This part of Somerset is really beautiful and boasts many local attractions such as Wells Cathedral, Stourhead gardens, The Hauser and Wirth gallery and Roth bar in nearby Bruton, the pretty market town of Castle Cary, the Glastonbury festival and the Bath & West show ground. Jake’s Cabin is tucked away in one of the most magical secluded locations in Somerset. Waking to birdsong and with views of undulating hillside and meadows, it provides closeness to nature that melts away the strains of busy lives. Built from local cedar and larch and using only eco friendly and re-cycled materials, this beautifully crafted retreat can be found in a sunny clearing, and protected from the elements by the old oak and hazelnut trees that cast dappled light over its living roof.
Based on our much-loved Gabriel’s Wagon, Jake’s Cabin has more space and an internal door leading to the bathroom that hosts a warm yellow roll top bath with an external door for a bath with a view; It has a luxuriously comfy day-bed with a v sprung mattress and silky soft bamboo bed linen; floor to ceiling windows running along its length and sky lights, so that whether from the bath, bed or from the soft sinking cushions of the old Ercol sofa, you can enjoy the views, catch the sunlight and watch the stars.. Jake’s Cabin has running hot and cold water and electricity and is properly equipped with kitchen utensils, cutlery, crockery, a baby belling hob and oven, Belfast sink and fridge. The wood-burning stove keeps the cabin in constant warmth, thanks also to its high spec draft proof insulation.
A famous footpath up Creech Hill to the site of a Romano-Celtic temple is just nearby with fields offering fossil finding and ancient woodland to explore. In Jake's Cabin, walks are mapped out for you to enjoy to the local Saxon town of Bruton along drovers lanes to visit Houser & Wirth’s Somerset gallery. For foodies, this town is a delight, with Houser& Wirth’s Roths Bar, At the Chapel and Matts Kitchen to choose from. You can also walk to Cole Manor tea rooms, set on the gentle River Brue, or for a longer walk, make your way along the river at Spargrove, to sit beside the log fire in the 3 Horseshoes pub in Batcombe. A half hour car journey will bring your to the spectacular Cheddar Gorge and the Mendip hills and in the opposite direction, Stourhead, with peaceful lake-side walks, and stunning gardens. In the summer, there is Glastonbury Festival, just 5 miles away, and the Bath & west showground offering a constant programme of interest from the Royal Bath & West agricultural show, to Antiques and Collectors shows and the famous Sunday Flea Market. (Please check dates) For a taste of Somerset town life, we are within easy reach of Glastonbury with its quaint shops and impressive Abbey ruins; Wells and its breathtakingly beautiful Cathedral and Frome’s Catherine Hill, fun to visit with quirky buzzy bohemian vintage shops, fantastic cafes and an Artisan Market every last Sunday of the month – all within 10 miles radius. For city life, the magnificent Georgian City of Bath is within 20 miles
  • We had a terrific stay in the cabin. The log fire and view really made this place special. Can’t wait to go back!

  • There’s so much to say about Happy on the Hill that I don’t know where to start. The views are stunning, the cabin is perfect and Neil and Susan are lovely, lovely people. We spent two wonderful nights in Jake’s Cabin, we switched our phones off, took winter walks with our dog Runa, sat by the log burner playing cards, read books, napped and had the best baths I’ve ever had. Book now, I promise you won’t regret it!! Susan and Neil have created a beautiful space with absolutely everything you could need and more during your stay, the only downside was we didn’t book for longer.

  • I am not exaggerating when I say Jake's Cabin was perfect for a couple of stress free days to recharge, read and enjoy the countryside. The cabin is gorgeous and the view stunning. All little touches are very well considered, like rustic fresh bread and homemade jams. The log burner was a welcome reprieve from the horrible weather. The walks were brilliant, despite the mud. We really appreciated the local information provided especially route maps and archaeological reports about sites of interest. We will definitely be back.

  • Another fantastic stay at Jake's cabin! Its such a peaceful and calming environment and you leave feeling refreshed and happy ! The fresh bread and eggs make the perfect breakfast (the plum jam is my favourite!) Susan and Neil are the perfect hosts and we cant wait to come back!

  • Happy on the hill didn't disappoint, had a lovely stay! The cabin was exactly as pictured and the location was great. Slight mishap with the hot water but Neil fixed this promptly and was a great host. Would stay again!

Once part of the milk train that carried churns to Somerset dairies, Gabriel’s Wagon has been lovingly restored. It provides comfort, tranquility, fun and relaxation for a couple to stay amidst its rolling fields and heart-stopping views all the year around. This is as inviting in the depths of winter, as the summer: a suntrap when the sun shines, a magical look out when the rain and snow falls, relaxing by the cosy fire.
There is a big comfy bed and a beautifully crafted kitchen area with baby belling hob and oven, Belfast sink and little fridge. A sweet wood burning stove that lights like a dream keeps the wagon in constant warmth when needed, scenting the outside air with its gentle wood-smoke. Sink into the deep feather cushions of the old Ercol sofa and open the French windows to enjoy the view down to the little village church in the valley below. Undercover of the translucent arched roof, walk out onto the red cedar and larch decking. At one end an old pine door leads to the bathroom that invites you to relax! Enjoy the treat of a cast iron roll-top bath filled with hot running water and privacy to open the door wide if you fancy, to see the view as you let go of all life’s demands. Down the wooden steps is a fire pit and fire wok if you wish to cook outside and enjoy the spectacular lookout spot by day and night. Additionally Gabriel's Wagon offers: •Local ingredients for breakfast •Bamboo bed linen and luxurious Vispring mattress Travel cot available for a babe in arms •Woodburner with logs supplied •Covered verandah with place for muddy wellies & hooks for coats •Bruton town 3 miles away with restaurants, cafes and well stocked shops including The Organic Shop – organic co-operative •A special welcome for your dog with our own Pet Welcome Pack •Nearby off road parking

  • Such a nice little gem of a place. Everything you could want in a countryside getaway. The cabin was extremely clean and well equipped with everything you could want to have a fun and relaxing holiday.

