Places to stay in Falkland
This is a semi detached, private apartment in our home, with its own front door. The apartment has two double bedrooms, a small sitting room, kitchen and shower room. The cottage is located in a quiet, rural location north west of Cupar and is 1/2 mile along a farm track. The cottage has views to the south and is surrounded by fields. There is free parking at side of the cottage. We live in the main part of the cottage and are available should you need any advice planning site seeing trips.
Children are most welcome and we can provide a travel cot if needed. Continental breakfast is included, with free range eggs from our hens, if available. The kitchen has basics provided, such as olive oil, butter, milk, washing up liquid and soap powder. We also welcome up to 3 dogs. During your stay we are just next door should you have any requests or need anything.
Our cottage is set in quiet countryside 5 minutes drive north west of Cupar, which has many shops and restaurants. We are only 20 minutes from the beautiful seaside resort of St Andrews, the home of golf. We are 20 minutes away from Falkland, which is now famous for being one of the locations for the TV show "Outlander" as well as having a beautiful palace. Our cottage is close to Fernie Castle Hotel, Craigsanquhar House Hotel and Dairsie Castle. We are just 1 hour away from Edinburgh.

  • Jackie was an outstanding host. The place was cozy and homely, we loved staying and didn't mind our fury visitor who snuck through a window we left open. Jackie was quick to respond to any message and greeted us as soon as we got in. Couldn't have asked for a better host. Thank you so much!

I hope you will love my little cottage as much as I do. The cottage has been recently renovated and is full of quirky touches, the latest being my wine box stair case. I am sure you will enjoy the opulent black roll top bath but there is also a lovely rain head shower too. My place is close to family-friendly activities and great walks. The beds are super comfy and the place is warm and cosy! A good base for couples, solo adventurers, and business travellers.
The house was built in 1760 and albeit it has been altered over the years I think it has maintained a rustic charm and inviting atmosphere. The cottage has a great wood burning stove which guests are welcome to enjoy so would suggest you put logs and kindling on your shopping list. There is also a super range cooker so if you are a bit of a whizz in the kitchen I am sure you will appreciate it. You will notice little nods to Alice in Wonderland all over Wonderland Cottage but particularly in the Alice Room and the newest addition which is a fantastic stair rail made by our local Newburgh Blacksmith. We can also accommodate extra guests in our Bell tent.
Newburgh has the first documented evidence of whisky making in Scotland, come and find out about its fascinating history at Lindores Distillery. You can book tours and at the weekends enjoy a drink in the fantastic Legacy bar overlooking the old Abbey ruins. If you are around on a Tuesday evening why not go along to the Bear Tavern and get involved in the very welcoming local singalong. Don't forget we offer Gourment dining at Wonderland but there are a couple of cafes in Newburgh for lunch time snacks and Perth and St Andrews have some great restaurants. Newburgh also boasts the gate to the Fife coastal path and offers fantastic walks and scenery with the river Tay only a 5 minute walk away.
  • Wonderland cottage is so much more than the pictures and description give. The whole experience was made even better by taking Stella up on the chance to have a private dining experience in le petit chapeaux. Stella is a wonderful host and chef.

  • Don't miss out on this beautiful quirky wee cottage amazing host that goes above and beyond!(shouldn't say how good it is because won't be able to get any more bookings lol) fantastic can't rave enough about it can't wait to go back xx

    Clare2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • Wonderland is a beautiful, quirky cottage where you will be able to rest, relax, and escape from the world. We were there for a self-imposed writing retreat, and it was absolutely perfect. Although it is in a very small village, there is a co-op, a pub, a bank and a take away less than 5mins walk from the cottage, so you will have everything you need.

    Deborah2020-02-03T00:00:00Z
  • Stella is a phenomenal host, definitely take her up on the offer of dinner in her private restaurant, you’ll be spoiled rotten. The cottage is bursting with character and is perfect for a cosy getaway, right by the Fife coastal path.

    Emily2020-01-23T00:00:00Z
  • We had an amazing time staying at Stella's place. Beautiful, cosy, unique, quirky home, warm with everything you need. Good location for exploring places out with the town, great value for money and fantastic communication. Cannot fault, highly recommended!!

    Halde2020-01-18T00:00:00Z
  • Wonderland is a magical place, booking and communication with Stella was excellent, even when we wanted to add an additional few nights. We both felt the magic as soon as we arrived and it brought us back to childhood memories of play, fun and adventure. We arrived with fresh fruit, cereals, milk, bread and even the surprise of Tunnocks tea cakes! Stella cooked us an amazing 4-course meal during our stay and we had to walk it off the next day along the beautiful and scenic Fife coastal path. We look forward to visiting again. Stella had everything prepared to give us a warm and pleasant welcome: fully heated cottage, attentive decor and sufficient provisions so that we only have to land in our wonderful house and enjoy our stay ... Our hostess gave of herself to create this haven of well-being and you can feel it: you immediately imbibe this strength, the joy and the serenity that emanate from it. This is also what the village of Newburgh has to offer, with all the amenities we needed: transportation and store; what made us want: artistic inspiration and hikes; and the icing on the cake: pleasant and friendly inhabitants and a (micro?!) mild climate without lack of character, a rarity in the heart of winter. We have adored! The instant thunderbolt did not go unnoticed when we discovered the magical garden that Stella the beautiful has landscaped, with the same candor and power that the cottage exudes. Because we had opted for a dinner at the Petit Chapeau, the little veranda reserved for the cottage, our hostess, pro chef, amazed us by combining her gift as a decorator with her sensual culinary talents ... of a stone statue before attacking the delicious dishes! In short: we will return, we will see Stella again. Thank you, Stella, for all that you have given us. <3 Dave & Nat

