Places to stay in Kawhia
Amazing location and pet friendly. You will not get closer to the ocean unless you are swimming ! Close to Waitomo Caves and Bridal Veil Falls. The 3 bedrooms may be small but the view is what you have come for. There is safe swimming and good harbor fishing. No free wifi until local reception improves, mobile coverage is limited but you can call/text/mobile data from the "Magic Spot" in the Bach. If you want a true Kiwi beach bach experience, you have just found a hidden gem at Aotea.
Clean and cosy cottage with your own access and off street parking. Motel quality linen is provided and there is a great little fire for those winter nights. Enclosed verandah and deck are great places for the pets and children. Enjoy balmy summer nights on the deck watching the sun go on down. Full cooking and laundry facilities along with two kayaks and two sun loungers.Great two family space with two parent bedrooms and a bunk room for 4 kids.Good range of dvd's, cd's and board games for those wet days.
Aotea has friendly locals (close to 40 !!) who wave back. Kawhia,(10 mins away), has a pub, cafe, fish and chip shop, general store and petrol station. Iconic Oparau Store is only 17km away. Area is great for the serious athlete looking for challenging roads for cyclists/runners and safe, against the tide, harbour swimming. If you want the true Kiwi Bach experience with a laid back lifestyle, you have found it.
  • Fantastic waterfront location, cute and clean Bach with everything we needed. We loved our stay here.

  • Outstanding spot, a reminder of days gone by with the kiwi bach. Great place to unwind, clear your mind. Fantastic beach walks for dog. Will definitely recommend for a group get away, though on your own is bliss.

  • Once again a wonderful stay at Debach...it is the most beautiful place and met the needs of 3 generations brilliantly....Mel and Geoff are great hosts and Debach is just fabulous ...we were very sad to leave.

  • Well sometimes I stumble across a place which is so really great that I don’t want to share. Da bach is one of those gems. It has all the amenities but without being fussy. The location makes it hard to beat. The hosts do a great job! Well equipped for hanging out

    Christine2020-02-04T00:00:00Z
  • Aotea is a peaceful little village, super dog friendly, which is a lovely plus. The bach itself has a great view with the sea set against rolling black sand dunes, and the enclosed deck is a sweet spot to eat a late dinner and watch the waves. We'd definitely recommend driving to the hot water beach in Kawhia - you don't often get to experience a beach like that so quiet.

  • Beautiful home with beautiful views. Great place to unwind and relax. Freaked out a tad bit upon reading the fact that there is a compost toilet after I’d made the booking but was pleasantly surprised that it was flushable. Very comfortable home right next to the water, coming from a busy city life it was the best place to unwind, have a few beers and catch up with friends. Extra blankets and towels were extremely convenient and so many different places to have a nap haha. 10/10 would recommend and will also be returning

  • What a brilliant location this is. We couldn't have asked for a better setting. This is a part of NZ we'd never been to before and it is very special. Would highly recommend you spend several days here, especially if you need your batteries recharged which is really easy to do in this quiet scenic spot, many thanks Geoff and Mel for sharing your piece of paradise with us, Peter and Jenny

  • Great guy, good place

    Pauly2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • A very clean unit with everything you need. Henry was a lovely host, ready to help with anything. He provided a BBQ and also some wonderfully fresh snapper - yum! Aotea is an extremely quiet settlement and very peaceful. The only downsides were that the unit wasn't right on the water and the bed is against the wall. We had a lovely relaxing time in a beautiful part of our country.

    Margaret2020-02-21T00:00:00Z
  • Cool place. Great view of the sea and sand dudes from the deck. Cheers!

    Andrew2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing location off the normal path of tourists. Some of the prettiest ocean sunsets I have ever seen. Highly recommend a night here.

    Dylan2020-02-08T00:00:00Z
  • Henry is very kind and lovely, and his place is just 20 min away from the hot water beach. The sunset is beautiful as well! It was a really relaxing stay and perfect place to recharge after our flight. Our son did not want to leave!

    Kaye2020-02-05T00:00:00Z
  • Super genuine, helpful and friendly host. Very comfortable amenities and beautiful location. We loved our stay and will be back.

  • Truly spectacular location, amazing hosts and "the best beach holiday" my grandson has ever had. The fresh snapper was both unexpected and so good. Thanks Henry and Bev for a truly memorable and wonderful holiday. If you ever get the chance to go to this gorgeous spot - dot it - you wont regret it!

