  • My fiancé and I stayed at Michelle’s this weekend, and it was wonderful! We spent much of our time sitting out on the porch by the fire pit drinking wine and looking at the water. Michelle was incredibly responsive and gave us great tips on where to eat and pick up firewood. She even left us a sweet gift as it was Valentine’s Day. We would love to come back!

  • The Moore Cottage is a delightful place to ‘chillax’- the place is beautiful, clean and well maintained. The views are spectacular. Michelle was an amazing host. We look forward to another visit- thanks so much for a wonderful stay.

  • Michelle's cottage was a little bit of heaven. It was perfect for a restful stay or a base for more athletic activities. The bed was very comfortable and the bed and bath linens were exceptional. All necessities were provided and the cottage was spotless. Not to be missed are early mornings and sunsets on the back porch. Michelle was a great host and made sure all of our needs were met. Hope to return many, many times in the future

    Sandy2019-10-26T00:00:00Z
  • Michelle proved to be an especially hospitable host. The cottage was full of charm (reminiscent, to us, of New England) and many thoughtful touches. Everything was clean, orderly, and comfortable. A couple of very fine restaurants are in easy reach. In all, a fine base from which to explore the Northern Neck.

    Michael2019-10-23T00:00:00Z
  • My husband and I stayed at the cottage for our anniversary weekend and it was wonderful! The space is perfect with beautiful views and easy access to the water. We spent most of our time on the porch with the fire pit looking out at the water. Check in was easy and there were lots of local reccomendations. We visited willabys, merroir, and the local and all were great! We're already talking about when we can come back! Great Airbnb experience in a cute town!

    Lauren2019-10-20T00:00:00Z
  • Absolutely perfect. Little private sand bar island to kayak over too. Every thing amazing. Perfect get away.

    Steve2019-10-08T00:00:00Z
  • Adorable cottage with beautiful water view. Tastefully decorated, huge kitchen, very comfortable. Enjoyed sitting on both the front porch and back deck - very peaceful. Lots of nice little touches like K-cups, bath gel, etc. Sparkling clean! Michelle is a great host. Will definitely keep this place on my list for future stays.

    Adele2019-10-04T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely cabin and wonderful host. We instantly felt at home and the location overlooking the marsh and water is just amazing. We hope to be back soon for a longer stay of just sitting on the back deck, relaxing and making use of the kayaks. Ask the host about the history of the house. Very interesting! Don't miss Willaby's Cafe just by the bridge over the Rapahnnok in White Stone. Great food and even better view. Come early when they open for dinner so you get a seat by the window and enjoy the sunset. There is also a marina with Tiki Bar and restaurant 3 or 4 miles down the road the other way from the cabin and at the very tip of Windmill Point. Great outdoor seating overlooking the expanse of the Chesapeake Bay.

Lovely little quiet open plan cottage on the Corrotoman. Great views out to the Rappahannock. Wonderful private dock for crabbing, fishing, birdwatching or just relaxing. Nice little sand beach to get into the water and swim, kayak or float. Unplug and unwind on the porch, in a hammock or on the water.
Shaq-ri-la is right on the Corrotoman near Yankee Point Marina and the Merry Point Ferry. You probably won’t want to go anywhere once you settled into the porch and hung out on the dock. Belle Island State Park is nearby and it’s not too far a drive to Kilmarnock.
Yankee Point Marina with boat ramp, store, cafe & pool. Merry Point Ferry, free cable ferry that takes you across the Corrotoman for a shortcut to Kilmarnock & Irvington. Belle Isle State Park is just a few miles up the road.
  • It’s a great house, Beautiful Sunrise very comfortable bed. Very secluded and no WiFi really helps you reconnect with your significant other. We had a great time. Would visit the house again

    Maureen2019-10-18T00:00:00Z
  • My husband and I were in the area for a family wedding. Everything was perfect. Loved the enclosed porch and the fireplace! The “unplugged” aspect of the home also allowed us to take advantage of spending more quality time with each other away from our devices. The bikes were a great added touch as well! We enjoyed a nice morning bike ride. Would definitely recommend this spot for a nice secluded get away.

  • Beautiful location! Things we clean and neat and the home’s layout made for a very comfortable stay for my boyfriend and I. There was the perfect amount of amenities and the view from the house was gorgeous. Amanda was super easy to get ahold of and communicate with. We are excited to hopefully stay there again in the future! Everything was perfect.

    Kylie2019-09-08T00:00:00Z
  • This was an amazing getaway destination. I was planning on just taking it easy and enjoying a nice view while reading books or playing games, but we ended up having so much fun I didn't read at all on this trip. Amanda suggested a local moonlight canoe tour at the nearby state park the first night and it was just lovely. Amanda also had crab pots available and kayaks and the next day we spent crabbing and kayaking the river right there. There weren't many boats on the water and it was such a joy to be out kayaking. We actually went pretty far. She had lifevests available in each kayak so you don't have to worry about safety. There was also bottled waters available for drinking (not because the local water is bad, but just different.) The porch was one of my favorite features. We enjoyed our crabs out there and could see the moon and water easily. This is a remarkable little getaway and I cannot wait to visit again!!! I highly recommend it. You will NOT be disappointed!!!!