  • Fab place ....what a find!! You will love it

    Michelle2019-12-26T00:00:00Z
  • Wonderland is a cottage full of quirkiness and special touches. We were really touched by the arrival package of foods, milk and cereals. You could arrive really late at Wonderland and manage to get by until you can get to a shop. We loved the place.

A recent conversion of the former stables at Moonzie house in semi open-plan style, the location is secluded with lovely views, but very near the town of Cupar. It is only 20 minutes from St Andrews or Dundee and 1 hour by train or car to Edinburgh.
Artist owned, the studio is quirky and characterful with its spiral staircase and occasional vintage furniture. The studio will comfortably accommodate 4-6 people but up to 8 if complete privacy all round not an issue! There is one double bedroom downstairs, one twin bedroom upstairs, a double sofa bed in the main living area and an additional 3 single mattresses which can be set up on the mezzanine area. On the mezzanine you will find a television and DVD player and selection of DVD'S. There are various games, jigsaw puzzles and a selection of books for entertainment. The living space, in addition to sofa, armchairs and coffee table has a dining table and chairs. A selection of music CD's is available and can be played on the system which will also connect by blue-tooth or cable to your MP3 player - there is wireless internet though being a rural location the speeds are not very fast. A large double glass door/window opens onto a small terrace where there is a bench - a collapsible table and chairs which are kept in the hallway can also be taken outside. The main living space houses the kitchen area with sink, gas hob, electric oven, microwave oven, fridge/freezer and washing machine. There is a drying rack on which to hang washing and an iron and ironing board. The bathroom is equipped with bath, shower, loo and basin, towels and a hairdryer. The studio has underfloor heating and hot water as and when required.
Moonzie is within easy reach of the East Neuk of Fife, a charming coastline peppered with small fishing and harbour towns. The beaches at St. Andrews are approximately 10 miles away and the wonderful Kinshaldy beach at Tentsmuir Forest around 8 miles. Cupar is home to several traditional pubs. Indian, Chinese, Italian food as well as and fish and chips and kebabs are widely available. There are four supermarkets, banks and convenience stores as well as several small independent shops. There are several world class restaurants in the area such as Ostlers Close Restaurant in Cupar, The Peat Inn at Peat inn, The Fish Restaurant and The Old Course in St Andrews and The Wee Restaurant and Dakota at Queensferry.

  • A wonderful escape from the hustle, bustle of normal life... Kathy's place was great for the family to all catch up and relax under the one roof. Your drinks, free range eggs and bread were a lovely touch, needless to say they didn't last long! Thanks Kathy, we had such a fantastic break.

  • Nice quiet spot but with good access to East Fife and Dundee for the V and A. Very comfortable but the spiral stair to the mezzanine is only for the easily mobile. Everything you need for a refresh break.

  • We had a great stay and we’re warmly welcomed by staff at the tavern below. The flat was very cosy despite us tuning our visit to coincide with a storm. The kids loved the space and selection of dvds and games. The kitchen was well-equipped and the beds were comfy. It’s in a beautiful village and brilliant for access to the surrounding hills. I’m already recommending the flat to friends.

    Rachel2020-02-12T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great stay! The flat was very cosy, clean, comfortable & more spacious than we expected from the photos. The staff were very accommodating & friendly too. It was a lovely, relaxing place to spend a couple of nights away from the city & in a great location directly opposite Falkland Palace.

  • We had a lovely time in Falkland. The apartment had everything we could need and more, with lovely views and easy access to the great pub and restaurant downstairs. We had no problem with the shower which a few previous reviews had mentioned- all the facilities were in great condition. Communication was also very quick and easy. Thank you for a great stay- we would love to be back!

  • Brilliant place, historic and homely.

    Ben2020-01-04T00:00:00Z
  • Without a doubt you can expect a great stay here. Fantastic location with great surroundings. A welcoming atmosphere upon arrival and immediately shown to our apartment which was exceptional, a really homely feel, filled with lots of interesting items/ pictures. You will find everything you possibly need for your stay. Beds are very comfortable, and the apartment was very well heated. Previous reviews regarding the shower seem to have been rectified as we had no problems at all, it was great. Service in the bar and restaurant was also fantastic. We had several meals in the restaurant, each time the food was really good and well presented. We found the menu to have a good choice also. The staff are very friendly too, providing a great service. 10/10 Thank you again for a great stay.