Escape the hustle and bustle; relax and unwind in the sleepy harbour town of Kawhia. An easy 2.5 hr drive from Auckland. Kahurangi cottage is the perfect accommodation in Kawhia from which to explore the area. You can drive to Waitomo caves in 1.5 hrs away along a scenic, winding road. Ocean beach is 5 km away, where you can soak in Te Puia hot springs at low tide. Kawhia is known for its annual Kai festival on Waitangi weekend and whaleboat racing on New Year's day.
Fresh, clean and cosy. A relaxing getaway. Fully self contained with good cooking (stove, oven, fridge/freezer, microwave) and laundry facilities. Heater and electric blanket for winter.
Kawhia is a special place, it is the spiritual home of the Tainui people and nestled in the beautiful Kawhia harbour. It is 5km from Ocean beach where you can enjoy Te Puia hot springs at low tide. Ask us for a spade to dig your own spa pool on the beach! There are some lovely bush and beach walks in the area.
  • The lovely cottage has a great viewing area and we enjoyed the stunning scenery of the ocean on one side and the hills on the other (choose whatever you prefer just by turning around a table :). The house has all the necessary amenities, plus a variety of cereals and coffee for a good breakfast to start your day. We were deeply touched by the warmth and hospitality during our visit and hope one day to come back to this magical place.

    Victoria2020-02-28T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage was lovely - great spot and views. Well equipped, very comfortable, and with great extras like a plate of plums and very tasty cookies! It al added up to a great weekend with friendly hosts. We'll be back.

  • Kit and Di’s cottage is so lovely. They are both such wonderful hosts. If you’re wanting to book this super accommodation, make sure you stay at least two days! We will stay a week next time. Very relaxing. Rob and Philippa

    Robert2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • My partner and I loved staying at Kahurangi Cottage. We just loved the place as it was perfectly furnished and supplied, super clean, had an excellent bed and linens, and just so cozy and adorable. Upon arrival, you’re greeted by beautiful plantings, a white picket fence and potted flowers right at your front door. Character-plus! The location, the views, the cottage itself and all the amenities were just perfect for our weekend in Kawhia. It’s lovely and quiet, overlooking a rural view on one side and most of Kawhia on the other side. One of the highlights was watching a daddy quail and one of his chicks amble across the front deck, chattering away at each other! Kit and Di are lovely and friendly, and love hearing about your visit at the end of your stay. Can’t wait to visit Kawhia again and will definitely book in at Kahurangi Cottage!!

    Lyn2020-01-27T00:00:00Z
  • A lovely quiet location only 5 minutes walk from the township. The accommodation was sparkling clean with everything you could possibly need. We really enjoyed our weekend at this lovely spot.

  • Kawhia is a magnificent spot and Kahurangi Cottage is perfectly situated to everything, just a few minutes walk to the harbour. The cottage is delightful, very clean and spacious. Kit and Di were very friendly and we really enjoyed our stay.

Our home sits high on the hill with stunning water views across the unspoilt harbour. Every room has access to a deck to enjoy the outdoors. The property has 2 bedrooms inside the main home with a cabin as the 3rd bedroom. It has room for your car and boat, with easy access to the ramp for fishing. It is a quiet space to relax in the sun or under the umbrella. We have a collection of games, books and DVDs for your use.
Escape the city life for a bit of peace and quiet. A gentle coastal walk to the village to experience homemade scones, coffee and tea. A short drive or walk to Kawhia Ocean beach and experience the natural hot pools. If fishing and diving are your passion there is plenty to offer with charter boats from the wharf or bring your own boat and get into it and of course there is always the famous ''KAWHIA FISH AND CHIPS '' from the local cafe you can try to demolish, good luck on that one!!. The local pub is always a bit of entertainment as well as the fishing club both have good food and always a cold beer or two.
Kawhia is a quiet village with a population of 650. It is one of the most beautiful regions in New Zealand with its unspoilt harbour.
  • Brent and Paula's place is located close to and has great views of the water. There are several decks to hang out on. Their house was very clean and made for a relaxed stay!

