  • Such a cool spot and unique accommodation. Really enjoyed my overnight stay

  • It was as beautiful as the pictures. And we were so well welcomed. Really loved spending time in this tiny bus house and we just wish we had stayed longer.

  • Bianca was awesome! Spent a night here after day hiking Mt Cook. Peaceful, quiet place to rest our heads. Bathroom not directly on the “bus” but just a short walk and fully renovated/clean! She sat outside with us in the evening, chatting and playing with her pups!

  • Unlike anywhere we’ve ever stayed before — totally unique accommodation, abounding in friendly animal life and human company. Lots of special touches and the wood-fired tub was the absolute tits. This place alone is reason enough to escape to Kurow — a place we probably never would have had cause to explore otherwise. Appreciated Andrew’s tip to travel back to Christchurch via Hakataramea Valley Road — the scenery was stunning and hardly a soul around! Highly recommend.

    Cory2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • This has to be one of the coolest places I’ve stayed through AirBNB! Bianca and Andrew are lovely and so welcoming, with a stunning property.

    Robert2020-02-15T00:00:00Z
  • Warm, inviting, rustic experience. Bianca prepared an excellent breakfast and allowed me to confirm the stay last minute. Highly recommend for a unique, remote stay as advertised.

  • A hidden gem in Kurow. You would have such an amazing experience here!

    Kien2020-01-12T00:00:00Z
  • Bianca is a lovely host, as she made sure she was there upon arrival. I enjoyed her company, lovely meal and the wine chosen by Andrew. I felt very welcome on there premises. You stay in the really cosy bus, and use the bathroom facilities in the main building. It is a wonderful place to sit back, relax and enjoy all wonders nature has to offer (including cuddling with the lovely dogs and cats that come by). If I could have stayed another night, I definitely would have!

  • Unique, quirky property in a stunning setting near the mountains, but not far from the small town of Kurow. Hosts welcoming, but also allowed me to have my own space in the private part of the property. Bianca offered French ice cream on arrival, which was delicious 😃

  • Bianca and Andrew are such a lovely welcoming couple. They truly are a real asset to the land, the gardens, flowers , animals and the history. The space is wonderfully decorated with such warmth and character, it felt like a home away from home. Thank you. The feel and Vibe here is absolute zen. And the out door Japanese hottub under the tress and moon - bliss. Will be back hopefully many times. Thanks again guys. You don't know what your place has done for me 💕 10/10 recommend .

Sunny, private country cottage with cosy sleep-outs, a large section surrounded by old pine trees, an old orchard and rambly roses. Our tiny house is just a step up from camping but definitely reminiscent of easy-going holiday times in rural NZ. No T.V. Just lots of games, mags and books. It's all about deck chairs, lazing in the hammock and lawn cricket in the summer and hunkering down by the fire in the winter.
We fell in love with this small collection of tiny cottages and have been tidying them up for holidays over the past few years. The spaces are small and humble but comfortable and private and can accommodate a surprising number of people as required. The main cottage is fully equipped with kitchen, living room, double bedroom, laundry and bathroom. There are two external huts, one with bunks and the other with a double bed. If you book for 3 or more people, please note that the hot water cylinder is a bit small and takes 40 minutes to reheat if used up. We are surrounded by big old trees and whilst it is only a stones throw from the town, you feel like you are in the countryside.
Kurow is a classic small New Zealand rural town. The amenities are perfect for easy holiday plans. A small supermarket, several hotels, rural supply stores , 2 cafes and 2 eclectic gift stores provide everything you need (nearly). It is on the A20 Alps to Ocean bike trail, has a 9 hole golf course, a growing wine tourism industry and is 45 minutes from Ohau skifield. There are tennis courts at the local school and endless scope for trekking and outdoor and water pursuits. We are surrounded by lakes rivers, mountains We recently like to call it the 'rugby tourism capital of the world' as the home town of the "greatest rugby player ever", Richie McCaw!! What we love most about Kurow though is that we can enjoy all of the above and the fantastic climate and scenery without any of the crowds that populate some of the better known tourism areas.
  • Great spot for the A2O trail, and arrived after a very long ride to find fresh milk and bread, v. thoughtful touches! Very quirky little place - fun to stay on our trip.