“Simple elegance to sooth the soul…” Another lovely comment from another happy guest. Mint Julep cottage aspires to be the most beautiful & comfortable - yet pet friendly - cottage in Irvington. Newly constructed and located across from the Tides Inn, it is easy walking distance shopa, restaurants, & retail spaces. Museums, fishing, & boating abound. Stay, Enjoy and Relax... PS... EVERYONE is welcome to Mint Julep. There is a $50, private pay, pet fee. Just leave the money on the table.
"Modern meets Shaker" is how one guest described the vibe.... 1000 sq feet and a huge back porch. Come enjoy!
A rebuilt waterman's cottage across the entrance to the Tides Inn... it doesn't get any better than this.

  • David and Mary Ann have created a lovely environment in which to stay with extra special touches like coffee, muffins and wine. It was decorated nicely, extremely clean and has a spectacular view of the Rappahannock River! It was a wonderful home base as we enjoyed the many small towns in the area, as well as a delicious Thanksgiving dinner at the Tides Inn restaurant, the Chesapeake. We certainly hope to return in warm weather so we can enjoy the dock and beach. Everything was perfect!

    Frazier2019-11-29T00:00:00Z
  • David and Mary Ann's place was amazing. They made sure you had wine, white and red. Also, fresh cinnamon apple muffins to go with your morning coffee was such a warm, homey touch. I would definitely stay here again.

  • David and Mary Ann's apartment is the perfect space to relax and take in beautiful river views. We enjoyed lounging on the patio overlooking the river, warming up in the hot tub, seeing the fish feeding around the dock at night, and checking out the local restaurants. For meals/activities, we thoroughly enjoyed Merroir, The Local, Dug In Farms, and Dog and Oyster Vineyard. Rudy's just down the street is also a great place for takeout. The space itself is perfect for two people and the bed was very comfortable. Complimentary wine and muffins were unexpected touches that we really appreciated!

  • Suzanne’s place is a quaint and charming space. It is in an excellent location which allows easy access to shops and restaurants in Urbana. It also offers the opportunity to visit other towns that are just a short drive away. She was prompt in answering any questions. We had perfect fall weather and just loved sitting and chatting on the porch. We will be back again for sure.

  • Charming cottage, perfect for a weekend getaway! The cottage is inside another property but totally secluded. The outside space, with its two porches, a hot tub, and an outdoor shower its absolutely lovely. Very peaceful and relaxing. Hosts are very attentive, making sure you have everything you need.

  • Mad Calf Cottage is perfection! Lara and David are wonderful, thoughtful hosts. We spent the weekend there for my 40th birthday and it was so lovely. The cottage is exactly as pictured. It was stylish yet homey, comfortable, exceptionally clean and well appointed. It is clear that Lara and David took great care in not only decorating but also in the special touches throughout. Knowing it was my birthday, they left a bottle of prosecco on ice (in addition to snacks and chocolates) for us to enjoy upon our arrival which was a delightful surprise. Lara gave me detailed information on the area and advice on restaurants. Taking her up on her suggestion, we ate at Adrift on Friday night. It was so good! But the show stopper was our dinner at the Hope and Glory Inn. Delicious is an insufficient descriptor. It was a meal I will not soon forget! There's nothing like having a cozy place to relax after we went on our adventures in the area and Mad Calf Cottage was exactly what we needed. It couldn't have been better. We hope to be back soon!

    Sherry2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • Mad Calf Cottage is amazing!! Sparkling clean and comfortable from the couches to the bed and pillows! We loved enjoying a glass of wine on the dock! We would definitely recommend this cozy spot and we will be back!!

    Ann2020-02-03T00:00:00Z
  • We loved our romantic weekend. The cottage is above par, beautifully decorated, and immaculate. We utilized the bikes for a nice ride through town to visit the local winery. The dock was an added plus to sit just before sunset. We certainly plan on booking another stay!

    Janine2020-01-26T00:00:00Z
  • Well, here’s the thing—you won’t want to leave. Lara has created a stunning oasis by the water in the sweet small town of Irvington. The finishes are modern and comfortable, including gleaming hardwood floors and plenty of comfortable outdoor seating spots. While certainly perfect for a romantic getaway, you’d find it an equally ideal spot for a creative retreat. Even before I arrived, I felt I was visiting a friend who included thoughtful touches like great dining recommendations, a hand written welcome, custom security code (no keys needed), and even a surprise toast for the New Year. Walk, bike, sit by the fire, swing on the porch, take yourself down to the dock and soak in the natural tranquility and beauty of this southern Virginia town. You’ll be glad you did, any time of year.