  • Amazing place with an amazing view. Would highly recommend

    Ben2020-02-21T00:00:00Z
  • Brent and Paula’s house is spotlessly clean and very comfortable. The view is to die for. It was difficult to drag ourselves out of bed as the bedroom had a duel aspect view of the bay. Ocean Beach is amazing a real must, but check tide times. Would definitely recommend

  • Relaxing, enjoying. Lovely, unique place. Elle is so charming host. The only bad thing was that we didnt have time to stay longer.

    Virpi2020-02-15T00:00:00Z
  • Elle is a cordial hostess and has everything in order. We felt at home there.

    Leen2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • If u seek sanctuary and u like a peaceful natural setting, with space and quality indoors as well, don't hesitate to book Elle's place. If you're not at all familiar with the area, be sure and communicate in advance with Elle about your needs as it is a small town rural area. I absolutely loved Elle's home and property. Get out of the car and beach walk, swim and explore Kawhia.

    Brandy2020-02-02T00:00:00Z
  • Very nice stay in a beautiful house. The host was very friendly and helpful. Highly recommended this stay.

    Emilia2020-01-31T00:00:00Z
  • Elle was an excellent host; she had coffee waiting for us upon arrival, fresh eggs for breakfast (from her backyard chickens!), a dog and cat who are kind and affectionate beyond words, and what’s more, she gave us some excellent recommendations for our upcoming trip to Auckland and tipped us onto a sulphuric hot spring at a nearby beach. 10/10 would recommend this lovely idyllic Oparau getaway.

    Choo2020-01-30T00:00:00Z
  • Elle is a lovely and very accomodating host and her place is comfortable, relaxing and full of character. We highly recommend her place!

  • Elle’s home is comfortable, beautiful & peaceful! So nice having the animals around for extra nice company. Made a great dinner & enjoyed a game of pool! Thanks Elle, we’ll be back.

  • We were in Kawhia at a great time, when it wasnt too busy and we were able to enjoy the DIY Hot pools at Ocean Beach, walked around Aotea Beach and even a trip to Raglan for the day. But mostly, enjoyed relaxing at the lovely house. My daughter even tried her hand at strumming the lovely guitar on the stand. (a most lovely touch!) Thank you for a good week at your place, Moira.

One of these things is a beautiful bush/stream walk (on our property) down towards the cliff/ocean, to a huge old Puriri tree where you can have a picnic. You’ll walk through the field, then through native bush and down to the stream, past a waterfall and then to the Picnic tree. The walk will take you 10-15 mins to get there and it’s a moderate level with downhill/uphill sections. It’s absolutely beautiful so we definitely recommend giving it a go. • We really enjoyed this getaway! It was just so peaceful and we found some new places to see thanks to the great local tips. It was also fantastic to be able to bring our wee pup. Thanks so much for the wonderful visit.

    Leo2020-02-25T00:00:00Z
  • Such a cute space! We felt totally secluded out on the patio, though the pine trees that add to the privacy detract from the view. This space has tons of character and thoughtful touches. Book this place for a bit of peace, there is no cell signal and the wifi is a bit of a hike. There is a limited kitchen, but don’t miss out on the yummy food offered down the road in Raglan. I would highly recommend.

    Beki2020-02-18T00:00:00Z
  • Remote location in a very unique area. Raglan is a great place with many hidden gems. The local tip shit was very resourceful when it came to finding things to do.

    Bryon2020-02-13T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful spot in a forest, offering a complete back to nature experience, I would definitely stay here again. The Love Nest is small but perfectly formed with everything a guest needs and the large deck was a magical place to sit and bird watch!

    Rebecca2020-02-07T00:00:00Z
  • Was a really nice getaway spot! Very peaceful and private. Had lovely little touches that made it feel homey and special. Would definitely visit again!

    Keegan2020-02-02T00:00:00Z
  • Incredible, highly recommend for the environmentally conscious! It’s so quiet and you feel so secluded. Definitely hire out the e-bikes, such a great time! Some amazing views further up the road too

    Tim2020-01-29T00:00:00Z
  • Fantastic, cute little place away from everyone. Not to far to drive into town but far enough to feel isolated. A great place to stay for a weekend away!

    Joshua2020-01-27T00:00:00Z
  • The cabin is an amazing place to get away from it all for a few days. We enjoyed our stay and will try to be back as soon as possible! It is super cozy, really isolated and private, and has everything one needs. At the same time it's not too far away from Raglan, which we found to be one of the coolest cities in northern New Zealand. Definitely recommended!