    Eleanor2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • A delightful one bedroom country home with 2 huts accommodating 6-8 people. Very welcoming host and special extras like homemade jams and flowers. Quiet area just minutes from the Main Street and lovely walks. We loved our stay.

  • Kurow is a gem, and this little cottage is a gem as well! A good find, like a step back in time. Very clean and tidy, with nice touches for the guests. We'll be back.

  • This is a great wee spot. We absolutely loved it here. We have 3 boys 11 and under who loved the bunk room and spent a lot of time at the bike park just around the road. The teenager loved having a wee hut to herself. Charlotte's place is sparkling clean and perfectly charming.

    Justin2019-02-24T00:00:00Z
  • A delightful Airbnb, who knew a converted woolshed could be so special. Bianca met me as soon as I arrived and showed me around and introduced me to the only other guest who was staying that night and we had a good old yarn into the evening as travellers do when they meet each other. Lots of space in the house and the room, very comfortable bed, all amenities were readily available. Such a beautiful view across the paddock when I opened the curtains the next morning. Also a very beautiful drive to get to Kurow. I wished I was staying longer to enjoy the space and the view and soak up the serenity.

    Diane2019-01-20T00:00:00Z
  • Bianca and Andrew are very enthusiastic, their life feels very comfortable, the house is very comfortable, there is a feeling of being at home, living very comfortable, the space is very large, the toilet is more, the kitchen utensils are very complete! The house is very clean, the yard is very large, and there is a feeling of pastoral life. Living here can release the feeling of stress in the heart! Great!

  • Beautifully renovated post office turned to a house with an old world charm. We had a very comfortable stay in the house and had access to all the amenities. The kitchen is stocked with enough pots, dishes and cutlery and the rooms were cosy and well appointed. There are cafes and petrol stations close by and the house is just off the main highway (but far enough to be quiet). Had a good stopover. Would love to come again!

  • This property is a MUST if you are visiting New Zealand. After two weeks living in a camper van, my friend and I were so thrilled to spend an incredible comfortable night glamping here. We spent hours in the tubs overlooking the valley, ate dinner with some awesome locals, and slept like babies (even through a thunderstorm). It was such a treat spending a night here and we can't wait to go back!!

    Hallie2020-02-18T00:00:00Z
  • Our glamping experience at Amber’s and Patrick’s place was simply phenomenal! The tents are so beautifully designed and everything feels incredibly luxurious (and don’t even get us started on the views!) We are first time campers (and travelled with a 2 year old toddler) and were curious about the shared bathroom facilities but it was nothing to worry about because every corner of this amazing place is sparkling clean and so well looked after. And what a reward to walk the few meters to the common area at nighttime: stars, millions of stars, just magical!!! We opted for the dinner at night and it was delicious as! Breakfast was super yummy too and the NZ toaster definitely an experience of itself. Not to forget the little piglets who said hi during meal times, so cute! We would give 10 stars if possible and all we can say is do yourself a favour and book a tent and experience it yourself! A-MA-ZING!!!

    Arthur2019-12-29T00:00:00Z
  • Amber and Patrick’s igloos are absolutely delightful. They went above and beyond in welcoming us and making sure we were comfortable and well taken care of. The views from the site are better than any picture. I especially enjoyed the hammocks in the woods where you can be serenaded by birdsong. Loved it.

    Juli2019-10-31T00:00:00Z
  • The location is TRULY amazing, beautiful and peaceful and i would highly recommend this if you have been living in the city. Though, to be prepared to be living with limited electricity and a little cold at night. The entire experience was really great though and i enjoyed the hospitality and dinner i ordered. The breakfast prepared was 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 too. Everything was clean and neat, including the toilets! Thank you patrick and amber:)

    Charmaine2019-10-25T00:00:00Z
  • This is such a special experience, glamping on the rolling green hills so quintessential to New Zealand. Super comfortable. Sitting by the fire with a glass of NZ wine as the sun sets was pretty special. Patrick and Amber are wonderful hosts, very knowledgeable and kind.