    Patricia2020-01-02T00:00:00Z
  • What a great Airbnb! Lara's cottage is beautiful and conveniently located with just about everything you could need (including a very detailed recommendations list that came in very handy). Great amenities and all of the birthday-specific touches were really thoughtful! Being the middle of December it was a bit too cold to enjoy all the fun water activities/dock - we'll definitely be back in the warmer months!

    Ericka2019-12-15T00:00:00Z
  • I had such a delightful stay and the mad calf. The pictures are accurate but still do not seem to do the place justice. It is a fantastic space, cozy, and with anything you could possibly need while away from home. This will be my first choice place to stay when I come back.

    Chris2019-11-13T00:00:00Z
  • Hands down the nicest, cleanest Airbnb I have ever stayed in (and I've stayed in a lot of them!). We went down to Irvington for the weekend, as I had reserved for us to go on the nearby Tides Inn's Oyster Academy experience as a surprise birthday gift for my husband. The night before we checked into Lara's Airbnb, the Inn abruptly emailed to tell me Oyster Academy was canceled. Huge bummer! We made the trip down anyway and we are so glad we did. The spacious and luxe Mad Calf cottage was enough to make the 5 hour drive worth it! It was a much needed getaway for us and I am so thankful I booked Mad Calf and didn't book a room at the Inn instead. Upon hearing about our misfortune, Lara told me about a wine and oyster crawl in the nearby wineries, so we did have something to do, in addition to the suggestions she has neatly laid out in the cottage binder. When we arrived, there was a bottle of chilled wine and snacks for us to enjoy. We made a fire in the pit and relaxed with some wine. Thank you Lara! We will return!

    Gisela2019-11-10T00:00:00Z
  • This is our second stay at Mad Calf Cottage. We were one of the first guests two years ago and I was stunned that nothing has changed. The place is a cozy retreat that has been kept in impeccable condition. Lara has thought of every little detail which makes you feel like you are staying in a high end hotel. Her communication is fantastic and prompt. My husband and I remarked to each other many times during our stay how perfect the cottage was. I really have no suggestions for improvement because IT WAS PERFECT. It is likely we will be back again and again. Thanks again for taking such obvious pride in ownership. It does not go unnoticed!!

Beautiful water views from three sides create a sense of open space. It is peaceful, with NO internet and no TV. Screened porch and patio with fire pit. Lots of living space with big living room, sunny dining room and kitchen. Perfectly restored with mid-century modern furniture. House is at end of a dead-end street in a quiet neighborhood of mixed income housing. There is no water access from this lot, but Carter's Cove Marina is nearby for launching kayaks or mooring your boat.
Most of the furnishings were left in the house when we bought it. We had to re-upholster them, but were able to save mid-century modern furnishings, old pictures, old lamps, and many dishes from the era.
It is a quiet neighborhood, with restaurants and grocery stores 10 minutes away. There are also wildlife preserves and state parks 20 minutes away, as well as historic sites.
  • This was a great place for us to stay. Quiet in the winter. The house was cozy and comfy furnished with vintage furnishings. Even though this is not right on the water, it felt like it. Great sunrises.

  • I had stayed at the wonderful yellow house once before and was so happy it was available when I returned to the Northern Neck. This time was even better because my wife got to stay there, too, and enjoy the fantastic views out almost every window and inspect the various eccentricities (all good) of the place. We will most definitely return and Jessica is the best as a host. This is a gem in the Chesapeake Bay.

    Bill2020-01-18T00:00:00Z
  • My husband and I truly enjoyed our stay at Jessica's airbnb. It has all the comforts of home plus the views and location are perfect! Clean and comfortable. A wonderful airbnb. We'd definitely stay again!

Welcome to this beautiful Chesapeake rental home nestled in the charming & historic town of Urbanna, VA. Less than a mile from town marina (great for people who want to kayak/bring their boats), great restaurants, shopping, town pool&playground, putt-putt golf, ice cream shops, soda fountain, coffee shop, parks, & town museum. Near great golf courses, wineries, & public beaches. Ideal for family vacations or weekend getaways. Just 45-60 minutes from Richmond, Williamsburg, Jamestown, & Yorktown!
This is a lovely and quiet neighborhood. We encourge you to enjoy yourself and have fun, but we do want you to know upfront that quiet hours are between 10pm and 7am.
  • Hubby and I wanted some quiet time, away from it all. We loved staying in this house outside of Urbanna. The house had everything that we needed. There were three nice bedroom with good closet space. Two of the beds have foam toppers, and the other (master) is very firm. There are 2-1/2 baths, which are very nice (including a soaking tub in the master). My only comment would be that the drainage in the stand-up shower in the master could have been better (shower mats were always squishy). The open floorplan is very nice, and there is a good laptop workspace. The kitchen was extremely well-stocked, and we were able to cooks full meals. There is a Keurig with ample K-cups supplied. Plenty of towels and bedlinens. The thing that we loved the most was the screened porch off the family room. Wow! it's surrounded by trees, and has a beautiful teak table and chairs, as well as a ceiling fan. We spend a LOT of time just chilling on the screened porch. From there, you won't see a single neighbor -- just nature. There's also a nice porch in the front of the house, which get really good sun for part of the day. Important to remember that the house is fairly isolated. It's one mile to town (and Urbanna is charming, but very small), a good portion of that on gravel roads. There is no high-speed internet, although we were actually able to stream on the MiFi, as long as neither of us made any other demands on the MiFi at the same time. Great place to get some peace and quiet, but you're going to have to drive to get to decent hiking. Still -- it was exactly what we were looking for.

