Redesdale is a wonderful little country town with everything you need at hand to make your stay comfortable and relaxed. A,cafe, a pub and a general store all in walking distance from the cottage. The cottage is lovely and light filled, charmingly decorated with modern conviniences. Beautiful views of the surrounding area and friendly locals to offer advice and great food if you choose to eat at their venues. This place is a gem and just a short drive from Melbourne.
The house offers old world charm with all the modern conviniences. For the kiddies there is a springfree trampoline, play equipment and plenty of room to run around in. A BBq on the back porch, hammock to relax in. Claw foot bath to soak in. An outside campfire to sit around and take in the amazing star filled nights. Plenty of seating for entertaining. Although the house has wonderful log fire heating there is also a split system heating unit to warm or cool house down. Or open the doors and let the air flow through. Being so close to Eppolock, if you are into jet skiing or boating the lake is full and very quiet and serene. If you are into cycling the country roads offer a wide area to enjoy the beautiful scenery. National parks allow for dirt bikes. And Kyenton, Heathcote, Castlemaine, Bendigo are all short drives away. The heathcote winery district offers many celler doors. Everyone is friendly and up for a chat.
  • Really, a magical place. Our favourite parts were sitting on the back verandah at twilight, looking out over the rolling hills, speckled with grey sheep and wheeling cockatoos. The fire. The bath. Beers at the Redesdale pub. Exceptional host to boot.

  • We had a wonderful time in Redesdale. The location of the house is perfect walking distance to the pub. The place is big enough to accommodate 5 adults and 2 dogs.

  • Lovely place. Away from it all but with a brilliant pub & cafe right there. Only 20 mins either way from wonderful towns like Kyneton and Heathcote. Great garden for the dogs and kids too. Too much phone connection with Telstra and Optus for my liking but we went to get away. Most people would appreciate the service I imagine. Will come back in winter next time and try out that fire place!

  • Great stay, very easy

  • We loved Sally's cottage. We sadly only had a brief stay. It was a great blend of historic cottage with modern comforts and stylishly decorated. The bed was comfortable, shower great and check in was straight forward. It had a nice outlook on one side over a historic stone church amd was set back from the main road so quiet.

The homestead is the quintessential Australian farmhouse and was the centre a large sheep property. Five Gums is the name given to this property when the land was first released by the Government. The home sits in a tight bend on the seasonal Wild Duck Creek, not far from the iconic Wild Duck Creek Estate winery. The pleasures of life here include the creek, tranquility, fresh air, privacy, black nights, stars, beautiful light on the old river red gums.
The room with two single beds in it gives access also to a "sleep out", which is a room constructed on the verandah. This has a double bed in it. The arrangement is suited to parents in the sleep out and their two children in the single beds. The dining and lounge share the same space. There is a separate toilet and hand basin on the verandah outside the kitchen. There is a laundry in its own building outside. The kitchen is equipped with a modern Smeg gas stove and electric oven. There is also a Rayburn wood burning stove and oven, which you are welcome to use with care.
Heathcote's wine industry had its beginnings a long time ago but it is only in the last 15 years or so that it has really matured and expanded. The Heathcote area is good for wine because of the climate and the earth - this is, in places, blessed with Cambrian Greenstone, which is much sought after by wine makers. The iconic Wild Duck Creek estate put the town on the international wine lovers' map some years ago with its Duck Muck blend. Now the big names are here too, like Brown Brothers, but the many small and excellent wineries are what give the two its character. Even the French are here - Chapoutier have tasting room in the main street. The best place to get an idea of the area's wineries is in the tasting room of The Hub, in the main street opposite the National Bank.
  • We had a lovely time at Five Gums. It was secluded and quiet but with lots of space. The country style kitchen was fun and the wood heater kept the place toasty! The veranda out the back was so peaceful, we spent evenings and mornings relaxing with a drink and a book and enjoying nature!

    Phoebe2019-10-13T00:00:00Z
  • Great base for exploring Heathcote. Very peaceful, tranquil and private. Lots of wildlife around. Comfy beds and great kitchen! All you need for a pleasant weekend away.

  • Absolutely amazing place. So isolated and quiet! The house itself is a bigger than it looks in the pictures and the property is stunning! Great for early morning walks and exploring! The house is very cosy and has a very comfortable bed! Really appreciated the little dog toy left out for our fur baby too! We loved this place!

  • Wow! What a stunning location and excellent property. The surrounding scenery is breathtaking and a beautiful way to wake up in the morning. The house itself is cosy and very clean. The fire was great to have on the cold winters nights and the bed was very comfortable. We will definitely be back.

  • A beautiful house on a lovely property. We especially enjoyed the huge kitchen and lounging by the fire. A true gem. We will definitely be back.

  • This is a beautiful, peaceful house in a lovely place - listen to birds, the tawny frogmouth at night, see kangaroos showing off on the high ridge over the creek to the north, sit on the verandah in silence, lounge around in the expansive living area, and there is lots of room for many cooks in the huge kitchen.