  • This is just the loveliest place to go and spend time, both inside the wagon, the surrounding countryside and following all the suggestions and recommendations in the whole area. We went without a car and got by just fine - a fantastic little holiday.

  • We had a lovely weekend at Happy on the Hill. I hope we can return soon.

  • We are sad to be back from such a memorable trip and stay at Gabriel’s wagon. Truly have nothing to fault - we especially loved the special touches that included homemade baked items and amazing jams, the drawn out map you are given to venture around the gorgeous area and all natural products available for you to use. Unfortunately we only had a chance to meet Neil - who very kindly greeted us late in the evening and helped us feel right at home, very happy to point us in the right direction of where we needed to go to suit our needs. The area was so lovely and we really enjoyed exploring the countryside which plenty of towns nearby to visit. If you have any doubts on whether to book the wagon, I urge you to do it as you simply won’t regret it :-)

  • We had a wonderful time at the cabin!

  • A beautiful tranquil place perfect getaway from all the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

    Mel2020-01-12T00:00:00Z
  • Absolutely fantastic! My partner and I stayed for three nights just after New Year and it was the perfect way to start the year refreshed. The wagon has been beautifully converted inside and out, and has an abundance of amenities making it cosy, comfortable, and a delight to stay in. Susan and Neil had provided artisan bread and cake, milk, home made jam and marmalade and a wealth of other personal touches which really made the stay that little bit extra special - not to mention convenient if you haven't had a chance to go to the shop before arrival! Check-in was lovely as we just notified Susan of our arrival time when we were on our way and she provided instructions to self check-in. Given the cosy, remote-getaway style of the accomodation it was nice to feel self-contained in this manner. We returned from a muddy walk one day and popped over to see Susan & Neil who were in their garden, they were very friendly and a delight to talk to, offering us their warm outside tap to wash our dog down with! We enjoyed going for walks around the countryside right from the wagon's doorstep, then returning to relax by the wood burner - We felt this was a great piece of kit as it was heavy cast iron and ran slowly and steadily on a small amount of wood keeping the cabin warm at all times, even after going out for a meal or walk. Bruton is a 7 minute drive or 30 minute walk away and we enjoyed going for a tasting meal at the newly opened Osip restaurant, as well as take away pizzas from 'At the Chapel'. If you haven't been before it is a small, beautiful village, with pretty much everything you need situated along the small high street. If you are considering this place amongst any others, book this! We had high expectations but they were exceeded in every department, and on the first day we were already looking at summer dates to come back. Many thanks, James, Camilla & Monty

We live in a lovely quiet cul-de-sac just outside the town of Bruton, Somerset. Our pad (as we call it) is clean, light and airy with all the comforts of your own home. We have a very friendly well behaved dog who will also make you very welcome and two sleepy cats as they are showing their age. All guests will be made very welcome and accommodated to their needs. We have knowledge of the surrounding area for walking and touring the area - lots of lovely places within a short car journey.
‘Our pad’ is accessible to able people as the living accommodation is upstairs but once there you have full use of the facilities on offer to make you feel home from home.
The queen has recently visited our town, which you will find very quaint. There are two pubs in walking distant and we also have The Chapel which serves everything from coffee, pizza’s, bakery and lunch. We also have the Roth and bar grill and Matts kitchen which are both lovely places to eat using local quality produce. The town also has an array of art galleries, one on the high street and one just outside of town.
  • Good place, clean room, good people.

Bruton has plenty to offer - art, architecture, food, culture. An ancient former market town, Bruton is a well known educational and arts centre with a bustling and friendly community. Internationally renowned Hauser & Wirth gallery hold regular exhibitions of world famous artists, and their gardens by Piet Oudolf is worth seeing. A visit to the Dovecote, Bruton Art Factory, and taking a stroll along the Brue River are some of the many activities avaiable in town.
  • A real beautiful spot in the heartlands of Bruton. Surrounded by rolling fields and bleating sheep. Really recommend the breakfasts. Pat and Sophie are amazing hosts, felt very welcome. Thanks again guys. Great value for money...

  • A wonderful, serene, comfortable, cosy and healing space. Close to town but far enough away to feel like a true farmyard lifestyle

    Joss2019-10-13T00:00:00Z
  • Pat and Sophie’s place is in a great rural location, a quiet and peaceful retreat, yet just a pleasant ten minute walk through the woods into Bruton. Sophie's recommendations for local gardens to visit were much appreciated as were her tips on places to eat. A wonderful breakfast in the restaurant next door was an added bonus and made for an easy leisurely start to the day. We would definitely revisit in the future.

    Alan2019-09-04T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely studio with everything that you'd need for your stay and a perfect base for exploring the local area. Pat and Sophie were really helpful with sharing their local knowledge and tips too!

