Come stay at our cute cabin on the Mississippi River. Small one room cabin has everything you need for the perfect getaway, including a beach! Full size bed in the curtained off bedroom area, plus bunk bed, and two couches provide plenty of space to crash after a long day exploring the outdoors. Sleeping loft located above the bedroom area can be used for extra kid sleeping area. Full bath and kitchen with basic supplies will make you feel almost like home.
Rustic cabin with wonderful areas to explore along the banks of the Mississippi. Situated along the banks of the Mighty Mississippi just a short drive from Nauvoo, IL, this cute cabin is just the place for you if your ideal day consists of exploring outdoors during the day and resting your weary head at night. Nestled in the middle of nature, this cozy, non-smoking cabin is small, but it has everything you will need including a fully equipped kitchen and full-sized bathroom. You will feel like you are camping, but with more amenities including a new window air conditioning unit. The cabin can comfortably sleep four people, but it will accommodate up to six on the new mattresses and couches. If the steep driveway is a problem, you are welcome to park at the bottom of the hill. Because there is no tv or internet, you will have plenty of time to explore the grounds. As long as the Mississippi River is not too high, you can spend the day on the beach fishing or swimming. You can also explore the woods around the cabin or the nearby creek. Be sure to look for eagles because there is a bald eagle's nest nearby. If you simply want to relax with a good book while the kids play and explore, you will be able to do that on the new deck. With Nauvoo being so close, you could also explore the many attractions in town before heading back to the peaceful riverfront setting. At night, enjoy building a bonfire on the beach using the occasional driftwood that washes up when the river is high.
Very quiet and peaceful. The other cabins bedside ours do not usually have people in them, but they are nice neighbors. The other places farther down the road have people living in them year round.
  • Perfect spot to relax, watch the river, read, etc. I saw three Bald Eagles, spent half a day in Ft Madison, but most of my time was spent on the gorgeous deck surrounded by oak trees. The host was very responsive and accommodating. This is a great spot to get away from it all!

  • The view is stunning! Great getaway if you’re looking for peace and quiet! The kids really enjoyed hunting for rocks! (They were even ok with unplugging) The cabin was very clean and comfortable! Plenty of hot water! Would return in the future!

Located 1½ miles north of Keokuk, nestled on a bluff overlooking the Mississippi River, sits a quiet sanctuary waiting for you. There is a private bedroom with a queen bed and another sleeping area with four twin beds, perfect for one person or a family. All are welcome! Relax, enjoy nature, and take advantage of our large backyard. We are located approximately 18 miles from downtown Nauvoo via the bridge in Keokuk. WINTER SEASON TRAVELERS: 4-wheel or All Wheel drive required for snow & ice
We allow dogs of all sizes (a crate is set up for your convenience), but due to host allergies, no cats can visit. We have two chihuahuas who have their own fenced in area on the side of the house (which is a good thing because they don't always get along well with other dogs).
  • Beautiful property. I wish we had more time. It was such a fun and relaxing environment. I hope we can return one day. It is lovely.

  • My husband an I have stayed multiple times at this lovely home and plan to return each time we are in the area. The hosts are extremely quick to responded and extremely eager to be of assistance, if needed. We always feel welcome and each time we walk through the door, it’s like coming back home.

  • If you’re looking for a nice place that’s off the beaten path, this is it! We only got to spend one night at the retreat but it was a wonderful setting, well appointed and the hosts are awesome! Not to mention the sunrise across the river! I think you’ll thoroughly enjoy it as much as we did.

    Jason2019-11-09T00:00:00Z
  • David makes booking and using his space so easy. Communication is wonderful, the space is very clean, and it’s a calm and peaceful setting. We loved our stay for a girls retreat and plan to return!

The Guest Suite of the historic 1843 Bennett-Rust aka Anton-Kelley home is located in a residential area of Nauvoo and can be rented only by the month (i.e. 30-days). It has a private outside entrance and is superbly located one block north of the Nauvoo Temple. Period furniture will take you back in time while the modern conveniences of a recent complete renovation will make your stay comfortable.
Private outside entrance down six steps to the ground level of the circa 1850 3-story addition made using original Nauvoo Temple stone. This private suite has been recently completely renovated, and has a full bathroom with tub & shower, microwave & fridge, and trundle bed (two twin beds).
Located one block north of the Nauvoo Temple and Family History Center. An easy walk west down Young St takes you to the Catholic or LDS Churches, the Outdoor Stage, the Visitors Center, "Old Nauvoo", and the Nauvoo Pageant and Fair.
  • This place is a cozy space in the basement separated from the rest of the house with its own entrance. It's been a good size for me while I stay in Nauvoo for work. Great value for long stays!

    Nicole2020-01-31T00:00:00Z
  • Barbara was a fantastic host, and made sure my stay was perfect. Quaint little place, nice and clean, and very affordable!

    Madison2019-10-19T00:00:00Z
  • Views of the Nauvoo Temple out the back door. Walking distance to everything. Dan and Barbara are perfect hosts. So grateful for the availability of reasonable accommodations in historic Nauvoo, with such a nice touch of home in everything. We'd pursue staying longer if they weren't already booked solid.

