The basement has a large private living area, bedroom, bathroom and kitchen area. Feel free to stay a few days and enjoy a nice wilderness getaway only 20 minutes from downtown and right on the main road. You can get downtown by just going straight right out the driveway! The entrance to the basement is shared through the main entrance to the house. Great place for families with young children, there are lots if toy available, plus the yard is set all set up.
The property is situated on 70 acres of the Canadian Shield. It has a great mix of some open fields, dense bush, small hills and mountains and some private wetlands. I have a small amount of private walking trails and lookouts (Slowly expanding), a small wetland with a private canoe and some open fields with viewing areas. I have not actively hunted on the property and there is a host of wildlife with regular appearances from moose, dear, black bears, turtles, beavers and many others. It’s a great place so just sit around and enjoy nature in a private setting, we have amazing star gazing. In the winter it's great for snowshoeing (I have lots of extras you can borrow), or enjoy the private skating rink. Feel free to have a small bon fire at designated locations around the property. The property can be used for private camping for small groups and I do have facilities to accommodate water hookups, 120V service and sewage washout for RVs and trailers. I like to think I have a small hobby farm, but currently it’s only an abandoned chicken coop, very large garden and small fruit orchard and berry patch. At some times of the year I do operate a small business selling hardy fruit tree. (Lewis Hardy Fruit Trees) I do certainly hope to continue to expand in the future. I can offer longer term accommodations and work-shares if your interested it helping with the trees and gardens or helping build some trails and infrastructure on the property. I have shared custody of 3 small children, so the is only available when they are not here. If your a family that prefers them being around and wish to spend a weekend or some time together please reach out and I can make the property available. Also if anyone is interested in a longer rental or work-share reach out as well and after some additional screening I'm sure we can work something out.
We are in a beautiful rural area just outside the city and easy to navigate as being directly on the main route. We are extremely close to the Walden hiking, ski and mountain biking trails that are quite popular within the city. If you need to get gas an some supplies, Lively is a 5 minute drive which has a full grocery store, hardware store, 2 gas stations, local eatery, pizza joints, pharmacy, gift shop a gluten free bakery.
  • Phil was very helpful with directions, very good host, easy to talk with and super kind. Lots of space, and a really comfy couch!

    Zac2019-10-16T00:00:00Z
  • House is very good, Phil is friendly guy. Maybe not comfortable for vegans because of animals taxidermy. For me not a problem at all. Recommend.

    Sergey2019-09-26T00:00:00Z
  • Phil's place was amazing :) Wish we had more time to explore the property. The little bit that I did get to see was great, it's like a quiet retreat. The accommodations were great, the room is big and the bed is comfortable. It's great to have a private bathroom and entire basement area. The kitchen had everything we needed and we were even lucky enough to enjoy a fresh apple from Phil's trees.

    Stephanie2019-09-24T00:00:00Z
  • I had a great time staying at Phils place! The shared entrance wasn’t a problem at all, just a short walk through the kitchen and then the whole basement was mine to enjoy. I particularly loved the fireplace to cozy up to on a cool damp day and the backyard is definitely worthy of a walk! I had the pleasure of a chat with Phil who is a real stand up guy and more than accommodating to anything I needed. Thanks Phil!

    Cora2019-09-23T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely country place, the bedroom and bathroom are private but the rest of the space is shared with the host and family. It worked great for a night on my way back home.

    Chris2019-09-17T00:00:00Z
  • Our stay at Phil's space was such a lovely experience, from the time we booked until after our departure. Check-in was super easy, and Phil was gracious enough to let us in early, after our long drive. The space is really cute, and breakfast was such a nice touch—we could have bread/bagels/oatmeal/tea/coffee/etc. (and delicious homemade jam!). The property itself is great for getting away and there is lots of room to explore the outdoors. Phil is a great host, was prompt with responses to any questions we had, and so welcoming to his space! Would definitely stay at this space again and highly recommend Phil as a host.

    Kaitlyn2019-09-12T00:00:00Z
  • Will definitely be returning! Phil and his family were absolutely amazing, welcoming and accommodating. The property was incredible for our young children and was a relaxing, serene environment. Thank you so much Phil for a great weekend getaway. Until next time!