Thank you for checking out Locksley Park, the perfect country getaway - a secluded twenty acre property in the heart of the renowned Heathcote wine region. This property is truly special, being surrounded by national park. Locksley Park is completely off-the-grid, running solely off tank water, gas cylinders, solar panels and batteries. Check us out on Instagram @locksley_park
Your dogs are very welcome! We just ask that they do not sleep on beds. There is a massive fenced area surrounding the house with lots of trees and places that they can explore. There are two goats, Samson & Delilah, and two horses, Cowboy & Harley, who will be glad of a pat and a carrot over the fence, but please do not enter their self-contained paddock, or allow your dog(s) in there. Locksley Park was originally a sheep station nicknamed ‘Mundy Gully’. In the 1800s, gold was found in the surrounding hills. Mundy Gully soon became a centre for miners prospecting for gold. If you turn left at the exit of the property and walk into the surrounding hills, you will come across remnants of the old mines. Legend has it that Ned Kelly was once spotted spending a night by the dam whilst on the run from authorities. Locksley Park is well known to Tooborac locals for the fig trees at the entrance of the property. To this day, locals have been known to come and ‘sample’ the seasonal harvest. The 'L' shaped house has cathedral ceilings throughout, with open plan kitchen, meals and large living area. The kitchen has a slow combustion stove with brick surround, stone bench tops and farmhouse sink. The meal and living areas have ample natural light, exposed timber, clawfoot bath in front of a two-sided fireplace. With an abundance of Australian native birds and animals outside your window, Locksley Park is a nature lovers paradise. Locksley Park is located 1 hour from Melbourne and the airport, 10 minutes to Heathcote and 45 minutes to Bendigo.
That’s the best thing about Locksley Park. You are surrounded by national park.
  • Rob's place is simply amazing! You don't even realise you are off-grid (batteries never dropped below 96%). Locksley has all the modern comforts of home but the best tranquillity the Heathcote surrounds has to offer. 10 mins to Heathcote for supplies and 6 minutes to the amazing Tooborac Pub for an ale (or 10...) and dinner - could you ask for better!? The bush setting is gorgeous and the 2 horses and 2 goats are lovely company. If you are looking for a getaway from the big smoke or just looking to unwind, Locksley is the place for you!

    Jake2020-03-11T00:00:00Z
  • Comfortable, clean and peaceful!! A very mindfully built and furnished accommodation.

    Jenni2020-03-09T00:00:00Z
  • We enjoyed our stay at Robert's off-the-grid house a lot! Despite the fact that you are literally in a forest, everything inside is modern and comfy including a shower with great water pressure. Lots of space, hip design. I was a bit concerned about the battery based on other reviews but in our case, it never went below 95%. One of the pleasant surprises was a great DVD collection with movies from the likes of Hitchcock, Tarantino, Jarmusch, Kubrick and so on - not the typical random mainstream cinema. The selection actually matched my taste with 99% accuracy, I wanted to re-watch every single DVD from the shelf!

    Denis2020-01-28T00:00:00Z
  • Great location. Really enjoyed the peace and quiet, and the abundant wildlife. The house is interesting and being off-grid added to this. It was a unique experience which I would recommend

    Michelle2020-01-26T00:00:00Z
  • Had an amazing stay at Robert’s place! The space was amazing and we loved the bathtub in the livingroom, what a fun idea! Watch out for the scorpions tho, we found one of those in the house. Overall had the best time, the house was beautiful and Robert was a great host to us! Definitely want to come back!!

    Kamilla2020-01-21T00:00:00Z
  • We had a wonderful stay at Locksley Park. Totally off-grid and in the middle of Australian bush - it's the perfect place to disconnect and unwind. While it is off-grid and you do need to do things like light a fire to use the stove/ cook your dinner, Robert and his team has everything prepared that you would need to make that easy (wood chopped, kindling collected - all neatly stacked just next to the house) Mind you, there is a butan stove top as well, but that is a lot less of an adventure! If you up for walking in nature, you can just step out the driveway and turn left, to wander through the nature reserve. You could also take your bikes into Heathcote and ride along the old Heathcote to Bendigo train line, or even just a short drive away are Turpin Falls, which are marvelous for a quick swim on a hot day! The Tooborac Pub brews their own beer and is quite the spot for people watching, as well as the many many wineries to sample (responsibly ;-)) Heathcote is also quite a substantial town, which really has all the things you may need (gluten free bread, a supermarket) and the cheapest coffee I have had since 1990's. We had a fabulous time - our only complaint is that we wish we were there for longer!

    Lucy2020-01-19T00:00:00Z

Enjoy the peaceful warmth of Noonameena, our 'bush resting place'. 'Noons' is a brand new straw bale luxury home on 20 acres of rural land, river views, easy access to Lake Eppalock and the Heathcote wine region. 'Noons' was built adopting Passive House principles which offers comfortable temperatures all year round, clean, fresh and filtered air throughout the home and is clean, calm and comfortable backdrop for your special stay. Kids are welcome as are your furry 4 legged friends.
'Noons' has been built adopting the energy efficient Passive House principles which means you will enjoy clean, fresh, natural air and stable comfortable temperatures throughout the home. Additional heating and cooling is typically not required in our home which is ventilated 24/7 via a ducted heat recovery system. A Passive home is a particularly comfortable place to be with ours being whisper quiet due to its rural location and thick straw bale external walls. Each bedroom has views of the water and enjoy panoramic views of the surrounding country side.
Access to the property is via bitumen road (10 minutes) from the Redesdale Pub with a ~400 metre gravel driveway to the home. Plenty of parking is available with two spots under cover. We are in a rural area with no neighbours to be seen or heard. Plenty of parking is on site including space for your boat or jet ski.
  • John’s place is a true gem a great house with lovely views of the surrounding countryside which can be viewed from the huge terrace. We initially booked for a week but ended up extending our stay for a few more days, highly recommended.

    David2020-03-12T00:00:00Z
  • This place is exactly as it looks in the photos. It's very private and secluded. The deck is vast too. What the pictures can't really capture is just the 'depth' or the dimension of the countryside it overlooks - it's been really well positioned with views across the river in one direction and a full view of the sunset in another. Some part of it is always in shade at any given time of the day too regardless of where the sun is. Inside the house (but particularly the living/lounge area) is also really spacious. Kitchen is extremely well equipped. Internet is excellent. Check-in was a snap with a keycode (unfortunately I didn't get to meet John coz I got held up at work and he had to leave before I was going to arrive). For what it's worth, can also recommend the pub lunch at the Redesdale Hotel. John was easy and quick to communicate with and went to quite a bit of trouble to make sure I had lots of info about the area. I don't really know much about the 'passive house' method but it works - outside temps were low at night and high (mid 30s) during some of the days but inside it varied very little over the whole stay. The dog area out the back is also perfectly secure as far as I could tell. Ticks every box!