This is the lower level of a well kept home that also includes a ground level breezeway/living area. The Retro style coca-cola theme makes for a cute living area. There are two separate areas to the house that may be rented separately or together. Each area has its own entryway. Hamilton is located south of Nauvoo, IL, west of Carthage, IL and right across the river from Keokuk, IA. Lots of things to see and do!
This retro style lower level with coca-cola theme and big screen tv has a kitchen area complete with a full-size stove, refrigerator, sink, and countertop bar. There’s also a daybed with a trundle in the living area and two electric adjustable twin beds in the side room. The ground level has a drop leaf table and chair set, a sofa sleeper, a reclining love seat, and two lazy boy chairs. It also has a fenced in backyard which includes a gas grill and fire area. The yard is shared with the other rental unit.
Small town country feel — located next to the library and the city park
  • This place is perfectly situated in the middle of Keokuk, Nauvoo, and Carthage. It’s cozy and easily accommodates a large family or group. It was just what we needed.

  • This place has so much room! It’s only 15 min to Nauvoo. It is listed at an excellent price! The host is super quick to respond

  • Kim responds to messages quickly. Her home was fun and comfortable. Will definitely stay here again if I ever go East again.

  • This was a clean and cute place to stay close to Nauvoo, IL which was our destination. Six of us stayed comfortably.

    Karlene2019-07-23T00:00:00Z
  • Kim is a great host and was very helpful when we needed some flexibility.

    Kevin2019-07-21T00:00:00Z
  • This is a lovely place to stay and well worth the price! We stayed in the basement while another group stayed above. With some stairs connecting the two units, noise can travel easily between spaces, so keep that in mind if you are a light sleeper or will be a noisy group. Our neighbors were loud into the night, but this is nothing against the airbnb itself or host. We enjoyed the coke theme and spacious area. We recommend for any group checking out Nauvoo or surrounding areas.

    Sydney2019-07-14T00:00:00Z
  • Nice yard to play in. Close to Nauvoo. Super comfortable. Had everything we needed.

This 3 bed, 1 bath restored brick home is located in Keokuk, Iowa, just 12 miles south of Nauvoo, IL and 66 miles north of Hannibal, MO. Great location for a family vacation. Bathroom upstairs, not suitable for those with limited mobility. We have a new air conditioning system, house stays cool during the summer months. There is only one bathroom so if you have a large group, be prepared to share. There are plenty of extra towels.
When requesting dates, if you need to book a date either side of your reservation that shows as unavailable, send me a message. I block a day either side of a reservation to allow for cleaning but may be able to have it cleaned more quickly on an individual basis. Thanks for looking!
This is a pretty quiet neighborhood. There can be traffic in the alley, so please be careful with small children. You can park on the street in front of the house or behind the house on the grass near the garage.
  • Place was very clean and nice

    Bekah2019-08-11T00:00:00Z
  • A beautiful historic home! We loved the spiral staircase and antique furniture. Although our travels brought us to Nauvoo, it has handy staying in Keokuk since that is where all the shopping is. Looking forward to coming soon.

Emma’s Cottage is close to great views, family-friendly activities, Nauvoo sites and the Historic Nauvoo Temple. You’ll love it because of the comfy bed, the coziness, the river views, privacy, peacefulness and close to everything.. It is good for couples, families, solo adventurers, and business travelers. The cottage was build around the 1940’s . If you enjoy privacy in an authentic environment then you’ll love it.
Please note that during July the minimum stay is 2 night stay. The cottage is an open floor plan.
The cottage in close to the river in a rural setting. My neighbor is antisocial so don't mind all his No Trespassing Signs.
  • Quaint, cute, comfortable, cozy. Guest cottage on a small farm. Near to the Mormon temple and Mississippi River. Sara was a hospitable and responsive host.

This is a well kept home in the quaint town of Hamilton, IL. It’s right across the river from Keokuk, Iowa with a beautiful river drive to Nauvoo, IL on the north with Carthage, IL to the east. This brick home is on a corner lot between the city park and the public library. There’s a lot of space to relax and enjoy with family and friends. Great eating places in Keokuk, Hamilton, Warsaw, Nauvoo, and Carthage.
We have a large front yard and a fenced in back yard that includes a fire pit and grill area that you are welcome to use.

  • Awesome Place. Lots of room. Great kitchen. Very homey. If you're coming to Hamilton and need a place to stay I highly recommend Kim's Place.

    Wina2019-11-30T00:00:00Z
  • Incredible house! Lots of room, bathrooms were very clean, and kitchen was huge! My wife told me, "take photos, cause I want a kitchen this big someday!" Beds we're on the firm side with plenty of room on the King mattresses. Being able to use a propane grill was a really nice addition for grilling up steaks. Most of the wedding party stayed in a cabin resort near Nauvoo, and several expressed regret when they saw or heard how great our stay in this lovely home was!