  • Stayed at Teresa’s place for one night while on our road trip from Wellington to Auckland. Would have loved 💕to have spent more time in Raglan & at Teresa’s place, it was so charming & delightful. Teresa was so thoughtful & met us at check in & check out. She had snacks for us which was nice treat after long drive. Would definitely liked to have had more time & would have loved to have spent more time at Teresa’s place, not walkable to dinner or shops but perfect for what we needed & we had car. Enjoyed the little walk to Lorenzo Bay this morning & sunrise from patio was superb 😊

    Colleen2020-03-08T00:00:00Z

  • Wonderful farm stay. Will definitely stay again if I come out that way. The cabin is perfect. The property is gorgeous. Rowena is lovely, as is her dog Maggie and Dolly the lamb. Recommended.

    Trevor2020-03-17T00:00:00Z
  • Spacious, private, pretty cabin with lots of colourful touches inside and out. It's homely and comfortable and in a very peaceful spot. Wasn't sure how the outside shower and toilet would be but they were private, fine and fun to use. There's a fab hot water beach 45 minutes drive down the road which was great fun to build our own hot pool at low tide - thanks for the loan of the spades and also for the delicious breakfasts Rowena.

    Kelvyn2020-03-12T00:00:00Z
  • Super cool location and great accommodation. Awesome place to stay! Rowena is an excellent host.

    Bill2020-03-05T00:00:00Z
  • Definitely my best Airbnb experience. Rowena was super cool in any way, and the charming cabin is located in a remote, quiet bush. It has unique stuff like outdoor shower, or wood fired bake ovens. We also loved the encounters with animals and plants there. One night wasn’t enough at all.

    Aki2020-02-27T00:00:00Z
  • Rowena was a warm welcoming host and we recommend visiting Totara cabin to experience just what can be achieved by someone prepared to do that little bit extra to make their visitors stay more special.

    Stewart2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful setting. Excellent breakfast. Enjoyed our hot outdoor shower. Loved the stars, the river, the eels and the relaxation.

    Jane2020-02-22T00:00:00Z
  • Thank you Rowena for your warm hospitality. Some special highlights of our stay were the fresh eggs in the basket, the personalized tour of your property and the most liberating shower ever! We truly enjoyed ourselves in your paradise. Good job and God bless.

    David2020-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • This place is amazing ! Just what one needs to relax from the crazy life we live in. The cabin is adorable, has everything you need and is very cozy. The outside deck and bbq/pizza oven are overlooking endless nature. The outside shower and toilet really bring the experience to high levels ! Walk down a small hill to the river and cross the beautiful bridge and you could even discover a thoughtful Disney hideout home :) Rowena was helpful and lovley throughout. The home made breakfast delivered to your door was great aswell. Highly recommend!!!!

My place is close to fishing, local gallery and museum, cafe, childrens park, walks. You’ll love my place because of the fantastic views, the ambiance, the location, great fishing, geothermal hot water spring (dig your own) . My place is good for couples, business travellers, families and outdoor people will appreciate what this location has to offer.
My place is so relaxing and the great decks are just made to enjoy the amazing views from breakfast right through to dinner. Its a get away from it all relaxing haven... or... a fishing, walking, exploring adventure place. The house is modern with a fantastic very well equipped kitchen with a dishwasher so no-one has to take turns washing up! There's also a washing machine for you to use The diner is part of the lounge/kitchen so you can enjoy conversation while entertaining. This also leads out to the surrounding deck The Lounge/diner has Aircon for your comfort and leads out to the front deck so no matter what the time of day you will always have a sunny spot. There are 3 spacious bedrooms all with built-in robes and queen beds and also 2 single beds can be accessed for the 7th & 8th beds These are stored under the Queens.
The tranquil harbour views. Why I purchased the house was for its superb views .I can go in most rooms and have a lovely view.I feel like I'm on top of the world!
  • Such an amazing place with everything you would ever need at a beach house! Accommodated 6 adults and 2 children easily. Spectacular views to top it off 😊 Jan the host is also great to deal with and very accommodating with whatever you need.

  • Very clean with a beautiful morning and afternoon view of the sun and the ocean. It is located hours away from supermarkets so you might want to get everything you need before you get there. Overall very satisfied with the home, especially the kitchen which was very well equipped.

