  • Excellent location, next to the bus stop that goes to Hierve el Agua and to Oaxaca. Easy to find. Very good deal with Uri and his family. Although we only spent one night, we were able to share good words. They also gave us good recommendations for eating in Mitla. If you are going to visit the archaeological site of Mitla, go up to Hierve el Agua and get to know some mezcal palenque, it is an ideal place.

  • The place is very well located, close to the center and if you like to walk a little, you also reach the archaeological site of Mitla. The spacious, comfortable, clean and well-lit room, there is no noise at night, the host Uri is excellent. There are some friendly and beautiful dogs

  • Hostess Julie radiates peace and beauty :)

  • We had the best time in Mitla, and it began at Brooke's place. The sounds of looms can be heard from the door, which we absolutely loved. Julie (Brooke's mom) made us feel right at home and we gave us so many tips. The location is great and the views of the city at night are amazing. We wish we could have stayed longer!

    Hannah2020-02-21T00:00:00Z
  • Very friendly, clean and beautiful place with fantastic view of the city. Host spoke perfect English and offered great suggestions for things to do in town

    Eric2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • I had a great time staying at Casa Buenas Vibras for 3 nights. Brooke and her mom, Julie were great. I loved hanging out with Julie on one of the terraces in the evenings. The house was beautiful, there is a hot tub, hammock, bar, and two terraces. Also, the bed was really comfortable. It’s a great place to be to visit Hierve el Agua, nearby caves or the Mitla ruins which are 2 blocks away. Brooke and Julie really make you feel at home, I recommend staying here if you plan to visit Mitla!

    Hannah2020-02-06T00:00:00Z
  • Very quiet place 'recommended! In the mornings they offer you a small breakfast (fruit, tea, coffee, corn flakes.) In a bar, they also offer you the purchase of a wine at a good price

    Victor2020-02-02T00:00:00Z
  • Spacious home. Great spot if you’re visiting Hierve de agua. Brooke has lived here for 6 months and has a lot of tips that makes traveling in Mitla and Oaxaca City smoother and cheaper. Comfortable bed, big bathroom, and HOT WATER!

    Kelly2020-01-29T00:00:00Z
  • This was a magical stay for us in this pueblo mágico. We felt so at home at the property and were greeted with such kindness by the hosts. The room was spotless and the porch had an amazing view of the valley. Breakfast was simple, but sufficient and the coffee was on point. I would give this place a golden stamp of approval and would definitely recommend staying here to any traveler looking for a relaxing spot to feel at home while they explore this awesome town.

    Dakota2020-01-27T00:00:00Z

  • This Air B&B was amazing – chill, clean, comfortable – it has it ALL! Brooke (aka Lena) and her Mom Julie are the best most friendly hosts – and they even empower the local women through their employment practices. They also support the local culture and businesses throughout their décor. I even got to the see the loom factory across the street where the rainbow quilts were custom-made. I was interested in participating in local activities (zoo, fresh food market, petrified waterfall with mineral swimming pools) and the hosts were super knowledgeable about it all, even providing help with transportation from the local motos (tuk tuks) to taxies to their own private driver to the Oaxaca airport. The artisan market and Zapotec architecture historical site are on the same street, just steps away. After a day exploring in the sun and a siesta, the warm hot tub was fantastic – the towels were so plush! This place totally exceeded my expectations – incredibly affordable, as well.

  • Great place to stay out in the countryside of Mitla. Close to the ruins and a short drive to Hierve el Agua. Brooke and her mum made sure we had everything we needed before they left to go away for the week. Really nice place, full kitchen, lounge with tv (and Netflix), hot tub is great in the evenings to chill. Breakfast of oatmeal, granola bars and coffee provided. Bed super comfy and lovely balcony overlooking the town and surrounding hills. Very well looked after and would definitely stay again

  • Uri's house has a perfect location, is comfortable and very accessible. There was always perfect communication and they were aware of everything. They have very friendly puppies in the accommodation and also parking inside the property.

  • Stayed here for one night. You need to understand that this is an ordinary private house for locals, respectively, all completely local-local. The room is large, clean, but not very bright due to its location on the ground floor under the stairs. At night it was 2 degrees, but it was warm in the room. The location is great! A 3-minute walk to the center, 5 minutes to the archaeological zone, but you can even walk for about 25 minutes. We liked it, would stay again. But if you are looking for conditions a little decent, it is better to find something more expensive. Everything is very simple here. Muchas gracias!