This cozy studio in a shady forest is cool enough to forgo A.C. A clean newly remodeled unit, it is low frills. Wifi is provided but this unit does not have a TV. This is for someone wanting one step above camping....a really comfortable queen bed with amazing pillows, a place to cook a simple meal and take a hot shower.....in the middle of beautiful country on a 44 acre lake. This is a downstairs unit so others may be above. Covered parking is provided a few feet from the entrance.
You will be in a quiet safe forest with nature all around. Eggs, bread and butter will be provided as well as coffee and tea. Clean towels and nice linens with a chest full of additional bedding if needed. A gas fire place gives a gentle warmth on a cool evening. A variety of wildlife may be seen or heard while visiting this local such as raccoon, squirrel, skunk, deer, beaver, groundhog, fox, coyotes, and bats along with numerous water fowl and birds.
The neighborhood is nestled among oaks, hickories, and walnuts making it squirrel heaven. The deer are often seen grazing in the nearby pasture. There are only 3 houses in the neighborhood...all sisters....thus a Sisterhood. I have an old gray cat, Catnow, how wanders the neighborhood looking for a friend to scratch his back. Otherwise, no pets...no barking dogs....only howling coyotes.
  • This is a beautiful place. We really enjoyed the stay and the walk around the lake. The barn was neat and tidy and was reasonably priced. It was indeed a pleasure meeting the wonderful host Jennifer. We would love to visit this place again.

    Vivek2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • My husband and I just spent the weekend here and were blown away with how perfect our stay was. Jenn's place surpassed our expectations many times over! She personally made sure that the lane to the barn was freshly plowed so snow would not prohibit us from reaching it (even with late-notice booking). She also stocked the kitchen with eggs, bread, butter, and homemade wine that was absolutely AMAZING! Additionally, she left a map of the property and the gorgeous hiking trail encircling the lake. The property is just off the main roads but private enough to be completely surrounded by nature. The views of the lake and forest are priceless--not to mention the stars at night! The barn apartment itself was tastefully and beautifully decorated, the gas fireplace was cozy and romantic, and so many amenities (extra blankets, dishes/flatware, plenty of towels, privacy tinting on all the windows, etc.) made us aware of how much thought Jenn and her family put into preparing this space. We had never been to Carthage but were delighted to find plenty of places to eat and shop. If you are thinking about booking this place, please do! We only wish we could have stayed longer!

    Katelyn2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • Jennifer was a very great host I even had a bent rim on my truck she called some her family they came over and helped me out with a ride and more I really recommend this place she is such a great host

    Eric2020-01-31T00:00:00Z
  • Great space, quiet and peaceful. Great view of the lake!

    Denae2019-12-22T00:00:00Z
  • Jenifer is one of those hosts that are absolute angles that walk among us. Her families live music and singing performance was heart warming not to mention her incredible country style meat balls. I would order early while her holiday supplies last You will fall I love with the fire place while sleeping in a wonderful bed. The outdoor cat thinks he is a dog and loves to play and run through the woods with you He will even act like a black panther and climb over your head in a tree to smile down at you Great pictures around the lake makes this place a hidden jem

    Jerry2019-12-20T00:00:00Z
  • This is a place you will not forget The lake and woods are amazing and the fireplace is increadable

    Jerry2019-12-06T00:00:00Z
  • Jennifer's place is a great place to rest and recharge. It was a perfect escape from the city for us. Its clean, cute, very comfortable, and nestled in a great location that's quiet with beautiful lake views. Would highly recommend to others.

    Ashley2019-11-03T00:00:00Z
  • After finishing a long, hectic project at work, I was looking for a quiet place to escape, unwind, and work on my novel. I got exactly that. With several comfortable pieces of furniture, the warm ambiance of the fireplace, and the serene view of the trees leading down to Lake Linda, the barn studio has a cozy glow that soaks right into the bones. Cozy, in this case, does not mean cramped, either. I was surprised by how spacious it was, with plenty of room to settle in for a week and never feel claustrophobic. I found the studio to have just the right amount of functionality. Jennifer said it well when she called it one step above camping. The simplicity was refreshing. The ability to unplug from the beckon of the modern world, rejuvenating. Jennifer and her son showed tremendous hospitality, allowing me the space I needed to write while simultaneously making sure I felt welcome, included, and had everything I needed. What truly made this place special, however, were the things I didn't expect. There was a lovely nature trail that wound through the woods and around the lake. It was the perfect way to breathe in some fresh air and let the mind wander. I enjoyed a relaxing evening out at the firepit. And my favorite little bonus - my new best friend, Catnow, the quirky farm cat with a huge heart. He introduced himself immediately and made it a point to stop by often for friendly, purr-happy hellos. This place was a writer's dream and would be the same for anyone looking for a place to escape for a while. If I'm in need of another quiet retreat in the future, I know where I'll go.

Guests share the kitchen facilities. The patio has a hot tub, gas BBQ, umbrella table, and fire pit in yard.
The White House Inn, Smith Suite, is roomy and has a comfortable queen bed with a private bathroom. It is on the main floor with a full kitchen with pancake mix on hand just down the hall. The kitchen is shared with other guests. A hot tub is on the back patio to sooth you're visiting muscles aching from all the day's activities.
The White House Inn is in Nauvoo's downtown, and has everything from the Fudge Factory to a Dollar General to Casey's gas station, along with many curio, art and souvenir shops. Just on the west end of town is the Nauvoo Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. And just down the hill are the carefully restored pioneer homes and businesses . The White House Inn is right in the thick of it all.
  • This was such a great place to stay in Nauvoo! It was so close to the temple and close to shops and restaurants. Would definitely stay here again!