  • This is a wonderful, spacious place, great for our group of 7 with fabulous views! The open plan works well and there is plenty of place to spread out and relax. As the weather was kind, we also enjoyed the deck. The kitchen is well equipped and the beds are comfy. Definitely a place to try out! Thanks Jan!

    Trish2019-10-14T00:00:00Z
  • Fantastic location and gorgeous home. The views are breathtaking and you can spend all day watching the ocean. The pictures don't do it justice. The host was absolutely lovely.. but a bit hard to get in contact with. Make sure you make arrangements to get the key before getting to Aotea as cellphone reception makes it even harder.

  • David and Haylee’s place was a great retreat from the hustle and bustle of a holiday.

    Tory2020-03-03T00:00:00Z
  • David and Haylee's place is incredible! The view is amazing and the space is very cozy. The shower is great (felt like being under a waterfall) and the bed is super comfy. Would definitely recommend if you have a car and want the option of being near enough to Raglan to enjoy the shops and cafes, but also far enough away to enjoy some peace and quiet with a beautiful view.

    Jess2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • Off the beaten path and well worth it! We loved enjoying some time in the countryside—and with an incredible ocean view! A quick drive down to a quiet beach was certainly a highlight and included the opportunity to watch some surfers on the magnificent waves. Probably our favorite thing was grilling and then enjoying dessert on the viewing deck while watching a perfect sunset over the Tasman. Haylee and David were perfect hosts, and we wish them the best of luck with their winery!

    Jordan2020-02-19T00:00:00Z
  • A beautiful, clean and well organised space. We loved the champagne deck looking out over the ocean. This was a wonderfully relaxing and refreshing weekend destination.

    Steven2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • A remote, coastal retreat off the beaten track. Private and stunning views with the beach, bush, hiking or town just a short drive down the back roads of Raglan away. The room and amenities are well attended to, tidy, clean and of quality. The bbq provides an alternative option for cooking in the calm evenings with the viewing platform placed perfectly for evenings of wine and sunsets.

    Jessica2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing views on the vineyard, a bit of a drive outside of Raglan but worth the views!

    Luke2020-01-27T00:00:00Z

  • I woke to the sound of a bird call orchestra and then had coffee on my private deck. This space was so cute and comfortable that my only regret was not staying longer. Joni's place is a short walk from town and very close to the Karioi Bush Walk along the Karioi Bay. I would absolutely stay here again.

    George2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • This is a lovely place to stay if you are in Raglan, very homely and perfect for 2. Its a shirt walk from the 23 bus stop. Joni was a great host, she had lots of tips about raglan and let us check in early, she also let us stay past the check in so that we could wait in comfort for a coach, such a thoughtful host.

    Zoe2020-02-14T00:00:00Z
  • Cosy, funky space with a great deck. Joni’s little flat had everything we needed for a few nights in Raglan. Short walk to Lorenzen Bay for a swim or a quick drive into town. Very private, even whilst sharing the property with hosts (and potentially other air bnb’ers). Very happy with our stay and value for money. Thanks Joni!

We had a very relaxing time taking advantage of the deck, big dining space and comfy lounge. Walking distance to shops and the pub and a couple of minutes by car to ocean beach - though we saw people walking it! Great spot in a fabulous little kiwi town.

  • The Raglan Pod is set in the bush with partial sea views. It was sparkling clean , modern and comfortable. Great bed sheets and super hot water. The decking outside is a lovely seating area but not suitable for young children. The TV is for Netflix only . The Pod is a short drive from Raglan and near to beaches. Cheryl communicated regularly and was most helpful.

  • A beautiful light filled modern place set above tree ferns with the sea in the background. It really does feel like staying in a tree house. Close to Raglan which has many quirky shops and a wonderful Artisan bakery. Would certainly stay there again

  • My husband and I loved our stay in Raglan and the pod was a perfect spot to say just out of town with a private swimming spot but also just a short drive to the amazing food and coffee options. The view is great from the pod and mornings are beautiful with the natural light. We particularly loved the access to kayaks and spent a day out on the water!

