National Park
“Kings Canyon National Park is a national park in the southern Sierra Nevada, east of Fresno, California. The park was established in 1940 and covers 461,901 acres. It incorporated General Grant National Park, established in 1890 to protect the General Grant Grove of giant sequoias. The park is north of and contiguous with Sequoia National Park; the two are administered by the National Park Service jointly as the Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks. You will pass through this national park along Highway 180 if you are exiting the back way through the Sequoia National Park. The views and hiking trails within this part of the Sierra Nevada Mountains is spectacular and is a must see. ”

Zoo
“Want to spend the day visiting the animals? Well, this is the best place to do just that! Fresno Chaffee Zoo is located in Roeding Park in Fresno and covers 39 acres and houses over 190 species of animals. Its attractions include Stingray Bay, Dino Dig, Valley Farm, Sea Lion Cove, African Adventure, and Ross Laird's Winged Wonders Bird Show. The zoo is accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) and is a member of the World Association of Zoos and Aquariums (WAZA). This zoo received a local multi-million dollar bond that was passed as a proposition by the citizens of Fresno County several years back. Not only did this proposition keep the Fresno Chaffee Zoo from going bankrupt and possibly disappearing completely, but it provided enough funds for expansive remodeling and major improvements to many of its exhibits. Now the displays are much more dramatic and the animals in captivity have a much larger and more natural habitat to exist. The safari and the sea lion cove happen to be two of the most recent additions to this park that really have transformed it completely. It is something to be proud of that it now exists right in our backyard here in Fresno. Great place to spend the day with family, especially for the kids!”