  • Wayne is a great host. He is super quick at responding to questions. I was travelling without the advantage of internet except where I could get wifi. Wayne sent me all the information I needed to access the suite before I left Canada, which was extremely helpful. He has a phone line connected in the house where he left his home and cell numbers so he could be contacted if anything came up, no need to worry about internet. Wayne is very friendly and cares about the accommodations he offers and the people who visit. He welcomed me, showed me around and pointed out extra supplies, and pancake mix! The set up is really nice. I stayed in the Smith Suite and it was perfect! The bed was super comfy. I was surprised to find a TV in my suite, I guess I never considered tv because I was in Nauvoo for a conference and not planning on staying in my suite except to sleep. There was an extra blanket and pillow should they be needed. The kitchen (a common area) is well stocked with utensils and dishes. He even has a double oven. Wayne surprised everyone (all suites were booked when I stayed) with delicious donuts one morning. I would recommend staying here when visiting Nauvoo and area. Everything is as he reports or better. You can easily walk downtown Nauvoo and if you do not mind a longer walk, you can walk down to Old Nauvoo also. One day I was having some difficulty with the wifi but I thought it could be my phone, not the wifi because some websites seemed to work. I didn't report it because I was only there a little while that morning but another guest contacted Wayne and he came over to check the modem. Like I said, great host!! You can expect promptness, cleanliness, and a desire to make sure your stay is enjoyable.

  • If you’re visiting historic Nauvoo, this is the place to book! Just a few miles out of town, this home is spacious and open. The owners thoughtfully supplied extras such as soaps, shampoos and conditioners, laundry detergent, trash bags, etc. The owners accommodated our every request and were very quick in their responses. This was an excellent experience, and we are already planning a return trip.

  • Great place to stay with large family. We stayed during our visit to Nauvoo, and the host was very accommodating to our needs, answered my phone call when I called. The house is definitely in the middle of nowhere, but so is Nauvoo. House was clean and very welcoming. The wife was a little worried by the looks of the outside of the house, but once inside she felt like she was at home. Thanks for the stay

This is your weekend getaway location. Solar panels, water storage and propane for you to experience complete off-grid living. No WiFi, no loud noises but instead board games and the sounds of the country. Relax on the porch overlooking the pond while having all the at home living things that you need, just smaller. Cook s'mores by the wood stove or right outside the cabin by campfire under the milky way and stars, seen like never before. Come experience it!
A true off-grid space where normal hotel amenities are not available and the cabin life is at your fingertips. The water is harvested by rainwater and is stored on site, truly an off-grid experience. Drinking water is provided in a stand-up container. The electricity is provided by the sun and solar panels so you are again depending on mother nature to provide energy. The toilet is not your normal hotel toilet but rather a compost toilet where directions are provided at the toilet. Wall propane heat is provided to keep you comfy all night. An open face wood stove is located at an inside corner of the cabin to light a small fire and cozy up to. There is a ladder to access the primary bed located in the loft, which is a little like a tree house entry, and there is also a pull out couch on the main level. The deck has an amazing view overlooking the pond and is elevated without railing to make the view even better. There is a small gas refrigerator and a two burner gas stove top as well. The neighbor has German Shepard dogs so if you bring your dog with just keep him or her close by. Cell phone service is not the greatest at this remote location adding to the retreat, off-grid experience but plan accordingly when using GPS based maps for directions (I will provide detailed directions after you make a reservation). Due to solar power energy no air conditioning at this cabin. I have blocked off the summer months due to no air conditioning but if you want a glamping weekend anytime through the summer just message me.
  • What a fun experience. Cute and cozy cabin that was perfect for a girls' night away.

    Kelly2020-01-20T00:00:00Z
  • Cabin Toco is the perfect place to disconnect and reflect after midwinter holiday craziness. Nothing like a crackling fire in a cozy cabin in complete solitude. My wife and I had an amazing New Year retreat and hope to make it a more regular habit.

    Alec2020-01-04T00:00:00Z
  • This place was EXACTLY what I was looking for, for a quick get away from the city. A perfect place under the stars for a “glamping” experience. I appreciated all the simple/easy to follow directions left by Matt when I arrived, and what he messaged when I booked. I think my only regret is that I couldn’t stay longer! Thanks, Matt!

    Jacklyn2020-01-01T00:00:00Z
  • Great off-the-grid place to stay. Very clean and cozy. Amazing ambiance and a wonderful way to get back to nature and take a break from big city life.

    Stacey2019-11-25T00:00:00Z
  • This was our 2nd time visiting. That says enough about how much we love the place. If you're looking for a cozy place to disconnect for a little, this is perfect. Matt is so accommodating as well. A real gem we found.

  • Cabin was wonderful. We had a great stay. Very peaceful and quiet. A great place to get away.

    Mark2019-05-27T00:00:00Z
  • Great escape from any big city, a real hidden gem and great value! Super clean and great amenities for a peaceful little cabin. Matt has set the property up perfectly. Highly recommended!

    Kyle2019-05-12T00:00:00Z
  • This little cabin is amazing! It's cozy, it's clean, it's beautiful, and it's private. The whole space was amazing and peaceful and our family had a wonderful time feeding the fish in the pond, playing the board games on the picnic table, sitting around the firepit, playing tag in the yard, and spending time together in a way that we don't often get a chance to do much anymore. The little off-grid cabin provided such a lovely, un-plugged, close-knit kind of experience, while still providing the comforts of home. Matt is an awesome host and his cabin is perfect for those wanting to get away from the hustle and bustle for a little while, relax in a beautiful and comfortable setting, and spend some quality time with family or friends. I highly recommend this place.