  • The view from the dining room window is the best of the place, close to the arq area and the tuc tuc charges you only 10 pesos from the entrance of the town to take you, excellent and super ante the hosts, recommended.

  • Great place / very good place! Ediel and his sister were excellent hosts and very communicative, from before the trip until the last minute. It's one block, about ~ 2 minutes walking from the center and they made me very much at home the first day. They were always available to help me with everything I needed. Even when I got sick one day, they went to buy me things at the pharmacy when I couldn't leave. I am very grateful for them and I hope to stay here the next time I come. I highly recommend this place. =================================================== ================ Ediel and his sister were excellent and thoughtful hosts, extremely communicative and helpful from the moment I booked the place until the last hour I hung out there. It's located one block from the city center, an easy ~ 2 minute walk out from most of the main attractions (and mototaxis, for getting to the ruins and such). The hosts were always available to help me out with whatever I needed and made me feel quite at home. Even when I was feeling ill my penultimate day there, they went and got me meds at the pharmacy when I couldn't get out. I'm super grateful I chose to stay here and hope to stay here again next time I'm in town. Highly recommend this place!

    Julio2019-11-03T00:00:00Z
  • The hotel is a family-run business and everyone was so nice. Paula always answered all of our questions promptly. Her father picked us up in the airport late at night, and after we dropped off our luggage, he was kind enough to drive us to a great restaurant in Mitla that was open at midnight. Prior to that, he gave us chocolate that was hand-made by Paula's grandmother. It was such a wonderful persona touch! Aside from the hospitality of the owners, the hotel is just a few steps from the ruins of Mitla, which was great. Overall, we had a wonderful experience that exceeded all expectations.

Coronavirus Update: The well-being of our guests is our greatest responsibility. To ensure that all who stay may continue to cultivate health, peace, and joy while here, we are closing two of our four rooms for at least a month, effective 3/18. Candelabra will remain open. The closures will create even more space for guests to practice social distancing, and allow our home to remain a sanctuary for those who need one. Please reach out with any questions! Our very best wishes--Sylvia & Paul.
Casa Lyobaa is a one-of-a-kind sanctuary for travelers—a base for exploration and a destination in itself. A short walk from the Mitla ruins, the three-acre property features organic gardens with hundreds of species of plants, a solar-heated pool, palapa, and standalone guest kitchen and living space. The four guestrooms have been appointed with great care, from the handwoven blankets and rugs from our favorite weavers, to local pottery and art. Solar panels provide nearly all electricity. Lyobaa (lee-oh-baa) is the Zapotec name for Mitla (Mictlán in Nahuatl). It means place of rest. Our home has been a labor of love for more than 30 years—a love that’s readily apparent once you enter the property and experience the sense of peace that pervades it. We’re located about 500 meters from the ruins along a road that turns from paved to unpaved about halfway down, and that continues to prehistoric cave paintings about 10 minutes beyond the house (we can arrange an excellent tour). Our three acres are bound by a small seasonal river, a smaller seasonal stream, and countryside. The gardens include hundreds of native and non-native species—from rare cacti, agaves, and yuccas, to pomegranate, macadamia nut, and orange trees. Bird life is often abundant, including scarlet tanagers, orioles, hummingbirds, and gray-breasted woodpeckers. Trails for hiking run from just outside our gate, and we have a number of other hiking recommendations for the area (many on trails that we have mapped). The guesthouse has four spacious rooms, each with private entrances and bathrooms with hot showers. Each room has two double beds (the beds are firm). Two of the rooms (Guaje and Candelabra) have a daybed. The other two (Jacaranda and Agave) have a desk instead. WIFI is available in the kitchen/living space and pool/palapa, but we’ve decided for now to maintain the guestrooms WIFI-free (although there is surprisingly good cell service throughout the property). A separate standalone guest building in front of the pool houses the kitchen and living/dining areas. It is fully stocked and furnished, with surprises throughout (like a vintage record collection and player). The large pool is solar heated; the water circulates from the pool to the heating system atop the guesthouse and back down. The adjacent palapa is an idyllic space to relax, with seating and hammocks surrounded by bamboo, coffee plants, palms, and ferns. We practice progressive environmental and labor practices. Solar panels supply nearly all electricity used by guests. We compost and recycle, and the bathrooms feature water-saving toilets and showers. Note that there are also two large, friendly dogs on the grounds.
The home is set on the outskirts of town. You feel like you're in the countryside, even though you're only a short walk from the ruins, and about a 25-minute walk from the main plaza. During the rainy season, a river and creek run along two sides of the property. The neighborhood, like Mitla itself, is very safe. Upon booking, we provide guests with an interactive map of town, showing everything from where to buy groceries to our favorite restaurants and where to catch the shared truck to Hierve el Agua.
  • We had an amazing time at this beautiful place full of art, nature, culture and thoughtful things - from chocolates, to local pottery to record player and books. We had a great run on the trails straight from the house and enjoyed our dive in the pool after. It was perfect in every way. We will be back for sure. Thank you!!