  • Great house. Has everything you need.

    Dan2020-01-05T00:00:00Z

  • Nice place off the beaten path!

    Michael2019-12-05T00:00:00Z
  • The house was very clean and comfortable, well-stocked as well. The setting too was peaceful and quiet, though not far from downtown Urbanna. Overall, we highly recommend the house.

  • Great host and property. Will definitely stay there again.

    Kathy2019-11-03T00:00:00Z
  • The pictures do not do the location justice, as it feels much bigger in person. Our party of six felt comfortable and we were able to relax without feeling confined. The space was very clean and well maintained with a nice selection of utensils and cookware as well as a Keurig with tea and coffee on hand! The experience was easy, affordable and extremely relaxing. My group has already decided if we come back to the area we will likely try to get the same place again!

    Damon2019-10-13T00:00:00Z
  • This home was an amazing home. It was very clean and had plenty of amenities, including bed linens, towels, cookware, and a coffee maker with a huge selection of k-cup flavors. The huge screened in porch was a nice treat too. There is plenty of parking in the gravel driveway for cars, and is situated in a nice quiet neighborhood. It is a great location for exploring Urbanna. I would definitely stay again!

321 Pinder Place aka Fort Nonsense is a 3 story home on Urbanna Creek. Full-time residents occupy the basement, 2nd story and 3rd story apartments. The 1st floor is occupied by the homeowners. The newly renovated rental apt is located on the South side of the house in-between the 1st and 2nd floors, it is a studio with it's own deck. Renters will have access to the yard, dock and kayaks as well. Restaurants and shopping are a 5 min walk into historic Urbanna. We welcome all good, kind people.
The Treehouse is a cozy little spot that is near and dear to me; it's the first apartment I lived in at the Fort. My husband and I renovated it last summer and it's just fantastic! Great local coffee and homemade breakfast goodies are provided. There are plenty of cooking amenities if you want to cook. Yes, it's a pull out sofa bed but it's very comfortable and the linens are nice. It's easy to open and close. The view and water access are worth any reservations you may have!
Great walkable town. You can stroll up to town, shop and try the restaurants; walk or jog the mile that goes around the neighborhood(My dogs and I make the loop every morning😁) Walk to the town marina or just veg out on your private porch, the dock or the lounge chair in the yard. We have a hammock also, just ask.
  • Very charming space with modern appliances and thoughtful touches to make your stay cozy. Make sure you read the instructions for check-in prior to your arrival, especially if you arrive after dark! The instructions are very clear, and photos are provided as well.

  • The Tree House is very tastefully decorated and has many special touches. The view of the river and the grounds are especially beautiful. If sleeping in, dining out, shopping, and stargazing are your thing, then you should put this gem on your list.

    Mary Beth2019-08-03T00:00:00Z
  • A friend and I had a wonderful weekend away at Fort Nonsense! The space itself is thoughtfully crafted and full of artistic touches that make for a very well-designed little home away from. The bed is a pull out bed which can only be so comfortable I think. I slept just fine but my friend had a more difficult time with the mattress. As other viewers have commented, it’s well worth it for the unique space and location right on the mouth of the Rappahannock. It was so cool to have kayaks available, as well as a beach umbrella. We took them down to the beach nearby and had a delightful day. Urbanna was quaint, not a ton to do we found but after dinner Saturday night, we returned to the treehouse for some wine and board games. It’s a quiet and restful place - highly recommend. Thank you again, Megan and Rikki!

    Meghan2019-07-21T00:00:00Z

  • A fantastic location to explore all of the Northern Neck & Middle Peninsula area from, as well as a beautiful setting to relax and unwind right on a very serene cove just off the Rappahannock River ... Carolyn & John were the best hosts with several very thoughtful touches all weekend during our stay. Their friendly dog Sally? was also definitely part of the very welcoming team ! One of best AirBnb experiences we have ever had from first contacts, reservation, greetings, knowledgeable advice of the area and its unique history, to daily chats, and a genuine, heartfelt welcome to their home as if we were part of the 'family' made it such a great weekend for my wife and I ... • Our stay at Julian & Anne's place was better than we expected. We were there for a Christmas stay and love the place. It was the perfect size for my little family. The kids love the kiddie playground set in the back. Everything was there for us to have a good family time. It was super clean. The hosts were very nice and came over just to say "hi". Btw, Belle Isle park is just 10 min away; it is an awesome place to have a picnic and for the kids to play in the playground just 20 feet away!