Burnside Cottage is my lovely home, nestling at the foot of East Lomond Hill in the beautiful, historic village of Falkland. I have two double bedrooms ideal for tourists hoping to explore the history of the village and its surrounds and holidaymakers wishing to enjoy the pursuits of walking, climbing, cycling or simply chilling in the peaceful countryside. Guests will have access to all rooms except my bedroom. I am happy to provide breakfast and evening meals if required at an extra cost
The cottage is located on the outskirts of the village, at the end of a private road which also serves as a public right of way to the local children's playpark and gives access to walkers wishing to explore Falkland Estate. The cottage lies adjacent to the burn which flows through the estate so you are never far from the soothing sound of running water! The cottage has everything you need for your stay as you have access to every room with the exception of my own bedroom. Please be aware, however, that the bathroom for your own private use is situated on the ground floor, a staircase away from your bedroom on the upper floor. The bath downstairs also has shower facilities. My own bedroom upstairs has an ensuite, and I am happy to allow guests to use the shower in the ensuite if they have mobility issues. The larger bedroom has a balcony with lovely views over the estate and in warmer weather I leave out a patio table and chairs which allows guests to breakfast, enjoy coffee, quaff wine or dine out in the sunshine. The second bedroom is small but perfectly formed! Parking is not an issue, and guests can park on the road immediately opposite the cottage. If bikes need to be stored, there is plenty of room in the utility room. You are welcome to use all the facilities in the kitchen, to make and prepare meals, and there will be space made available in the fridge and cupboards for your own food if required.
There is a post office in the village which also acts as a convenience store. We have pubs and hotels, cafes and gift shops all of which are very good and popular. Stunning Falkland Palace is a "must see", (it was adored by Mary, Queen of Scots) and you can learn about its amazing history by going on a regular tour or stroll around the gardens and orchard and discover one of Britain's oldest original real tennis courts (but watch out for low flying birds!). Falkland is a great starting place for walks, cycle runs, climbing up the East and West Lomond hills, indulging in a bit of history, and for Outlander fans, spotting location sites and buildings often featured in the tv series. if you're really lucky, you might even turn up when filming is in progress. You might simply want a quiet break away from the hurly-burly of work and city life by relaxing in the peace and tranquility of the countryside on my balcony!
  • Spent one night here. What an idyllic setting. Peaceful and very relaxing. Slept very well....really comfy bed!! Had the room with balcony. Libby is so welcoming and made me feel at ease. Would definitely stay again 😀😀

    Lorna2020-03-22T00:00:00Z
  • Libby is a kind, considerate hostess. The house is lovely and the room is clean and comfortable, the garden and surroundings picturesque with the historic town of Falkland a stone's throw away and the regional park of the Lomond Hills literally on the doorstep. The property is situated in the beautiful, historical village of Falkland, at the north foot of the East Lomond Hill, in the heart of the Kingdom of Fife. Falkland is small but picturesque, with traditional craft shops, quaint cafes, restaurants, pubs, hotels and lodges. Its unique charm and history led to Falkland being recognised as the first conservation village in Scotland. Architecturally the burgh is of great interest with many houses being over 300 years old having the thatched roofs replaced with pantiles. The layout is typically medieval with main street and narrow cross wynds. Falkland Palace was built by King James II, one of the finest examples of French renaissance architecture. It was built to accommodate the royal court and used mainly as a hunting lodge. Fire destroyed the east range of the palace in 1654 and the court never returned. The National Trust for Scotland restored the palace in 1954. Britain’s oldest tennis court was built here in 1539. To the west of the village is the beautiful Falkland Estate. The Estate covers around some 1900 hectares, just under one-fifth of which is wooded, with the rest divided between arable farmland on the low ground and rough grazing on the hills. More than a third is an important “designed” landscape whose major elements date from the 19th century. Falkland Estate is today a place of recreation for its many visitors. It has a network of pleasure walks from the Victorian and Edwardian periods as well as fascinating buildings such as the Memorial Chapel, the Tyndall Bruce Monument and the Temple of Decision. Situated next to the Falkland Estate is The Pillars of Hercules. This is lovely organically farmed land with its own cafe, open daily 9-5 serving delicious meals, cakes and coffee. There is also a farm shop open daily 9-6 with a great selection of fresh organic fruit, eggs and vegetables as well as wholefoods, home baked breads, meat, dairy products and gluten-free food. Recently, Falkland was used as the setting for scenes from the TV series, Outlander. The village also hosts a tennis club, a cricket club, a nine hole golf course, a local amateur football club and a bowling club as well as a small Farmer's Market selling the best and freshest of the local produce.

Falkland is very quaint and full of character. You will experience a real buzz with coaches of tourists often making short stops. The situation of the cottage is very quiet, but it is only a short walk to all amenities. Golf, tennis, walking, horse riding all available nearby.
  • Gorgeous little cottage in Royal Fife, so much little touches and extras, we didn’t need for anything. Very clean. A cosy space and stunning spiral staircase. Can’t fault it.