    Lisa2020-02-27T00:00:00Z
  • This place is absolutely wonderful, definitely one of our favourite in Oaxaca! Sylvia and Paul are great hosts. The room was clean and very comfortable and the setting is just spectacular. It is easy to walk to Mitla or get to all the attractions around by cab or colectivo. You can just stay by the pool and enjoy the peacefulness of the place.

    Eric2020-02-25T00:00:00Z
  • Casa Lyobaa is a very nice place to rest for a few days. The view of the mountains is wonderful. The care of the details in the rooms and the garden make one feel in a very special place. Paul and Silvia love Mexico and show it with their guest house.

    Nicolas2020-02-22T00:00:00Z
  • We feel truly lucky to have stayed at Casa Lyobaa. It's a beautiful retreat that is easily worth the walk from downtown Mitla, with a great pool, beautifully decorated rooms, and thoughtful touches (chocolate made by the woman who helps clean the rooms to make hot chocolate, a self serve honor bar in the kitchen, interesting books in the common area). From start to finish, Sylvia and Paul were incredibly communicative, anticipating our questions and ready with recommendations. Sylvia and her daughter took us on a tour that included their new cactus garden and their chickens, and we really enjoyed getting to meet them. Paul gave us very clear guidance for hiking in the nearby hills, which was worth getting up early for. Just wish we could have stayed longer--would love to come back sometime!

  • Lovely property and friendly owners. All the rooms are beautiful (you can’t go wrong whichever one you choose!) and the views around the grounds are gorgeous. Apart from the spacious rooms, there is also a pool, a wonderful and atmospheric shared living room, and a fully equipped kitchen. I spent only one night but could easily have spent a week. Don’t hesitate, book this Airbnb today.

  • Our stay at Sylvia and Paul’s place was short but absolutely lovely- we would highly recommend staying there at hope to return soon! The rooms and facilities are really special and the pool and cactus garden offer a peaceful oasis for travelers. We had some unexpected travel disruptions and our hosts were incredibly helpful and understanding. Definitely a recommended stay if you’re looking for a special place in Oaxaca!

  • We stayed here for 3 nights with some very good friends & our daughters, both 3 1/2 years old, and had a splendid time. Don’t expect too much from the water pressure in the showers, everything else was perfect. Definitely recommend!

  • It is the second time I visited the place and I left super happy! It always makes me feel like I have my little house in Oaxaca !! They have also improved many things and the new surprise of the temazcal left me even more tempted to return !! Thank you as always Sylvia :))

  • WOW! We loved this place! Very stylish, beautiful, quiet, a beautiful pool, great bar and restaurant. We only had one night, but really hope to get back there to spend more time. We could have sat on the patio by the pool for days enjoying the amazing views of the surrounding mountains. It would be a great base camp for many days of exploration of the surrounding area: Mitla, Yagul, Hierve el Agua, mezcal palenques, the weavers in nearby towns. If all that weren't enough, the shower was the absolute best I've ever experienced! We'd go back just for that!!

  • A beautiful house next to the archeological site and at the top of the hill. Walk a little to downtown, but that's a pleasant walk. Next to the weaving factory, you can hear the weaving sound from morning. The house is well-cleaned and very beautiful. I stayed in the room on the first floor, but there are three guest rooms on the second floor. It was a very calm and lovely house. The city of Oaxaca is also good, but we recommend you to stay relaxed in Mitra. I was so cozy that I spent five nights!

  • Simple accommodation in a great location in the old town behind the church. Lovely people, warm welcome, a very positive experience!

Coronavirus Update: The well-being of our guests is our greatest responsibility. To ensure that all who stay may continue to cultivate health, peace, and joy while here, we are closing two of our four rooms for at least a month, effective 3/18. Jacaranda will stay open. The closures will create even more space for guests to practice social distancing, and allow our home to remain a sanctuary for those who need one. Please contact us with any questions! Our very best wishes--Sylvia & Paul
  • Lovely, tranquil space to be.