  • Cosy bunkie on the water. Short drive to Manitoulin Island and very close to a lot of amazing hiking trails! Would definitely recommend to anyone looking to explore the area.

    Willow2019-11-24T00:00:00Z
  • This is a great spot to relax. The bunkie has no electricity or running water, but it is cozy and neat. There is a porto-potty that is very clean a few steps away. The lake is spectacular, and there are many hikes and paddles around to explore and enjoy. It was nice to have a comfortable bed, and a roof over our heads after our day's adventures!

    Deborah2019-09-18T00:00:00Z
  • Great hosts! A great no frills escape on a beautiful quiet lake with great fishing!

    Katie2019-08-29T00:00:00Z

    Cora2019-08-20T00:00:00Z
  • We had a blast! We rode around in the canoe on the prettiest lake, all to ourselves. They have a great party deck where we swam and lounged with our books. The cabin was super cozy and I thought the bed was extremely comfortable. Communication was clear and very nice.

    Kevin2019-07-25T00:00:00Z
  • Al & Melinda were very welcoming of their personal retreat, and absolutely great hostesses. They truly have a unique location, one that I’m pleased to have ticketed off the bucket list and appreciative that they share this gem! The BI bunkie was the perfect little escape to unwind. Floating on my swan in the lake was a highlight! Considering we only live 15 minutes away I didn’t want to leave! Safe to say we will be back! Miigwetch!

    Jessica2019-07-14T00:00:00Z
  • We came just for a quick weekend and this place absolutely stole our hearts! The view is compared to none. Al and Melinda are very helpful with suggestions and very kind people! We definitely recommend this place if you want to escape!

  • We spent 3 nights in Al and Melinda's place. So beautiful. We did canoeing, swim in the lake, star gazing. We did enjoy our stay. Thank you 💕

  • Excellent host and super large apartment with full kitchen.

    Dufferin2019-10-14T00:00:00Z
  • Nice to have a full kitchen at our disposal. Very close to town, and she had good recommendations. Great price.

    Ann2019-10-10T00:00:00Z
  • We arrived at Barbara's with very short notice to a clean, bright and open apartment. Her kitchen is well stocked with pots, pans, cutlery, crockery, appliances, French Press, etc. The mattresses are heavenly and we had a wonderfully restful night. Barbara responds very quickly to calls and texts. Upon our invitation, she met us and brought a large, very welcome, French Press of coffee the next morning and chatted with us. She called the local fisherman to find out if he had a fresh catch that morning and she drove us down to his house. We were delighted to buy fresh local trout and white fish from Dave. She kindly let us extend our departure so that we could visit the Bridal Veil falls. Barbara made us feel so loved and comfortable.

Welcome to Manitoulin Permaculture! We are an eclectic community of infectiously warm and welcoming humans that are exploring ways of living that nurture each other and the land we share. We recently dedicated a private, lakeside Airstream for guests. A full bed with linens and bedding is provided for your stay (couch available also). There are shared composting toilets a short walk from the Airstream. If you are inclined, you are welcome to join us for communal dinners Monday to Saturday.
There are volunteers from around the globe coming and going from our little corner of paradise. If you have any farm proclivities and want to help (no expectation) pull weeds, collect eggs, harvest veggies or pitch in with dinner prep, you are certainly welcome to. The plusses: - the space is beautiful and you'll have a wide open view of the sunsets every night right from your door - the frogs will sing you to sleep The minuses: - the Airstream is close to the community kitchen which serves as the main meeting point for our community during dinners. - there is power but no water You can choose your level of interaction with the others here. There is a considerable amount of wildlife on the property or passing through. You may find yourself sharing a pathway with a skunk or porcupine, encounter snakes, frogs, turtles, and toads, with many birds coming and going.
  • The locale could not have been more perfect. The energy surrounding the entire property is amazing. We could not have felt more welcomed. It was a shame that our visit was so late in the year. It would have been nice to get out in the canoe, but the weather wasn't too cooperative...the sauna more than made up for it though! Thanks Justin

    Christopher2019-09-27T00:00:00Z
  • Great host, great property! If you’re lucky you might even eat some great food and learn something about permaculture! 10/10

    Michael2019-09-06T00:00:00Z
  • Staying in the airstream was great. It has everything you need with the Kitchen and solar shower close by. The crew at the farm was very friendly and inviting, with lots of ideas about what to do on the island. We had a great time would stay there again for sure.