    Malcolm2020-01-28T00:00:00Z
  • This place is so amazing! It's made for pure relaxation! We spent most of our time sitting on the deck, enjoying a glass of good wine and watching kangaroos, cows, sheep and the stunning view on the lake Eppalock. I would highly recommend this place to everyone who likes to slow down and enjoy the beauty of this region.

    Nikola2019-11-05T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful and secluded location, and gorgeous house. We really enjoyed our stay!

  • The family had a wonderful time in this great rural lo action. It was also a great chance to try out a PassiveHaus. So comfortable during a cold winters day, with no heating at all!

Welcome to our country retreat, listed January 2018. Set on 30 acres, the property gives its guests all the modern comforts essential for a relaxing time away, whilst providing the ‘out of town’ feel that makes you feel like you have left the city behind you. Enjoy the comfort of the recently renovated property, including modern kitchen facilities, spacious living room and great outdoor areas. Enjoy a walk in the paddocks and along Wild Duck Creek. Short distance to many wineries.
The property is conveniently located around a six minute drive to Heathcote and also close to several other attractions including: - Wineries (over 55 wineries in the region with some fantastic cellar doors) - Lake Eppalock for fishing and boating - Quaint local towns with great food and pubs like Toolleen, Redesale and Tooborac - Picturesque watering holes perfect for a swim - Mountain bike and dirt bike tracks nearby (the house has 2 adult and 1 child mountain bikes for guest use) You will have the entire property to yourself with no other homes located on the property. There are four dams (one that yabbies can be fished from by our guests) to explore along with Wild Duck Creek. Please be mindful that as a rural property, which includes dams and wildlife, care must be taken and in particular children should be supervised outside of the house. There is plenty of room for lounging, dining and exploring. There is a barbecue for guests to use and a fully equipped kitchen. We also provide you with fresh linen and towels. Whilst the property does not have its own livestock, you will be sure to see an abundance of local wildlife, including kangaroos, beautiful bird life, the occasional echidna, our neighbouring property have some adorable miniature ponies and if you’re lucky you will get to meet our local blue tongue lizard, Gary.

  • Adrians property is an excellent getaway location, it accomodated us super well for the AFL grand final weekend, the inside coonara fireplace was excellent and it really gave us a nice homely feel. Would definitely recommended for a trip to the Heathcote wine region as it was only a 5 minute drive to the main Heathcote town.

Bungalow on productive organic permaculture vegetable and fruit mini-farm bordered by both a river and a creek in a beautiful, quiet location with scenic Turpins Falls and The Cascades nearby, between the cafe-filled towns of Kyneton and Castlemaine.
It's safe, peaceful and quiet here - perfect for isolating during the current crisis! It is the tranquillity and beauty of this property, with its beautiful garden surrounded by undulating farmland with magnificent gum trees, and with scenic bushland and breathtaking natural features nearby, that makes this a unique experience. The wide range of vegetables and fruits that surround the bungalow, grown intensively by hand and hoe and organic methods only, will be of interest to many guests and add to the uniqueness of your stay here. Generally a couple or a single person stay, but some guests have stayed with a baby, toddler or young child and found the mini-farm an ideal attraction for the kids because of the pigs, chooks, very friendly goats, and two cute bouncy young collie dogs. Many adult guests love the animals too!
Metcalfe is an amazingly quiet, tranquil village considering how close it is to Melbourne - and it is exceptionally beautiful country too, with undulating farms overseen by huge gum trees, and steep hills covered with bush. The breathtaking natural features The Cascades and Turpins Falls are both in Metcalfe, and it is close to Mt Alexander, Black Hill Reserve, and Malmsbury with its botanic gardens and historic viaduct. 15 minutes away is Piper Street in Kyneton with its chef's-hatted restaurants; it's not much further to the historic goldfields towns of Castlemaine, Maldon and Bendigo; and both the Daylesford spa country and the Mt Macedon region, including Hanging Rock and Trentham Falls, are little more than half an hour away. There are many wineries in the region such as Coliban just up the road, and Sutton Grange only ten minutes away. You could drive up to Lake Eppalock or to the Heathcote wine region too. The quiet little hamlet of Metcalfe is positioned at the centre of all the attractions of Central Victoria, so it makes a great place to base your holiday.
  • Rob and Gunilla’s place was the best little hideaway for a weekend trip. The cottage is cosy but has everything you might need, and we loved the supply of dvds for a quiet night in. All the local tips were super helpful, and we loved interacting with all the animals and sitting on the porch watching the sun go down.

    Laura2020-03-15T00:00:00Z
  • Stayed for a week and had a great time, beautiful gardens full of native birds. It was great to see the fruit and veggies thriving without the use of pesticides and herbicides. The cabin is very comfortable and Rob and gunilla were terrific hosts

  • Well worth staying more than one night. This was what we both needed after a long road trip. Relaxing and enjoying the peace and quiet

    John2020-02-21T00:00:00Z
  • We had such a wonderful time on the mini farm. The garden was amazing and we got to use some of the fresh produce in our home cooked dinner. Rob and Gunilla were both lovely. We also recommend trying their cafe in town which served the best curry using fresh veggies from their farm. Hope to stay again!