  • Our stay here was amazing, my best airbnb experience yet! We had six adults (three couples) and it was plenty of space, especially since there's outdoor seating too. Julian was very accommodating to several requests we had and flexible. The house was very clean and had everything we needed. We had no trouble cooking. Julian even pulled kayaks down to the river for us and we had a blast! Highly recommend.

  • Julian and Anne were the best, friendliest and helpful hosts. The house was bright, clean and beautiful. Great quality, pretty sheets and towels. Comfortable beds. I loved waking up there, it was so peaceful. Great wide views of the Rappahannock river. They had kayaks for us to use. We fished off the dock. And Belle Isle state park is very close and great for biking and walking trails that go along the river. We hope to return.

    Mary2019-08-24T00:00:00Z
  • We had another great stay in Lancaster...our third stay. It's never long enough. We're already looking forward to next year. Julian and Anne continue to be wonderful hosts.

  • My family and I were attending a wedding nearby and we decided to make a mini-family vacation. The house was spotless and had everything we needed during our stay. We fished of the dock, trapped some crabs, swam and kayaked. The most important thing was that we got to do were to relaxed, enjoyed the gorgeous view and got the “big city” out of us. Julian made sure that we had everything that we needed and enjoyed ourselves. Thank You and we will be back.

  • Lillian’s place was ABSOLUTELY perfect! Three of my girlfriends and I came to Irvington for a girls weekend getaway trip from Richmond. We couldn’t be happier with our stay. The house is adorable on the outside and even better on the inside. It was impeccably clean and well-decorated. We kept commenting about how there are little things that really make a difference (hooks in the right places, long mirror in the bathroom, bottle opener by the back deck, etc.). Since it was a chilly January trip, we loved sitting in front of the fireplace at night. And I stayed in the king bed upstairs and it was so comfortable and the sheets were so pretty and soft. We were right next door to the Dog and Oyster vineyard, and loved doing a tasting and eating oysters. We also visited Merroir for lunch, Dredge for dinner, The Local for breakfast (we love the B-Triple-C there!!!), NN Burger for lunch and the Dub Shack for dinner. We drove out to Windmill Point to see the water. We also went to Good Luck Cellar for a wine tasting in Kilmarnock and it was SO good and the staff was awesome. Unfortunately The Tides Inn and Adrift were closed for the season or we could’ve visited those, too. The house is in the perfect location to do all of the above, and it’s so comfortable and welcoming that we enjoyed hanging out around the living room in front of the fire and on the awesome screened-in porch. We would definitely love to visit again!!!

  • Wonderful host and lovely place to stay in the off season. Every little touch was thoughtful and first class.

  • A very clean and neat cottage. Easy check in rapid responses from the owner and placed in a wooded area near Irvington (walking distance). A good value and we will use again.

  • Charming, cozy, relaxing, clean , well-appointed, and in a quiet location. This was perfect for our get-a-away this fall. Lillian had the cottage ready for our arrival and provided us with great local info. Check out The Vine for vino and small plates.

  • We loved this little cottage. It was clean, comfortable and cozy! There were so many lovely features like the screened in back porch. Check in and check out was easy and the host had great communication! I would highly recommend!!

  • Lillian's place is picture perfect!! My husband and I rented Etta's place for us and the rest of our wedding party to have brunch, get ready and take pictures before our wedding at my childhood home in the upper part of the county. The "tent" is GORGEOUS and Lillian was very quick to respond to any and all questions we had. I would absolutely recommend a stay a here in sweet little Irvington.

  • Catherine’s place was AMAZING. We were there for a girls trip and it could not have been a better time. They have a great fire pit, lovely accommodations, and enough activity nearby (winery, restaurants) to keep us happy. Very relaxing weekend and would definitely go back.

  • This is such a lovely place - filled with light and gorgeous views... and such a nice attentive host with great communication and attention to details ! Wonderful weekend!

    Caroline2020-01-19T00:00:00Z
  • My family (husband, daughter, 2 grandchildren and mother-in-law) spent our Thanksgiving Holiday at Catherine’s place and it was wonderful! Everything from the location being close to Kilmarnock and other small towns, to being on the water and the serenity of the house. The view of the bay when we woke up in the mornings was beautiful The house was “sparkling” clean as the prior reviews stated. The open spaces were perfect for our family gathering and the decor made it very relaxing. We all enjoyed cooking our Thanksgiving dinner together. We made some great memories. Cathy was a wonderful, responsive host. We will definitely be returning soon. I highly recommend staying at Catherine’s place.

    Karen2019-11-30T00:00:00Z
  • We loved this house! The beach house is comfortable and clean and complete with everything you need for a getaway to the Bay! We loved the fire pit, private beach, and the morning sunrises over the Chesapeake! Quick drive to White Stone, Kilmarnock and Irvington. We stayed with my parents and two kids - plenty of room to spare!

