  • The most loving and caring hosts you will ever find! Every one in the family is so warm, welcoming and helpful. They treat you no different than a family member without compromising on your privacy and space. Its like staying at your own house and family, just in a much more beautiful place :)

  • Thankyou so much for welcoming me into your home and your beautiful family! From the moment I walked through the door It felt like I was part of the family. Great tips for the knuckles Hikes, amaizng food and the best few days exploring tea plantations, factories and Kandy. English is amazing so communication was really easy and could have some good conversations finding out about Sinhalese culture and your lives! It was so hard to leave this place! Thankyou so much and I can’t wait to come back! Would highly recommend a stay with this family if you want an authentic, genuine stay in the knuckles!

  • I don't even know where to start to say how amazing is this places. I made a reservation for 2 days and I end up staying 5 dias in total. It's really strange how a place like this can be that beautiful. I arrive because I reas that you can walk the knuckles from here without a guide. It was true but what I like the most about my stay is the mountain Hunnasgiriya that it's in the background of the village. There a lot of beautiful hikes that you can do just around the maintain. Each with it's particular view. There are hidden temples, small religious places and villages all around the place. The other thing that makes this places so special was staying with this incredible family at where super kind with me. They treat me as a family and prepare me tee all day. They prepare authentic Sri Lankan food and they are genuinely interested in learning from travelers and they will share you details about their garden, the cooking and the properties of the ingredients. They were always smiling and having fun. It was nice seeing a family so happy.

  • Accomodation is peaceful and quiet. Whole family make sure it feels like home. There are not tourists in this locality. You can discover true life in Srí Lanka highlands.

  • We had such a wonderful time with this lovely family. They are so kind, helpful and make you feel like a part of the family. This is also a great location to explore the knuckles mountain range and surrounding areas. The family provided great local tips for getting around. Do not hesitate booking with them! We hope to be back in the future.

  • The family is awesome, incredibly warm and loving and makes every effort to make sure their guests have a pleasant stay. The food was delicious, maybe a bit expensive, but incredibly huge portions. We felt very comfortable. The only drawback: The house is located on a street and the buses are loud in the bedroom to hear.

    Christoph2019-03-31T00:00:00Z
  • We felt like part of the family. This was one of our favourite places we stayed in on our entire trip. A wonderful family that welcomes you into their home. Delicious food. Good place to hike into the knuckles and get out of any touristy areas.

Its a unique place surrounded by misty mountains, water falls, tea gardens, birds and animals with tea estate workers. We offer nature, fresh water from the knuckles, delicious local food with what is grown in the garden. A special guided tour to the knuckels peak with a local man. Experience with adventure, nature and a true Sri Lankan experience.
  • Senaka's Knuckles Delta Cottage is out of this world! His cottage is a wonderful personal space with his quirky and artistic touches. It is very comfortable and cosy cottage. The location is beautiful and surrounded by tea estates and forested Knuckles Peak with beautiful waterfalls and hiking trails. Senaka was a wonderful host and went out of his way to make us feel welcome. Kumari cooked scrumptious meals and helped us feel welcome. We are definitely waiting for the next opportunity to head back - this time with more days in hand.

    Anirban2020-02-13T00:00:00Z
  • What my husband and I mostly value and take away from our 3day stay with Senaka is that he enabled us to look and feel into the life being lived by people in a mountain village, which hasn’t been negatively impacted by tourism. Watching the woman harvest tea every day, seeing children go and come from school, hearing them from far chatting like little birds, gifting monks with food for the day and Senaka’s patience and enthusiasm to answer all our questions and share his life story with us, make these 3 days truly unforgettable. Senaka’s and Komati’s hospitality and generosity is absolutely outstanding! We only realized once we were there, that we were the closest possible to the start of the knuckles hike (only 10min walk to the start), which was great as we were the first people on the track and had a very peaceful and quiet walk up with our gentle and caring guide Ari. What Senaka is offering is (in my opinion) what air b&b truly stands for.