    Zanda2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • Terrific for anyone, like us, who needs some green re-invigoration away from the dull grey of the city. Amazing gardens/farm, a plethora of birds and bees and other animals, and beautiful river very close by. Rob was very welcoming and it was inspiring to see his and Gunilla's self-made life in Metcalfe. I would very happily return.

    Camilla2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • Fantastic stay for a weekend away. Awesome garden to explore and super cute dogs. A draw full of DVDs to watch if spending a night in. Highly recommend swimming at nearby Turpin Falls.

  • The cute bungalow was located on an amazing little mini-farm; great location to regional Vic food and wine areas and close to Hanging Rock for the concert that we were heading too! The hosts were lovely, and very accommodating - letting us arrive an hour early!

  • Thanks so much for such a memorable stay in a beautiful pocket of Victoria. Your local recommendations helped to make our trip perfect, from Mia Valley Estate, to the Mt Ida Lookout, and especially the bottle of "The Gwen" was a superb touch. Mychelle and I both agree we'll be back as soon as possible. Thank you again so much for such a beautiful, clean, homely house to enjoy the wonders of the region. Cheers

Her place is located within 45 minutes drive of plenty of amenities, parks, wineries & attractions - but the view from the house and paddocks is equally as spectacular. Perfect for anyone who needs a secluded getaway and to unwind from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

Welcome to Providore on Playne, a beautiful guest-house located just one block from the main street of Heathcote. Renovated and full of light, it is a place for you to rest, cook, read, eat, sleep and drink. The front section of Providore is 100 years old. With three bedrooms and two bathrooms, the weather board cottage accommodates up to 6 people. Singles, couples and social groups are welcome.
"Our pantry is your pantry". The kitchen is the heart of my home and is part of the wide, open lounge and dining area. During your stay, you can access the fully stocked “Providore Pantry”. Replete with fresh and seasonal produce, non-perishable staples are included. I support local and you are welcome to harvest from the veggie patch, too. In the kitchen, make your own antipasto, charcuterie or tapas platter, using the easy to follow Providore guide. Enjoy a glass of wine; the Heathcote Wine Hub can help you select from hundreds of wines in the district. While we are famously known for Shiraz, you may like to sample other varietals. Favourites include Viognier, Marsanne, Rose, Tempranillo, Mouvedre and Grenache.

Nestled in the Harcourt hills, this studio apartment is perfect for a weekend retreat or country getaway. The studio is set back from the main property, adjacent to the open paddocks of this rural setting. Less than 10 minutes from Castlemaine and a short drive to the mountain bike track, vineyards, orchards and walks, Victoria’s apple capital makes for an idyllic escape. Dine on a seasonal breakfast and choose to either enjoy your seclusion or have a cuppa or meal with the friendly hosts.
The space is a newly renovated studio, complete with small kitchenette (coffees/teas/toast), cosy queen bed and gorgeous outlook. There’s a fold out couch for another double bed option. Relax outside under the veranda, or stroll around the nearby paddocks (we’re on an acre block, but back onto neighbouring pasture). The studio is part of a small regenerative property project. We’re re-planting trees, growing veggies, nurturing chickens and reviving the nearby creek.
The Harcourt valley is Victoria’s apple growing center. Explore the fruit orchards, enjoy wine tasting and lunch at premier vineyards, relax on scenic Mt Alexander or picnic at Harcourt’s Oak Forest. For more adventure, Harcourt’s new La Larr Ba Guawa mountain bike park has some of the best trails in the state and is a short ride from the property. Historic Castlemaine is 10 minutes down the road. Enjoy the food, galleries and parks of Victoria’s gold country.

Farmer Smith Estate is a boutique vineyard/property in the picturesque wine-growing region of Heathcote, Victoria. Set on 100 acres of rolling hills, located near the historic township of Redesdale, it is an escape to the country like no other. Vineyard, fruit trees and farm animals set the scene for the two holiday retreats-Sunset & Sunrise. Stunning! Pet friendly (one Dog only T&C's apply) retreats with incredible 360 degree views!
Farmer Smith Estate is located 1 hour from Melbourne airport and is a beautiful example of an operating vineyard with stunning views, undulating hills, peace and serenity. Pet friendly (one Dog only T&C's apply), this is the ideal estate to relax for a weekend (or more) with all the comforts of home. Sunrise Retreat with it's stunning views of the vineyard and morning sun comprises a large bedroom with ensuite bathroom, one king size bed and one double bed, fully appointed kitchen, dining area, lounge area and fireplace for those wintery days or nights. A newly installed outdoor spa is perfect all year round. Netflix and Wi-fi available. During the COVID-19 impact, we are open and trading as normal.  As our vineyard is situated in a remote area of Victoria, there is virtually no person-to-person contact as our retreats are private that only you will have access to in your time here. Our bookings are predominantly Friday's though to Sunday so there's typically a gap of 3-4 days between guests staying. We have increased our cleaning protocols to include multiple sanitations of high 'touch points' and our cleaning includes extra precautions and thorough wipe downs of all surfaces.  We are experiencing minor shortages in supplies, however where possible, we aim to continue providing our complimentary guest Welcome Pack.  All of our linen is cleaned by a professional, commercial laundry service that is based in Kyneton. At this stage, there are no known issues in our small, regional community and  thanks to this wonderful, fresh country air, Lisa and Wayne are both in good health.
Farmer Smith Estate is located near historic Redesdale (which has a hotel and store). The property is rural and is located within 20 - 40 minute drives to: Heathcote, Macedon and Bendigo region vineyards; Mysterious Hanging Rock; Historic Castlemaine; Bendigo Art Galleries and Goldfields; Kyneton's notable restaurants and great shopping; Incredible Turpins Falls in Langley: Lake Eppalock
  • A perfect spot to de-stress and un-wind.