Thistle House is a beautiful 17th century stone built cottage situated right at the heart of one of Scotland's most beautiful ancient villages. You would have the whole house to yourself as the American/Scottish owners use this as a second home. The house is very cozy and well equipped with thick stone walls and contains everything you would need for a wonderful stay including a log fire and TV/DVD/WiFi.
The house is very cozy and well equipped with thick stone walls and a lovely warm stove. The American/Scottish owners are very keen for all guests to feel at home in their beloved second home, and the cottage has a real family feel to it. The kitchen contains everything you would need including a toaster, microwave, coffee maker, kettle and lots of cooking spices, and a really cosy dining area with table and chairs. The lovely sitting room next door has a log fire, and both rooms are simply and comfortably decorated. Upstairs there are two bedrooms plus a family bathroom. The lovely master bedroom is very peaceful and relaxing with wardrobes and plenty of storage. The second bedroom contains a single bed, perfect for a child, or this can be made into a twin bedroom. There is a further sitting room/bedroom 3 at the back of the house with a double futon sofa bed with an en-suite and access to the private back garden terrace. The sitting room downstairs also has a sofa bed if you needed any extra sleeping space. The back garden is a peaceful south-facing terrace with a seating area and a barbecue. It is totally enclosed, and the perfect spot for a glass of wine in the evenings. The cottage is well equipped for children with a cot, highchair and toys, plus Wii and DVD player all available. There are lots of family board games, movies and children's books. Guests can enjoy unlimited Wifi, phone and FreeSat TV, and laundry machines. There is access to a parking space, right next to the cottage. Falkland itself is a friendly little community and has many boutique shops, pubs, and cafes right on your doorstep, as well as a corner shop, art gallery, hairdressers, post office, chemist and bakers and of course the stunning Falkland Palace right across from the house. There are lots of peaceful walks through the Falkland Estate woods, a tennis club and golf course. Since 2013 Falkland has been used for filming the huge US STARZ TV hit "Outlander". The TV series which is based on the series of books by Diana Gabaldon tells the story of Claire Beauchamp who visits Inverness and mysteriously falls back through time to the Jacobite rising, where she meets the young outlaw Jamie Fraser. Falkland was used to re create Inverness itself in the 1940's and many of the houses and shops were re painted and turned into 1940's shops and houses. Our cottage overlooks the monument in the village which featured heavily in the first episode and is just a couple of doors down from "Farrells" where Claire looked at the blue vase (now the lovely Fayre Earth Gift Shop) and Mrs Baird's B&B (the Covenanter Hotel). During the filming in 2016 the crew built a lean to building against our cottage which was used as part of a scene. Unfortunately it was made from polystyrene so is no longer there! We have welcomed many Outlander fans who have used Thistle House as a base for their Outlander adventures! In the evenings Falkland has plenty to offer with the Stag Inn just across the road which has excellent food, and often has live music, as well as the Covenanter Hotel, the Bruce Inn and The Lomond Tavern, all 3 of which are 2 minutes walk away and all serve food. Just across from the cottage, the Campbell's bistro offers excellent coffee, lovely food and baking and you can even take your own wine in the evenings. During the day Falkland has plenty to occupy you - you can walk through the woodland paths of the Falkland Estate to a lovely organic farm shop and café, called the Pillars of Hercules, where you can stock up on organically grown fruit and vegetables and sample delicious homemade cakes and soups. The Estate has many lovely walks through the woodlands that used to be the private hunting ground of Scotland royalty, up through the Mapsie Den to the beautiful waterfall or even up to the Lomond Hills. Falkland is also a perfect base for many lovely day trips. It takes just half an hour to get to the world famous St Andrews, home of golf and full of historic sites, shops and restaurants, or you could follow the Fife Coastal Path and take in the lovely fishing villages of the East Neuk, such as Crail, Elie, Ansthruther and Pittenweem. Scotlands major cities, Edinburgh, Perth, Glasgow and Stirling are all approximate a one-hour drive away. Superb water sports, fishing, skiing/snowboarding, scenic coastal walking, cycling, and horse-riding are a few of the outdoor activities available and enjoyed by locals and visitors alike.
Walking through Falkland, it’s easy to imagine how villages must have looked in the past. For this reason it was made Scotland’s first conservation village in 1970 and Falkland holds an important place in Scotland’s history. A walk around Falkland is a remarkable experience with no fewer than 28 listed buildings in the village. Fine buildings sit next to winding wynds and the beautiful central Bruce Fountain, all set against the backdrop of the Lomond Hill and the woods of the Falkland Estate. Falkland Palace sits at the heart of the village and was the country residence of the Stuart monarchs and a favourite place of Mary Queen of Scots. Surrounded by gardens, this restored Renaissance palace is the perfect place to spend a few hours. The Kingdom Of Fife boasts a wonderful mix of stunning scenery, fascinating history, action packed activities and sports and world renowned cultural festivals - there really is something for everyone. For those interested in nature and the landscape, you could walk or cycle the Fife Coastal Path - that stretches 117 miles from the Forth Estuary in the south to the Tay Estuary in north and takes in wildlife, historic sites and stunning scenery. If you prefer hills to the coast, the Lomond Hills Regional Park takes in geological marvels such as the bizarrely shaped Bonnet Stane and Carlin Maggies Stane. Fife also boasts 300 miles of dedicated cycle routes through pretty seaside villages and along country lanes and disused railway lines. Fife is also home to all three of Scotland’s Blue Flag award-winning beaches: Elie Ruby Bay, Aberdour Silver Sands and Burntisland, alongside several other award-winning beaches. Dunfermline, a former capital of Scotland, was established by Malcolm III as a new seat for royal power in the mid-11th century and this beautiful town is blessed with several historical venues that cannot be missed. Discover the rest of the Kingdom of Fifes royal connections by first visiting the Royal Burgh of Culross, home to an ochre-coloured palace, an extremely grand and impressive house built in the 16th century. Head to the historic town of St Andrews, with its fascinating history this picture-perfect town is illustrated in the medieval centre with its narrow alleys and cobbled streets. Pay a visit to the remains of what was once Scotland’s largest and most magnificent church, climb to the top of the 33 m high St Rule’s Tower for wonderful views of the town and learn more in the Cathedral Museum. Wildlife in Fife: Although one of the smallest regions in size, the Kingdom of Fife boasts a phenomenal number of coastal habitats which are home to various species. With three river estuaries as well as forests and wetlands, the region is the perfect place to spot a vast array of wading birds and wildfowl. Its coastline and islands also provide shelter to marine animals such as grey seals as well as large seabird colonies. Attractions: Travel through the UK’s longest underwater viewing tunnel, dive with sand tiger sharks, explore the seal sanctuary and witness the beautiful coral reefs at Deep Sea World, Scotland’s national aquarium. Another fun filled family day out can be spent at the Scottish Deer Centre, home to many different kinds of deer alongside wolves, otters, Highland bulls and Scottish wildcats. Did you know that Fife was home to Scotland’s best-kept secret for over 40 years? Hidden beneath an innocent farmhouse in the East Neuk, discover Scotland’s Secret Bunker, a 100 ft underground bunker, the size of two football pitches, one on top of the other. Fife’s Festivals: There are a number of fantastic local festivals taking place in towns and villages throughout Fife, such as the Bruce Festival, where you can step back in time, or visit Cambo Estate during the Snowdrop Festival in February and March and see carpets of snowdrops by starlight. Literary lovers will enjoy Scotland’s largest poetry festival in March, the StAnza Poetry Festival in St Andrews, which gives vitality to poetry in Scotland’s oldest university town. The Crail Food Festival takes place in June offers the chance to meet local producers alongside cooking demonstrations, taste sessions and live street music. At the East Neuk Festival you can listen to enchanting chamber music in the churches and unusual venues and during the Pittenweem Arts Festival in early August, inspiring artists take over garages and gardens and you can catch a glimpse into exhibitors homes. Don’t miss St Andrews Golf Week, a week-long festival of golf activities in the home of golf or catch golf action at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship. There are a variety of Highland games taking place in the summer in towns and villages such as Cupar and Markinch, while the oldest free games in Scotland is held in Ceres. Further afield: Fife is an ideal base because of its central location. In just one hours drive from Falkland you can be in the Cairngorms experiencing the amazing snowboarding and ski fields, or up in the stunning glens and & Big Tree Country of Perthshire.