  • Sylvia and Paul have created a beautiful refuge for travelers. The comfortable beds and bedding as well as the little touches such as a record player in the kitchen make your stay a memorable one. They were very helpful and communicative......we look forward to our next visit!

  • Paul and Sylvie's space was very comfortable and tasteful. We loved the pool, artwork and well appointed kitchen.

    Amy2020-02-21T00:00:00Z
  • This place is immaculate with great views, cactus garden and beautifully curated pieces. Absolute magic. Had a lovely stay. It’s a just outside of town which is what we were looking for. Really enjoyed swimming in the pool and Sylvia kindly helped us to order food in the evening as we were very exhausted. Coffee was made for us in the morning. Hosts were very quick to respond and accommodating. Would love to stay here again. Would be ideal to stay more than one night to really enjoy the area and relax.

  • Casa Regina was beautiful and the rooms were super cool! The only downfall was the hot tub didn’t get hot..we still sat in it

    Sam2020-03-02T00:00:00Z
  • Our stay at Casa Regina was beyond perfect! A short drive from Oaxaca, and allowed us to visit Mitla and Hierve al Agua with a place to rest our head. My husband and i came for 1 night in January, and stayed in the King suite with the jacuzzi. We wish we had stayed longer! The design and aesthetic of the room, the grounds, the bar, and the whole property were really impressive and set a great tone for the stay. Our room was large, comfortable, and had thoughtful touches all around (speaker, extra blanket, mini-fridge with items for purchase, robes, outlets on each side of the bed, etc). We "splurged" on the suite with the jacuzzi and were really glad we did - it was perfect! We commented on how they have thought of everything! The only things we wish we had in the room were luggage stands for our suitcases (kept them on the floor) and a ceiling fan. The staff and hospitality made the stay even more enjoyable. A restaurant/bar with great food and cocktails, spa options available, local tips from Cesar, and great service all around. We would love to come back! And next time with more friends!

  • The place is very beautiful. Quiet, 2 minutes by car from the center of the magical town. The amenities are excellent, the food is not said, delicious. And the staff very friendly. If one day I return, I would return without hesitation to stay at Casa Regina.

  • We really enjoyed ourselves at this wonderful place, and had great conversations with the hosts. A memorable stay, and hopefully we can come back. Highly recommended.

  • This is a wonderful place to stay! The location is on the edge of the small town of Mitla and you can actually walk out the door to go visit archeological ruins or hike the mountains! We enjoyed local corn tortillas, chocolate, agave, veggie markets and bakeries. There are 4 rooms, each is lovely with it's own bathroom, and a separate building with full kitchen and dining space. We felt safe in the fenced property and throughout the town and the hosts Sylvia and Paul provided everything we needed. Beautiful remote location and large pool!

  • This is such a lovely place to stay. Peaceful and relaxing and a great base to explore the pretty town of Mitla and the petrified waterfalls nearby. The pool is lovely too.

  • The best Airbnb that I have ever stayed at. Amazing location, beautifully renovated and decorated, great facilities, wonderful pool and a very interesting garden. Thoughtful details such a freshly picked oranges from the garden, freshly brewed coffee every morning and a record player with old records. If is wasn’t many thousands of kilometers from home, I would have already booked a return visit. Amazing hosts. Very, very highly recommended.

  • This was definitely one of my best Airbnb experiences ever. The hosts/owners have done an impeccable job decorating the space and are some of the kindest, warmest, down to earth people I've met. Everything has been thought through and my whole experience from beginning to end was beyond pleasant. The hosts provide detailed information for your arrival and stay and are very quick to respond to any questions you might have. They even found my scarf that had blown away after I left it unattended at the pool and brought it to Oaxaca! lThe location of this property is what really makes it special. Set on beautiful grounds just outside of town, the views are phenomenal! I didn't want to leave...but I will definitely return. A special place and a wonderful family :)

  • We were extremely pleased with our stay. It was great to experience the authenticity of Mitla. It was close enough to walk to town and just removed enough to feel we were at our own little retreat space. The rooms were spacious, clean, and clear. The grounds are well kept and inviting to hang out in. The hosts were helpful, communicative, and conscientious. A great place to stay for a few nights at the least to unwind and enjoy the magic of the village life.