"Nauvoo" understandably translates as "Beautiful." It is a renown place of fascinating history, presented through free and family-centered activities. We hope you plan on spending some quiet down-time in the cottage just to draw upon the peaceful persuasion of the place being on the wide, blue river. We have decorated our cottage as we have decorated our previous homes, with a Scandinavian touch. We hope you enjoy the heart-warming, cheerful, and fresh charm of the cottage. Valkommen!
We have plenty of woodland property for you to explore and make all the noise you want, and no other party will hear or notice. We consider our porch our first room, as it has an open view of the wide river right in front of you and plenty of seating. We also have a picnic table there with a gas barbeque. Our kitchen table sits only 6 or 7, but the picnic table is enough for our given guest count. The cottage is compact but open, and fine for families who wish to spend their days sight-seeing the area and come home to it's cozy comfort. We regret our dock went down river some years ago and since then there is no beach left. However, across the street and kitty corner is a relaxing walk along the river on the mowed green grass of the Hammas Scenic Turn-out. You can see why the slips of shore are often called by visitors as "shell shore." The Nauvoo/Hamilton area is renown for its geodes and guests sometimes come just to seek them in streambeds and in the river. We have many around the yard that we have found.
We are located adjacent to a scenic turn-out that offers a nice stroll along the river and picnic tables and invite you to discover "Shell Shore." This portion of the river is located above the only damn on the Mississippi River, and is the widest part of the river, even given the name of "Cooper Lake." You can watch long barges traveling up and down the river in the spring and summer and hear the distant sounds of the coal shoot and railroad across the river. In the fall and winter there are bald eagles who fish in the open area of the damn beside the next town downriver and many can be seen while taking a walk outside the cottage. There is so much to see in Historical Nauvoo, and the downtime in the cottage is just the right ending of a busy day and a cheerful and relaxing way to start a new morning. See the moon over the river in the middle of the night and the shining blue of the river when you sit up in bed in the morning. Again, Valkommen!
  • There's absolutely nothing the host could do more in making your stay comfortable . The sunset across the Mississippi is breathtaking from the front porch! Cant wait to come back

  • After 10 days of travel I felt like I had arrived at an oasis. The secluded location was perfect for my needs. Everything was clean and the room was well-appointed. Brad and Deanna welcomed me into their home as if I were an old friend. Evenings spent on the patio watching the Mississippi River and a scattering of wildlife were calming. If I ever needed companionship Bentley the dog was happy to oblige. I loved it so much that I extended my stay three times.

    Angela2018-09-20T00:00:00Z
  • This home was great. Brad and Deanna made us feel welcome, as well as our two dogs. Plenty of space for the dogs to stretch out and explore outdoors. The back patio was great, with views of the river. They gave us a great recommendation for dinner as well as some things to do locally. The room was so nice, with attached bathroom and sitting room, coffee maker, refrigerator, snacks. Highly recommend!

  • Was a great place to get away with my friends for the weekend. We all had a great time, and the house was much bigger than we thought it would be. There was a bit of a bug problem, but we expected it to be because no one probably stayed in there for a while.

  • We looked at Nauvoo thinking we wanted to stay right in the city to get the full experience. Well, the city is quite dead at night, and this place was a fabulous enhancement to our stay. With views of the Mississippi but a secluded, forest-like cabin setting, it was great for our kids. Notwithstanding its rustic location, the inside was refined, well appointed with updated touches, and simply beautiful. Very clean. I highly recommend this to people/families looking to come to Nauvoo.

  • An outstanding property! Definitely the nicest in the area with a gorgeous overlook of the Mississippi River. There was ample room for our family of 6 plus my mother in law for our Nauvoo trip. The kitchen is well equipped, the Living Room is large, & unlike most of the houses in the area, there’s a good amount of space for the kids to run around. The swings overlooking the river were a nice addition. The A/C worked great & cooled well on those hot days. The house itself is up a semi-steep gravel road. We didn’t have any trouble getting to it with our SUV. A small car would have more trouble but still doable. Because of its height, this property itself would never get flooded. However, part of the road between Nauvoo & this property had the river rise up & over it during our stay. It’s the highest they’ve seen the flooded river in a decade & there is a longer back way around to the city we could take so it wasn’t a big deal. Actually having a 2-3 mile stretch where we drove right by the river to get home was very scenic. Overall an outstanding place perfect for our needs.

    Mike2019-06-01T00:00:00Z
  • It's a beautiful house in a gorgeous location surrounded by a beautiful garden and woods! We felt so comfortable as soon as we walked in. The kitchen was well-stocked with enough items to cook meals with. "Luxurious" is not a misnomer for this house! I had forgotten that Carole had given me her phone number. It takes longer to communicate through the app, but she replied fairly quickly through her direct phone. There are the quaintest houses on the same road, so it was fun to drive past them on our way back and forth from Nauvoo. The location is closer to the historic parts of Nauvoo than I expected. Unless you don't have a car, it's only about 5 minutes to the one end of Main Street. As a bonus- this house is located across the street from the Nauvoo Mounds Cemetary! It's an exciting introduction into the ancient history of the USA that most Americans don't know about.