Cozy vacation spot only twelve feet from the waters of Carter Creek. Private, quiet, beautiful.
    The perfect couples getaway.
  • We had our wedding at the Tides seven years ago and come back to the area every chance we get. We noticed the Jimmy and Sook Crab Shack while on a boat tour of Carters Creek one year and we were thrilled at the opportunity to stay there during the Oyster Festival! The place certainly doesn't disappoint! It's very cozy with all the amenities one could expect and a stunning water view. Thank you, Andy, for being a great host! We will surely return.

    Kevin2019-11-03T00:00:00Z
  • This unique and beautiful cottage is just a few steps from the water with a great dock and wonderful kayaking. The cottage is very clean and has many interesting touches. Andy is a friendly and accommodating host. You can't go wrong staying here.

    Mark2019-10-30T00:00:00Z
  • Fantastic weekend getaway!! The location right on Carter’s Creek is amazing. Spent majority of our time outside fishing, kayaking and soaking up some rays on the dock. As some previous guests have said, the kitchen contains a microwave, toaster oven and mini fridge only. Since we are seafood lovers, we do prefer cooking in especially with all the fresh, local seafood in the area. So we utilized the outdoor gas grill with a burner and did just fine for the two of us. The place was wonderful, cozy and comfortable!! Andy was extremely helpful and hospitable! We will be coming back to The Crab Shack!!! Side note: If anyone is interested in a Fishing Charter, we had a great fishing trip with William Saunders of Rappahanock River Charters.

    Jennifer2019-09-21T00:00:00Z
  • Magic! I look forward to this all year. Its small but big the kitchen has no stove and only a dorm size fridge. So, if your planning on cooking ever night this is not your place. However, if you are like me and want a vacation from cooking and cleaning this is your place. Lots of lovely restaurants coffee shops in the area. It does have a lovely BBQ if you want to cook outside...Its a lot like glamping with a dock! Just lovely Thanks Andy see you next year :)

    Mandy2019-08-26T00:00:00Z
  • This place is a little gem. You get a lot of amenities and a lot of privacy. It's really comfortable and easy to figure out. For two people it's perfect. We spent four nights there and could have easily spent a whole week. We were sad to leave.

    Patrick2019-07-05T00:00:00Z
  • A very nice quite hideaway. Just enough space to enjoy a few days away for the city life. The outdoor shower is outstanding so give it a try.

    Ron2019-06-18T00:00:00Z
  • Pictures are spot on, beautiful and serene. Great place to spend time. Recommend the outdoor shower and a late night lounge out on the pier. Great little get-away spot.

    Andrew2019-05-05T00:00:00Z
  • The pictures are spot on - only thing to be prepared for is just HOW CLOSE you are to beautiful Carters Creek. The pictures show it, the listing says it, but, until you get there, you won't believe it. The sunrises were spectacular. The home is neat and clean and bigger than we expected. Anything we could have needed seemed to be there (would have loved to shower outdoors, but, hadn't been set up for the summer yet)! The bed is cozy, linens delightful (didn't try the futon, so, nothing to report there). Water pressure in the shower was great, nice thirsty towels were a plus. The quiet is difficult to describe...other than hearing a distant chat from water men on the creek, birds, bees and wind were the only other sounds. Even the boats going out from the marina across the way seemed to be particularly quiet. It was wonderful. We rode our bikes all around the neighborhood - friendly neighbors waved and smiled, kids "rode along" with us for a while, we even had a gorgeous Golden Retriever greet us on a side rode and jog along with us all the way to the end of the street! He seemed to be appreciative of our attention and we just loved the company. Super fast to get to Irvington or Kilmarnock. if you are at all "on the fence" about this location - get off the fence and make your reservation with Andy!

My place is close to Williamsburg Va. Richmond Va. Geo. Washington's Birthplace, Stratford Hall, Birthplace and Home of Chesty Puller, The Chesapeake Bay, restaurants and dining, nightlife. You’ll love my place because of the location, the ambiance, the quiet and beauty .
I believe that you will find our little apartment quiet cozy and comfortable, as well as beautiful and peaceful. There is a full kitchen or fine dining not too far away Less than 3 miles. Upon your arrival, I or a member of my family or possibly a neighbor will be on hand to greet you, hand you the key and answer any questions you may have.
A lot of water sports and boating take place as Dymer Creek is an access point to the Chesapeake Bay. During the summer a lot of summer residence and other vactioner's are around.
  • Short over night trip for us and we arrived after dark. Wish we could have stayed an extra day to see the sights, because the views driving home were amazing! Very fast responses from host.

    Tyler2019-09-29T00:00:00Z
  • Bryan was a great host and we really enjoyed the comfort and layout of this apartment. The setting was beautiful.

    Joel2019-09-21T00:00:00Z
  • Very nice. TV broke and host replaced right away. Had to extend one day, but had no problem.