  • Book this accommodation! The location is gorgeous and the view from the spa is unbeatable. The huge, well-equipped kitchen is also a massive plus if you're looking to make the most of your stay by spending a few nights in curled up by the fire :)

    Jacinta2019-11-04T00:00:00Z
  • Our stay at Farmer Smith Estate was nothing short of incredible. The views from the residence were breathtaking, especially at sunrise and sunset. The remoteness of the property was exactly what we needed to relax and recharge our batteries. It was a beautiful retreat; very clean, modern, and private. The treats on arrival were most welcome - especially the estate wine. This will be a yearly (at least) venture spot. I can't recommend this experience highly enough. Lisa and Wayne were great hosts, easy to contact and very helpful.

    James2019-10-31T00:00:00Z

    Sue2020-01-26T00:00:00Z
  • We loved our stay at Gaggle's Place. You can't beat the location, you're right on the main street and a comfortable walking distance to all of the wine tasting venues and other stores. Not to mention that the home is at the back of a cafe, so you don't need to go far for a meal or drink. The hosts are very friendly and accommodating. They openly seek feedback, to make sure that everyone has a comfortable stay. No feedback needed though, as they have already thought of everything. The space itself had really thoughtful touches; tea and coffee, jam, fresh milk, cereal, soap, shampoo etc. It has everything you need (and more) to have a very comfortable stay. The beds are comfortable and the rooms are large, plenty of space for a portacot, it you're bringing one. I highly recommend a stay here. We will certainly be back!

    Heathcote, VIC, Australia

Nestled into the rocky hill overlooking river gums, rolling hills and vineyards, the house feels remote, yet is only 5 minutes from Heathcote town. Spend your mornings watching our grazing free-range kangaroos, and spend afternoons on the deck watching the sunset in the company of gliding hawks. Perfect for couples or families.
Set on 12 acres, you will have plenty of space to wander - from the dam to the fruit orchard or the creek. Or maybe you'd prefer to just relax on the deck and watch the weather go by. The house has 3 bedrooms and can sleep up to 8 people, although maximum of 6 adults. It is perfect for 2 families or couples with kids. For kids there is a bunk room, kids books and toys. Outside, there is trampoline and 12 acres of nature to explore. In the house, the main living space is centred around a wood fire place and large windows that are designed to frame the view perfectly. An open plan kitchen (fully equipped with pantry basics to get you started), and large 6-seater dining table make it perfect for entertaining. A coffee machine and grinder is provided, so if you have favourite coffee, bring along your own coffee beans! Outside there are two decks, and depending on the weather you can decide where you want to spend your time. To the north side there is a fenced in garden, and open area for playing, outdoor table and trampoline. To the south is the sunset deck perfect for afternoon drinks.
The house is surrounded by farmland and vineyards, but is close to the main road that leads into Heathcote town. The house is across the road from a fantastic cellar door, so take the leisurely 5 min walk across for some wine tasting, and pick yourself up a bottle of Shiraz for dinner.
  • Very cool little house on the top of a hill with views of surrounding bushland and vineyards! Kangaroos aplenty! We are two families - 4 adults, 5 young children - and the space was perfect. Great views from the every room, with an awesome outdoor decking to view the stars. Close 5min drive to Heathcote main town and all the main Heathcote Wineries within 30 min drive. Loved it!

  • The Heathcote Wine House was the perfect place for our band and staff we had at our vineyard for the Heathcote on Show weekend. Zoe’s communication was very quick and clear - and made the stay for my friends a very pleasant one. The house itself is beautifully appointed and perfect for a group of friends or mix of adults and children. It’s one of the nicest places to stay in Heathcote if you’re enjoying this fabulous wine region. 🍷

  • The Wine View House is a country delight. Perched high on a hill overlooking a couple of local wineries with great views of the countryside. We all enjoyed sitting out on the deck with a glass of local wine and some good cheese. The views were lovely and we had some great sunsets. And we always had a mob of kangaroos come by to say “hello”

  • We stayed here for 3 nights over a long weekend. We arrived late and had self checkin instructions which were easy to follow. Leslie had been kind enough to turn lights and heating on for our arrival. We arrived to see kangaroos hopping all over the place. The views and house are as described and the photos. It was very beautiful and peaceful. The kitchen was well stocked with utensils and basics such as oil, jam, butter etc. Overall we had a great stay and wouldn’t hesitate to come back.

Situated in the foothills of Mt Alexander, Blue Devil Cottage is the quaint original Victorian farmhouse of Hillside Acres farm. Fully renovated, it is an ideal place for both the energetic and those wishing for a more relaxing holiday. We welcome kids, and can get them & you involved in herding ducks or feeding pigs. For mountain bikers, you can ride through our back paddocks directly onto the new La Larr Ba Gauwa Mountain bike park - or it’s just two km along the road to the trailhead.
Our lovely quaint cottage is entirely yours - two bedrooms, a lounge room, a fully equipped, separate kitchen and a large bathroom. The front veranda overlooks the formal garden and picturesque dam and there is a sheltered back verandah for rainy or hot days. Spend the day exploring the many delights of Central Victoria or just sit on your little veranda, sipping one of the local wines from a dozen nearby wineries, and watch the sun go down as nature whispers around you. For the more energetic, there’s walks galore accessible from the farm, and the mountain bike park is only minutes away.
With views out to the Harcourt hills from the veranda and Mount Alexander just behind, Blue Devil Cottage is an ideal base for walking, either gentle strolls around the farm, or serious bush walks into the trails on the Mount.
  • We had a very relaxing stay at Blue Devil Cottage. The kids loved exploring the farm and we loved the pretty cottage and scenic surroundings. Can recommend the bacon too!