    Adam2019-10-07T00:00:00Z
  • We loved our stay here in the beautiful surroundings. The baths were epic and Amber and Patrick were absolutely amazing hosts!

    Rebecca2019-09-28T00:00:00Z
  • Very memorable and fun one night! New Zealand in September is still a bit cold, especially at night, but Patrick has tried everything to warm up the guests, so if it is not very cold and chilly, it is really recommended to come to this experience for one night. Patrick is a very intimate and loved pure landlord, and his wife has two lovely dogs. The tents are clean and distinctive. It’s a pity that when you come over, you can’t see too many stars, but the accommodation itself It is a very interesting experience, recommended!

    Joyii2019-09-10T00:00:00Z
  • Valley Views Glamping is a must - just book it! Its such a wonderful place to stay - the most peaceful sleep you will ever have, and the views from outside the domes are just phenomenal, the photos just dont do it any justice. The place has everything you need and is perfect for couples and families. Amber and Patrick are fantastic hosts, making you feel right at home, providing you with tips and can organize activities for you such as horse riding, which we had a blast doing. And absolutely book in the home cooked meal - so delicious that my partner and I felt blissfully drunk and full. Highly recommended and would go back in a heartbeat.

  • My partner and I had an amazing stay, Amber and Patrick were so hospitable and welcoming and the entire place is beautiful and immaculate - be sure to get up nice and early to catch the sun rise!

  • Amazing place, fab hospitality: Amber and Patrick are both lovely people and great hosts. The location is beautiful and the domes are well presented, stylish and roomy. The outdoor baths are amazing, and the home cooked meal by Amber was absolutely delicious. Would highly recommend Valley Views Glamping, we will definitely be returning! Loved it from start to finish :)

  • There’s nothing to say but just a word ‘SPECTACULAR’. It is quite far from the city center but if you want to experience Mother Nature, I highly recommend this place. Even though there was no electricity(except the one generated by solar panel), everything was equipped very well so it was much more comfortable than I expected. In case of toilet and shower booth, they’re to be shared but super clean so no worries:) You can just smell and listen the Nature sound and see star gazing night. I’ll definitely stay here later!

  • Very good stay, a rare experience! Close to paradise, great views and great food! Thanks Amber and Patrick

  • What a wonderful experience we had at Amber and Patrick’s beautiful glamping set up! The tent was stunning, the baths were relaxing and the 3 course dinner was delicious. Cannot recommend enough- a must do if in Otiake or surrounding areas!

  • Absolutely amazing stay! Thank you very much! Even moved us to a private tent when they found out it was our honeymoon! Lovely hosts, great chat and amazing accommodation. The beds were amazingly comfortable and we loved Relaxing in the baths and watching the stars. Ambers cooking is delicious and we definitely recommend the 3 course meal added extra. Thanks Amber and Patrick, we will be back!

  • The whole experience was like none other. After a two week road tripping around the South Island this was the perfect two nights to wrap up our New Zealand trip. Amber and Patrick were so friendly, kind and helpful. They made a conscious effort to make sure we were enjoying our stay and the home cooked meal option was delicious. We loved being able to chat and learn all about the area as well as their story. Such a great couple! The tent itself was incredible, each night we went to sleep and watched the sunset from our bed and the moon rise up above - completely surreal. The rooms are stylish, comfy and unlike anywhere else we have stayed. Given the opportunity - use the outdoor baths!! We loved them so much we had more than one a day, it’s so peaceful and the scenery is beautiful. All in all, this Airbnb is a 12/10. You can feel the love and effort that has gone into it and if you’re looking for the perfect getaway and experience - this is it.

  • Stayed here for a couple of nights on Our honeymoon to break our journey up back from south to north. Was so glad we did! The location of this place is outstanding, gorgeous views especially as the sun rises! Amber and Patrick are incredible hosts, the food they cook is amazing with quality local wine available to purchase for a good price to. A must stay if travelling the South Island.