    Ian2019-09-02T00:00:00Z
  • This is a fascinating and lively place to stay. The formal assessment criteria don't really apply to somewhere that has comfortable tents or a vintage Airstream for sleeping, composting toilets and a solar shower, and a welcome to join in a communal meal in the evening and a make-your-own breakfast in the morning. We loved it and would love the chance to go again. We learned a bit more about permaculture and the ups and downs of seeking truly sustainable alternatives for growing your own food. Justin was welcoming, as was the very warm and informative Corine .

    Sue2019-08-22T00:00:00Z
  • A community of great caring people. Open for invites, great meals, and good conversation. A 12 out of 10!

    Sheena2019-08-18T00:00:00Z
  • Cool little old camper! Beautiful views, fun things to do onsite, and good vibes from all the people. Wish we could have stayed longer!

    Jacq2019-08-13T00:00:00Z
  • This spot is absolute magic. Late night sauna after watching the incredible sunset at our feet from the Airstream through cat tails and wildflowers from the marsh, after a delicious communal dinner with interesting conversation that we were openly encouraged to join, which followed a visit to Bridal Veil Falls that we took with the community. Good vibes alll over the place :) The stay here was the highlight of our Manitoulin experience! Welcomed by great people, gardens, chickens, froggies, hammocks and a swing... Life is most excellent :)

    Shayla2019-08-12T00:00:00Z
  • Justin’s place was super cool. The view from the airstream is totally unmatchable. It was so nice being able to fall asleep with the sound of the grass and frogs. The airstream itself is actually quite spacious while being super cozy. The restrooms are very nice and updated. Everyone we interacted with while staying was a joy to talk to. Wished we could have stayed longer!

  • Very comfortable trailer. Everything we needed. Beautiful views.

    Judy2019-10-24T00:00:00Z
  • Pamela’s Sweet Water Oasis was very comfy and cozy! Pamela was a fabulous host who was extremely accommodating of our late arrival and was super fast at responding to messages/questions. The trailer has a spectacular view down the mountain and is in the perfect location for heading out to all the different sites and activities around the island! Unfortunately it rained a lot while we were there, so we didn’t get a chance to use the bonfire pit, but it was set-up, ready to go, and looked like it would have been perfect! We had a wonderful time!

  • This location is very beautiful! It is a great place to be in nature. The fire pit and basil water were excellent touches!

  • My wife and I were travelling in the area and enjoyed a peaceful evening staying at Pamela's place. Easily accessible to the Little Current area for food and just down the road from the Cup and saucer hiking trail. The place is exactly as advertised and Pamela was very responsive to my questions.

    Uriah2019-09-29T00:00:00Z

  • Sonny and Pamela were amazing hosts! The trailer was spotless and smelt very refreshing! The fresh basil water was a very refreshing touch! Fire wood was cut and stocked ready to have a fire. The view at night was absolutely breathe taking! There in short distance of all the major trails like the cup and saucer, bridal veil falls. Only 45 min from providence bay which was absolutely beautiful! We will definitely be returning! Thank you so much Pamela and Sonny for your great hospitality!