We offer The Bush House to AirBNb guests. House is located within Pilchers Bridge Conservation Native reserve. Wedged between Sedgwick & Myrtle Creek, 10 km to Sutton Grange Winery. The house is a muddy, off the grid on 15 acres. Approx 25 minutes to both Bendigo and Castlemaine. Check out the galleries and festivals. Two bedrooms, bathroom, lovely outside spaces. The mud means it's always a comfortable temperature. The wood fire heats the whole house in winter.
Please note: there is an outside toilet. Enjoy and maybe be a little frightened of the local wildlife. Gorgeous birds, echidnas, a goanna (if you are lucky enough), many many kangaroos and you best watch out for snakes. However, they tend to leave if there are people around. Ponies may be on the property, they are friendly. If you want to bring your horse, that’s fine too but by arrangement. Ride through the bush to Sutton Grange Winery on a Sunday for lunch. There is also lots of forest to explore. Great place to get away from it all and relax! Cycling is big in Sedgwick Please note: fire restrictions apply. Once it gets cooler, stoke up the outside fire pit.
Neighbors can be seen from a distance, it is a small community in the bush, so be respectful . Please don’t drive your cars fast on the private roads. If you want to bring motorcycles and ride through the bush, that’s fine. There is also a cycling community further down the road towards Bendigo. The house is suited to a romantic weekend. Eat breakfast outside. Lay in the hammock and read a book. Or, a few friends just hanging around and use as a stepping stone to Bendigo and Castlemaine.
  • The bush house is absolutely charming and my family had a wonderful time in the beautiful house and peaceful surrounds. Andrea and Ian were lovely hosts, and we felt very welcomed and grateful for their responsiveness and warm hospitality.

  • Andrea and Iain’s bush retreat had everything we needed to relax and enjoy our time away. They are fantastic hosts. It is such a peaceful place. Appreciated how clean and tidy it was and they had all the essentials. Loved the fire pit outside. If you’re looking for a place to get away from it all to relax, this is it.

    Kiersten2019-09-17T00:00:00Z
  • Andrea and Ian’s place was wonderful. Located in a quiet area, was just perfect for our kids to get out and enjoy themselves. The kids really enjoyed the Cubby house, as well as the trampoline and the abundance of space! We enjoyed heading down to the Dam, and collecting wood for our Bonfire. Andrea’s place was spotless, and had all the amenities required. Communication with Andrea was a breeze. Andrea even made a special effort to come down and start the log fire, so as when we arrived the house was warm. We loved the Horses, and they were both so friendly, letting us pat them for as long as we wanted!. I highly recommend Andrea and Ian’s property, and am looking forward to returning. Andrea and Ian, thank you for a wonderful experience! Definitely am looking forward to returning.

We only encountered kangaroos and Shadow the neighbours dog the whole weekend! The house was spotless and has everything you need. The indoor fire was divine, kept us so warm and comfortable. Would highly recommend the Bush House and we will be back!

  • What an interesting place to stay in! The space is super quirky. Lots of space and nice bathroom. They have a very sweet dog, who is super friendly and a possum resident in the roof which is also fun! Their place is on the main street but very quiet and convenient. We went to palling bros brewery for dinner and they had great beer and food, only a short walk. There are sooo many wineries close by. Our favourite was Armstead but they are only open the first weekend of every month. Thanks for the stay!

  • Amazing unique space in a great location close to all shops, restaurants and cafes. Toby and Kate were very responsive hosts, would highly recommend.

    Phoebe2020-01-17T00:00:00Z
  • This is a unique experience to stay somewhere with character and charm. Our 4 yr old particularly enjoyed the novelty of staying in an old church. The location is fantastic right on the main strip of pubs, restaurants and cafes. Toby & Kate are responsive and helpful with local tips on what to do. Proximity to awesome wineries as well is a bonus. It’s with the 40 mins drive to go to Tahbilk, Mitchelton and Fowles wineries and all three of those are great for lunch as well. But there are good wineries closer too such as Sanguine only 7 mins drive. Only one block walk to Palling Bros which was nice enough to have dinner 3 nights in a row. Great spot!

    Jolene2020-01-12T00:00:00Z
  • Fabulous stay for three friends at the church hall! Spacious inside, comfortable beds and all the amenities you would need for a short stay. quick responses and a lot of local information provided which was much appreciated! We decorated this rustic old baker's barn into a cute and funky studio with king bed, wood fire and beautiful ensuite bathroom. We have kept as many original features like the internal tin walls, high ceiling and industrial doors and we have a hidden garden and courtyard, filled with sunshine in summer and sheltered in winter. It is tucked away behind the shop fronts on the main street of Heathcote and central to all the open cellar door venues and cafes, entrance is via Hospital street.
The Bakers barn is behind a shop front and dwelling built around the turn of the century. The Bakers barn is private, but the shared space is a lovely little garden and courtyard that is part of the dwelling.
Heathcote is a gorgeous little town right at the foot of Mount Ida and famous for the big Australian red wines grown on the Cambian soil. In the main street of Heathcote, right on your doorstep, you can do all the wine tasting straight from the cellar door. The Wine Hub has 24 different wines available for tasting, and Monsieur Chapoutier cellar doors offers their French and Australian wines for tasting and sales. There are many cellar doors to choose from! Gaffney's and Segefredo bakeries are hugely popular and our favourite cafe restaurant is small and new, it is called Fodder.

The garden was beautiful and sitting on the verandah in the afternoon light was so relaxing. Elizabeth was lovely and shared her home and it’s history. We had a lovely walk around historic Chewton and a delightful meal at the hotel next door. Highly recommend a stay.