My place is five minutes from Leven promenade and beach, in the Kingdom of Fife, famous for being the 'home of golf'. St Andrews is only 12 miles away, Leven Links golf course is 5 minutes away.
My space consists of two choices of bedroom. This one is a single room which is quite small and described as a box room, probably not suitable for a very tall person, the other space listed is a double bedroom. The photos show aspects of my space. You can see that there is a bathroom with shower and bath, a living room, kitchen and dining room where I offer the unique experience of a challenge of a game of pool on a full size American pool table. There is a shed to store bicycles. Also for the Sporty types Leven Links Golf Course is only 5 minutes away. I am a member of this course and I can get you members rates if you fancy a game. I also offer some golf coaching, caddying, and I have a good knowledge of the history of Leven Links Golf Club which is one of the oldest pieces of golfing ground in the world. Leven Links lays claim to the title of the world’s eleventh oldest club! The town of Leven itself lies on the Fife Coastal Path, and this gives access to the coastal towns and fishing villages of East Neuk. This is an excellent area for cyclists to explore.
The historic course of Leven Links is a few minutes away. The front of Leven has marvellous views across the firth of forth towards North Berwick and Edinburgh.

  • The check-in was super easy and communication from our host was great. The place itself is perfect. Lots of thoughtful touches. The shower was fab. Great wifi. We cooked in the basic but very serviceable kitchen. Bed linen was good quality and the beds were comfy. Location was perfect for us - we used it as a base for the Falkirk Wheel and the Kelpies, and also Balmoral (both were a decent drive away so this wouldn't work for everyone). Auchermuchty has a well-stocked Co-Op and then just the one pub within strolling distance plus a Chinese take-away.