My husband and I renovated this unique space in the spring & summer of 2019 in the hopes that guests who stay with us will "disconnect to reconnect". Whether you arrive on Manitoulin via our beautiful, historic swing bridge or as a passenger aboard the ChiCheemaun ferry, once you are on the Island, time really does slow down and it is our hope that you will too.
NEW this season!! As soon as the weather permits in the spring, we plan on building a unique outdoor propane shower made out of aromatic Manitoulin cedar for guests to enjoy. This outdoor shower will be situated right next to our 'Tiny Home' and will be exclusively for guests staying in our 'Tiny Home'. To add to our guests' enjoyment, we have two kayaks, two paddles and a variety of lifejackets that guests are welcome to make use of. Although we encourage our guests to be 'unplugged' during their stay, if you do at some point need to send an email, or update your social media profile (so you can let your friends know just how much fun you're having on Manitoulin!) you will receive a bit of a WIFI signal at the trailer, and if you need a stronger signal, simply stroll a few feet towards our home, plunk yourself down in one of our Adirondack chairs and access our unlimited Wi-Fi (username and password provided upon arrival).
Quiet, peaceful and extremely private, our property has a beautiful west facing view, perfect for watching the sun go down over Lake Huron. https://www.hikebiketravel.com/7-reasons-to-visit-manitoulin-island-this-summer/ https://www.facebook.com/watch/?v=888387854608250 https://matadornetwork.com/videos/indigenous-voices-manitoulin-island-canada/?fbclid=IwAR3pa9pQjB8uVLjQZg8KasWY-QtdDekU3OaQs0PhOMdHvpw4smGF33URlCI https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Selb5dK5DY
  • The tiny house is a little slice of perfection! For my husband and I on our anniversary, it was the perfect size and added a lovely cosiness to our getaway experience. We loved having our coffee on the little porch looking directly at the lake. Evenings, we enjoyed BBQ dinner by the campfire and one of the the most beautiful sunsets we’ve ever seen. When we weren’t looking at the fire and lake, we gazed at stars. The tiny house had all we needed to cook and relax. The location was easy to get to from the ferry, and made leaving by the bridge even easier. I really can’t say enough great things. Would recommend it to any single or couple traveling to Manitoulin.

The Worthington House is centrally located in the heart of Little Current. A two minute stroll to the waterfront, marina, grocery store, and the downtown shops. Manitoulin Island is reknown for it's beautiful scenery, boat accessibility and waterways as well as the friendly locals. Be sure to look at all of the activities available when you are here.
The Worthington House is a charming 1920's Victorian that has been updated to accommodate all of life's necessities. I Currently it is a four bedroom bnb with a shared bath but with future plans to incorporate two additional baths.

  • I was running a summer institute on Manitoulin Island, and one of my bookings fell through, so I needed a place at the last minute. Terri and Andrew were exceptionally helpful, responded quickly to our plea, and made my participant (their guest) feel very welcome and special. I got really lucky in booking with them.

    Henri Julien2019-09-08T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed on the Whitefish River First Nation - in the home once lived in by a respected Aboriginal elder, Lillian.   Lillian’s home was a great comfort for us. It was warm on the cold nights and air conditioned when we needed it during the day.   It was so convenient for us to prepare meals rather than drive 20 minutes into town restaurants. The fully equipped kitchen enabled our 15 year old member to cook a pot of three sisters soup. This is a traditional Aboriginal soup that includes beans, squash, and corn.   My friend had a lifelong dream to see and hear loons. There are no loons in Taiwan where she and her son live. Hostess Cora researched and told us about Widgawa Lodge, about 15 minutes drive away. From them we rented a canoe. We were able to launch our canoe less than 500 metres from the home.   My friend fulfilled her dream during our time at Lillian’s home. We were so pleased to experience 7 loons within 2.5 hours of first going out on the water. Two of those loons came to within 50 feet of our canoe.   We hired Aboriginal guides through the Great Spirit Circle Trail. Someone at the Whitefish Band office told us about Great Spirit when we asked about local Aboriginal tourism. It was an authentic experience for us to hear firsthand from local guides the important messages they wanted us to learn. And it was important for them to hear too how some of the same issues are relevant for Aboriginal people in other countries like Taiwan.   We met several neighbourhood youth who told us about good things happening for them. One spoke of heading off to Russia to play minor hockey and a young woman was learning about electrical contracting at a mobile training facility on the Reserve.