    Silke2020-01-31T00:00:00Z
  • Perfect peaceful getaway! Highly recommended especially for those looking to stay right by the Knuckles range. Also, it is far from the city so get whatever you think you’ll need before heading there (e.g. ingredients if you want to cook). Other than that, Senaka and Kumari (and her kid!) will be there to make you feel extra comfortable during your stay :)

    Nics2020-01-22T00:00:00Z
  • Excellent place, aligned with nature. We loved Multi (dog) who was our trekking guide!. He was so protective of us, and took us to knuckles mountains and got us back nicely. Every other traveller was going with a human guide. Here we went with Multi!. And about Seneka, the host and the folks who for him. Seneka is an exemplary human being. His knowledge, his humility and kindness - you dont meet such people often in life. His staff loves him and he is touching/transforming the lives of the the community/villagers around him Every part of the house was thought and designed by Seneka with the material available locally. His staff took care of us so well. Every meal was so yummy and they took care of us very well. If you are off to knuckles, this is the place to stay.

    Kanthi2019-04-20T00:00:00Z
  • The closest place there could be to climb the Knuckles range. The private cook was an unexpected bonus.

    Andrew2019-04-03T00:00:00Z
  • It is a corner of Paradise for all nature lovers and hiking, comfort and more! Small house with kitchen area and bed in mezzanine. We are far from any village but the fridge was full and Senaka and his employee, Komalai, take care of your dinners by the fire for an unbeatable price. His little house is lost in a tea plantation, 2 steps from a beautiful natural pool and a waterfall. You are at the foot of a beautiful hike (3h climb) with a 360 ° view at 2000m altitude. Senaka has lived a lot in Italy and comfort, hospitality and cuisine are a nice mix of the best of both cultures. He managed perfectly our arrival and departure from his "pretty end of the world". Lovers of calm, hiking or meditation to see absolutely! Catherine and Alain. La France.

Misty mountains, rolling tea plantations, cascading waterfalls and quaint hilltop villages- these are some of the sceneries you can come-across when you travel towards the Knuckles Mountain Range which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This eco-residence is built by mainly using natural stones and reclaimed materials to create an elegant and sophisticated family residence. It has a strong environmental aspect to the work. Conservation is fundamental to the Retrouvius ethos that any “green” credentials are almost accidental. These reclaimed pieces of materials give the domestic interiors a richness and sense of long use and care. This residence which overlooks a tea state and the peaceful Misty mountains is an ideal holiday spot to relax and enjoy the beauty of nature. It is also a private getaway for family and friends.
The Misty Mountain Residence is situated near the Knuckles conservation forest by the Knuckles peak road where you can reach via Bambaralle or Gomeriya in the Knuckles mountain range, Sri Lanka’s misty mountains of Dumbara. The breathtaking scenery of the luxuriant range of mountains do indeed resemble the knuckles of a clenched fist. As you dive towards this area the distant mountain ranges emerge in layers of blue, green, gold and brown. The five distinctive peaks of the Knuckles range become visible in a haze of misty azure. The beauty of the scenery has to be seen to be believed. It is also home to an exceptional array of endemic animal, birds and plant species. Nearby natural waterfalls, natural freshwater pools and tea plantation enrich the surroundings which are at a comfortable walking distance

An ideal place if you are an adventurous nature love as this place offers you ranges of hiking and trekking routes. The facilities at the bungalow is fitting to the nature of the place, being adequate for all your main needs. The perfect getaway from the hustle and bustle of city life. Nearby Places Mini worlds end , Gerandi Ella , hike to the Nitre cave, Meemure.
Barking Deer lodge is so named because when we first built the bungalow we could see barking deer in the forest down below from the house.
This is UNESCO declared world heritage site of Sri Lanka. The knuckles mountain range is home to many species of fauna and flora. The house itself is located on top of a mountain so it is very quiet and peaceful.
  • Barking Deer Lodge is a great place if you are looking for gorgeous views, pretty garden flowers everywhere, quiet spots scattered around the lawns to sit and read, and simple but all-you-need rooms. Siresena and his wife are fabulous cooks with kind smiles, and were the perfect caretakers: present when you needed them and yet unobtrusive. I look forward to returning for another beautiful sunrise and refreshing mountain air!