We like to think of it as a rural warehouse! Hidden behind the rough sawn timber exterior of our American style timber barn you will find a light and bright welcoming space. It has everything you could wish for! Comfy place to eat, relax and unwind! Step outside the barn doors and wander around the 6 acre property.
Inside "The Barn" you will find yourself relaxing in no time! You will find a cosy lounge area with comfy couches, wood fireplace, large coffee table perfect for boardgames and a flatscreen TV. Large kitchen area fridge, portable electric oven, 2 burner hot plates, microwave, kettle & toaster, plates, pots, pans and some cooking essentials. Its a full size kitchen but appliances are small portable, so some creative planning may be needed. We also have a large gas BBQ outside complete with hood and side burner. A casual dining table as well as large timber dining table in the more formal dining area. A growing library where you can pull up a chair and get lost in the many books. Upstairs in the mezzanine you will find the main bedroom with super comfortable queen size bed and lounge area. To make yourself comfortable you will find large chest of drawers, clothes rail and sideboard for your bags. The second sleeping area (queen bed) is in the downstairs area which can be sectioned off using curtains for privacy. Attached to the outside of the barn is the bathroom complete with hot shower, basin, mirror & hairdryer. The toilet located in separate outhouse, as we are not on town water and sewer, the toilet is a somewhat palatial composting toilet. Outside you will find cane lounge or up by the dam you will find ceramic stools to sit and relax. NB fire restrictions exist during warmer months so lighting outdoor fires during this period is strictly prohibited.
The property boasts easy access to the town, with its restaurants, shops, galleries, boutiques, cafes, and so much more. The surrounding country also has a number of trails, wineries, and parks to explore.
  • We had a great stay in this barn and would highly recommend it

    Sujin2020-01-16T00:00:00Z
  • All I can say is wow. The Barn is everything you see in these photos but so much better in real life. My partner and I wanted to find somewhere to stay between the Christmas - New Year period, and wanted a place in a quiet, country town away from Sydney city. We stumbled upon The Barn and this place has become one of the best Airbnb’s we’ve stayed at. If you’re after a quiet, relaxing getaway with lots of beautiful sunsets, look no further and book your stay here. The Barn is close to the town of Heathcote - with one of the best bakeries I’ve ever been to and an IGA for all your grocery needs. It’s also a good driving distance to the town of Bendigo and Echucha, as well as Lake Eppalock and The Pink Cliffs (we highly recommend visiting these places while you’re in the area!) Regarding The Barn itself, it has all the amenities you need. They have a new outside toilet which is a lot better than the last (I wasn’t looking forward to the night trip to the other toilet so I’m glad it changed haha!). If you’re visiting in the summer, the large evaporative cooler will be your best friend. We stayed on 30-40 degrees days and it kept the barn nice and cool with no problems! Just a note that during summer you might encounter some friendly spiders, so just be prepared! ;) Thanks Jacob for allowing us and our two dogs to stay at The Barn. Our dogs absolutely loved running around outside and my partner and I absolutely enjoyed our time away. We hope to visit again in the future but this time during wintertime as we’d love to try out that fireplace :)

  • We had such a lovely stay in this beautifully converted barn. The space was styled wonderfully and made to feel very characterful and personal. The location is perfect and our sleeps were wonderful on comfy beds with lovely linen.

  • The Barn Heathcote is the best Airbnb I have stayed at. Lots of thoughtful touches and very responsive host. This location was just gorgeous. The views are stunning, the house was amazing and very well organized, even could enjoy fresh morning and starry night. also Jacob & Brad was an incredible host, communication was open and clear and They checked in with us along the way. They sent manual books to share about the best area to enjoy and gave me insights in to what the local area had to offer. The house itself is set in a serene setting amongst trees and is full of nature. Superb heating mat which kept us warm when I sleep. The bed was very comfy and crispIt provided the perfect holiday getaway with the all the classic amenities one has come to expect.

  • Jacob’s place was tidy, super stylish and on such a beautiful property. The barn doors that open up at the base of the bed were incredible. I recommend checking out the Pink Cliffs nearby, they were also stunning!

  • Wonderful place with great hosts

    Tom2019-11-10T00:00:00Z
  • The Heathcote Barn was everything we we expected. The Barn is utterly charming and it had everything that we needed. The location of the Barn is enough out of Heathcote so you know that you’re in the peace and quiet but you’re close enough that if you need anything, it’s only a 10 minute drive away to the town centre. The decor of the Barn is set out well. The lounge area is very comfortable and the open-fire with Netflix makes the evenings all sorted. The beds are comfortable with lovely linen. Jacob as a host was very helpful and generous with his time when we had questions. Jacob has everything you need to know to have a great stay in The Barn information booklet. I highly recommend a stay at The Barn. We are sorry we couldn’t stay longer.

  • The barn in Heathcote was a wonderful mini break for our family of 4. It’s situated on a beautiful rural property surrounded by kangaroos. The outside toilet isn’t too much of an issue, despite our initial concerns. We enjoyed the outdoor fire pit the most. Lots of wood was provided. It was lovely sitting outside at night surrounded by the stars. The beds were super comfortable and the living area had ample seating with lots of blankets to keep us warm. There were 2 heaters which worked well and kept us cozy. The book and game collection was quite impressive. We enjoyed lots of board games during our stay. We visited Bendigo during our stay which isn’t too far away. The Heathcote Harvest was also delicious. Thanks for a wonderful stay!

  • Daniel and Glenny have put a lot of love into their beautiful Red Brick Barn which makes it a very special place to stay and somewhere I look forward to returning to.

    Mark2020-03-11T00:00:00Z
  • Our stay at Red Brick Barn was absolutely perfect. The barn itself is one of a kind and has been presented beautifully. Our stay was incredibly relaxing with the use of the outdoor bath, comfortable bed and a private unique outdoor area that looks out over farmland and Bush. We can’t recommend this air bnb enough!