    Natalie2019-07-21T00:00:00Z
  • We booked to stay at Coombe Farm over the Easter Holiday weekend hoping for a country escape that would enable us to relax and unwind for a few days and we were definitely not disappointed. Sophie and Pat were so welcoming and friendly and did all they could to make our stay easy and enjoyable. The location was perfect, only a short woodland walk to the nearby small town of Bruton yet just far enough away to enable us to feel that we were in the middle of the countryside. The nights were perfectly quiet (with the exception of the odd owl hoot here and there) and the evenings were full of the sounds of pheasants and sheep and the babbling stream that runs through the farm. Ash Barn itself is a beautifully appointed, clean, spacious, light and airy building with a contemporary feel and was perfect for the two of us. It was comfortable and cosy and finished to a very high standard. WiFi and broadband speed was excellent, which still seems to be a rarity for farm locations. There is a little kitchen area which was ideal for cooking on the occasion that we didn‘t walk into Bruton for a meal. Breakfast, cooked to order in the charming restaurant on the farm, was incredible and was the perfect start to the day. Sophie‘s poached egg on toast with corn and celeriac sauce was delicious and with the added mushrooms, beans and morcilla black pudding this breakfast really needs to be tried to be believed. We told Sophie that she might just have ruined all future breakfasts for us at other restaurants! Thank you Sophie and Pat for a lovely weekend stay, we will be back!

    Andrew2019-04-23T00:00:00Z
  • We absolutely loved our stay in the barn - it's the most beautiful location, just a short stroll from Bruton and surrounded by idillic Somerset countryside. The menu at the cafe is so well considered and I can vouch that breakfast, lunch and the Friday night Malaysian are all absolutely delicious. The barn itself is gorgeous, the perfect mix of high-spec, cozy and rustic, with lots of really lovely touches. Sophie was so welcoming and accommodating - we were offered lifts from the station, given lots of local tips and even a few slices of homemade cake. It was all very dreamy. I would highly recommend a stay at the barn - I'd say this was my favourite Airbnb experience so far.

    Rebecca2019-03-30T00:00:00Z
  • I recommend this unusually beautiful setting On The Brook, you will be amazed. And the accommodation is a delight, good light, and views. It's a short walk into Bruton on a footpath, friendly helpful people, great breakfast. Footpaths all around. I have only good things to say.

This is an elegant and cosy double room in my family home in the heart of Bruton. With the High Street just a minutes walk away it is perfectly located to enjoy the local restaurants, pubs, and boutiques that Bruton has to offer. Hauser & Wirth art gallery is a 10 minute walk away and it is a short drive to Stourhead house and gardens, Sparkford Hall, Bath & West Showground and Glastonbury. The room is perfect for single guests or couples.
My house is a modest Victorian town house which I have lovingly renovated over the last few years. It has a traditional feel with a contemporary twist and is a light and calming space to be in. The room is situated at the back of the house on the first floor, overlooking the garden. There is a standard double bed, with cotton bed linen and goose feather duvet and pillows. There is a small wardrobe, a chair, a mirror, shelves and a bedside table with drawers. The shared bathroom is on the same floor and is modern and compact with a rain shower and bath.
  • This was the second time I stayed at Julia’s home and I would definitely recommend staying here. A lovely room in a friendly home, it is great for exploring Bruton and the surrounding area!

  • Julia’s great... Easy-going, open and ever-helpful (Julia was so ill when I stayed and yet couldn’t do enough...that’s a class host). Bruton is gloriously quaint and Julia’s sweet little pad is about 1 minute away. Super value for money...it ain’t king size but I’m 6’3 and snuck into an extremely comfortable bed.

  • I stayed at Julia’s for a week while starting a new job in Bruton. As soon as I arrived Julia and her daughter were so welcoming and made me feel really at home. The room was light, clean and the bed was so comfortable. I highly recommend staying here if you’re in the area!

There were many thoughtful touches including everything you need for breakfast (including delicious home made marmalade) as well as some treats! There is plenty of room to relax as well as a large selection of films and music to enjoy. Lisa gave us lots of helpful tips and advice about Bruton and the wider area. We would not hesitate to return and highly this property.

  • Lisa and Andy are phenomenally good hosts. Completely respectful of personal space but brilliantly helpful and attentive. The house has everything you could possibly need down to the unexpected provision of food bits and bobs which we took full advantage of as it was all so lovely. Andy even went out of his way to provide non dairy milk and spread for us. The bed is super comfy, the bath is enormous and the books and DVDs are plentiful (including talented Andy's own writings!). The best thing about it though, really is the hosts. They are warm, funny, fascinating people and we can't wait to go back and see them again! Thanks both of you!

Amble along the ridge to Beacon Hill (think Spanish Armada) with magnificent views for miles or down along old drover’s tracks to funky Bruton for tea. "The best part was hanging out in a beautiful place in the countryside and hearing the birds when we woke up. The place is absolutely stunning and perfect for country walks..." Charlie June '17 And here’s what Asmat wrote “A little hidden gem tucked away in the most beautiful rural setting.” July 2019 There is ample on site parking, however one can travel by train and finish the journey by taxi from either Castle Cary (10 minutes) or Templecombe (25 minutes) and we’d be happy to run you back to the station! The most comfortable bed gorgeous bedding & and a wow factor en-suite bathroom. Well decorated with a cosy sitting room with TV /DVD and selection of DVD's & books. Lots of little extras & a beautiful view especially from the bench under the tree at the top of the field to watch the ☀ go down. We booked at short notice and stayed for 4 night's over August BH weekend & would have loved to stay longer we'd recommend to anyone especially for a romantic break, we got engaged!

