It was so nice to end our evenings with a roaring fire and to wake up to hundreds of beautiful birds flitting about the property. The bonus cabin/room out back was equally as beautiful. It was hard to regulate the temperature in that small space, relying on the wood burning stove and the space heaters, but otherwise was a neat experience. Gorgeous hiking opportunities at parks nearby and a charming little town to boot. Would highly recommend to anyone looking for a getaway in the driftless.

    Gina2019-12-24T00:00:00Z
  • This was our first stay at Hidden Hollow and definitely won't be our last! It was our family Thanksgiving getaway, and I mean "getaway". We love how private and secluded the place is, so very tranquil. We didn't leave the property the whole time we were there. You can spend a whole day just exploring the land and enjoying nature. Inside the farmhouse is just as relaxing. We had a fire every night and enjoyed reading and playing games together. Hidden Hollow is a hidden "gem" and we would recommend it to anyone looking to get away from the daily grind and just relax.

    John2019-11-30T00:00:00Z
  • This is by far the most incredible airbnb I have ever had the pleasure to spend time in. We picked this place because it allowed us to bring out puppy. We could not have been happier. Pam gave very detailed and helpful directions for finding the home and getting checked in which made it a breeze. The small touches are what makes this home so amazing. From the welcome basket, to the luxurious bathtub experience, the fully stocked spice cabinet, the immense amount of firewood and starting supplies for the fireplace, the orange puppy bandana for hiking. We absolutely loved exploring all of the hiking trails. The view from blueberry hill at sunrise was incredible! We can't wait to come back!!!

    Bridget2019-11-24T00:00:00Z
  • You will not find a better place to spend a relaxing time than Hidden Hollow. If you want activity and constant things to do, maybe not. But if you are looking for solitude, peaceful and relaxation. This is the place to go

    Ted2019-11-11T00:00:00Z
  • What a wonderful escape from our complicated lives. This is a perfect getaway for anyone wanting to become a part of nature and just relax. We enjoyed the trails through the surrounding forest and the plethora of wildlife. But the inside of the house was just as relaxing as the outside. It was a perfect space for our family to unwind and spend quiet time together.

    Matt2019-10-27T00:00:00Z
  • Staying had Hidden Hollow was extremely easy. Pam was quick to respond to questions, and had easy to follow instructions. The property is beautiful and well kept. My mom and I enjoyed the birds and scenery immensely. It truly felt like this was getaway we were looking for.

    Brenda2019-10-09T00:00:00Z
  • It’s a beautiful location and house and cabin. And Pam is a wonderful host!

    Karen2019-09-22T00:00:00Z
  • Dear potential guests and repeat guests. Just book it. You won't be sorry. You will get there and know you made the right decision. When you leave, you will leave with undeniable clarity just by breathing the air of Hidden Hollow. It's magical. I promise. While you are there, you will find nature (as it was meant to be) with wonderful hiking opportunities all around. The history of this house is both interesting and dynamically creative (at the least) as the craftsmanship and quality of this renovation/journey is nothing short of pure determination in order to get what is now Hidden Hollow. Wow!! Pam, your vision is appreciated! The tub inside is a paradise in it-self ~ please don't miss it. Provided for you is oil, foaming bath options and candlelight. So nice!! The house is so comfortable and I love the blue chairs for bird watching or reading a book. Pam also provides many good reads. So nice!! The kitchen is not missing a thing, so pull out the popcorn popper and enjoy!! We highly recommend Hidden Hollow to anyone and everyone!! Cant wait to go back!! :)

  • Tim is a very nice host. He was there to greet us as soon as we pulled in the parking spot in front of the house. He gave us suggestions of nearby points of interest before we arrived, and was prompt in answering our questions after we checked in. He came quickly when we needed help in the house. He is wonderful. The house itself is old, but comfortable. There are full kitchen and laundry facilities - new pots and pans too. We came on a very hot day in summer. Because each room has an air conditioner, we actually felt very comfortable inside. The air conditioners were a bit loud but with that in the background, it did put me to sleep much easier at night and did make the train sound not as disturbing as I expected. Overall a good experience. We enjoyed out stay here.

  • This is a great space, super comfortable, with every amenity and an awesome location. We wanted a quiet place but walkable for coffee or a meal, and this was perfectly located for that. Not to mention the great patio and view of the Mississippi. Great day trip possibilities for hiking and antiquing.

    Gina2019-12-08T00:00:00Z
  • The Dam Dwellings are in a notable, beautiful, historic building in Guttenberg, with the Penthouse having one of the best views in town. It is a perfect location and special spot. My son and I took my 90 year old mother to visit her hometown for Thanksgiving. She had grown up a few blocks away in the 1940's, and loved seeing all the changes to Guttenberg, and her beloved Mississippi. The Dwellings were a perfect launching pad - it is probably breathtaking in the summer with the balcony, and we would love to return then. We stayed in both the studio and penthouse, and it was perfect. The kitchen, dining room and view were amazing for a Thanksgiving weekend. Margaret was very helpful and attentive, providing us tips on places to visit and eat in town. There are a lot of stairs, and the second bed in the penthouse is not private, but we loved the layout, the well-stocked kitchen, and the special place and time we felt being there. Thank you Dave and Margarte for offering up this great home.

  • My husband and I were totally awed when we entered the loft. We just wandered around at first marveling at our good fortune! The pictures do not do it justice, though the library is just as inviting and cozy as the photo suggests. The bi-level space is SO nicely laid out, attractively furnished, well equipped with a great view of the river and lock #10. Dave bent over backwards to make our stay enjoyable, and it was. We were sad to leave after a week. I really want to come back next year. Thanks Dave and Margie for a memorable stay!

  • Clean, adorable room with lots of thoughtful touches. Great bookstore right down the street. And it's a super quick trip to Pikes Peak, Wyalusing State Park, Effigy Mound Park, and the Casino Queen.