    Bill2019-09-03T00:00:00Z
  • My husband and I needed a relaxing getaway, to recharge. Bryan's place allowed us that opportunity and we were able to bring our dogs. The house is in a great location easy drives to beaches, hiking, food and shopping. Bryan showed us where the kayaks were and how to get into the river, easy access and wonderful kayaking. Everyone in the neighborhood is super friendly. As others have mentioned there is a family upstairs, which Bryan is very clear about. I would recommend if you are a light sleeper to bring earplugs as they are up early. We will definitely be back in the near future.

    Katherine2019-07-07T00:00:00Z
  • Great place for a great price ! Would definitely go back if I’m visiting the area again

    Jenna2019-06-30T00:00:00Z
  • Bryan’s place was great! The only downside would be if you’re a light sleeper, the people that live upstairs seem to walk heavily! But other than that it was great, I didn’t see any canoes or bikes, but we didn’t need to use them!

    Shaw2019-04-28T00:00:00Z
  • At Bryan’s place you can expect someone who is very warm and welcoming without acting as a shadow. Every question was answered very quickly. He helped us with the the launch of the kayaks, recommended some great spots around town. All the nice spots to check out are at most 10 minutes away, vineyards (with dogs you can feed treats to), cool shops, NN Burger, Willaby’s (which has a small beach). Richmond is only an hour away with a great outlet shopping and Virginia Beach is a little further out, but if you have an extended stay and want to enjoy both the beach and the quietness of White Stone/Kilmarnock it’s worth staying here. It was very clean, he had coffee, plates, utensils, radio and board games to keep us busy. I will say you will have enough reception to use your gps or search on your phones internet, but not enough for anything else. Your hotspot will not work.

    Raquel2019-04-21T00:00:00Z

  • This is without a doubt the best-kept secret on the Northern Neck! The cottage is everything anyone needs for a quiet, relaxing stay, and Kendall goes above and beyond to make guests feel welcome! It is a beautiful setting, indoors and outdoors, and the perfect place to relax and enjoy the beauty of the area. It is secluded enough to have that "get-away" experience, yet close enough to great restaurants and venues. We recommend it to anyone coming to our area to discover how beautiful" Rivah life" can be!

  • Beautiful little cottage with many modern touches. The best part of this place are the gorgeous sunsets as it faces the water to the west. Great dock that would be a lot of fun to swim from in warmer months. Kendall was a fantastic host. At one point I had thought I had locked myself out, and Kendall responded immediately. Great host, great house.

  • Kendall was a wonderful hostess. The cottage was spotless and so cozy. The grounds were so beautiful and the cottage was so homey. All of the beds were comfortable and had high quality linens. I highly recommend a visit to Summerfield Cottage.

Search the web for Reedville, Virginia or the Northern. Reedville was named for Captain Elijah W. Reed (1827-1888). In 1874, Reed, a sea captain from Maine, came south to the Chesapeake Bay and recognized the potential of the menhaden fishing industry. As early as the 1620s, in the area which became New England, the Native Americans had taught the Plymouth Colony's settlers the value of burying menhaden in each hill of corn, as fertilizer. Captain Reed moved his business from Brooklin, Maine, to the Northern Neck, and brought to the established community of watermen a method of extracting large quantities of oil from the fish, by rendering them by the millions. Their oil was used as a lubricant and in lighting, as whale oil was; and the leftover bones and carcasses were valuable as fertilizer. He opened the first processing plant. By 1885, Reedville was heavily engaged in the menhaden fishing industry. Menhaden processing factories on Cockrell Creek produced fish oil, meal, and fertilizer from menhaden. The menhaden fishing industry brought tremendous wealth to Reedville and to Northumberland County. Reedville, a town of approximately 500, was once known as the wealthiest town in the United States, due to its large income produced by the menhaden industry.[2] Fishing boat captains and factory owners, who made their fortunes from menhaden, built homes along what is now Main Street. Dozens of fish processing factories, most recently Omega Protein Corporation (successor to Zapata Haynie, Reedville Oil and Guano Company, and Haynie Products Company) and Standard Products Company, have dotted the Northumberland coastline near Reedville and other fishing communities. Omega Protein remains the largest industrial organization in the area. The company, with several hundred employees, has a fleet of large oceangoing fish-harvesting vessels supported by a number of spotter aircraft. Menhaden, once caught, are cooked in large mass and processed for further use in various applications including as a protein additive for poultry feed; Tyson Foods is a large customer. Businesses in Reedville also offer sport fishing charters and regularly-scheduled cruises to Tangier Island. Lodging in the small community is offered in bed and breakfast establishments. Several large houses on Millionaire's Row are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. In 2008, newer homes were built in the last-remaining available lots on Millionaire's Row. The Reedville Fisherman's Museum has restored the oldest home in the community; known as the Walker House, it houses the museum in conjunction with adjacent buildings. The museum also has two vessels, the skipjack Claude W. Somers and the deck boat Elva C, which were entered on the National Register of Historic Places in 2005. The museum, which dedicates itself to preserving the watermen's heritage, has historical information about Reedville, the Chesapeake Bay, and the menhaden fishing industry. This Northern Neck 4 bedroom waterfront home is located on Bridge Creek, minutes from Reedville. Use our kayaks, catch crabs or fish off our dock. Launch your small boat or jet ski from the nearby marina and keep it at our dock during your stay. Reedville offers waterfront restaurants, the Fishermen's Museum and an ice cream parlor. Enjoy the nearby wineries on the Chesapeake Winery Trail or take a day cruise to Tangier Island. There’s plenty to see and do in the Northern Neck!
All four bedrooms are spacious, but I have no cribs or other equipment for babies, so feel free to bring your own.
The neighborhood is on a private road with very little traffic.
  • Christine’s place was perfect for a weekend get away! We had 9 people with plenty of room for everyone!