  • Beautiful one bedroom cottage tucked away in the middle of the countryside with amazing views from every room. It is situated at the back of the main house and separated by an outbuilding so you are completely secluded. The upstairs bedroom is big with a good on-suite that has an enormous bath, and the bed is very comfortable. Downstairs there is a fully fitted kitchen and a good sized lounge. It really is truly tranquil so if you are looking to get away from it all this is the place from you. There are a number of good walks directly from the house and for those who want to eat out, a couple of great restaurants and pubs in the area (Roth bar and grill in Bruton was excellent). Sean and Zoe were welcoming and left loads of information about the area. Highly recommended.

    John2019-08-18T00:00:00Z
  • An idyllic venue with a thoughtful host. The retreat is perfectly located for convenience and privacy. We were transported to the beautiful English countryside and the absolute best it has to offer. I would highly recommend Sean and the retreat to anyone looking for time out and peace and quiet. We wouldn’t hesitate to return.

My place is a small but cosy and convenient bungalow in a quiet and peaceful neighbourhood on the edge of town. My place is close to the town centre, art and culture, shops, restaurants and dining, the train station, the river Brue and great views.
My neighbourhood is very peaceful and quiet. Only a few minutes walk to the train station and town centre and with lovely views of the countryside.
  • Carola's place is small but full of colour. Unfortunately she couldn't be there at the last minute for the one night I had booked, but she generously allowed me to stay anyway, and thoughtfully provided breakfast. Thank you Carola!

I provide you with pastries, bread, marmalade and jam, cereal, fruit, tea, coffee, milk, juice and yogurt for you to make breakfast at a time to suit you. There is a kettle, toaster and coffee machine, a fridge and a microwave. Parking is secure and off-road, and there is a lockable shed if you have a bicycle.
Maybourne part of a traditional Somerset cheese store, over 100 years old, which has been sympathetically converted into three dwellings.
Castle Cary is a pretty market town with independent shops, a Tuesday open air market, coffee shops and pubs. There is a station with a direct link to Paddington, and local buses.
  • Rosanna's place is very comfortable, well equipped and stylishly furnished. We had everything and more than we needed. It is a couple of minutes walk to a nice pub that does good food and minutes drive to various things to do in Bruton. We would happily recommend it.

Large, tastefully decorated en-suite room with king size bed/quality bed linen. Self contained with TV, desk space and sofa. To allow for your privacy we provide basic breakfast items for your stay without disturbing you each morning. The picturesque centre of Castle Cary is a few minutes walk away. Ideal for a couple, but the sofa bed could accommodate a child, please enquire and see space details. Please DO NOT Instant Book if attending Bath Showground / Glastonbury events, see space details.
This luxury room which is newly decorated forms part of our house but is self contained with its own entrance. Just a few minutes walk from the delightful town centre. Visit the historic market house, the thriving Tuesday local market or the vintage market run once a month. You are near to Bruton where the Hauser and Wirth gallery is found, together with noted restaurants, and nearby is the newly opened visitor attraction - 'The Newt'. A little further afield you are spoilt for choice of National Trust properties as well as Glastonbury, Wells, Bath, Street for Clark’s shopping village, and Shepton Mallet for the Kilver Court designer village and garden, or a visit to the notable prison. IMPORTANT NOTE: While we are not far from Bath Showground and Glastonbury we do not take bookings for late / overnight events. This is due to the fact that we are not aware of any local taxi services that are available for such events and it is about a 5 mile walk from the Showground down busy country roads with no pavement. We appreciate that bus services are sometimes shown as offered to and from the station but these never seem to run to suit the time people want to return. Having brought up our own children we no longer wish to have the worry of young adults not getting back, or having to act as a taxi service for people at such events. No cleaning charges applied. Tea / coffee / basic breakfast items provided Coffee machine Mini fridge We have a no smoking policy We request that guests remove shoes when entering. £10 additional charge per night for child using sofa bed (enquire first please using ‘contact host’ no instant booking for this).
All around the area is beautiful countryside. Opposite the property is an open area for walking with some exercise equipment if feeling energetic. Beside the property is the sports field which you wander across on the path to get into town. There are places to eat in town, as well as takeaways, and some excellent pubs and restaurants not too far distant including renowned restaurants in Bruton.
  • Clean, homely and very comfortable. We stayed with our 1 year old and she had a terrific nights sleep! As did we! Very peaceful and definitely recommended. Thanks!

Guests are taken aback by the location. Heavenly cottage with stunning views. Beautifully decorated sitting room, bedroom, and outdoor covered patio overlooking the gardens and lake.
Beautiful open spaces, stunning views, peace and quiet.
  • Absolutely gorgeous retreat / creative / getaway space with thoughtful touches like candles, lovely bath products, gorgeous bed linen and cosy blankets on the sofa downstairs, delicious tea selection etc. Completely self-contained and surrounded by beautiful countryside. Great space to dance, or do yoga, downstairs, and detached and away from other buildings for any guitar playing/singing you might need to do! Warm, friendly hosts in the main house nearby should you need them (Emma very kindly brought me toothpaste, which I'd forgotten, on her way home and delivered it to my door!), without at all being intrusive. The perfect place to unwind or power up!

    Kelly2020-02-28T00:00:00Z
  • Comfortable bed and all beautifully clean. Very handy for East Pennard wedding we went to.

    Sally2020-01-01T00:00:00Z
  • We had a lovely overnight stay here after a wedding in the area. Emma was a wonderful host, really helpful with check-in timings after a stressful journey, and the cottage was the perfect little retreat on a bitterly cold November night. One of the comfiest beds we've slept in in ages! And a breakfast tray in the morning was a lovely touch. Thank you for having us, definitely recommended!