And this was the perfect place to do this. A very cute, serene space. Very quiet and private yet handy to town and the beach. Cheryl was great to communicate with making it all so easy. Our house overlooking the town will charm you with its warm exposed beams, cozy and functional ambience with breathtaking views of the town. Located 10 mins from Waitomo Caves and easy access to Marokopa waterfall, beaches, Mt. Ruapehu and Lake Taupo. About 1 min walk to the wonderful bushes and 5 mins to Kiwi Bird Park from our home and 15 mins walk to the town. Please park on our concrete driveway and not on grass as it belongs to our neighbour. People from all cultures are welcomed here :)
Our place is really peaceful as we have quite neighbours and we both are working so you will have the house to yourself most of the time. You can watch movies on Netflix in the lounge and make yourself at your own house. You can see most of the town from here and the lights of the town look amazing at night. We can provide you some space in the fridge if needed. Relax on the deck and enjoy the tui birds singing native songs on the trees. On a clear day you can see Mt Rupehu( Tongariro National Park) from our place. Our house has 1 bedroom for airbnb couple (max 2 guests) and there is also a separate room for more than 2 guests. If 2 guests need a separate room each they can either confirm before booking or book for 3 guests. Please park on our concrete driveway and not on the grass as its a neighbour property.
The atmosphere of our surroundings is really peaceful and quiet. You will feel relaxed after a long day. We love our little slice of heaven as the view from the deck is amazing and the nice breeze refreshes you. Lush green forests, native trees and lovely birds are here to welcome your stay!!

Our house is a 1960's cottage that has had been elevated for the view and had a large entertaining deck added to the front. Two sets of french doors open onto the large covered deck from the open plan living, dining & kitchen space. From the deck you look north across the harbour to the sand dunes and Mt Karioi. There is a bedroom off the hall which leads to the bathroom and rear entrance. The larger second bedroom is located downstairs and is not accessible from inside the house. The kitchen area is equipped with most cooking, and dining requirements including Microwave, Oven, Nespresso, Fridge Freezer with Ice maker, Bread maker, Toaster, Sandwich press. Note there is no dishwasher, you gotta go old school, or get the kids to do them. Lounge. Large corner suite and coffee table, TV, Netflix, Freview, Blu-ray, Bluetooth connectivity. Bathroom/Toilet. • A beautiful home with the most amazing views. Great shower, comfortable beds and well equipped kitchen. We spent lots of our time on the deck watching the tide coming in and out. It was peaceful and the neighbours were really friendly. John’s communication was first rate from the directions to the local amenities. We hope to come back next year.

    Anita2020-02-14T00:00:00Z
  • Fantastic such a great spot. John is very helpful and we couldn’t have love it more.

  • Well worth the drive as you arrive to secluded paradise. The views are spectacular straight in front of the batch. Wonderful walks along the beach. Fantastic balcony to sit in the sun, read a book or enjoy a feast sitting at the large table. Great to have a fire to keep cosy with and a huge snuggly couch. A lovely touch to have a bottle of wine waiting upon our arrival. Throughly enjoyed our stay.

  • Amazing getaway location! Come and relax on the deck for ansmaxibg view of Aotea! The water is a stone’s throw away from the deck!!

    Jaimee2019-03-03T00:00:00Z
  • Aotea was such a wee surprise. Quiet and calming. Johns Bach is amazing, so comfortable and the view from the deck is relaxing and beautiful. The quirky and cool decor made for good conversation starters and Marley the kitty was so friendly. The Bach has everything you’d need and I’m just disappointed that I didn’t bring any coffee pods!! They aren’t sold at the lil store in Kawhia. It was so lovely just crossing the road to go for early morning and late night swims. Wish I could live there!!