    Amelia2020-03-09T00:00:00Z
  • From the moment we pulled in to the driveway of the red brick barn we were enchanted by the beauty of the place, the tranquility of the location and once inside blown away by how thoughtfully and beautifully styled the house was. It was as if we'd been transported to the French country-side or the pages of a vogue-living magazine! We loved the spacious, light-filled upstairs bedroom and bathroom and have never slept so well- what a comfy bed!! Of course we utilised the outdoor bath and shower which are privately nestled between the olive trees and overlooking the property's back paddocks (home to two friendly Donkey's, some sheep and a handful of ducks.) Hands down the most beautiful and relaxing accomodation we've ever stayed in. Thank you Daniel and Glenny for creating such a stunning space and allowing it to feel like our home for a weekend. We will definitely be recommending it to all our friends and family and have already planned our return!

    Dale2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • A stunning secluded and relaxing ‘France meets Australia’ retreat. A sheer delight to shower outdoors under the stars or sip champagne while sitting in the bath outside in the morning (indoor bathrooms too). Daniel & Glenny have thought of everything - from the layout, to the design, to the amenities and thoughtful touches, to the large relaxed spaces. Super quiet space - except for the delightful chorus of frogs each night. Nirvana!

    Peter2020-01-03T00:00:00Z
  • An incredible place! The property has been impeccably put together and run. Every detail has been thought of with nothing amiss. It was such a comfortable stay and ultra relaxing. The framed view from the couches to the manicured gardens, and green acreage, was beautiful to sit and look at all day long. Luxury touches like French linens and bath products made the extra special. The outdoor bath was a delightful touch and definitely something to do whilst you are there. We had plans to venture out into local areas but the house so beautiful we ended up staying in the whole time! By far one of the best AirBnB homes we have experienced over the many years and countries and we’ve been to. A very very special place.

Our lovely stone cottage is set on 6 acres of secluded native Australian bushland. The stone cottage is positioned on top of the hill in the heart of Chewton Bushlands and provides amazing views across to Mount Macedon and Mount Franklin. Enjoy your days and evenings looking out to the view. During summer spend the evenings enjoying the stars eating a BBQ dinner at the outdoor setting and in winter on those cold nights snug up in the front of fire.
Ukamirra is "off the grid" with solar power, tank water and gas hot-water (like most properties in Chewton Bushlands). The cottage is made of local stone and is set on a large platform featuring native Australian plants. There are two bedrooms, both with queen size beds. A comfy lounge and separate kitchen/dining area. We share our property with the local wildlife, so you can expect kangaroos and many native birds on the property. This is a gorgeous, private and quiet place to relax and unwind. During summer the house stays relatively cool given the stone construction and each room is provided a pedestal fan. There is an old oak tree on the platform that provided the perfect spot to take shelter from the sun for breakfast, lunch and dinner. All doors and windows have fly screens.
Castlemaine and Chewton are 10 minutes drive away with lots of coffee shops, restaurants, pubs and boutique stores with plenty to see and do. A great area for bushwalking and a bit of outdoor activities. There is always the Saturday market in Chewton and lots of other local markets on throughout the year in different areas.
  • Amazing views and with local pub 2mins drive away, Castlemaine 10 mins away, this place is a great location for those who are looking for tranquillity and privacy. Grant’s cottage is within close proximity to Castlemaine cafés and shops. The place was super clean and stylish, we had a great time! My 3 year-old enjoyed your kids’ DVD collection ;)

    Ania2020-03-09T00:00:00Z
  • Grant's place is as good (or even better) than in the pictures - lovely house in a great location with fantastic views. It was very comfortable and well equipped, and was enjoyable in itself as well as a very good base for exploring the area. Sitting outside in the evening to have a drink and enjoy the view was a wonderful experience. Grant and James provided very good and detailed information beforehand, which made our stay there very easy. We recommend it highly, and hope to be able to return in the future.

    Alan2020-02-21T00:00:00Z
  • My partner, children and I loved staying at Ukamirra - it's a beautifully maintained and charming stone cottage located in the Chewton bushlands. We particularly loved sitting at the outdoor table under the Oak tree looking out to the beautiful view of surrounding hills. We enjoyed cooking in the well equipped kitchen and Castlemaine is less than 10 minutes away with some great cafes too. The owners were great with communication and flexible when I needed to change the dates of our stay. Highly recommend this charming and comfortable stay!

    Katherine2020-01-15T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely stone cottage with amazing views. Peaceful and quiet and the perfect place to relax. Sitting under the lovely oak tree, reading, watching the scenery, the sun set and the stars was fabulous.

    Maree2019-12-27T00:00:00Z
  • 'Ukamirra' is an off-grid stone cottage overlooking sweeping views, and with many thoughtful touches to make it a special place to stay. We particularly liked the outside table under the spreading oak, where we could sip Prosecco and admire a vista stretching as far as the Pyrenees. Highly recommended!

    Brian2019-12-23T00:00:00Z
  • Our 2nd visit, and just as magic. Sitting outside with a glass of Boomtown and a platter of Oakwood Smallgoods, watching the sun come down is something else. The garden is in great shape, and the view is brilliant. Super secluded, and quiet. Once again, we didn’t even notice we are off-the-grid. Looking forward to our 3rd visit.

    Tim2019-12-15T00:00:00Z
  • We loved Grant and Jame's house! We felt relaxed from the moment we got there. The house is charming, and the view is fantastic! We enjoyed a glass of wine and some cheese by the fire. We are planning to stay again and cannot wait to come back.

  • We had a wonderful stay at this beautiful and cosy cottage over a cold long weekend (already missing the fire place)! The view was second to none and the house is exactly as listed. Fabulous and quick communication from Grant also. Would definitely recommend and stay again.