We are quite proud to be stewards of this historic home. The house was built by Gen Samuel R Curtis in 1850 and served as his family home until his death. President Lincoln both dined and stayed overnight in this home as General Curtis was a key figure in his administration and the Union war effort. Funds from guests are applied back into the estate to aid with restoration and preservation efforts. Longer stays are discounted!

  • We enjoyed our stay here. The suite was quite spacious, extremely clean and quaint. I love the beautiful quilts. Great main street location, close to everything. The views are great, and we absolutely loved it, and loved the price! We will keep this place in mind for future gatherings in Nauvoo. Alberta would be a great place for a smaller family or Grandparents, and the neighboring Canada would be great for a family with several kids. With that in mind, you would need to be okay with and used to the sounds of family nextdoor. Both suites open up to a nice sunroom gathering spot.

  • Gleydy will take great care of you.

  • Gleydy is such a wonderful woman! She will take the BEST care of you, treating you to the best breakfasts you will ever eat! Her vast knowledge of Nauvoo is priceless and her home is simple adorable! She even made my husband and I cake to celebrate our birthdays!❤️

    Tiffany2019-07-28T00:00:00Z
  • Gleydy went above & beyond expectations in hosting us! She knew we were coming to Nauvoo to see the pageant performnce -- we did not anticipate that she would reserve great seats for us earlier in the day and then take us to them upon our arrival!! We did not expect breakfast but she had that lined up each morning. Gleydy was very helpful with local tips and suggestions. She is originally from Brazil and has taken to heart the Brazilian saying "minha casa e' sua casa" (my house is your house). We felt more like family friends than paying customers. The room itself was nice ... and larger than I anticipated after reading the word "cozy". Nauvoo itself is so small that any location is a good location. We would stay with Gleydy again in a heartbeat!!

    Marshall2018-07-29T00:00:00Z
  • Gleydy's place is perfect for your Nauvoo stay. It is a lovely home that adds character to your visit. We loved learning from Gleydy; she makes great food, is very accommodating, and quickly becomes your friend. The room and bedroom were cleaned daily, and her breakfasts and recommendations were excellent.

    Aleni2018-07-25T00:00:00Z
  • Gleydy is the consummate hostess! She stayed up so late to give me a tour and let me in. She offered her food and kitchen and was so gracious. You will not be disappointed.

    Noël2018-07-15T00:00:00Z
  • This was a delightful place to stay! Gleydy is incredibly generous and fun to talk to. She made us a lovely breakfast and told us all about Nauvoo. The cottage is lovely and it’s a quick drive from downtown. I truly can’t say enough good about my stay there! I’ll definitely be booking again!

    Heidi2018-06-23T00:00:00Z
  • If you are looking for a charming place to stay in Nauvoo, then Gleydy's place is it. This home is lovely and is down Parley's street from Old Nauvoo. There's not much to eat in town so you might want to stop in Keokuk before arriving if you are ending up in town coming from somewhere else. Take the scenic route along the Mississippi River!

  • Great host. Wonderful location. So much charm in such a cozy little cottage. The breakfast was very delightful. Host gave great tips as to the area.

  • Great location! W/D, and full kitchen very handy. Upstairs shower a bit cold, but the downstairs one works fine. Plenty of sleeping space for a family of 8.

  • Perfect location for a Nauvoo stay. Appreciated the cozy beds/bedding and ability to cook our own meals, although I was impressed with the number of dining options in Nauvoo. Tip for others - there is WD 40 for the creaky doors. Upstairs shower doesn't get as hot as downstairs shower.

  • Great location! We loved the quaint little home. It was perfect for our family! The beds were comfy!

    Kristy2019-07-06T00:00:00Z
  • Tons of space. Perfect for a large family. Easy to cook and bathe, etc. Everyone had a bed, which is almost impossible to find anywhere. Loved the antique feel of the house. Conveniently located. The washer and dryer were much appreciated. Fun house!

  • Brad and Deanna are lovely people; their place is clean, just as described and located on beautiful property. They were very responsive to messages for same day check-in, had a place to park our Harley for the night and brought extra coffee out while we enjoyed the scenic river view. Everything was clean and the room had many interesting decorative pieces. They gave us a dinner recommendation that was fabulous. We frequently go through Keokuk on motorcycle day trips and would stay here again.

  • The location is beautiful and very peaceful. The views of the river were stunning. The beds were extremely comfortable and we were able to get great rest. Everything is as described so there were no surprises. Clean, comfortable and convenient. But the best feature of this place, by far, is the hosts. They were so kind, accesible, and friendly. They genuinely cared about my experience and looked for ways to make it better and more comfortable. I would definitely consider staying here again if I’m ever in the area.

    Sergio2019-07-27T00:00:00Z

The Browning Suite has two queen beds, two full-size beds and a private bath with shower/tub. The White House Inn is a lovely home built in the 1850s, recently updated. Centrally located in Nauvoo town center, within walking distance of all venues. The Inn has three suites with private, full bathrooms, (extra bedroom is available). The main floor has full kitchen with breakfast pancake fixings on hand. Guests share the kitchen facilities, and patio hot tub, umbrella table, gas BBQ & fire pit.
Your room is spacious and includes WiFi, Cable TV, alarm clock radio, iron and ironing board are available, a full-size bathroom with combined tub and shower, and if needed, extra towels can be requested during your stay. We suggest the Webb Suite, which is immediately next door, for an extra bed if needed. Charging outlets are available.