Welcome to our little house in Kurow, situated right on the Alps to Ocean Cycle track. It is north facing so catches the morning sun really nicely, we have set it up to make your stay as comfortable as possible. It has a private courtyard area to relax in at any time of the day, also a lovely big back yard which is fully fenced and great for the kids to play while you have a relaxing time. There is also a covered area just off the kitchen , great in all weather.
A big garden surrounds the cottage. inside is a roomy lounge with a kitchen just thru the large doorway. four very comfy beds and one and a half bathrooms. there's a sunroom just off the kitchen great for relaxing in out of the sun or wind.
Kurow is a unique country town, It has the amazing Waitaki River just meters away and the picturesque Hakataramea valley ( where Richie McCaw grew up ) just over the new Waitaki river bridges. Just a short drive up the Waitaki valley (10 min) , is the first of the three lakes, Lake Waitaki, followed by Lake Aviemore and Lake Benmore . These lakes offer an oppportunity to discover the great outdoors and are an amazing playground for water sports, hiking fishing or just taking in the incredible vistas. The Alps to Ocean (A2O) cycle track passes right past the cottage driveway. The Kurow village is just an easy 5 min stroll down to the shops and cafes to discover what Kurow has to offer. There a several places to find that first coffee of the day, Two hotels to choose from, a pharmacy, gift shops, post shop, golf course, 4 square, local wineries, a very well informed info center and museum, couple of garages, vet, and rural supply stores. The local garage sells fishing gear and licences . Something for everyone.
  • A cozy cottage in the heart of Kurow. The house is well equipped and offers a lot of living space. Steps away from groceries, restaurants, bike trails and hiking. Highly recommend!

  • Kathryn's house in Kurow is a comfortable and welcoming place to stay. All the rooms are well-presented, sparkling clean and practical. We especially appreciated the use of the coffee machine, the kitchen has everything you need and Kathryn added thoughtful touches such as providing chocolate and apricots from the garden. There is a lovely garden out the back too. And, being located on the Alps2Ocean trail is an added bonus.

Located on the main highway 5 mins from Kurow Village, 1.5 hours from Mount Cook and 45 minutes from Oamaru township. A private studio apartment in a peaceful spot with a wonderful outlook.

An unconventional property in a rural setting; a magical place from which to explore North Otago. Perfect for two people seeking the simple side of life in comfort. The cabin is located on my lifestyle block where I live with my large and friendly dog. I keep chickens and grow too many vegetables. The cabin is detached from my living spaces and you have your own private compost loo just a few metres from the cabin door along a level gravel path. Horse-riding, cycling, walking, fishing locally.
Ti kouka is Maori for the cabbage tree which grows outside the cabin. The property comprises six distinct buildings. The main space is the kitchen/dining/bathroom and in a former life it was a truck. My sleeping cabin and your sleeping cabin are both perfectly conventional bedrooms and there is the guest loo, located next to the workshop and garage, as well as my study / studio at the back of the property. The guest sleeping cabin is fully insulated and snug, with a queen-size bed, electric jug, tea and coffee (on request) as well as an outside deck with table and chairs. It also has a heater for chillier winter evenings. A short gravel path links the guest sleeping cabin with its own private compost toilet. In front of the guest cabin is the cabbage tree from which it takes its name and a lawn with a hexagonal picnic bench. Around and about are raised vegetable beds and the chicken run. On either side of the lawn are the larger buildings. The dining/bathroom area includes al fresco sunken baths. Reaching this area from the guest accommodation is a gently sloping gravel path and five steps. The shared bathroom, which is accessed from the dining room, has a conventional shower and another compost loo. On the other side of the dining room is the kitchen which is very small and where I make myself busy for much of the time. The entire property is set in an acre of sustainable organic food gardens within the beautiful rolling countryside of North Otago and with views to the mountains beyond. There is no mobile phone reception anywhere on site which is a fantastic way to switch off and relax. There is, however, unlimited internet access available in the dining room whenever you want to switch back on again. The silence caused by lack of phone jabber gives ample opportunity to listen to the song of the bellbirds and to watch the fantails.
Cabbage Tree Cabin is the perfect base for exploring the beautiful and varied North Otago countryside. Horse-riding is available locally; ideal for complete novices or beginners. It is on an individual basis (one rider at a time) with a former riding school owner who will lead you around her farm on her quiet and well behaved horse. You will be on private tracks where access is not otherwise possible, so you will see amazing views of the landscape and have the opportunity learn about farming in North Otago. There is a separate charge for this activity. Oamaru is only 25 minutes away by car. There you will find cafes and restaurants as well as any amount of shops. It also contains the world famous Steampunk HQ and has its very own penguins and fur seals. The Moeraki Boulders and Fleur’s Place restaurant are 50 minutes’ drive. A choice of beaches and river mouths are a 30 minutes' drive. Swim-holes in local rivers are also close. More locally you will find Elephant Rocks; and the Waitaki River, its lakes and tributaries are great for trout and salmon fishing. The Alps2Ocean cycle trail passes just 6km from Ngapara. There are other cycling and walking tracks aplenty straight out of the gate, or within a short drive. I will be happy to provide more information about all these activities upon request.