Katy has supplied me with local information and tips, even before my trip so I could easily prepare and organise everything I needed. I received a lovely welcome too. The tea rooms next door and pub in walking distance are an added bonus. I would definitely stay again. Thanks for everything, Katy. XXX

  • We spent one night at Katy’s house. We were kindly welcomed by Katy and a friendly word written on a board by her daughter. The room is well equipped : king size bed, table, kitchen with microwave oven, fridge, laundry with washing machine, shower....all confort en suite !! The village is very quiet. A pub is close to the house by walking 10 min but the kitchen closes at 8pm. Other restaurants for later dinners are available in Cupar, 10 min far by car. We warmly recommend this adress .

  • This is a nice place to stay. A quiet little village with lots to see in the surrounding area. The room has a pull out double bed, a table and chairs and an en suite shower and toilet. There is a shared area at the back with washing machine, tumble drier, microwave, kettle, fridge and sink. I’ve used this space to live in whilst I work up here. It suites me just fine and is good value for money.

  • Great. A lovely place to stay.

  • We’ve stayed at Ross House in Falkland many times and we are looking forward to our next stay (already booked). Set right on High Street in Falkland, Ross House is literally a stones throw to multiple pubs and restaurants, quaint shops, Falkland Palace and several picturesque walks. The location is perfect, the house is clean, the bedding is comfortable and the small garden is beautiful and private.

    Stephanie2020-02-21T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely, quirky house set in the heart of Falkland. Two coffee shops within 30 seconds of the front door and we visited three restaurants, each one no more than a two minute stroll away. Well stocked shop and baker all close by. Underfloor heating a huge hit with my kids and the comfy chair beside the fire was a hit with me! Great location to visit many different attractions. Lovely welcome from the agents.

  • Excellent would stay again

    James2020-02-12T00:00:00Z
  • This home was an incredible gem to find, and the town of Falkland equally lovely. My family had a wonderful stay in the home and truly enjoyed exploring the town. We would absolutely come back to stay again!

The Pillars Bothy is a rustic, quirky, but clean and super comfortable cottage, sleeps 4, with shower room, wifi, heating and hot water from the super woodstove. At the edge of the woods but only 100m from Pillars shop and Cafe so not remote. Footpaths from the adjacent woods lead to Falkland (20 mins), Maspie Den with its overhanging waterfall, and the Lomond Hills.. a perfect place to enjoy the simpler things, but by car, Perth is 25mins, St Andrews 35 mins, Edinburgh 1 hour 10mins.
There is a separate downstairs bedroom with a double bed. There is also a double mattress on the floor of the mezzanine platform above the sitting room. It has a steep, ladder type stair so not suitable for very young children, but great for teenagers and romantic couples! There is an open plan kitchen/diner/sitting room with a wood stove, (which does all the heating and hot water) (free firewood!) and a separate toilet with walk in shower.
Walks and cycling straight from your front door. Fife is quite rural, but Falkland village is 20 mins walk away, with palace, pubs, shops, lots of history. St Andrews is 40 mins by car, Edinburgh 1 hour. The East Neuk of Fife has many picturesque fishing (Website hidden by Airbnb) Monans, Pittenweem, Anstruther, Crail. And not a sign of a nightclub anywhere ! Follow us on (Hidden by Airbnb) , (Hidden by Airbnb) and Instagram for more insight into the Pillars!
  • We loved our weekend at the bothy. The kids slept up in the mezzanine and were cosy and warm. It was like a treehouse up there! We spent our time reading by the fire and listening to Ella Fitzgerald. We also walked into Falkland which is only 20 minutes away and had a lovely wander around. The farm café and shop are terrific and have a wonderful selection of food. We enjoyed a delicious lunch at the café on Sunday before heading home. We'd love to come back again in the New Year.

  • A beautiful cozy cottage for romantic winter breaks.

    Marlies2019-12-08T00:00:00Z
  • I booked Judy's place for two colleagues as we were having meetings at Falkland Palace and the Woodland Hub. Wendy and Nadine loved the space! Here are their words: “A beautiful little haven, tucked up against the trees. Just what we needed! Loved doing some walks through the woods... and so lovely to have the delightful Pillars of Hercules shop/café close by for yummy treats!” Wendy (Edinburgh) "I enjoyed so much your hospitality ... in this cosy lovely "cabane dans les bois"... Perfect for our retreat purpose, perfect to host and dive into some inquiries..." Nadine (France)

    Jo And Louie2019-11-24T00:00:00Z
  • The bothy is the most cozy, Judy is a great host and the pillars the best shop! Historic Falkland and fantastic walks nearby.

    Kasper2019-11-06T00:00:00Z
  • Enchanting accommodation, privacy and peace galore. Surrounded by beautiful Woodlands. Would highly recommend.

    Laura2019-11-03T00:00:00Z
  • absolutely superb place, it's my second time there and love it even more, will be coming again, Bothy is the epitome of coziness! Highly recommended

    Radim2019-10-13T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed here for 3 nights and it was so cozy! The fireplace was really authentic and we loved the wee house! The café and farm shop was lovely, we bought everything for our dinner there and cooked it in the bothy. Very close to Falkland which has nice stores, restaurants and Outlander locations :) Thanks for this stay, hope we can come back in the future.