    Owen2019-11-10T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed here for one night and really enjoyed our stay. The property is very clean and well presented. We enjoyed the amazing view and surroundings. The hosts are very welcoming and made sure we had everything we needed. Would recommend staying at this property. Thanks again to the hosts for a lovely stay.

  • A lovely little cottage, mega comfy bed, perfect for a cosy night away in the country and about 20 mins into Glastonbury.

    Ian2019-09-22T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely cottage and great location for Pennard House weddings. Lots of thoughtful touches and a great breakfast in the morning!

    Chris2019-09-15T00:00:00Z
  • Emma made us feel at home in her exquisite country environment and provided a lovely breakfast. We loved the decor, how immaculately clean and private the apartment was and the extremely comfortable bed and duvet. It is a perfect place to escape the city, to enjoy the countryside and was close to our destination which was Glastonbury. We recommend getting there in daylight as it is situated down a country lane. A great retreat, very quiet and the social space is conversational, not dominated by a TV set or any other form of media. We enjoyed our stay and would have loved to have extended it.

    Lori2019-09-12T00:00:00Z
  • Emma's place is comfortable and relaxing, and very quiet. We saw a barn owl at dusk and then heard it again later - beautiful.

  • Susanna's place is gorgeous - we cannot recommend it highly enough. The room is very private, with a separate entrance and ensuite bathroom. It was the first time we've stayed in a private room and it has converted us from exclusively "entire place" Airbnbers. The bed was extremely comfortable and made up with beautiful bed linen. Susanna included so many thoughtful touches, which really made the stay feel special. The house is within easy reach of Castle Cary and Bruton and it's a beautiful part of the countryside for a walk. Could not fault it!

    Isabella2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • Spent the weekend at Susanna’s place for a quiet break from London life and I feel totally relaxed after such a nice time. Susanna’s home is truly beautiful and her well-meaning hospitality made it feel so special. It is really easy to get around to all the must-see spots in Bruton like Hauser + Wirth and The Newt, she gave me some excellent tips that made the weekend just a little more full too. Really sad being back home now, I could have moved in!

    Amy2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • We absolutely loved staying here. The location is incredible, tucked away in an idyllic hamlet just a few minutes away from Bruton or Castle Cary. The whole property is gorgeous, incredible gardens and beautiful architecture. The bed is one of the comfiest we've ever stayed in! Susanna is a brilliant host and made us feel really welcome, she even laid out an amazing breakfast in her amazing kitchen. We drank tea, coffee and juice and ate croissants, fruit, toast and cereal, it was one of the best experiences on Airbnb we've ever had. Can't wait to visit again! The annex is very private, secluded, luxurious and tastefully decorated.

  • Every now and then you come across a real jewel on Air BnB - this place is one of them. A private annexe room with an ensuite bathroom with a lovely shower space. Everything is so stylish - part of a beautiful house with a rolling garden. A stone's throw from Bruton. Susanna was great with her communication. Highly recommended luxury!!

    Sam2019-10-27T00:00:00Z
  • The annexe was idyllic providing a super comfy bed, powerful shower. Everything was spotlessly clean. Susanna was a lovely host.

    Tristan2019-08-22T00:00:00Z
  • Susanna's place is fantastic. It's stylish and wonderfully comfortable and we particularly appreciated the thoughtful touches i.e. the cool water in the fridge and the yummy biscuits and plentiful supply of tea/coffee and the decent sized mugs , glasses and cafetiere--not always a given! Susanna is very warm and welcoming.

    Chris2019-08-10T00:00:00Z

  • This was our second time staying at the Trap House and it was just as good as the first, if not better. Heather really has thought of everything from the local cheese, butter and bread in the welcome pack to the luxurious finishes touches to the decor. We consider the Trap House a real home from home and are always so sad to leave. Location is great for local pubs and connections to neighbouring villages. Trap house is perfect for a romantic and peaceful getaway. We’ll be back again that’s for sure 🥰

Terraced character cottage originally built as accommodation for the horse hair weaving factory opposite. It is newly refurbished and dogs are welcome. The well equipped cottage is within walking distance of charming country town, mainline station and open countryside. Ideal base for visiting Glastonbury, Stonehenge, Bath, Longleat, Stourhead The Newt in Somerset or Hauser & Wirth. Or as overnight accommodation for Cadbury Court, Pennard House, Sparkford Hall, Holbrook Manor or Kilver Court.
Our aim is to provide clean, comfortable accommodation at a reasonable charge. Set over two floors, you are welcomed through the front door into the living room with dining table and chairs, comfy seating and internet enabled tv. Through the hallway is the bathroom which has a shower over the bath, wash basin and wc. From the hallway, a few steps lead you down into the well equipped kitchen and back door, taking you down further steps to the garden. The garden has ample space for relaxing with a lawned area, flower borders and an archway takes you to the gravelled area - with views over open fields and Glastonbury Tor. Upstairs there are two bedrooms - one King size, overlooking the front of the property, with dressing table and garment hooks ; the other double room overlooks the garden, with garment hangers and shelves.
Born and bred in Castle Cary, I confess I am biased but not without good reason. We are rightly proud of our independent shops, coffee shops and pubs - you can get most things you need and much more you didn’t know you needed! The town itself has a museum based in the historic Market House and one of only a few surviving Round House prisons to visit. Castle Cary is a great base if you’re attending an event at Cadbury Court, Holbrook Manor or Sparkfork Hall. Equally suitable if you’re planning to visit more popular tourist spots like Clark’s Village, Glastonbury, Longleat, Haynes Motor Museum, Yeovilton, the Somerset Levels, Stonehenge and Stourhead.
  • A great location for exploring Castle Cary, surrounding villages and beyond!