Come & enjoy a relaxing stay in our piece of paradise on Moonlight Bay. Delight in the beautiful panoramic water views from your own seating area or the top deck. Continental breakfast included, with G.F. option available on request. Self contained with tea & coffee, a fridge, hot plate, electric frying pan & microwave. Within walking distance is a quiet beach area where guests can enjoy swimming, the use of our double kayak, various fishing spots or a coast walk to the wharf for fish & chips.
We live on site and are happy to help with any requests guests have. We are a 4 minute drive from the centre of Raglan, or you can walk along the shore line, when the tide is right, to Raglan Wharf or further on into the town. The flat is north facing, often sun drenched, warm and comfy, attached to but totally independent from the house, with its own view, access and outdoor seating area, so your privacy will be assured. There is ample parking on site and a large deck on the property that guests can have the use of should they wish to. The area we live in has its own, private beach area available to residents, which adds to the attraction of Moonlight Bay. If you are looking for a place that makes your stay just that little bit more special, then you won't be disappointed. In the 2 roomed flat there is a TV which plays DVDs and a selection is available, as are some books, jigsaws and games. There is a queen sized bed in the main room and a single bed / couch in the other room, with a pull out trundled bed underneath. Please let us know when you book whether you would like to use the kayak. We also have lots of info about Raglan, and have put a mini arts trail together for you to enjoy. One of our hobbies is wine making, and we make a lovely Moonlight Bay Pinot Noir and Sauvignon Blanc using the delicious Mount Karioi mountain water. Free tasting available on request. :) We offer a flexible check-in and check-out time because we know that everyone has different needs and we have never liked the pressure of having to arrive or leave within a limited time range. The only time we will ask that guests keep to specific times is if we have other guests arriving that day. We do request that guests leave the flat in a tidy condition as we do not charge a cleaning fee. Rangimarie means peace in Maori and was named long before we had the pleasure of moving in, but suits this spot to a tee. A place to rejuvenate, relax and let sitting watching the ocean work its magic. Whether on the deck with a glass of wine or down by the waters edge. Raglan is a wonderful spot to visit. It has excellent cafes, restaurants and galleries and also evening entertainment on most weekends. It has a music club once a month where locals and visitors can jam the night away. A thriving art scene is also worth exploring, whether it be jewellery, sculpture or something more contemporary - we can provide information for you to browse. Not only renowned for its surf beaches Raglan also has many wonderful walks that cater for all abilities, evening cruises, caving and lots of fishing spots, it even has a skateboard park for the gromits. It is worth taking the time to explore everything Raglan has to offer.
  • Gorgeous spot, comfortable accommodation, great all round experience

Welcome to our little piece of Ragladise! Enjoy the bush and the snippet of sea views. You'll enjoy the quiet, private location. This quirky small home has everything you need to make your stay a comfortable one.
The apartment is on the lower level of the house next to the pottery studio (there's a separate tenant upstairs) and faces north into the bush with lovely afternoon sun. There is one large bedroom, plus one tiny room with single bed if needed. All double glazed to beat the summer heat during the day and keep you toasty in winter. The apartment has lovely afternoon and eventing sun. There's tons of native bird life to sit and watch too. We stock you with all of the basics, including toilet paper, tea, local coffee and fresh milk, as well as bedsheets, towels extra blankets etc. We're a couple of minutes drive from the point breaks, and a you can walk to the beach (Ngaranui) via the sheltered bush track in 30 minutes, or drive there in 1 minute. You can even find your way via the track to Solscape for vegan brekkie and woodfired pizza if you're a navigation genius. Please note, we just rent out our home while we are away, so it has our personal belongings. Please be respectful, but make yourself at home! *If you look at the older reviews on my other listing, you'll be able to see what previous guests thought of the space :)
We're on lovely Upper Wainui Road, between the beach and the point breaks. The neighbourhood is quiet with lots of native bush and bird life.

Park, disconnect and relax in this cute and private standalone sleep-out/caboose in the dunes at the back of our house. Your own indoor toilet and shower with hot water will make your stay even more comfortable and enjoyable. You'll look out over Raglan's beautiful beach and estuary. At low tide, you can walk into town over the beach. There is also a bike/walking track right next door through the pine forest of the Wainui reserve.
There are no cooking facilities with this unit, but there are a kettle and some basic crockery. You can cook outside on your camp stove. There is a comfortable queen-size bed with plentiful pillows with linens and towels provided. The bed fills up most of the area, but there is enough space to bring in your bags etc. We recently added a bug screen on the window and a fly screen at the door, drastically reducing the number of bugs inside the unit. We welcome all diversity and are LGBTQI friendly. If your party consists of more than 2 people, we can consider a tent or van parking on the lawn for an additional fee.
This neighborhood is adjacent to the Wainui reserve. It is generally quiet and we have friendly neighbours. We respect our beautiful environment, and are happy to share it with our guests.
  • Beautiful little place to escape and recharge your batteries. Ella and Charles are wonderful hosts and give you amazing tips on whT to do and where to eat. We would definitely recommend them!

  • We loved our stay! The caboose accommodation is adorable and so cosy, its on a slight hill just up from the main house. We checked in after dark so woke up to a pleasant surprise of a beautiful beach view. Our hosts were friendly, hospitable, and even gifted us some eggs from their free range chooks. It was a great location too.