  • This was our second stay at Barking Dog and the view seems to get better. We enjoyed a BBQ with our family overlooking the valley our kids love this place. The house keeper left us alone but was on hand if needed. This is a remote location so bring your food with you the kitchen is well equipped and has a fridge with a small freezer. This is a rustic gem. We will be back.

  • Barking deer is a beautiful location with a such a stunning view. The house is basic but it has everything you need and it was clean. The house keeper is hard working and was there if we needed him but left us in piece if we didn't we had a really pleasant stay here. A tip for finding the place after 13 kms look for a black and white sign showing Kelagamma and Knuckles windy bear right and take a immediate sharp right sign posted Eagles nest.

Meemure Landu Sewana is a old village style house built with clay walls. Surrounded by green jungle like backyard. Plenty of trees and animals living around. This maybe not a luxury place, but it sure is cosy and comfy to be culled up for the night. We also have a backyard are cleaned up to put up a tent and a bonfire to enjoy a BBQ at night. You can also enjoy some local beverages if you prefer. We small rooms and a share bathroom for now. We can provide all 3 meals.
House has 3 small rooms. Good parking space too. We will take you to the well known natural pools located within about 2km distance. Now walking may take a little time as the rivers are hidden inside the forest. There are paddy fields that is cultivated seasonally. Just around the house also we have plenty of trees with seasonal local fruits. These are grown with nature, not artificially planted.
Its a village town. But lot of guests amd travellers passby. Mostly the enviornment is quiet and calm. You can hear many insects and animals throughout the day.
  • From the very first moment we arrived until the very last minute of our stay, we have been treated and taken care of by Wasanthe and Kumari from the bottom of their hearts. They are the warmest and most attentive hosts we have ever met (and we have travelled a lot around Asia) and we got spoiled every day. Wasanthe guided us to places and waterfalls that we would never be able to find ourselves and explained a lot about his mud house and its history. Kumari made us fresh fruit juices, delicious snacks and tasty meals every day and is more than happy to show you how to cook her dishes. We knew there's no internet and telephone signal, but we were positively surprised that there's electricity and running drinkable mountain water from the taps and showers. Being part of Wasanthe and Kumari's life for five days, made our one month trip in Sri Lanka an unforgettable one. We absolutely highly recommend everybody to visit this place and enjoy this unique experience. We also have some special notes and tips: * Contact Chamila to arrange transportation from Hunnasgiriya to Meemure. To get to Hunnasgiriya you can take local bus from Kandy busstation which takes about 2 hours (depending which route the bus takes). There should be a van driving from Hunnasgiriya to Meemure every day around 13:00 pm but we haven't used that one. Chamila arranged us tuktuk pick up in Kandy all the way to Meemure which took 5 hours 30 minutes including a visit to Victoria Dam, a stop in Deanston Conservation Centre to buy our tickets to visit Knuckles and a stop to go to mini World's End. * It's better to make a reservation rather to arrive spontaniously. Because Meemure is so remote, Wasanthe and Kumari need some time to prepare their stock and buy ingredients for the meals. * When you leave Meemure back to Hunnasgiriya, you best take the van that stops right in front of this homestay. It leaves around 5:30 am. * We arrived in Sri Lanka two weeks after the Easter incident 2019 and we have never felt unsafe despite the negative travel advices from our goverment. We just felt that all these lovely Sri Lankan people suffer from the fact that tourists are staying away from Sri Lanka by cancelling their reservations. Really, this situation is not helping the Sri Lankan people and economy.