The Blue Wooden House is part of an original 1947 Scandinavian wooden house, donated by the Swedish government after World War 2. A compact hideaway with its own entrance, bright and sunny with a comfortable double bed and en suite shower room, its the perfect place for a tranquil break yet is on the doorstep of cultural Bruton with its internationally renowned pioneering art gallery Hauser and Wirth.
The Blue Wooden House is the old washing annex. It has a private entrance through our garden so you can come and go as you please. Muesli and local fresh bread from Lovingtons Bakery are supplied for making your own breakfast; home made jams and marmalade are also supplied along with tea and fresh coffee. Breakfast in the garden while watching the many song birds is a treat. Linen sheets and white towels add to the cosy retro feel of this wooden hideaway.
Places of interest just down the road: pioneering world class art gallery Hauser and Wirth; the Stourhead Estate (National Trust) with its many beautiful walks 'in Arcadian splendour'; Bruton town with its local shops and At the Chapel cafe bar and pizza restaurant; The Bull, our local pub serving excellent food is 5 minutes walk away.
  • A peaceful place to stay, a local pub nearby with nice food served. Host was very pleasant and friendly. Phone signal was not brilliant so ideal if you want to switch off and wind down for a day or two. Lots to do in the area and very scenic. Recommended

Great to have a small fridge with muesli and milk, delicious bread, butter and a fabulous marmalade supplied. Lovely Modern bathroom. Comfy double bed. A taxi ride into Bruton cost £12 each way.

Lovely room with ensuite shower, and king size double in comfortable family farmhouse in a beautiful rural location. Exclusive use of separate sitting room.
We live in a beautiful spot, with wonderful garden views. Feel free to sit in the garden if the weather is right. We grow lots of our own vegetables and flowers.
We are 3 miles from Bruton, home of the famous Hauser & Wirth art gallery, and At the Chapel restaurant. 3 miles from the beautiful Stourhead Estate. 5 miles from The Newt in Somerset. Walking distance to brilliant local pub, The Bull at Hardway with good food and drink.
  • We had an exceptional welcome here from Mary and her family. I think it’s the best Airbnb I’ve ever stayed in. Tea on arrival when we were cold and wet and a lovely wood burning stove in a living room reserved just for guests. The bedroom was also super nice and comfortable with quiet rural outlook and en-suite bathroom.

    Penny2020-02-19T00:00:00Z
  • Mary’s house is wonderful and her and her husband made us feel very welcome. The room is lovely and the breakfast was brilliant. Great stay and we will definitely be revisiting!

    Mike2019-12-14T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely farmhouse in rural location, friendly family and the cutest dogs, lovely spacious room with great on suite and fabulous shower, Simon & Mary were really helpful with booking taxis and helping with our restaurant table booking at the local pub. Mary also lent me here wellies so we could take a look around the farm, we really enjoyed our weekend stay for our friends wedding. Fully recommended and a credit to AIRBNB

    Kate2019-10-06T00:00:00Z
  • Rural locations and attentive hosts come no better than this! Comfortable bed, spotless bathroom, great breakfast in their conservatory. Large lounge with tv for our private use. The family were chatty and Mary suggested, and booked for us, an excellent restaurant nearby. Directions spot on but you do need a satnav !

    Barbara2019-10-01T00:00:00Z
  • A very warm welcome, good sized room, quiet location, friendly family. Highly recommended.

  • You will find a really outstanding welcome here and one of the most peaceful and calming environments away from roads and noise in delightful English Countryside. The rooms they have set aside for guests are beautifully furnished and spacious with a truly 'family' feel. This is the best type of B and B you will find and we hope to return many times over.

    Tim2019-09-22T00:00:00Z
  • My partner and I had a wonderful stay with Mary. The house is beautiful and they also have the most adorable dogs! We also had a bit of a problem booking a taxi to the wedding we were attending (warning - no signal) so Mary very kindly gave us a lift there. Overall, we had a lovely stay and we will definitely stay here again if we are in the area and we want to say a huge thank you to Mary and her family for letting us stay.

Delightful period/retro styled cottage in the heart of a popular and picturesque Somerset market town. A great base for exploring Somerset or just enjoying the charms of Castle Cary; the Tuesday food market, weekend antiques market, cosy local pubs, and lovely countryside walks right on your doorstep. The cottage itself is well located within the old town centre, but in a quiet alleyway with a sunny private patio/garden area. Walking distance from Castle Cary rail station, free parking nearby.
The cottage is newly renovated but has a whole host of original features such as wooden beams, polished stone flagstone and timber floors. It's tastefully decorated with items collected from local furniture fairs, and where-ever possible we've used up-cycled materials such as the the school science laboratory worktops in the kitchen, and units recovered from a 1940's home. Despite its period charm the cottage has some modern benefits like toasty warm central heating, new plumbing and electrics, and the full range of modern appliances. The cottage will comfortably accommodate four people in the generously sized double bedrooms and a modern shower room with unlimited hot water. The kitchen and dining area is perfect for group meals and the antique farmhouse dining table is great for enjoying home cooked meals using locally sourced food from the range of shops and markets on your doorstep.
Castle Cary is a small market town surrounded by miles of unspoilt countryside, and has been described as one of Somerset's prettiest places. The town is characterised by its lovely old buildings constructed of the distinctive honey coloured stone for which the area is well known. Castle Cary has some lovely traditional shops and boutiques, a great delicatessen, a number of places to eat, and a fantastic traditional English pub called the George, all located in close walking distance from the cottage. There is a food market each Tuesday, and during the summer an antiques market at the weekend. Take a walk up the path next to the George to explore the footpaths around the old castle, and take in the amazing views across the Somerset levels and of Glastonbury Tor. Further afield Castle Cary is a great base to explore Somerset, and there is a huge range of things to do within easy driving distance: Bath, Bristol, The Newt Estate, Shepton Mallet showground, Cheddar Gorge, Cheese Tours, Longleat Safari Park, Wooky Hole, Cadbury Castle, The Fleet Air Arm Museum, Hayne Motor Museum, or just choose to relax and enjoy your stay!
  • Lovely place, super central, stylish interior mixed with charm of the building. Robert is a great host!