    Isabella2019-09-01T00:00:00Z
  • We absolutely loved the bothy. The farm shop is absolutely brilliant and we loved getting cosy and enjoying the surrounding area. Brilliant WiFi but everything else was brilliantly rustic and exactly what we wanted. We hope to come back again some day!

Coronavirus Update - in the light of the new rules, we will only accept bookings from local people who need to protect relatives from the virus, after careful discussion. Holmlea is a cosy but airy cottage c. 1840, nestled in a quiet, pretty little road in the friendly village of Freuchie. With spacious, high-ceilinged rooms, Holmlea has an arty, vintage style, and is a comfortable and relaxing space. The cottage is light, and you can park in the road and in a free car park 25 metres away.
Homelea is full of original features, and we have added a beautiful cream Jotul stove with Delft tiling as a focal point for the living room, with sweet little insect illustrations. All of the artworks in the cottage are original, as we are an artistic family, and many are available for sale. Outside, although there is not a garden, there is a bench where you can sit out in the sun, and a back doorstep area where you can also take chairs and a table out for breakfast or in the evening when it is fair. There are also parks close by and a cricket ground. There is a guitar you can borrow if you didn't manage to bring your own! In the bathroom there is a new shower over a bath, and there is lovely antique furniture throughout. There is a new smart TV, so you can access Netflix, Freeview etc. Please note that although the cottage is all on one level, there is one step up at the front door and three at the back. We have aimed for the cottage to be homely, comfortable, attractive and the sort of place we would love to stay on holiday. Coming mid-January - a lovely sofa bed so we will be to accommodate 4 guests!
Freuchie is a very friendly community, and there are local shops for groceries etc five minutes walk away. There is also a 24 hour garage with large Spar shop just outside Freuchie, which sells craft beers, and great hotels and pubs are also nearby - our guests are often adopted by the friendly villagers! The legendary Pillars of Hercules is a short drive away, a characterful cafe/restaurant with a very laid-back approach, delicious home baked food, and health store - lots of tables outside and in. The Lomond Hills are on your doorstep for amazing 360 degree views of Fife (you can walk, or drive up most of the way to a car park and viewing point), and the historic village of Falkland is a five minute drive away and well worth a visit, for its beautiful old buildings, famous tea rooms, gorgeous gift shops, and the fascinating and beautiful Falkland Palace and Gardens, which features one of the oldest tennis courts in the world. Outlander was filmed here. You will find that almost everyone you pass in Freuchie says hello!
  • Very spacious cottage. Super clean and cozy feeling. Bed is very soft and living room with the lmaps on makes a perfect space to spend an evening. Would recommend

    Ryan2020-03-16T00:00:00Z
  • Such a beautiful cottage, spotlessly clean and nicely decorated. It has everything you could possibly need to feel at home. There is even a bookshelf containing a good selection of books and a couple of board games which I particularly enjoyed. Katy provided all the information necessary to make finding the cottage and checking in super easy and there is even a large free car park really close by so parking the car was not an issue at all. Would definitely recommended staying here and I hope to return again myself in the future!

    Laura2020-03-15T00:00:00Z
  • A beautiful property very clean and very well looked after and great attention to detail given in the decoration. I would recommend booking and staying at this property and would love to return and stay there again myself one day

    Craig2020-03-11T00:00:00Z
  • We loved our stay at Holmlea. A traditional cottage, cute with period charm. Oh yes. But everything inside works perfectly, and the interior is so beautifully done with lots of caring touches and a bed which was deliciously comfy after a day's coastal exploration. We particularly loved the fire (with logs) and guitar. A wonderful place, and a wonderful weekend. Thank you, Katy.

    Bob2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing location with amazing views. The smallest of touches that even I wouldnt think of! Thank you ever so much for a lovely weekend xx

    Hannah2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • Perfect location, perfect cottage, perfect hosts :) Thank you :)

    Catherine2020-02-24T00:00:00Z
  • A charming, welcoming cottage, friendly village, and perfect location for touring. Wonderful, thoughtful hosts - will definitely recommend to family and friends, and will definitely return.

    Mary2020-02-12T00:00:00Z
  • You will open the door to Homelea and feel at home immediately - that is if you are lucky enough to live somewhere as cosy and artistic as Katy’s cottage! You rolling in the Edinburgh or Fife area.will find everything you need of such quality and thought to cook a meal ( shops open late nearby), then snuggle up on a comfortable sofa in front of the fire and perhaps watch a favourite film. The bedroom is also exceptionally comfortable - we’ve had a welcome night’s rest every visit! Every item, from Katy’s choice of crockery to the lovely paintings on the walls by Katy and her professional artist family, are high quality and not the usual items expected in an Airbnb property. Homelea is ideally situated, near commuting train station into Edinburgh and in the heart of the beautiful Fife coast and countryside. From Freuchie you can see the breadth of Edinburgh’s coastline, a hop over the Fife bridge! We will always choose to stay here!