Wake up to the smell of your freshly ground coffee brewing, and sounds of loons on the bay out front of your cottage as you pull up a seat on a rustic cottage bench. This hidden gem is nestled near the Ontario La Cloche Mountains in Rainbow Country. We offer 12, 3 bedroom cottages on a resort. Please view our cottage map on our website by searching Forbes Holiday Resort. We look forward to being your hosts!
  • We had a very nice stay at Wanda's cottage. Her and her husband were very friendly and easily available. They provided lots of great recommendations for local hiking routes and attractions. The cottage was clean, very homey and well supplied with dishes and utensils. The location is quiet with easy access to the docks. Check in was very easy. Would definitely recommend for a fishing trip or stay to explore Manitoulin island!

  • This is a great place to stay when on Manitoulin Island. Bobbi is a wonderful host.

    Eileen2020-02-11T00:00:00Z
  • We spent four nights in this spotless, spacious and yet cozy home. Perfect location just outside of Little Current, so it was just a quick jaunt into town for groceries, shopping or eating out. Bobbi’s home is nestled behind a row of tall cedar trees on a quiet road close to the highway. The beds were all super comfortable, the kitchen was very well equipped and Netflix was available for downtime on the comfy sectional couch. Bobbi was always available and an informative instruction booklet with local amenities and house rules was very handy. Checking in and out was a breeze. I would definitely return.

  • Beautiful house in a beautiful place! Very hospitable welcome by Mackenzie who was lighting the fire in the big fireplace at that time. It soon became apparent that Mackenzie wanted us to feel like her home was ours. And we have experienced that! There are 2 bedrooms. In the other bedroom new people came to stay after the first night. Because the house is large and has a friendly atmosphere, it seemed a bit like a family home. Highly recommended, and exceptional!

This luxury loft apartment is nestled right in the heart of downtown Little Current. Overlooking the North Channel waterway, with a great view of the swing bridge, right across from the Anchor Inn restaurant and 5 minutes from the grocery store, this apartment boasts one of the best locations and views on Manitoulin Island.
This bright and spacious apartment is on the main dock of the Port of Little Current. Watch boats and cruise ships pass through and dock right outside the door. Guests that wish to bring their own boat will find dockage for it in the marina right outside the door! In the winter, this is one of the few places around you can still look out and see open water! Located in a historic century old commercial building, the residential unit is located up a flight of stairs which makes for extraordinary views of the main wharf, swing bridge and North Channel from the outdoor deck area. The apartment has been mostly renovated throughout and boasts oak flooring and cathedral ceilings in the main living areas, and new carpet in the bedrooms. The single large bathroom is admittedly dated (the last renovation project set for this winter) with an antique claw foot tub fitted with shower head and curtains. The main entry staircase is set for renovation next winter also.

  • A beautiful apartment in a nice and cozy location. A beautiful view of the harbor and the atmosphere of Little Current at the back. The house is nicely furnished, the beds sleep wonderfully, lots of towels are provided which was important to us because we were on the plane to Canada and did not have that with us. We have not been disturbed by noise from the village. We had a wonderful time at Little Current.

    Dineke2019-09-16T00:00:00Z
  • 1 Water Street is a beautiful two story loft-style apartment that accommodates 5 (or more) individuals very well. Chris is a great host who respects privacy and is always very close by if any concerns or questions arise. Our stay itself was fantastic. The apartment has beautiful natural light and all amenities were functional and the space as a whole was very well taken care of. The main living/dining room area includes a well stocked kitchen and comfortable lounging areas with a spacious deck that overlooks the waterfront property. This was a great view; especially in the morning as the sun rose and boats were passing by. The draw bridge in Little Current is very visible and a nice scenic touch. The living room also includes a large television with Netflix and other channels if needed. The lighting throughout the apartment is all functional and illuminates the various rooms well. All bedrooms were nicely furnished and the beds were comfortable. The elevated loft bedroom was open with limited privacy. The two other bedrooms down the main hallway were private and very spacious. Sheets and pillow cases were clean with no evidence of stains or dirt. The apartment as a whole was very clean and up to our standards. The bathroom has been modernized to an extent with a nice vanity/faucet/toilet. The tub/shower and flooring is dated, but very well taken care of and functions as required. My only issue (and it is not Chris’ fault) is the excessive noise. This apartment is located on the strip or downtown area of Little Current. Our group attended a wedding on a weekend and because of this, the bars were open and booming. Bikers also frequent this area and consistently revved their engines and spun their tires right outside of the location at various hours of the night 2300-0200 along with loud individuals yelling and doing other drunkenly things. Again, this is not a fault or reflection of the owner or the location; I understand people want to enjoy themselves but just a heads up for anyone who is staying during a weekend. This may be something you will have to deal with. The apartment itself is not very well sound-proofed so most of this noise enters the bedrooms and main living room fully. Bring earplugs! Overall, this was an excellent experience and well above our expectations. If required, I would gladly stay at this location again. Thanks a lot for the great time, Chris!