  • Beautiful spacious cottage in a small market town in Somerset. Beautifully decorated and near many little shops and cafes. Robert was very communicative and helpful. Highly recommended if you wish to visit the area.

  • The cottage was beautiful, much bigger then we thought. The decor was very well thought out and to a very high standard. Loved the upcycled furniture and the kitchen was an amazing space to cook and relax in. Great communication and super quick to reply to any questions that we had. We really enjoyed our stay and was a lovely home away from home for two nights. Thank you

  • You will want to stay at Pat's place while visiting the Bruton area. It is exactly as advertised. Our barn conversion was super clean, well outfitted and the treats in the fridge were well appreciated. The wifi was excellent. Walking trails were every bit as good as advertised. Walking to Bruton was quick, relaxing and the field route offered an excellent view. You will not leave the breakfast table hungry. Everything was delicious and the homemade baked beans were outstanding. Pat, thank you very much for wonderful, professional hospitality!

    Mark2019-08-23T00:00:00Z
  • One of the best places we have ever stayed in. The farm is gorgeous, the barn is so comfy and clean and cute and charming. Even better, they serve you delicious coffee and breakfast in the attached cafe overlooking green rolling hills and a brook. Super close ten min stroll to bruton high street down a lovely woodland path. Pat and Sophie could not do enough for us and our mum, the barn is fully accessible and the food is incredible. Cannot recommend enough, book this place!

    Lucy2019-07-06T00:00:00Z
  • Great hospitality (also for children), delicious food, very clean accommodation, no problems at all. we will gladly come again!

    Adrian2019-06-04T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed for one night in the Hazel Barn which is newly rennovated, very modern and spotlessly clean. It is in a beautiful setting, remote enough to be able to appreciate the countryside and farmland but still only a short distance from Bruton. The breakfast provided was really lovely, home cooked, local ingredients, definitely not the average b&b breakfast. Even the baked beans were homemade! We took our 3 year old son last minute and Pat and Sophie were very flexible and accommodating.

    Lacey2019-05-12T00:00:00Z
  • We were delighted to be the first guests to have stayed at this newly refurbished barn. Located in one of the most stunning areas of lovely Bruton, Hazel Barn is part of On the Brook farm and cafe. At the cafe they offer deliciously made food using local ingredients. The Barn is newly refurbished, incredibly comfortable and ideal for a few days in the country away from the city. We are returning customers and I know we’ll come back soon. Pat and her partner are great hosts, I recommend them 100%

  • A great little set up and a perfect base to explore local attractions. We stayed with our 3 month baby and Linzi very kindly left a baby monitor, travel cot and changing facility out. We walked to the local pub for dinner, visited Clark’s village and had a fantastic Chinese takeaway from Hong Kong Garden Shepton Mallet. A great little break away.

The Hayloft is a converted farm building with comfortable, 2 bed accommodation on a gated property. The heart of Castle Cary is 2 minutes walk while the garden in which the Hayloft is situated backs onto fields. The best of town and country at once! We have just completed a full redecoration, including new bathroom. We're really proud of it. Come and see for yourselves!
The Hayloft dates back to the early 1800s when it was a farm-building. It is comfortably equipped, cosy and warm. Tucked away from the street it's a haven of calm yet only 2 minutes walk from the centre of town for any shopping needs.
Castle Cary is one of Somerset's jewels. The buildings are mainly beautiful honey-coloured Hadspen stone. The market town itself has a thriving heart of shops, pubs and restaurants. We feel privileged to live here.
  • What a special little place the Hayloft is ! Perfectly placed for a short walk into Castle Carey and so clean, comfortable and peaceful. We were also treated to fresh bread, butter, milk, homemade apple juice AND their own free range eggs ! A really lovely experience and we will definitely re book in the future.

    Rebekah2020-03-15T00:00:00Z
  • A delightful cottage in the heart of beautiful Castle Cary. It is well supplied with food on arrival and all the equipment you need for cooking. Plenty of room for relaxing. High quality shops and pub just a few minutes walk away.

    Frances Sibbet2020-03-10T00:00:00Z
  • We had a lovely stay at The Hayloft. The cottage is well equipped and very comfortable for a family of 4 (including a baby). Our son loved the chickens roaming the yard outside! Fantastic location in the heart of Castle Cary. I recommend the pancakes and coffee at Home just a few doors down, and a trip to The Newt and nearby Bruton.

    Louisa2020-02-24T00:00:00Z
  • What a great find! The Hayloft is just perfect. The property is decorated and furnished to such a high standard. Spacious yet cosy, with particularly lovely bed linen! The location is spot on, with the property being just a few minutes’ walk down the road to cafes, pubs and shops. John was an excellent host; easy to communicate with, really welcoming and very informative. The personal touches of fresh local bread, butter and eggs were the icing on the cake! Our only regrets were not sampling the home-made cider and apple juice... I suppose we will just have to come back again....