  • Amber and Patrick are the ultimate hosts! It is clear that they put so much love into the space and enjoy meeting all of their guests. Staying in the domes is such a unique experience. Comfortable beds, gorgeous views, and complete privacy. The shared kitchen allows you to interact with other guests and return to your dome when you are done socialising. It is a really special place. Highly recommend.

  • While booking the place we did have an inkling that the experience will be different given the nature of the accommodation. And different it was ! Most wonderful things are simple at their core and Valley Views aligns perfectly to this definition. The acco is indeed special. Patrick takes special care to make one really comfortable and feel at home. The location is mesmerizing - we were in for an unusual summer which resulted in the valley being covered in a veil of mist ! The hot bath experience open to the nature was a special experience. Having two dogs and a couple of pigs just added to the charm and the overall experience especially for our girls. We hope to be back again !

  • We spent the weekend here for my birthday & it was just amazing! All the little touches just added to the trip, the dome was perfect and very cosy. Amber and Patrick were very helpful and went the extra mile. The baths are just an extra touch and it’s worth spending time here. Couldn’t have asked for a better weekend! Would highly recommend staying here.

  • Really a highlight of any trip around the South Island. A nice stop off between Wanaka and Mt Cook. Amber and Patrick showed exceptional hospitality, welcoming us with dinner, wine, and beautiful views. It was great to get to know them. And where else can you soak in a bath in a forest? Can’t recommend more highly!

    Sarah2018-01-03T00:00:00Z
  • Big surprise, the beauty of the lotus tent, lovely couple, delicious breakfast, warm blanket, too fond of, I hope there is the opportunity to experience.

  • This place looks amazing on paper, but it far exceeds your expectations. It is camping immerced in the purest of nature but with 5 star Luxurious coziness! From our gorgeous tent we had private, perfect unobstructed views of the hills for miles. Sunrises, sunsets and stargazing was out of this world. Amber and Patrick are wonderful hosts and could not do enough for you. Their hospitality was second to none. We'll be back next season!!

Travel distances from Otematata: Christchurch 300km; Oamaru 95km; Twizel: 40 km; Omarama: 22 km. Approximately 85 mins from the Ohau skifield. Otematata has been a popular holiday destination for generations - home to a number of "cribs" or holiday houses, many being built in the 1950's to house workers constructing Benmore Dam. The township is becoming more popular as the larger holiday resorts of Queenstown and Tekapo become more crowded. The resulting lakes following construction of the Benmore and Aviemore Dams provide fabulous recreation opportunities such as mountain biking, skiing, hiking, climbing, four wheel drive trips and geology. In the Waitaki valley, summers are hot and dry, autumn and spring are crisp and sunny, and winters are cold and snowy.