  • My family and I had a great stay at this cabin. It exceeded all our expectations and more! It has a great view from the common area, over looking the lake and is private We would definitely stay here again!

  • The house is so spacious, plenty of space for a large family or professionals working in the area. Comfy beds, everything you need in the kitchen, clean large bathrooms. That autumn colours view out the living room = beyond compare! Perfect Northern Ontario accommodation for us - thanks so much, Thomas!

    Laurie2019-10-10T00:00:00Z
  • Thomas cottage far exceeded my expectations of what a northern Ontario cottage should be. Great accommodations for larger groups. Newly built and modern. Fantastic!

    Danny2019-09-18T00:00:00Z
  • Fantastic cottage on the lake. I would love to stay here again.

    Josh2019-08-24T00:00:00Z
  • The most beautiful house we've ever rented, by far. Absolutely stunning! Thomas was also very responsive to our needs 🙂

    Chris2019-08-11T00:00:00Z
  • Thomas' cottage was wonderful. The living room with the large windows was my favourite part. Check in was easy and Thomas was always quick to respond. Comfy beds and cooking basics were provided and the place was spotless. I would absolutely come back here. There is quite a bit of a hill to get down to the water so I wouldn't advise anyone with accessibility restrictions stay here but if not it's a quick jaunt to the canoes and kayaks. 10/10 place from me!

    Katie2019-07-27T00:00:00Z
  • Great home! Very spacious, great sunsets, fully equipped kitchen and lots of space for children to play! Close to shopping and groceries. Thomas was helpful and gracious!

  • Hidden jam in Manitoulin Island. Perfect for a group of 12 people. It was quite windy and the paddle boat was broken that’s why we couldn’t enjoy in the private beach. However, we had a pleasant stay in Betty’s place. Nearby amenities, access to beach, fishing docks, Bridal Veil Falls, hiking and walking trails are great for family vacation. Betty responded to my all emails and queries promptly. We appreciate her quick email response system.

Stunning condo in Little Current. Completely renovated and brand spanking new. High end linens and even higher ceilings! Cool art and comfy spaces for chillin' with amazing views, and LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION! 5 minute walk from downtown, across the street from Spider Bay Marina and a gorgeous waterfront park with tons of amenities. Come for a getaway and stay for the sunsets!
  • Merediths place was clean, homey, in a great location, equipped with all the essentials, and with beautiful views! It was easy to check in and the neighbourhood is quiet and nice. She provided us with local tips for the area and was quick to reply. I can’t wait to come back!

    Brooke2019-08-11T00:00:00Z
  • A wonderful unit located in a beautiful and convenient location. I recently stayed with a large group of adults and children and the unit was comfortable for all. I would not hesitate to book this unit the next time I visit Manitoulin.

    Lisa2019-08-08T00:00:00Z
  • Meredith’s place is perfect for a stay in Little Current. The place was quiet, clean and equipped with everything you need. Great location, right across from the water and only a 5 minute walk to downtown. Highly recommend the Peach Pit!

    Jennifer2019-08-02T00:00:00Z
  • A stylish oasis just minutes from Little Current with a water view! We enjoyed wine and cheese on the patio, the spacious and super comfortable beds. The condo was spotless, the wifi was fast and we had everything we could need at our finger tips. A++

    Ashley2019-07-24T00:00:00Z
  • The house is very conveniently located close to all the amenities and yet providing privacy along with nice views. The house is modern with stylish decor and well equipped for a comfortable stay.