  • What can I say! To highly recommend this place wouldn’t do it justice. Wasantha and his lovely wife Kumari are unbelievably lovely people. Being a solo female traveler - I was made to feel so welcome and safe. If you’re after an authentic experience; eating beautiful Sri Lankan food cooked by Kumari (she even taught me a thing or two in cooking Sri Lankan food), hiking the incredible off-the-beaten track mountains with the locals, bathing in crystal clear waterfalls or just to relax in the courtyard reading a book. Plus you are completely offline here. No wifi. No reception. How great to escape the daily hustle and bustle to this magical part of the world. Bliss. Highly, highly recommend. Thank you Wasantha and Kumari for having me. Thank you Chamilla for organising this for me.

    Simone2018-04-04T00:00:00Z
  • I'm at a loss of words for Meemure. The most beautiful village I've ever seen, and I have seen quite a lot. The beauty is that it is almost untouched and very prestine. It takes about 4 hours to reach from Kandy, but the drive is very scenic. Would recommend people to come in a bike or a 4x4 ....the roads are really really bad. Meemure is full of waterfalls and rivers, spend a few days there to relax. Theres no signal, so be prepared to be cut off from the world. Now coming to landu Sevan, chamila's uncle, Vasanth, was our host. He really took care of us while we were there. Took us everywhere and he made it his job to show the beauty Meemure. Definitely will be staying with Vasanth when I come back to Sri Lanka again. :)

    Darren2018-03-23T00:00:00Z
  • We have been very lucky to discover this fantastic and peaceful place located at the heart of the Knuckles Range of Sri Lanka. Our goal was to find a place from where we could start some hikes in this area (which seems not to be well-known among foreign tourists). This needed some planning in advance and Chamila was a great help in organizing our trip to Meemure and our hikes as well. This made our wonderful stay interesting and our dreams about hiking in these beautiful mountains came true :) The hospitality of our hosts, Wasantha and his lovely wife Kumari was great. The food they prepared for us was very good and traditional (most of the ingredients were from the local fields). Everything was clean and cozy, the house and the garden were beautiful and relaxing there was great, having a chat with Wasantha and playing chess a bit. Every time we had a question, we could ask and then there was a solution for everything. We went up a mountain with a really nice view and went to a river where Wasantha showed us a place with five waterfalls which was good for swimming as well. At our last day we hiked to Narangamuwa and saw the beautiful Lakegalla Mountain.

  • Great place! Amazing view of the kunkkles! Shermal is a welcoming host and listens to our needs or desires. We spent two nights and went on a wonderful day hike with a great guide presented by Shermal. The breakfasts are delicious and plentiful! As for other meals, the ones served were very good but can be a little expensive compared to what I am usually used to in Sri Lanka. To know before leaving: there is no electricity in the camp, which is very charming, charge your phones and cameras before arriving.

  • If you're traveling near Kandy and want to have a uniquely Sri Lankan experience, I highly recommend staying at Venture Camps. I've been to Sri Lanka four times, and this was one of my favorite experiences for a few reasons: 1. Shermal was an excellent host. We had to change plans a few times and he was completely understanding and accommodating. 2. The camp was gorgeous and remote. We had great views of the mountains during the day, and no light pollution meant amazing star gazing at night. Plus, the the private waterfall was really neat. 3. The camp was rustic but comfortable. Everything you need for a simple night or two in the mountains. Thanks, Shermal!

Area the Bungalow is located is commonly known as ‘Dumbara Valley’ and it stands majestically with its beauty surrounded by tea estates. It gets fairly colder as the day approaches the night, as the elevation of the area is 3000ft.
Hatale Worlds End Bungalow adds nothing but more beauty to the Bungalows offered by Meezan. Hatale region is comparatively colder to the regions where our other Bungalows are located. The Worlds End Bungalow is located towards peak of the mountainous area.