This cottage on SH 83 is set back from the road and has been used for many years as a family holiday home replete with board game cupboard and family memories. One bedroom has been locked off as is still in a state of renovation. This means the front door cannot be accessed. Main access is from the back deck and through French doors to open-plan kitchen/living. There are no curtains in the open plan space which looks out onto vacant farmland. Full insulation and log burner ensure a cosy stay.
There are two toilets - one in the bathroom and another in an outhouse by the wood piles. Outbuildings are locked and used for family storage. Cooking is by gas. The outdoor bath is heated by firewood and filled by hose from the roadside tap. Full instructions are inside along with a compendium of local attractions. No laundry facilities available.
The Cottage is located between Duntroon and Kurow on the A2O cycle trail, Vanished World Trail, Waitaki River fishing and water sports, Kurow and River T Wineries, lakes, tramping and multiple historic attractions
  • If you are looking for an escape to the country, then this is it! Very sweet cottage with a huge deck for outdoor living, a great outdoor fire place ( as well as a new logburner indoors) outdoor bath and perfect location between Kurow ( cafes, shops, pub, supermarket) and Duntroon. As I said two of the most beautiful lakes, doc walking tracks, Oahu ski field, and omarama glider flights down the road

    Aviemore, OTA, New Zealand

A13 is a recently refurbished self-contained one bedroom unit in the Lakeside complex. The apartment has superb views of Mt Totara and across the golf course is Lake Aviemore. It is on the Alps to Ocean cycle trail and there are many walks nearby. Summers are hot and dry, autumn and spring are crisp and sunny, winters are cold and snowy. Otematata's population is 200 which swells to 5000 in summer. It's a great base for road trips to nearby towns such as the Kurow, Oamaru, Omarama and Twizel.
A13 is a fully furnished 38m2 apartment located on the edge of the Otematata golf course. There are wonderful views of the golf course from the lounge and of the courtyard from the bedroom . There is a functioning kitchenette, with a microwave oven, 2 element electric hot plate, fridge and small kitchen appliances such as toaster and electric jug. Freeview TV is available as well as internet access, allowing you to use your own Netflix account. The bedroom has a queen sized bed and there is a queen sized sofa bed in the lounge. If you intend to use the sofa bed we need to know in advance to arrange sheets etc.
Otematata is a country town in the Waitaki valley on the edge on lake Aviemore below lake Benmore. It has a permanent population of 200 but in summer can exceed 5000. The Waitaki Valley is an untouched paradise with some of the best scenery in New Zealand. The resort offers a natural canvas of ever-changing seasonal landscapes, particularly with golf course and mountain views on the edge of the resort. Activities include a multitude of walks and cycle rides - one walk we particularly recommend is the Benmore Peninsula track, accessible at the top of Benmore Dam. Nearby are the spectacular Clay Cliffs and world class gliding in Omarama, fantastic blue lakes for swimming and boating, and access to New Zealand's newest wine region, with two cellar doors in Kurow. waitakinz.com is a great website with ideas for places to visit and activities in this region; another website to check out for local walks is the Department of Conservation www.doc.govt.nz.

  • Great Airbnb! Beautiful scenery, serene and quiet and very clean. 1 hour and 20 mins from Mount Cook Village, and close to Twizel (30mins) by car with lots of restaurants. Great value. I would say ideal for 1-2 people. I went as a group of 3, and whilst the bed is comfortable, the sofa bed (like most sofa beds) is an acquired taste. I would 100% recommend this airbnb!