  • A delightful place to stay, with spacious accommodations and quaint decor that adds to the historic feeling of Nauvoo. You will not be disappointed!

    Donna2019-12-01T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great stay at The White House Inn. The location is excellent for touring Nauvoo. Wayne’s instructions were perfect and we didn’t have any problems. One of the little things that was a huge help was having a water filter pitcher in the fridge. It seems like a little thing, but it was so nice not worrying about bottled water. Maybe I’m picky about water but some places it can be hard to drink the local water if you aren’t accustomed to it. Overall, a great, easy stay.

    Janelle2019-11-24T00:00:00Z
  • A nice and clean place to stay. The host was very responsive to any questions we had. Plus it was a nice touch when we notified him we were arriving late that he left the porch lights on for us. Appreciated the pancake mix and breakfast too. The next time we need a place to stay in Nauvoo we'll definitely stay here!

    Chad2019-11-10T00:00:00Z
  • The White House was perfect for our large family gathering. We appreciated Wayne’s thoughtful hospitality.

  • This was a great little place very close to the Nauvoo Temple and sites. We had a fantastic stay with plenty of room for our family of 8 (in the Browning suite). It's a charming old place, but clean and nice. We will definitely stay there again if we come through the area again.

    Sean2019-10-11T00:00:00Z
  • We loved our visit here! We were in the Browning suite and it was very clean and comfortable with more than enough room. It was wonderful to meet other people staying here in the common kitchen area. Charming little home ! We would stay here again!

Pelican Pegs has a very relaxing atmosphere. It is situated on an acre of land surrounded by tall shade trees, which gives it an air of privacy. The Mighty Mississippi River is 50 feet from the house, giving a panoramic view from the large decks. The room is set up for 2 people (my limit) with one king size bed.

We have snow in the winter, the river partially freezes over and the Bald Eagles come to feed in the spots of open water. They can also be seen in large numbers perched in the trees along the Great River Road. Spring brings blossoming trees, multi-colored wild flowers and mushrooms. Lush green landscapes abound in the Mississippi River Valley. Summer abounds with river activity, warm weather, and a multitude of festivals in all the surrounding towns. Fall is Gorgeous! You will see lots of colorful fall leaves along Mississippi River Drive in Iowa and Illinois. Montrose Iowa Official Website (URL HIDDEN)
  • My jhusband and I celebrated our 45th wedding anniversary with Pelican Peg and her cat, "Smokey" in their delightfully charmingl cottage on the banks of the Mississippi. We were welcomed as cherished family members. The residence was quaint and adorned with whimsy and a cheery beach house theme. Our quarters were private, cozy and comfortable. Mornings were sweetened with a leisurely tea, delectable homemade breakfast, the rumble of passing trains and the hum of barges on the water. Peg was a passionate advocate of area sights and sent us exploring with the spirit of Mark Twain. The time flew by and we parted ways rested and refreshed with memories to keep us company, until next time!

    Steven2019-11-03T00:00:00Z
  • I've done many an AirBnB review in my time. How to quickly distinguish this one from most in a single line? Peg's place is the ideal couple's retreat. Personally I think her secret weapon is Smoky the kitten cat. We were visiting relatives serving in Nauvoo. After reading the reviews and Peg's description, we decided her place was worth the 35 minute one-way drive. Peg has lived on the river her whole life and in this home 40 years. She loves the relative seclusion of her location and loves to share it. We are all the benefactors of her love of decorating. I'm reminded of what I'm sure was an off review that claimed Peg's breakfast was nothing to write home about. Rather, speaking of home, we were still working on Peg's breakfast at our dinner table an hour ago after driving the six hours home. Peg lovingly led us out to the patio for two of the breakfasts and we're glad she did. The room and bed are as others have described it. Yes there's a train that comes through between 11:30 PM and 2 AM only a 100 yards from the house. I'm a light sleeper, but the train is early enough in the night that I went right back to sleep on those occasions that I heard it at all. The quiet modern air conditioner is local to the room and allows you perfect control. I had the best run of cumulative nights' sleep at Peg's place in memory. Get ready to have your picture taken to be inserted in her guestbook next to your entry. That's the kind of host you're dealing with. In my skimming of some of the guestbook entries, I noticed several repeat guests. One couple has been coming for eight years.

  • This place cannot be missed. Sitting in the ample shade, sipping lemonade and watching the life of the Mississippi River a few feet away is amazing. Peaceful and within a short drive of incredible fun and historic sites makes it a certain winner. Peg's hospitality and friendliness is top-notch. Be sure to have time to relax ...

    Michael2019-07-31T00:00:00Z
  • Staying at Pelican Peg's felt like visiting a beloved relative. Peg went above and beyond to make me feel at home, from allowing me to drop off baggage a week early to driving me to the train station in Fort Madison. She even insisted on treating me to dinner at a fantastic BBQ just down the road! This was, by far, the best experience that I have had at any kind of bed and breakfast or guesthouse, and when my wife and I return to Iowa, we will reach out to Pelican Peg. I want my wife to experience true Heartland hospitality, and no one provides it like Peg.