We only stayed one night, and wish we had time to extend our stay for at least another night or two (or a week). We were greeted by Akram, whom was very responsive to calls and messages and made sure our journey and arrival was safe. We lost our way as we drove a tuktuk ourselves up the mountain and the GPS was acting up, but Akram gave us good instructions on how to get to the accommodation effectively. The accommodation was a bit hard to get to, but definitely worth it! We parked our vehicle at the Tea Factory, and Akram organized a tuktuk for us to get up to our accommodation. The views are breathtaking, and the accommodation spotless, neat and very very well maintained. The gardens around the bungalow are well managed and lovely, and you can tell a lot of heart and care has been placed in maintaining the bungalow. Augustine, the accommodation caretaker is an amazing cook and is friendly, accommodating and very hospitable, bringing us tea, catering to our needs and even helped us bring in our washing quickly when there was a sudden downpour! We felt so spoilt and cared for, we did not feel like leaving. The food (we had dinner, breakfast and lunch) were all delicious and extremely generous, and we ate more than we usually do because they were so good. I think I will miss Agustine's cooking so much, I might come back to Sri Lanka and this bungalow just to have it again. Akram even took us on a hike up to the mountain peak, and a tour to the tea gardens where we tried our hand in picking tea leaves and learning about the process and agriculture. Akram was very friendly and knowledgeable about the plantation, and also gave us a lot of advice in helping with our trip plans. He is also a very good conversationalist, and shared his knowledge about Sri Lanka, the culture and many more. They care so much that we are happy with our stay, and went above and beyond to make sure all our needs were met (we even had a late checkout after enjoying home cooked lunch by Augustine to enjoy our surroundings a bit more before leaving). Taking a tuktuk down to the tea factory where we were parked, we were also treated to a tour inside the factory to see the processing of the harvested leaves and a tea tasting experience (At no extra cost! They just are passionate about tea and were happy to share!), where we also purchased bags of tea for souvenir at a very reasonable price. No other accommodation would have provided such a service! Just as we were about to leave, we realised our tuktuk wasn't starting and had been ransacked by monkeys. Akram and a few other workers helped us get it started again so we could be on our way. This is probably the best hospitality and service I've received, and I cannot recommend this place enough. However (very minor downsides), internet and cell service was a bit choppy at times, which was not a major problem because we were enjoying ourselves with the view and surroundings. Also hot water pressure was a bit low, but there's hot water so all was good anyway! As this bungalow is a bit secluded and situated in the plantation, there were also a fair number of bugs, which didn't really affect us much but just something to keep in mind. Great place to stay, highly recommend!!! Thank you Akram, Agustine, and everyone else that we met during our stay for the wonderful experience!!!

  • We stayed here for the last leg of our Sri Lanka trip and it was a perfect place to wind down after an amazing trip. It's secluded and a little difficult to get to, but the views are absolutely worth it. With views of the Knuckles on the left, the Victoria dam on the right, we spent our time at the bungalow, hiking, admiring the views, walking through the tea gardens and taking pictures of the stunning scenery. Terrence was an exceptional host! We reached the Hatale tea estates around 1 am and Terrence was around to guide us to the Bungalow. Hot face towels and hot tea at 1 am - bliss! He also organized a guided walk up to where the tea workers were, so I could get some pictures. The caretaker (Augustine) was earnest in his efforts and nothing was too much trouble for him. He made some tasty, homely meals for us! The rooms are spacious & clean. The bungalow is very private and we loved the quietude & calm ofthe surroundings.

This is UNESCO declared world heritage site of Sri Lanka. The knuckles mountain range is home to many species of fauna and flora. The house itself is located on top of a mountain so it is very quiet and peaceful.
  • This is one of the best places in Sri Lanka or in the world to experience the unique fauna and flora that is endemic only to this place. What a better place to enjoy the serenity of the unique Knuckles range staying at Eagles Crest. I personally have stayed in Eagles crest many years back and this is just amazing to experience it all over again. Full of trekking excursions for the adventures individuals. Amenities have improved with ample shower rooms , beds , sofas , garden tables and chairs surrounding the property. The care taker SIRISENA is the person who has been there from the start with his amazing hospitality and the tasty food he cooks. He is part of the place now for the last 22 years or so. This was the only place available for visitors at the start when I stayed 17 years back. I would definitely recommend any one who are looking for a short or long stay.