Stay in a brand new luxury cabin in central Duntroon with a king bed, aircon/heatpump, fibre internet and Netflix, walk-in tiled shower and a woodburner for those cosy nights. Styled as a special getaway for a couple, Black Cabin also sleeps two in the living area if required. Stroll 5 minutes down the road to the pub for an excellent evening meal and enjoy the continental breakfast supplied in the cabin in the morning.
Our place was completed in June 2019 and was built to offer travellers a luxurious overnight stay in Duntroon and as a hideaway for our family of 3. It is located in the heart of Duntroon, just 200 metres from the Alps2Ocean cycleway, up the street with the blacksmith on the corner and at the end of a quiet cul-de-sac. It has a little logburner for that essential cosy atmosphere on colder nights, with plenty of chopped wood provided. It also features a heatpump for easy warmth. The air conditioning mode is essential for comfort during the hot summers! The king-size bed features 100% linen bedding. The comfortable daybeds in the living area do double duty as two full-size single beds, with linen stored ready for you to make them up at the end of the day. The bathroom features a luxurious walk-in tiled shower with gas hot water. This space also has a washing machine for guest use. The kitchenette has a microwave, toaster and kettle for your basic cooking needs. We also have a Weber charcoal BBQ that guests can use. However, we highly recommend the meals at the local pub - generous and delicious! Booking is recommended. Takeaways are also available. For breakfast we supply a selection of cereals and canned fruit with milk as well as tea and plunger coffee. The lovely garden can be enjoyed from the outside sitting area, with a view of the neighbouring old church. The garden shed is available for guests to lock their bikes in overnight. You'll receive the key in the lockbox. There is offstreet parking for two cars, plus a caravan plug for charging your EV or connecting your camper.
Only 200m from the Alps2Ocean cycleway as it enters Duntroon and a short walk to the pub, Black Cabin is perfectly located for an overnight stay in Duntroon. Duntroon is a wonderful historic area with lots to explore. The original Nicol's Blacksmith at the corner of the street operates most weekends and is open to view every day. Why not take one of their 4-hour blacksmithing experiences and make a weekend of it, staying at Black Cabin? Right along the road in Duntroon is the Vanished World Centre, an interactive museum dedicated to educating visitors about the unique geology of the area, where you can even excavate your own fossils! Head out from the Vanished World centre with a map of local spots of interest. The Elephant Rocks are a must-see. These incredible limestone formations are beautiful at any time of the day, but we recommend going in the early evening when the low light really sets them off. The Earthquakes is a lesser-known area of limestone cliffs that is well worth checking out too. Pop into the Duntroon pub 10am-late for great coffee, baking, lunches and evening meals and takeaways. There are several excellent wineries just up the valley that offer tastings and food too. The Waitaki Valley terroir makes special wines. Of course we can't forget to mention the Alps2Ocean cycleway, which runs through Duntroon. Even if you're not doing the whole trail, you can use Duntroon as a base, heading to the Elephant Rocks in one direction (1 hour's ride on the trail towards Oamaru) or to the wineries in the other direction (2 hours on the trail towards Kurow). The Maori rock art site is just up the road. The Maerewhenua river and the mighty Waitaki river converge by Duntroon - fly fishing spots abound.
  • We did not meet Emily, but communication was excellent, and we were provided all the information we needed. This worked well. The cabin is brand new, terrifically designed and efficient. We had everything we needed and were comfortable. Parking out front is easy, and the neighborhood is quiet. Perfect. We had the most beautiful day trip to Oamaru. We returned via Windsor and Island Cliff along the Alps to Ocean route along the route of the Alps to Ocean bicycle trail which is a lovely way. We are lazy in a rental car.

Emily was super quick with her responses and exceedingly helpful and conscientious ....have no reservations in recommending this to anyone staying in or passing through Duntroon. Hopefully be back to stay again.

  • Would recommend this place to everyone. Extremely clean & everything you need. Great shower. Very handy too. We used as a base to travel around the dams. Tekapo, Twizel, Otematata, Omarama & Kurow. Recommend stopping at River T winery. What a great wee place. Also the local Pilsner (Hunter Hills) on tap at the Duntroon pub was a great craft beer. Right up there. A BIG thank you to the wonderful hosts 5 STARS all round!

  • The house was perfect for me and my friend, I think it would be a little small for 5 persons. The beds were very comfortable! We had a good stay and it was nice that there were some games available that we could do.

  • Dave and Vanessa are lovely, interested and caring people! After our first day, Dave surprisingly asked us if we want to join them on their boat the next day. So we did! We had an amazing time with them on the Benmore lake, where they gave us the chance to water-ski and have a round on the biscuit. Easy going couple, really friendly and their place is definitely worth visiting it!