    Megan2020-02-02T00:00:00Z
  • We had a very enjoyable stay. The place was lovely and clean and very comfortable. We loved the fact that John left milk, butter, bread and eggs from his free-range chickens, which were delicious. He also left apple juice and cider of his own production for us. It makes such a difference when you have that on your arrival. This was all much enjoyed. If we ever come back to the area, we'll make sure to stay there again! Highly recommended.

    Edward2020-01-19T00:00:00Z
  • Thank you for a wonderful stay. Home produced and local provisions were much appreciated, particularly the delicious apple juice. Teenagers were delighted to find good wi-fi AND netflix! All we could have wanted with large bath sheets and lovely crisp bedlinen. A fleeting visit but hope to return for a longer visit next time.

    Sara2020-01-05T00:00:00Z
  • The Hayloft is an amazingly spacious and comfortable place to stay. The bedrooms are particularly attractive, the beds and bed linen wonderful and the bathroom luxurious. Thoughtful welcome gifts of eggs, butter, bread, apple juice and cider were hugely appreciated. We’d love to return

  • This place is even better than the pictures! Stunning period house with a beautiful country kitchen. Sam and Sally were very helpful throughout and I could not recommend their place more.

  • This is a fantastic house in a lovely Somerset town. We spent Christmas here with a big group of family and friends and it couldn’t have been better. Its a huge 1720s town house, which hasn’t been renovated so it’s full of character. Every inch of wall space has old paintings, mirrors or cases of butterflies and the like. If you love poking around in antique shops then you’ll love this house... and Castle Cary. The beds were very comfortable, there are two bathrooms, one with a shower and the other with a stand-out bath. They provide plenty of towels and the kitchen equipment is excellent. We would highly recommend.

  • We had a lovely time staying at the old bank house hosted by Sally and Sam. The place was spotless and the decor was amazing with loads of lovely features. Sam and Sally were so helpful and always replied straightaway The location was brilliant, right on the high street with everything in walking distance. I would definitely stay here again!

  • A perfect country escape destination for our party of ten people. Particular highlights were the open fires, quirky decor and historical features. We spent most of our time here inside- it was a great space to be hosted in! We also did the pizza party on the first evening.

  • A lovely comfortable place in the countryside close to lots of local amenities. This space is ideal for a romantic weekend away for two. The projector is a real treat for watching a film in front of the fire. The view from the bedroom was idyllic and the setting peaceful. The hosts were wonderful and friendly - they even organised anti allergy bedding when I mentioned I was allergic to down bedding. A really thoughtful touch.

  • Can't praise this Airbnb highly enough. I'd give it 10 stars if I could! Both Diane and her husband were fantastic hosts, couldn't do enough to make our stay enjoyable. Myself and 3 friends stayed here for a show at the Bath & Somerset showground that is within walking distance. Will definitely be booking this cottage again when looking for accommodation in the area. In summary, this cottage is spotlessly clean, very comfortable with all the facilities you'd need for a very enjoyable stay. Once again a big thank you to our hosts.

Very hospitable hosts

  • Above the Stables is in an idyllic spot and the views are gorgeous. Inside was spotless, spacious and welcoming with lots of comfy sofas and decorated throughout with style and charm. There are rows of books and DVD's, a fantastic large screen with projector + TV. Melinda was lovely and couldn't have been more welcoming. She was so generous with the provisions she left - Bread, butter, her own fresh eggs, milk, juice, yoghurt, jam, biscuits, chocolate etc. etc. and a beautifully laid breakfast table. Upton Noble is perfectly positioned for Bruton, Frome and Bath and for exploring the rest of this part of Somerset's beautiful villages and rolling hills. Thank you so much to Melinda for a great stay. Highly recommend.

    Catherine2019-08-18T00:00:00Z
  • Melinda's place exceeded our expectations in accomodation space, furniture and special touches. Fresh farm eggs and bread and extras to nibble on in a lovely country area was one of the highlights of our stays through England and Wales. Melinda welcomed us and was always on hand with tips and suggestions on places to visit and see in a beautiful country side. I could not recommend Melinda's place highly enough - great hosts, great accomodation and a beautiful location.

    Geoff2019-07-29T00:00:00Z
  • We had a lovely stay. Melinda had thought of all the little touches that make you feel very welcome. Great space and the location was perfect for our visit to Somerset. We will definately stay again if visiting the area.

    Sarah2019-07-21T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful property and location, a pleasurable experience and such a simple process from booking to arrival and during the stay. The touches in terms of provisions were the best I've had via an Airbnb booking. Highly recommend a visit.

    Simon2019-07-15T00:00:00Z
  • We had a wonderful stay at Melinda's place. From the moment we requested to book until the moment we left, Melinda was a responsive, thoughtful and great host. The place is bigger and better than it looks in the photos, and the location is an excellent base for exploring the local area (our weekend took in Longleat, Hauser and Wirth at Bruton and Stourhead (National Trust) and we were just scratching the surface of what the area has to offer. There are no shops or pubs in the village so it's really great that Melinda offers extras such as the basics (and more) you need when you arrive (e.g. milk, cereal, tea, coffee, butter, bread) and extras like eggs from the hens and some chocolate buttons in the fridge went down a treat. There are pubs and shops a short drive away. The property is easy to find and parking is secure and accessible. The bed is very comfy and you get a lovely peaceful night's sleep. We really enjoyed the living area and the home cinema system - bring your favourite DVDs! We wouldn't hesitate to recommend this property and would definitely like to return in the future.