    Craig2019-07-28T00:00:00Z
  • My wife and I enjoyed our stay at Pelican Peg’s. Location is to die for and we had perfect weather. We drove into Nauvoo each day for activities and wish we could have just spent more time at Peg’s right on the water. Great breakfast each morning too!

    richard2019-07-25T00:00:00Z
  • I just can’t say enough good things about Peg! She was so knowledgeable about the local area that we rearranged our schedule to see more. Her breakfasts were plentiful and delicious. The day of our departure we had a flat tire, and she pulled out her pump and called to find an open shop. In addition, her home is beautifully positioned right on the Mississippi River. We enjoyed breakfast outdoors watching boats go by. Our private area was spacious and clean with a king bed and our own bath. JUST FABULOUS!

    Jessie2019-07-22T00:00:00Z
  • Very nice place to stay. Peg is very thoughtful and I enjoyed spending time talking with her. House is right on the river and has s really nice view and space to go outside and relax. Would definitley return.

This loft in a quaint country barn offers balcony views of a sunrise over the meadow straight from your master bedroom or a night sky full of endless stars. The second bedroom offers a full size bed with additional overhead bunk. DISH T.V., WiFi, a well stocked kitchen, and a country breakfast of eggs, toast, butter and coffee are provided...all in a quiet neighborhood about 8 miles from historic Carthage, IL and approximately 25 miles from Nauvoo, IL or 25 miles from Macomb, IL.
I had to change my original summary of why this space is unique after hearing reflections of guests....seems like the country lane that dips into the hardwoods rising out to reveal a hidden neighborhood filled with nature's tranquility. A variety of wildlife are often seen enjoying the habitat. Staying at the barn is like all the benefits of camping along with the benefits of a good nights sleep!
My home is down a secluded lane nestled in the hardwoods with 2 other houses that are owned by family members. This community is very safe as throughout the day a variety of family members are keeping an eye on things. Because the area is so secluded it is a great escape for the hustle and bustle of the city. That is probably what guests seems to appreciate the most ...the tranquility and simplicity of this locale.

  • A hidden gem! We were greeted at check in and shown our loft. She even brought us a heater in case we got cold! The space is very clean, open, and inviting. The fresh herbs on the balcony saved our dinner. The grounds are beautiful and the on site cat was super friendly! I highly recommend this.

  • Jen was incredible! Well worth the cost. Gorgeous home near scenic lake.

    Pierce2019-10-02T00:00:00Z
  • We enjoyed our time on the top part of the barn. We have 2 teenage boys, and brought two camping cots, but with the top bunkbed and couch, they could have made it work. It is a very large space which was great for our family. The house was very clean and the kitchen had everything to make our dinner and breakfast. The location is beautiful, just off a lake. We attended geodefest in Keokuk, and it was a 25 minute drive, but worth the savings and the quiet. We will do it again next year.

    Matthew2019-09-29T00:00:00Z
  • If I could give this place 10 stars, I would! Jennifer's place is just like the description says. We had a beautiful time. The beds are comfy. The property is lovely. We enjoyed boating on the lake. We loved having a fire in the fire pit. It was easy to find. Jennifer was an amazing host. She is very friendly and communicates well. I highly recommend. She treated all of us like family.

  • The space is nicely redone inside, don't let the outside turn you away, the inside has been redone nicely. Nicolas provided easy access and was very timely with the check in information, responded to questions quickly and represented everything honestly. The space worked perfectly for our vacation! Thanks Nicolas!

  • Great open floor plan for the apartment size. Close to convenience stores for quick shopping. In downtown Nauvoo and walkable distance to historic sites, but still probably need to drive if have kids. Beds were comfortable. Very clean. Good size kitchen. The outside of the apartment building looks really outdated, but everything inside the apartment is new and nice. At the present moment...this apartment would NOT be good for someone who cannot do stairs. There are steep stairs to get to the 2nd floor apartment. However, I would stay here again.

  • Staying at the White House was one of the best decisions we made on this trip. From our first communication all the way to the end of our 5 night stay, Wayne was there to make our stay as comfortable and enjoyable as possible. He had the hot tub and barbecue grill all ready to go when we got there. There were farm fresh eggs for us in the kitchen. The beds and pillows were just right. Entrance was simple and secure with a code. The location is central to everything. Wayne made great suggestions about places to eat and things to do and see. We attribute the quality and success of our trip to Nauvoo, in large part, to having had Wayne as our host at the White House and the terrific accommodations he offers. Will definitely recommend this place to friends and family!

    Marti2019-10-22T00:00:00Z
  • Wayne's place is a charming old home. Our room was comfortable, nicely appointed and super clean. The kitchen was well stocked. Although it was too cold to be outside, the back area is really inviting.

  • Jordan’s place is outstanding. Cause it has a ton of space sleeps so many people at one of the best prices in town. It’s clean and comfortable, with nice updated bathrooms. Walking distance to the temple, historic sites and restaurants. Great value.

  • The Red Front Suite was perfect for our trip to visit family in the area and for our children and grandchildren to all stay together. It is located in the hub of Nauvoo and you can park on the street right outside the door. The rooms are good-sized and the beds are very comfortable. The bathrooms have been renovated and are nicely decorated. We had one small problem with the batteries in the thermostat and Jordan answered us promptly and came right over and took care of it. We would like to come back in nicer weather to walk around and enjoy the town.

  • The place was a lot larger than I was expecting, and very clean as well. Expect to get a leg workout getting up there though!