    Bindu2019-07-20T00:00:00Z
  • Where do I begin? The Peach Pit was amazing in every way. The place is open, uncluttered and spotless. The beds were very comfy and the bedding was decadent. The lower patio was great for sitting in the rocking chairs and having morning coffee. The upper deck was convenient for bbqing and dining at the large table with a great view of all the activity on the water. We walked to the park across the street and my nephew used the skate park as well as the beach. Downtown was about a 5 minute walk and had so many neat little shops and restaurants. Meredith was a great host providing some basics such as coffee, sugar, olive oil and a kitchen stocked with all the platters, dishes and cookware to make entertaining a breeze. Very hard to find accommodations on the island so this place will be my "go to" every time I visit.

Welcome to Manitoulin Permaculture! We are an eclectic community of infectiously warm and welcoming humans that are exploring ways of living that nurture each other and the land we share. We recently created a private, lakeside "glamping" space for guests. A queen bed with linens and bedding is provided for your stay. There are shared composting toilets a short walk from the tent.
The plusses: - the space is beautiful and you'll have a wide open view of the gardens and the western tree lined sunset every night right from your door - the frogs will sing you to sleep The minuses: - the tent is close to the community kitchen which serves as the main meeting point for our community during dinners. You can choose your level of interaction with the others here. There is a considerable amount of wildlife on the property or passing through. You may find yourself sharing a pathway with a skunk or porcupine, encounter snakes, frogs, turtles, and toads, with many birds coming and going.
  • Thank you for the warm welcome. I had an amazing time, watching stars, sharing communal dinner and listening to the guitar. Loved it!

    Anna2019-09-02T00:00:00Z
  • Justin, his mom, and crew were great hosts. The property is very unique with a lot of interesting projects happening in the area od sustainability. The location was perfect for exploring Manitoulin Island, the bed was comfy, and evrything was top notch. Highly recommended!

    Rob2019-08-27T00:00:00Z
  • This permaculture community is a real gem for anyone yearning a simple yet connected lifestyle. I especially am grateful that the hosts walk the walk consistently - there was free locally grown dinner with mostly certified organic ingredients. Inspiring!

    Kristine2019-08-25T00:00:00Z
  • Justin’s space is truly one of a kind and pictures just don’t do this property justice. The community of individuals living and visiting at Manitoulin Permaculture were instantly welcoming to my girlfriend and I. They offered us dinner when we arrived and greeted us in the morning with breakfast. The tent itself was a very spacious and comfortable environment. I could say so many good things about Justin’s property... he has really thought of everything from a sauna to the outdoor kitchen, this place has it all. The only negative thing I would have to say is that we only spent one night here and didn’t feel as though we had time to experience everything Manitoulin Permaculture had to offer - we would definitely love to return next summer!

    Kathleen2019-08-24T00:00:00Z
  • A wonderful community of very kind and generous people. Our stay with them was very interesting and enjoyable. The permaculture gardens are out standing and Justin’s creativity is reflected throughout the entire property. We would stay there again in a heart beat! Isaac & Anita

  • We arrived late at night everything was dark outside and we found our tent. In the morning we woke up in the middle of a “playground”. We loved the atmosphere and would’ve loved to stay longer!

    Anne2019-08-21T00:00:00Z
  • Great experience with a great community

    Shaye2019-08-12T00:00:00Z
  • Justin's place is fantastic for those looking for great hospitality, friendly people all around a unique stay. The accommodation, invites to dinner, views, garden and nearby hikes exceeded our expectations. Glamping at its best!

Nestled in a quiet area just off McGregor Bay. Rainbow Lodge provides seasonal high quality accommodations and tranquillity for tourists and business customers alike. The region in and around the cabin offers breath taking scenery, provides some of the best fresh water boating in the world and offers significant historical, cultural experiences and all that Rainbow Country has to offer.
  • Beautiful place.

  • If you need a beautiful place to escape, where you can sip a hot cup of coffee on the front porch while taking in a beautiful view by the water this is the place! Absolutely beautiful spot. Amazing hospitality and a great deal for what you get! I couldn't get enough of this place I didn't want to leave not to mention everything Manatoulin area has to offer. I'm so amazed the scenery! 100% recommend this place!!! I'll be back!