This charming barn conversion in the village of Freuchie is ideally placed for exploring the picturesque East Neuk fishing villages, and the historic towns and cities of St Andrews, Edinburgh, Stirling and Dundee. Falkland Palace, the ancient home of Scottish Kings is just a mile away and there are lovely walks through the village and the Lomond Hills.
Lovely spacious accommodation combining character with every modern amenity to make your stay homely and comfortable.
There is an excellent village store just 80 yards from the cottage, open daily from 6am - 10pm. The quaint 18th century local pub The Albert Arms and The Lomond Hills Hotel are just a couple of minutes walk from the house and there is an very good garden centre and cafe at the village road end.
  • Mary's home is perfect. Small warm and very cosy. In the centre of the village, shop, pub and restaurant just a minutes walk away. Fantastic centre point for all the major attractions, Anerdeen, Perth, Dundee, St Andrews...... A lot off attention has been put into the home, just when you think you have seen everything there then something else catches your eye. A fantastic stay, will book again as we are regulars to stopping over in and around Fife. Many thanks for a great breakaway. :)

It’s decorated beautifully and felt so cozy and lovely. When we come back, we will definitely stay here again. Wonderful experience! Roaming around the shops in Falkland is a must!

  • What a lovely find! It is in a quaint little village. Ewan’s place is lovely, thoughtfully left bits out such as washing tablets, fairy liquid etc as well as a bed for the dog, a bowl and some treats. So kind! Douglas loved the view from the balcony, as there were lots of birds flying around. The bets were comfortable. Really lovely place, thank you!!

    Joanne2020-03-05T00:00:00Z
  • Ewan has really thought of every thing. I couldnt fault it. Loved the wood burner, the bed was so comfortable, the place was spotlessly clean and the decor very stylish. Our dog was made very welcome too. Ewan clearly carers about his guests experience and it shows in how the house is presented. 5 out of 5!

It has everything you need whether you are planning to stay for one night or a week or two. You have your own private access to the Annex and parking outside. It’s easy to find. There is so many wonderful and interesting pieces of furniture and ornaments. It’s beautifully laid out. And for two people there’s so much space. You will not be disappointed!

  • Lovely annex with beautiful and modern amenities. Beautiful surroundings with nearby train station for travelling. Thoughtful touches such as breakfast croissants in the fridge and toiletries were much appreciated! We also received some lovely chilli’s from their greenhouse for our Mexican meal we were making that night which was very thoughtful. Highly recommend!

A fabulous 3 bedroomed cottage built in 1809 and converted in 1992 from the Steading at Ladywell. Beautiful gardens and a south facing patio make this a relaxing and warm home from home. 2 bathrooms, one an ensuite, and a large kitchen/diner and a light and airy sitting room make this a perfect property for up to 6.
  • Lovely cottage. Just a short walk into the centre of Falkland. Convenient for all the East Neil seaside villages and St Andrews. Quite a few places to take young children too.

    Stainescathy@Aol.Com2019-08-10T00:00:00Z
  • A beautiful renovated place, with very nice sleeping rooms and bathroom. Great place to spend at least a few days, with nice walking opportunities in the vicinity. Duncan is a really nice host and tries to keep things perfect. Highly recommend.

    Michiel2019-08-02T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely cottage at Ladywell House and easy walking distance into Falkland. Great place to explore Fife from. Freshly decorated throughout and delightful. Would definitely stay again if opportunity arose.

    Beccy2019-07-29T00:00:00Z
  • We had a fantastic stay in Duncan’s place. It was absolutely spotlessly clean and had everything we could ever need. It’s a shame the weather wasn’t better or we would have enjoyed the outside space more. We did love the trampoline! It was also in a perfect location for walking the Lomonds and for visiting family in Fife. We would also recommend the Lomond Tavern for something to eat close by and a visit to the Palace. The boys loved the Lego mini figure hunt in the Palace (age 36 and 30). If we visit Fife again we will definitely look this place up.

The double bedroom is on the ground floor and has the exclusive use of a bathroom with shower over bath. The location of the cottage provides an easy base for visiting St Andrews, Dundee and the surrounding areas. I will provide a simple breakfast which will be served in the shared dining kitchen; tea and coffee making facilities are provided in the room. The room is ideal for couples or solo travellers.
The small, comfortable, double bedroom forms part of a renovated cottage with magnificent views over the surrounding countryside. Access to a guest only garden area, where it's often possible to see dear, foxes and birds of prey. The perfect location to explore North East Fife and to escape from the city.
The cottage is just outside a beautiful and peaceful village in North East Fife and is a great base for walkers and for anyone who wants to explore the East of Scotland. It's a great place to relax and escape to.
  • Lovely cottage with a nice host. Private bathroom and a kindly breakfast in the Isabelle’s kitchen.

  • Perfect hostess! A warm welcome in a nice clean and cozy room. Worthy of a hotel with coffee and tea in your room. Moreover if you are looking for calm, the setting is ideal for diving in the heart of the countryside. Thank you again Isabelle for your welcome and the good breakfast the next morning.

  • Perfect place for us to stay after a wedding at Dairsie Castle

    Katy2019-09-01T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage is a bit off the main road, but thanks to a detailed description of the host we were able to find it even at night. Unfortunately we couldn't stay long. Still we felt right at home and welcome at Isabelle's cosy cottage. We loved our nicely decorated room and comfortable bed. We recommend it.