    Ivan2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • Very cute little caboose with ocean views. Super cozy bed and Ella and her partner were great hosts!

    Katherine2020-03-04T00:00:00Z
  • Super friendly host. And what a location! Right on the beach, with the most incredible sunset views from the cosy cabin. Great value for single or couple travellers!

    Wil2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • These guys are phenomenal. My husband and I booked two nights here as a getaway for our 30th birthdays and it was just INCREDIBLE. Best location - midnight walks on the beach, early morning sprints into the ocean - and the wee caboose is awesome! Filled with gorgeous natural light, a comfortable bed (I have back issues, so this is a must and it passes the test) - this Place was perfect. We are buzzing. Can’t recommend this wee seaside gem and their fantastic hosts enough :)

    Courtney2020-02-07T00:00:00Z
  • That view and the sound of the ocean as you sleep... great

  • We loved our stay in the Barn... it was perfect get together for our extended family group of 9. The Barn is so cool, rustic, homely, with clever little touches. So peaceful and loved being able to walk up the hill and feed the eels in the creek. Thanks so much for the amazing breakfast, especially the croissants!!!

    Jo2020-02-22T00:00:00Z
  • If you want to discover the country side of new zealand, a peacefull place where you can be surrounded by nature & animals. Thank you Rowena for this beautiful experience. Thank you for the excellent croissants. Amazing night there, too short Kids loved there

    Kihi2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • Of all our accommodation throughout our big family holiday road trip around the North Island, my family was most charmed and delighted with The Barn. It was such a special place to spend our last night on the road, with so many thoughtful touches. Our group included middle-agers, teenagers, and a kindergartener, and there was something magically wonderful for everyone, from the rustic candle chandelier to the giant swing chair (big enough to curl up and sleep in) to Pooh's House and feeding the eels. The quiet stillness at night and the star-filled sky were a treat. Rowena brought a gorgeous breakfast and is an excellent host. We loved The Barn!

  • Excellent stay! The house looks smaller in the photographs but in reality it is spacious and has an excellent use of spaces. We were apprehensive about the fact that there was no stove in the house but Wendy has two electrical appliances for cooking. We couldn't ask for more, a calm space, surrounded by nature with all amenities, extremely clean and even toys for our baby. Thank you so much Wendy!

    Ana2020-03-05T00:00:00Z
  • Cute place to stay on great scenic property but still very close to town & amenities!

    Nathan2020-02-27T00:00:00Z
  • Tucked in the garden up on a ridge, this cottage has everything you need for a restful stay near Waitomo. Close to the town of Otorahanga, it was easy to nip down for dinner and come back to a lovely space in which to relax. There was beautiful fog in the morning if you're up early, and lots of beautiful cows grazing nearby. No wifi, but easy enough to get by without it for a short while.

    Ariane2020-02-21T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great stay and would highly recommend the Secret Garden Room for anyone visiting the Waitomo caves. Wendy and her family immediately made us feel welcome and comfortable. The room is set in a very quiet area and every window has an incredible view. The place is very clean and has everything you need. We particularly enjoyed breakfast in bed whilst watching cows outside the window!

    Hannah2020-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful, private and spacious cottage located less than 15 min from the famous Waitomo Cave. Wendy and Christina are amazing hosts, they provided us with everything that we needed, and made us feel at home! They also gave us plenty of tips on places to visit. Highly recommend this amazing place, one of the best Airbnb places we stayed at!!!!!

    Elena2020-02-15T00:00:00Z
  • This charming cottage is set in the most beautiful surroundings with outstanding views over the local countryside. The cottage itself is decorated to offer a space which is both comfortable and relaxing. I especially liked the map on the wall showing where all Wendy’s guests had travelled from. Wendy’s family gave us a lovely welcome and were brilliant at telling us about the local area.

The place is spottlessly clean and much better equipped than other accommodation that you would have to pay a lot more for. We would definitely come back any time if we could!

  • Highly recommend to stay for 2 nights and prearrange a farm tour from Miranda, it’s a tour you could probably not able to experience in somewhere else.

Fully equipped kitchen, leaving nothing wanting, and full use of a washing machine, good wifi and a very welcoming host. I would recommend this B&B to friends and family travelling in the area.