  • A very clean, comfortable and well-appointed cabin. The host is fantastic at communication and made our stay stress-free. This cabin is part of Rainbow Lodge (large lodge & 2 cabins) but is located in a way that gives each facility its own space. A peaceful place to relax and unwind.

  • What a lovely experience! The entire time I felt like I was at a spa between the yoga space and the sauna. Everyone on the property was so friendly and inviting and the space was cozy and clean. Thank you, I can’t wait to return!

  • Such a lovely place! The large tent was dry, airy, and comfortable. Beautiful views and gardens. Would recommend!

  • I absolutely fell in love with my stay here. I wanted to book the Airstream but it was already taken, so I stayed in the Permatculture Tent. I was prepared for many critters, however there were no mosquitoes and only a few tiny friends that never bothered me. It was like upscale glamping that I could have never brought with me on my motorcycle. The communal meal was fabulous and such a sweet touch. Lovely, lovely, lovely!

    Michelle2019-08-16T00:00:00Z
  • As a prior reviewer said, have a read of what to expect with permaculture. The location sports serene sunsets, a rustic but clean feel, and is a down to earth community. It's a really great experience staying here and we would definitely go back!

If you have any farm proclivities and want to help (no expectation) pull weeds, collect eggs, harvest veggies or pitch in with dinner prep, you are certainly welcome to. The guest Lotus Belle tent is located in a private spot and you can choose your level of interaction with the others here. The plusses: - the space is beautiful and private - the frogs will sing you to sleep The minuses: - there is some road noise (not much at night). - the tent is in a relatively sunny spot. If the weather gets hot and there is no wind, we can provide a fan. If it is just too hot, we have other spaces that are often available that aren't quite as fancy but will be cooler. There is a considerable amount of wildlife on the property or passing through. You may find yourself sharing a pathway with a skunk or porcupine, encounter snakes, frogs, turtles, and toads, with many birds coming and going. Most of our property is wheelchair(ish) friendly. Please get in touch if you want specific details.
We're located on a rural stretch of Hwy 540. Not exactly a neighborhood. The closest town is Little Current (10 min by car, 30 - 40 min by bike). You can find most things there that are you likely to want to need. On farm we host Workawayers, WWOOFers, cross country cyclists, and interns from around the planet. There can be many languages happening at once at the dinner table! This summer we are opening our place to the worldschooling community (parents who travel with kids). Expect kiddo and family energy to permeate the communal spaces much of the time.
  • Justin, thank you thousands times for sharing this place with us and other members of this nice community. This is a wonderful way to live a life. Keep going. It is inspiring.

    Richard2019-10-03T00:00:00Z
  • I enjoyed staying at Justin's. He's very transparent in his profile about everything, so nothing was unexpected. The location is easy to find and is pretty central to visiting other places. The frogs, chipmunks, chickens, and other critters were my favourite part! Wish I could have stayed longer.

    Cassandra2019-09-23T00:00:00Z
  • An inspiring place to stay. Beautiful scenery and a welcoming host. The lotus bell is a cool experience and very comfy bed, easy to use composting toilets, sauna, communal kitchen and solar powered outdoor shower!

  • We really enjoyed our stay. There is a really great community of people that were welcoming to us and others who were passing through. We liked chatting with everyone about all the interesting projects they have going on. We definitely learnt a lot. The lotus tent was great. Sitting on the little patio out front of it in the evenings while looking at the stars made for a couple of beautiful nights.

    Ainsley2019-09-02T00:00:00Z
  • Justin is a wonderful host. The lotus bell was private clean and very comfortable. We felt very welcome here.

Be sure to check out my Guidebook. Manitoulin in winter has some beautiful scenic wonders. Bridal Veil Falls in Kagawong and the Ice Caves in South Baymouth are breath taking. There are many winter recreational activities to enjoy such as, snowshoeing, cross country skiing, fishing, and sledding. I do live on premises, with locked separate entrance and I am home most often, to ensure I can assist you in any way.
    Quiet time after 11 pm.
I am on a large 3 acre treed in lot with large parking capacity, suitable for trailers, etc.