  • This property was the perfect getaway for our family of 7. The space was adequate for all of our needs with all of special touches to make us feel at home. Stepping out into the backyard, all of your cares melt away with the peaceful view of the water.

  • One of the best places we have been to. So serene and lovely.

    Jerson2019-08-11T00:00:00Z
  • We had an amazing vacation. So peaceful and very relaxing. Very clean spacious house on a great property. We kayaked, crabbed, fished, and enjoyed the big yard. No need to leave the property. Thanks for being a wonderful host. Best family vacation we’ve had.

  • Christine was a wonderful host! She was very quick to respond to my questions and super accommodating with our requests. The house was very clean and right on the water. We hung out at the dock, went swimming and kayaking, and enjoyed some lawn games in their big yard! Thanks so much, Christine!

  • Christine's place was very clean and spacious. She was quick to respond to my questions. Whether you are fishing or just sipping on a cup of coffee at the private doc it's just so peaceful. I had a wonderful and restful stay here. Will definitely be visiting again!

  • The house has plenty of space for a family. There is a bedroom on the main floor and the other three bedrooms are on the second floor. The house is on the water. The hosts have kayaks and plenty of life vests, so you can enjoy the water. The town of Reedville is 10 minutes away. I recommend taking a day trip to Tangier Island. You have just enough time to visit the isolated beach and grab a soft shell crab sandwich for the boat ride home. Arriving at the house, opposite the turn, look for an American flag in a cluster of mailboxes. You turn on a gravel road. Follow the road around the curve. You will see a driveway split, you take the first driveway.

This cozy cottage is perfect for couples or the whole family . This space is the perfect beach get away with a full bathroom, kitchenette and an outdoor gas grill with eating space. Tucked away with woods on one side and the beautiful Chesapeake bay on the other side. Lay with windows open at night to hear the waves crashing and walk down to the private sandy beach that is perfect for swimming , playing , fishing or just relaxing
Guests will love the seclusion of this cottage . It is situated on a 1 acre lot a short distance from the main house. It is private and tucked away, but amenities such as public boat launches , stores , restaurants , and the fisherman's museum are just a short drive away.
We have the best of both worlds here. Tucked away from the hustle and bustle with wooded areas and the bay. At times you can stay out here for days and not see a soul or you can go into town and visit the locals. Everyone is friendly and welcomes you with a smile. The sunrises are spectacular and the seafood cant get any fresher .
  • Great stay !! The house is spotless. Our family had fun at the beach.

  • Lovely quiet location. Beach and trails, peaceful spot, dogs welcome. Ola was present anytime we needed anything, but otherwise let us have the quiet break we needed. If you need to work online while on vacation, you may need to go to the porch of the main house for wifi. I personally enjoyed being offline for a bit!

  • Great place to go to if you want to get away from everyday life. I went with friends and we all enjoyed the space and outdoor view. I'd definitely go back again. Check in and check out was easy, and hospitality was great.

  • This is an amazing place!!! The host were so welcoming and more than accommodating plus super friendly!! The views and private beach is wonderful! The only draw back for me was the huge birds that I had to worry about my little Yorkie being scooped up by but the host warned me immediately about the danger so all was good just had to keep an extra close eye on him!! My children had a great time and my parents made much needed memories with our family!! Thank you Olga and Chris for being the best host thus far on my Airbnb adventures!!!

  • Our stay at OC's Peace of the Bay was quaint, cozy and overall well accommodating to our party (including our retriever). The bungalow itself was a clean and comfortable sleep, and the couches were great for lounging and playing board games. The first morning in our stay our golden retriever had a bad stomach from drinking bay water and Ola gave us a container of rice to cook up for her and it was a lifesaver as our retriever quickly recovered. Crabbing in the bay was thoroughly enjoyable as well, and we went kayaking in the inflatable kayaks every minute we weren’t waiting out stormy weather or sleeping; we had multiple catches which we took home with us. In addition to crabbing and fishing from the kayaks there was fishing to be had from the shore. It’s amazing to sit by the fire pit and stargaze with the constant wind coming off the bay. A beautiful location and such a quaint bungalow. Ola and Cody were wonderful hosts.