Get back to nature and enjoy the peace and quiet of our country getaway in the historic "Little Red School House", just 30 minutes inland from Oamaru. Our B & B is located on our 940 hectare family farm which we run sheep and beef cattle on. The farm is situated over 400m above sea level so has panoramic country views. An early morning or evening walk is amazing for taking in the sunrise or sunset. We are happy to pick up people travelling on the Alps to Ocean Trial. Breakfast included.
Good for a romantic getaway for couples, a country retreat or a solo trip for stress relief. Also a great peaceful spot for writers and artists. The accommodation was once a school in the 1920s so while it has historic notions, it also has a modern kitchen with full facilities, flat screen tv, queen size bed, free WIFI and a washing machine.
Our area is the pinnacle of true country farm living. If our guests choose, with prior arrangement, they can have a taste of the farming lifestyle as we love to share what we are passionate about as the farm has been in the family for four generations. There is a fantastic water hole close by which is great for swimming in the summertime and our roads/tracks are known for some great bike riding experiences. Oamaru which is a 30 minute drive for us offers the famous historic precinct, great walkways, an aquatic centre, Clarks Mill (historic flour mill with original machinery), Totara Estate (historic farm), Oamarus Prehistoric World, Steampunk HQ, Blue Penguin Colony, Ten Pin Bowling and our famous Whitestone Cheese Store to name a few. In the other direction we are only a 30 minute drive from Duntroon which is home to the Vanished World Centre and 45 minutes from Kurow which hosts some great wineries.
  • This is an awesome place to stay for a quiet retreat. The host has thought of everything and all the touches are superb. This really deserves a sixth star. My big mistake was not staying longer!

  • A wonderful nights stay at the little red school house! The house is well equipped with everything you need, and is comfortable and cosy. The location is beautiful, surrounded by green hills and farm animals with amazing views beyond the fence line. Complementary breakfast is provided with the chance that you may be provided with some eggs from the hens! Overall a wonderful stay!

  • What an unbelievable stay at the Little Red School House. Nicola was very welcoming and told us about history of the house. Sitting down on the veranda the chickens came up and said their hello. It was just an allround wonderful stay. Highly recommended if you want a peaceful, clean and well put together NZ country experience. Wonderful.

  • The tent hotel is definitely worth staying. There is everything you need in the tent. The goose down blanket is very warm. Our tent has children's beds, but it is still spacious. The open-air bathroom is definitely going to be experienced, completely different enjoyment, drinking and listening to the wind.

    Li2018-12-27T00:00:00Z
  • Very nice view from the glamping. Amber and Patrick both are very nice and friendly

    Phyllis2018-11-16T00:00:00Z
  • This is without a doubt a stop worth making if you're anywhere on the South Island. Amber and Patrick's hospitality made us feel immediately at home in their thoughtfully appointment lodge and pod. The dome was beautiful and warm, the food delicious, the amenities in perfect condition. A slice of heaven we're lucky they shared with us! Even the drive to that location is fantastic.

    Nazli2018-08-28T00:00:00Z
  • Set for friends! Friends say the tent is too tasteful!

    Jingwei2018-03-23T00:00:00Z
  • Valley Views Glamping is a magical piece of paradise located in the middle of nowhere, so you are entirely secluded from any noise. You will get relaxed as soon as you drive in. The tents are roomy yet cosy with very comfortable beds and decorated with thoughtful touches. There are beautiful outside bath tubs where you can take a hot bath stargazing or looking up to the beautiful pine trees. You can also take a comfortable shower. The kitchen and launch overlooking the valley is stoked with everything you need and more. I had an amazing two days and could have never done this without the help of the two exceptional hosts. They communicated very well, went further than the extra mile to have me and made me feel very welcome. Amber and Patrick will treat you more like a friend than a guest. They have amazing tips on what to do and see nearby and are kind and mindful people. Words can’t describe this delightful place they have created, you need to see it for yourself. Top place to stay at on the South Island, highly recommended to other Airbnb’ers!

    Anna2018-03-05T00:00:00Z
  • Great stay in the tents. A fantastic view and personal touch of Amber and Patrick makes the differences. Is a place you must visit and stay for a night. We stayed two nights and enjoined the quite place and nature. We all loved it, including our 9 year old daughter.
